Ready to Let Go
Xiao x Adeptus!Fem!Reader (x Zhongli)
Summary: Zhongli loves you, Xiao loves you, You love Xiao. Seems as though, in the eyes of everybody else, Zhongli was gonna be a problem within your relationship with your fellow adeptus. He would never do that though, not to you, not to Xiao. For the first time, the vigilant yaksha seems happy, and you seem more carefree the moment you two are starting to get close to one another. Zhongli would never trade your happiness for the sake of his own, and that's why, he's ready to let go.
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
The God of War, flaunting over one of his very own dearest adeptus, if Guizhong saw him right now, she would've laughed at how much he jumped and flaunted over you whenever you were in his presence.
But love is complicated, he could say he loves you with a burning passion, yet it can never change the fact that you had fell for another, no matter how much Zhongli might push through, you will choose to be embraced within the arms of your true beloved, Xiao.
Neither you nor him ever said anything to confirm the nature of your relationship, but Zhongli felt it, the connection between you and the adeptus was so much more than just two people who used to work along side each other. You and Xiao, he's known both of you for millennias, you're not really the greatest with expressing emotions.
Zhongli was never one to fight reality, in fact he accepted it with open arms, having no care for the pain it might bring.
But just this once, he let's himself drift to a false hope, perhaps you only see Xiao as a friend, that in actuality you tell him the feelings that you're too scared to say to your Archon. But every time Zhongli dreamt like that, he can't help but see Xiao, sadness clouding over him, it slaps the brown-haired man in the face.
He can't do that to Xiao. The poor boy, tormented his entire life, but today, he may very well be bearing a smile on his face, with you around him, with you loving him.
He was sitting between you two, in a table in Wangshu Inn's restaurant area, the light atmosphere was calming.
It was supposed to be a nice get together, yet Zhongli felt irritated. The way your gaze lingers past him and onto the person of your interest as you spoke about how you tried cooking mortal food recently. How you seem to take into account every expression and response Xiao would give, but pay no mind to Zhongli at all.
You weren't being rude and ignoring him the whole time, in fact, you make eye contact with him from time to time, to see if he's understanding you. But Zhongli felt peeved, why couldn't you look at him the way you looked at Xiao?
"I really like cooking actually!" You exclaimed, the cat-eyed adeptus smiling softly while listening to your rambles, his elbow resting on the table, while his chin leans on his hand. That makes Zhongli feel even worse for having such feelings for you, just looking at the small but genuine smile on Xiao's face as he admires you.
"Xiao?" You softly called out to him, clasping your hands together. The adeptus gave a hum in response. "There's this recipe I found called "Tofu Cookies with Almonds", I was hoping you could help me taste test them when I try baking for the first time?" Your voice gets quieter the more you say. Zhongli found it adorable when you get shy, yet he can't help but feel a nauseous felling eating away at his skin, you didn't invite him.
The waitress puts the food you all ordered on your table before Xiao answers. Zhongli looked into your eyes, seeing the nervousness as you anxiously wait for an answer.
"Okay."
Golden orbs then looked at Xiao, seeing he's looking away from you, his ears red from embarrassment. Yet even when he tried to hide it, the Archon can feel his giddiness from miles away.
Zhongli can't help but look back and forth, seeing your eyes light up with happiness because of Xiao's answer. "Thank you so much!" You smiled brightly, proceeding to put some food onto your plate to start eating.
In all this, Zhongli felt as though he didn't have a place. Perhaps you were overjoyed that you didn't look at the fact that you completely discarded him, but someone else noticed.
"Mora- Zhongli can join us too, he's good at taste testing food." Xiao looks at you, before looking at the taller man. "I think." Zhongli then nodded, agreeing with Xiao's statement.
He knows he shouldn't, he knows that he just let the two of you resolve your feelings together, just the two of you. Yet he can't, for once in his life, he feels that it's too hard to let go.
The two looked at you expectantly, despite you making it obvious that you wanted to spend some time with Xiao alone, Zhongli hoped that maybe, just this one occasion, you'll let him intervene with your growing relationship. It's selfish, it's pointless, but just this once.
You smiled, "Okay."
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
"Mr. Zhongliiii!" You burst in the funeral parlor, calling out to him. "You have to help me." The man got up from his seat immediately, worried.
"What happened?!" He asked in a panic.
You looked down onto the book in your hands, the man did the same, looking at a book that has a very interesting title.
'The Art of Romance: For Newbies.'
What?
Usually, if you were to come to him with a book like that in hand, he would have laughed and teased you, eager to see your embarrassed state. Yet, Zhongli felt nothing but hopelessness, you putting in so much effort for someone else, meaning he really has no chance, does he?
"I need to you to help me look for a really nice dress. Like really, really nice! Oh but not too nice, since we're baking, if I get stains on a dress, he might think I'm sloppy. Oh, but if it's too simple, he'll probably think that I don't really care. Ohhh, but I don't want to seem like I care too much--" You looked up at him, rambling on and on about what you're supposed to wear for tomorrow. "It says here that if the person thinks you're too desperate, they might think it's weird." You pointed at the book that you're holding, bring it closer to his face.
Zhongli gently grabbed your hands that are clasped around the book. "If you're worried about Mora, I already have some on me." You peaked your head from behind the book, looking at the brown-haired man's serious face.
"Him?" Zhongli completely ignores your ramblings, only focused on one thing you said. You're worrying so much about what to wear, just to make a good impression to him.
You felt your cheeks heat up as he looks at you with a frown on his face. You laughed a bit to ease the tension, scraching the nape of your neck.
"Xiao..." He's mentally prepared himself for this moment, you would come to him, ask for advice since you knew him as a very cultured man, and you would confess your love, for someone else. And yet, hearing it come from your own lips seem to crack the barriers of his heart with just one word.
Despite the tears wanting to just slip out of his golden orbs, he smiled at you. "I've always sensed your feelings towards him." His words fluster you even more, you didn't realize it was so obvious, but Zhongli was a very observant person, maybe it was just that.
"Do you wish to impress him tomorrow? That's why you're so... jumpy today?" You nodded, feeling embarrassed that you are worried about this sort of thing. Usually, only mortals are prone to these types of worries.
"Y/N, Xiao doesn't care about those trivial things. You just have to be yourself." He told you as a matter of fact.
'Besides, the Yaksha already is making it obvious that he likes you back.' Zhongli kept this thought internally.
"But what if he doessss." You whine, gripping on the book tighter. "Xiao is just so.... Xiao! So unpredictable and complicated." Sighing, you looked up at the man again. "Can you help me, please?"
Zhongli sighed, although it hurts him to help dress you up so pretty, just to send you off to another man, but he'll bite. How could he ever say no to you.
After hours of rummaging through your closet, you finally, finally find something that's actually good in your eyes, even though Zhongli assured you that everything would be fine.
The dress of your choice has Xiao's colors, white, gold, mint green. You really are some piece of work, piece of work that doesn't belong to him.
Zhongli just kept sighing as he walked back to the funeral parlor, he's conflicted, which usually doesn't happen. Is he just gonna leave you two alone for tomorrow with some lousy excuse, or... get in the way.
As he got to the entrance of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, he saw Xiao, sitting on a bench just outside. The cat-eyed boy sensed Zhongli's presence, standing up and looking at his way immediately.
The brown-haired man walked up to him, silently asking why he's here all of a sudden, in the city, which also doesn't happen very often.
"Can you help me?"
Oh boy, here we go again.
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
"You don't have to straight up lie if you don't like her treats, you can just give polite comments, like saying you're not really a big fan of them or something." Zhongli explained once again, it was the dead of night. Xiao had asked to help with how he should talk to you, he's not very talkative and expressive, but he doesn't want to make you feel like he doesn't like you.
"But that might also hurt her feelings." The Yaksha pointed out, listening intently to the older man.
"Yes, but she will appreciate the truth rather than a pointless lie."
He just needs help expressing his feelings right.
And Zhongli seeing how you two desperately try to be the best you can for one another, it makes him smile, despite the constant heart ache. And the realization that he has no chance for you, with the evidence right in front of him, Zhongli makes his decision...
He's ready to let go.
"I'm not gonna be joining you two tommorow."

The Great Animal Rescue
Summary: You should have minded your own business, but try saying no to a little girl who was crying for her cat. Now you are stuck in a tree trying not to embarrass yourself in front of the attractive individual who comes to your rescue.
A/N: This is a Skye/Daisy x reader short that is meant to give some background for them in I Said No
___________________________________________________________________
2:17pm
Y/N where r u??
You are stuck in a tree with no way down is where you are. You should really learn to say no to people. It’s what got you into this mess in the first place. You were on your way to meet your friends at the movies after stopping at an ice cream shop for a cone. You thought, why not walk the way there? It is only a few blocks away and it’s nice outside.
So you began walking, licking your ice cream happily. It’s nothing compared to the ice cream shop in the small town where your cousin lives, but this one is still pretty damn good. Not two minutes into your stroll, the sound of someone sniffling made you pause. You hesitated to investigate where the noise was coming from, seeing that your cousin’s husband has given you plenty of lectures about stranger danger. You ignored the voice in your head saying he might have a point. He spends a lot of his time in New York; there are a lot of weirdos there. This is LA in broad daylight. The worst thing that could happen where you were at the moment would have been getting run over by an electric scooter.
Clearly you were wrong.
It turned out to be some kid crying because her cat wouldn’t come down from the tree. You asked her where her parents were. She said they were inside the house and wouldn’t come outside because if the cat could climb up, it would eventually come back down. You told her they were probably right and were about to leave her there on the sidewalk but that was before she gave you some of the most adorable puppy dog eyes and a “please”.
You asked the girl to hold your cone while you spotted the cat. It didn’t seem to be too far up into the tree. You started climbing up, grabbing a branch and hoisting yourself up. One branch made a on your green sweater, making you mumble in displeasure the rest of the way up to the cat. You should have listened to her parents as well. As soon as you had reached the cat, the damn thing ran past you and ran down the tree like a squirrel. You nearly lost your balance.
The girl thanked you even though you didn’t really do anything and ran inside her house after her cat, taking your ice cream with her. After mumbling to yourself on never falling for some puppy eyes again, you realized how far up you actually were. Your face blanched and your grip tightened around the tree branch keeping you balanced.
You felt your phone vibrate and it took you 5 minutes to actually take it out to read the message. That’s where you are at right now. Trying to message your friend Ola back, typing with one shaky thumb.
2:23pm
Stuck intr ee two block sway help
Before pressing send, you think it over. Should you message her back? You know if you tell her to come rescue you, she would come with the rest of the gang and they would never let you live it down. Is it worth it? Better that than dying up here, you think.
Going to press send, your sweaty hand loses its grip on your phone and it falls onto the grass below. “Fuck!”
“Fuck!” Someone echoes from below, startling you in return. “Shit!”
You’re practically hugging the tree at this point. The person below you speaks to you, “You scared the shit out of me. What are you doing up there?”
You hesitate to look down but brave the fear of looking down to see the woman talking to you. And what a spectacular view you have. Had you not already been weak in the knees from being so terrified, you would have some now from looking at this gorgeous person. She’s clearly waiting for your reply, so you clear your throat and say, “Rescuing a cat. What are you doing?”
“Walking to my van.” She points to the van across the street. “Where’s the cat?”
“What?” you ask. She raises an eyebrow at you. “You said you were rescuing a cat, but I don’t see any.”
“Very observant of you,” you point out, not answering her question. She narrows her eyes at you. “You’re not like some weirdo trying to peek into someone’s bedroom are you?”
You scoff. “What?! No! I’m one for one on rescuing cats, actually. It went back inside to its house.” You defend yourself. “Besides, you’re the one with the creepy ‘I’ve got candy inside my van’ van, so.”
Now this stranger looks embarrassed. “It’s for work.”
“Who do you work for? The CIA?” you joke, making the woman laugh. “They’d wish.”
It’s your turn to give her a questioning look at the odd response. She ignores it and loops back to you. “So if this great animal rescue went just like you said, why are you still up there?”
“To, uh-get better reception,” you lie. She looks at you unimpressed and you see why when she bends down to pick up the phone you dropped. “You mean for the phone that’s down here on the ground?”
You laugh nervously. She catches on when she notices how tight your hold on the tree is. “Are you sure you’re not just stuck up there?”
“What? Stuck? Me?” you laugh as if what she is saying is just offensive. “No, I just liked the peacefulness the tree provided. I dropped my phone on purpose. Yeah, I didn’t want it to distract me from really appreciating the beauty of the world around us.”
“Yeah, the McDonalds down the road really does look beautiful in the daylight,” she quips.
“It’s the wonder of the golden arches,” you retort, pulling a genuine laugh from the woman.
“Well, then I’ll leave you to it,” she says. You dryly swallow, afraid that your chance at getting down from the tree will leave with her. She speaks up again. “But before I go, would you like me to send the message to Ola that somewhat reads ‘Stuck in a tree two blocks away help’?”
She smirks and you sigh at being caught. “Okay, truth is I’m deathly afraid of heights. I didn’t realize how high I actually was until I tried coming down.”
“Well, that’s okay. It is one of the most common fears,” she reasons.
“It’s embarrassing. I can’t even look at a plane without feeling nauseous.”
“Well, I think you’ve been doing well so far. Look how long you lasted up there while looking down towards me.” She points.
“That’s only because you’re a good distraction,” you confess.
She begins to climb up towards you. “Aww, are you trying to call me beautiful?”
You blush and don’t say anything though the silence speaks for you. She finally gets to you. “I’ll take that as a yes. Now, let’s get you down this tree, Robin Hood.”
“Robin Hood?” you question the nickname. “Is it because of the tree?”
“That. Also, the tights and green top pull it all together. We just need to get you a bow and some arrows and you’ll be set.” The irony at the fact that there are plenty of arrows and bows at your cousin’s house due to her husband’s profession isn’t lost on you. Unfortunately, any joke you could make about it would get you in trouble, so you just smile at the beauty trying to help you down.
She offers you her hand and helps you get down the tree branch to branch with all the patience in the world. Not once does she complain about the death grip you have on her hand. When your feet feel the ground beneath them, you feel like crying. Instead you just let go of the stranger’s hand and try to get your heartbeat to settle down to it’s regular pace.
“Not too bad, see? Soon you’ll be bungee jumping,” she jokes.
“That’s a big leap from getting down from a tree.”
“Well, yeah. It’s bungee jumping. Leaping is the first half of the process,” she says sarcastically. You roll your eyes at her playfully. Then she smiles at you with a gleam in her eye as if she just had the best idea in the world. “How about we start with something smaller then? What are you doing on Friday?”
“Um, I don’t have any plans yet.”
“Now you do. Friday night, you will be taking the next step to conquering your fear of heights!”
“It’s not bungee jumping, is it?” you ask, petrified. As beautiful as this girl may be, risking your life for the chance to see this girl one more time doesn’t seem like a well thought out trade.
“Calm down, Robin Hood. I was thinking more along the lines of getting you to ride the ferris wheel at the fair,” she reassures you, making you blush.
“Like on a date?” you shyly ask. God, you hope you didn’t just embarrass yourself.
“Like on a date.” She smiles at you and your heart feels like it’s skipping.
“Y/N.” You throw out. She looks lost so you explain, “Every Robin Hood has a name for when they aren’t up in trees ready to rob rich people. Mine happens to be Y/N.”
“Skye.” She offers her name and you take it so willingly, letting it ruminate in your mind. “Here.” She pulls your phone out of the pocket she had put it in. She goes to your contacts and adds herself in before handing it back to you. You stare down at it in wonder.
“Well, I think your friends might be waiting on you, so…” She begins walking backwards. “I’ll see you Friday, Y/N!”
She turns around looking both ways before jogging across the street towards her van. You see her pull into the street nodding at you before driving off. You wave back after the van, dumbstruck. “What the hell just happened?” You mumble to yourself.
****
“You know when you said I would be getting on the ferris wheel, I assumed you meant you would go on it with me,” you grumble, making your way over to Skye who was waiting for you by the exit gate of the ride.
She reaches for your hand pulling you closer to her. “Some things, you have to learn to do alone. You just have to let the belief that something great will come out of pushing through your fear guide you through that fear.”
“I don’t think any funnel cake we get later was worth that experience,” you pout.
“Okay, then how about this,” she says before pulling you in to kiss you. It doesn’t last long but you let it consume you for the seconds you have. You open your eyes when she continues, “and a second date?”
“Only if it ends just like that,” you counter. She kisses you again, the second kiss leaving you just as dazed as the first.
“Deal,” she agrees, pulling you towards the funnel cake truck. “Next date, Robin Hood takes on Six Flags!”
“Wait, what?!”

So, just a side little thing for some Reader and Daisy/Skye context before she eventually shows up in I Said No. It feels like I’m giving this reader a whole Universe. The world does in fact revolve around Y/N.
Obviously (or maybe not) I dropped some references to the other fic but really you could read either without needing to read the other (if it truly breaks your heart to see reader with anyone else).

Day 66: Bond
There was a certain bond that formed between two people when all of your friends were paired off and dating someone. When the two of you were the only single people so you got paired off to share food, and be partners in games, and all other manner of things.
Harry supposed that tonight would be just one more of those nights as he arrived at Ginny and Luna's. And he wasn't complaining (not anymore, at least) it had taken a couple of years but he and Draco had warmed up to each other. They had compatible styles for partner games, Draco always gave Harry any treats with nuts and Harry gave him any treats with mint, and Harry genuinely enjoyed his dry sense of humor.
If he was being honest, he'd started looking forward to all of the time that he got to spend with Draco on Friday nights.
But things felt different the moment he entered the house, even though he couldn't quite put his finger on why. He spotted Ginny first, standing against the counter, pouring a couple glasses of wine, "Hey," he called.
She looked up and bit her lip.
"What?" he asked with no small amount of dread. He knew that look; it was the look she'd given him right before she'd told him she might be gay and in love with Luna, a look that said she was afraid of breaking his heart.
Ginny opened her mouth but no words came out.
"Ginny, what?" he said, taking several steps toward her.
"I don't know how to say thi-"
"Oh, good," he heard Draco say from behind him, "You're here."
His mouth stretched into a grin even before he turned around "He-" he broke off when he saw that Draco was standing with his arm around some bloke who Harry had never met before. "Hey," he finished.
"This is Matt," Draco offered.
And frankly, Harry would rather die (again) than shake his hand but before he could have any say in the matter Matt had stepped forward into his space and was gripping his hand. Hard. "The Harry Potter," he drawled. "My, my."
(Read more below the cut)
Harry glanced over at Draco who looked vaguely uncomfortable.
"Draco has told me so much about you. I could hardly believe that he was telling the truth." He leaned toward Harry conspiratorially, "He's known for embellishing the truth, you know?"
Harry wrenched his hand from Matt's grip, "Actually, I've found Draco to be honest to a fault. Hardly anyone else will tell me when my outfit doesn't match or I've got something stuck in my teeth."
Matt's eyes flashed and Harry's proverbial hackles stood on end he didn't like that look, "I-" Matt started
"Hey," Draco said, taking Matt's hand and drawing his attention, "Let me introduce you to everyone else."
"Nice meeting you, Mark," Harry called.
