How did Lexa react when she found out about Clarke's dick
Okay okay so about this I have thoughts!
Because of the way June has such a view about men being inherently violent and given her trauma, Lexa was taught that their violent ways, especially their sexual violent ways, came from their dick.
Now, being a lesbian like her grandmother Lexa, both never thought she'd sleep with someone with a dick unless there was violence involved. She was sheltered and fed narratives from a deeply traumatized woman, and as much as she sometimes down right hates her grandmother, she knew there was some truth to her view from the life experiences of the women around her and her own father.
So I think Lexa is at first shocked, like a bucket of cold water was thrown on her. Almost like a fear of what being with a woman who she loves has a dick could mean for her - as if Clarke was to end up hurting her for the simple fact of her having a dick.
It's clear from her reaction to Clarke that Lexa might not want to do this with her anymore, and while the reason /why/ is clear, Clarke does try not to act like it affects her.
Their first time would be desperate and slow as well. When Clarke starts getting dressed and telling Lexa it's fine if she is having second thoughts, Lexa feels panicked at the thought of ruining things with Clarke. Not sex, but the idea that now that her and this amazing woman are finally developing their relationship, she is about to ruin it for a trauma that isn't even hers to carry.
Lexa pulls Clarke back to bed and kisses her, apologizing to her about her reaction. Maybe Clarke would have had a different attitude towards Lexa after her reaction if Lexa didn't look so damn honest and vulnerable and so in love with her. Because when Lexa apologizes she never once looks down, instead staring right into Clarke's eyes.
It is different from what Lexa was accustomed with Costia, but Clarke is gentle with her, reminsing her she does not have to do anything she doesn't want to, but Lexa has this burning need to be as close as possible to Clarke. And that kind of surpasses all the things she was told over and over again by her grandmother because even with their relationship just starting Lexa is most sure of something and that is that she loves this woman more than she ever did anyone and that she feels a safety with her she last feel in her mother's arms.

don't you want to be a cult leader? - danyal al ghul au
this is mostly a joke post but i thought it was funny and had to share so--
his first mistake was, obviously, inheriting his father's inability to see an injustice and stand still. -- actually, danyal's first mistake was his lair being so big. a mountainous island with a large temple in the center resembling his old home in Nanda Parbat? With sprawling foliage and rivers and streams and waterfalls galore? What was he going to do with all that space? Let it go to waste? He had plants there! Native trees of the ghost zone growing from the soil! He couldn't let it all be left unchecked!
So naturally after helping a fellow teenage assassin ghost -- who he later learns is named Akihiko, -- from Walker of all people, he sent them over to hang low at his lair until it was safe enough for them to wander around the Zone. Walker couldn't get through Danyal's astrofield if his life depended on it, and trust him -- he's tried. Danny was clearing out debris from his stupid transport vans for weeks.
Honestly it wasn't so bad, he and Aki really quickly became fast friends and Danny loves having a sparring partner close to his level again -- he hasn't had this much fun fighting since he left the League. Aki was very dedicated and levelheaded, the both of them clicked really well because of it.
Nonono, the real trouble began after Danyal met some long-passed League members and allowed them to come join his island as well. Apparently they had made a few enemies of the zone, and maybe Danyal still felt some loyalty to the League. He couldn't just let them be left to rot. Their zealotry could be overlooked so long as they kept it contained and helped him take care of his island.
And it.. snowballs from there? He meets a teen squire aptly calling himself Ambroise -- whether that was his living name or not is yet to be seen -- who died during feudal france, who is just about as dramatic and passionate as every french stereotype makes them out to be. He calls Danyal "my moon and great muse" -- which is both flattering and little uncomfortable, but Danyal's grown up in the League as the Grandson of the Demon Head, he is used to mild worship. he passes it off as nothing more, nothing less. -- and while his energy is overwhelming on the worst of days, he helps Danny draw out of his shell more in ways that Sam and Tucker still struggle with.
Him and Aki butt heads a lot, but the two seem to hold the other in at least some positive regard, so Danny doesn't worry too much about them fighting while he's gone. It only becomes a mild issue when Aki also begins calling Danny "my moon". It's a little sweet, so Danyal brushes it off.
Then he takes in a troupe of ghosts some time after he defeats Pariah Dark and they begin calling him "great one" just as the yetis do in the far frozen. This is where he meets the twins -- a pair of sibling ghosts who call themselves Trixie and Missy (short for Trick and Mislead) -- who aren't quite as passionate as Ambroise but more energetic than Aki. Eventually they also start calling Danyal "my moon" and attach themselves to his hip, even within the living. They like to hide in his shadow and cause trouble for the rest of the students. He makes sure they don't hurt anyone.
He's pretty sure Aki is jealous, same with Ambroise, but he can't be too certain other than the fact that they become much more lingering (re: clingy) whenever he visits the island.. Something he's trying to do much more often these days due to the increasing amount of people living there now. Since when did he become so popular?
Then there's Pēnelópeia from the Greater Athens, who ran away from home and joined his Island after he ran into her while she was being chased by Skulker -- and he's pretty sure the reason was because of her chimeric appearance. Her strange eyes and mismatched wings and lion's tail and talons. She assimilates into his friend group very easily, she gets along well with Ambroise and Trixie and Danny usually finds the three of them climbing the trees to pluck the most fruit from the top. They can fly and he knows it, but they prefer to climb.
Then finally there's silent poet Akkara who comes from ancient mesopotamia, who gets along most with Aki -- which is no surprise there considering their similar personality dispositions. he watches Aki and Danyal fight each other and leaves comments on this or that that he notices. He writes Danyal poems on clay tablets and leaves them by his room.
They're one big mismatched group of outcasts, and Danny's got the other ghosts on his island to tend to, because they're living on his island and he wants to be hospitable even if he struggles with that. But he spends the most of his time with them.
Sam and Tucker are making fun of him. Tucker jokingly tells him 'careful Danny, at this rate you're gonna start a cult'. Danny really wishes he had taken that joke more seriously.
He just. keeps. collecting people. Wayward souls lost in the zone, looking for shelter or refuge from something or other -- whether that be another hostile ghost, or a past afterlife, or just a purpose. Danyal finds them, he takes them in, offers them a place on his island until they are ready to leave. Many seldom do. He's not complaining -- he has the space, and it feels like it's only ever growing.
His close friends, his "inner circle" as he's heard the others call them, keep insistently calling him "my moon". He starts calling them his stars, because then it only feels fair. They're his stars, this is his constellation. It becomes a thing; little star halos begin forming behind their heads, picking them out from the rest. He loves them so much, it's hard to place. Sam and Tucker are also his stars, but they reside in the living realm, they're his tie to Life. Meanwhile, his friends here know what it's like to be dead, and sometimes its nice to relate.
Those living on his island keep calling him "Great One" and he's beginning to notice zealotry in their care for his island. He really, deeply appreciates it. His close friends gain nicknames -- as his stars, it's only natural for him to pick them out from the cluster in the skies. Akihiko, his Sirius and bright star. Trix and Missy, Castor and Pollux, the twins and troublemakers. Ambroise, his zealous Antares and close friend. Penelopeia, chimeric and loyal Vega. And Akkara, his Arcturus and strength.
It's ridiculous how long it takes for him to notice; he is, of course, a deadly trained assassin. He is meant to be observant -- and normally he is! But somehow this becomes a blind spot. One that becomes too big to be dealt with by the time he realizes it.
He should've noticed when Aki, his Sirius, stood beside him one day while Danyal looked over his island and saw the sprawling spirits carrying on about their afterlife and bowing to him as they saw him, and said: "I looked down into the depths when I met you; I couldn't measure it." They aren't one for flowing prose, it took him so off guard he was silent for over a minute before he finally spoke.
Danyal should've recognized devotion for what it is, and yet he didn't. He should've recognized it when Antares began spouting praises about him, crowing about his radiance and resplendence to the heavens. He just brushed it off as Ambroise being Ambroise. He should've recognized it when Trix and Missy nearly broke Dash's leg after he knocked Danyal's books out of his hands, he excused it as them being protective. Of them coming from times where such violence may have been customary -- after all, that's what he used to be like. What he was still like, sometimes, when his emotions nearly got the better of him.
He should've noticed it when the people living on his island followed his word like gospel, looked at him like he hung the stars in the sky. When his friends gifted him a shawl with the moon phases delicately embroidered into it, with silver, shimmering thread and moving stars lovingly stitched into it. Their constellations seen clear as day in the dark fabric. When he found small shrines dedicated to him -- but they lacked any image of him beyond stones carved to look like moons, so he ignored it. When the religious imagery began popping up.
He really, really should've noticed it when a bunch of cultists accidentally summoned Antares, and Antares had turned to him when he arrived and called them heretics. But he was so centered on the fact that they had kidnapped one of his stars, that he hadn't paid much attention to what Ambroise had said.
Sages say that faith is blind, they should also say faith in you is even blinder.
It really only hits him one afternoon while he's sitting in Sam's room studying with Tucker, Missy and Trixie lounging at his feet, Aki sat on his right, Penelopeia braiding his hair, Ambroise draped against him, and Akkara lurking over him. Its one of the rare few times they're all in one room together.
It hits him like a bolt of lightning. He looks up from his textbook. "Oh Ancients," he says in no amounting shock. Everyone looks up to him.
"I've become my grandfather."

Sparing Batboy
First | Previous | Next
"You need to sleep." Bruce put his hand on Dick's shoulder.
Dick ran a hand through his disheveled hair. His eyes were dark from lack of rest.
It had been two days. Two days without a sign of Danny. Not even a glimpse on a street camera or his phone or clothes going missing. He's just gone. Evaporating into thin air.
"I need to find him," Dick said resolutely.
Bruce shook his head and opened his mouth to protest.
"Don't say anything," Dick said through clenched teeth. "You don't get to say anything about what I'm doing. You have done the same thing."
"Dick this is not the time to-"
"I said shut up! If you want to be helpful then go back to looking for him. Otherwise, leave." Dick said before jumping to another rooftop.
Dick knew at the end of the day he knew very little about Danny. He never asked because he knew it clearly hurt him to talk about it. All he needed to know was that Danny needed him. From the moment he first saw that watery smile on that kids face on his face when he invited Danny to eat with him.
Bruce definitely knew by this point that Danny and Batboy were the same. Especially when he asked where his grandson was while they searched. He hadn't said anything else about it. Dick didn't care at this point. I wouldn't change anything.
Part of Dick hated it. He has spent so many years comparing himself to Bruce. Trying not to become him yet still stuck in his shadow. To not repeat his mistakes.
Dick had made his fair share of mistakes and had paid for each one. He had lost so many people either from his own actions or not acting at all.
But what can he do now?
He just wanted to find his son.
He just didn't want to hear what came next. Commissioner Gordon called in with a clue…no it was a message.
A pair of wings splayed to mimic the iconic bat signal on a rooftop. The bloodied wings were severed at the base of the bone.
There were very few villains in Gotham that would do something so violent, fewer that would show off their act so brazenly. This kind of of senseless violence just to anger Batman was the mark of none other than Joker.
Joker had gotten his hands on another member of Dick's family. Flashbacks of Jason and Tim filled his mind.
And something just snapped.
In another part of the city, a certain clown glared at the limp body of the teen.
He had hoped the kid would at least wake up after having his wings cut off but despite his body state he slept soundly. He even had goons try to beat the kid awake but while the blood stayed any injuries disappeared instantly. Metas were a pain in the ass.
In the realm of dreams, Danny was comforted in the arms of the Nocturne. He got to visit his sister and friends in their dreams.
Jazz squeezed the life out of him as she asked him every question she could. Danny tried his best to answer each of them.
"Relax Jazz, I'm fine. I just can't come back. You know how it is. A grand destiny and all that." Danny said.
"But you're still just a kid Danny. You have school and-and-" Jazz said frantically trying to find the words.
"And I'm still going. Clockwork and Nocturne are teaching me everything I need to know until I take the throne." Danny wasn't ready to tell her about his new life.
She didn't need to know that he had a new family. Not when she was what he had to leave behind despite how much it kills him. There wasn't a day he didn't miss her or think of her. Nothing could replace her.
Unaware of this Nocturne and Clockwork watched as Danny dreamed within a dream.
"We should just kill the clown," Nocturne said resolutely as he peered into the material realm.
"You swore not to interfere with the mortals anymore," Clockwork warned.
"I'm not like you, Kronos. I can't sit idly by and watch this happen. I actually care." Nocturne said leveling a glare at the time ghost, his eyes blazing.
"So you care for the boy now? I thought you said you couldn't stand children?" Clockwork smirked his eyebrow raised.
Nocturne huffed shifting the blanket he had laid on Danny to cover him properly.
"I am close to mortals. It is what I am. Children tend to have the most innocent dreams. They have nightmares they don't know how to handle. They are fitful sleepers and cry before they wake. They can't parse dreams from reality. So much care goes into forming their dreams but at the same time, I must scare them. To remind them they should be afraid of the dark. I just can't stand to make them cry and lose those sweet little dreams." Nocturne brushed his clawed hand against Clock's cheek. "I don't understand how you do it. You let them hurt. You know what will happen yet you do nothing."
"It is my purpose. I care but all actions have consequences. I can't weigh the lives of a few for all. I asked you to put the boy to sleep to spare him the pain, at least for now. Had I not, I fear his fate would be darker." Clockwork sighed leaning into Nox's hand.
"Then let's kill that man. I know you want to my love." Nocturne's smiled wickedly eager to return to the living world.
"That is not our role. No, there is another who will come soon." Clockwork said pushing his malicious lover away. "Besides if the boy wakes you know he will undoubtedly cause untold damage. You know how much he hates clowns as is. There will be no coming back from that."
"You say that like it's a bad thing. I would be very proud." Nocturne hummed in delight.

But You Belong to Me (You Belong to Me) - (Yandere Jason Todd x Reader) (Prologue Pt.1)
When (Y/n) (L/n), resident Gotham Prep scholarship student, meets the new son of Bruce Wayne, a friendship like no other is formed. However, maybe what she's feeling is more than just what friends feel for each other. It's too bad that she never gets the chance to tell him before he, Jason, her first real friend (and real love) meets his brutal demise at the hands of the Joker.
Three years later, she finds herself still acquainted with the Bat's nightlives, comfortable monitoring them from her seat in the Batcave. The scars of Jason's death still run deep, yet, just when life starts to become a little normal, a new crime lord pops up out of nowhere.
Insert The Red Hood and his duffle bag full of heads, and he's here to collect what he was promised long ago.
Tumblr media
Heavy rain pelts down onto your frame, coveted in all black; what a bleak day it was, but you guessed the weather was befitting the occasion. There are three other people standing next to you also dressed in black. There was a hand on your shoulder (you don't know whose though, and you can't seem to care either), most likely in place to comfort you, or to try at least, but you couldn't focus on anything else but the too small coffin being lowered into the ground.
It was mahogany, a deep brown casket with gold details, something fancy. You knew if Jason were alive to see it, he'd hate it. He likes–liked red, he would have wanted a red one. But no, he was busy being lowered into the ground instead. Tears streamed down your face but you couldn't bring yourself to wipe them. What good would it do you? It was raining anyway.
The funeral comes to a close, although you're not sure when (how) time passed so quickly, leaving Jason, your best friend, the boy you loved, buried six feet under. You don't know what to do, you don't know what you can do. You just stand there, unable to move. He's dead. He’s dead. You’ll never see him again, he’s dead. You'll never sit on the couch with him arguing over his book of the week, he’s dead. You'll never get to stay up and watch the stars with him, he’s dead. You'll never get to tell him how you really feel, he's dead.
It's only when Bruce, his father, gently tries to guide you to the car you came in, you break. You lash out, twisting away from his hand as you trip over yourself trying to get to Jason’s headstone. Bruce and Dick, Jason’s older brother, exclaim in surprise and then follow after you. You collapse on your knees near the freshly lain dirt, sobbing with your full chest.
You could hear Bruce and Dick stop a couple of feet away from you, unable to comfort you in their own grief. That was fine though, you're not sure what you'd say or do if they tried to. They let you have your time with him, knowing it was just as difficult for you as it was for them, but as time ticks by another hour has passed and you’re still kneeling by his grave, no longer crying, but still unmoving.
You stared blankly at his headstone, still trying to realize that he wasn't coming back. When you feel someone grab your shoulder this time, you know it's Alfred. And you know what he's going to say to you, the words you’ve been dreading to hear.
“It’s time to go Miss (Y/n).” Alfred says gently, his own voice filled with grief at the loss of his grandson.
You don't say anything, your mouth opens, but no sound comes out. Alfred only sighs, before taking his leave. Good. Nobody was taking you away from here. A couple more minutes pass when you hear another pair of footsteps headed towards you. Bruce.
“(Y/n),” Bruce calls softly, yet voice still rough and raw from his own sorrow, “It’s–It's time to go now sweetie.”
You don't even turn around from where you were sitting. “No.” You say firmly.
Bruce and Alfred exchange a look.
“Miss (Y/n),” Alfred starts, “ you’ve been sitting out in the rain all day. Wouldn't you like a change of–”
“No!” You shout out this time. You flinch back from the sound of your own voice, and you could tell Alfred and Bruce were taken aback by your behavior as well.
With a sigh, Bruce decides that he'd come get you himself, any longer out here and you'd be sick for a week. His hands come around to grab you, to pull you up and you scream, kicking and fighting your way out of his hold.
“No! No, I wont leave him! I'm not gonna leave him! Let me go!” You cry, banging your punny fists against Bruce’s chest. He doesn't even flinch, he just holds you and lets you cry, kick, and scream.
“Please let me go! He–he doesn't like being alone, I promised him–I promised I'd never let him be alone.” You cry out again, your voice fizzling into another sob as your fussing stops. You just stand there, slumping into Bruce’s arms, sobbing once more.
He doesn't say another word, he just brushes your tears away and leads you towards the limo where Dick was already situated. Alfred sits you down into the limo, making his way to the driver's seat. Bruce slides in next, eyes aghast and tired, clearly haunted by the loss of his youngest. Dick is turned away from the rest of you in a similar state. The car starts, heading towards the manor.
It was a silent and short ride over, nobody daring or having the strength to say anything. The vehicle comes to a stop, everyone numbly piling out the door and into the Manor. Dinner would be forgotten tonight as everyone went to their own respective places to continue grieving. Bruce, to the Batcave; Alfred, to the Library; Dick, to patrolling the streets of Gotham (knowing that if he stayed in the manor, he’d end up breaking something); and you, to Jason's room.
You crumpled onto the maroon carpet, gazing around his room, hoping that you'd see him pop up and tell you it was all a joke. But he wouldn't. You saw his mangled body. You knew that he was never coming back. What's even worse, is that you could still see Jason’s unfinished math homework lying on his desk, the paper slightly crumpled from when he would undoubtedly grip and erase out of frustration. Mrs. Delaurier’s algebra II homework would forever remain unfinished.
You promptly break into tears once more.
~~~~~~
(3 years earlier)
Chilly air swept through the halls of Gotham Prep, but you, (Y/n) (L/n),  hardly noticed as you rushed to your next class. As a scholarship student among Gotham's elite, you had learned to keep your head down, focus on your studies, and ignore the gossip that buzzed in every corner of the prestigious school.
“Crap, crap, crap!” You huffed under your breath, picking up speed to reach your next class.
You were late, incredibly so by at least seven minutes. Sure, it isn't that crazy of an offense if you really think about it, but at Gotham Prep? As a scholarship student, you'd be crucified. Okay, maybe you were exaggerating a bit, but still, the point was there. You’re forced to break out of your thoughts when the familiar door of Mrs. Banfield’s 7th grade English class comes into view.
Practically sliding into a halt, you nervously open the door, ready for the earful and cruel laughter  you were sure to receive. You walk in, ready for the heat of Mrs. Banfield’s rage, only to find her standing at the front of the class, a boy with black hair standing right next to her. It seems you’ve actually interrupted her speaking, whoops. Everyone turns to you as you give your teacher a sheepish smile.
“Miss (L/n), so glad of you to finally join us.” She scorns, “Now please take a seat, we don't have time for dilly-dallying today.”
You just let out a meek “Yes ma’am.” and “Sorry ma’am.” as you take your seat near the windows. The desk pushed up next to you on your right remains empty, nobody in their right mind wants to sit next to the “charity case”. Well whatever, it was their loss anyway, you were awesome.
“Now, as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted,” Mrs. Banfield says giving you a pointed look. You just shrink back into your seat, “We have a new student joining us today, please welcome Jason Wayne-Todd.” She continues.
The class breaks out into excited clamor as everyone says their own rendition of a “welcome”. Of course, just what you needed, another stuck-up brat to put up with, and a Wayne too at that–god knows how far there's a stick shoved up his ass.
“Hello everyone, I'm glad to join y’all this school year.” Jason says, giving a nice wave to the class.
Others smile back, however, you could see their true intentions, they were only after his money and name. Your teacher says some more thing which you drown out, only to be pulled out of your day dream when you hear a mention of your name.
“Jason, your seat will be over there by (Y/n). (Y/n) please put your hand up!” She all but yells, glaring in your direction.
You tiredly put your hand up as Jason makes his way to you. He puts his backpack on the bag hook attached to the desk before sitting right next to you. He gives you a one off glance before he pulls out his notebook and turns his attention to the front. You glare at him.
‘How rude.’ You think to yourself, before you do the same show of pulling out your supplies. He didn't even bother talking to you, let alone acknowledge you. What a jerk.
You huffed quietly under your breath and focused on the lesson, but the boy sitting next to you lingered in your thoughts. So that was Jason Wayne-Todd—the son of Bruce Wayne. Another rich kid who’d probably never give you a second thought, just like everyone else at Gotham Prep. You convinced yourself that it didn’t matter. He was just another asshole.
But then, a few days later, everything changed.
It was lunch period, and as usual, you sat alone. Not that you minded, really. It was quieter that way, less drama to deal with. You had found a nice spot beneath a tree, away from the main courtyard, where you could enjoy your food in peace.
You were halfway through a sandwich when you heard footsteps crunching on the gravel. You glanced up and there he was again, Jason Todd. He stood there for a moment, looking at you like he was sizing you up. His expression was unreadable, but there was something in his eyes, something curious.
“You always sit alone?” he asked, his voice casual but direct.
You blinked in surprise. "Uh, yeah. So?"
He shrugged and then, to your utter shock, sat down next to you without asking for permission. “Guess I’ll join you then.”
You stared at him for a moment, trying to figure out what his angle was. Jason Todd didn’t seem like the type to care about someone like you—someone who wasn’t from the same world as the rest of these privileged kids. But there he was, sitting with you like it was the most natural thing in the world.
“Why?” you blurted out before you could stop yourself. “I mean, don’t you have other people to sit with?”
Jason raised an eyebrow, popping open a juice box with a smirk. “Maybe. But they’re all boring and stuck up rich kids”
You quirk an eyebrow. “Aren't you a—how'd you put it? A boring, stuck-up rich kid too?” You say, quoting him.
He just looks into you with his blue eyes(Jesus, how were they so blue?), confusion swimming on his face.
“I'm adopted?” He says, all but a question. How did you not know that? It's like the only thing the news and everyone at school are talking about.
“Oh,” You blank, “but you look just like him?”
“Yeah, I get that a lot, it's kinda scary how similar we look.” Is all he says.
