This episode validated me so much. I left a comment on one of the shorts on YouTube, and I fucking clocked it. I was right. K and Evan worked together on helping people after Magic Broke, and after Evan left K felt like they had to do everything on their own. I'm just gonna attach my original comment below (everything bolded is to emphasise what I feel very validated on due to the new episode):
YES. Exactly! K and Evan are, fundamentally, very similar in their complexes around others vs the self, aka how they view themselves and how their value is tied to their usefulness. I don't know why they broke up, but my money's on the fact that both Evan and K were drowning in guilt for their actions relating to the breaking of magic, and that put a strain on their relationship. Especially as both K and Evan started to become self-destructive (or, even more in Evan's case) in their attempt to "fix" their mistake. I have an inkling that their breakup was more due to them drifting apart because of their Atlas Complexes (taking the world/their family on their shoulders) rather than an explicit Wrong having happened.
But yeah, Evan is fully in the right about his bodily autonomy and K having ignored that. However, what this clip doesn't include is K's actual reasoning and mindset around this. They wanted to "fix" Evan the same way they've been "fixing" magic as Itsy, and they thought they could do it all on their own; do a massive task that should have been done by a community all by themselves. K attempting to heal Evan and then proceeding to royally screw it up was just the natural progression of K's spiral; they were going to create an explosion at some point if they continued to act as they were. It was just, unfortunately, Evan's arm that got blown up, and not their van.
I am just. I called it. In a YouTube short's comment. I called that the reason for K's erratic behaviour was due to their guilt and sense of responsibility, and K nearly spelled it out when talking to Jammer. And with this confirmation, I feel even more bolstered in saying that I genuinely think that K didn't think through their actions when attempting to heal Evan; they saw that Evan had been hurt and scarred after their breakup, and most likely felt guilt over that. They weren't there for him, which led to him being hurt and having an injury heal wrong. K's a healer at heart, someone who tries to help and fix things, and here's living proof that they weren't enough. That they weren't there for Evan because of their own complexes. They just...hadn't considered what it means to heal an already healed bone, especially when magic is less "whimsical" and a lot more realistic right now.
I could go on and on about K and how their character is amazing, but I'll leave this here for now and bask in the feeling of having my analysis hit true. It's really helping my confidence which I need, oh no I have so much to write for my thesis

On my 456283936 rewatch, I find that Cressida pointing how the marriage mart has a way of pitting women against each other was the most relatable thing ever
THE MARRIAGE MART WAS A BUSINESS TO ENSURE THE CROWN’S POWER STAYS WITH THEM AND NEVER REALLY WORKED FOR THE HAPPINESS OF THEIR CONSUMERS AND THAT IS WHY WHISTLEDOWN IS A GREAT MIRROR TO THE WHIMS OF THIS TIRED CHARADE AND WHY SHE ALWAYS IRKED THE QUEEN

ahh, I love the composition on this page so much. Since you read right to left you see Jinshi first and follow his gaze down to Maomao, and that helps sell you on her movement as she moves left off the page. Then the fact that this is an entire page makes you really stop and pause and take in this one moment. There's also the detail that this is the first time you see Jinshi's face in this manga.
after this moment we also have a few pages of following him between checking on the fight between Gyokuyou and Lihua and then later talking to Gyokuyou about Lingli, it really gives it a "passing the torch" vibe.

i really hate reading them 99% of the time because they're so hard to do well. and because everyone else usually focuses on the things i find least interesting about it.
but it's sooooo fun to imagine what your favorite characters would do as feudal lords. it's a fascinating question: what would this character do with unlimited executive and probably military power over an area of land and its people? people who depended on them? would they be a good ruler? a bad one? would they take it seriously? do their inherent qualities make them better suited to that role than the modern era? or are they truly a product of the time and place they come from?
because I'm me, this thought exercise is a chance to daydream about "what if I held a gun to this character's head and forced them to get involved in politics?", really.
on one end of the scale you have anakin skywalker, who would....not....have done well as emperor, or frankly as any kind of feudal lord. maybe don't give him more power over life and death, or taxes, or food supplies. maybe don't.
on the other end of the scale, you have jed bartlet, who i truly believe would have been more comfortable with unilateral authority and a divine mandate. somebody make that man a king. let his staff profess their undying devotion to him on their knees, the way they so desperately, secretly wish they could in canon. i feel like it would Fix Them. Leo McGarry wants soooooo badly to swear his sword to Jed. you know it in your heart to be true.

ever since someone mentioned how iconic honey lemon from bh6 i haven't?? been able?? to get it out of my head??
for people who don't know, there's a series for bh6 (titled big hero six the series woop woop!!) and one of the episodes was centric around honey lemon also being a girl in!! the arts!! she attends the san fransokyo art institute (sfai) and had her art w the gang hung up in the visual arts gallery
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the san fransokyo institute of technology and the san fransokyo art institute ARE rival schools, but honey lemon just still. loves exploring both fields and her friends are crazy supportive of her (in the end the rival thing is also just for funsies and it's honestly such a fun episode) i just think it is SO COOL that FOR ONE !! she's a woman in stem who wears feminine clothing + heels despite already being tall + HAS INCREDIBLE FASHION SENSE + is a genuinely good person and is TWO !! also heavily involved in the arts LIKE BRO IDK ABOUT YOU but i think it's a really good message for kids (but honestly everyone) to know that they don't have to pick one specific route to follow + can pursue what they love