Draco narrowed his eyes at him, "Matt," he corrected, before mouthing, 'behave' at Harry.
"My mistake," Harry said, maintaining eye contact with the other man until he turned away and followed Draco into the other room.
"Okay," Ginny said, drawing his attention away from them, "First. Men are disgusting; I can't believe I thought I was attracted to them for so long."
"What?" he asked, slumping over to the counter and sliding onto a stool across from where Ginny was still mixing up drinks. He was feeling a little nauseous, fire rushing under his skin.
"That," she said, gesturing to where Harry had been standing talking to Matt and Draco, "The little pissing match to decide who's dominant."
"What?" Harry asked, "that guy is just an asshole."
She rolled her eyes, "Second, you're still an idiot."
"Wow. I'm just going to go home," he said. "Between you and the dude who was trying to break my fingers, I don't think it's going to be a great night."
Ginny leaned across the counter and instinctively Harry leaned toward her, "How long are you going to continue denying you have feelings for Draco?"
His brow furrowed, "I don't. We're just mates," he added.
"I rest my case. You're still an idiot," she said as she leaned back and started mixing drinks again.
Harry slouched on his stool turning that thought over in his mind, "That actually would make sense," he admitted.
"Harry, I love you, you know I do," she said. "But honestly, I can't believe you're just figuring this out. The rest of us have known for ages. We were all shocked when he walked through the door with Matt; he told us he was bringing someone but we thought the two of you were just making a joke."
"Well now what am I supposed to do?" he asked. "Why couldn't anyone have said something sooner?"
"Because we thought it was obvious," she hissed.
"Let's just get through the night," he sighed. "Then we'll deal with the rest. We'll need to come up with a plan."
-----------
He spent the rest of the night calling Matt the wrong name (Miles, Maurice, Mike, Max, Moses, Mitch, Mason) to the point that Ron either caught on and decided to help or got confused enough that he started calling him the wrong name, too. Harry also couldn't help but rub it in Matt's face how much better he knew Draco; telling inside jokes, asking Draco specific questions about his work and his parents, and reminiscing about fond memories.
Draco seemed a bit exasperated by it but Harry couldn't help himself. Once he started, he just couldn't seem to stop.
Eventually as everyone was getting ready to leave and Luna was saying good bye to Matt, Draco cornered him, "Do not move a fucking muscle," he hissed, "I am not done with you."
"Dra-"
"I mean it, Potter. Stay right here," he said, jabbing him in the chest with his finger before he turned and made his way over to his date.
"Hey," Matt said, smiling at him much the way Harry imagined an alligator might smile at his prey.
"Hi," Draco replied softly. "I'll floo you tomorrow, yeah? There are a few things I need to take care of."
Matt frowned, "I thought we were going back to my place."
"No," Draco replied steadily. "I have a five date rule." He stepped back, "I'll floo you," he repeated.
And Matt looked pretty pissed about it, but he seemed to take the hint and disapparated on the spot without so much as a goodbye to anyone.
"You're all the literal worst," Draco fumed. "Except you, Luna," he added. "You're a goddess."
Luna gave a little curtsy.
"Seriously," Draco said, glaring at the room even though none of them looked especially repentant. "And you," he spat, spinning to glare at Harry, "You're the worst of all."
"Does that make me special?" Harry quipped, arms folded across his chest.
Draco groaned, "Bloody fucking Griffyndors. I hope you're all happy," he grabbed Harry's arm. "Come on we are going back to mine to have a chat."
"I thought you had a five date rule," Ginny called.
Draco flipped her the two finger salute before apparating them to his house.
Harry always liked being in Draco's house; it was small and cozy, and it always smelled vaguely like chamomile. Just being here made his soul feel lighter, calmer.
"Alright," Draco growled, "Spill. What the hell was that?"
"What?" Harry asked innocently.
"Potter," he warned.
Harry sighed, "He's an asshole."
"And you know that how? You didn't even give him a chance".
"Draco his handshake was like a vice!"
Draco stared at him, "You've got to be kidding me. Are you that much of a child? He hurt your hand so you thought you should bully him?"
"I didn't bully him!" Harry exclaimed.
"No?" Draco asked. "You didn't use his given name even once." Harry winced, maybe that was overkill. "You spent the entire night trying to make him feel stupid and inferior to you. Which, let's face it, everyone does anyway because you're Harry fucking Potter!" Draco exploded.
"That's not fair," Harry said, betrayal slicing hot through his gut. Draco knew that he hated being famous, hated the preconceived notions attached to his name.
"Yeah well, neither was what you did."
"Draco, I-"
"No," he said, holding out a hand, "That was such bullshit, Harry."
"But he's awful."
"You didn't even give him a cha-"
"I didn't have to!" he exploded. "The first words he said to me were to disrespect you. He's an asshole and I will chase a million of them away from you."
"That's not your job."
Harry threw his hands up in the air, "I'm your best friend! Whose job is it, if it's not mine?"
"You don't just get to decide things for me!" Draco cried.
"Fine," Harry spat. "You want to date that wanker, go ahead. But I have seen his type before. Don't come crying to me when he's beaten you to a bloody pulp for looking at someone the wrong way." He pushed past Draco and made his way to the door, walking out and slamming it behind him.
He started down the sidewalk, debating trying to figure out where Matt lived and have a chat or maybe go over to Ron and Hermione's to get some advice and regroup.
But the further he walked, the more the anger faded from his veins, and the guilt settled in.
There was no choice really, he turned around and headed back to Draco's house once more. When he arrived he knocked on the door even though he normally would have just let himself in.
"Go away!" Draco shouted.
He knocked again, "Draco, please."
"No! Go away. You're the worst."
"I know," he called back. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean that. Please."
After a few seconds, during which fear settled heaving in Harry's gut, the door opened and Harry slipped inside, Draco was curled up on the couch, hugging a pillow to his chest.
Seeing him looking so small and sad made Harry ache. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I shouldn't have said that."
"Which part?" Draco asked bitterly.
He sighed and came over to sit on the couch beside Draco, "I'm not sorry for chasing him away. But I will always be here for you, no matter what. You can always come to me."
Draco leaned over and put his head on Harry's shoulder, "I know," he whispered.
"Forgive me?"
He nodded and they sat together in silence for a few minutes, both trying to collect their thoughts. Eventually Harry said, "I really wish you wouldn't date him."
Draco sat up, "Harry look at me."
Harry turned on the couch to look at him and raised his eyebrows.
"I won't ever floo call him, we'll never go on another date, and I'll never see him again." Something eased in Harry's chest. "But it's not because of what you said or did. It's because I, too, have had shitty relationships. I have also lived through trauma and I have had to learn from it just like you."
Harry looked down at his hands.
"And if you have concerns about someone, there is a better way to tell me than what you did tonight."
He nodded, suitably chastised, "You're right."
"I appreciate your concern, though," he added and Harry looked up to see that Draco's mouth was quirked up, he really must be forgiven, apparently. "And I genuinely forgot how petty you can be."
He shook his head and reached out for Draco's hand, "Draco, I want you to be so, so happy," he said. Then he added, "I'm an idiot."
Draco raised an eyebrow.
"And everyone knows it, you included, so you can't really hold it against me," he said.
"I'm pretty sure I can."
He huffed, "Just hear me out. I'm an idiot and I didn't realize until tonight that I'm a little bit in love with you. And it's fine if you don't feel the same but you are my best friend and I had high standards for you even before I knew I had feelings for you. It hurt me to see you with someone who treated you so poorly."
"Sorry," Draco said, "I need you to repeat that."
"I said, I'm an idiot," Harry started.
"Not that part."
"It hurt me to see you with someone who treated y-"
"Not that part either," Draco said.
Harry swallowed, "It's fine if you don't fee-"
"Harry," he grumbled. "Say the other part."
He rubbed the back of his neck, "I'm in love with you," he whispered.
Draco blinked at him, a smile blooming at the corner of his mouth, "Say it again."
A grin tipped up the corners of his mouth as well, "I'm in love with you."
Draco launched himself into Harry's arms and covered Harry's lips with his own, "say it again," he mumbled into the kiss.
"I love you," Harry repeated, murmuring the words into Draco's mouth.
Draco pulled back slightly, "I love you, too."
"I hoped that was the case," Harry replied.
After he kissed him again, Draco said, "Alright, fine. Now you get a say in who I date."
Harry grinned, "Is that so?"
He nodded.
"Will you date me, Draco Malfoy?" he asked, brushing his nose along Draco's.
"Yes," he whispered. Then with a smirk he added, "But we'll have to get my best friend's approval and rumor has it that he has very high standards."

—
It’s his first day off in weeks, and he is taking full advantage of it. After such a stressful few months, he wants nothing more than to spend this short break with his girlfriend.
It’s two in the afternoon before he gets out of bed, and that’s only because the weak little grumbling in his stomach became too much to ignore. With no real food in the house, Y/N called in an order to their regular place, as long as he is the one who picks it up.
He decides to walk, since the restaurant is only a few blocks away from his home, but when he catches a couple paps trying to get pictures a little ways down the road, he knew he should have driven. He’s glad Y/N stayed home, since photos of her rarely get out, and he knows that she wouldn’t have been comfortable with it.
He sighs, trying to not let them ruin his first relaxing day in a while, but it’s hard. Harry likes his privacy, and sadly, he chose the wrong career. He would never say that he hates what he does. He loves being able to bring joy and kindness to people who really need it, even if it is just for a couple of minutes.
He just wishes he could have some more space and privacy and freedom to do his own thing. He wishes he could go out on his day off without being stopped or having people trying (and failing) to take a sneaky picture of him, which, again, is an absolute invasion of his privacy.
He would never snap at anyone, well, no one except the paparazzi, not only because he was taught early on that he shouldn’t do that, but also because he wasn’t that type of person. While he still may not be used to the significance of his stardom, he still understands that he is a role model to many people, and he needs to act as such.
“I have an order to pick up,” he says to the hostess, who just stares at him for a second, jaw dropped slightly. It’s not the usual woman who gives him his orders, so he gives her a moment. She bounces back rather quickly.
“Uh, what’s the name?” She asks, trying not to draw any unwanted attention toward him, which he appreciates.
“Y/N.”
She taps away at the register, tells him the total, and he pays.
“I’ll go check and see if your order’s done. If not, it should be just a couple of minutes.”
“No problem.” He smiles.
“Harry?”
He turns to see a nervous looking girl with a bright tee knotted around her middle and a pretty pearl necklace tight around her neck. She brushes a tuft of brown hair over her shoulder, fiddling with her fingers. She’s only a little shorter than him, but she still doesn’t meet his eye.
“C-could I get a picture?”
He honestly doesn’t want to.
He knows that one photo will lead to dozens more, and he just wants to get his food, go home, and cuddle up with Y/N, but she looks sweet, and the hopeful look in her eyes makes him cave.
“Sure,” he says weakly, taking a quick photo.
“How’s Y/N?” The girl asks when she puts her phone away, desperate for a little more time with him. A beaming smile takes over his features, and he sits on a stool at the bar, feet tucking behind the bottom bars. It’s not very often he gets asked about her, but whenever he does, he takes full advantage of it; that is, of course, if the person seems genuinely interested and not just asking him for the sake of conversation.
The public was a little less than understanding or supportive of their relationship when it was, forcibly, made known. Being friends and neighbors since childhood, Y/N has been a present figure in the early parts of his life. They grew further and further apart after he left for The X Factor, to the point where they didn’t even speak to each other. It was tough because she wanted absolutely nothing to do with the life that he led, and he couldn’t just give up everything he worked so hard toward.
They reconnected some years ago when he was visiting home, and she had a break from uni. It was a slow build to what it is today, mostly because Y/N was hesitant about everything that came with being with him, like distance between them, negative publicity, and, of course, his fans, but, as she always said, he made everything worth it.
When their relationship was leaked in the press, they had to prematurely address the rumors. Not that Harry is embarrassed or ashamed of her, quite the opposite, really, but he just had one too many relationships fall apart due to the pressure the media put on them. He didn’t want to put Y/N through that; he didn’t want to see her to realize that, perhaps, he wasn’t worth the negative attention.
“She’s great,” he says. “We’re gonna go hiking later this evening, hopefully get a good view of the sunset.”
“That’s nice,” she smiles, happy that he’s happy, and he breathes out a sigh of relief. It’s refreshing to meet someone who is actually
His smile fades when a girl behind him scoffs.
“That’s surprising.”
He wants to believe that she’s not commenting on his conversation, but he knows better than anyone that she’s listening in; hell, he could feel the eyes of everyone in the diner the second he stepped inside, but just because he’s been doing this for years doesn’t mean that he’s not immune to the voices and the stares. He’s gotten pretty good at being able to ignore them, and he tries his best to do the same with her.
The brunette, who also seems to have noticed the girl behind him, flushes red, pity apparent on her features. He gives her an uncomfortable, closed mouth smile, trying to focus back on their own conversation.
“I mean, have you seen her?” The girl behind him continues, laughing lightly.
It makes his chest ache, anger settling deep in his stomach, burning and vengeful. Never has anyone made such blatant comments about her; they normally say that sort of stuff behind the safety of a screen and certainly not right in front of him. He knows what people say about his love. They make negative comments every little thing about her, the biggest one being her weight, and he never says anything because Y/N thinks that it would make everything worse, but she’s not here to hold him back.
He turns to face the girls behind him. The one whose back is still facing toward him, leaned in close to the other, as though that’s enough to hide what she’s saying.
“I beg your pardon?”
They’re both young, but surely old enough to know better. One of the girls, with brown hair with a pink strip in the front, blanches when he catches her eye, an apologetic look on her face; she looks close to tears, even, stuttering hopelessly.
“Dee—”
“I didn’t expect him to be a chubby chaser.”
“Excuse me?”
The girl with bright red hair, Dee, he assumes, finally turns to face him, a shameless smirk on her face.
“I am so sorry,” the brunette begins, but her friend, fueled by desperation and spite, cocks her head to the side, chest puffing out beneath a “Treat People with Kindness” shirt, the rainbow colored words taunting him.
How ironic.
“I mean… am I wrong?” She asks, looking at him expectantly.
“How dare you?” He seethes, standing fully, towering over her seated figure. He knows he shouldn’t be giving her the slightest bit of attention. That’s exactly what she wants, to get a reaction out of him, and he’s playing into her game, but he honestly doesn’t care. A heated red paints his skin, trailing up from his neck to the tip of his nose. He can barely breathe, let alone speak clearly, frustration and anger choking him.
He struggles to find his voice, but when he does, he can’t stop them from spilling out, malice and disgust dripping with every word.
“I have never been so disappointed and ashamed in someone who claims to be a fan of mine. How can you wear that shirt while passing judgement on someone I love very much, who you have never seen or met? And I pray that you will never meet her because she doesn’t deserve such vile things being said about her.”
He turns to see the hostess with a large paper bag in a stunned silence, and he takes it from her wordlessly.
“I’m sorry,” he mutters to the sweet girl, ashamed that he snapped like he did, but she gives him a proud smile and moves, so he can leave.
—
Someone apparently recorded the encounter, and the video is trending on Twitter by the time he gets home. Jeff is the one who told him about it, sending him a link and a long message about how much of a PR nightmare it’s going to be. Especially when the reception is less than positive. While some think he was being too nice, others are saying that he shouldn’t have lashed out (their words, not his) at someone who is a fan and supports him, but Harry knows that there is no winning. Everyone always finds something to say about things that are clearly none of their business. He even saw a few comments about Y/N, how she should fight her own battles and not have Harry do them for her.
They make him feel nauseous.
“Hey, babe,” he says as he enters their apartment, Munchy, Y/N’s cat, weaving and purring between his legs. Whenever he gets home, he can feel the stresses of the day shrink to nothing, and he’s finally able to relax. A smile creeps over his face when he sees her, leaning against the counter with a mug of tea cupped in her hands. She hasn’t changed out of the boxers and the large yellow tee from that morning, but her hair is still wet from a shower, the scent of her fruity soap strong.
“Hey,” she says softly, and he leans in for a kiss, only for her to turn at the last moment, lips unfortunately pressing to her cheek. She takes the bag from him.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” she says, tugging the takeaway boxes from the bag, not even offering him a glance.
He knows that she’ll tell him what’s really wrong in her own due time, so he can’t push her; that makes it worse for everyone involved. However, he has gotten pretty good at coaxing it out of her. All it takes is a little patience and affection, and she’s putty in his hands.
He presses kisses to her temple, tracing his lips down the length of her tender skin to the shell of her ear, nibbling playfully. He dips his hand beneath her shirt, feeling her stomach tense beneath his touch. After such an exhausting day, he just wants to be with her, feel her warmth and love. He’s never really been able to find comfort or safety in any of his past lovers, and when he found that in Y/N, he never misses an opportunity to shower her with affection, teasing and biting at her skin. He just wants to melt and forget about his problems, to just be there, in the present, with her.
His little bubble is popped when she shoves his hand away, probably harder than she really meant to, but it hurts him, nonetheless. She turns and gives him a weak little smile, her eyes, glassy and unable to meet his gaze. She looks like a shell, nervous and empty, and he knows exactly why she’s acting the way she is. She must have seen the video and probably the nasty comments people left about her.
“Baby—”
“Let’s eat, yeah?” She changes the subject, pulling out some silverware from the drawer. “This one mine?”
“Yeah, your usual,” he says softly.
They eat in an awkward silence, old sitcom reruns playing in the background, tension thick in the air. He can’t focus on anything but her breaths, shaky and shallow with anxiety. He knows that this entire situation is weighing heavily on her mind, and he needs to get everything off his chest. He wants to pull her into his arms, stroke her hair, and tell her to not listen to anything anyone says, that she’s it for him.
It's going to happen, all in due time; he’ll get nowhere if he doesn’t go at her pace.
“You shouldn’t have done that,” she mutters suddenly, picking at her food. “Not that I don’t appreciate it, but I don’t want you putting your career at stake by standing up for me.”
He understands; he knows what it feels like to constantly be worried about what other people think, to have it impact every single decision you make. He’s mulled over everything he’s done for the past decade, but, at the same time, he’s her boyfriend first. He could honestly give a damn about his public image if it meant he had to stand by a listen to people say those nasty things about her.
“You would do the same for me,” he says, and she sighs.
“It’s not the same thing.”
“I don’t understand why we're arguing about this,” he says abruptly, placing his food onto the side table and turning fully toward her.
“I’m not—” She breathes out quickly, standing up. She tugs her clothes down, loosening them, and she crosses her arms, feeling vulnerable for some reason. Harry has never passed any judgement to her for the way she looked, knowing full well that she’s struggled with her weight her entire life, but this entire situation is making her feel insecure and weak and anxious. She feels like he is going to think that she’s being too sensitive about it, melodramatic about the severity of their comments.
“I’m not trying to start an argument. I just don’t think you understand that there’s going to be a lot of backlash for this.”
She’s embarrassed that he even needs to stand up for her. He should be with someone who is used to being in the spotlight, and, most importantly, he deserves to be able to go out with someone without people commenting or staring. He shouldn’t be with someone who makes people wonder why he’s with her, of all people.