“So you’re not just some rich asshole with a stick up his ass?”
He stares at you, expression neutral before he erupts into laughter.
“No, no, god no! I'm from Crime Alley!” He exclaims through laughter.
Your jaw nearly drops at his words. Crime Alley? The notorious part of Gotham, where crime and poverty thrived like the weeds in the cracks of forgotten streets? Jason Todd, the new Wayne, adopted into Gotham’s wealthiest family, was from Crime Alley?
Jason noticed your reaction and grinned, amused at the disbelief on your face. “Yeah, don’t look so shocked. Not all of us were born into the lap of luxury,” he said, leaning back against the tree, his juice box still in hand.
You blinked, trying to process the unexpected revelation. “I didn’t realize,” you said, more quietly now. “I just assumed—”
“That I was like all the other rich kids?” he finished for you, raising an eyebrow.
You nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed. “Yeah. Sorry.”
Jason chuckled and shook his head. “Don’t be. I get it. It’s Gotham Prep—it’s all about money and status. But I’m not like them. Never will be.”
You couldn’t help but feel intrigued by him now. He wasn’t what you thought—far from it. There was depth to Jason, a complexity that set him apart from the rest of the students. Maybe that’s why he chose to sit with you, the ‘charity case.’ He didn’t fit in either.
“You’re not like them,” you murmured, meeting his gaze. “Neither of us are.”
Jason’s smirk softened into something more genuine as he studied you for a moment. Then, he shrugged and took a sip of his juice. “Guess that makes us both the odd ones out.”
You shared a small smile with him, a strange warmth blooming in your chest. For the first time since you’d arrived at Gotham Prep, you didn’t feel so alone. Jason might’ve been the new kid, but somehow, sitting next to him, you felt a connection. Like he understood what it was like to be on the outside looking in.
And from that day on, Jason Todd became your closest friend. The two of you spent nearly every lunch together after that, sharing sandwiches and laughing at the ridiculousness of the rich kids around you. He introduced you to his world, the one he came from, telling you stories about life in Crime Alley that were equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious.
 He told you stories about Bruce Wayne, about how nice he was and about his brother Dick Grayson, who doesn't really like him that much. You frowned at that. How could anyone not like Jason? With his pretty blue eyes and warm smile, his rambunctious laughter and humor, his kindness and—What the hell was wrong with you?
Anyways, you in turn told him about your family. How you were an only child, how you used to have a pet dog named Pudgy, how both your parents worked all day and every day, leaving you with enormous amounts of free time. They weren't neglectful, or at least they weren't on purpose, but they needed to make money. Your family wasn't living in poverty, but you would be if your parents didn't take on the crazy hours they did.
So you understood. Sure it sucked, but what could you do? Besides, it wasn't all that terrible; when your parents did have free time you’d spend the day laughing in the kitchen with your mom or fixing something in the garage with your dad. You knew they loved you, and that was all that mattered.
Over time, Jason slowly introduced the idea of you hanging out at his house. The first time he asked, you refused, saying how you didn't want to intrude or be a bother (much to Jason’s dismay and Alfred’s amusement when Jason would complain about your stubborn behavior). But of course, there were only so many times you could refuse Jason's begging and puppy-dog eyes, and before you knew it, you were being picked up by Alfred Pennyworth in an expensive limo that you didn't even know the name of.
That first ride in the limo was surreal. You had tried to focus on anything but the fact that Alfred Pennyworth was sitting just a few feet away from you, his calm, dignified presence making the luxurious car feel even more intimidating. Your heart pounded in your chest as the car wove through Gotham’s bustling streets, and you found yourself fidgeting nervously with your hands.
“Are you all right, Miss (L/n)?” Alfred asked, glancing at you in the rearview mirror.
You startled at the sound of his voice, managing a small, sheepish smile. “Y-Yeah, I’m just not used to all this. I’ve never been in a limo before.”
Alfred’s expression softened, the faintest hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Well, I assure you, Master Jason and Master Bruce will be pleased to have you. No need to be nervous.”
But how could you not be nervous? You were about to step foot inside Wayne Manor. The home of Gotham’s most powerful, wealthy family.
What if you broke something?
What if Bruce didn't like you?
What if he doesn't like you so much that he tells Jason he can't be your friend anymore? Your thoughts continue to devolve into frantic “what ifs” as the drive continues.
When the car finally pulled up to the massive iron gates, your stomach twisted into knots. You stared out the window as the gates opened slowly, revealing a grand driveway that led up to the imposing structure of Wayne Manor itself. It was bigger than you’d imagined—an intimidating, sprawling mansion that looked more like a castle than a home.
You swallowed hard. Jason lived here?
Alfred parked the limo and got out to open your door. You stepped out slowly, feeling incredibly small as you gazed up at the manor. Before you could fully comprehend your surroundings, the front doors of the manor burst open, and there he was, Jason, running toward you with that infectious grin on his face.
“You finally made it!” Jason called out, his voice filled with excitement as he approached. He grabbed your hand and pulled you toward the house, practically dragging you up the steps. “Come on, I’ve got so much to show you.”
“Jason, slow down!” you laughed, feeling your nerves start to ease a little in the face of his enthusiasm. He always had a way of making you feel comfortable, even in situations as intimidating as this.
As you crossed the threshold into Wayne Manor, you were struck by just how massive it was inside. The ceilings seemed to stretch endlessly above you, the halls adorned with intricate chandeliers and elegant artwork. It was the epitome of wealth and luxury, but it didn’t feel cold or lifeless. There was warmth here, in the way the soft light filtered through the grand windows, and in the way Jason moved through the space like it was his own.
“Whoa,” you breathed out as you took it all in. “This place is huge.”
Jason laughed. “Yeah, it’s a bit much, huh? I didn’t know what to do with myself when I first got here. But you get used to it. Come on, I’ll show you my room.”
You let him lead you through the grand corridors, trying to keep your awe in check. As you passed by one of the doors, you spotted a tall, dark-haired man walking by—Bruce Wayne himself. Your eyes widened, and you froze for a moment.
Bruce glanced your way and offered a small, warm smile. “You must be (Y/n) (L/n),” He says, reaching his hand out for a handshake. You nervously reach out and shake his hand. “ Jason’s talked a lot about you.”
You blinked, stunned. “H-He has?”
Bruce nodded, his expression becoming one of amusement as Jason blubbered behind you. “Oh yes, he never really stops actually. So it’s nice to finally meet the person who–”
“Okay! That's enough dad, we’ll see you later!”
You could see a tint of red on Jason's cheeks, clearly embarrassed by his dad, as he dragged you towards his room.
Finally, you reached Jason’s room. It was more modest compared to the rest of the house, filled with a mix of personal items that spoke to his life before and after Wayne Manor. Posters of action movies and comic books adorned the walls, and his bed was piled high with mismatched pillows and blankets. It wasn’t neat, but it was cozy. It felt like him—chaotic, comfortable, and completely unpretentious.
“Welcome to my domain,” Jason announced with a grin, flopping onto his bed and patting the space beside him.
You sat down next to him, finally letting out a breath you didn’t realize you’d been holding. The day continues like it was normal, with you and Jason playing games of hide-and-seek, tag (much to Alfred’s displeasure), and some video games in the playroom. The day comes to a close as Jason drags you down for dinner, saying how “There's no better cooking than what Alfie makes.”
You’re bound to disagree until you take your first bite of food. You turn to Jason, fork halfway in your mouth, with a look of pure bliss in your eyes. He meets your gaze with a smudge expression of “I told you so.” Bruce just watches fondly, glad that Jason is adjusting and glad that he has a friend he is comfortable with. You were a sweet girl, Bruce concurred, and with what Jason told him about your family’s situation, he was more than happy to have you around.
Soon, you were parting ways with the Waynes for the night, Jason giving you a big hug whilst Bruce relayed to you that you were welcome over any time. On the drive back to your house, Alfred tells you how thankful he was that someone “as kind” and “lovely” as you had come into Jason's life. A blush blooms on your face as you squeak out an embarrassed “No problem Mr. Pennyworth.”
The months continue on as you and Jason head into 8th grade, finally having more classes together in your schedules. The days were seemingly normal as you continued to spend time at Wayne manor, now becoming more comfortable with Bruce and Alfred; you spend time in the ginormous library as Jason helps you with your English homework and you help him with math or simply chill in Jason's room or by the pool.
Things take a weird turn one day when Jason comes to school more tired than usual. He looks like he's been run ragged, a couple of purple bruises on his arms. You worriedly fret over him as he laughs saying he just fell down the stairs. Your jaw drops as you turn on him for being so stupid.
However, the bruises never stop. But that's not the only new thing, Jason looks bigger. He's got new muscles and everything and he's also gained more inches over you. As much as his new physique makes you blush, it worries you that he continues to come to school for the next three months, tired and aching, continually avoiding all your questions and being secretive. You hate to admit that his secrecy hurts more than you wanted to realize.
In the far back of your mind, your suspicions lead to Bruce. You liked Bruce, he was fun, he was nice, and you really couldn't imagine him doing something like this to Jason. He loved Jason. So, you let the thought fade. You knew Bruce would rather kill himself than ever lay a hand on Jason. But still, something was going on. Not long after, big news spread through Gotham. Headlines like “Return of Robin!” or “Batman’s New Sidekick!” are all the rage. You never cared much for the vigilante stuff, but even you had to admit Batman was cool, but his new Robin? Well–
Jason casually brings it up on day during one of your regular dinners. You’re busy shoveling noodles into your mouth when Jason asks you something.
“So (Y/n), I never really got to ask, but who's your favorite superhero?”
Unbeknownst to you, Bruce and Alfred share a knowing look before turning their attention to you. Yes, Bruce was curious too.
You think for a minute before coming up with your answer.
“Hmmm, if i had to pick, I’d say Batman.”
Bruce grins in a silent victory whilst Jason scowls.
“What!? Why him?!” He all but yells.
“Well don't you think it's cool that he still fights even though he has no powers? Plus, he dresses up as a bat, I like bats, they’re cute.” You say.
Bruce just lets out a small, thoughtful “huh” as he continues eating.
“But seriously, Batman??” Jason questions incredulously.
“Well, if you want me to be completely honest, Batman isn't my actual favorite. My real favorite superhero, well, everyone says that he doesn't count ‘cause he's a sidekick, so.”
“Well pray tell, who is your real favorite Miss (Y/n)?” Alfred now asks as he picks up some empty dishes.
“It's Robin of course!” You say smiling. Jason proceeds to spit out his water and Bruce chuckles.
You glance worriedly at Jason.
“Are you alright Jay?”
“Y–yup! Now what was that about m–Robin?”
“Oh yeah, he's super cool bro! He fights side by side with Batman, and he took down Ivy all by himself, and he’s super cute too.” You gush, unable to help yourself.
Jason’s face bursts into red as he stammers about how he's suddenly full. Bruce continues to smile like a cat that just caught a canary.
After you head home, Bruce continues to tease Jason, resulting in a multitude of pillows being thrown at Bruce's face.
~~~~~~
You only come to discover Jason's secret about five months later, completely by accident by the way. It was a school event, a student showcase. The halls of the venue were filled with kiosks and booths where parents could see and celebrate the accomplishments of their children. Yet again, you found yourself at your section alone, standing in front of a painting you had made.
It had won second place, a blue ribbon tapped to its side and you were so proud of yourself. You knew your parents were too, they had told you themselves, but unfortunately, they wouldn't be able to make it. That's okay though, you knew they were working their tails off so that they could provide for you. A missed school showcase was the last thing they needed to worry or feel guilty about. Besides, it wasn't like you’d be completely alone, Jason, Bruce, and Alfred would be here soon.
With that, you continued thanking the random people who congratulated you on your placement, waiting for Jason and his family to show up. Of course, that's when disaster struck. An explosion goes off in the cafeteria as you get thrown back from its force. Your ears ring as you hear muffled screaming and cries, smoke making your vision blurry with tears.
You cough, trying to pick yourself off of the ground, a burning pain shooting through your leg as you do so. You sluggishly look down (god your head hurts) only to be met with blood all over your right leg. Jesus, that was a lot of blood. So much in fact, you couldn't even really make out what your injury looked like.
Tears flow down your face at the pain. God, everything hurt, but you needed to get out of here. Wait–oh no, Jason! You didn't know where he was! You pray that he was still on the way over when the explosions went off. With a sharp cry, you begin limping towards an exit, trying to stay conscious and on your feet with all the chaos going on around you. People push and shove, trying to get out but you just grit your teeth and fight to stay standing because you knew that if you went down, you weren't too sure if you'd be able to get back up.
Through the cacophony of screams and explosions, you realize that a fight is happening. You see the familiar figures of Batman and Robin battling with the ever terrifying Joker. Another explosion rocked the venue, shaking you out of your thoughts as debris fell around you. You barely managed to avoid a chunk of falling concrete, throwing yourself against the nearest wall, the pain in your leg intensifying as you cried out. You needed to get out of here.
You try to move, you really do, but you can't get your leg to work. You collapse near a wall, clutching your leg in pain trying to get the bleeding to stop. Someone help me. Someone–anyone.
You’re crying now, your sobs being buried under the chaos of the battle. You sit there for god knows how long, praying that it ends, the screaming, the explosions, the carnage. You want it all to stop. And it does. The Joker is caught and shipped off to Arkham Asylum as Batman, Robin, the police, and paramedics start sweeping through the rubble. However, right now, there's only one thing running through Robin’s mind.
He has your location pulled up, thank god he gave you that bracelet with a tracker. He knew it’d lead him to you, you always wore it. He could hear Batman telling him to slow down but he couldn't bother to listen. He has to find you.
When he does, his heart breaks. You were curled up against a crumbling wall, hands and legs covered in blood as tears marred your now grime and dust ridden face. His mind went blank, panic rising in his chest as he sprinted toward you, the world around him fading into background noise. Nothing else mattered right now—only you.
He fell to his knees beside you, his hands shaking as they hovered over your body, unsure where to touch, where to help without hurting you more. You blinked up at him, eyes unfocused and wet with tears.
“Robin…” Your voice was weak, barely above a whisper, but the relief in your tone was unmistakable. You reached out, your hand trembling as it found his.
“My friend…I have a friend, Jason–Jason Todd. Find him please–he's still out–” You’re unable to finish as you break out into a coughing fit.
Jason’s heart stopped at the sound of his own name leaving your lips. Here you were, injured and bleeding, worrying about someone else. His chest tightened as he watched you struggle, your blood-stained hand trembling in his grasp, pleading for help that he had already given. He wanted to tell you—needed to tell you—but now wasn’t the time.
“I’m here,” he said, his voice cracking despite the mask. “I’m right here.”
You blinked through the haze of pain, your brow furrowing in confusion. “No... I meant Jason, he—he’s still out there—”
Wait a minute, that voice–you knew that voice. You’ve heard it a thousand times, every day. Jason. That was Jason's voice. You don't care if you were probably concussed, you knew his voice.
“J–Jay?” You slurred out, trying to get closer to him. Robin freezes, Jason freezes. You recognized him.
[All right folks, that's it for part 1 of the prologue. I hope you guys enjoyed it, expect part 2 soon! I want to preface two things though: 1.) The reader is not adopted/going to be adopted by Bruce 2.) The 2nd part of the prologue will still be taking place as a flashback. You won't get into the actual main plot till chapter 1.]

Tumblr media
"Were you expecting a letter?"
Your husband Satoru Gojo doesn't even look at you as he speaks. Instead his face is expressionless, like a mask he was wearing. Almost like your mother.
He was acting so different from yesterday, it was scary. Did you cross a line?
"No, why? Did a letter come?"
His voice isn't heared a couple of seconds, until he spoke again. "Yeah, from your mother."
Your eyes couldn't help but widen as his words sunk in. She knew. She knew where you were. The house wasn't yours anymore, she knew. How? Since when? HOW?
Satoru's head rose and his eyes suddenly seemed so far away. Like an ocean you will never cross. Cold, like the icebergs in the Antarctica. Not like anytime you saw them before.
"Oh really?"
You kept your voice steady as you took a grape from the offered lunch of the hotel.
"Yeah, here." he slided the piece of paper across the small table to you. Your name written in the handwriting you knew so well. "Does she write you regularly?"
Your mind froze as you thought back. Yeah, she did. But not because of the reason he thought she did. Not because she was worried about her precious daughter. No, more like she worried about her hopefully grandson.
You just nodded and wanted to open the letter as his warm hand grabbed yours.
For a moment he seemed approachable. His eyes bigger than before he looked at you with almost desperation in those deep eyes.
"Are you really close with her?"
The piece of paper sank deep into your skin as you looked at him. What should you do? You couldn't let him know, your mother would kill you! But...
It was so hard when he looked at you like that.
Your hands fiddled with the piece of the paper and drew your whole attention. They were twitching. You wanted to rip them out.
"Yes, I am." the lie left your mouth like a rock falling down a mountain. Fast but not safe. "Didn't I tell you that already?"
His eyes and mind closed from you eight in front of your eyes. You could see his emotions being pushed down and his body sitting up straight.
"Well, then." he stood up to go to the bathroom. "Could you tell me later what was written inside?"
You just nodded as he left. What happened since yesterday? What did you do? How did you get in this situation?
+:★:+*━━━ A bit ago ━━━*+:★:+*
The bed was cold. So so cold. Your consciousness slowly grew as you shivered at the unexpected coldness under the covers of the big bed.
He wasn't here.
Did you wake up early than usual? Normally he would wake you by accidentally being a bit louder when he came back from his round around the town. But Satoru didn't seem in sight.
Your body had the usual heaviness it was yesterday freed from. It wasn't easy to leave the bed but you wanted to get up.
You felt terrible.
The tiredness became unreal. Why couldn't you just be well rested after that much sleep? It felt like a boulder pressed your body down and chained you to the bed. Your body seemed so lazy.
Legs heavy, you slowly made your way to the bathroom. The clock surprising you.
10:24?
That couldn't be right. No, Satoru should have showed up by that already! And you surely haven't slept that much! Right?
As you looked at your things you needed to get ready, you sighed. There it was like every morning. The hairpin of your mother, your wedding present.
Why did you even take it with you? Yes, it was pretty but the guilt that came with it was far more influence. And you didn't even use it!
It almost seemed to look at you disappointed.
Your exhaustion was really getting out of hand! Maybe you should talk to Hina's grandmother for advice against sleeping problems...
As you began to brush your teeth, you this feeling of uneasiness began to creep up your back. Slowly, like a someone was watching you. Like something will happen...
The sound of the door opening made you cough up your toothpaste.
"Er, phew! Satoru?" you called over your shoulder while washing your face.
"Yeah?"
"Did you have trouble?" you dried your face trying to get your eyes to open properly. "You're later than usual."
He kept quiet for a couple of seconds. Then he sighed. "Yeah, you could say that."
The silence after that wasn't like the silence yesterday. It was awkward, you didn't know what to say. You couldn't explain it, but he sounded different. He didn't sound like smiling.
"I'm going down to eat lunch." his voice got a bit more quiet and moved away. "I didn't get anything."
"Okay." you didn't know what was happening, but something was wrong. The comfort of yesterday wasn't seen in any corner, didn't matter how much you searched for it.
Oh, god you did something wrong, didn't you?
+:★:+*━━━ Now ━━━*+:★:+*
Your letter weighed heavy in your hand. And as you opened it, the weight only seemed to grow.
Dear daughter,
I hope this letter finds you enjoying yourself. Well, after all that's what you so desperately seem to want. You can count yourself lucky, your slip up is being forgiven. The higher ups seem to be of the opinion that you acted for the greater good and just didn't think. That you wanted to take action in the matter heir.
They expect that you will expect a child when you come back.
The luck really is on your side. They wouldn't be half as kind if they weren't aware of where you were. Your vacation isn't frowned upon, as long you don't forget why you took it.
Enjoy your days, Sincerely, your mother.
On the back was the date of your next meeting engraved. She didn't write you anything else. You felt like throwing up.
Taking action in the matter heir? Expecting a child? You weren't close to anything like that!
What would they do to you, if they find out? No, when they find out? What will your mother say?
The table full of things to eat was suddenly all grey. You didn't feel hungry anymore, even though you didn't eat much.
Tears began to form in your eyes. You couldn't help it. The reality of what you were supposed to do came crushing down on you, making no room for the lightness of yesterday.
You desperately rubbed your eyes, trying to stop the tears but it was no use.
You couldn't show yourself like this to Satoru.
Your room didn't have the thickest walls, he would hear you in the bathroom. So you moved to the bathroom for the guests that weren't staying over the night and tried to calm down.
What were you supposed to tell Satoru?
+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*
Satoru knew that he should have given you both letters. But there was this uneasiness in the room with all these questions.
Why did these old hags even write you?
He couldn't explain it to himself. And he wanted to open the letter so bad to find the answer. But...
He didn't want to open letters that were for you. That felt so wrong. Like he was using your trust and god he didn't want you to be mad at him again.
But did you even trust him?
If you did, why were you lying to him? You seemed to have anything but a good relationship with your mother. But when he asked you, you insisted that you did. Two times.
Your face as you looked at the letter wasn't screaming happiness. No, it was confusion and even something like fear.
Did you think you could fool him?
The mirror was fogged as he left the shower. He felt uneasy. Like he wasn't seeing something he should.
Sighing, he started to get ready. Maybe he was over thinking. Maybe you did have a good relationship with your mother. You did have meetings with her a couple of times.
Which were really long...
The meetings?
+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*
"You don't look well. Are you okay?"
In fact you looked like you had cried. But you didn't seem to show that to him, meaning you smiled at him like that would be a prove.
"Yeah, don't worry."
He couldn't stand this charade that you played now. But he decided to play along. "What did she write to you?"
"Oh, the usual. I should greet you from my mother. She wished us a good honeymoon and that we would enjoy our time." the laugh that followed was more than forced.
He felt his patience slipping away. "I thought she didn't like me?"
You looked at him like he was speaking another language. "I mean yeah-, but your still my husband which she respects." the fastness with wich you spoke gave you away.
You were nervous. Why were you this nervous in his presence?
"Ah."
"Are you okay?" you looked at him with a frown. "You seem on edge."
Oh and how he was on edge. Who wasn't, when they knew they were being lied to?
"Yeah, just a bit stressed." he couldn't help but look at the letter in your hands. "Have the feeling there is a curse nearby."
"A curse?" your eyes were grewing big. "Here?"
"I will look for it later." he was sure he needed some time alone after this. "We can go to the restaurant some other time, right?"
You nodded, a terrified look in your eyes. "Of course!" you stood up. "I should go to our room, I don't want to hinder your work."
"Wait."
Now or never.
"I wanted to ask you something."
You stopped. Your tense back to him. "What is it?"
"Did the higher-ups bother you with something? Regarding our marriage?" he cleared his throat. "Just curious."
You didn't look at him, just muttered a small 'No' and 'Is there anything else?'
He let you go upstairs. Now he was sure of it. You kept something from him. And this something was in those letters.
+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*
Satoru was out for hours.
You were worried about him. He seemed so out of it this morning. And then these questions...
Was he onto something?
You couldn't afford his mistrust. Not when your whole purpose is making an heir!
That sounded so wrong.
You looked at the books on your night table he bought for you. They were all a bit different. Some a different genre. Like he wanted to make sure you had at least on book that you would like.
You hated yourself for lying to this man.