i’ve seen + heard people say that they thought norman bates was creepy from the beginning of the movie but that’s not my interpretation at all, i think now that that everyone knows the plot of psycho as pop culture trivia, it’s impossible to watch psycho the way it was meant to be seen (hitchcock basically changed how movies were shown in theaters so that audiences would see the whole movie from beginning to end and wouldn’t see the plot twist first, for the sake of suspense! now there’s not the same kind of suspense because every single person in the audience knows who the killer is). i think there’s clear foreshadowing and the whole vibe of the motel is creepy, but norman himself, while a bit awkward, i think comes across as endearing and kind but extremely lonely. obviously as certain things are revealed, he gets creepier, but imo the truly bad thing that he does consciously is cover up his “mother’s” crimes but ofc he has to try to protect her. none of what happens in the movie is premeditated or malicious or even intentional on his part. he’s not even a good liar. idk i really think you’re supposed to see his narrative alignment with marion and feel sympathy for how completely trapped he is in his life, while also being scared of him, at first as someone potentially predatory, then as an accomplice to murder, then as a murderer himself. but not until AFTER his conversation with marion!!
#i think this is also why i have trouble with the bates motel version of his character#i think he’s written to be a little bit too weird and rigid#like he hardly has any personality unless he’s feeling an extreme emotion#i think it’s getting better as the show progresses to be fair#but there’s a lot in this show that i’m like. how does this connect to psycho lmao#but what i do really appreciate in the tv series is how strong his white knight complex is#and how totally misguided it is lol#and i think they do a great job of writing a version of norma bates who norman wouldn’t be able to lose#and show what made her so wonderful and why their relationship was so close#while also highlighting the flaws and tensions in that relationship#and why she would become so erratic and domineering and violent in norman’s mind when he dissociates#because it’s hard to reconcile the version of her that he thinks of as crazy and unstable with the version that is his favorite person#they’re just constantly accusing each other of being crazy and then being ashamed of themselves for saying that and taking it back#anyway uhhh. i love my boy. i love MY interpretation of my boy#i think there’s so much going on beyond ‘he dresses like his dead mom and kills people’#and i think people make it hard to talk about the main themes of the movie because they have a preconceived notion of what the movie is#not that that’s not a big part of the movie but like. it colors people’s interpretation of the character before they even watch the movie#psycho

For anyone who wanted to watch the Tales of Symphonia Festival 20th Anniversary stream from a few weeks ago, but couldn't get the ticket, I decided to record the entire thing and put it up on g drive. It's been split into different sections and is unsubbed. So, here you go! (This may or may not stay up forever, depending).
Starts off with two character skits, then a concert, the main scenario, some free talk with the VAs, more concerts plus a fan showcase, and a final skit that one day I'm going to translate because it was so adorable and sweet.
Some highlights of the main scenario in particular include: sassy Genis and Raine banter, Presea being precious, Regal teasing a flustered Sheena, Lloyd getting a mini heart attack from Colette, Noishe's dog whines in real time (you won't guess who voices him), a trip down memory lane reliving all of the party members' traumas, cute Flanoir and Altamira deluxe suite reenactments, the audience choosing whether Zelos lives or dies, Colette's VA doing a fistpump of victory for her special scene, Sheena and Zelos sharing one brain cell, extra Mithos dialogue, and actual closure?? between Lloyd and Kratos, all written by Symphonia's scenario writer.
Anyone can feel free to translate, or wait until the DVD is up for preorder. But I had a lot of fun watching this, and think other people will too.

MiqoMarch Day 08 - Fav. (Side) Job
When she's not running around as Ninja or Summoner , Arsay's next choice is the lance. Being bestowed a source of draconic power by Midgardsormr moments before his slumber, and knowing how to channel the powers of Bahamut with dreadwyrm trance, Arsay's power as a Dragoon rivals that of even the former Azure Dragoon. With that said, she'd much rather use her polearm to hunt monsters.
#miqomarch#miqomarch2024#ffxiv#miqo'te#arsay kain pose pog??#an attempt was made#I didn't want to repeat myself two years in a row lol#do love playing drg though its so fun#praying it doesnt become too different in dawntrail#in my canon Arsay never does the lancer or dragoon lv 30-60 job quests#She gets Estinien to teach her some basic moves while on the road trip to drivania#one cause she thought it looked fun two because its hard to back stab a dragon without going full shadow of the colossus on them#Shes pretty good with the lance too so she does use it on that first nidhogg fight#then she continues hvw as ninja/smn#she doesnt have any of the dragoon part of the dragoon kit until she goes through the great gooble library with y'mhitra#where they learn about dreadwyrm trance and arsay discovers her surprisingly strong connection to bahamut#y'hmitra: wow thats weird didnt you say you werent around during the calamity how did you connect to him so easily#arsay: so there's this massive hole in the ground in eastern la noscea-#When its time to end the dragonsong war for real this time in the patches she picks up the lance again and enters trance mode#She does get a job stone finally after that#its a gift from aymeric#a symbolic 'you were part of the troops' type thing#oh and later during stormblood arsay does go through Those job quests#because of course shes helping a little dragon friend#and during the omega raid series when Middy saves her life just before he goes to sleep again he gifts arsay a scale to carry with her#a bit of dragon aether to tap into when she needs it !#anyways thats arsay dragoon lore thanks for coming to my tedtalk#WOL posting#Arsay Nun

Aerith's purpose wasn't to die. That wasn't the tragedy, it wasn't something unavoidable, it wasn't what she had to do, and it was never a sacrifice. The tragedy was that she could have lived, and yet she died; that she had finally accepted her heritage as a Cetra (not her purpose), a part of herself that had up to that point only brought her pain and loneliness, and did what only a Cetra could have done. And then she died. Did that change the story in any way? No. Not a single thing.
Ffvii is a very hopeless world, but you still have hope. She died a purposeless death, and you move on regardless. Or maybe because of it. Because she died trying to save the world, and you won't let her down.