It’s not only her physical appearance that people comment on; she’s seen fans talk about how Harry doesn’t go out anymore, how she is never present at any concerts or any other special events, even though they don’t know she has severe social anxiety and a career that keeps her from being with him all the time. She truly wishes she could be all of those things for him, but she can’t, and that’s what breaks her heart the most.
Harry deserves nothing less than the world, and he settled for her.
And with everyone else in the world questioning why he chose her, of all people, why wouldn’t he think the same?
“There would be even more backlash if I had just ignored it, right?”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” she says, “but, it’s not like it’s going to stop people from saying—”
She can’t even say it, their all too familiar words leaving a bitter taste in her mouth. No matter how many times Harry tells her to pay no mind to their comments, she can’t help it. She truly hates how much other people’s opinions about her impact her, with paralyzing fear and doubt filtering through her thoughts on a daily basis, but she can’t help it.
“Saying what?”
“You know,” she whimpers, eyes glassy. “No matter what you do, there will always be people who say that I don’t deserve you. There will always be people out there who think I’m ugly o-or too fat for you and—” She chokes on her words, tears finally breaking through. A weak sob leaves her lips, faint and broken. “It’s not like it’s not true, so there’s no point in fighting it if it’s going to ruin your reputation.”
She starts to pace, one hand tucking into the curve of her waist while the other pinches the bridge of her nose, feeling a headache forming.
“Whoa, hey, okay,” he stutters, standing. He holds onto her arms, hands rubbing over her cool skin, trying to comfort her, but she weakly pushes him away again, rubbing her nose. She pulls at the bottom of her shirt and wipes away her tears, leaving it wrinkled and wet. She sniffles, struggling to keep the panic from growing any further in her chest, heart racing painfully.
She moves into their bedroom, and he follows close behind, their food long forgotten as she tries to control her breathing.
“What’s this really about?” He asks. She pauses, her shoulders visibly sinking, and she sits on the foot of the bed, hooking her feet on the footboard. She cradles legs to her chest and tugs her shirt over them, forehead pressed against her knees.
She’s exhausted at this point. Ever since she saw the video and the comments, she’s been torn. She’s grateful that Harry said something; it made her hopeful that maybe it would make them stop, even if it was for only a day, but when she saw people actually defending the girl who said those terrible things about her, all of that pride was pulled away, leaving nothing behind other than debilitating anxiety and bone-chilling fear.
She just wants the day to be over, as if that will make everything go away.
She knows that they need to talk about it, but she’s afraid. She’s afraid of what this conversation could lead to; he could realize that he doesn’t want to deal with everything anymore or that he doesn’t want to deal with the strain that it puts on his relationship with the public.
The bed shifts as he kneels beside her, hand pressing against the small of her back.
“Y/N, please, don’t shut me out,” he whispers. She whimpers when he kisses her temple, an attempt at trying to ease her out of this miserable hole she’s dug for herself. She finally looks up at him with swollen, burning eyes, tears threatening to fall.
“I just don’t want you to wake up one day and realize that I’m not worth all of this. You shouldn’t even need to say anything to people.”
“You’re right. I shouldn’t have to say anything to them, but that has absolutely nothing to do with you. I have to say things because of all of the judgmental people in the world, who body shame the woman that I love, a woman who they know absolutely nothing about.”
“I don’t want you to start believing them, and I just don’t want you to regret me.”
“Why would I ever regret you?”
“Why wouldn’t you?” She snaps, her lips quivering. “I’m not like the others.”
“That’s what I love about you.”
“I’m not cut out for this,” she cries.
Hurt passes over his features, and the words die on his tongue. A pinch of fear starts in his stomach and spreads up to his heart, which races painfully, chills rushing through his spine.
“What are you saying?”
She doesn’t answer; she can’t. She didn’t mean for it to slip out. It’s usually just a passing thought when her insecurities come at full force. She’s never actually said it aloud, for fear of its repercussions. She doesn’t want to lose him. Even if she isn’t cut out for this sort of lifestyle, he is worth absolutely everything.
“Y/N,” he says, cupping her cheeks. He wipes away her tears with his thumbs, but more fall to replace the ones he tried to clear. He hates how much this has affected her, and he hates that it’s his fault, too. She holds onto his wrists, fingers trailing up and down his heated skin, from his calloused hands to his elbows, their gaze never breaking.
“I love you. Nothing anyone says will make me feel differently. Would you still love me if I gained a ton of weight or if I was just skin and bones?”
“Of course,” she says quickly.
“This is no different,” he smiles. “I do regret many things in my life. I regret some choices I’ve made, I regret things I’ve said, and I regret being selfish. But you?” He shakes his head. “You will never be one of my regrets. You are beautiful inside and out. You make me want to be better, you make me look forward to every new day, and you give me strength.”
Her heart swells at his words. Harry has always been a very emotive man when it came to her. He was never ashamed to let her know exactly how he felt, probably because of the years where he felt hopeless and couldn’t express himself fully. He leans in a little closer, his forehead resting against hers, and she can feel her worries tapering off with every shallow breath.
“My love, you have no idea what you do to me,” he whispers, rubbing his nose against hers. He brushes away her tears, leaving her skin sticky. “Not one fuckin’ clue about the nights where I wanted nothing more than to be just with you, to be able to see you and laugh with you. Remember the night before my audition? And I asked if I could kiss you because I’d never kissed anyone before, and I didn’t want to seem like an absolute dud.”
She nods.
She pondered over that night for years. He was rambling and nervous, but she didn’t hear anything after he asked if he could kiss her, her mind going completely blank. Of course, she said yes. She had a crush on him for years, how could she say no? Even if it was just once, if it was just one fleeting moment in her life, she held onto it with everything she could.
It was her first kiss, too, and she was so nervous with trembling hands and clammy skin. It seemed too good to be true: the boy she’s liked since as long as she could remember was going to kiss her; perhaps, there was hope for them after all.
When they pulled apart, his hair messy and cheeks rosy, she thought that he was going to kiss her again. From the look in his eyes, he seemed like he was completely enamored with her, at a loss for breath with a soft gaze, but he didn’t. Her mind was playing tricks on her because all he said was “thanks”, and he laid back down, on his side, not even facing her. The hope she felt was crushed. Then, he left the next morning, and they never spoke about it again. The memory of that night leaves her heart aching.
“Bullshit, all of it. I jus’ wanted to know how your lips would feel against mine, how soft and warm your body would feel. For months, I would think about that night, and I wished I could go back and tell you the truth, that I loved you. You have no idea how grateful I am to have you back in my life, to have you here, by my side, to hold and love.”
As she gazes into his eyes, she can feel the truth in his words, the dedication, and the pain, most of all.
He doesn’t want to lose her like he did all those years ago.
He felt the same during those years apart, hopelessly wandering into the arms of various lovers to try to replace what he felt for her. He’s spent nearly an entire decade, searching for that one person to fill the void in his heart that Y/N claimed when they were just kids, much like she had with him. He yearned for a person, who would support and loyalty him just as she had, but they never cared as deeply as he did, nor did they feel and love just as strongly as he did.
“I love you for everything you are, not just your heart or your mind but also your beautiful body, babylove. Don’t let anyone tell you any differently.”
His lips tease over hers, just barely touching before she finally catches his lips after such a painstakingly long moment of silence after his confession, and they both are overwhelmed with the feeling of absolute relief, like they’re finally able to breathe.
He guides her onto her back, his knee nestling between her legs, blue sheets bunched up around her waist. He gently eases his hand below her shirt, fingers faint on the soft and pliant skin. She combs her nails through his hair, scratching and teasing. Her body alive and heated beneath his touch, they melt into each other, forgetting everything wrong with the world and focusing solely on each other, the pinch of teeth biting lips and the rush of chills down her spine. He feels up her thighs, tender touch on her soft skin, but she pulls away from him, fingers still latched in his hair, hesitation clear on her features.
“Please,” he whispers. “Jus’ wanna make you feel good.” He kisses her beneath the curve of her jaw, the warmth of his breath leaving her heart racing. “Wanna make you feel loved, make you feel as beautiful as you are.”
There’s not many things Harry can find safety with. Since his life in the public eye, he’s had to make a lot of sacrifices. It’s difficult to find considerate strangers, safe refuges, and genuine friends, but he knows that he can always find solace with her, in their home, together, blanketed in warmth and tangled up in blue.

The morning that Calum had gotten the call from his mother that his grandma had passed away, he had ended up in the cafe you worked at. A blank, emotionless expression with a muttered ‘thank you’ was Calum’s first impressions with the baristas there, assuming they probably thought of him as an asshole following that.
Calum became a regular of the cafe though, realizing it wasn’t like the typical cafes he and his friends would frequent. No one knew him, he could be a nobody here. He didn’t have to have his friends look at him with sympathetic eyes while he mourned the loss of the biggest supporter in his life. His grandmother never questioned when Calum wanted to drop out of school to be in a band, nor did she ever bat an eye when that band never made it off the ground, leaving him working temp jobs just to get by.
He was able to make it out for his grandmother's funeral, being around his family easing his grieving in the slightest bit. Calum wasn’t often able to see his grandmother, both of their schedules never really matching up other than the typical family holidays, and the fact that he lived in California, and her in Australia; but she always called him on his birthday to let him know how much she loved him.
It came as a shock to him when he received mail from his grandmother’s estate, letting him know that his grandmother had left him a ridiculous amount of money, quite possibly her entire fortune from throughout her life- he of course had no way of knowing, maybe she was that filthy rich and she never let any of them know. What had she left to his mother? His sister? Calum supposed reading the letter would answer some questions for him, but he instead stood there, at a loss for words with the letter in hand, unable to bring himself to open it.
Calum decided he’d need coffee to process this information further, maybe delay him opening the letter just a little bit. He ended up not too long after that at his usual table in the cafe, giving a tight smile to the baristas who were working that day. Turning the letter over and over in his hands, he jumped when someone had appeared beside him with a coffee and baked good.
“Sorry to bother you, you just hadn’t come to order yet, so we thought we’d bring it to you. You seemed a little lost in thought,” You spoke softly, the mans’ warm brown eyes gazing up at you, slightly glassy and distant.
“Oh, uh… Yeah, sorry. But thank you, I really appreciate it. D’you mind if I come up to pay shortly?”
“Don’t worry about it,” You said, placing a hand on his shoulder, “We’ve got you covered.”
The small gesture made Calum’s chest warm, a genuine smile appearing on his lips before you turned away. Something about you made him pause; he had noticed you before, sure, but normally you were more bubbly. You seemed sad today, and he briefly wondered if there was just a dark cloud hanging over the rest of the world like it was for him, or if his most recent loss was just making him bitter towards everything.
Turning his attention back to the letter in his hands, the feeling of the paper was making his skin hot, and uncomfortably so. It was time to rip the bandaid off, so to speak, and open it. What could possibly be wrong with the letter? Or the money? Had his grandmother been the leader of a drug ring, and Calum had somehow inherited that title? A million thoughts raced through his mind while he broke the seal, his breathing quick.
His grandmothers writing filled the page, causing his eyes to water a little just due to the fact that she had written this herself. She had meant for him to get this. Calum’s eyes scanned the words, tears fully forming as he really read them.
‘Calum,
If you’re reading this, it means I’ve gone - though I’m sure you’re aware of that. If you’re not well… Shit, sorry to tell you my love.’
He had to pause his reading to chuckle, wiping the tears away from his eyes as he did so.
‘Because you’re a sweet boy, I know you’re already wondering why. Why did I leave all of this to you? What about your mum and Mali? Don’t fret, they will not be left empty handed. This money, this is all for you. I want you to go and live your dreams, my sweet. I’ve always believed in you, in your talents; you’re a hard working young man with big dreams. Take this money and do something amazing with it, take a trip. Take all your friends on a trip for all I care, the main thing I want from this is for you to be happy.
I love you, be well. I’ll miss you.
Gran’
Calum sniffled quietly, once again wiping at his eyes when he had finished reading. She had been gone less than a month, but the month had felt so long; Calum forgot briefly that she was gone, and gave her a call on her birthday, only to find that someone had already disconnected her phone. That had been a rough day in particular for him.
Finishing his coffee in silence, he tuned into the conversations around him, picking up on one in particular coming from behind the bar. The barista who had previously brought him his coffee leaning against the counter, talking quietly to her coworker.
“It doesn’t make sense… they’re busier than ever, I don’t get why they let me go. They had even said it wasn’t a performance based termination…”
Calum frowned, trying not to eavesdrop, but she continued on with her words.
“That was literally my only way to finally make ends meet. My student loans are ridiculous, my landlord is an asshole and keeps raising the rent,” The woman sighed, “I gotta find another job. Or marry rich.” The last part of her sentence was said with a half-hearted laugh, no hope in her voice at all.
A thought occurred to Calum then, the words in his Gran’s letter ringing through his ears, “Take your friends on a trip for all I care.” Well, his friends didn’t need any sort of vacation, choosing to live it up whenever and wherever they could; but this young woman, she could really benefit from money like this. Also there was a hefty chance that the entirety of her student loan would hardly make a dent in his inheritance, which made him nauseous to even think about.
He couldn’t think about it for too much longer, or he’d chicken out, so he made his way up to the counter, both baristas turning their attention to him. “Something wrong, sir?” The second barista asked, but Calum’s eyes nervously remained on the first.
“I have an offer for you. I heard your situation and I’d like to help, if you’d let me.”
The first barista clicked her teeth, leaning on her elbows on the counter so they were inches away from each other, “No offence man, but I’m not about to smuggle kilos of cocaine up my lady bits to pay off my college fees.”
Calum was a bit taken aback by her comment, letting out the first genuine laugh he had since his Gran had passed, “What? God, no! Listen. I wanna pay off your student loans.”
“What’s in it for you?” She had cut him off, but he couldn’t blame her for being suspicious. He would be too if a random person approached him offering to pay his debts.
“Nothing. I don’t want anything in return, I swear.” Calum paused, “Well… Maybe one thing.”
She cocked her head to the side, encouraging him to continue, and he did. “Maybe just someone to talk to? M’not a fan of feeling vulnerable in front of my friends, but you both have seen me cry in the middle of this cafe, so…”
Pulling back from the counter, she tossed a glance over her shoulder to the second barista, who was quick to leave the two of them alone. Calum assumed she would be filled in of the details later anyways, so her being shooed away didn’t make him feel guilty.
“Okay.. What? Are you some kind of lonely sugar daddy? Surely you’re too young to be so lonely.”
Calum shook his head, letting out a sound of exasperation, but the smile remained on his lips, “I don’t know if you can tell, but I have no idea what I’m doing. I almost never do.” Pulling out the letter and setting it onto the counter, “My Gran passed away recently, and she left me quite a bit of inheritance; I have a strong suspicion that your student loans won’t hardly make a dent in the number, so let me help you. In exchange for a friend.”
The girl thought for a moment, meeting his eyes to sense any deception. “Can I think about it? Also, that does kinda make you a sugar daddy. You’re paying for me to keep you company.”
“Take your time; also if I’m a sugar daddy and you say yes, that’ll make you my baby.” With a final wink tossed her direction, he headed out of the cafe to go back to his apartment.
Calum returned the next day, hoping that he would find her working once again, his chest deflating a little when she wasn’t. The second barista from the day before was working though, her eyes landing on him the second he came through the door.
“She’s sick today… Said she must’ve come down with the flu or somethin’.”
Calum nodded in acknowledgment, heading over to take a seat in his usual spot. His plan to convince her was potentially out the window now, quite possible she would be avoiding coming to work because he weirded her out. He had formed a whole plan, too, he was prepared to pay off her tuition, as well as a few months of her rent… Though he was prepared to pay for far more than a few months of her rent, he was sure that she wouldn’t let him unless she became really desperate.
Why was he so dead set on helping her? Was it because she was beautiful? Maybe, but she seemed more than that. The way she never judged the moods he was in, simply gave him his coffee with a smile, most days him returning the gesture; or maybe it was the small fact that yesterday she noticed he wasn’t himself, so she had bought him coffee in a small hope of brightening his spirits.
His phone buzzing on the table took his attention away from his thoughts, brows furrowing at the request for an AirDrop. Calum accepted hesitantly, opening the phone to see that the first baristas contact information had been sent to him. Looking over his shoulder, he laughed lightly at her friend from the day before staring him down, waving his hand in a thanks.
He clicked to send you a message, pausing before typing out, “Hey, it’s Cal. The weirdo wannabe sugar daddy from the cafe? Your coworker/friend(?) Gave me your number. Think she wants you to take my offer if you ask me.”
It was a few minutes until the three dots appeared, quickly disappearing and reappearing several times before he actually received a reply, “Yeah, definitely seems like it. I don’t wanna infect you with whatever I’ve come down with, but I’d like to discuss terms.”
“We can do that, I’m also not terribly concerned about getting sick. Send me your address.”
“Serial killer. Here.”
The message that followed was her address, and Calum placed an order at his favourite restaurant for soup before he turned to ask her friend if there was anything she liked to drink when she was sick.
After another thirty minutes of picking up random things on his journey, he finally arrived at her door, biting his lip to hold back a laugh when she answered wrapped in a blanket.
“Welcome to hell… Or. I dunno, it’s not hell cause it’s fuckin’ freezing. Hurry up and get inside before you let the cold air in.”
Calum squinted, a small smirk tugging at his lips, “Doll, it’s nearing June in Los Angeles, there’s not a draft anywhere in sight, unless you’re talking about a cold beer.”
“Did you come here to talk about terms, or to make fun of me?” She said with a pout, curling up onto her couch.
“Actually, I’ve brought you some soup and crackers, and also have come to discuss terms… and make fun of you. You’ve gotten a three for one deal here, darlin’.” Calum grinned, placing the bag on the table in front of her, her pout only getting worse.
“Fine. Only because you brought me soup.”
Calum rolled his eyes, helping her to get settled sitting up so she could eat her soup. Something about the silence that fell between them while she ate wasn’t uncomfortable, but rather welcome. It had been a long time since Calum was able to feel comfortable sitting in silence with someone, and it made him relax a bit into her couch.
“Okay so terms,” she started, setting the last of the soup down to turn towards Calum, “No sex. If that’s what you’re expecting, I’m 100% out. Not because you’re not attractive, but I don’t know if I’m personally cut out for the sex work business.”
Calum nodded, letting her continue on. “And I want to be able to stop whenever I’d like. I don’t want some sort of fixed term contract like m’buying a phone. Honestly I can’t think of anything more than that. What did you have in mind?”
Turning towards her as well, Calum rested his elbow on his leg, chin in his hand while he looked at her. “I wasn’t expecting much, if I’m honest. I just want someone to spend time with. The dating pool is slim, and I’m not particularly lookin’ for a girlfriend, so having someone to kinda bitch to after a hard day is what I was hoping for. And I’d want to hear about your day too. What annoyed you the most, what was the best part of your day, things to take my mind off everyday life.”
She looked at him for a long moment, and Calum frowned in response thinking she was going to say no. It wouldn’t affect him terribly if she had, but it would certainly mean he could never go back to that same coffee shop again.
“Why me?” She finally said, pulling the blanket down so it was pooled at her waist now. “Why do you want to spend your money on me?”