You sighed as the usual tiredness overcame you again. Grabbing a book you read. Just wanting to forget this morning.
+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*
It was late. The moon was already up and as he went up the stairs he knew that you would already be in bed.
He canceled your reservation.
He wasn't sure why, but he didn't want to ho there anymore. Not after he read what these douchbags were writing you.
Not after he knew what you kept from him.
He opened the door slowly and careful trying not to wake you. You were curled up on the bed, you seemed to shiver.
On the table next to you the second letter.
"Satoru, is that you?" your teeth were chattering.
"Yeah, it's just me."
He felt so dumb as he looked at you. So dumb for thinking you could just have a normal honeymoon, when you weren't even in love.
"Need your warmth." you sniffled. "Please?"
He was fighting with himself. He didn't want to invade your personal space, not after reading all of that. Not when you thought of it like it was your duty to-
He shivered just thinking about it.
But at the same time he didn't want you to be cold. And how could he deny his darling wife?
"I'm coming." very carefully he laid himself next to you, trying to avoid touching you, just carefully hugging you. "Is that better?"
You seemed to sleep already.
+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*
It was so cold.
Your body felt like being pushed around, everything seemed to spin. Your hands felt frozen, like they didn't were under the covers.
Your throat was dry and something sticky seemed to make itself home in it. The force that held your eyes closed was so strong.
The spinning didn't seem to end.
Wait, a second... It didn't just feel like your body moved, it did!
With much willpower you forced your eyes to open and slowly turned around. And your blood seemed to freeze with your body.
There was Satoru sleeping but had a frown on his face. And a distance between you. But not because he moved, you were pushed back. By something you couldn't see. By infinity.
...
You forced yourself up, away from the bed. Everything started to make sense. He wasn't comfortable in your presence. After yesterday he searched for distance, even in his subconsciousness.
You were to pushy, god, why were you so pushy?!
Slowly you took steps back, trying to get away from the invisible wall that so clearly pushed you away. Almost stumbling you went into the bathroom.
01:24
Kinda ironic.
As you looked in the mirror you gasped. You looked like a corpse. Your fingers in the light even a bit blue. Panic started to rise and pushed you onte the ground.
Spit began to collect in your mouth and your stomach twisted. Your head was so heavy as you slided over to the toilet.
And then it just fell all out.
Your stomach twisting and turning, the pain slowly leaving but your eyes were burning even more.
It seemed to go for hours as you sat there. Defeated, so so powerless.
You felt disgusting.
+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*
You didn't know how, but somehow you collected all your pieces and cleaned everything before falling onto the couch.
It was harder then the bed, but that didn't bother you anymore. The distance between you was far more important now.
He seemed to sleep so peaceful now.
He had moved since you stood up. God, now you were the one watching him sleep, you should get your act together.
But even though you were so so tired, you couldn't sleep.
Your surrounding seemed to watch you and the uneasy feeling from the morning came doubled back.
The luck really is on your side. They wouldn't be half as kind if they weren't aware of where you were.
They knew where you were. They could just come. Maybe even tomorrow. And even though you knew that would be unreasonable, the fear didn't leave.
You wanted to cry. But it was so cold.
+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*
It was early than usual. Satoru was still sleeping as your eyes opened. Your body was heavy but the feeling of disgust with yourself made you move.
Normally you wouldn't go downstairs, you would hjust read. But you didn't want to be there when he woke up. No that would be unbearable.
So you went into the bathroom again, the crime scene of the night nowhere in sight. The hairpin waiting for you on the counter like it was ready to stab you.
A laugh escaped your lips.
Your mother really couldn't leave you alone, even now she stole herself into your thoughts.
Why were you even here?
Trying to get away from all of these curses in this hotel room, you hurried as you stepped the staircase down. You really needed a light chat with Hina's grandmother.
And some tips against bad sleeping.
+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*━━━*+:★:+*
Satoru hadn't slept so bad in a long time. He turned and turned but couldn't get any good position. And he was sure that that couldn't be normal.
Normally he had a rhythm in his sleep. Get the minimum that you need and get up. He normally had to work after all.
But now his thoughts just couldn't shut up.
He woke up much later than usual. And he knew something was wrong when his six eyes were tired.
You weren't in the room.
The room was so coldly empty, his thoughts almost were silent. But only for a short time, they began to circle around the thing that was bugging him, even in his dreams.
Your lying.
And he knew he shouldn't, he knew that what he was doing was maybe much much worse than just lying but the letter from your mother was right next to him on the night table.
"Didn't I tell you that already?"
Fuck it. Maybe this was unreasonable, but he had to live with you for the rest of his life. And he hated secrets.

"Oh, Mrs. Gojo you look like you didn't sleep well, is everything alright?" the sweet elderly woman looked concerned as you sat down in front of her.
"Just trouble with sleeping. Do you have any tips?"
Her concern only grew in her eyes. "Well I drink warm milk before sleeping, I can bring you a cup every evening, if you want?"
You smiled at her. "That would be lovely, thank you."
She just nodded, hesitant smiling back. "It's naturally."
She brought you a hot chocolate, while she handled the organization of the guests. Turning the pages in the guestlist she spoke again.
"Were you happy to receive the letters?"
"Oh yeah, my mother is always a surprise." you began to chuckle a bit, but it died down in your sticky throat as you realized what she has just said.
"Oh I can relate! I write Hina always a couple of letters at the same time!" the woman chuckled a bit. "But I thought the two letters were from different people?"
"Oh they were." you tried to keep your composure even though the panic mixed with lots of anger made it really hard for you.
Really Satoru?
Two letters?

Pregnancy with Leah was a journey that you wouldn't trade for the world. You and your wife had been unsuccessful a couple times with the IVF journey, so when one day you received the good news, the both of you were on top of the world and couldn't wait to meet the little wonder that was going to be growing in your belly.
It was pure bliss, really. Ever since you found out you were pregnant, Leah had stepped into a role that you'd never seen her take up before. She was a very caring person before, but she had stepped that up a notch. It came to a point where you even had to tell her to refrain a little, that you were more than capable of going to work and doing household chores in the first months of your pregnancy – Leah was reluctant to give in, but when she noticed after a few weeks that she wouldn't be able to keep up with the household chores compared with her busy footballing schedule, she gave in.
As the months passed, and you started experiencing the hardships of pregnancy, Leah was the perfect partner. She would be by your side every time you were heaving up your breakfast, wouldn't leave your side if you were feeling weak and would be experiencing blood sugar drops, she would accommodate to all of your cravings – meaning she would sometimes drive to the shop at 3am, eyes still full of sleep, but on a mission to get you pickles and mustard, because that was seemingly what your stomach made you crave that night.
One of the hardest things, though, that you didn't expect, was how wary you were of your body changing. The first couple months nothing visibly changed, not until you started showing. You and Leah loved the little bump in your stomach, a testament to the little life that was growing in your belly. But as the months passed and your stomach started to grow more and more, came the big visible changes on your body. You were well aware that you were going to put on weight and that your body wouldn't look the way it had before you grew pregnant, but you were still in your head about it.
The stretch marks, the bloated feeling, the swollenness – that accompanied with naturally heightened emotions, it wasn't nice. You knew that it was normal and that it was only happening because your body had to accommodate for the child that was growing inside of you, but you couldn't get it out of your head.
Leah reassured you every day that she thought you were beautiful, that you'd never looked this good throughout the 5 years of your relationship. She would tell you about the "pregnancy glow" all the time, and would claim that she'd fallen in love with you over and over again ever since you started to show.
You thought it was going to be better after you'd given birth, but the stretch marks and the loose skin didn't magically disappear – you had certainly hoped it would. You'd stuck to applying cream to your stretch marks throughout your whole pregnancy, so you knew the skin would form back to normal rather sooner than later, but you still found it hard to look at yourself in the mirror. The body you had worked so hard for over the last couple years was no longer there, and as much as you had a lovely little baby boy to show for it, you couldn't help but miss it.
It was Friday night, set date night for Leah and you. It was the first time since the birth of your son that the two of you would be going out for date night, rather than staying in. Amanda had taken him for the night, very excited about the prospect of her grandson staying with her for the first time.
You were in your bedroom, looking through the options in your wardrobe, struggling to pick out what to wear. Truthfully, you didn't know what you would even fit in, at this moment in time. You'd lost some of your pregnancy weight but certainly not all of it, and you weren't sure if you would fit into any of the dresses that you owned. You'd tried a couple, to no avail. You wanted to look good, look good for you and look good for your wife, who had been nothing but exceptional to you the past 9 months and more.
You heard a soft padding of footsteps up the stairs, Leah probably noticed that you had been in there for quite some time. She entered your bedroom and you couldn't help but feel remorseful when you shot her a look. She was clad in a straight black pair of trousers, combined with a white, sleeveless top. A very simple outfit, but she looked amazing. She had her hair down, a welcome change to the ponytail she always had it in.
"Hey baby, you good? Just checking, you've been in here for quite some time now," Leah said softly, body leaning against the doorframe. You shot her a defeated look. "I don't know, Le. Nothing fits me anymore, I don't know what to wear," you vaguely gestured towards your wardrobe. You nearly missed the pitiful look that crossed your girlfriend's face before she made her way over to you, wrapping her arms around your waist from behind, leaning her chin on your shoulder.
"What about that one," Leah proposed, pointing towards a yellow dress that she gifted you for your anniversary last year. "Tried, it's too tight on my thighs," you responded. She hummed, looking elsewhere. "The red one," she questioned, met with another shake of your head. "Nope, felt like it was suffocating me," Leah nodded, pressing a kiss to your shoulder. "How about just a pair of jeans and a shirt then, hmm?"
"None of my jeans fit me, Le. Why do you think I've been walking around in sweatpants the past two weeks," you said, a slight hint of annoyance clear in your voice. "Okay, I'm sorry," she said softly, rubbing her hands over your stomach appreciatively. Before long, she turned you around in her grip, looking you into the eye.
"Would you rather stay home instead, chill on the couch and watch a film, that works for me too," Leah proposed. You casted your gaze down. That sounded perfect, but you didn't want to take this away from her and from you both. You knew how excited Leah had been for today, the day accentuated with a red circle on the calendar that hung in your home office. It'd been ages since the both of you spent some quality time outside the house, finally finding a vacant spot that you two wanted to make use of as best as possible.
She took your chin in between her thumb and index finger, slowly pushing your head back up. She placed one of her hands on the side of your face, rubbing your cheek affectionately. You braved a look at her, eyes slightly watery. "Are you sure," you questioned, but before you could express yourself further, Leah was already nodding. "I'm sure. All I want is to be with you, and I want you to be comfortable. We've got plenty of time together to go out for dinner, but if you'd rather stay in tonight, then we're staying in," she said, putting a strand of hair behind your ear. She wiped away a stray tear that had escaped your eye, pressing a soft kiss against the wet trail it had left behind.
"Come on, love, I'll change real quick and then we can get comfortable on the couch, hmm? I'll order us some food and then we can just enjoy a chill evening together, how's that sound," she said, her gaze still holding yours. You nodded, burying your face in the crook of her neck. "Perfect," you mumbled, earning an appreciative chuckle from your blonde lover who was rubbing her hands up and down your back affectionately.
A couple moments later you made your way downstairs, now dressed in a pair of fuzzy sweatpants and one of Leah's old Arsenal hoodies. You threw some of your softest blankets on the couch and made the both of you a cup of tea, that you were placing on the coffee table by the couch just as Leah came down too, having changed into something more forgiving than what she was wearing before.
"Mm, you read my mind," she said as she walked over, grabbing her mug from the table and taking a swig of her tea. "Just how I like it, thank you baby," she pressed a sweet, lingering kiss on your lips before pulling away and ordering some food.
"Pizza sound good?", she asked. "Pizza sounds great."
Your night went on quietly, the two of you cuddled up on the couch watching a show you'd discovered together, eating your pizza and stealing kisses from each other now and then.
When the third episode you watched in a row was coming to an end, Leah shifted her body so you were now laying on top of her instead of between her legs. She looked you in the eye and pushed a strand of hair behind your ears, a soft, loving gaze looking over you. "I love you, baby. So much," she started. "I don't care if we're out eating at a fancy restaurant or ordering pizza and binge watching our show, as long as you're my company, I don't care what we do," she smiled, pressing a soft kiss against the tip of your nose.
"You're the best, Le. Thank you for being so understanding. And thank you for being the best mum our baby boy could've wished for," at this, you could see Leah's eyes growing wet with unshed tears, forever emotionally affected when her son was mentioned. You grabbed her face in both hands and leaned in closer, pressing a firm kiss against her warm lips. She tasted salty, testament of a tear that managed to escape right before you leaned in.
Leah was the one who broke the kiss after a couple moments, you chasing her lips as you couldn't get enough of her. She chuckled before speaking up, "You're amazing. You carried this little human being inside your stomach for 9 months and then gave birth to it, bringing life to our son. I'm so proud of you and I'm way beyond amazed at what you did. You're wonderful, mama," the new nickname caused a tingle in your chest, but it also sent a shot of arousal somewhere deeper, something you didn't expect to happen.
Your breath hitched and you pulled back a little, cheeks flushing slightly red, to which Leah cocked an eyebrow at you. "Oh?", she questioned, a slight smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "That was an interesting reaction," she teased further, placing her hands on your thighs that were on each side of her body, now straddling her.
"Shut up," you said, throwing your head back and looking up at the ceiling. "I'll keep that one in mind," she said before pulling you back down to her, clasping her hands together at the back of your neck and pulling you into a heated kiss. Her lips were firm against yours, her tongue swiping across your bottom lip soon enough to ask for permission. You eagerly granted her that, opening your mouth to which you couldn't hold back a soft moan. Leah's tongue explored your mouth, kissing you with a fervor she hadn't for a while.
Truth be told, Leah and you hadn't really done anything like this since the birth of your son. You and your body were still exhausted from the pregnancy and as much as you wanted to be intimate with her, both the tiredness and the insecurity had held you both back. Leah had been patient, she had been incredible and hadn't pushed for anything. She knew you wanted to take things back up on your own accord and that's why she gave you space. But now, with her toned body beneath you, her hands roaming all over your upper body and her tongue licking into your mouth, you couldn't help but feel the arousal building between your legs.
"Le, please," you whimpered, sounding embarrassingly desperate after only a few minutes of kissing and wandering hands. She pulled away, a frown etched onto her face. "What's wrong, baby, are you okay?", she asked, worry laced into her voice. You grunted. "God, yeah, I'm more than okay. I-," you took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes. "I need you."
Leah's eyes widened slightly at your words, the look of surprise quickly changing into something else, a playful glint now appearing in her eyes. "Yeah? You sure?", she asked, more out of politeness than actual concern, her hands already starting to wander up your chest, inching closer towards your breasts.
Leah had always been more of a boob than bum girl, and safe to say she was devastated to learn throughout your pregnancy that any of her touches in that area caused you to wince due to the sensitivity of them.
You nodded sheepishly, closing your eyes when you felt Leah's hands grazing your boobs. Despite still clothed, you could feel goosebumps starting to form across your back, your body clearly affected by the slightest of touches provided by the woman tucked underneath you.
"Let's go upstairs, you might be a bit more comfortable", Leah said as she pulled her hands away from you. You knew she was only being mindful of you and your body, but truth be told – you couldn't care less now. You needed her and you needed her now.
You grumbled in response, leaning your head down into the juncture between Leah's shoulders and neck, starting to roll your hips against hers. You heard how Leah's breath hitched, fingers digging into your hips at the sensation. "Needy, huh?", she teased, to which you sunk your teeth into her neck, pulling a hiss out of your girlfriend before soothing the sing with a languid lick of your tongue.
"God, I missed you," Leah whimpered. "I missed this and I missed you, I missed the feeling of your body on top of me," she continued, her words clearly affecting you as you could feel the arousal between your legs growing. Before long, Leah sat the two of you up straight before sliding from underneath you, throwing her legs over the edge of the couch and getting up. "I was serious when I told you I wanted to go upstairs, baby," she smirked, holding her hands out for you to take, hoisting you up from the couch and leading the two of you upstairs to your bedroom.
As much as the touches were hungry and fleeting downstairs on the couch, the air had changed now. Leah's actions were slow, deliberate, calculated. Like she had planned this out weeks ago, like she knew exactly what she wanted to do to have you unraveling underneath her touch.
She closed the door behind you and was back onto you within a moment, wrapping her arms around your waist and kissing down the nape of your neck, licking a couple stripes from your upper back up until your ear, softly nipping on your earlobe which caused a low moan to fall from your lips.
You moved your arms behind you, steading yourselves by grabbing Leah's thighs. She continued her ministrations, kissing and licking across all your sensitive spots – she hadn't forgotten anything about how to properly please you. She still knew your body like the back of her hand; knew where to kiss, knew where to lick, knew where to touch.
But just in a second, the vibe hanging between the two of you had flipped completely. Leah manoeuvred the two of you towards the bed, but whilst doing so you caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. It wasn't much, and it certainly wasn't long, but it brought the insecurities back from a couple hours ago that Leah had meticulously been working away.
Whereas you had been leaning into your girlfriend's touches and affection, you were now subtly pulling away, not trying to make it too obvious what was happening. You didn't want to get in your head about this. You wanted to enjoy this moment. You needed this, really. But you couldn't keep the thoughts at bay, and they were consuming your brain. You became too aware of your skin under Leah's fingertips, and you held a hand to her chest just before she could push you down onto the mattress.
Leah thought you needed a break for some air, but when you leaned your head down against her chest, she knew this was more than that. You couldn't see, but you knew a concerned frown would be etched onto your girlfriend's face. You felt bad, too. Downstairs, you had seen how excited she got when you told her you needed her – the twinkle in her eye gave everything away. One of your hands fisted Leah's shirt, desperately trying to ground yourself while your thoughts were running rampant around your head.
"Hey, hey, baby are you okay?", Leah tried, slowly coaxing your head away from her chest and pushing it back to eye-level. "Did I do anything wrong, did I hurt you?", you could hear how her voice was filled with concern, clearly thinking she was the one that caused you to want to take a step back.
"No, Le. It's not you," you took a deep breath. "It's me," you looked her in the eyes and continued speaking. "I'm just so self-conscious of my body and I don't know if I want you to see it like this," you took her hand in yours and played with her fingers. "I know you've seen it before, and you've definitely seen it since pregnancy, but not in this situation. And it's just got me in my head," you finished, the feeling of embarrassment not letting you go just yet.
Leah breathed out a sigh of relief before she moved around you, sitting down on the bed and patting her thighs, signaling you to come sit on her lap. You followed her instructions, sitting sideways on her lap, your arms around her neck. She gave you a second to get comfortable before she spoke. "You're beautiful, baby. I know these may be empty words but I promise you that I mean it. Your body is the living proof of the little boy you brought to life – that's an incredible achievement."
She held your gaze, trying to get through to you. "This, right here," she pointed between you and her. "is more than just based on pure bodily attraction. Yes, I still find you incredibly attractive. If anything, I find you more attractive than I did before your pregnancy, but I'm also just so in love with you. And that's not just based on how you look or how you feel beneath me, that's about you. You as a person, as a friend, as a lover and especially as a mother. I want to make love to you because you're you, not because you have a toned abdomen or because you have a bicep bulge." Leah held your face between her hands and pulled you closer to her, pressing a sweet kiss against your forehead. "Now, if you let me, let me show you just how much I love you, please."
You rested your forehead against her and exhaled deeply, affected by Leah's words. You gathered your thoughts and looked up at her, giving her a slight nod. She smiled. "I'll be gentle, I promise," you reciprocated her smile and leaned back in to her, softly pressing your lips against hers.
A couple moments later Leah shifted the two of you so you were now underneath her instead of on your lap, and brought you up the bed so you were resting comfortably against the pillows. "Good?", she questioned, you bit your lip and nodded. "Yeah, perfect."
Leah positioned her body on top of you, careful not to rest any weight on you. She placed her thighs on either side of your hips, leaning her head down and starting all over again. She pressed kisses against your cheeks, your nose, your neck, your jawline and eventually started moving down your body. Her hands wandered all over your clothed upper body, causing goosebumps to form over your skin.
"Can I take this off, love?", Leah questioned, looking you in the eye as she was playing with the hem of your hoodie. You slightly nodded, but your girlfriend didn't seem satisfied with the lack of response. "I'm gonna need words, baby," she continued, to which you verbally responded yes. "Good girl," she said quietly under her breath, but you caught it and you felt a jolt of arousal course through your body.
She took off your hoodie, revealing your upper body that was only covered by a bra now. "This too?", she asked, to which you seemed a bit more hesitant. "We can leave it on too, I don't mind," she reassured you, but you knew you'd have to get over it anyway. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath. You trusted her. She loved you and you knew that. "No, it's fine. Go ahead, please," you said.
Leah put an arm around your back and helped you up, unclasping your bra with the other hand – she couldn't conceal the smug grin growing on her face as she expertly removed your bra with one hand. "Still got it, huh," she teased, followed by you rolling your eyes and laying back against the pillows. "Shut it, Williamson."
Leah let her gaze fall to your chest, and she took a deep breath. "God, you're beautiful," she said, before leaning in closer. She seemed a little hesitant to connect her lips to your nipple, but any insecurity melted away once you tangled one of your hands into her blonde locks and tugged her against you.
A heady moan fell from your lips when Leah's warm mouth enveloped your nipple, the other one being rolled between her thumb and index finger. Her tongue flicked over the sensitive peak and you felt yourself involuntarily bucking into her. "Fuck, Le, that feels so good. I missed you," Leah hummed against you, the vibrations against your chest sending jolts of pleasure down to your core.
She let your nipple go with a pop and turned her attention to the other one, expertly sucking and flicking the nub until she felt she had adequately teased you. She came back up, lowering her body down on the bed as her head now rested on your stomach. "Can I take your sweats off, baby?", she asked, still mindful of getting consent from you for every thing she did. You appreciated it, but you'd come to a point where you just wanted her to get over with it. "Yes, Le, please," you whimpered. In other situations you would probably be embarrassed at how desperate your voice sounded, but you couldn't care less now.
Leah understood the need in your voice, and took both your sweatpants and underwear off in one swift movement. "So gorgeous," Leah mumbled under her breath. She came back up your body and leaned her head against the inside of your thigh, slowly pushing the other one open with her hand. "Still okay?", she asked. "More than okay, Le. Please, I need you. Really need you," you grumbled.
Leah took the hint and wasted no more time in getting down to it, burying her face into your heat and licking a long stripe from your entrance up until your clit. You let out a loud moan at the sensation, core already sensitive from how long it had been since you had been touched like that. "Fuck, Leah, just like that," you managed to get out, hands covering your eyes as you were overwhelmed by how good it felt.
Leah sucked, licked, kissed expertly, making sure not a single part of your pussy was left untouched. She shuffled between your legs and made place for her arm, two of her fingers now teasing your entrance as she was sucking on the sensitive, swollen bud of nerves sitting proudly at the top of your folds.
You could tell she was teasing you, fingers ever so slightly dipping in but pulling out before you could even properly feel it. You bucked your hips into her, trying to get some friction from her fingers. Leah chuckled and before you could register it, she inserted her fingers into you completely, the two of you moaning at the feeling.
"Oh, fuck," your breath hitched in your throat when Leah pulled back out, before pushing her fingers inside again. "Fuck, baby, that's so good. You feel so good inside of me," you continued, before a particularly good thrust of your fingers caused you to let out another wanton moan.
"You're so tight, love. I can tell it's been a while, you feel so good. I love making you feel good and I love seeing the faces you make while I'm fucking you," Leah had always been more on the vocal side during sex and you absolutely loved it, especially in moments like these where you needed a little more reassurance. Leah kept pumping her fingers in and out of you, not letting up by any means when she heard your moans grow higher in pitch.
"You're gonna make me cum, Le, please don't stop," you said, the ever so familiar sensation growing in your stomach. "Tell me you're beautiful," Leah said. Your eyes flew open and a confused frown etched onto your face, trying to process her words while she was still slamming into you with fervor. "I said, tell me you look beautiful. I'm not letting you cum before you tell me you look beautiful," she continued, sounding very determined.
You threw your head back and grunted, trying your hardest to keep your orgasm at bay – not the easiest of tasks with Leah going back to sucking your clit. "Please, Le," you pleaded, wanting nothing more than to release all the tension that was building up in your body.
Leah hummed against you in disapproval before detaching her mouth from your core. "It's easy, darling. Just tell me you're beautiful."
You grumbled, "fuck, I'm beautiful," you said, hoping she would finally let you cum now.
"Again," Leah said, speeding up her thrusts a bit more while looking you in the eyes. "Tell me again. Look me in my eyes and tell me again."
"I'm beautiful," you said again, tears welling up in your eyes with the intensity of pleasure that was coursing through your veins.
"One more time. Tell me one more time and I'll let you cum," Leah mumbled under her breath, before dipping her head back into your core, nuzzling herself deep, licking up and down your slit as she kept fingering you.
"I'm beautiful," you yelled, before you felt Leah give a tight squeeze against your thigh, signaling you that you were allowed to cum. Within seconds the coil in your belly snapped, overwhelming your body with pure pleasure. Your back arched off the bed, Leah trying to keep you in place to help you ride out your high – her fingers still pumping in and out of you, now with less intensity than before. You let out a long, low moan when you came down from your orgasm, your body falling back against the pillows – spent.
You chuckled and looked down at your girlfriend, who was wearing a smug smile as she leaned her face against your inner thigh. "You're insatiable, Le", you said, before she slowly pulled her fingers out of your core, to which you hissed – a feeling of emptiness overcoming your senses. She made sure you were watching her as she sucked her digits off one by one, swallowing every last drop of cum you had left on her fingers.
You threw your head back and groaned, feeling a new spike of arousal go down to your core as you watched her sensually bob her mouth up and down her fingers. She came back up after a while, letting you catch your breath for a little while longer before she spoke.
"You really are beautiful, baby. And I love you so incredibly much. I'm proud of you. Thank you for allowing me to do this," you opened your eyes and caught her gaze just as she finished speaking. You leant in and pressed a passionate kiss against her lips, pouring every single ounce of love and adoration you had for the woman next to you into the kiss. "Thank you for doing this. I needed it more than I thought I did. Thank you for being patient," you finished.
"Glad I could make you feel good, mama," she quipped back, a teasing glint in her eye at the use of a nickname she knew you liked, a revelation she only discovered a couple hours ago.
Before long, she found yourself on top of you again and you went at it for a second round, and a third. And maybe, after a warm shower together, even a fourth.

"So, tell me, why is it I have to wait for the neighbours boy to tell me that you've got a boyfriend?"
"Mum," Y/N tutted as she chopped the vegetables. "I haven't got a boyfriend, okay?"
Her mother sighed and she could picture her pinching the bridge of her nose out of frustration. "I've seen the clip. I've seen you kissing the man in the white suit."
Daniel, she was talking about Daniel.
"And, was that my grandson behind you? Do you know how heart breaking it is that this is the first time I'm seeing Milo?" Her mother continued.
Y/N rolled her eyes. But she was used to it by now, used to her mother berating her. "You've done this to yourself," she bit back. "You didn't want to support me when I was pregnant with Milo, so you don't have the right to know him." She pulled the phone away from her ear and ended the call.
She took just a moment to gather herself. Conversations with her mother always rattled her, but she couldn't bring herself to remove her mother from her life. Maybe one day she'd give her parents a chance to know Milo, she just wasn't ready for that yet.
"Momma," Milo called as he walked into the kitchen. He climbed into his seat at the table and placed his colouring book in front of him. It was a Formula One themed colouring book and Milo happily tried to colour in the Ferrari.
Y/N placed the vegetables into the pan with the already cooked chicken. "What is it, my little munchkin?" She asked as she sat opposite him.
Milo kicked his legs as he coloured in the number sixteen on the car. "Do you think Mr Ricciardo will take us to another race?" He asked.
Thank God Milo hadn't asked his mother why she had kissed Mr Ricciardo. He hadn't brought it up at all. But he had dragged Y/N away the moment Daniel had pulled away from her. And he had insisting on holding all of her attention on their way home.
She and Daniel hadn't had a moment alone since they returned home two days ago. They'd tried to text, but Y/N immediately went back to work and Daniel was training. Olivia was with her mother, so she didn't even see him when dropping Milo off at daycare.
"I don't know, munchkin," Y/N said as she pulled out her phone. "Would you like him to?" She texted Daniel as she waited for Milo to answer.
"No," he answered, and Y/N looked up.
She frowned at her son. "Why not, Milo? What's up, munchkin?"
Milo muttered something under his breath, something that Y/N couldn't hear. So she asked him to say it again. "I don't want you to date Mr Ricciardo, momma! You won't have time for me if you date him," he muttered under his breath.
Suddenly Y/N stood up. She walked around the stable and stood at Milo's side. "Oh, munchkin," she whispered as she knelt down beside him. She wasn't going to tell him about the text Daniel had just sent her, it would make him far too upset. "If your momma ever starts dating, she's not gonna have less time for you," she said as she pulled him close. "You'll always be my number one guy, even if I date Mr Ricciardo."
"Are you gonna date Mr Ricciardo?" Asked Milo as he swung his legs back and forth.
Y/N let out a sigh. "Mr Ricciardo has asked if I would like to go to dinner with him," she said as she stood up straight. "That means you get a sleepover with Livvy, and her grandparents are gonna look after you," she said and went back sorting dinner. "Are you okay with that, Munchkin?"
He thought about it for a moment. "Yeah, momma. Sleepover with 'Livia!" He cried and went back to colouring.
y/n (milo's hot momma)
tomorrow are you okay if milo stays with olivia and your parents?
daniel riiiiiciaaaardoooo
of course i'll let them know
She plated up dinner and placed on in front of Milo, putting his colouring book and pencils up on the counter. They didn't mention Daniel and Olivia for the rest of the night. As much as Milo said he was okay with it, Y/N still want' sure. So she didn't say anything.
***
She hadn't been out on a date since before Milo was born. Y/N didn't have any date clothes, which is why she went shopping on her lunch break.
There wasn't a lot she could afford, nothing too fancy. She searched through the shops for the entirety of the half an hour she had for a lunch break. It took a few attempts in a few different shops before she found the dress she'd wear out to dinner with Daniel.
It was black and fit to her body. She skirt was short, with a tiny, little slit on the side. Nothing like what anybody would expect to see her in, but she felt beautiful when she tried it on. It was going to be perfect for her date with Daniel.
It stayed in the back of the car while she completed her day at the office. It stayed in the back of the car when she picked Milo up from daycare.
She got Milo ready for his sleepover at the same time that she got ready for her date with Daniel. She showered as Milo packed away his toys.
For the drive over to his house, she was dressed down, wearing just her sweats. The dress only came out of her car when she and Milo walked up to the house. She kept it clutched tightly in her hands as they knocked on the door and waited for Daniel to answer.
"Milo!" He called the moment he opened the door.
"Mr Ricciardo!" Milo cried, attaching himself to his leg.
He offered Y/N a smile as she walked into the house. Immediately Daniel went to get Milo settled with Olivia while she went to the bathroom to get changed.
When she came out of the bathroom Milo was already comfortable with Olivia's grandparents, telling them his favourite facts about his favourite dinosaurs. He already had Rexy out and the beginnings of Jurassic park was playing on the television in the background.
"Munchkin," Y/N called softly from the doorway.
All eyes turned to her. At Daniels stare she felt herself become rather bashful. He muttered a 'wow' under his breath, but she didn't react.
But Milo still ran over to his momma. "Are you sure you're be okay here with Olivia and her grandparents?" She asked softly as she crouched down to his height (while still trying to keep herself dignified.
"Yeah, momma," Milo said. "Go and have fun." He sounded so grown up, she could have cried. She wrapped her arms around him for just a second before letting him run back to Olivia and her grandparents to tell them the rest of the facts he knew.
Daniel strode towards her and offered her his arm. "Shall we?" He asked. Looping her arm through his, she nodded her head, and they left the house.
She hadn't been on a date in so long, she had forgotten what they were like. Or, maybe no date she'd ever been on before was as good as this one.
Daniel was a perfect gentleman for the entire night. He opened doors for her, pulled out her seat for her, let her order whatever she wanted, and insisted on paying.
Dinner was incredible. The food was good, the drinks were good, and Daniel was even better. She tried to argue with him about the payment, but Daniel wouldn't let her. There was no way he was letting Milo's hot momma pay on the first date.
That night she confessed to him what her dreams were. It wasn't something she liked talking about, not since having Milo. It wasn't that she didn't pursue her dreams because of Milo, but she was a single mum who had moved across the country. She didn't have the time or the money for dreaming.
"I hate to say it," she began as they walked back out to the car, hands joined, swinging between them. "But I'm actually enjoying a night off from parenting."
"Don't feel bad," Daniel said as he pulled open the passenger door for her. But Y/N shook her head. Aside from her little comment, it wasn't something she wanted to talk about. If anything, she wanted to get back to Milo.
Daniel shut the door and climbed into the drivers seat. "Come on," he began. "We've got one more stop before we head home."
"We do?"
Daniel couldn't help the grin that crossed his face. He started the car and began driving, heading away from the restaurant. The further they drove the less busy the roads got. The city lights soon faded but Daniel kept driving.
It was only when they were in the middle of nowhere that he stopped. Out here they could see the stars. "Wow," she whispered as she opened the car door and stepped out. Her outfit wasn't really suited for the cool night air, and she wrapped her arms around herself as she leaned against the hood of the car.
"Have I told you that you look really good?" Daniel asked as he sat beside her. He placed his arms around her shoulders and pulled her into his side.
She couldn't stop her giggle as she allowed herself to rest against him. "Yes, Daniel. Several times." She looked up at the stars with her head on his shoulder. "Thank you, Daniel. You also look great."
He was in a simple pair of jeans and white shirt. But damn did it suit him.
She couldn't stop herself from grabbing his hand and tracing her fingertips over his tattoos. "Tonight has been amazing. I don't think I've been on a date since I was maybe seventeen," she confessed.
"We're gonna have to make up for lost time," he said, leaning his face closer to hers.
He was addicting, and she couldn't help but find herself drawn to him. Drawn in close enough to kiss him. His hand was cupping her cheek, fingers pushing stray hairs behind her ear.
Just like kissing Daniel the first time, it was amazing. He quite literally took her breath away. But neither of them wanted to pull away, not until they were desperate. Even then, Daniel still rested his forehead against hers. "Be mine," he whispered, his lips almost touching hers again.
She couldn't stop herself from stealing another kiss. "Not until I take you on a date, Mr Ricciardo," she said smugly.
Mr Ricciardo. He liked the sound of that.

AU soulmates: with the same theme because if
Tumblr media
Since time immemorial, mankind has known an inexplicable phenomenon: soulmates. Those destined to meet each other have the first words they will share with their other half inscribed on their bodies. The phrase varies from person to person, often leaving more questions than answers, and many spend a lifetime waiting to hear those exact words spoken by their soulmate.
For Damian Wayne, heir to the Wayne dynasty and apprentice under the shadowy mantle of Batman, the words inscribed on his right arm were both a mystery and a source of constant irritation:
*"I don't give a shit that you're Robin and that you came out of the sewer, but this is a public road and therefore, get out of here. You're in the way!"*
For as long as he could remember, those words were there, etched in elegant black cursive. He often wondered how anyone could say something so disrespectful to him. He, Damian Wayne, grandson of the infamous Ra's al Ghul, a prodigy trained in combat and strategy since childhood, getting in the way? The mere concept filled him with an indignation that his mother, Talia al Ghul, often found amusing.
Damian had tried to ignore the inscription. During his years of training with the League of Shadows, soulmate tattoos were considered a distraction, something irrelevant to a warrior. But ever since he joined his father, Bruce Wayne, in Gotham, he couldn't help but notice how other people around him spoke excitedly of finding their soulmates. Dick Grayson, his adopted brother and former Robin, had even told him with a goofy grin the story of how he'd recognized his mate thanks to a phrase inscribed on his collarbone.
Damian didn't see the romance in his situation, though. How could someone who insults him be his soulmate? If one thing was clear, it was that his soulmate would be just as irritating as the words implied.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
It was a night like any other in Gotham. Damian, now 15, was patrolling as Robin. He had perfected his combat style and had earned the respect of his father and Batman's allies. However, patrolling always came with its drawbacks, especially when nosy citizens interrupted his mission.
Reader, a young high school student with a character as strong as her will, was heading home after a long day at the library. She carried her backpack on her shoulder and a coffee in her hand, trying not to think about the exams that awaited her. She had no time for distractions and no patience for trouble. As she turned the corner of a lonely street, she came upon a peculiar scene: a boy dressed in a strange suit, standing in the middle of the sidewalk, blocking the way.
Unaware that she was about to change the course of their lives, Reader blurted out the words that had been inscribed on Damian's arm for her entire life.
“I don’t give a shit that you’re Robin and that you came out of the sewer, but this is a public road, so get out of here. You’re in the way!” he snapped, with a mix of exasperation and frustration.
Damian turned around with a withering look. His green eyes locked on the young woman who was staring at him with her arms crossed, completely oblivious to the importance of what he had just said. For a few seconds, the world seemed to stop. Damian, who rarely showed any emotion other than indifference or anger, was speechless.
“What’s wrong with you? Didn’t you hear?” Reader continued, taking a step towards him with all the confidence of someone who has no idea who he’s talking to.
It was then that Damian remembered the words on his arm. Everything fell into place suddenly, like pieces of a puzzle that had refused to come together for years. His heart, for the first time in a long time, raced.
“It can’t be…” he murmured, almost in a whisper, staring at Reader.
“What can’t be?” she asked, confused but still defiant.
Damian didn’t answer right away. His mind was racing. How could this ordinary girl, with her messy hair and irreverent attitude, be his soulmate? Everything he knew, everything he had planned, suddenly felt irrelevant.
Although the first meeting wasn't exactly romantic, something changed in Damian from that moment on. Reader, for her part, didn't understand why Robin, Batman's famous sidekick, seemed so intent on finding out more about her. What had started as a casual street meeting soon turned into something more. Damian found himself looking for excuses to see her again, intrigued by her brutal honesty and the way she treated him like a normal person and not the prodigy he was.
Reader, in turn, found herself drawn into the chaotic world of Gotham and its vigilantes. At first, she found him irritating, but over time she began to see beyond Damian's serious facade. She discovered a boy who, despite his arrogance, was surprisingly vulnerable and who, like her, was just looking for his place in the world.

Contract Negotiations
Lucanis X Rook || 2.8k words
Summary: Rook receives a surprising gift from Caterina Dellamorte. And an even more surprising confession from Lucanis.
on ao3 too
It had taken a measure of convincing- and bribery to stop for coffee- to get the First Talon to agree to play tour guide at his family estate. But since their mad dash through the sprawling Dellamorte home to save Caterina Dellamorte, Rook had been insatiably curious about the place Lucanis grew up in.
Lucanis waves his hand at doorways lining the expansive hall. “We take formal meals in the grand dining room. More intimate affairs in the family dining room.”
“There are multiple rooms to eat in?” Rook interrupts incredulously. Her life as a Shadow Dragon has never seen such splendor. She'd possessed a shallow understanding of the family wealth attached to the Crow, but she'd been woefully unprepared to step into this glittering world. It brought up uncomfortable memories of the ragged traveling cloak she'd been wearing the first time she ever met Lucanis. If this was the opulence of the famed assassins, could there be a place for a threadbare, lonely shadow?
Rook isn't accustomed to questioning her place, her worth. And she hardly expects judgments from Lucanis. But what about his family? What about his grandmother? Caterina might be grateful for Rook's part in stopping her other grandson's schemes, but would she be as appeasing if Rook wanted a place at the new First Talon's side.
That opened another matter entirely. In her heart, she knew Lucanis cared for her but it was always in a frustratingly restrained way. Did he hold back because of the demon trapped inside of him? Or because, in the end, it would be a Crow to take their place beside him?
“What is on your mind?” Lucanis asks, eyes fixed intently on her.
She pastes a carefree smile on her face. “Just taking it all in.” She spins in a slow circle, her arms held wide.
“And?” The faintest hint of apprehension tightens the line of his mouth.
“You're rich!” She replies simply with a grin.
“Indeed, we are, child.” A voice dipped in all the regality age affords replies.
Rook turns, lightning quick, hand inching reflexively to the hilt of her sword. There, in a doorway, stands Caterina Dellamorte. “A word?” The woman asks, directing her question to Rook. Rook looks at Lucanis in alarm, but he's frowning at his grandmother.
“I don't know-” He begins, but Caterina cuts him off with a raised hand.
She beckons to Rook to follow her into the sitting room she'd emerged from. “Come. You wait here.” The last bit is said to Lucanis before she disappears inside.
Rook shrugs at Lucanis as she passes him to follow Caterina. What is she to do, refuse to speak with the woman in her own home? Rook isn't even sure why she's feeling so nervous. This is hardly her first conversation with the Dellamorte matriarch. She'd certainly registered Caterina’s intimidating demeanor before, but Rook could be intimidating too. As Caterina gestured for her to shut the door and settle into the armchair across from her, Rook couldn't help the anxiety zipping across her skin saying this conversation was different.
Caterina watches her with the discernable, intelligent eyes of a crow. Rook does her best not to squirm in her seat at the scrutiny, unsure if she is supposed to speak first or wait.
“I wanted to personally and privately thank you, Rook.”
“Oh,” Rook says lamely, taken aback. “I'm glad I was able to help. I'm so sorry for what happened with Illario’s betrayal. I can't imagine how that must hurt.”
A subtle twitch of Caterina’s lip, suggestive of a smile. “Yes, my grandson drove a blade deep with his actions. But,” she tilts her head thoughtfully at Rook. “That's not the grandson to which I referred.”
“Oh,” Rook says again, because apparently that's the only response she is now capable of. “Yes, of course. We had a contract. I break Lucanis free of the Ossuary and he provides his services in the hunt for the gods. I'm happy to provide our allies with support wherever I can.”
Caterina nods slowly. “We benefit greatly from your aid.” Another pause, “But that is not the thanks to which I referred.”
Rook doesn't know what to say and refuses to offer another lackluster “oh,” so she waits for Caterina to elaborate.
“Learning that Lucanis had been forced to house a demon within him while in that prison was,” Caterina stares into the crackling fireplace. “A difficult poison to swallow.”
“He's still Lucanis,” Rook interjects, defensively. Her hackles rising at any implication that Lucanis might be a monster, whether it came from his own grandmother or not.
“No, he is not.” Caterina doesn't sound sad or angry. “However, I think that has less to do with the demon and-” She finally looks back at Rook. “Entirely to do with you.”
Rook's cheeks warm with a blush she doesn't entirely understand. Perhaps it's because of the unmistakable smile curving Caterina's lips, like she knows a secret that would make most excellent tavern gossip.
“You have never treated my grandson as an abomination. Where I have failed him, you have not.”
“I know I didn't know Lucanis before,” Rook says carefully. “And I know things get…complicated when demons get involved. But I know Lucanis now,” her voice takes on a steely edge. “And he is more than Spite. He is loyal and kind where it matters. He is passionate and steadfast, even when he's arguing with you about the best way to make coffee. He's brave, but not a bully. He kills people for a living, but he is not cruel.” Rook's cheeks blaze as she remembers herself. “He's a good man. Demon or no.”
Caterina just keeps smiling that quiet, assuming smile. “You see my grandson for who he is. Including who he is now that Spite is there. Something I almost did not do. For that, I thank you.” Caterina bows her head towards Rook. Then she twists in her seat, picking up a long black box off the table beside her. She extends it to Rook. “I have a gift for you.”
Rook takes it, setting it on her lap and lifting the lid. Her breath puffs out when she sees the most beautiful dagger nestled upon black velvet. “It's stunning.” She runs a finger down the flat side of the obsidian blade, marveling at the intricate, unmistakable crow feathers carved into the metal. The hilt, a gleaming silver. The cross guard, fashioned into spreading dragon wings. Rook’s blood warms as she realizes with a jolt that she's seen this dagger before, minus the dragon wings. She glances up quickly at Caterina.
“I had it crafted to compliment Lucanis’. They will make a fine pair.”
Rook's heart jumps into her throat. “A pair?”
“The contract would require it.” Caterina says vexingly.
“What contract-” Rook begins to question but Caterina turns back to the fire, waving Rook off in clear dismissal.
“If you'll excuse me, I must return to my musings.”
Rook knows better than to press. She closes the lid over her new, confounding dagger and rises from her seat. Opening the sitting room door, she is met with Lucanis pacing back and forth in the hall.
“What did she want?” Lucanis eyes the box in her hands warily.
“To thank me,” Rook responds, dazedly. “She gave me a knife.”
Something flickers through Lucanis’ eyes, then he's grabbing her hand, pulling her into another massive hallway. She fumbles to maintain a one-handed grip on the box, but says nothing. Lucanis’ urgency setting her on edge. Perhaps the dagger from Caterina was poisoned. Perhaps, even now, Crows were on their way to fulfill a contract for her life. Lucanis leads them up stone steps, emptying onto a balconied floor. He pulls her into one of the alcoves. A cozy space, two plush chairs and a low table. A stone-railed balcony looks down onto the hall below.
“Show it to me,” Lucanis demands.
Rook obliges, dropping the box on the table and removing the lid.
He rubs a hand over his jaw, shakes his head. “Mierda, that woman,” he mutters.
“What is it?”
“What did she say to you when she gave you this?”
“Um,” Rook hesitates, embarrassment weighing down her tongue. “She said she crafted it to match yours. A pair. She said the contract would require it. But I have no idea what she's talking about. I haven't taken on another Crow deal.”
Lucanis stands stone still. “What was she thanking you for?”
“You're being weird! Why are you being weird? What is going on?” Rook's frustration mounts at feeling like she's missing a vital piece of the last two conversations she's had.
Lucanis traces a finger over the dragon wing hilt. “It's an old Crow tradition. The exchanging of paired daggers when you are to be joined in contract.”
“Oh, well that clears it all up then,” Rook says sarcastically. “I still have no idea what contract she expects me to partner up on.”
Lucanis' eyes lock with hers, she detects the briefest glint of purple. Spite lingering out of sight. “Marriage.” Lucanis’ voice dips low and gruff over the word.
Rook's lips part, opening and closing like a fish out of water. She knows her pupils must be blown wide in shock. “But you- We aren't- I'm-” She staggers to the balcony edge, leaning back against the stone for support. “Maker’s breath, did your grandmother just give me a betrothal gift!?”