“Like I told you yesterday, this money was inheritance. My Gran told me to take my friends on vacation, or to do something fun with it; but in all honesty I’d rather do something useful with it, like helping someone else. You seemed like you could use it, and from what I can tell you’ve never been anything but kind to me - so, you. That’s why you, because you deserve a break.”
Her eyes had moved from Calum’s down to the floor, her breathing uneven, “Okay.”
“Okay?” “Yes, okay. As long as you agree to my terms,” Lifting her head, Calum could see that her eyes were glassy, as if she had been trying to hold back tears when he spoke.
“I agree to your terms. What costs shall we tackle first, baby?” His teasing tone earned him a pillow to the head, a stream of giggles falling from her lips.
“Another term - don’t call me baby.”
“Mmm, that one may have to be an agree to disagree there, baby.”

When your enemy Beomgyu sees you storm out of a Christmas party, he decides to bring you a nice cup of hot chocolate.
჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ჻
Pairing: Beomgyu x Reader (female)
Genre: Like a ton of fluff and 3 teaspoons of angst !
Warnings: Um, a bit of tension (yk that type)
Song: Santa Tell Me
(Sorry for not uploading in so long! I didn’t edit this either since I’ve been busy with school, lessons, and my drawing account on insta. Also, can it please be winter? I’ve been waiting for the cozy spirit :(( -)
჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ჻
Why did you agree to this? Why didn’t you stay at home with your soft teddy bears, cuddled under the cozy blanket that you set up just for the Christmas season? Why did peer pressure have to sock you in your stomach just for you to agree?
You instantly rolled your eyes, glancing hesitantly around at the clingy couples who were making out next to the punch table where you actually wanted to go to fetch some food. Damn, couldn’t you just grab a drink and leave? As well as some chicken wings, but that wasn’t the point.
More than anything you desired at the moment, you wanted to leave this party. The white fairy lights were a bit tacky for your liking, the tinsel was a disgusting shade of mustard green, and the fake Christmas tree was too luminous that it probably out-sparkled the Miss Santa Claus out of her misery. Hell, it sounded so petty but all the more reason to complain!
One of your friends had convinced you to come with her because she stated that she was going to be alone, but here she was singing at the stage of the party while flirting with one of the seemingly cutest boys in campus, Choi Beomgyu.
They were both singing in complete harmony, and it would’ve sounded beautiful to you if you didn’t desperately wanted to leave.
Of course, you needed to stay there for her. She had been there for you through the rough times, picking you up when you needed someone. You were supposed to be concentrating on her, right? For feedback? It’s not as if you were only gazing at how absolutely charming her stage partner looked under that soft, golden spotlight.
He noticed that you were staring at him, and discreetly winked before looking into her smitten eyes again.
Wait... what was that? You’re blushing...?
You immediately slapped yourself on the forehead for becoming wrapped up in those breathtaking, chocolate eyes.
What’s wrong with you?! For crying out loud, your best friend likes him! Every girl did, but you couldn’t especially because you couldn’t betray her like that. You can’t just have a thing for someone like Beomgyu when he’s a player, someone your mother warned you about years and years before!
You decided to head over to the open corner of the place where no one could bother you when you were stopped by someone who had laid their hand on your shoulder. Turning around, you felt your heart pick up when you realized that it was your old crush from the broken down library next door.
He had always been there to talk to you whenever you were bored, and through that way, you had found out that you had a lot of the same interests. Although you wanted to get closer, he had to move away to a different neighborhood and couldn’t go to the library anymore since it was too far away. You were disheartened by it since you liked him a lot; he was so perfect... for someone like you.
“Y/N? That’s you, right? I haven’t seen you in a long time, and you look extremely gorgeous!” He pulled you into a warm embrace, and you nuzzled your cheeks against his chest, taking notice of how tall he had become over a hot summer.
His features had become more defined in a year and being a young adult now, you could feel how muscular he had become. Gone was the Soobin with the high pitched voice, and here was the tall Soobin with a soft aura that had girls all over the campus begging on their knees to have a chance with him.
The question is, did you still like him? You didn’t know how to feel since you kinda- only kinda had a thing for Beomgyu, but he was most likely occupied with a lot of girls hanging off his legs. Perhaps you needed to move on fast, though you couldn’t do it by using Soobin just to feel butterflies like you did before.
Although... you should have some fun, huh?
“Soobders, I haven’t seen you in a long year! I didn’t realize you had classes here.” You kept the both of your hands intertwined together, not noticing that Beomgyu who had stopped singing Christmas carols was burning holes into Soobin’s back.
Soobin shyly scratched the back of his neck, his eye smile peeking out with his adorable, little grin when you returned the gesture. “I missed you a lot too, if you were wondering. I was surprised when I saw you making your way in my direction. Your hair has grown a lot since the last time I saw you, and as I said before, you’re absolutely stunning.”
Just like that, the fluttering sensation in your stomach had swiftly come back, and you wanted to throw up from how violently they were shaking. He knew your heart was going to pound, yet he still did it. Wow, how you were still whipped for Choi Soobin.
You giggled softly, quickly shaking your head at his audacity. “You must be kidding. I would’ve put more effort to look the word stunning. But thank you! I appreciate the effort of trying to make me feel better.”
The boy chuckled quietly, steadily bringing you closer to him if that was possible. You made a realization that he was flirting with you and stood paralyzed in your spot, becoming shy at how bold he was now.
“What are you talking about? You’re always stunning, both inside and out.”
He started to lean in and you closed your eyes, feeling his sweet breath tickle the edge of your lips. He was going to kiss you, but you weren’t complaining as you wanted to move on for a long time already.
This must’ve been a sign that he was the one because you were almost there, almost there to his cherry blossom tinted lips when-
“Um, excuse me? May I have your attention?” You heard your best friend’s voice ring throughout your ears and you reluctantly pulled away from Soobin’s grasp.
The both of you looked onto the stage, your eyes darting to a moody Beomgyu who was sitting on the stacked milk carts with a deep frown engraved on his face. It was strange as to why he wasn’t enjoying himself, and you wanted to ask him but the only thing that was stopping you from going there was Soobin.
Your best friend laughed into the microphone and you grinned, loving how happy she looked. The only thing that caught your eye though, was that she pulled up Beomgyu with her before swaying her hips in rhythm with the music. You couldn’t recall if it was a Christmas song since you were too distracted in the way their faces were too close.
Beomgyu was smirking and he spoke into the microphone, the usual tone of his being smug.
“You’re being naughty, tsk tsk. Should I punish you?”
The girls in the crowd whined, while you raised an eyebrow, letting out a moan at how ridiculous he was sounding. And he really thought that he sounded irresistible when he said that? You could only laugh even though in the back of your mind was screaming for more.
Her mouth widened and she snickered, her arms wrapping around his neck in pleasant surprise.
“Oh, um okay? That’s a bit bold coming from you, sir~”
Ew...? You wanted to gag from how disgustingly “sweet” they were with each other. At this point, why don’t they just make out alone if they’re going to be like this?
Attention snapping back to them, you could see that they were going to kiss if you didn’t look away from the sight. You weren’t jealous or anything like that, it’s definitely because you didn’t want to see them suck each others’ lips out, right?
Tapping Soobin’s shoulder, you felt the need to get out of there. “I’m going to step out, okay? I feel nauseous. Don’t come after me.”
You didn’t give him a chance to say anything in protest as you sprinted through the crowd, easily forgetting your jacket that hung on the hanger next to the stage.
჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ༉ ༘჻ღཾཿ჻
Obviously it was freezing outside, and you internally cursed at yourself for not wearing more layers. You made a mental note to wear something warmer if you ever went to a party like this again.
Sitting down on the edge of the bench, you thought deeply of how happy the two of them were together when they were about to kiss.
You felt bummed out that you didn’t have a chance with Beomgyu because you really liked him. Sure, he was a player and wasn’t really the best whenever you asked something, but he always compensated it by being supportive and always protective of you when you felt uncomfortable. He was special, someone that couldn’t be a player no matter how much you wrapped your head around it.
“Y/N? You look stupid sitting like an idiot there. I guess I just have to sit with you to make you feel better.”
He plopped right down beside you and you nodded, instead feeling utter disappointment at yourself in the way that you handled things with Soobin. He was being kind to you, and all you wanted to do was use him when you weren’t feeling well about the possibility of a relationship.
It was a few moments when Beomgyu spoke up again.
"Hey, but on a serious note, are you feeling well? Soobin asked me if I saw you since he said that you were feeling nauseous.”
You scoffed breathlessly, turning away from his reassuring smirk that spread across his cherry colored lips. “Will you stop acting like you care, Gyu? I know you hate me, but you don’t need to rub it in like...” You looked back at him, glancing at his innocent, honeyed eyes that seemed genuinely worried. It was probably a fragment of your imagination, and you groaned inaudibly before slumping back into your seat. “-that.”
He inched closer to you, his mouth already formed into a straight line at your accusation. It was actually the complete opposite, but he guessed you didn’t want to admit it.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that you were rubbing your arms with your icy hands, uselessly trying to warm up your frigid body. He chuckled and shook his head, softly smiling at how adorable you were in your get-up.
He hadn’t seen you like this before, but he loved the way you looked in that dress. It seem perfectly made for you, yet there was something else that had caught his attention when he first walked in. Your beauty had outshone even the most popular girl there, and he swore his heart beat faster than any other embarrassing moment he experienced at campus.
The only thing he was not a fan about was how almost every boy stared down whenever you walked on by, swaying your hips. Did you even know how much seductiveness you were oozing? He was tired of the gazes they sent your way, becoming all the more protective when he saw Soobin hug you.
“You’re cold, huh? Don’t try to hide it; I already know.”
He shook off his beige coat, generously covering your bare shoulders with the overwhelming warmth of his body. His cozy cologne had wafted its way to your nose, and you sunk back into his chest, not having a care in the world to give a crap.
The boy softly chuckled and immediately tangled his fingers through your hair, gently running them through your locks. “I brought you a cup of hot chocolate from earlier, but I guess it’s too cold now.”
Both Soobin and your best friend must’ve been worried, but you knew that he would tell them that you were doing fine once this party is over.
You closed your eyes, and with that traveled to the most sweetest at dreams, the last thought of yours being Beomgyu as he held you near his tranquil heart beat.
Realizing that you weren’t going to get up for a while, he bent down and tenderly kissed the top of your forehead, adoring the way you fell asleep in his arms. He wondered if he was going to tell you about his feelings later when he dropped you home, but it didn’t matter now when he looked at your fluttering eyelashes.
Everything was going to be okay, as long as you were warm as a cup of hot chocolate under his embrace that would protect you forever.

Thank you everyone for your support as well, it makes me so happy and I love all of you! 🥺
───────────────────────────────────
You were woken up by the noise of your hotel door being slammed open and Denki yelling, “NO FUCKING WAY!” at the top of his lungs. You grumble, your head already hurt enough you didn’t need him making it worse. Besides being woken up like that is not a fun time. You wanted to stay in this oddly warm hotel bed longer. These blankets really made you feel like you were asleep with someone. Someone who smelled a lot like Shinsou. Huh, weird, why is that – OH MY GOD.
You both make eye contact at the same time, your faces both instantly getting red and your eyes wide. Before you can ask him what the hell happened, a look of panic flashes across his face before he genuinely sprints to the bathroom, the alcohol he ingested finding its way out of his body. You groan, the sound is making you feel a little nauseous, but you can hold in there. You just have a killer headache. “Woah, I’ve never seen him this hungover before,” Denki says to himself, slowly closing the door to give Shinsou some privacy while he faces the consequences of his actions. You groan, turning to look at Denki. He’s also hungover, and he definitely ran here after just leaping out of bed. “What do you want.”
You’re being blunt. You’re not in the mood. You just wanted to sleep, your head hurt, and your bed was cold now. “You, (Y/f/n) and Hitoshi Shinsou slept in the same bed together!” he exclaims, and, finally, Mina stirs. How she is such a heavy sleeper is beyond you. “Yeah. We were drunk, he probably just like, passed out or something,” you mumble, pulling the covers over your head when Mina clinks the bedside lamp on. Light hurt you. “Denki? When did you get here?” Mina asks, very confused and you groan. “He literally ran in here and screamed how the hell did you not hear him?”
“Because I was asleep.”
“Oh, my god.” You hear the bathroom door open, and then Denki says, “Oh, good to know you’re still alive.” Shinsou just grunts in response, sitting on the edge of your bed. “I should probably go back to our room. I feel like shit,” he mumbles, leaning over to rest his head in hihs hands. “No, actually, you just stay here. Mina and I made plans last night over text to go buy some designer clothes and clear out our bank accounts because we are young, dumb, and like designer clothes,” Denki says, and Mina, albeit also hungover, understands immediately that Denki is trying as hard as he possibly can to ensure that the two of you stay in the same room. Shinsou sighs. “Whatever. I can’t just stay in Mina and (Y/n)’s room, I’ll just–”
“Of course, you can!” Mina jumps in, popping out of bed and grabbing some clothes from her suitcase. Even though the chances were she and Denki would go to his room and recover before actually going shopping, she had to A) make it convincing that they were leaving and B) grab clothes for when they actually went. “You can take my bed! Or, you could just stay in bed with (Y/n). I mean, her bed is closer to the bathroom so you’d probably wanna stay there,” she suggests, and he grumbles. Before he can protest again, he feels your knee lightly hit his back. He pauses for a moment, but Mina and Denki take the pause as him agreeing. “Okay, cool! Great! We’ll see you two when y’all aren’t zombies! The medicine is in the bathroom, you should both take it!” With that, Denki and Mina rush out of the door and Shinsou sighs. He stands, wandering over to Mina’s bed before he’s stopped by your voice. “Shin, just stay in this bed. Like Mina said, it’s closer to the bathroom. And we shared it last night, it’s not a big deal.”
Oh, if only you knew what that just did to his heart. He absolutely doesn’t say no to you, and crawls under the covers immediately. He buries his head into the pillow as he feels you shift around to turn the lamp Mina turned on off. “No more light.”
“Thank fucking god,” he says, and you let out a small snort. “I’m sorry, I didn’t force you to take medicine last night apparently,” you mumble, and he sighs. “I must have forced you. You seem to be doing better than me.”
“Only by like 5%. Maybe. I’ll go grab the medicine and get us some water, that’s supposed to help,” you say, slowly getting out of bed. Unfortunately, the medicine he gave you didn’t work as well as you’d hoped. As soon as you stood up, you were immediately nauseous. Now it was your turn to sprint to the bathroom. Shinsou, being the gentleman he is, rushed in after you, instantly beginning to rub your back and make sure you were okay as you threw up. As much as his body wanted to also do what you were doing, somehow his care and worry for you cancelled it out. As long as he focused completely on you, everything would be okay. After you were done, he filled a cup of water, handing it to you to drink. “Maybe we should wait to take the medicine so we know it will actually stay down,” he suggests, sitting on the bathroom floor next to you. You nod. “I want to go back to bed, but I do not want to move from this spot,” you sigh, resting your head on the toilet seat. He stands, fighting off the nausea, and goes and grabs the blankets the two of you were bundled in last night. He brings them back, plopping down next to you and wrapping them around both of you. You find yourself melting into him, seeking out the warmth his body radiates as well as the comfort he never fails to give you. He wraps his arm around your body, humming as he pulls you against the wall so you’re both propped up in a more comfortable position. “Thank you,” you whisper, and he shrugs. “Anything for you,” he mumbles, quiet enough so only he could hear what he actually said. You just heard some type of grumble.
Before you know it, you both doze off in that position, only waking up every so often to face the downside of too much alcohol. You were both woken up at seven in the morning. It’s now nearing eleven in the morning. Luckily, the both of you were feeling a bit better. You both took medicine, thoroughly rinsed your mouths with mouthwash and water, and ventured back to your bed, but still kept the lights off. You laid down and found yourself gravitating toward Shinsou again. He complied almost instantly, opening his arms as soon as he felt like he was in a comfortable enough position to doze off while still having you in his arms.
He knows this is strange. He knows that two friends shouldn’t be holding each other after a night of drinking. But it’s you. Even if the two of you are just friends, he would do literally anything for you. He just didn’t want to admit it. Sadly, though, you’ve caught on to it just as well as he has. “What are we doing?” he hears you mumble, and he shrugs. “Seeking comfort in a desperate time?” he suggests, and you feel yourself smile. But, no. As much as that could be an answer, that wasn’t why the two of you were so attached to each other. “Seriously, Shinsou. What’s going on with this?”
He pauses. How does he answer. He can’t come out and tell you how he really feels, can he? I mean, yeah, he likes you. He’s known for a while. But he knows how much you hate relationships. He knows your last boyfriend hurt you, of course he doesn’t know exactly how but knowing that you were hurt is enough. And listening to your songs, he can piece together just how bad of a person this guy was.
And yeah, you like him. A lot. But you couldn’t deal with another heartbreak. You really couldn’t, truly you think you’d rather die. But every time you tried to stop thinking about him, he flooded your thoughts again. And every time you talked yourself out of wanting him, the next moment you talked to him you wanted him all over again. The connection the two of you had was a weird one. And you’d be lying if you said you didn’t find everything about him attractive. “I… I really don’t know. I just… can’t get enough of you,” he answers, quietly, but truthfully. You shift around so you can look at him. He bites his lip, and you purse yours. “Can’t get enough of me, huh?” you tease, and he smiles softly. “I don’t want to ruin what we have,” he really doesn’t. But truthfully, he should face the rejection now and move on with his life later than fall even more for you, “but I have to say, (Y/n). I’ve never met someone quite like you. I mean, your talent, your personality, your… everything. It’s… very addicting and honestly, I just can’t get enough of you. Even right now. There are some things I would love to do with you right now,” he says, his eyes darting to your lips. He wonders what it would be like to kiss you. Of course, this isn’t the first time he’s wondered. He has actually wondered quite a lot. Funny, he tried to push all those thoughts away but right now, he knows he can’t do that anymore.
“Hmmm,” you make a noise, your face contorting into your thinking face. He knows that face pretty well now. He sees it a lot. When you’re writing lyrics, when Mina asks a question, when you’re trying to figure out what chord progression to use in this new song you wrote, a bunch of different situations. And even though he thinks it’s adorable, his heart is beating way too fast with anxiety. He doesn’t expect you to want him back, he just hopes your friendship isn’t fucked. You’re quite literally, one of the best things that has ever happened to him. “Well, this is a predicament,” you mumble, and he raises an eyebrow. “Huh?” He’s confused. What do you mean by–
“I’m supposed to be the resident relationship hater and here I am, liking someone. A lot. This is a predicament. But it’s a predicament I am willing to live with.” He stares at you for a moment. Did you just… confess back…? “You mean…?”
“We can… have something between us. Under two conditions.”
“What conditions?” He’s way too eager to have whatever this is between you two continue, and he knows it. But he can’t help it. The things you do to him just aren’t fair. “We don’t put a label on it or tell anyone, no one else needs to know, especially Mina and Denki because then we wouldn’t hear the end of it.”
“Agreed.”
“And… no falling in love with each other. Okay? Just… a strong attraction towards each other, yeah?”