Lucanis steps in front of her. “I didn't know she was going to do that. I'm sorry.”
Her heart drops at the apology. Caterina didn't talk to Lucanis about this. This wasn't even something Lucanis wanted.
“It's okay. I just, never thought I'd learn about my own betrothal before actually being asked.” She laughs weakly, desperate to bring levity to perhaps the most humiliating moment of her life.
“I wouldn't do that to you.”
“Do what?” She frowns at the seriousness of Lucanis' tone.
“Ask you for that kind of contract.”
“Oh, right. Well would you like to go ahead and just toss me over the balcony while we're at it?” Lucanis’ confused look spurs her on. “What have we been doing then? I'm not asking for a lifelong commitment but this,” she waves a hand between them. “I thought it meant something.” A biting laugh, chewed off and spit out. “But Maker, you look positively morose at the idea of being stuck with me.”
Lucanis steps further into her space. “Is that what you think? That you are a mere dalliance I could easily move on from when all of this is over?” There's more challenge in his tone than she's ever heard from him.
“What am I supposed to think, Lucanis? You keep me at arm's length. And I don’t need anything from you that you’re not able or ready to give, just you is enough. But I can’t stand here and pretend like that horrified look on your face doesn’t hurt.”
He turns away then and she resigns herself to the heartbreak. But he doesn't leave. He picks up the dagger. “It is customary when one partner is not a Crow, for the partner's House to prepare the paired dagger for them. It marks their acceptance as an honorary Crow.” He holds it up between them. “I did not ask for this to be made. That does not mean that I don't long for it to exist.”
Rook's blood is humming in her ears. “It does exist.” She says quietly.
“To be with me, I thought it would be selfish to ask. Because it's not just me. It will never be just me. Spite is here too.”
Rook nods. “I know. And it doesn't bother me. It doesn't change how I feel about you.”
Wordlessly, Lucanis unclasps the dagger strapped in the sheath on Rook's chest. He pulls it out, letting it drop into the empty box. Gently, reverently he slides the new dagger into place.
“When this is over, when we've survived the gods, I will ask you if you still wish to wear this.” His hand stays tracing the hilt, fingers fluttering above her heart. “Is that an acceptable amendment to you?”
“It's a contract,” she whispers breathlessly.
Hands grip under her thighs as Lucanis lifts her onto the balcony edge. She glances over her shoulder at the long fall to the polished floors below, at the Dellamorte estate drenched in splendor. Her hands loop around his neck.
“You wouldn't drop me, now would you? I was only joking about tossing me over.”
He keeps one hand wrapped around the curve of her thigh. The other one slides at a wickedly slow pace up the slope of her body. Her outline traced with his palm.
He looks at her, eyes dark. “You'd be fine even if I did. A crow knows how to fly, after all.” He inclines his head towards the dagger now strapped to her chest.
“Mmm, I don't know, I only just got those wings.” She exhales as he drags the tip of his nose up her neck.
“You’re a fast learner. And dragons can fly too.” He nips at her jaw. “But no, I would not drop you.” His hand works into the hair at the base of her neck, drawing her head back as he holds her gaze. “You are the one thing I could not bear to let go.”
He kisses her. It is a fierce, devouring thing. What Lucanis struggles to put into words, he says with twining tongues and clacking teeth. His hand drags down her neck, across her collarbone, over the swell of her breast. His fingers part her jacket, tug at the hem of her shirt, knuckles just grazing the flesh of her stomach. when he grunts sharply and pulls away. He wears the look Rook has come to learn means he's having an internal conversation with Spite.
“Spite? What does he want?” Her skin still scorches where Lucanis’ fingers trailed down her.
Lucanis clenches his jaw. “You.”
“He wants to talk to me?”
A shake of Lucanis’ head. “No. He wants you. Like I want you.”
“He wants…like…oh,” understanding washes over her. “Does that bother you?” She asks Lucanis attentively.
“No,” he replies fast and quick. “But this is what I meant. Our emotions, they are…entangled.”
“And? If it doesn't bother you…” She trails off.
“It doesn't. I know Spite would protect you with his– our– life. In this we are aligned. We will kill whatever gods we must to keep you safe. Spite will not hurt you. We have a new understanding between us. But,” his brows furrow. “Does it not bother you?”
“No. Why should it? I know who and what you are, Lucanis.”
“Because,” his voice is black silk slipping over her. “When I want you, a demon wants you.” He brushes a strand of hair behind her ear. “When I touch you, a demon touches you.” His finger glides from her ear, down her jaw, over her bottom lip. “When I kiss you…”
“A demon kisses me,” she says, breath shallow. Heat pools in her stomach as the implications of Lucanis’ words sink under her skin, alight her blood.
“You have a right to understand what you are agreeing to let into your life…into your bed.”
She quirks an eyebrow at him. “You think we'll make it all the way to my bed? You're rather optimistic about my level of restraint.” Still perched atop the balcony she wraps her legs around him, pulling him closer. “If you and Spite are aligned, well, then, I’d say the three of us have an understanding as well. You have nothing to protect me from, Lucanis. I have never been afraid of Spite. And no demon can keep me from you.” She flashes him an impish smirk. “Especially one who has your good example to learn from. Isn’t that right, Spite?”
Lucanis’ eyes pulse purple, a demon agreeing to a bargain, then his lips crash hungrily into hers again. A blur of movement and she opens her eyes to find Lucanis', no- Spite’s, wings cocooning around her.
Rook knew the acidic way Lucanis’ words could bend. Lucanis himself had spoken on how Spite’s feelings filtered through his own. She had not, however, considered that the same could be happening in reverse. But these wings wrapped around her…as if the demon was in agreement that she would never fall on either of their watches. It sends a thrill through her. Had Lucanis done that? Had his feelings for her shifted the very nature of Spite?
As Lucanis presses her closer and Spite wraps his wings tighter, Rook thinks that– just as Lucanis is set on killing any god he needs to– she’d be willing to make a deal with any devil she must, if it meant she got to keep the Demon of Vyrantium and his Spite.

When Fire Meets Fate

Part 14
Request: Yes or No
Summary: After a failed assassination attempt, (Y/N)'s thoughts become filled with reminders of his family on the opposing side.
CW/TW: Typical Got/HOTD warnings, violence, Ser Erryk's death, not-so-subtle period typical sexism, Ser Alfred and Lord Celtigar are their own warnings at this point
someone get this man a ticket to the summer isles asap
~~~
His hobbies became less enjoyable with each passing day. His eyes skimmed the words on the page, reading them, but his mind could not process them due to the turmoil within. The days of devouring books, reading hundreds or more pages were gone, halted by the war seeping through the cracks of barely contained peace.
(Y/N) thought of his niece's son, and couldn't help but wonder what his sister thought of it all. Did she despise them, despise him? Did she believe them free of guilt or had her futile hope died when the sword sliced through her grandson's throat?
He squeezed his eyes shut at the image, unable to think of the child without thinking of his own toddlers. With the death of Jaehaerys still fresh, everyone remained on high alert for a counterattack or another enemy taking advantage of the unsteady Realm by sowing more mayhem. Many'd chosen to remain neutral, some such as House Tyrell and House Greyjoy, but neither house seemed like the type to send assassins to kill children in their beds. Lord Tyrell was a mere boy whose mother ruled as regent and the Red Kraken faced his enemies head-on.
A quiet sigh brought his attention to Elinda as the handmaiden followed Rhaenyra to finish braiding her hair, only for his wife to walk forward again, too lost in her mind to give Elinda enough time. (Y/N) closed his book and set it aside, a trickle of amusement pouring in when he took in Elinda's twisted lips. Rhaenyra stared toward the window, her hands tightly clutched and her brows fixed into a near-permanent furrow. Worry had never been a good look on her.
"Nyra," He spoke, snapping her out of her distant trance. "Allow Elinda to finish working."
"Ah," Rhaenyra glanced over her shoulder at the brunette before snapping her head forward sheepishly, the skin along her cheeks gaining a soft pink color. Elinda, in all her patience, simply smiled and resumed working swiftly, her fingers moving automatically from the countless times she'd helped do Rhaenyra's hair. "My apologies."
"It is quite alright, Your Grace. Please try and lay down; it has been a weary day." Elinda spoke softly, finally finishing the long braid and resting it along Rhaenyra's back.
With a sigh of agreement, (Y/N) twisted around to tug down the pillows resting against the wooden headboard before he leaned back into them and sunk into their soft cushion. Rhaenyra joined him soon after, tucking her legs beside his underneath the covers and fluffing up the pillows with the heel of her palms. Elinda watched them solemnly as she placed empty teacups onto a tray and approached the bed with a sympathetic frown.
"You must sleep tonight," She told them gently, "Let me ask the maester for some draught."
Rhaenyra exhaled heavily through her nose, her body naturally curling into his side once she placed her head on his chest. "Perhaps that would be best." She murmured and draped her arm across his stomach. His fingers crept up her back until his palm settled on the curve of her hip. "Thank you, Elinda."
"Of course."
Elinda crossed the room to continue tidying up, but her work was cut short when the door opened and a familiar man stepped inside. Immediately, the couple sat up in their bed with near-bated breath at whatever news he could possibly be bringing them at such an hour. Even Elinda straightened up, the calm of her features disappearing into worry.
When the knight remained quiet as he stepped further into the room, Rhaenyra's brows furrowed. "Ser Erryk?"
The sound of a sword unsheathing echoed coldly through the room and dread settled uncomfortably in (Y/N)'s stomach. "Believe me," he spoke through gritted teeth, "I had no choice."
"Brother!" An angered shout followed the door being thrust open by a copy of the man already standing in their bedchambers. Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk, (Y/N) quickly realized, but who was who? (Y/N)'s arm shot out in front of Rhaenyra, his body scooting forward whilst his arm pushed her behind him. Her quickened breath filled his ears and her nails dug through the thin fabric of his sleeve as she clutched at his arm. "Do not do this. I beg you."
The twin who'd entered their room, Arryk, spoke heatedly but the slight tremble in his hand when he pointed his sword at his brother spoke for his true thoughts. "You are the one who betrayed us, Erryk,"
The two knights continued facing each other, one pushing forward and the other stepping back tentatively, the hesitation in their limbs keeping them separate until Arryk suddenly lunged toward the bed with a cry and his sword raised high. Rhaenyra yelped in surprise, her hands tugging and dragging her husband along with her as she scrambled backward until the two were pressed up along the headboard but thankfully, Erryk sprang into action immediately, blocking the swing of his brother's sword. Elinda dropped the tray onto the nearest table and ducked down behind it, her widened eyes jumping frantically between the couple and the brothers.
"Elinda, go!" Rhaenyra called to the panicked handmaiden, her voice mixing with the frequent clashing of metal against metal. "Run and find Ser Lorent!"
Hurriedly nodding, Elinda scooped fistfuls of her dress into her hands and raced toward the open door where she disappeared into the hallway. The knights took a moment apart, their chests heaving and features concentrated, but (Y/N) caught the flicker of relief on one of their faces when Elinda's footsteps became distant. Ser Erryk.
"Come," He breathed to his wife, reaching around behind him to grasp her arm and pull her as he scrambled toward the edge of the bed where Erryk stood closest. The knight glanced over his shoulder and followed their movements, using his body as a shield when Arryk swung again.
"(Y/N)," Rhaenyra whispered shakily, pressing herself against the stone collum and wincing with each clash of swords.
When Erryk's leg was struck, (Y/N) took her wrist and ran, the clanking of metal that followed them making his throat tighten. Rhaenyra cried out when she tripped on the ends of her nightgown, forcing (Y/N) to stop and duck down toward her as Arryk's body tumbled forward and onto a vase with a shove from Erryk. He wrapped his arms around her swiftly and cradled her whimpering form close to his chest, heavy and quick pants leaving him whilst he watched the brothers swing at each other.
"Your Grace, My Lord!" Ser Lorent appeared, rushing down the steps leading further into their bedchambers and waiting for the knights to move away before he raced forward to them. "With me!" He ordered, one arm behind them to guide them toward the other door and the other arm keeping his sword trained on the two for any sudden movements toward them.
Wiggling on the doorknob, (Y/N) cursed in frustration when it wouldn't turn, the adrenaline flowing through his veins beginning to give way to panic fueled by Rhaenyra's whimpers and watery eyes. The knights had tangled themselves together, concentrating their fight on each other but with their features and injuries, (Y/N) could no longer tell who was who. They only watched hopelessly as one began strangling the other.
"We were born together," One wheezed, voice strained from the hands clamped around his throat. (Y/N)'s hand tightened on the doorknob, finding his eyes unable to tear themselves away from the sight and words spoken. Alicent, Alicent, Alicent. His sister, his twin, the other half of his soul and body. Had she known of this? No.. not even their father would think of such a thing... would he?
"You parted us!" The other wailed through blood and tears, his body trembling from exhaustion and grief. Aching familiarity flooded (Y/N)'s chest and filled his eyes with salty, warm tears. "But I still love you, brother."
The one pinned between the floor and the wall dug his fingers into a cut on the other's leg, prompting a pained cry as he toppled over onto the floor. He dragged himself toward a tossed-aside sword on the floor as the other did similar. They stood up, faced each other, and charged, but instead of the dreaded clanging, (Y/N) heard the horrifying noise of cloth and flesh being torn into.
They held onto each other, stumbling and staggering through sobs.. until the dead weight of one forced the other to finally step back. The remaining twin panted heavily, his tears mixing with sweat and blood whilst he stared at the corpse of his brother.
"Your Grace, My Lord," He exhaled heavily when he faced them on unsteady feet and quivering lips. He turned his sword onto himself, shoulders slumping with exhaustion as soft sniffling left him. "Forgive me."
(Y/N) blinked. "Erryk-"
His words caught in his throat as Erryk collapsed down onto his sword, impaling his midsection and covering the floor with blood. (Y/N) turned Rhaenyra toward him instinctively, wrapping his arms around her and tucking her head into his neck. The late guards that'd stormed the room at the last second stared aghast at the bodies, both men familiar but only one had been loyal to their cause.
His eyes roamed down to the floor, meeting the blank blue eyes of Erryk. Was this how he and his twin would reunite? Forced to look upon the body of the other in the end, with no way of reversing time and doing it right?
(Y/N) squeezed his eyes shut. When had been the last time he'd told Alicent he loved her?
"He is the basest of villains." Jace's voice held barely restrained anger in it, an emotion his son had grown so used to throughout his childhood. Always the storm, the spitfire, the one who lost his temper with mere words or looks. (Y/N) felt exhausted, too tired to deal with a son that reminded him so much of his younger self but when a hint of irritation flared in his belly, he remembered the wide-eyed, teary look on Jace's face upon seeing them alive and without injury before he'd rushed into their arms like a frightened child. "He sullies his brother's grave."
"They formed together in the womb, Jace." (Y/N) muttered, feeling the dirt escape between his fingers and onto the knights below. They said the dead often looked as if they were sleeping, but not even the Silent Sisters could hide the look of death on their faces; olive skin was now ghostly pale, and once pink lips a purplish tint. "They were born together, they died together. They were halves and now they're whole again. Leave them be."
"We cannot fault him for keeping his oath," Rhaenyra added softly, tiredly, mimicking her husband and releasing the dirt clutched in her hands onto the bodies below. Grief had become a numbed feeling, one circling their minds but too muddled with exhaustion and muted anger to take them fully into its clutches once more.
(Y/N) stepped away from the grave, unable to stand the sight of watching dirt slowly cover the twins any longer. He'd hardly slept, and the few moments of sleep had been filled with dreadful nightmares of what would come of him and his family. His uncle would send knights and soldiers out to help King's Landing, many among them being his blood. Gwayne came to mind specifically, his older brother with a level head on his shoulders but an eager desire to please their father.
The smallfolk and soldiers were always the first to die in conflict; it made him wonder if he'd ever see his brother again with eyes full of life.
"Father," Jace caught up with him, his curls bouncing and reminding him of Alicent in her youth when her curls had begun having some definition. He made a face and the tip of his ears turned a light red. "Apologies. My Lord." He corrected himself, eyes darting toward the knights and servants escorting them back to the safety of the castle. He was a little boy no longer but he thought himself too grown.
"What is it, Jace?" (Y/N) turned to him, studying the side of his son's face and being unable to stop himself from picking out the traits that reminded him of his family; a mesh of his mother and siblings' faces stared back at him whenever he gazed at Jace, from the curls of his hair to the slope of his nose.
"Is it not..." Jace trailed off, the tip of his tongue swiping over his lips. "Is it not unjust to bury Ser Erryk alongside the man who attempted to kill him, who attempted to kill you and Her Grace? It's despicable what he did, what he chose to do. And... for Ser Erryk to..."
Exhaling softly, (Y/N) looked forward. "Siblings are siblings but.. it's different with twins, Jace. You are born together, they are the first face you meet.. you are one soul, one heart, almost one body. I remember the pain of losing Corren, one of my older brothers. I can only imagine that very pain would be intensified tenfold if I were to hear of Alicent's passing."
"She is a traitor." Jace scoffed. "She placed the usurper on the throne. She wanted Princess Rhaenys to bend the knee to him. She-"
"Is still my sister." (Y/N) interrupted softly. "Just as Ser Arryk, traitor or not, was still Ser Erryk's brother. You may not understand as your brothers are too young to yet inflict any sort of betrayal... but it's complicated. There may be hate and grief and frustration but the love will linger.. the hope. You'll understand, someday."
Jace frowned at that, jaw tightening. "I'm not a child to be coddled-"
"You will always be a child, Jace, to us." (Y/N) told him, a hint of a dry chuckle following. His gaze drifted toward the woman standing on a balcony, watching them with curious eyes. Their savior; the woman who'd alerted the guards of Ser Arryk's trickery. "You will always be the boy with round cheeks, gentle waves, and a penchant for trouble. Now, head inside and check on your brothers."
His hand grazed Jace's shoulder before he parted from his son, making his way up the cobbled steps where Lady Mysaria waited, her hands intertwined before her and the hint of a smile on her lips. Truthfully, (Y/N) had expected her to depart after giving her warning as some sort of way of evening out the field. They'd kept Daemon's promise and in return, she'd helped them. Yet, there she stood, gazing thoughtfully at him before the echoing shrill of Seasmoke brought their attention out to where the dragon flew. He'd grown restless in recent times, dancing in the sky after his flights and filling the air with his cries.
"They are... curious creatures." Lady Mysaria spoke, seemingly captivated by Seasmoke. He hardly blamed her. He himself saw the dragons in fleeting moments, sometimes even allowing Rhaenyra to convince him to join her on a flight or two with Syrax. For the smallfolk, seeing a dragon close must've been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Seasmoke was a beauty with his pale silver skin but frightening in his bursts of irritation. He loved Laenor as much as a dragon could, (Y/N) knew that much. "Have you ridden one?"
(Y/N) nodded. "Before the youngest arrived, yes. Rhaenyra enjoys taking to the skies and she enjoys sharing her hobbies. I would not say it's a favored pastime of mine." His words drew a quiet laugh from her.
Footsteps filled his ears and he glanced over his shoulder, his arm immediately extending toward his wife to coil around her waist. Rhaenyra gave a quiet sigh and leaned into his side, fingertips brushing away a loose strand of silver hair. She appeared conflicted at first but she wiped the look off her face to address Lady Mysaria with a polite smile, eyes briefly flickering to the dragon in the distance.
"We were told you turned back from your ship to bring warning."
"I was not believed at first." Lady Mysaria stated, her head remaining forward but her eyes flickered toward them, obversing and waiting. The sea breeze ruffled back her raven locks, and she turned to look at them. "What is the life of a queen worth these days?"
"You wish to be rewarded." Rhaenyra mused, withholding a heavy sigh.
A hint of a smile graced Lady Mysaria's lips, playful in a way but not mocking. "As I would think you would wish to reward me." She said, her brows briefly lifting and voice nearly drowned out by another cry from Seasmoke. (Y/N)'s attention darted between the two, trying to focus on the woman before them, the woman he now owed his life to, and the dragon that'd once belonged to his close friend.
"What price would you set?" Rhaenyra questioned, shifting her weight from one foot to the other, her voice tight and guarded, slightly worried. Maybe even paranoid. Now were hardly the times to owe anyone anything, not with war rearing its ugly head and castles being so easily breached. His fingers danced the curve along her side, tips pressing against the rough texture of her dress to ease her nerves. She exhaled through her nose and spared him a glance, but it did little to cease the way she toyed with her fingers.
"A place.. at your court." Lady Mysaria revealed, dark eyes watching them closely.
"You wished to free yourself from the webs of court, and yet now wish to find yourself a place in it?" (Y/N)'s brows dipped inward, perplexed. The castle had been breached by a knight with the sole goal of slaughtering a queen and he'd nearly succeded. Anyone else would've collected their things and raced for the next ship away from the Crownslands, away from the infighting. Lady Mysaria's shoulder lifted with a half-shrug.
"And you let me go. You showed me grace when you could have withheld it. I'm not often surprised." She said gently, a shadow briefly casting over them when Seasmoke flew in front of the sun. "I know the workings of the Red Keep and the movements of those who serve there. That is worth more than gold to you now."
Rhaenyra's lips pursed, eyes squinting when she spared Seasmoke a glance at his call. "What is our worth to you?"
"I would punish the Hightower for what they have done, to me and those who served me. But more than that, I know the struggles of the smallfolk of King's Landing. They will be ruled, either by you or by the usurper. And only one of you has shown yourself to be merciful."
"Well, I hope you do not confuse mercy with pliancy."
Another shriek, one much closer, interrupted the beat of silence that passed over them after Rhaenyra spoke. It almost seemed purposeful, urgent. (Y/N) watched Seasmoke's distant figure twist in the sky and dip downward toward the water, skimming it briefly before rising again. His flying seemed purposeless; no hunting, no playing, seemingly no enjoyment coming from it. Was it the equivalent of pacing? Or an attempt at communication without his rider to decipher it for them? (Y/N) frowned. Could it be...
"Seasmoke, my late lord-husband's dragon. He's grown restless as of late." Rhaenyea turned away from the sight and gave another tight yet polite smile, her hand rising to touch her husband's back briefly, signaling to him their departure. "We can not know why."
"Maybe he's lonely." Lady Mysaria said, and Rhaenyra halted, eyes darting back to her before turning to her husband.
Their departure from the balcony was quiet, with Lady Mysaria staring after them until she resumed her watch of Seasmoke. Rhaenyra stared forward whilst they walked down the hallway, her lips twitching into the beginning of a frown and brows furrowing. They had news for Rhaena but (Y/N)'s mind remained consumed with other things. Dragons and their riders were bonded, united as one in more ways than one; rumors and speculations the bond was emotional, possibly even bound by souls. Syrax had grown restless during Rhaenyra's early labor, shrieking and roaring within the caves she and the others called home. It was enough to prove there was something there, some sort of connection... one that would be severed after death.
His lips brushed over Rhaenyra's temple, his legs leading him in the opposite direction of their bedchambers. He needed more time with his children, now more than ever. His chest constricted with the beginning of grief.
They'd gone years without hearing a word from Laenor or his lover, as they'd agreed upon to avoid rousing suspicion, but Seasmoke's restlessness, his constant shrieks and cries... the chance it was his way of mourning was high. Lives were lost so easily, fragile things capable of breaking at any time and any place. And so far from home.