No falling in love. He should have seen that one coming. That will be… difficult, to say the least. But he understands where you’re coming from. He doesn’t want to fall in love either. That means another person to worry about, and call him selfish, but he really just… couldn’t handle that. He already had to worry about his mom every day. Adding you to that would be unfair to all parties involved. He nods. “Yeah.”
“Okay. Okay, cool.”
“Yep.”
“Sweet.”
“Question.”
“Answer?”
“Can I kiss you. Right now. Please?”
“I thought you’d never ask.”
And with that, he leans down, finally pressing his lips against yours. He’s kissed a few people in his day, and he’s good at it, but he’s never felt the feeling he got from a kiss quite like the feeling he got kissing you. He swore his hear was about to beat out of his chest, but so was yours. You were feeling the exact same way he was. Something about him was just… intoxicating and this kiss? Well, you imagine that this is what a first high would feel like. You’re going to want so many more afterwards. When you both pull away, you just stare at each other for a moment, before he breaks into a grin, and kisses your nose. “You look cute after I kiss you,” he says, and you roll your eyes. “And suddenly, noise is making my head hurt even worse,” you say, causing him to snort. “Hmmm, then how about you make me shut up?” he says, and you smirk. “Gladly.”
Thank GOD Mina and Denki were nowhere near you two. They would never let either of you live down what’s happening. Being quiet with this wouldn’t be that hard, in fact, a lot of it was going to be fairly easy. The two of you were already quite touchy feely with each other, so what exactly is going to change? Shinsou doesn’t seem to be the type to be big on PDA from what you know about him, so it’s not like he’s just randomly going to pull you in for a kiss. Besides, even if he did, you two don’t have a label. Just friends with… benefits. But maybe not the sexual part of that. Though you wouldn’t mind if that part was included. You fell asleep in his arms again. This was something you were getting used to, and he was, too.

Mari In Twisted Wonderland | Abridged Version | Savanaclaw
Chapter 2
Days after the Overblot Incident and Revenge Unbirthday Party, Mari gets another dream and this time it’s about the furries-- I mean, animals. She didn’t really get what it meant.
Lunch happened and Ruggie stole Grim’s lunch. Mari was confused but then they were called to the Headmaster’s office so she couldn’t question it.
Crowley explained shit to the shared brain cell trio and Mari. Blah blah blah. Grim got upset that he can’t play magift and show off. Mari rationalized with him that he won’t be able to show off if he’s only a beginner and that she’ll treat him to canned tuna to cheer him up. He seemed to be having a terrible day, getting his lunch stolen and then being told he can’t participate in a sports event.
She asked Crowley if he was searching for a way home but quickly realizes that he didn’t seem to be doing it. Though, she didn’t really say anything about it since the demon brothers were probably looking for a way to get her back.
Then they got back to their dorms later but Crowley came to visit and explained that students were getting injured and shit was real sus since there were a lot of them. Grim told him that he didn’t want to help but he pretty much just forced them by saying the Ramshackle Dorm wasn’t free. He also bribed Grim by saying he’d let him participate in the magift tournament. Though, Mari was aware that he was lying through his teeth. However, she said nothing since she didn’t want to break Grim’s spirit again. Plus, she was going to help regardless of the situation. Might as well be helpful while she’s stuck in there.
So the investigation started. They looked in the infirmary and Mari noticed that there were no Savanaclaw students that were injured but figured that maybe the culprit hasn’t got to them yet. Then they interrogated two injured students from Heartslabyul and they didn’t get any helpful answers so they tried looking for more clues. Only to fail and go back to the Ramshackle Dorm.
Ace visited and they explained the situation to him. But then Deuce ran in and yelled about how Trey got injured too. So they ran to the Heartslabyul dorm and saw him.
Mari was genuinely proud of Grim for being nice enough to give Trey the can of tuna she bought for him earlier in order to cheer him up.
Riddle came by to check on Trey and then explained how he got injured. Then Cater pulled everyone excluding Trey to a different room and let Mari tell them about the other injured students.
So, the Heartslabyul gang + Grim and Mari went to investigate together and saw the Pomefiore Dorm, which was probably Mari’s favorite dorm so far. It was certainly pretty.
And now for Mari’s first impression of Rook: “Dang he kinda hot”
Rook will remember that
Then the rest of the gang decided that he didn’t look strong enough so the culprit probably wouldn’t wanna target him, then went on to Octavinelle to see the tweels.
First impression of the tweels as she and the rest ran for their dear lives: “Jesus fuck they’re creepy”
They escaped and Mari finally remembered what she noticed about the injured students again. “Savanaclaw might be the next targets since there weren’t any injured students from there”
So they got to the Savanaclaw Dorm and met Jack. She was like “oh you’re the hot furry” and he was like “excuse me?” Then he tells them that he won’t be targetted and that they should fuck off.
Then they got in trouble with Savanaclaw delinquents and Leona and Ruggie came. Leona recognized Mari as the herbivore that stepped on his tail. The delinquents get angry but he still drinks respecc women juice and just challenges the gang to magift. Since Mari had no magic, she had to sit this one out.
She goes home and sleeps, but then realizes she can’t and decides to have a midnight walk because she hasn’t seen enough horror movies to know that’s not the best idea. Then she meets Malleus. Probably thinks he’s the hottest guy she’s seen in NRC besides Leona and Jamil.
“Oh, you are a child of man” “And you’re a man with horns”
She isn’t particularly intimidated by him. Like— She’s met Lucifer and has been nearly killed by him twice. Some strange dude with horns got nothin’ on him. Mari asked who he is and he seemed to be surprised by that, then he smirked.
Dude said it would be better if she didn’t know and let her call him whatever she wanted. She was like “Aight” then he left.
Mari goes to sleep and has another dream. She wonders why she’s having another dream about animals and why does the lion look familiar. Then she woke up, wondering what it meant. Barbatos was rather vague when he gave her his parting gift.
On the way to school with Grim, she told him about the Tall handsome dude with horns. He dubbed him “Tsunotarou”. She liked the name a lot and decided to use it.
They meet up with Cater and Riddle, who tell them that Jamil got injured. So they go meet him.
‘Ah fuck his voice is hot too’ Mari thought when she met him. It seemed that she was right about Kalim, he was quite friendly.
So they finally found out about Ruggie but couldn’t catch him. Then Jack appeared again. He’s like “Why are you working so hard for other people’s sake?”
Ace is like “Lmao we just wanna get picked for the magift tournament and show off. We don’t give a shit about these guys.”
Mari sighed and said, “Why is literally everyone in this school so selfish?” And Jack questions her as to her reason for doing it. Then she replies with “Well-- Crowley kinda said that living in the Ramshackle Dorm wasn’t free. Though, he didn’t really have to force me since I would’ve helped regardless because I just like feeling helpful.”
Then Jack told the shared braincell trio that they’re worse than he thought. Though, he also mentioned that he didn’t trust Mari’s type. As in, “Guys that just do things for others”
Ace was like “no u”
Then Jack was like “Fight me bitch. If you want me to spill my guts, you gotta defeat me”
Deuce went bad boy like “fuck yeah lets go dude” and they fight
And they win. The rest of the guys are surprised that Mari knows how to fight. She’s like “The Future King of Hell taught me martial arts for like a year” and they’re not sure whether she’s being serious or if she’s crazy.
And then Jack went into this whole spiel about how cowardly tricks make him nauseous and how he wanted to use his own power to claim victory at the top. Then he finally spills the beans on what Ruggie’s unique magic is and how Savanaclaw is in on the plan.
“Why would they?” “How well you do in the magift tournament can have a big impact on your future, right? So I can’t say I don’t understand their feelings”
“GRRRRRRRRRRRR”
Mari is like “Dude, chill. Understanding someone doesn’t mean you agree with them.”
Jack replied with “The now comes before the future! Show what you can do now!”
Then goes onto yet another spiel about how he can’t stand Leona and how that guy is amazing but never gives his full effort.
Ace whispers to Mari like “Damn he tsundere for his own dorm leader”
And Jack tells them that Savanaclaw is going to target the dorm leader of Diasomnia, Malleus Draconia during the day of the magift tournament.
Riddle and Cater come by like “Lol thanks for telling us” Then Riddle was going to tell them the plan but Jack was like “bitch im not gonna help. Im gonna do this shit myself. Bye”
Mari countered with “What have you accomplished on your own?”
He’s just >:(
“Smart wolves hunt as a pack” “Ugh fine. But if your plan sucks, I’m leaving.”
So after hearing Riddle out, he’s like “Aight I’ll help.”
Everyone came to an agreement and went to their respective dorms. Mari has another dream, then thought “Bruh he really wanted to be king then when he became king, he didn’t even do it right.”
“Oi, wake up.”
Mari felt someone shake her awake. She groaned and swatted away the hands, wanting to sleep more. It didn’t quite register in her mind that someone broke into her room. It was only until her blanket was tugged away from her. The cool air hit her bare body. She shuddered and her eyes finally fluttered open to see Jack with a flustered expression before he threw the blanket over her body.
“WHY THE HELL ARE YOU NAKED?!”
“WHY ARE YOU IN MY ROOM?!”
“Tch.” He looked away and rubbed his neck. “I came from my morning run to wake you up early. I couldn’t let you oversleep on the day of the tournament. S-Sorry for breaking into your room…”
Grim perked up and was motivated to go immediately so that he could collect his reward to play in the tournament. “Come on! Let’s go already!”
“Just let me get dressed and I’ll be right with you. Be patient.”
For the rest of that morning, Jack couldn’t look at her directly. When he did, images of that embarrassing situation all came back to his mind
So they got to the stadium. Shit hit the fan but everything was fine because Heartslabyul revealed their plan. Diasomnia is perfectly alright.
Leona got pissed and he revealed his unique magic. Sand is everywhere. He’s trying to kill Ruggie.
Mari is like “Ugh I hate sand”
Jack also revealed his unique magic and turned into a full furry-- I mean, wolf. This surprised Leona, which gave Riddle the opportunity to collar him.
Lilia be spittin facts.
Hearing Leona yell about agony and despair and that things will never change kinda made Mari’s heart hurt because it felt… familiar. How hopeless he seemed to feel. It reminded her of how she was before coming to the Devildom.
Then he overblotted.
Then they beat the sit out of him. Mari is like “Does this usually happen?”
So the magift tournament went on and Savanaclaw still got to play because the injured students wanted revenge. Grim also reminded Crowley about his reward so he was allowed to play against Savanaclaw.
Grim did an oopsie and tried to do a special move but it backfired and hit Mari in the head instead. She had to be rushed to the infirmary.
She woke up to see the shared braincell trio and the furry boys. Ace told her that she’s been asleep for so long that the closing ceremony was over and they’re dismantling the venue.
Leona told her that Diasomnia was the champion.
Ace and Deuce talked about how good Malleus was for a moment. Jack was like “No one can win if they give up before they try.” Mari agreed with him. He then said that he was going to beat Diasomnia fair and square next year.
Leona was like ““Underhanded tactics” require one’s strength too” and she asked if he even felt bad. He was just like lmao no
A wild Babie has appeared. Leona went >:0 but introduced Cheka to them.
Mari squealed at the sight of such an adorable child. Internally she was saying “I’ve seen Cheka for 4 seconds but if anything were ever to happen to him, I’d kill everyone in this room and then myself.”
Jack: So the root of all Leona’s pain is…
Mari: The cutest lil angel ever!
Cheka: Are you guys my uncle’s friends?
Everyone else laughed at Leona except Mari who was busy introducing herself to the lil babie.
Leona will remember that.
Timeskip to when Mari went to sleep and saw the creepy shadow in the mirror. She’s lowkey shook but then she woke up. Seeing the time was pretty early in the morning, she decided to have a lil stroll to see the sun rise.
She found a good spot and sat down, singing lightly to herself.
The sound of leaves being crushed under one’s feet reached her ears from behind her. Mari didn’t bother looking up at the source, being too enamored with seeing the sky as its hues morph from navy to a golden yellow. The dark clouds turned into tangerine and peach ones. She gave a dreamy sigh.
“Oi, Mari.” She heard the gruff voice of Jack. “What are you doing here?”
“Oh you know, just… Watching that gorgeous sunrise. I’ve lived in a land with no sun for a year so seeing it like this is quite the blessing,” She responded, still not looking up.
“Seriously? I’ve never heard of a place like that.” Jack sat beside her.
“Yeah. Living in Hell was quite the experience but it was fun.” Mari chuckled lightly.
Her words caused him to furrow his eyebrows, wondering if she was kidding or not. He shook his head, deciding that it wasn’t important. He turned to her.
“So… about that time…”
“Hm? What time?” Mari finally looked at him, confusion swirling in her pools of chocolate. She tilted her head.
His face felt warm as the blood rose to his tanned cheeks. “Y-You know what I’m talking about!”
Upon seeing his flustered expression, she finally remembered what he meant. Her mouth formed an ‘o’. What could he possibly gain from bringing that up now?
“I wanted to apologize properly…” He spoke up again, rubbing the back of his neck. “I shouldn’t have violated your privacy like that and broke into your room.” He finally had the courage to look back into her eyes. Golden hues meeting chocolate.
“How can I make it up to you?”
Mari saw this opportunity and a smirk crept up onto her lips. “You could make it up to me by letting me pet you.”
He yelped and his eyes widened to the size of saucers. His ears stood erect. “Wh-What?!”
She pouted. “I thought you wanted to make it up to me? This is the least I could ask for after you broke into my room and saw me naked!”
“Okay! Okay! Just don’t yell or someone’s gonna hear you.”
Mari stopped and looked at him with expectations glinting in her eyes.
He leaned downward. His head was lowered and ears curled back, anticipating her touch.
She grinned and laid her hand over his head, caressing it tenderly. “Oh my~ Your hair is quite soft. I see that you groom yourself well, Jack. How nice~” She cooed, continuing to pet him with such pure glee swimming in her chocolate eyes. “How are you liking this? Does it feel nice~?”
“Tch… Just because I’m letting you do this, doesn’t mean I like it,” He told her.
“But your tail is wagging.” She pointed out. Blood spurted to his face and he pulled away.
“Alright, that’s enough!” He exclaimed to her, trying not to show her that he was flustered. “We’re going to be late for school if we don’t hurry.”
Mari glanced at the sun and nodded. “Oh! You’re right. I’ll go wake up Grim and head to class. Thanks again, Jack.”
“Don’t expect me to let you do that again. We’re not friends or anything.” He walked away from her.
A smile graced her lips as she watched him leave with a mirthful gaze. “Alright,” she whispered and made her way to the Ramshackle Dorm.

Wilhelm + Rhea - I’m pregnant.
Something was wrong, Seiros was sure of it. She staggered back to her cot after running a cool, damp cloth over her face, and flopped down with little grace. She groaned as she clutched her abdomen, praying to the Goddess that the world would stop spinning so much.
Someone must have poisoned her. Or rather, is poisoning her because this is the fifth day in a row she’s woken up like this.
“Seiros!” A singsong voice floated through the opening of her tent, all bright and chipper.
“Come in,” Seiros managed to call out, gulping as she felt her stomach heave again.
It was Rowena, which was probably good considering her current situation. How Cichol had ever managed to find, woo, marry, and have a child with such a woman so…different from himself had always been a mystery. But it was times like these that Seiros was thankful she was around.
Rowena frowned when she spotted her companion curled up on her cot. “Another rough morning?” she asked, producing some herbs from her bag and setting them down on the desk. She pushed aside some of the war maps and got to work making a nausea remedy.
“We really must…find whoever’s...responsible for this,” Seiros grumbled.
Rowena brought over the concoction and wordlessly handed it over. As Seiros brought it to her mouth, she caught her friend’s knowing, and worryingly smug grin. She gulped anxiously and asked, “What?”
“I think I know who’s responsible,” Rowena teased, “You might want to have a word with Wilhelm.”
“Why would he be poisoning me?”
“Poisoning?” Rowena’s gleeful laugh filled the tent, though Seiros was still at a loss as to why, “Oh my dear, please tell me all this war planning and scheming hasn’t clouded your head that much!”
“I…I don’t understand…”
Rowena reached out and took Seiros’ hands in hers, and gently pulled her up into a sitting position. “Seiros, my dear,” she said softly, breathlessly happy for her friend, “You’re pregnant.”
“…I’m…what?”
Rowena chuckled. “Don’t worry. That news always takes a moment to sink in.”
“I’m what?”
“Expecting, Sweetie.”
“But… I…I can’t be pregnant!” Seiros cried, “We’re fighting a war! I’m leading the war! A…and Wilhelm and I… I mean… We did, but he’s human and I’m…not…” She gasped, clamping a hand over her mouth as it finally, finally hit. “Oh Goddess I’m pregnant.”
“I don’t think you have much to worry about,” Rowena assured her, “It isn’t unheard of for our kind to have children with humans. And it’s not like you’ll be in this alone. I’ll be here, and so will the others. And of course there’s Wilhelm.”
“Oh Goddess…Wilhelm!” Seiros exclaimed, “I…I have to tell him!”
“Knowing Wilhelm I imagine he’ll be rather excited, too,” Rowena added.
“But what about the others?” Seiros demanded, “Cichol and Indech I’m not too worried about, but Macuil will be furious, I know it.”
“Oh don’t you worry about that old windbag,” Rowena sighed, “If he gives you any problems, send him to me.” She suddenly clapped her hands together, bouncing a little in excitement. “Oh little Ceth will finally have someone she can play with!”
“I’m pregnant,” Seiros murmured, suddenly feeling nauseous for a different reason. This was something completely out of her wheelhouse. She could lead an army. She could wield a sword. She could kick anyone’s ass with just her fists if she had to.
She could not picture herself as a mother.
She sighed heavily and buried her face in her hands, trying not to think too deeply about how this was going to affect her war against Nemesis.
“Oh Wilhelm! What perfect timing!” Rowena greeted cheerfully.
“Very funny, Wena,” Seiros groaned.
“Oh! I’m…sorry… Is this a bad time?”
Her head snapped up in an instant. “Wilhelm! No, it’s… Actually Rowena’s right: it’s perfect timing,” she said quickly.
“I’ll…give you two some privacy,” Rowena said, making her way to the door of the tent. She slipped out quickly, but Seiros could tell by the shadow cast against the canvas walls that Rowena’s definition of “privacy” was a tad skewed.
“Is everything alright my Love?” Wilhelm asked, a look of concern marring his gentle face, “Have you been sick again?”
Seiros was momentarily lost in his warm hazel eyes, but she shook her head briskly to bring herself back. “I…yes, I have,” she admitted, “And Rowena believes she’s found out the reason why.”
“It’s not poison, is it? I swear on my life I’ll find the bastard that’s been doing this to you and—“
“It’s not…poison, Wilhelm,” Seiros cut in with a wince. She patted the space on the cot next to her, and Wilhelm readily sat down beside her. She worked her hands into his, and gave a small squeeze. “My Light,” she breathed, “I’m pregnant.”
There was a pause, as the information sunk in. Then a brilliant smile - as bright as the sun itself - worked its way onto Wilhelm’s face. “You are?” he gasped, laughing with joy. He leapt up from his seat, dragging her along with him. He twirled around the tent with her in his arms, before slowing to pull her into a tight hug. “That’s wonderful, my Love!” he sighed.
Then he stopped, pulling away while still holding tight to her arms. “That…is wonderful, right? I… If you’re not… What I mean is, I know you’ve got your own—"
She put a finger on his lips, a common action of hers whenever the excitable man began to ramble. “It…it is wonderful,” she assured him, “I just…never thought it would happen to me.”
He chuckled. “I have to admit, knowing you can I believe that,” he said, tucking a lock of her emerald hair behind a pointed ear. She cast him a playful glare and he smiled innocently in response. “But…” he continued, “Wouldn’t this mean that… Well, we’ll be a family. You, me, and the little brawler waiting to come out.”
She snorted at the thought. “I should hope the child decides to become a brawler after they are born, my Light,” she stated. But then her mood sobered, as the rest of his statement was realized. “A…family…”
He frowned when he saw her eyes beginning to glaze over. “If it’s too soon, my Love, I…”
“No. No, it’s…” Tears began to form in her eyes, and slowly a large smile spread across her face. She could barely contain her joy as she uttered, “I’ll have a family again.”
— — —
She held the bundle close to her chest, still exhausted and sore. But a tiny hand had a tight hold of her finger, and wide, green eyes stared up at her. The child in her arms giggled, then, and tightened his grip.
“He’s incredible,” Wilhelm breathed as he watched over her shoulder, “So…small. But incredible.”
“He’ll grow to be a great Emperor someday,” Seiros sighed, looking up to meet the gaze of the newly-crowned Emperor of Adrestia.
“Hopefully he’ll know more of what he’s doing,” Wilhelm stated anxiously.
Seiros reached for her Light’s hand. “He’ll have an excellent role model,” she assured him gently.
In her arms, little Lycaon reached for his Papa and smiled.
— — —
AN: Ok, hear me out... This is my take on Rhea and Wilhelm. We don’t really know a whole lot and the stuff we do know comes from fairly shaky sources. We know Rhea - then Seiros - had some kind of relationship with Wilhelm but we don’t know the extent. We also know Wilhelm had a son, but we don’t know with who.
So what if Rhea is the matriarch of the Hresvelg legacy?
I’m going to expand on this more later, but for now I wanted to first, answer this prompt, and second, cover something I probably wasn’t going to cover in my longer fic.
So here are my headcanons that appear here and will likely pop up later:
Rhea and Wilhelm genuinely loved each other. They met when Rhea was in a dark place, having lost her family and unsure of where to turn next. Wilhelm was a kindhearted farmer who wanted to help her out, saved her life from some of Nemesis’ men by sacrificing himself, and was then saved by her in turn when she gave him her Crest in the healing process. From there, their relationship blossomed. Rhea calls him her “Light” because he brought light and warmth back into her life when she thought it was all gone (much like how El views Byleth...hmm, symbolism...)
Rhea tells Wilhelm that Nemesis destroyed her family, but doesn’t go into details. He respects her enough to not push for more answers, though he is curious. He always hopes that one day she’ll trust him enough to open up.
The other Saints join the fight against Nemesis at Rhea’s insistence, but they stay for Wilhelm. He’s a charismatic guy, a hell of a warrior, and a kindhearted man, and he wins over Cichol and Indech with little effort. Macuil, however, never trusts him and acts like the scary big brother protecting his little sister (Seiros).
Rowena is my take on Seteth’s wife/Flayn’s mother. I picture her as a Nabatean, just not one of the powerful saints. (I always kinda pictured it like a hierarchy of Sothis first, then the Children of the Goddess/Saints, then lesser Nabateans forming the bulk of the community.) Like Flayn, she’s mostly a healer and has a bubbly personality. She brings out the fun and happiness in Seteth, and after her death he struggles to feel such things again. Her loss was heavily felt by all, due to how friendly she was with everyone.
The reason Edelgard doesn’t look more like Rhea/only has a minor Crest of Seiros, etc. is due to the fact that it’s been centuries since Rhea gave birth to Lycaon. The Nabatean traits eventually fade, as Rhea is the only Nabatean to ever continue the line in the Hresvelg family. Crest-strength and other traits shared by Nabateans eventually faded as more human genetics were added in. (This is also why I HC Flayn as having two Nabatean parents rather than just one.)
Rhea, having lost Wilhelm in the war and then watching her son grow old while she stayed young, disconnects from those types of relationships once the heartbreak becomes too much. In her altered history, she makes sure Lycaon’s mother is listed as unknown, and eventually the number of people who did know becomes only her close, remaining family. And she swears them to secrecy. Eventually, the connection she and the Church have with the Hresvelg family shifts and breaks, and it eventually becomes unimportant that the Imperial family literally wouldn’t have existed without her.
Perhaps that was a dumb decision, along with some of the other dumb decisions she made back then, but I also headcanon that Nabateans age very slowly. So while she was probably around 100+ years old by then, for a seemingly immortal being who appears to be in her 30s? 40s? nearly 1100 years later, her emotional age by that point would have been maybe late teenager? Early twenties? Around the same emotional age that Edelgard was when she decided that there would be no potential flaws in her Flame Emperor stunt. That’s not to diss either of them - it’s just that they were young, and dealing with emotional shit far too heavy for any one person to deal with. So Rhea’s choices back around year 90 through to year 100 should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
All those centuries don’t make it any easier, though, when Edelgard declares war on her ancestor unknowingly, and through all the anger and betrayal Rhea feels she can see the same passion and fire in the girl that Wilhelm once had.

Matt and Suzie were a happy couple who tied the knot 2 years ago, and have been together for 5 years. Matt was a 30 year old white man with longish brown hair that was neat and well maintained. He stood at 5’10 with a slim build, had blue eyes that were behind a pair of glasses since he didn’t like contact lenses, but it gave him a nerdy look, which Suzie was into. Matt had a decent paying job, but it was the stereotypical bland, corporate type job that was totally unfulfilling. But outside of his monotonous work life, Matt was a pilot and even had his own small plane that he recently fixed up.
Suzie was a 28 year old white woman with wavy brown hair, brown eyes, and olive skinned since she was of Italian descent on her mom’s side of the family. Suzie stood at 5’7 with a slender build, had bright white teeth that always made her smile stand out, didn’t have any tattoos but had piercings in her ears and belly button, and looked a bit young for her age. Suzie worked as a CNA in a nursing home in the next town over and hoped to go back to school to be an RN someday. Suzie was a conventionally attractive woman who many thought was out of Matt's league, but she was surprisingly down to earth and a generally pleasant person to be around.
The couple’s 2nd wedding anniversary came up, and Matt decided to take Suzie out for a ride on the plane, and then go out to a nice dinner afterwards. Suzie always thought Matt’s passion for flying to be interesting, and genuinely enjoyed going on plane rides with him. It’s a great opportunity to have quality 1 on 1 time and see the world from a different angle. Suzie has even tried to convince Matt to apply to be a commercial airline pilot, but Matt was never interested. He always felt that he’d lose his passion for flying if he did it for a living.
It was around 3:45pm when they took off that day. It was a cool, overcast day with a slight breeze, but no rain or fog, which is detrimental to flying- especially in a small plane like Matt’s. It took about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the air traffic controller’s suggested cruising altitude. There were beautiful, unobstructed views from that height, and the only noise was from the small plane’s propellers and the occasional check in from air traffic control. Out the left window, you could see miles and miles of ocean and out the right and front windows, you could see the beach and the town below.
The couple had a nice time together, but things began to change just as Matt headed back towards the airport. “This is tower 1. Check your altimeter reading. Our radar is saying you’re well above your aircraft’s ceiling.” A male voice said over the radio. Matt looked at the altimeter- which was many of the confusing looking meters in the cockpit. This particular device measures the aircraft’s altitude and the angle it’s traveling at, and has to be reset before every takeoff to ensure it’s working properly; it’s arguably one of the most important instruments that a pilot needs. Matt takes a look at the device and says “everything looks good on my end.” There’s a slight pause before the air traffic controller says “could be a radar miscue, but keep us posted the rest of the way.” Matt agrees and continues flying back towards the airport.
About 5 minutes later, the nose of the plane began pointing down slightly. Matt pulls back on the wheel, trying to point the plane back up but instead, the exact opposite starts to happen. The plane continues heading downwards, dropping several hundred feet in a short period. “is everything ok babe? Just a little drop?” Suzie asks, sensing something isn’t quite right. “I dunno. It’s like the plane doesn’t have any lift, but that shouldn’t happen at this altitude.” Matt says, trying to figure out which correction procedure to start. Matt struggled over the ensuing minutes to stabilize the aircraft’s angle, and a nosedive began. “fuck… we’re stalling!” Matt shouts urgently, realizing the problem too late. Suzie buckles up her seatbelt and white knuckles her armrests. She begins breathing heavily as she watches her husband struggle to fix the problem. “Matt…are we gonna be ok?” she asks, scared. Matt says something inaudible under his breath as he continues to frantically ameliorate their nose dive.
When their altitude decreased a bit and lift wasn’t re-established, the aircraft began to spin while continuing its plummet to the earth. Suzie closed her eyes tightly, squeezing the arm rests with all her might. “please don’t crash. Please don’t crash…” she thought to herself. While the aircraft was spinning, Matt’s glasses flew off his head and were tossed elsewhere in the aircraft. Matt began navigating the aircraft towards a vacant lot off in the distance for an emergency landing. “ok hun, this is gonna be a rough landing, but I need you to keep your eyes shut and be strong for me.” Matt says, nervous himself. Suzie nods and tells Matt she loves him, but begins to feel queasy from the aircraft’s erratic spinning.
Matt began to make preparation for a crash landing. This is something he’s trained for, but never in a million years expected to have to perform. During the aircraft’s descent, Matt was able to point the nose of the aircraft up so the bottom side of the plane would make contact with the ground. While Matt achieved the correct angle for an emergency landing and opened landing gear, he had trouble reducing speed.
What felt like seconds later, the bottom of the plane made contact with the ground in the vacant lot mentioned earlier. The plane bounced violently several times while still going forward. Suzie screamed as she was bounced around a little. The plane bounced several times, eventually ending up in a rocky area of the lot. The already violent landing because even more turbulent. Matt was shaken around quite extensively, hitting his head and neck multiple times against his seat and other surfaces. A rock flew up through the front window after being kicked up by the propeller. The rock was hurled right at Matt’s forehead and a tremendous speed, killing him instantly.
Finally, the aircraft came to an abrupt stop about a quarter mile or so after touching down. Suzie awoke minutes later after being knocked out herself. Her eyes opened slowly, and was a but groggy at first, but quickly regained her mental faculties. Her brown eyes scanned the scene out her window. She could see smoldering pieces of metal and fragments of the plane scattered across the dirt and rock covered area. “matt?” she asks before looking over at him. His face was battered and bloody from glass, the rock, and also had bruises from being thrown around. He was hard to recognize at that point, which visibly upset Suzie. “matt? MATT?!” she said, shaking him, to which she received no response. “MATT!” she screamed, realizing he wasn’t breathing- or alive for that matter. “oh my god… oh no… this isn’t happening…” she said to herself out loud, beginning to cry.
Sirens could already be heard off in the distance, with multiple reports of a plane crash being called into 911. Suzie began sobbing, holding her newly deceased husband’s hand, waiting for emergency personnel to arrive. Suzie felt a pain in her lower abdomen from the seatbelt locking up and pressing her abdomen. She also had a slight headache and felt a little nauseous, but had enough adrenaline and endorphins pumping through her to make her injuries feel tolerable.
The police department were first to arrive on scene. A female officer scurries over to the plane. “we have 2 victims- 1 male 1 female. Male is deceased and female is awake and alert.” She’s heard saying into her radio. “HE’S NOT DEAD. HE CAN’T BE! YOU GOTTA HELP HIM!” Suzie cries to the female officer. The cop tries to change the subject and talk about her injuries. “can you tell me where it hurts miss? The ambulance is almost here.” The cop says. “Matt’s dead…” Suzie cries out, not answering the officer’s question.
The fire department and ambulance arrives to the crash site about 2 minutes later. The fire department hooks up their hose to a fire extinguisher nearby and put out the small handful of fires nearby. 2 medics head over towards the plane and manage to open up the side door. “hi ma’am, we’re with Bristol County EMS. Can you tell me your name?” a female medic asks softly. “um…suzie. Suzie Carter. My husband’s Matt. Is he ok?!”suzie replied. The Male medic went to the opposite side and checked on matt. He felt for a carotid pulse, checked for respirations, and checked his pupils with a pen light. Matt was pulseless, not breathing, and had fixed and dilated pupils. The male medic discreetly shook his head at the female one, indicating Matt was a goner. “Matt? Is he ok? Is he dead?!” suzie cried out, panicked. “he’s in rough shape, but we have to focus on you for now, ok?” the male medic said, trying to reason with Suzie. The female medic placed a c-collar on Suzie and snipped the seatbelt with scissors. The medic then cut off Susie’s top, only sparing her black bra. “that’s a nasty looking bruise on your belly. Does it hurt?” the female medic asked. “um… kinda" suzie replied. The medic began palpating Suzie’s abdomen. “AHH!” Suzie yelped, wincing in pain. “abdomen’s stiff and rigid with point tenderness.” The female medic relays to the other. “what does that mean?” suzie asks. “it means you hurt your belly and we need to get you checked out at the hospital, alright?” the male medic said calmly.
Suzie is removed from the destroyed aircraft and placed onto a backboard and stretcher. The medics set up a portable heart monitor, which read unstable vitals: BP 90/55, heart rate 131 BPM, and a pulse ox of 95%. 2 large bore IVs were set up, and fluid resuscitation began. A dose of pain meds and a dose of valium were pushed do calm Suzie down in the ambulance.
In the ambulance, further examination began. Suzie's right forearm was broken, and she had a bump on her head. The female medic shined a pen light into Suzie's eyes to see if there was a head injury, but her pupils were equal and reactive. Suzie’s jeans were snipped off and her shoes were taken off, leaving her barefoot and half naked on the backboard with her bra and matching underwear only being spared. “ok Suzie, can you wiggle your toes for me?” the medic asked. “uh huh.” Suzie responded. Suzie's slender toes which were painted with black nail polish, remained perfectly still. “ok Suzie, let’s do it again.” The medic said. Once again, her toes remained still. “ok, good job.” The medic said, realizing a spinal cord injury was within the realm of possibilities. The medic then placed and o2 mask onto Suzie's face and just monitored her vitals the rest of the way.
Upon arrival to the ER, Suzie was lifted onto the trauma room table under the big overhead light while the medics rattled off information to the trauma team. “Hi Suzie, can you tell me if you passed out during the accident?” a veteran nurse asked softly. “I don’t remember.” Suzie said. “I’ll take that as a yes.” The nurse replied. Trauma labs were drawn and blood transfusions began while the attending called out orders. Chest x-rays and a FAST scan were performed. The x-ray showed a complex fracture of the right ulna, requiring surgical intervention to repair, a vertebra fracture at the L3 level, and a partially collapsed right lung. The FAST scan came back clean for the chest and pelvis, but there was a serious non-specific bleeding in the abdomen. “page ortho and surgery. I want a head, chest, abdomen CT. And let’s do a right chest tube while we’re at it.” The attending barked to his subordinates.
Suzie screamed and yelped in pain during the chest tube insertion since she was wide awake, but her o2 stats went up markedly once the tube’s placement was confirmed. A blanket was placed over her torso and she was wheeled over to radiology for a CT scan. The scan showed a small brain bleed that was thought to dissipate on its own. The spinal cord injury was confirmed, and it didn’t seem very promising since there was damage to the spine itself. In all likelihood, Suzie would be paralyzed from the waist down. The abdominal bleeding source wasn’t able to be located on the CT scan, so it was decided that she would be taken to the operating room for an exploratory laparotomy.
After being whisked upstairs into the OR, Suzie was quickly prepped for surgery. She was sedated and intubated with a 7.5 ET tube, with the tube being secured with a blue tube holder. Her belly was sterilized with betadine, staining it a brownish orange color. A midline incision was made in the attractive brunette's belly. The skin separated with ease from the sharp scalpel blade. The underlying fat, connective tissue, and muscle was cut through to expose the abdomen. A rush of blood came out of the incision upon entrance to the abdominal cavity, but before retractors could be placed. Suction was applied to the area, but it didn’t help. The retractors were placed and the opening was created. The area had to be suctioned, but it became apparent that there was extensive bleeding. The liver, spleen, IVC, and aorta were all intact, so the originally suspected culprits were ruled out. The surgical team then began the tedious task of searching through the bowel loops and mesenchymal area for injuries.
During the tedious search, Suzie's blood pressure began dropping. More blood products were hung and vasopressors were pushed, but that was simply a band aid meant to buy some time. After 2 more minutes of unsuccessful probing and prodding, Suzie’s vitals began to plummet rapidly. Meds were pushed, but she became pulseless. The abdominal surgery was paused temporarily and chest compressions were started. Suzie’s chest caved in repeatedly as it was pounded away by one of the nurses. Her perky, B cup breasts bounced and jiggled in sync with each of the compressions. On the heart monitors, PEA was displayed. Epi and atropine were injected intravenously in an attempt to obtain a shockable rhythm.
After a few cycles of unsuccessful chest compressions, the lead surgeon decided to look for the bleed once again. Suction had to he applied once more, but the doctor found a bleed in one of the mesenteric veins. A vascular clamp was placed in the meantime until the vessel could be ligated. Blood still accumulated in the abdomen, so it appeared another vessel was severed in the vicinity. While going through more bowel loops, there was significant bruising and swelling in the jejunum. Another bleed was located in a deeper mesenteric vein, and that vessel was subsequently clamped off. No additional blood accumulated in the abdomen, so it appeared all bleeding sources have been located. In the meantime, the code ensued. A 2nd round of drugs were pushed and more blood products were hung from the rapid infuser.
Finally, the monitors showed v-fib. The defibrillator paddles were gelled and charged to 200j. The defibs were then pressed up against Suzie's bare chest as everyone stepped away from the table in anticipation of the shock. Suzie’s body jolted abruptly in response to the shock, but she remained in v-fib. Chest compressions were resumed while the paddles were being readied. A moment later, a 300j shock was delivered. Suzie’s lifeless body reacted more noticeably from the stronger shock. Her back arched slightly and thrust her chest upwards, jiggling her b cup breasts. Suzie wasn’t shocked out of v-fib, so life saving efforts resumed. A nurse took over chest compressions, pumping away at the 28 year old's chest while the defibs were being recharged to 360j. The next shock was delivered about 30 seconds later, causing Suzie’s feet to leap up above the table and slam back down a second later, showing off the thick, prominent handful of wrinkles in her size 8.5 soles. Luckily, this shock converted the attractive brunette to sinus bradycardia, and surgery could continue.
The rest of the surgery was touch and go, but the OR team managed to maintain a pulse. The 2 severed mesenteric veins were successfully ligated and proper blood drainage was restored to the intestines, but post operative monitoring for blood clots was important. Next, orthopedics began their end of the surgery. Suzie’s fractured ulna was surgically reduced with a small rod and pins that were inserted directly into the bone. Lumbar fusion surgery of the L3-L4 space was performed to reduce motion in the area and prevent additional damage to the spinal cord itself.