Rhaenys and Corlys had mourned their children for years and felt the turmoil of not having been there for Laena during her time of need. Lady Jane Arryn would take good care of the children but it hardly shook away the worries.
Could he survive losing another child, let alone one of the youngest? Could Rhaenyra? What would come of Jace if he lost Joffery, Viserys, or Aegon? His eldest son was already brash yet withheld his impulses, but (Y/N) knew the flush of youthful anger and arrogance all too well. It was all-consuming and dangerous.
Council meetings were wearisome. How his father managed to attend each and every one for decades was a mystery to (Y/N), a mystery he thought about as he sat in his seat and listened to the droning of the other lords. In a fleeting desire, he desperately hoped once the waters calmed, he'd be able to do as other consorts did and stay far from the Small Council and its squabbling men.
"Still no sightings," Rhaenys announced as she strode into the room, peeling her gloves off as she approached her seat beside him. It'd been early afternoon when they'd heard of an army leaving the gates of King's Landing, its destination unknown and unclear thus far. "No men, no horses, no ships... no dragons." She gave a quiet sigh, tossing her gloves upon the table and sitting down.
"Good. Then we must seize the hour and act before our enemy does. They have penetrated our castle walls and now the Riverlands are aflame after the Battle at the Burning Mill." Ser Alfred spoke, turning his attention onto Maester Gerardys expectantly. "How fares Prince Daemon with our army?"
Maester Gerardys grimaced. "There has been no word from Prince Daemon, Your Grace."
"Then we must press what advantage we do have."
"And what's that?" Lord Staunton questioned from beside Ser Alfred, eyeing him with a level of uncertainty (Y/N) could not fault him for.
"Dragons." Gods. "Send all of them out. Start turning Green strongholds to our cause and burn those who resist."
"No," Rhaenyra spoke up with a dismissive shake of her head, her fingers tightly wound together and lips slightly pursed. "If dragons begin fighting dragons, we invite our own destruction. Fear of it is in itself a weapon. The Greens will make the same calculation."
Ser Alfred's dry laughter followed, mocking as if he were faced with a child rather than his ruler. "The value of a sword is not within its scabbard."
"We will secure victory with armies, not with dragons alone. The Greens understand that." Rhaenyra swallowed, her jaw tight from Ser Alfred's attitude and chest falling with a deep exhale. "The Vale and the North will send men. We must give Daemon time."
"Your Grace," Lord Gormon Massey spoke next, shifting in his chair and leaning back into it as he looked toward her with a small sniffle. "You have witnessed firsthand just how vulnerable you are. Prince Daemon is abroad, Lord (Y/N) is more skilled with words than with swords, and Aegon's factions are enraged at the death of his son. You have never been so exposed!"
"Perhaps it is time for you to think about secreting yourself somewhere safe while we remain here as a source of distraction for the enemy." Lord Celtigar proposed, and (Y/N) couldn't help the laugh that tumbled free from his lips. The lords turned their attention swiftly onto him, brows furrowed at his amusement but (Y/N) simply arched a brow, eyes flickering between them all.
"You expect Her Grace to turn and cower away whilst you do what exactly? Appoint a regent in her stead? Play pretend as children do so that you may indulge in fantasies? Age has truly emboldened too many of you, made your tongues loose and brains hazy, it seems. You act as if you are speaking to your daughter, your sister, or wife. You speak too freely in the presence of the Queen." (Y/N) inhaled heavily and leaned forward, resting his elbows upon the table and studying them each. His tone remained icy, cold and distant whilst he addressed them to further watch them shift uncomfortably in their seats. "What do you think Her Grace's enemies would do if they caught wind of her.. 'secreting herself somewhere safe'? They would call her a coward, and what House would wish to follow a coward?"
"My Lord, t-that is not what-"
"And what would you do, Ser Alfred, if we were to send all our dragons away to fight and left Dragonstone vulnerable? The riderless dragons may be prompted to attack, sure, but without riders, they have no loyalty. Dragonstone's inhabitants would be left to face the same fate as Harren the Black or the Harroways of Harrenhal." (Y/N) raised his brows at the man, turning away when he parted his mouth to speak and leaving him to clamp it shut.
"You sit here and act like children who've been gifted their very first sword whilst simultaneously disregarding the very reason we have dragons at our disposal. The rulers of the Targaryen Dynasty may have been men thus far but we have seen women rule before, or have you all forgotten of Dorne? It was Princess Meria Martell who led her people against the conquest and won. Perhaps, instead of opening your mouths, you should open a history book."
(Y/N) scoffed softly and stood from his seat, prompting the rest of the men to stand as well with their heads bowed. "Oh, and Lord Massey," (Y/N) watched the man swallow before he lifted his head to look at him. "Nearly all of my brothers are knights. I was taught how to fight in my youth. That I choose words is not a flaw, for someone else may have chosen to cut your tongue if they felt slighted." He turned away, moving to stand beside Rhaenyra as she too rose from her seat.
Coiling her arm around his, Rhaenyra gave him a fleeting smile before looking over her council. "Let us not speak or entertain such an idea again. It'd be inconvenient amid a war to have to charge someone for treason, wouldn't it? If there is nothing else of value to inform us of, we shall take our leave."
What about male reader being Alfred's nephew who came to live with him because his parents died or were just unfit parents? Alfred isn't all too happy that he's here, but not because he hates him, no, but because Gotham isn't the safest place and the fact that he's bow living with the vigilante family isn't the greatest fact. I feel like Alfred would be very overprotective of his nephew, and just the family's reaction to Alfred's nephew, i feel like the family didn't really ask Alfred about his family and such .
Oh yeah, some Alfred for the soul. That man needs more love. Also, this will be under Batfamily since I'm too lazy to put a new masterlist for Alfred.
Summary: Alfred's nephew comes to live with Bruce and the rest of the fam.
Warnings: child abuse, mentions, mentions of what happened, everyone trying to make sure that (Y/N) is comfortable, Alfred being protective.
Tumblr media
Alfred left the UK and London behind a long time ago. He had his training and career as a soldier and then as a spy. Soon enough, his path led him to the USA, where he got a job as a butler for the Wayne family, even before Bruce was even in the picture. It wasn't really easy to leave his life behind, but Alfred knew it was for the better.
He needed a new beginning after everything he has witness over the years. Especially since his sister cut contact with him. Alfred, while said, he knew he couldn't change her mind in the slightest. But that didn't matter today. What mattered was his new family and his four grandsons and son.
Yes, he did consider Bruce to be his son. After all, he did raise him from when he was 7. And as his four grandsons came along, he was happy.
As far as his old family? Around 13 years ago, his sister had a baby. A boy named (Y/N). Yes, Alfred kept some tabs on his family, just to make sure that everything was like okay back there. Years went by and when (Y/N) was 13, Alfred got a call.
It wasn't a pleasant one.
Alfred sighed as he ended the call, rubbing his temples, muttering a lot of unpleasant things underneath his breath. His nephew (Y/N) was taken out of his sister's custody because she was abusive in every since of the word. And in every shape too.
Starving, beatings... Neglect...
Alfred was really mortified and he could barley speak as he remembered the conversation... He sighed and quickly made his way down to the kitchen opening up the cabinet where he held the strongest drinks in the manor. He poured himself a glass of scotch, since it was the first thing he could see.
I downed the scotch in one sip before pouring himself another one. He sighed yet again, leaning on the kitchen counter, trying not to snap.
" Something happened? " Bruce asked from behind him and Alfred sighed for the third time.
" Well master Bruce... Something did happen. " Alfred said, taking the glass and turning around to face Bruce. Alfred knew that (Y/N) had to come live here... But this family is full of vigilantes... But this is also a safe space too.
" What happened Alfred? " Bruce asked, worried for the man. Alfred is often composed and sarcastic, but now, he was shaken and just... Sad?
" My nephew is in the custody of CPS, well, at least the British version. " Alfred started and Bruce crossed his arms as he leaned on the doorway.
" I didn't know you had a nephew... " Bruce admitted softly and Alfred chuckled, sipping his scotch slowly.
" Yeah... My sister cut contact with me a long time ago master Bruce... " Alfred acknowledged and Bruce nodded, not knowing what to say.
" Either way... I'm the only family he has master Bruce, which means he will have to come here. " Alfred whispered, downing his scotch again.
" That's not a problem Alfred. I'll make space for (Y/N), clear out one room for him and talk to the boys. " Bruce responded and Alfred shook his head, making Bruce frown and tilt his head in confusion.
" That's something I know you would do master Bruce. " Alfred explained and poured himself more scotch. " It's... You are Batman and the danger that comes with that name... I can't bring my nephew into more danger. " Alfred finished explaining and downed the scotch once more.
" It will be different. We will be honest with him. " Bruce said and Alfred did have to agree, they had to be honest with him.
" He will flying here tomorrow master Bruce, so we will need to pick him up. But before hand, we need to talk to the boys. And it will need to be serious. "
" Of course it will be serious Alfred. (Y/N) will feel safe here. And if any boys are out of line, send them to me Alfred. I'll call them down now so we can talk about this. " Bruce said before he went upstairs.
Alfred just finished a bottle in the meantime.
Bruce sat his sons down, telling them that this is very serious.
" Now, listen to Alfred intently. He is officially a lead on this. " Bruce said and sat down. The four boys looked at Alfred, who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here.
" Well... My nephew is coming here to live with us. His parents, my sister and her husband were abusive to him... Physically, verbally... They starved him too... Either way, he is in a bad mental place. Which means that you four better be on your best behavior. No fights in front of him, both verbal and physical. Don't force him to talk about it and try to befriend him. " Alfred finished, looking at his grandsons with a pointed look.
" Is that all you had to say? " Dick asked and Alfred nodded.
" You have a nephew?! " Jason exclaimed and Alfred nodded.
" Okay, that... I thought you had no family. " Tim said and Alfred sighed and Bruce smiled sadly.
" I thought you were an agent for the MI6 and had no family... Like killed off. " Damian said and Alfred sighed yet again.
" Okay boys, that's enough commentary. " Bruce said and they all grumbled. " It's important that (Y/N) feels safe here. And Alfred has my full permission to put you all back in line. "
" As if he ever needed permission. " Jason mumbled quietly and Dick smacked the back of his head.
" Thank you master Dick. "
" Everyone, this is (Y/N). " Alfred said, introducing his nephew to his grandsons. " (Y/N), these are the infamous Wayne kids. I don't think anymore introduction is needed. " Alfred said, glancing at his shy nephew.
" Now (Y/N), let me lead you to your room. " Alfred said and gently lead (Y/N) to his room. It was one of the bigger ones, with a lot of room and a comfortable bed.
" Now (Y/N), are you hungry? Because it's lunchtime in America at the moment. " Alfred said as (Y/N) put a small suitcase on the bed.
" I could eat something. " (Y/N) said and Alfred nodded, smiling at the fact that (Y/N) would eat something.
" I was thinking about some burgers actually. I can make a good one, with my awesome recipe. Do you want to come down or do you want to stay in your room? " Alfred asked softly.
" I would like to go down... This is a nice place... " (Y/N) said, still nervous.
" I agree it is nice, now come on mate, lets go down. " Alfred said and let (Y/N) go down. Alfred gently led him down to the kitchen and (Y/N) sat down, the boys all around him, keeping some distance, trying to not make him feel overwhelmed.
" So... Is it true that the Queen is a lizard? " Jason asked out of the blue and (Y/N) rolled his eyes at that, but with a smile.
" She passed away. " (Y/N) said and Jason raised his brow.
" No. "
" Yes. "
Jason scoffed with a smile and Alfred listened as he started making the meat mixture for the patties.
" Is it true that people from London speak the best English? " Dick asked and (Y/N) rolled his eyes.
" It's not true. It's so far from the truth... " (Y/N) said and Dick chuckled.
" Well, the royals are there and they must be educated... So how come? " Dick joked and (Y/N) shrugged his shoulders.
" Is it true that gun control is tighter? " Jason asked curiously and (Y/N) nodded.
" Damn... Well, welcome to the land of freedom. " Jason joked and (Y/N) smiled, but it was tiny. Tiny as hell.
" If you hear a bald eagle screeching it means you have reached the peak of staying here. " Tim stated and (Y/N) rolled his eyes a bit.
(Y/N) turned his head when he saw Titus, the Great Dane walking in with his head high and tail wagging at the sight of a newcomer. Damian was ready to intervene if necessary, but Titus was calm with people.
Damian watched as Titus sniffed (Y/N)'s hands, licking them softly and then (Y/N) hesitantly petting him.
" What's his name? " (Y/N) asked, not sure who to ask directly.
" His name is Titus. " Damian answered as he kept watching, tilting his head in wonder.
" Is he yours? " (Y/N) asked as he scratched Titus' ears.
" Yes he is. " Damian answered and (Y/N) moved down his hand to Titus' cheek. " He is huge... " (Y/N) mumbled as he kept patting Titus, who was wagging his tail.
" He is a Great Dane so he is big. " Damian explained and (Y/N) stopped petting him, making Titus whine.
" He is a big baby. " Jason chimed in and Damian nodded.
Alfred put the things he needed aside and checked on (Y/N) and the way he was handling the situation was great. The boys didn't push him, joked about something with him... And (Y/N) was comfortable. That was the most important thing here.
Thankfully, Alfred and Bruce both have experience with sort of traumatized children so (Y/N) will be able to heal properly. And the truth about them being vigilantes... Well, that can wait until (Y/N) is more stable.
DPXDC Prompt: Who is Danny Fenton?
Warning: This one will be dark as it contains character deaths and violence.
Danyal replaced Danny Fenton a long time ago. As in the original died and Danyal needed a place to hide.
He could have killed him or maybe there was an accident. But he's been masquerading as Danny Fenton for a long time.
But imagine Danyal Al Ghul did kill a kid to take his place. Or at least might have put him out of his misery of something tragic that happened.. as if he wasn't stalking homes to try and pretend to be someone's else's child after leaving the league.
Wasn't "his" fault the kid was stupid enough to cross paths and get hurt.
Though guilt does follow him as he pretends and easily slides into the kids life. Reason he "starts" to drift from Jazz, she's the only one that eyeing him too closely and he doesn't like it. Blame it on her being a nag.
Its why he survived the portal incident. He was already contaminated.
All this to avoid having to fight his brother and being kicked around by his grandfather.
Only to have karma bite him in the ass. Not only he failed to come back fully- unlike the pit rage that made you forget yourself- this form seems to make every regret and terrible action dig its claws deeper in every painful way.
Even worse if you play the whole phantom is a ghost combined with Danny.. so phantom is danny fenton.
Now he's lost anything he could have pride in. Thanks to his accident, he's had harder time controlling his body.. especially with his powers. Clumsy. Uneven. He knew he was out of sorts from not practicing but he doubt he be this bad.
His life forever now half of either existence. He couldn't pretend anymore. Once his new parents find out- they would try to kill him.
Back to square fucking one.
And this time. He doubt even his brother or mother would lend a pity hand. Not like he would want it.
AMG just now thought maybe he would go to Gotham after he killed Vlad and was caught by the Fentons.
He warned Vlad and told him he was getting onto his last nerve. Even told him that Jack wasn't his dad and Maddie wasn't his mom, hell he wasn't even Danny Fenton. But if he had to tell him who he was he was going to regret it.
Vlad went even harder losing interest in Danny- only for Danny to make a sword with his powers and show Vlad WHO he was.
He was trying to be like his father- batman. He is the grandson of the demon king- and former member of league of assassins.
Vlad begging when he realizes Danny been holding back and actual death is on the horizon. "I'm Danyal Al Ghul. And I'm tired of you."
Danny did do it to save everyone permanently but after brutally killing Vlad- is when first his friends show up to warn him about his parents just to see what he done.
Danny laughing awkwardly like.. you-you saw that.. didn't you? heh- Then Fentons barge in. Jack is emotional wreck.
Actually getting a few good hits in, before Danny decided to play dead again and let Jack think he destroyed him.
Flying back to gather his stuff to leave permanently. He couldn't take the guilt of looking at Jack's face. Danny Fenton is dead anyways.
Only to be confronted by Jazz later who shakily asks if Danny is her brother.
Danny being honest, "no."
"For how long?" Jazz saying she knows it had to be before the accident.
"…we we're 8."
Jazz asking trying not to sob did he kill him.
"Mercifully." Then explains he was going to die anyways-
"You don't know that-"
"Actually I DO. I know what it takes to KILL someone, what could allow someone to live. That's something I DO know. And if he had managed to live he would be a vegetable." Explaining how the injury to his spinal cord was not recoverable. just imagine its so bittersweet, because Jazz does love her brother still. But Danny has been a lie this whole time.. or at least being Fenton was. Most of the laughs have become real, jokes, the friendship.
But Danny knows he can't fix this.. so he leaves.
Jazz torn whether to beg him to stay or to go.. and just ends up choking up watching him leave.
thus Danny not sure where to go decides its bout time he at least sees his father.
whether he let him see him or not is undecided.
Jack will either be blame for the murder of Vlad, or Phantom will be exposed.
Either way. Danny knew he royally fucked up.. again.
Ooo what if Danny does join the bats but insist he just wants to be a normal teen. Has a fully researched and planned backstory… mostly leaving out things because its "hard" to talk about. How he lived from foster home to foster home pretending to be different children until he just escape.
Until Jazz , Sam , and Tuck come to find him. Having audio where Danny stated he was the son of batman. Danyal Al ghul. So they figured if they find batman. They might find Danny.
Sam and Tucker want answers.. also mixed about Danny.. but dammit they been through so much.. HOW COULD HE keep that from them? They're not going to let him runaway from this. Tucker also adds unless he threatens to kill us.
Jazz had resolved her feelings. Analyzing everything since Danny was 8. When the switch happened. What was him acting and when the real Danyal appeared.
And had decided she didn't care. Danny was her BROTHER. And honestly is the only thing she has left right now. And she wants him back. Wants to help him heal, wants to help him.
Sam and Tuck want their answers then decide what to do from there. They don't WANT everything they knew to be a lie.
And now Batman is aware of more of his son- Damian knowing more of what his twin been up too.
Its a race to get answers out of Danny before he figures it out and disappears for good.
Can see Damian being the best to help Danny through this. Especially since Jon and Dick helped him not feel so bad about the league.
Danny though pointing out- "Difference, the league didn't make me kill a kid, nor a pathetic billionaire."
"You're right. It would have made you kill me."
Danny just breaks.
Thus finally able to admit all his guilt and how terrible he feels about himself. How he TRIED to be like Father but.. he failed so hard. He failed. He failed EVERYTHING. Just a loser. A failure. A waste. Only to be reminded that if he was one- he wouldn't have so many people wanting to know him. He's scared to face his friends' and sister. He knows its gonna hurt. And it does. But even though he isn't forgiven there is hope things can move on from it. Sam and Tucker will have some serious trust issues and take a while to decipher what part is Danny and what isn't. Meanwhile, yes Jazz feels betrayed. She understands and mostly just want to get to know HER brother more.. Danny more. Hope this opens up the wall she wanted to break down this whole time. And as long as Danny shows her who he is, and tries to work on himself. She doesn't care who he was or how he got there. Also he has to show her what he done with her little brother's body and give it a proper burial. Which Danny happily will- giving it a proper burial.. not showing jazz. He's still afraid she'll immediately hate him once she does. Also can see Bruce being so conflicted but Damian, Dick, and Jason all standing up for Danny. Especially Jason once hearing why Danny killed Vlad was to PROTECT his family and town. He gave him fair warning.. So imagine Bruce and Danny having hard time getting along after everything is revealed. But more so just Bruce unable to comprehend the conflicted emotions. Danny tried to emulate him.. but failed. But he tried to do good.. yet he still killed. So its more so awkward than anything. Bruce still wants to give his son the best. Then I can see Danny helping out- though he keeps phantom a secret from the public. He's always invisible or barely seen.
you’re gonna go far | two - the country club
Tumblr media
SERIES MASTERLIST pairing: rafe cameron x pogue!reader
summary: where Rafe who hates pogues has a soft spot for one, who couldn't care less about him, she's too independent and too focused on graduating college and making it out of the Cut to pay attention to him or where they say they don't like each other yet for a reason they are always at the same place at the same time, him making time for her and her never pushing him away but again they don't like each other. word count: 4.5k content: kelce being an asshole, tension, angst, manhandling (not from rafe), cursing, suggestive, probably inaccurate golf talk, topper being nice for once. authors note: it took me too long to finish it i apologize, i'm not the biggest fan of this but i had to set the scene and introduce some very important characters for the story to continue and to finally get on to the juicy stuff. i read it like 4 times but if you see a grammar error let me know i can always miss things. enjoy!
Tumblr media
Working on Figure 8 for a pogue was very common, those were usually the better paid jobs so naturally that’s where usually everyone wanted to work or went looking for a job. You actually spent more time on Figure 8 than most of your friends. You had been on multiple jobs over the years, bookshop, coffee shop, retail, babysitting, waitressing in different places, the one night fancy events were the best, the check was big even though you would usually end up almost passing out from exhaustion. The job you were in was one of the best, it was at a cute bistro aimed at girls. The vibes were very girly, the uniform was pretty, everything about the job was good, everything but the clients, the older clients were the problem most of the time. You couldn’t stand another minute more of these stupid older women in their 40s treating you as if you were a freaking alien and all you could do was smile and nod even when you wanted to spill their drinks on them, scream at them or even spit on their food.
You would expect trashy behavior from girls your age and they had their moments but usually they didn’t care or if they knew you through Sarah they were nice but the problem was usually their mothers and one kook girl group and oh they made sure to make your life a living hell. And that’s why now your patience was at negative 100 and you were looking for a new job that was as good as this one in the financial area and that you could enjoy at least a bit.
The days after the Boneyard party you were focused on looking for a new job which had help you ignore everything that had happened with Rafe that night, but some of the things you said and he said were replaying in your mind making it a little bit harder to concentrate and since you spent too much time on Figure 8 you had been on edge not wanting to bump into him but again that little bistro was aimed at women and too girly for him to even set foot in so that was the only thing keeping you at ease.
You wanted to find another job on your own, this one Lily had helped you secure it and you were forever grateful but you didn’t want to ask for her help again or Richard’s. Lily and Richard were this old couple you had met around a year and a half ago, give or take. You had met them in the coffee shop you used to work at before. They were regulars and usually came by on slow days so you always sat with them and quickly they became your friends. They had helped you one to secure a better job and two to know when you could apply for a scholarship at community college last year. They were in a sense like godparents, they had always wanted a daughter or granddaughter and it didn’t happen so when they met you, a girl around their grandsons age and with how sweet and kind you were to them they just wanted to look out for you while that wasn’t the only reason or even the main one it was the one they gave you, you still didn’t understand it but you never pushed them to tell you the truth. Your mom was aware they were your friends and in how they had basically made you their goddaughter and as a little strange it was for a 20 year old to be friends with a couple in their 70s she was so grateful for how much they had helped you. They had pushed you to make decisions like going to college and helped you find a job, your mother couldn’t thank them enough for the big impact they had in your life. Sometimes people just needed someone external like a mentor to make them do things they wouldn’t normally do and that’s what they were for you.