After the surgery, Suzie was transferred to the ICU for careful monitoring. She remained sedated and intubated, but switched over to a ventilator. A catheter and central line were placed, and antibiotics were added to her cocktail of medicines since her abdomen was open for almost 5 hours. Suzie's parents and older sister arrived at the hospital about an hour and a half earlier, and were waiting in a private waiting room together.
“How is she?!” Suzie’s mom asked the trauma surgeon, teary eyed as soon as he entered the room. “she’s in the ICU and in pretty rough shape. She sustained some major internal bleeding during surgery and her heart stopped beating for 6 minutes- we were lucky to get her back. She also sustained a spinal cord injury, and it’s very possible she’ll be paralyzed from the waist down. She has a moderate head injury we're monitoring, and she also suffered a badly broken arm in the crash. I’m very sorry ma’am” the trauma surgeon said. “paralyzed?!” her mom asked, beginning to cry again. The doctor paused, then sighed before continuing. “yes ma’am. The spinal cord injury she sustained is quite serious, so it’s very possible she’ll be paralyzed. Best case scenario, she’ll have major issues with mobility.” The family paused, taking all of the bad news in. “I wanna see her.” The mom demanded. “I can take you up to see her, but I warn you- she’s sedated and hooked up to a breathing ventilator. She’s gonna look pretty beat up, so please keep that in mind, ok?” The surgeon said.
The surgeon escorts the 3 family members up to the ICU. “oh god…my poor baby…” the mom cries out, almost falling to her knees after seeing Suzie hooked up to a ventilator and connected to other equipment. Suzie was covered in abrasions, her chest was bruised from CPR, there was a large bandage on her belly covering up the closed incision, the bump on her head appeared to have gotten a little bigger, her complexion was a ghastly pale, and she was cool to the touch. Suzie’s BP and heart rate were stabilizing, but her chest tube had to be fixed a bit after surgery since it was knocked loose from the resuscitation efforts.
She remained relatively stable for the next handful of hours, but there were some changes that occurred around 3am. Her blood pressure dropped again, and her medication dosage was upped. But at 3:30, Suzie began having a seizure. Her body twitched and thrashed involuntarily on the bed as her family watched in horror. “help! SOMEONE HELP!” Suzie’s sister shouted, attracting a nurse’s attention. A few nurses and the doctor entered the room. Lorazepam was pushed intravenously to control the seizure, but it was discovered that her right pupil was blown and the left pupil was constricted. 2 minutes later, the seizure was controlled and Suzie was taken back down to radiology for a repeat head CT.
The scan showed that her brain was swelling, and that raised a major red flag with the doctors. Since her head injury had a delayed reaction that required additional care, she was taken back up to the OR to have an intracranial pressure monitor placed.
A portion of her head was shaved and the small, hairless patch was sterilized with betadine. Once the area was cleaned, an electric drill was used to create a small opening in the skull. After the opening was made, a small pressure sensitive monitor was calibrated and fed into the hole, and constant intracranial pressure monitoring began. Initially, Suzie’s ICP reading was 12mm/Hg, which is abnormal, but still below the threshold for further intervention. Anything above 0 is abnormal, but 15-20 is considered dangerous, and anything above 20 is typically fatal since the brain herniates at that point. Suzie was taken back to the ICU after the procedure was completed.
Over the next few hours, Suzie’s ICP readings increased 16 mm/Hg. At that point, the ICU team decided to put Suzie into a medically induced coma in an attempt to prevent further brain swelling and give her body a chance to recover.
Throughout the day, Suzie only showed signs of getting worse despite the doctor’s best interventions. Her ICP monitor was displaying 17 mm/Hg, but her pupils were fixed and dilated. After a neurology consult and an eeg, it was determined that Suzie was brain dead. The attending physician delivered the bad news to Suzie’s family, and they decided to remove her from the ventilator. Suzie was surrounded by her family and was pronounced dead at 8:21am.
After the ICU team gave her family a chance to grieve and say goodbye, they went into the room and began removing equipment from her battered, lifeless body. The EKG electrodes were disconnected, the IVs were removed, all monitors were shut off, and her body was covered up, only leaving her feet exposed. A toe tag was filled out and placed. The tag dangled in front of Suzie’s wrinkly soles as she was taken to the hospital morgue.
Suzie’s cause of death was determined to be brain herniation from the head injury she sustained. The brain injury was moderate at first, but had a delayed onset and grew progressively worse. The cause of the plane crash was investigated over the following weeks, and the cause was determined to be calibrating the altimeter wrong, and ended up at a higher altitude than the plane was made to fly in, so the plane stalled. Overall, this was a preventable accident that led to the deaths of 2 young people.

A girly chat
If the renowned Hogwarts School of Magic and Sorcery has a thousand years of tradition, there is possibly another tradition that is even older than Hogwarts. In fact, it is probably as old as it was when the first boarding school that took in teenagers of both sexes for almost a whole year was set up.
Into the shadows, Ginny Weasley carefully scrutinized the last stretch of corridors to the staircase that finally led to the Gryffindor common room. A couple of hours ago the curfew had come into effect and now her only concern was to be able to reach the safety of the common room before some particularly fussy prefect, or worse, a teacher, discovered her returning late to her tower.
She had split up with her boyfriend Dean a while ago after a not too satisfying snogging session and her mood was particularly irritable.
Lately, things between the two of them haven't been working out as they should for a couple of girl and boyfriend. She was aware that there was an imbalance in the relationship. She liked Dean, that was indisputable and she would never have agreed to have a relationship if there was even the slightest interest on her part.
It was one thing to have a very satisfying intense and passionate snogging session in the heat of the moment and quite another to maintain a relationship with another person with nothing more than the purely physical. Not that she was against it. In fact, some of her classmates had that kind of relationship, “a term flirt", they called it. The kind that start a few weeks into the school year and end up back home for the summer holidays with some of the Hogwarts Express carriage suspiciously isolated from the rest with silencing spells, door locks and a few imperturbable ones too. It was simply that this type of relationship was not for her and the point was as time passed, the relationship with Dean seemed to slide dangerously towards that way.
She was fully aware that Dean was the one most emotionally involved in that relationship. In fact, Ginny was beginning to suspect that Dean was genuinely falling in love with her, and while it was true that she was attracted to the bloke, it was even more true that she was nowhere near as attracted to him same way.
To make matters worse, Dean was developing a somewhat overprotective feelings about her and, without intending to, was overwhelming her with all his solicitous displays of attention. She knew that he didn't mean to do it on purpose, but for a country girl who had to deal with six older brothers, two of whom were the biggest and most terrible pranksters in the history of the school, another who had the dubious honour of being the biggest blind stubborn who ever walked the face of the earth, one leading member of Dumbledore’s army, one sneaky fighter in the mystery department and owner of the most terrifying bat-bogey hex known, all those attentions were, to put it mildly, a pain in the ass.
To add to all this the growing, even at the end of February, level of anxiety that every fifth year student experiences as the dates for the OLWs tests approach, the initial appreciation that Ginny's mood was particularly irritable tends to fall short and, if by the hands of the devil, we add as the last ingredient to the potion the Weasley name and its legendary explosive temperament, it is not necessary to have an NEWT in potions to discover that we are faced with the perfect elaboration of the “Weasley Wrath” potion trademark and, only a fool, a suicidal, a desperate person or someone absolutely unaware of the delicate boil that was cooking in the small body of the redhead, would think of taking it out of the pot.
Ginny Weasley wasn't the only one wandering the halls at that hour. Also on the way to the common room, Hermione Granger was returning from one of her lonely prefect patrols. For months now, she had avoided patrolling with the other prefect of Gryffindor, so she simply left the common room early and made an erratic patrol of the castle in a desperate attempt not to find him in her path. If she had met him or anyone else, they would have immediately noticed her swollen eyelids, her red eyes and the soft sob that escaped from her mouth. Normally she would try to hide these already constant features on her face through some make-up, glamorous charms, impeccable uniformity and an apparent indifference to what was going on around her, but today she was too hurt, despondent and tired to realize her real look.
Having spent more than half of her shift in a secluded corner blowing off steam in her crying, all she wanted was to reach the quiet of her bed, cast an imperturbable spell and keep crying until the tiredness overtook her and she fell asleep.
It had been months since Ronald Weasley had started dating Lavender Brown and contrary to what might have been expected, the pain of heartbreak had not diminished one iota, quite the contrary. As the weeks passed, it was manifesting itself in all its majestic and vileness.
It was simply agony!
Her daily routine had become an unconscious attempt to avoid him for any means. Waking up even earlier, skipping meals, going to classroom for unusual routes, prolonging her library study hours beyond what was customary there to her. . . every conceivable means had been used by her to avoid him, but it had not been enough. Somehow, as always with Ron, it was never enough.
She couldn't avoid him completely, whether it was in classroom, in the common room, at her frugal meals or even in the library, where he would go when he had no choice but to complete his schoolwork and even though she tried so hard not to notice him when he was in those risk areas, it was so unlikely that she thought the expression “ignoring the elephant in the room” was an understatement and should be replaced for “ignoring the Ronald in the room”, because a redheaded lighthouse more than six feet high was frankly impressive and even harder to avoid.
To her greatest misery, where her brain was plotting escapes, her treacherous heart longed to see the one responsible for her misery and more than once she surprised herself looking for in the direction she knew the insufferable redhead was. The problem was that usually the image her hungry eyes encountered was not that of a lonely, bucolic Ron pining for her, but of a nasty Ronald Bilius Weasley who seemed to have attached with a permanent Sticking Charm to Lavender Brown's mouth.
Those were the worst times for Hermione, except for the nights when these images of constant kissing were repeated incessantly and while part of she was disgusted and nauseous at such sexual display, it was no less true that another part of she, most of she to be honest, desperately wanted to tear Lavender from her face and transfigure her into a couch on which to throw Ron so that she could measure his tonsils with her own tongue. That was the moment when the tears came to his eyes uncontrollably and the need to take refuge somewhere isolated arose.
So, the lonely prefect rounds were in a way a blessing and a curse.
Blessing because she was allowed to hide in any of the school's classrooms where she could vent her tears sometimes, sometimes with a brief burst of anger. Curse, because in the lonely rooms of the castle, that was when her brain was at its most tortured and that night, the memories had been particularly painful.
Without pretending to rejoice in her grief, she had gone back in time, remembering the happy moments with Ron, especially after the incident, saved by the skin of her teeth, from the Mystery Department. Even before, she had felt that something was changing in their relationship as friends, as for example, when she discovered that Ron had given her a bottle of perfume, but it had never been so evident until after the disastrous raid that had taken Sirius ´life.
The point was that ever since she woke up with the ugly scar on her chest, she shuddered at the memory, Ron had been with her all the time, comforting her and even, in a moment of weakness she had, making her feel that the imprint had not diminished in any way how beautiful she might look to a man. Quite the opposite. It was proof that she was a brave woman willing to face any manifestation of injustice and evil and if any man was not able to see it, then he would not be worthy of her love.
“If I knew a woman who was willing to fight like that for me. . .“, he had started with a dreamy look, “...I'd be in love with her forever and someday I'd make her my wife“. Causing her to fall on his own arse if she hadn't been lying on one of the beds in the school infirmary wing, at the same time that she becomes a puddle of drool.
She had barely been able to stop herself from grabbing his shirt, drawing him in front of her and facing his eyes, telling him:
There's one who's been fighting for you since the bloody second year and you still haven't noticed, you stupid idiot! and then kissed him like there's no tomorrow.
Instead, she'd babbled something unintelligible, burst into moan, and then she'd taken refuge in his chest and burst into tears.
Great, Hermione! She thought as she banged her head repeatedly against the nearest wall. You had your chance on a silver platter and you chose that moment to show yourself as a weak, crying damsel. You are mum Myrtle pride.
Previous times, during the summer, she had gone to The Burrow like so many others and had to admit that there had been a change in Ron's behaviour. Somehow, he seemed to be more solicitous of her without that meaning the end of his usual discussions. It simply seemed as if it was easier for them to be together without provoking each other for trivial matters, at least until “Fleeeerg" with her stunning beauty and “teggific" accent, made her presence felt in the vicinity, at which point Ron seemed to be slightly dazed and in spite of everything, she had to admit that this daze lasted for only a moment before he pulled himself together. Sometimes Hermione helped him with a particularly hard and cruel slap, on the other hand very satisfying for her, on the back of his neck. Anyway, his reactions to Fleur's presence weren’t more that a brief stunned. Just the opposite to the pitiful sight of the fourth year.
In short, his behaviour in the hospital wing, The Burrow and the first months of the term at Hogwarts did not bode well for what was to come. In fact, she thought they were taking steps in the right direction until after she invited him to Professor Slughorn's party and perhaps that was the final reason she felt so broken. She had been brushing against happiness with her fingertips so close that she could almost feel it and suddenly found herself touching. . . nothingness.
Thus she was immersed in her own reflections and returning to the stairs leading to the Gryffindor Tower when she seemed to perceive the movement of a shadow lurking in the darkness of the corridors.
Surely if she had been sufficiently rested and clear-minded her reaction could have been better, but for someone who is personally, emotionally exhausted, and with Hermione Granger's history of unpleasant encounters, this was perfectly understandable:
“IMPEDIMENTA!”
It had been like suddenly hitting an invisible wall. Convinced that the path between her hiding place and the stairs leading to her target was free of obstacles, she had launched herself into a swift race towards the stairs and, at a stroke, bounced back.
If the initial impact had been brutal, falling to the cold, hard floor of the school in an uncontrolled manner had not been a piece of cake either, but if she had learned anything from her recent fight it was that pain could wait. Because in the time it takes to complain about the wounds, a spell with very, very bad intentions can go after you and that is definitely much worse than the pain itself. So as soon as she had finished bouncing around on the floor of the corridor, she threw herself to the side as she wielded her wand to confront her assailant and found herself facing another wand, behind which were astounded and very familiar brown eyes.
“Her. . . Hermione?”
“Ginny?”
They were both so bewildered that they forgot to lower their respective wands, which continued to point at each other like a mournful omen, until the prefect of Gryffindor surrendered hers while offering her other hand to help the friend with the sore arse.
“For God's sake, Ginny”, she scolded her as he helped her up. “You scared me to death. What are you supposed to be doing at this hour outside your bedroom lurking in the school halls?” She finished.
“Oh! I don't know”, accepting help meanwhile she rubbed her bruised arse with her other hand and giving her friend an unfriendly look, the redhead's response was not long in coming. “Maybe wait until a hot wand witch was encouraged to use me as a target for her shooting practice”, she said sarcastically.
“You know that's not what I'm asking you, Ginny”. Hermione ignored the little voice at the back of her head which told her to answer with the same irony, an instinctive reflex, and the fruit of the continuous and biting training that she practiced daily with the youngest of Ginny’s brothers.
That was before, she corrected herself. We are even talking to each other anymore, she told herself and after all, Ginny was her best friend. The one who had been supporting her in her worst moments making imaginative descriptions of her stupid brother to try and cheer her up.
“Okay, okay. I've been spending some time with Dean”, she explained as she dusted off his uniform. “Far from prying eyes, Hermione. Is that good enough for you, or would you prefer me to give you more details about our business?” She ended up with a smile that had nothing innocent about it.
“Save me the nauseating details please, I have just finished my dinner and I would like to keep it inside my stomach, thank you very much.”
A nasty expression was drawn on her face and the youngest Weasley didn't know for sure if it was more fake than real. What if it was completely real is, that it was the most blatant lie Hermione Granger had ever told her.
“Hermione”. She paused for a brief moment thinking of how to approach the subject. “I didn't actually see you in the big dining room during dinner so, I'm wondering if you had anything to eat?”
“Well. . . er. . . me. Yes”. . . She stuttered. “I was actually late while completing my homework, so when I realized this, I spent a moment in the kitchens while making my rounds.”
“Hermione. . .”
“Giiiinny?”
All right, the gentle approach didn't seem to yield the desired result, so it was time to tighten the screws a bit. Ginny had a genuine concern about Hermione's health. She was aware of how little she ate and of the use of glamorous charms on herself. Not for nothing, she had been her only real friend and confidant.
“Hermione, don't try to hide it”, her voice took on a tone of harshness necessary to provoke her friend reaction. Hermione tended to ignore all the negative things said about her and the requirements that displeased her. That doesn't mean it didn't hurt, like when Draco Malfoy constantly insulted her, but making a habit of it, she tended not to give it much of her attention at the moment.
“It's because of my arse of a brother, isn't it?”
The prefect's expression of pain and the sinking of her shoulders confessed exactly what Ginny had suspected.
“Hermione, this has to stop now”, she continued, looking into her eyes. “He is a perfect prat, we know it but, look at yourself. Your eyes look like they've fallen victim to the conjunctivitis curse and you’ve been crying so much that even the tiny amount of makeup you do wear got smeared’. You don't eat. You don't rest. I doubt you're even getting enough sleep. You can't keep hiding it with glamour charms. You have to talk to him.”
“I don't have anything to talk to that. . . that. . . lubricious dog”, Hermione said, her body went rigid at the mere suggestion of talking to Ron. Under no circumstances would she stoop to talking to him.
“Hermione…” Ginny was patient enough to confront her friend. Sometimes she was surprised at how damned stubborn she could be and how much she and Ron were alike in that. “Right now you're being miserable and stupid too. Yes; stupid. Don't look at me like that”, she defended herself when the brunette frowned at her. “Think about it. Since you stopped talking to him, you don't have him like your couple or like your best friend anymore.
This does not mean that you have stopped nursing a broken heart, or that have you forgotten him. You’ve closed off any chance you might have had from making him realise he’s a right tool for dating Lavender because he can’t already to notice how extraordinary you are. How's he going to notice if you aren’t anywhere near him?
Ginny knew it was her turn to tell a big lie. Ron already knew how extraordinary Hermione was. During the summer holidays of the fourth year, Voldemort's return had been a constant topic in family conversations, but the other big topic had been Ron's monologues explaining how damned cool Hermione was and that a certain Bulgarian “pumpkin head” didn't deserve her at all. They used to end with the twins placed one on each side of a red Ronald in rage, while imitating a pair of languid-looking violinists, playing a romantic tune.
“Don't go down that road, Ginevra. As far as I'm concerned, your brother has ceased to exist. I'm not going to let him keep hurting me one way or another”, Hermione interrupted her as she proudly raised her chin and passed a sleeve of his school sweater over her face to clean it. “He was the one who started treating me like dragon dung after I invited him to the Slughorns party and I don't even know why. I can't remember anything I could have offended him about and I don't care anymore. As far as I'm concerned, he can take Lavender and do whatever he likes with her.”
Ginny could hear the tremor in Hermione's voice when she made her last statement, but she couldn't tell her that not for a moment had she managed to fool her with that bombastic claim that she didn't care at all what Ron and Lavender did together, because a feeling drowned out her own voice. A feeling called. . . remorse.
“In fact. . .” Her words escaped in a whisper from between her lips as her gaze rested on her own shoes.