You had already been studying for a year and in a couple months you were starting your sophomore year of college, nursing had always been your dream but you were going to study to be a teacher until by grace meaning Lily, had talked to you she finally convinced you to go for what you really wanted, your mother had been fighting with you about it and when you finally made the decision she could almost kiss Lily. That’s another reason why your mom was grateful for them, their advice went through more easily probably because of the age and well your mom knew how stubborn you were, you were like her so she couldn’t really blame you for not listening to her all the time. But you did listen to her this time and that’s why you ended up knocking on Lily and Richard’s house that day. You felt like a puppy with her tail in between her legs, you were unsuccessful at finding a new job on your own and your mom told you to ask for help. It took a while to convince you but there you were.
“Oh sweetie what an amazing surprise!” Lily smiled when she opened the door to greet you, letting you in their house, it was crazy how familiar it felt. “Richard! Look who came to visit us” she said with the warmest smile ever.
She let you in, or more like dragged you inside, it felt familiar. Still you felt like you were abusing their trust and their kindness, they didn’t see it like that but you did “Well hello you!” Richard says “what brings you here today? More of Lily’s food? Because i can’t blame you if you do” he chuckles
“Uh not precisely” you smile, feeling like the worst person it’s okay to ask for help you kept repeating in your mind. Lily noticed your uneasiness and decided to distract you.
“Why don’t you sit here?” she pointed to the kitchen island “I was waiting for some cookies to cool you can help me decorate them God knows Richard won’t do it”
“I can help to eat them” he pointed out while walking to sit on the couch, the kitchen had a little sitting area “so tell us what brings you around?” you silently sigh, grabbing a piping bag to help Lily decorate the cookies
“Richard shut it, she can come by with no reason if she wants, she’s always welcome” Lily says while putting the icing on the cookies and giving you a knowing look, how on earth does she do that?
He rolls his eyes playfully “No, I didn't mean it like that, you know that, right Y/N?” Richard is used to Lily’s attitude, you chuckle and nod. For a while you kept quiet, indulging in the talk, finding the courage to finally speak up and ask for their help.
“So how’s work?” Lily asked, you didn’t notice the knowing look she had given you, she knew you weren’t liking it, you haven’t told her anything but she knew since she usually went by to get together with her friends but she always noticed the disgust in your face when talking to certain people. You had never been good at hiding emotions with your face, maybe you didn’t talk but your face sure did.
“Uh it’s good yeah” you tried to sound convincing, dodging her gaze. They exchanged a look, Lily had told her suspicions to Richard and they had already thought about a new job that you had mentioned you would like to get.
“So there’s no chance you would like to change jobs?” Richard asks as he keeps going through his phone. You stare at him, like it’s a joke.
“Oh…” is the only thing that comes out of your mouth. Lily turns to look at you, lifting one eyebrow.
“Don’t worry sweetie, if you’re happy where you are don’t let us push you to do something you don’t want to” You didn’t notice but Lily mouthed you’ll see to Richard
“I wouldn’t mind knowing, i-” you pause for a second “if it’s not for me maybe I know someone who might need it” you try to make it sound as if you’re okay with your current job.
“It’s at the Country Club as beverage cart girl it has great pay and tips can be really good too, with how you are we’re sure you won’t have problems with that but if it’s not for you please let us know of someone who might be interested” Lily kept explaining “I’ll admit it can be a little tedious since you have to be on a cart all day around the golf course” your eyes light up bev cart girl, you wanted that job for a while but there were no openings.
“I want it, if it’s okay” you admit, but you look down you can’t stop feeling guilty, it’s okay to let people help
Lily smiled kindly “Well that’s terrific, right Richard?”
“Of course it is, now we’re gonna see you more” he says kindly, you relax. They always meant good, you slapped yourself mentally for feeling guilty or ashamed
“They want you there on Friday so they can train you” you nodded at Lily and spent the rest of the afternoon with them.
During the week after the Boneyard party, Rafe had been in a sour mood, he had been snapping at anyone, Sarah was so over his tantrums to the point that she even went out of her way to talk to Topper so maybe he could help or take him out of the house because she couldn’t stand another second with his bitchy ass.
So that’s how he ended up in the Country Club with Topper and Kelce. Topper didn’t think much on why Rafe was in such a foul mood. Normally it was because of a fight with his dad so he thought it was that again. Wrong, everything was reminding him of you and he tried really hard to just ignore what he was feeling and all the awful things he had said to you but it was like his subconscious was torturing him and he was beyond frustrated.
Golfing with his friends usually helped him get distracted but this time it didn’t work, he was more quiet and not very into the game. He was attempting (and failing) to play golf, getting even more frustrated because the one thing he did to take his mind off things was not working and to make things even worse he saw you driving that stupid golf cart.
“You gotta be fucking kidding me” he mutter to himself
One thing that didn’t cross your mind when you accepted the job was the fact that Rafe liked golf and that he actually spent a lot of time at the Country Club, maybe because you didn’t know he liked golf. It had been five days since you had started working there up to that point you hadn’t thought about Rafe until you saw him, you cursed mentally, it was a rule to stop every time you saw a group of golfers just in case they needed something. You parked the cart, Topper and Kelce started approaching.
You can do it, it’s your job now you told yourself, you put on a fake smile that was very easily wiped off.
“Well, well, well if it isn’t our favorite bev cart girl?” Kelce said, his voice dripping something that made you feel uncomfortable
“This is the first time you’re seeing me around” you stated as you got out of the cart. The glances Kelce was giving to you made you feel uneasy but you tried to ignore him the best you could
“Yeah but it doesn’t mean we haven’t heard from you” Topper was staring at you, not intentionally but he was, he wasn’t gonna lie you were very pretty, easy on the eyes. Rafe noticed the way they were looking at you and unlike Kelce he was not amused.
“Shut it both of you” he snaps at them. Topper finally looks away but in confusion as to why Rafe was so annoyed, Sarah was not lying was the only thing he thought.
“Uh… anything you guys want?” you asked focusing again on why you had stopped and not them for a second
“Oh we definitely want something”  Kelce said, his tone dripping with something else you didn’t like. You stood near the cart allowing you to put some distance between them, Kelce more specifically “Got something planned after your shift?” Topper rolls his eyes at the flirting attempts of Kelce, while Rafe just tenses up a little more seeing you’re just awkwardly smiling trying to avoid whatever Kelce is trying to do.
“Back off idiot, you’re making her uncomfortable” Rafe speaks up, his tone firm and with a hint of warning. You looked at him for a second, silently thanking him but you didn’t forget how awful he made you feel, you knew you had to get over it but you were only human and his words had hurt you a little too much for your liking and seeing him again just brought it back.
“What’s up with you man? Can’t a guy just flirt with the pretty bev cart girl? I'm not doing any harm am I?” Kelce said with a hint of arrogance, you would’ve slapped his face right there but you were working and if you did you would be fired and you needed to work.
“Since you guys don’t need anything I have to go back to my rounds” you said ignoring everything that Kelce had said and walking back to the driver's seat. Much to your disgrace you felt a hand grabbing your arm. Kelce’s hand.
“Wait- don’t leave just yet we’re having a nice little conversation aren’t we? Can’t we have a little fun?” Kelce grins, while Topper just stands there not knowing if he should intervene or not, he is gauging at Rafe’s reaction and at what Kelce might try to do.
“Let go” you say your tone firm, you might be getting too stressed but you’re not letting it show
“Aw don’t be like that, just wanna talk” he keeps the grip on your arm, not willing to let go
“You don’t need your hands to talk, so let go” you pulled your arm back, his grip unwavering
“Feisty, I like that” his eyes roam shamelessly over your body, you feel so uncomfortable and helpless. In any other scenario you wouldn’t but right now it was either you kicked him and lost your job or try to handle the situation the best you could.
“I really need to go, unless you guys want any drinks” you kept trying to deviate the conversation back to the original reason for your stop.
“How about we start with your number?” Kelce said, Topper widening his eyes in shock and Rafe just clenched his jaw more, how much more was his friend gonna push you? And how much longer until he breaks? “Although I know one thing I want to drink” Kelce added his tone as suggestive as it could get
“Jesus, Kelce stop” Topper looked at him and put a hand over his shoulder, he had felt the tension in the air and either he stopped him or he knew Rafe was gonna do something so much worse
The grip on your arm loosened a bit when he turned to Topper but then he looked back at you “Come on pretty face, just give me your number, it won’t hurt” you shook your head immediately
“I really need to get back to work” you looked at Topper and Rafe, silently pleading to make Kelce stop, you would’ve never expected to be silently asking Rafe to do something but this was getting out of hand. He was having an inner turmoil, he wanted to beat Kelce’s ass and help you but he was completely frozen in anger.
“Aw come on we’re not done here yet” he fake pouts for a second, getting a little closer to you, you try to pull back but unfortunately he’s stronger than you. You glance again at the other two, at that point you didn’t care who did something but you needed help.
Topper notices how Rafe is clenching his jaw and his veins are popping out. He takes one step up but before hell breaks loose Topper speaks up with a firm tone “Kelce that’s enough. Let her go” you feel like you’re about to relax but much to your disgrace Kelce is still holding your arm and harder this time.
“What? We’re having fun aren’t we? She’s fine”
“No, shes not, you're making her uncomfortable, let her go now.” Topper notices how he didn’t let go and notice how Rafe was about to break and he knew he was gonna regret it not because Kelce didn’t deserve it but because you were gonna see it, it was an unknown thing for you but he had beat up a guy once or twice at parties when they said some comments just like the ones Kelce was making but worse. But he always made sure you weren’t around or ever found out about it. Yes you had seen him fight JJ or John B but that was purely because they were pissing him off and it wasn’t related to you.
“Dude she doesn’t want your ‘fun’ This isn’t about what you want but what she wants and clearly is not this. Now back off and let her go” Topper’s tone was firm, at that Kelce let you go. Rafe on the other hand was fuming one at how far Kelce had taken things and two at Topper for defending you, he knew being mad at his friend for defending you was a bit childish but it was more because he had stepped up instead of him.
At the second Kelce had let you go, you gave Topper a small smile and he basically dragged Kelce away.
“If you need anything I’ll be around” you didn’t want to be around them for one more second. You glanced at Rafe one more time before leaving, his gaze filled with something you couldn’t understand, you ignored it and got back to the cart and drove away.
“The fuck is wrong with you?” Rafe finally spoke up, pushing Kelce back a little too hard “Think you’re funny?”
“Jeez calm down, it was all in good faith” Kelce smirked, Topper shook his head and intervened before it could escalate to something else.
“Kelce… you’ve done enough. Didn’t you have that meeting with your parents today? You should leave” Topper tried searching for excuses to kick his friend out before Rafe could beat him up. Kelced huffed but he did in fact have something else to do so he left.
After he left Topper brought back his attention to Rafe “Hey man, you okay?” he was actually trying to be a good friend, while Rafe was seething still angry about everything that had just happened.
“Just peachy” the image of Kelce grabbing you, your face… damn it your face, the stress and maybe even fear, why didn’t he do something? He cared for you, yet he didn’t do anything. He was even more angry this time with himself.
“Come on, let’s play, it'll help” he nodded. Yes, golf should help but it didn’t, he kept looking where you had driven away. After what felt like an eternity you showed up again, you were surprised they were still playing, you noticed just two sets of clubs meaning Kelce was no longer there, it gave you peace.
“I hate this game” Rafe mutters under his breath after hitting the ball with more force than necessary. He was so in his head he hadn’t noticed when you showed up until you talked.
“Hey” you talked in a soft yet cold tone, catching him off guard
“Hey” his face was serious, angry even but his tone had gone soft when he noticed it was you
“Do you guys need anything? Snacks, water, ice?” your tone was cold, only made him feel even more guilty.
“No, we’re good for now” until that moment he didn’t notice your uniform, it suited you, the color, everything, it accentuated your body in ways he found enticing and infuriating. He shook his head “But you could stick around for a bit” Topper looked at him confused and interested in the change of demeanor once you had showed up. He was trying to make up for what had happened at the party and with Kelce without addressing the issues.
“I-” you had been caught off guard but you recovered quickly “I can’t, there’s other golfers who might need something and I’m still working”
Rafe seems disappointed? He knows you have to work but he doesn’t want you to go. Topper catches the way his shoulder slightly slump and decides to intervene “Not even a five minute break? I bet it can be tiring having to go around in this heat and serving a lot of people” he was not wrong but still you couldn’t
“I can’t, I have scheduled breaks and that’s in an hour… unless you guys buy something from the cart I can’t stay”
“How about a refill on golf balls? I lost some already and I’m running low” he has a slight smirk on his face trying his best to make you loosen up, he’s lying he never loses a golf ball but it was the first excuse that came to mind and it was believable.
“I'm not the girl for that” you admit with a serious face “but I know someone who can help”
“Can’t make an exception? We won’t snitch” he smirked at you, what was he trying to do? You wanted to wipe that smirk off his face.
“I don’t know… I could but only if I get a good tip” you shrugged, you could do it yes it wasn’t something you would normally do but in your training they had told you that even if it wasn’t part of your job description you had to learn in case of an staff emergency. This was far from being that and you were still annoyed at everything revolving around him so you were gonna try everything to make him back off.
“You got yourself a deal” he agreed almost immediately. You had said that so he could stop asking, but it had caused the opposite reaction. You sighed giving up, at least you were gonna get money out of this.
“I’ll be back then… how many do you need?”
“I’ll take three” his smirk was still plastered on his face, Topper looked in between the two of you, he tried to suppress a smile at the palpable attraction between the two of you, or more the attraction Rafe had for you. The very noticeable change in his demeanor and humor once you had shown up it was like you had brightened up his day.
“Okay, Topper do you need anything?” you asked being polite
“No no, I’m fine thanks” to which you nodded once and walked away saying a quiet I’ll be back, leaving the cart there and making your way to go pick the three golf balls. Once you were out of earshot Topper turns to Rafe and grins widely
“Dude, you’re like down bad for her” he chuckled
“Shut up man” Rafe says as he glares back at Topper
“No, seriously it's like you’re almost drooling over her” He knew it was true, he wasn’t going to admit it but he knew you had some kind of power over him even if it was just by being there.
“You’re being insane”
“Oh I'm insane?, when have you ever been like this? You’re trying too hard to get on her good side, I really never thought I’d see the day, Rafe Cameron pining over a girl, that by the way doesn’t seem to like you” Rafe feels exposed at what Topper is saying so he tries to cover it up
“It’s not like that, she’s just… nice to look at” key on tried to cover it up, he failed miserably, but much to his luck before Topper could keep poking him you showed up again.
You walked back with the three golf balls in your hand “Better tip me good, I went out of my way for these three balls” you gave them to him gently, he was a member you had to be nice.
“Oh don’t worry sweetheart I’ll tip you good” he smirked, he didn’t intend to sound so flirty but it came out so naturally. Topper had to bite a laugh, it was too funny for him seeing Rafe like this.
“Are you guys really sure you don’t want or need anything from the cart? Snacks? Water? Shots?” you ignored his comment and asked once again getting a little annoyed.
“I’m really okay, thanks though” Topper answered your question
“You guys make my job harder” you admit to both of them
“Well maybe we like making things hard for you” Rafe teased back and you rolled your eyes
“Yeah I see that, you sent me for golf balls when im a bev cart girl emphasis on BEV” you crossed your arms
“Maybe I just wanted to see you walk away in that outfit” his tone was dripping with flirtiness and playfulness like he didn’t mean it but he did, which didn’t make you feel like you were being objectified unlike Kelce had made you feel “Besides I’m sure you have some way I can reward you for all this good service” his smirk unfaltering
“I accept cash right now” you smile knowingly putting your hand out, you would never ask for tips but it was Rafe, he had been an asshole, his friend had basically harassed you, and he made you go look for stupid golf balls, a little money was nothing.
“Ah ever the businesswoman” he chuckled “Fine” he pulled out his wallet a 20 dollar bill and placed it in your hand, the brief contact sending a jolt down his back
“Just that?” you pushed “I think I deserve more for all the emotional damage I had to go through” you perked a brow at him, he huffed.
“Emotional damage are you…” he trailed off biting his tongue, he could tell you were already angry and from The Boneyard party he knew better than to poke you more, so because he had felt awful he let it go “Fine” he pulled another 20 dollar bill “are you happy now?” he rolled his eyes
“Very” you faked smiled “Now if you excuse me there’s people who will not waste my time and will tip me without me having to ask” you rolled your eyes, walking back to your cart and driving away.
“Fuck…” he muttered to himself
“Rafe, my man, you got it bad” Topper said, grabbing Rafe’s shoulders and shaking him “Also what did you do to that girl? It was like she was shooting daggers at you”
“Shut up will you?” he shook his head “let’s finish this game I can still beat you”
hii!! I really liked your pickles headcanons and the part about meeting his family was my favorite! if you have the time could I request hcs for meeting the family for the rest of the boys? if not the rest of them then just skwisgaar would be fine!
remember to drink water, eat a snack, and take plenty of breaks!
(ps can i be spade anon?)
HIIII !! Omg thank you sm I had a lot of fun with it lolz. And yeah I can so do that for you :p fair warning it's very improvised since info on these dude's parents are scarce but I hope it's enjoyable anyways ☆
Meeting the Parents HCs
Tumblr media
Nathan Explosion
The one you have to worry least about, his parents are sweethearts.
Though his mom will have an eye on you both the whole time.
I feel like Nathan has a record of getting entangled with people who were not so good for him, so it isn't personal or anything she's just on the fence at first.
Once she realizes you're not like that, though, and genuinely love Nathan and, in turn, treat him how he deserves, she's alllllllll over you.
She's going to want your number, your Skype, your Facebook, everything.
She'll pull out the baby pictures too. It greatly embarrasses your brutal boyfriend.
His dad would be the same, on the fence a little, but he overall trusts Nathan a little more.
He might try to plan a fishing trip, though, and Nathan is going to be all over that, so good luck getting out of that if you viscerally dislike fishing.
Overall, don't sweat it! As long as you treat their boy right, they love you, and you might as well be family now.
Tumblr media
Toki Wartooth
Oh boy. So I'm not sure you could ever really meet his parents?
He doesn't like talking about them. You probably didn't even learn anything about them until late in your relationship.
If you were to hypothetically meet them, well, you're only meeting his mom.
Aslaug would be dead at this point so there wouldn't be much of an option.
Anja is a cold woman with high unachievable standards. So don't take the fact she won't even speak to you too personally.
If you're religious in the Christian sense, you might have a small chance of approval… but then again, you're dating Toki Wartooth of Dethklok, and you had to learn about him somewhere. Goddamn devil music.
Don't even waste your breath. All that matters is how much you and Toki love each other.
Tumblr media
William Murderface
It's not willing on his part at all.
Stella is showing up unannounced, ranting and raving about not telling her he finally got hitched, and he must just want her to die or something.
He's snippy and miserable the whole time. Not miserable in the same sense Pickles was, he's more annoyed than anything.
Stella isn't the most gentle woman. She's abrasive and loud and can be partial to physical violence, but she does care a little bit about her grandson.
She really sucks at showing it, and definitely fucked him up with her parenting style (if his emotional constipation and short fuse didn't make that clear) but she did step up when his parents died instead of letting him go through the system, so.
All this to say, she's giving you a shotgun talk.
William will pry it out of her hands, of course, and curse her out for it, but it's happening !!
After that, though, don't worry, you're family now. Actually, maybe you should worry.
This means that whatever small politeness she whipped up before is long gone, you're a Murderface now, you are going to get treated like one.
Although William couldn't care less about his grandmother's opinion, he cares about yours. So, to see you embracing his family in full stride without getting scared off is more than heartwarming to him.
Tumblr media
Skwisgaar Skwigelf
Again, it's fully unwilling on his end. It would honestly have to be something you want.
I think it's needless to say his relationship with his mom is weird. He truthfully wouldn't mind never seeing her again, especially after the events of fatherklok.
But again, if you really, really, want it then, yeah, he'll take you down to Sweden.
Surfetta doesn't have much of an opinion on you. What you are to her son is no concern to her.
She's most likely tipsy the whole time and disappearing for periods at a time.
The whole thing will feel like a waste of time, and Skwisgaar is stressed.
Don't worry he just needs to play his Thunderhorse for a few hours, and maybe a little bit of laying on top of you with his head on your chest listening to the sound of your heartbeat… just a little.
Daniel: "B-b-b-but Father i-"
Daniels Father: "Enough! YOU ARE OUT OF THE LINE BOY!"
His Father Snapped and Slapped Daniel Right Off the bet…and Then He Turned and Yelled at Barbra Minx as well, Scolding her For Messing around with any woman's man is Totally off Limits. While Barbra's Father who was Also Furious as well and Couldn't believe She would Do such a thing to cause this Whole Embarrassment Out of this Family. Then, Saphira Looked at Daniel and she said To Daniel after she Pulls The Engagement ring off,
Saphira: "We.. Are… Done… I'm Calling Off the Marriage and I'm Breaking the Engagement! I've had enough, I've Had enough of you and your Antics.."
Daniel: "B-b-but Saph-"
Then Saphira Cut in,
Saphira: "NO! NO! I Refuse to marry Someone Who Doesn't Love My Kids Equally and Doesn't Settle With ONE Woman, ONE! And Not Only that I refuse To marry Someone Who Made a Huge Embarrassment Out Of my Family and Brought this Forbidden Favortism In MY Palace! I Will NOT Tolerate This Kind Of Toxicity in MY Kingdom, In MY Family, AND To the ENTIRE CELESTIAL WORLD ITSELF!! You Will be answer to the Royal Court at the Jade palace and I'm Going to make sure your parental Right will be Stripped From your Name and HERS as well! You Will NEVER Be called a Father again, And I'll make sure that No Women will never be marry to you because I knew.. Your father will Make you Marry that Slut For the rest of your Eternity! Now I want you and That Minx Whore Out of This Kingdom and NEVER Set Foot in this Palace again!"
Then Daniels Father Dragged Daniel by the ear and So Does Barbra's father who does the same thing. Saphira was Completely Devastated and Hurt after what Daniel Has Done To her and Her Babies as well, She shook her head and asked herself, "How Could he Do this to His own 2 week old babies?.. I don't Understand why he was doing this? and For WHAT?" Then She realized Daniel only cared about himself and To her surprised he only sees Saphira as her baby Making Machine to have a son so he can take her son and run away with his mistress, Thats What she heard from the Servants. Then Saphira Swore to Herself That She'll Made Daniel pay For His insulting antics, At the Court when the Jade Emperor Ordered Daniel and Barbra To Pay Saphira and the Kids compensation for the Damaged and emotional Distress That they cause Her and the Kids..She Felt Horrible..That Night, Her Father Pacing back and Forth thinking of What to Do about this Situation and He Doesn't want anyone Know that His daughter is Now a Single mother of the kids Which is it will make Her very Difficult To find a right man who will Love the kids.. Then He has an Idea, a brilliant Idea And then he goes to Saphira and told her about it the Idea. He told her that He'll turn the Twins into Fruits and as a spell that "He" Who Touched the 2 Fruit will turn into Gold meaning He is Worthy to be a Father of those twins..and Saphira Asked "How Will You know which one will be Worthy To be My Future Husband and Father Of my twins?" Then Her Father answers That He Will Give Someone 3 Challenging task and if He Succeed, He'll be Proven Worthy and He'll find the Fruit from the Enchanted tree There he will find the 2 Fruits that will turn into gold itself ..So Saphira agree and swore that For the Kids Sake.. She'll Find out Who Is worthy to be a Future Husband and a father of the twins. On the Next Morning, Her Father Sent out an Invitation to Every Eligible Man Who Would Win His Daughter's heart before the hand in marriage and it was Spreading Far and Wide in the Celestial land, Then One of the Villiagers Who speaks and gossip about it made Someone Perks its ears and heard about the Marriage to the Princess.. As the Day Before the Lotus Blossom Feastival day, His Father Announce the Opponent and he Said "Speak Of your Name and Come Set Forth If you accept This 3 Challenge and Win My Beloved Lotus Blossoms heart!" Then The Mystery Person Giggles and Spoke," I accept This challenge" Then Her father Said," Who Spoke First!? Please Bring Forth Young Challenger Speak of your name!" When he came Forward from the Crowd it was None Other than the Great Sage Equal to heaven Known as Sun Wukong, the Monkey King Of Mount Huaguo. Saphira's Eyes Widen and Her face turns Pink when she sees him, Her Father was Suprised and he said, "You! The Great Sage himself.. It an Honor To Welcomed you to my kingdom." He Bows to him and Rise and Then 10 Male Opponents came 5 of them are demons and other 5 are Rich Snobby Princes who would only cared about the throne.. Then The Emperor said," For the First Challenge Gentlemen! Is to Find a "Rare" Flowers That we never seen or No Man have ever Show upon it and My Daughter Will be the Judge of it and If she accepted.. You passed and Will be going to the Second Challenge on the Next day of the Lotus Blossom Festival, Are You Up For the Challenge?" He asked.. And then The Monkey king Said…
Anger, a daughter (Pirtir, Ch.1)
Tumblr media
Series Masterlist
Pairing: Aegon x Rhaenyra's Daughter!Reader
Summary: You return to Dragonstone after nearly two years away, having done what was expected of you and secured your mother's standing with the Great Houses. The safety that you felt after once again doing what was expected of you is taken once you learn that in your absence, your family arranged for you to marry Aegon.
Word Count: 4.5k
Warnings: Topic of arranged/forced marriage. Threats of violence. The usual Targaryen incest stuff.
Some AU/Setting stuff: Reader is a bastard of Daemyra (claimed by Laenor of course), firstborn child of Rhaenyra and heir to her mother’s claim. It is mentioned she has Valyrian features (the hair). She rides Vermithor. She and Aegon had a thing when she was still in King’s Landing. How relevant or impactful that ‘thing’ was depends on who of the two you ask. I’ve stretched the timeline a bit. Rhaenyra spent a few years more in King’s Landing (making Aegon around 16/7 when she leaves, and the Reader, the eldest of the Velaryons, around 14/5). Instead of six years in Dragonstone, the Blacks have spent around three there in this story. Viserys still lives (and is rotting slightly slower), Aegon and Helaena did not marry. Mysaria left for Dragonstone with Rhaenyra, but is still the information broker of the first season, just working from afar. The Reader has spent nearly two years touring Westeros, as her mother did, in search of a husband.
A/N: No Aegon or any of the greens yet, but I wanted to set up some things, so this can be considered a prologue of sorts. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy!
Title is from the "anger, a daughter" by volatilepoetry (link to the piece here, I couldn't find the author's socials)
“Cousin.” You greet with a wide smile, taking the riding gloves off as she comes closer, a mirror of your own smile on her lips.
“Sister,” Baela greets in kind in well-practiced Valyrian, at your reprimanding glare answering with a defiant one of her own. She grabs your hands in hers, smile wide and mirrored in your own face. “I thought you would return to Dragonstone, at the end of your…tour.”
“Even I tire of politics, of playing,” You admit, linking your arm with hers and letting her guide you towards the Driftmark castle. “I wish to rest for a while, before I am to report back to f-…to Daemon. I hoped our grandmother would grant me a few days here?”
“I’m afraid it won’t be possible,” She tells you, pulling from her belt a rolled up message and offering it to you. “A raven brought this shortly after dawn.”
You immediately recognize Daemon’s handwriting, as well as the parting message he directs at his daughters and you in place for a goodbye. Fly, daughter.
Your sister is needed at home, tell her to return to us at once. You must ready yourself to fly to Dragonstone at my command. I’ll send word. Sōvēs, tala.
“So, who did you choose? Whoever it is, you made father angry.”
“Your father.” You correct, but she pays it no mind, as she always does.
“So, who will be the lucky man?”
You turn to face her as you both stand in the base of Driftmark’s stairs.
“I didn’t choose anyone.”
Of course, a Tyrell knight caught your eye and your attention for a while, and you could use the strength of the alliance marrying Vaemond Velaryon’s son would bring, or Rickon Stark’s. You even considered the proposal of Hobert Hightower’s grandson, if only to see your mother breathe fire at the mere idea of it, were you to propose such a union.
But the tour was never organized for the purpose of finding you a husband, this you knew from the beginning. It is the reason you agreed to such a circus in the first place. As Rhaenyra’s first-born child, heir to the Iron Throne and future Princess of Dragonstone, you were sent throughout Westeros to remind the noble Houses of the pledges they made, of where their allegiance is to lie if they hope to remain on the Crown’s good side.
What foolish Lord you couldn’t charm with a well-placed smile or compliment, Vermithor’s presence in their city would remind promptly of the risk of turning on your House, of undermining your mother’s claim. What wouldn’t bend to your will, you would remind how quickly you could break. Such was your task, what was demanded from you, and you played your part as you have always done.
It matters not if by the end of this tour, after twenty months away from home -though a part of you reminds you it has been much longer than that, it has been over three years-, donning whatever face was deemed ideal to realize your objective; you cannot really remember who it is you were before it all. It matters not if it has been months since you’ve been able to meet your own gaze in a mirror, in fear of seeing a stranger -or worse, a familiar face, your mother’s, your father’s, Lady Mysaria’s- looking back.
Your eyes meet Baela’s, and you whisper, “Have you heard I am to marry?”
She hesitates, and that is enough of an answer. You shake your head, step away, stumble over your own feet.
___
You almost feel a young girl again, in the worst possible way, dragged like a dog on a leash after your mother as she departed King’s Landing, gritting her teeth at your cries and answering with soft caresses of your silver hair to your promise that you would never forgive her for taking you from your home.
Now, over three years later, you are to be dragged back to the city that saw you be born, away from your mother’s side, from your brothers’ and stepsister’s sides. And the people responsible for arranging for such a thing are set on hiding, on ignoring you since your return to Dragonstone.
For a time, especially since your aunt’s death and Aemond’s claiming of Vhagar, you believed your mother and Daemon kept you unmarried, kept you here, so that if war were to break out, they would have you and Vermithor to send to battle, to which he is no stranger. You believed if you would one day have to marry, it would be to defend your own claim, offering your hand in exchange for an army, to a man that would know to bend the knee before his queen and before his wife alike.
You believed they kept you near, they let you remain unbound and unmarried, because you served a purpose while free. You believed by playing your part as was demanded from you, twisting and turning to fit into whatever face you were expected to wear, you would have some control over any of it, you would be safe. How foolish, childish, those notions were.
Since Vermithor flew you into Dragonstone, your mother has secluded herself in her rooms, and you have only Daemon to ask for answers to the madness that brews past the safety of the island.
“I do not wish to leave. I will not leave, unless you tell me what awaits me in King’s Landing.”
But you know, some part of you knows, and that part of you is gnawing at you, at your composure, at your resolve.
Daemon shrugs one shoulder, “Why? It was once your home. That shithole of a city saw you be born, after all.”
“My home is, as has always been, Dragonstone.” Lie, lie, lie. You remember the halls of the Red Keep better than you know the halls of this very castle.
“Then you must be used to homesickness by now. Five and ten years raised in King’s Landing, nearly two years touring Westeros. You have spent…what? A year settled here?”
You roll your eyes, but he doesn’t much care, walking past you to pour himself a cup of wine. He lifts an empty cup your way to offer a drink, but you hold your ground, and insist,
“I detest games, Daemon.”
“You sound like your mother when you talk like that,” He quips, with cruel humor, chuckling at a joke that only amuses him. You turn to look at him with narrowed eyes and jaw set tight, and he lets out another mad little chuckle, “You also look like her when you glare like that.”
“I only ask that-…”
“When in your life have you asked for only one thing?”
“And yet you have always indulged me. Indulge me now,” You ask, walking to him, forcing the tension in your shoulders to loosen and your face to reflect the softness of the child he has always had a weakness for. What is expected, what is needed, if you are to win this particular battle. Your mother, your brothers, they are to be faced with callous strength, with a temper and a certainty you inherited from the man who made you who you are; but the man himself is to be faced with the pleading eyes of his daughter, with the docile manners of a maiden who needs his guidance, his protection. And so, you show the face required to get the upper hand. Quietly, softly, you plead, “Do not insult me or my intelligence by acting as if I cannot understand whatever game is being played.”
“You wield lies effortlessly,” He concedes, head lolled to the side as he considers you, “But you should know better than to try with me.”
You allow yourself a smile, despite yourself, and let go of pretenses. Even so, you aren’t sure if the face you show Daemon now is an honest one, or merely yet another mask to try and gain his favor.
Shrugging one shoulder as you lean against one of the stone pillars, you admit,
“It was worth a try.”
“It is more of an instinct than a choice by now, I’d say,” Daemon corrects, taking a few steps in your direction. You don’t miss the fact that he has positioned himself between you and the door, a physical reminder that whatever he is about to say is as inescapable as this room. “A useful instinct, now that you are to marry.”
Your refusal is immediate, “No, I’m not.”
At his answering look, halfway between surprise and anger, you wonder absently if this is the first time you’ve denied him since he married your mother.
“You are aware this is not a request.”
“I’ll feed to Vermithor whatever man you try chaining me to. You are aware this is not an empty threat,” You tell him. It feels good, to admit such a thing, to promise such a thing, because it feels true. “I told you I wouldn’t marry unless the war demanded it.”
“It does. You are to avoid war, and marry my brother’s son, Aegon,” He promises, and he knows it, you see it in his eyes, that at the uttering of a single name your threat is made null. You realize then why it is your mother hides from you. “It is done, a deal has been brokered with my brother and his wife, y-…”
“You have no right to make arrangements in my name.” You blurt out, a desperate attempt, not unlike a cornered beast lashing out and wounding its own maws as it bites the approaching spear. Now this, shamefully, terribly, this feels yours. This anger, this desire to hurt. With all the venom of a lifetime of wasted deference, of useless loyalty, you ready yourself to speak a lie once again, “You are not my father. Whore out your sons to the Hightowers if you wish, but you have no right t-…”
Your words die in a gasp as Daemon hurls the cup in his hand at a wall and advances towards you, quick strides until he stands before you, towering over you with quickened breath. He doesn’t strike you, never has. But it is no less of a threat. A warning not to step out of line, a reminder of what your lies protect you from.
A twitch in his expression, a glimpse of a snarl, before he warns,
“Careful now.”
“We both know there are things my mother won’t forgive,” You answer, “It is you who ought to be careful.”
“She has approved of this union.”
You doubt it. You want to doubt it, need to. It is one thing to try and link the warring branches of the House of the Dragon by joining Jacaerys, kind and gentle Jacaerys, and your sweet aunt Helaena.
It is another to send her only daughter, her heir, to one of Alicent’s sons.
Still, because some part of you, small and still in the carriage as it drives away from King’s Landing, grasping your mother’s hand in yours even as you curse her and her choices, cannot stand the thought of standing corrected, of being made to face that for the security of her claim Rhaenyra would give you away to a man on the far end of the Crownlands; you do not voice an argument, and instead clarify,
“I was speaking of what you are threatening to do with your hands,” Daemon leans back with a thoughtful hm that does nothing to hide the way he still bristles at the faintest reminder of powerlessness. Careless, you push forward, insist, “Let us wait, let me stay, and…”
“And what, hm? Let war come to us? Let those vipers continue to undermine your mother’s claim? Let them put Otto Hightower’s pawn on the throne our forebears forged?”
You are shaking your head before he is even done speaking, and you can only offer a sigh as an answer, a plea as a retort,
“Let me fight.”
“You will fight as I see fit that you do,” He answers, simply, carelessly. “You will play your part, as is your privilege, your duty.”
“If I had been a son, y-…”
“I have had a lifetime of hearing your mother speak the same nonsense. I will not hear it,” Daemon interrupts, before leaning closer and reminding you, cruel, mocking, “You are not a son.”
“I ride the second largest dragon in the world, I-…”
“Then you should find it easy to tame a smaller one,” Daemon promises, not without cruelty. “We will depart in a month. The betrothal will be officially announced then, with us all in King’s Landing. Plenty of time to say your goodbyes.”
“There have been…whispers of a royal event for months now. I didn’t know, I-…”
“Did you think they were setting up a tourney for one of those shits? Or that my brother had somehow managed to sire another child?”
You shake your head, but your heart races and your breath quickens, because how could you not see it before?
You served your purpose, without faltering, without question. You amended the bonds your mother’s carelessness and her husband’s viciousness had broken, you strengthened the claim her mistakes had weakened, you lied and charmed to protect your brothers from the fate she imposed upon them. And now your use is through.
The reward for your deference is a noose around your neck.
“You had me travel the entire continent, entertaining countless proposals from the most insufferable of men and breaking bread with the most boring fucks alive, while you planned on giving me away.”
“The tour was never meant to find you a husband, you knew that. A future Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, birthing children for a…a…Tyrell? Or a Stark?” Daemon asks, as if the mere idea is unfeasible, ridiculous. “You are the blood of Old Valyria, and as wretched as that little cunt is, Aegon is my brother’s. A Targaryen.”
You do not care for his tales of superiority, you do not care for those fantasies. Instead, you merely insist, “You plotted against me, while I was far from home.”
“No. There is a plot, but it was not against you. If anything, this was done in your name, for your benefit,” He argues, pragmatically. Daemon leans closer, head bowed to meet your eyes. “Everything I’ve done has been to secure your claim, to ensure your ascension after your mother’s.”
“To ensure your blood sits the Iron Throne.”
He doesn’t deny it, and you don’t expect him to. The faintest of gestures of his head towards the door orders you to walk. You follow the unspoken command, for what else can you do but obey, and walk towards the door.
“It is settled.” He calls out after you. At the absence of your answer, of your compliance, Daemon barks a call of your name. An order, a threat, even if it isn’t voiced as one, making you stop in your tracks. “You are a loyal daughter, and you know better than to forsake your duties to your mother. You won’t betray her.”
“What you are asking of me is betrayal,” You argue, turning to look at him over your shoulder. “To marry our enemy, to lay with him, what is that if not a betrayal of my mother, of her claim?”
“It is a sacrifice,” He corrects, but such appeasements, such manipulations, better suit Lady Mysaria. He has too much pride for the deceit to work, and so the lie stumbles in his tongue, rushing forward a truer sentence, “And I don’t ask.”
___
Lady Mysaria finds you in the eastern balcony overlooking the sea, welcomes herself into the room and walks towards you, stopping only a few steps behind you She doesn’t announce herself nor ask for permission to speak, and you know better than to expect her to do either, after years of knowing her as your parents’ advisor.
“I’m guessing you do not come here bearing good news.”
“What would be good news to you, Princess?”
“A freak dragon-riding accident leaving my future betrothed somewhere in the depths of the Narrow Sea?” You ask, rueful smile curving at your lips.
“You speak as if you wouldn’t grieve for him.”
“I would not grieve Aegon, or any of them, for I do not know the people they have become in these passing years.”
“Is that why you ask my spies about him when they reveal themselves to you in your travels? To know the man he has become?”
You sometimes wonder why you bother arguing with her. Not once have you been able to hold the upper hand for more than a breath.
“I asked once.”
You were wary, and far from home, and the flutter in your chest when Alasdair Tyrell laid a crown of Dragon’s breath on your lap -after his victory in the tourney organized to welcome you into the Reach- had felt familiar but wrong. Nostalgia and something else, something far more stupid, overwhelmed you, and you summoned one of Lady Mysaria’s spies, sent with you as a handmaiden, and asked her to tell you what she knew about how Aegon fared, who he had become in these passing years.
You told yourself that while you knew better than to reach for a past and a bond long gone, neither could hurt you, so many years removed from the girl you were, so many miles away from what you once called home. And it didn’t, the past didn’t hurt you. What could have been did, however.
“I will concede that you have learned to request information more subtly, but it does not mean you don’t ask, Princess.”
“No, your spies offer information freely. Information I do not ask for,” You argue, but she breathes a short little laugh in response. It irks you, unsettles you, and you find yourself arguing further, explaining further, “I wanted to know if he was well, long ago, a-…”
“And my spies told you he wasn’t.”
“And so I never asked again.”
“It is a smart choice, to feign ignorance, but you should know better than to attempt to hide something from me.”
“I have hidden nothing, for there is nothing to hide.”
She hums lowly, considering her words with a sly smile on her lips.
“You must refrain from defensiveness if you are to lie efficiently, Princess.”
You grit your teeth but refuse her the satisfaction of knowing she prodded at a still-unarmored part of you. Instead, you bow your head as you did when you were barely five-and-ten and she had issued her first lesson on how to survive a world such as this.
“Of course, Lady Mysaria.”
“I would have expected you to be relieved, if nothing else, at the revelation of who you are to marry,” She muses. If she understands the threat written in your eyes when you turn to look at her, she cares not for it, and presses on, “You were quite close when you were younger.”
“I was close to all of them.”
“I mislike repeating myself. You cannot hide things from me, Princess.”
You take a breath that feels a tad too shallow, you grit your teeth until you hold yourself under control, you hold your tongue until you’re certain it won’t betray anger, sorrow, something else. It feels invasive, unbearable, like fingers prodding at a well-hidden wound.
“It was nothing. A passing infatuation of youth.”
“Passing fancy,” She corrects. “The words the Queen used were passing fancy. If you are to shield yourself with the words of others, do so properly.”
The troubling and annoying thing about sharing a home with someone that trades secrets is that none can be kept from her, and the frustrating thing about counting amongst those closest to you the person that taught you to lie and deceive is that you find it impossible to fool her. And with no secrets, with no lies, there is no fun in playing the game anymore.
“What is it you mean to ask, Lady Mysaria?”
“Aren’t you at the very least relieved? Contented?”
You shake your head.
“I do not know who Aegon is any longer. Who I-…” The revelation stumbles in your tongue, remains sealed past closed lips. The admission that you have forsaken yourself somewhere in the road to this day is something she might know already, but you refuse to admit aloud. “I have spent the last two years on lands foreign to me, many of them hostile to me. I am…I am wary, and I do not wish to do so again. I am tired of feeling…defenseless.”
Mysaria lets silence linger for a few moments as you both watch your brothers’ dragons at flight in the skies above you.
“You want war,” She states, “You deem fire and blood the only future in which you are safe.”
It is a truly horrifying talent that she possesses, that uncanny ability of hers of digging under your skin until she finds the truer face out of all you wear and brings it to light in all its ugliness and its monstrousness.
But perhaps that is why you can allow yourself to speak in honesty now, for the first time since you left Dragonstone for a royal tour, or perhaps for the first time since you left King’s Landing.
“In war, me and my dragon are useful here, defending my claim. In war, I remain unbound, able to fight back,” You tell her, not caring about considering your words, about guarding your back. Turning your head to look at her, you argue, “In times of peace, I am sent away. Twice over, I have lost my home for the sake of peace.”
“Hm,” Mysaria muses, and when she walks past you towards the balcony, you cannot help but follow. Your eyes seek the horizon, while the White Worm’s linger on Arrax and Vermax playing in the clouds above you. “You will not find yourself without allies, Princess. A spider can spin a web anywhere in the world, it needs only time.”
“Speaking of time,” You start, straightening yourself and turning on your side to face her. You bow your head, in goodbye and in something else, something closer to gratitude than your hurt and your pride let you admit right now. “I fear our time together has come to a close.”
“Your family isn’t leaving for King’s Landing for another two days.” She argues, but she knows, you are certain she does. It is no coincidence, that she has come to find you now, that she has come to say goodbye.
Because honesty comes easy with her, you admit, “I dislike feeling like prey.”
You could swear there is the beginning of a smile curving softly at her lips, but Mysaria merely bows her head and whispers a wish of, safe travels, Princess.
___
Daemon approaches, you know him by the cadence of his footsteps by now, as you stand on one of the cliffs near the castle. He says nothing, joins you in watching as Vermithor stands before you, proud and stubborn, head held high despite your request that he bow it to allow you to climb onto his saddle.
“Are you two having a fight?”
“The old brat doesn’t want to leave the Dragonmont, and thinks we have a choice in the matter!” Your last words, hissed in Valyrian as you argue with the old dragon, make Daemon chuckle. “If I ask that Silverwing fly with us, y-…”
“You know better than to ask that from us.”
“He doesn’t want to leave her side. Vermithor, sweet thing, I feel for your broken heart, I truly do. But I won’t go by boat, much less carriage,” Vermithor answers with a huff of steam, and flaps his wings slightly, a warning that he will shake you off like he would a bothersome fly if you attempt to mount him regardless. You heave a sigh, “Stubborn fuck.”
Vermithor understands the Common Tongue, you are certain he does, for he lowers his head for a moment as if to taunt you to try, and the call that echoes from deep in his chest truly sounds mocking.
“It is your own restlessness, your own fear, that make him refuse you. You do not wish to leave, and so he doesn’t want to take you there.”
“I did not want to visit half the places we did during my tour, and yet he took me anyways.” You argue, and though for a moment you think to ask him if he will try to stop you, you refrain.
Daemon somehow knows that you have decided to take flight to King’s Landing tonight, and he has chosen not to stop you. Perhaps he understands the restlessness that has only grown in you since you were told of your betrothal, as perhaps that same restlessness consumed him once, when he was also young and sent off to marry for duty.
“You weren’t afraid during your tour.” Daemon argues, but you shake your head.
“Of course I was afraid. I did it anyways, because…because it was what you and mother demanded from me, but I was terrified,” You admit. Perhaps it is the darkness and quiet of a night in the vast openness of the Dragonmont, perhaps it is the defeat that clings to your very bones like the most bitter cold, but you do not care for lies, for masks, right now. “I haven’t stopped being afraid since we left King’s Landing.”
Daemon turns to you, but you cannot look at him. You dread to look into your father’s eyes and see disappointment at your admission; you dread to see anger at your weakness. Most of all, however, you dread to see a shadow of regret, at what he’s done, at what he has failed to do.
For it wouldn’t change a thing. You would still be sent off, you would still be given away, you would still be left with no control over any of this.
At your silence, Daemon turns back to look upon the Bronze Fury.
“And yet you do not want to return. And your dragon defies you because of it.”
“He took me there once already, you know. A month or so before the tour began,” There’s a ghost of a smile playing at your lips as you share the memory. “It was…the worst storm I can remember, and he had us fly right through it. I cursed his name until I was hoarse and once it was over, I demanded he take me home at once. He took me to King’s Landing.”
"Did you land?"
"Of course not. It is hostile territory."
“It is your birthright,” Daemon promises. It used to feel liberating to hear him reaffirm your claim and your mother’s. Now it feels heavy. The weight of a crown you do not yet wear is entirely too great, and you bow your head. Daemon continues, “It was Vermithor who called to you, who allowed you to claim him. Vermithor, a dragon who only ever bonded with Kings.”
“But I am no King,” You argue, returning your gaze to him. “For I am not a son.”