Hermione stopped her walk when she saw Ginny to stop. Even through the veil of tears that covered her eyes, she could sense that something was wrong with Ginny.
“Ginny, what. . . ?”
“In fact”, She took every ounce of courage to lift her eyes off the ground to face her friend's, knowing that what was coming now would have frightening, unknown, and possibly disastrous consequences. “I think you should know that not Ron’s entire fault.”
For months, Ginny had been carrying guilt about what happened between Hermione and her brother. She knew that Ron had processed in the worst possible way the information that she had let slip. No doubt her passionate brother was ultimately responsible for the entire aftermath, yes, but there was no denying that her indiscretion had been the trigger for everything that had happened afterwards.
“Ginny. What do you mean?” Something shook in Hermione's gut. Something dark and slimy, like a premonition that something terrible was coming, something that made her afraid to know the answer.
“Hermione… you see… a few months ago Harry surprised me when I was snogging Dean behind a tapestry.”
“Well”. For a moment she hoped that that awful feeling of apprehension was just her imagination. “I don't think Harry liked that very much and I understand that you felt uncomfortable, but I don't understand how. . .” but when she saw Ginny Wesley’s serious face, that hope vanished like sea foam.
“Ron was with him.”
A freezing cold ran down Hermione Granger's spine, making her wince while her heart seemed to have missed a beat.
“Wh-what else happened, Ginny?”
“Ron… well, you know how overprotective he is… he burst into a speech about my reputation, what everyone would think of me, and practically called me a scarlet slut”. Ginny blushed furiously as she remembered the whole incident. “I finally told him there was nothing wrong with it. I made fun of him that he wished Fleur would kiss his cheek and that his best kiss had come from Aunt Muriel”. Her voice seemed to raise an octave at a time as she was telling it, as if the memory were recreating the anger she felt against her meddlesome brother at that moment. “That everyone was doing it and enjoying it except him. I teased him and told him, if he kissed Pigwidgeon, Harry kissed Cho, and you. . .” Ginny was interrupted at that moment when she realized the look full of pain and betrayal that Hermione was giving her with all her intensity.
“Say it, Ginevra Weasley”. An acidic poison filtered through her words as she waited for the statement that would confirm what her heart already knew.
“You kissed Viktor”, she finished, in a whisper.
And there it all was. Hermione felt her eyes fill with tears as her tiny body shook with rage. The ultimate reason for her broken heart and her pain, for her frustration and her bitterness, for the caresses and kisses that were denied her and given to another, for the worst months of her live in short, was finally before her.
Feeling the bile rise in her throat she began to turn around to run to a toilet where she could vomit when she felt her elbow being caught as she listened:
“Hermione, I. . . I'm sorry.”
That was already more than he could bear.
“Are you sorry? You, who call yourself my best friend, do you feel sorry?” For months she had been containing all her feelings of pain, resentment and hate under a seemingly flawless facade, but Ginny's confession had caused a rift and all that steam that had now found a weak spot was uncontainable. “And what exactly are you sorry for, Ginny? Are you sorry you didn't tell me so I could have tried to fix it at the time? Or are you sorry you to stole my hope and my chance for happiness? Or maybe are you sorry you didn't keep Dean's tongue inside your big mouth and avoid destroying everything”, she said as he trembled with anger and pain, feeling the magic crackling between her fingers, asking for permission to claim her wand and curse the redheaded traitor.
“You knew how I felt about your brother”, her face reddened with pure fury, as her eyes filled with the tears of broken hope. “You knew I was afraid of how Ron would react if he found out about Viktor. I begged you, I pleaded with you to keep it a secret“, her voice began to break. “I supported, comforted and suggest you when you were a nervous wreck with Harry. I defended you so that your brothers would not leave you behind and take you out of danger like a weak little girl unable to defend herself. I put my heart in your hands and my trust in your silence and you… you betrayed it all because you couldn't control your temper when they stopped you having a goddamn shag with your boyfriend?”
Okay. Hermione had overstepped the mark. Ginny wasn't a Weasley for nothing. She understood that she was broken by the pain, but it was also true that she needed to learn something and, by Merlin! She was going to learn it! Even if it meant casting a full-body binding spell on her! The pain and remorse for the involuntary betrayal of her friend was not the only thing on Ginny Wesley’s conscience. There was also something else, and it was time to bring it out into the open.
“It was your fault that you and Ron never got anywhere too, Granger! I'm sorry, but that was”. Hermione felt as if the previous insult had been added to a slap. Not only was the charge harsh, but Ginny had used her last name, something that only happened when she was particularly angry. She wanted to answer, but she didn't have time to reply before the temperamental redhead started talking again without taking her eyes off the stunned prefect.
“Do you ever really wonder why he's with Lavender and not with you? Have you ever really tried to put yourself in his shoes to understand what he saw in her or what she offered him and that you never gave him?”
Hermione felt again the taste of bile rise in her throat and only the anger that burned inside her like hellfire prevented her from vomiting right there.
“Sex! That hooker is shagging him. . .” escaped between her teeth in a hiss so low and so loaded with hate and contempt that it seemed pure poison.
“For Merlin’s beard!” Hermione was surprised to find Ginny who rolled her eyes in obvious disbelief. “Do you really think Ron's with her because they're fucking like rabbits, Hermione? Merlin! I knew Ron was a tough cookie, but I think you could give him a run for his”. Her eyes fell back on the increasingly stupefied, frizzy-haired witch.
“And, when were they supposed to start ‘copulating’, Hermione?”Ginny made an obscene gesture with both hands and a finger. “He was stuck with you from the time the course started until the day you decided to stop talking to him. You shared classes; you shared patrols around the school. He had the quidditch training sessions. When he was in the common room he was joking or slaughtering Harry at chess and when it was neither of those things, he was with you in the library begging you to help him with his homework. So unless he has a time-turner or is sneaking out at night, can you tell me what time of day he takes to sneak out and to shagging Lavender into the wall?” Ginny thought her explanation had made the point, but as she watched the brunette's frown grow into a gesture of intense concentration she could not help but be horrified.
“I can't believe it!” She raised her arms to the incredulous sky. “You're really considering what I said? Well, I have to tell you something, genius! Two people are needed for that activity. Did you ever see Lavender mysteriously disappear before all this mess and, come back dishevelled, with hickeys or looking appropriately fucked?”
Ginny was reassured to see the light of sanity in Hermione's eyes again, but this was quickly replaced with a deep sadness that obscured her gaze.
“So, if it wasn't the sex, I don't know what you mean, Ginny. I understand what he sees in her. Lavender is everything I'm not physically, but I've been her friend since first year. I thought he would appreciate that much more.”
Ginny's disbelief in Hermione's blindness was reaching cosmic proportions.
“Exactly! That's what he sees. To a woman who offers him the attention of a friend and sometimes less than that. He has never seen from you any attention or, Merlin, not so much as a compliment’ that reflects more than friendship for him, Hermione!” she spat while the other girl seemed to look like a victim of a stunning spell, but Ginny pressed on, determined not to give Hermione any chance to replicate.
“You never told him he was worth it! A mention at the end of the third year after Sirius broke his leg, and little else! Never as quidditch player. Damn it! You didn't even see him in his victory last year, when he was the star of the game without being, for once, under Harry's shadow, grounded by the disgusting toad. No. You left with Hagrid. You ignored him again. He understands you putting him behind Harry, but Hagrid? For Merlin’s sake, Hermione”, the temperamental redhead put her hands on her hips, meanwhile she went back to her bewildered friend again. “You've seen his performance in DA. He's the best duellist after Harry. He only fails when he's confronted with you. The poor jerk is not even able to hold his wand properly when he has your image in front of him. . .” a mischievous smile slips on Ginny's face for the first time. . . “in your presence, at least.”
Hermione's jaw dropped and her eyes opened wide as a furious blush covered her cheeks at the prying comment of the meddling sister, and her heart seemed to go crazy in her chest when she wonders what she meant and one, not at all honest, image of Ron “wand in hand” seems to venture into her mind, causing a shudder in her belly.
But before she can revel in it, the truce given by the youngest of the Weasleys concludes.
“Did you ever tell him he was a good wizard? No; not like a friend, not like a partner, but a WIZARD. Did you ever really fight for him?”
Ginny was sorry. It really pained her to yell at her best friend that way, especially when she saw Hermione’s face in pain. It was one thing to launch an offense of the moment and quite another to proceed with a full-blown assault, but it was too late. A dam had been broken and the torrent was already uncontrollable, moreover. Some things needed to be said and done, no matter how much they might hurt and perhaps make them look.
“Lavender did it! She noticed a wizard she liked, she found him funny, she found him fanciable, handsome, worthy of being shown off as her boyfriend and who knows what else in my dumb brother, and she showed her! That's why you lost him. Because you drowned in your own insecurity and fed his! And it won't be because you didn't have more than one warning!” Her eyes narrowed as she stared at her know-it-all friend.
“Do you really think that Padma Patil, proud Ravenclaw and one of the most beautiful girls in the whole school, didn't have other suitors for the Yule Ball? Or... Are you seriously going to argue that you didn’t notice how Luna was staring at him all of last year?
It was as if Hermione had been hit with a stinging spell. Of course! She had noticed the sustained glances the grey-eyed blonde had given Ron and the conversations she seemed to be looking for when the meeting was over. Although compared to what she felt against Lavender it was a trifle, that time was definitely when she felt the green-eyed monster establish a permanent camp in his heart.
“You can be thankful that he's completely clueless, or he could’ve ended up giving his heart to someone a long time ago”, she said with a suggestive eyebrow.
“But no. You decided to stay in no-man-land, with no initiative, ignoring warnings. Perhaps thinking… no, hoping… that no one else would notice him. Obviously, he won't have a second look from Madame Rosmerta right now and you might even find it comical to remember the Yule Ball incident with Fleur, but if you took a moment to reflect on who Fleeeeeerg's fiancé is, you might find out what another Weasley looks like”, she said with an eyebrow raised again as one of the corners of his mouth seemed to rise in a mocking smile. “Maybe if she hadn't met Bill and Ron had gotten a couple more years to grow up. . . Well, Gabrielle is a Delacour too, is veela too and she's pretty cute, don't you think?” Ginny's smile looked awfully similar to George and Fred's when they were preparing some of their shenanigans against Ron. “Really I don't know, though. After all, my brother seems to have a thing for women “older..." with her fingers, she simulated the quotation marks“...that him.”
If Hermione's brain seemed to have been blocked with the information overload, her heart, which had seen all the signs! It seemed to have been used as the model in one of Professor McGonagall's classes and transformed into an angry hummingbird that buzzed in her chest protesting that it'd been silenced for so long and shouting I told you so!
“Maybe, deep down, you're still seeing the eleven-year-old boy you met on the train”, Hermione’s shoulders sank in resignation, “and you didn't realize that boy is long gone! Someone's here! Someone claimed him as her own! And now, you're learning the lesson he learned in fourth year: that one day someone could come along and take him away from you... FOREVER.”
That had been overwhelming. Hermione felt as if she had been caught in an avalanche and it was dragging her helplessly down the mountain, unable to resist its uncontrollable power.
“B. . . Bu...” she stuttered as she tried to pull herself together. “But I… I gave him clues. I invited him to Professor Slughorn's party; I kis... kissed him before the game. . .”
“On the cheek, damn it!” Ginny blew up, interrupting her. “Like if he was just a brother or a baby boy!”
“He hasn’t ever implied that he has any other interest in me”, her voice fell in a whisper that did not even seem to have the strength to convince herself. “H... He called me a nightmare once.”
“Merlin’s beard, Hermione! He was an eleven-year-old boy who was overwhelmed by a girl who had read and memorized all the books of the first year before starting school and who in her first class of spells, casted a perfect spell on her first attempt when she didn't even know she was a witch until three months before.”
“Is that it, then?” If there was a daze before, it was now as if she were in the presence of a boggart facing her worst fears. “He thinks he must be with a pureblood because I am a freak who should have been a pitiful witch for being mugg-muggleborn and...” Her thoughts died on her lips when she suddenly found herself at the other side of Ginny's wand.
“Don't even complete that sentence, Granger,” Ginny's face had become so red that it was practically purple. “Don't even think about completing it”, she hissed. “Ron may be too blind to see what's right in front of his eyes, but I won't have you insulting my brother like that”. Her voice is practically vibrating with wrath. “You didn't see him completely devastated at your bedside after the raid on the mystery department, nor when he came, every night! To watch over you when the basilisk petrified you, back in your second year!”, Hermione's eyes open wide as a moan escapes her chest at the revelation, but the redhead is not finished with her.
“Did you know he confronted McGonagall and Mrs Pomfrey when they wanted to force him to stop visiting you? That he fought a giant spider for you? Don't you remember when he spent an afternoon throwing up slugs for you? Yeah. He may be a more of an oblivious prat than anyone else I know, but his heart has always been in the right place. Maybe the problem is that there's more than oblivious prat round here.”
“You always told him that Krum was just a friend, but you never told him that you did NOT love Viktor and you didn't know or didn't want, to caught him between the rock and the wand and ask him: Why are you jealous? and force him to confess. With all the stupid fights you have all the time! The most important was the one you didn't provoke it, when you know, Ron works best with a direct approach and is very insecure under the shadow of his brothers, but there are more so”.
“Your pride got the better of you and you never told him you were Krum's Yule’s Ball partner. If you had told him, he might have had more time to deal with it. But you didn’t. Without wanting to, you rubbed it in his face and you never stopped to think that when he saw you on Krum’s arm, before the jealousy, he must have felt that you didn’t trust him.”
“You didn't realize, I'll give you that”, she raised her hand before Hermione can even hear the whole sentence, “you were always comparing him to Harry. . . Harry, the handsome one. . . Harry, who grew up so much last summer. . . Harry, with his manly scars. . . Harry, the bloke... Harry, the fanciable one. . . Harry, the great teacher. . . Harry, who kissed Cho “in a more than satisfactory way. . . Harry, who you never accused of being an insensitive wart or of having the emotional range of a teaspoon. . . even though Harry is as blind and made the same mistakes, if not bigger, about girls, as Ron”, the redhead's voice broke for one moment.
“Yes. You invited him to Professor Horace's party, but do you remember how you did it? You didn't tell him that you want to go with him, but, that guests were allowed to bring companions and that you had planned to invite him. How do you think that sounded to him? Perhaps, like an act of mercy towards the mediocre friend of The Chosen One and The most brilliant witch of her generation, The Slug Club’s honour guests?” Ginny questioned Hermione with a look. “You told me how excited you were to have quality time with him at Grimmauld Place before Harry came, remember? You told me and only because I had you over a barrel, but did you ever tell him? How happy you were to be able to share some quality time, you with him? Have you realized that he always invited you to our home, but you never invited him to yours?”
“And finally”, Ginny's pupils were so high that it looked like her eyes were going to roll back on themselves, “the icing on the cake. Instead of telling him he wouldn't have needed the Felix potion, because you were sure he would be able to play an extraordinary game on his own, you attacked him for using it. A perfect continuation of what happened in the summer before fifth year. Who was elected prefect, Hermione? It was Harry, wasn't it?”
Hermione felt as if a stone had been tied to her feet and thrown into the coldest dungeon. Ginny had laid out the facts in a cold, one-on-one manner, as if she were a court prosecutor giving her an overview she had never acknowledged before. But of all that, what hurt her most, it was the mention of Ron's prefecture. She would have been happy to give up her soul in order to correct that terrible mistake and, even then, the implacable redhead did not seem to have finished with her.
“And you can still be thankful he doesn't know what you did with McLaggen in the keeper trials”. As soon as she heard her, she was no longer hopelessly abandoned in a dirty dungeon, but her hands were tied behind her back, a bag was placed over her head and she was thrown into the sea as she sank irretrievably into an abyss that did not allow her to breathe. “Harry just used a mind trick on him. He made him to think he was invincible because Harry had cheated, but. . . YOU DID IT! Can you imagine what it'd do to his self-esteem if he found out about that? That would make him see that you see him as useless. Like a snotty baby who needs to be helped to walk, unable to do anything good by himself. . .”
“IT'S A ROTTEN LIE!” The burst of the heartbreaking scream gave way to uncontrollable crying. The grief that had gradually set in Hermione's chest could no longer be contained and she could no longer bear it. “It has never been like that”, a whiny whisper escaped her lips before she put her hands over her face and felt herself falling to her knees on the cold stone.
“It's never been like this.” If seeing Ron with Lavender had been like having her heart ripped out of her chest, Ginny had ripped her soul out like a dementor leaving her hollow, empty inside. In the last remnants of her sanity she wondered if all the Weasley siblings had the gift of cruelty.
“He's extraordinary”. She sobbed. “He doesn't realize it, but he is and that frustrates me so much”, she confessed. “He doesn't realize it, but I see it. I've been watching it ever since I saw that long and gawky redheaded guy with dirt on his nose. He was adorable when he tried to do magic with Pettigrew trying to turn him yellow. Why do you think it hurt me so much to be called a nightmare, when I had been called worse things in my old muggle school?”
Now the surprise had changed sides and it was the redheaded Weasley who was left with her eyes wide open as she felt the longing in her friend's voice.
“Because it was him who told me!” She almost screamed, raising her face to the sky to confront her inquisitor. “I wouldn't have cared if the insult came from anyone else! I was already ignoring the “know-it-all”, “cactus-head” and “beaver-toothed” comments that some were giving me, but I didn't care about him. I wanted to be his friend. His friend! That's why I was willing to lie to McGonagall!”
The crying had finally stopped and as she focused her inflamed, red eyes on her best friend, they began to glow with the passion behind them.
“Do you really think I don't see the kind of extraordinary wizard. . .? NO!” She interrupted herself and there was real pride in her voice now.
“Not because he's wizard! It would be exactly the same if he were muggle. Do you think I don't see the kind of extraordinary MAN he's meant to be as long as he has a little more confidence in himself?” She had raised her chin now when pride in her best friend had surged over her chest threatening to pop the buttons on her shirt while, the vocal inflection she imprinted when she referred to him as man made a chill run down Ginny's back from the back of her neck to where her back loses its honest name.
No. That was not desire only. It was much more! It was a wild wish. Primary and possessive like the predator that stalks its prey. Ginny had no doubt that if at that moment her carefree brother had turned up there; despite her anger, despite her spite, Hermione would have cornered him against the wall and ridden him like a wild beast marking him as her own forever, and yet the temperamental redhead grasped something else. Underneath that entire wish, there was something else. Something she knew but had never understood in its fair measure until then.
Love.
A love so immeasurable and desperate that it could consume all the lives that Hermione Jean Granger could live.
“Do you think I haven't seen how loyal he is? Do you think I don't see the gratitude he professes for Harry since he chose him over Malfoy before he was classified?” Hermione had lost all inhibition and stood proudly on the ground. She had been accused without knowing the fullness of her feelings for Ron. Good. So be it. In return, she would bare her soul and burn everyone who saw it with the burning radiance of her love for him.
“Ronald would be able to go down to hell with one arm tied behind his back if Harry asked him to. Yes, that's right. I didn't know about the acromantula affair or his confrontation with the teachers, but knowing that doesn't change what I feel, because that's not the fear that nests in my heart. No”, she said as she nodded her head. “My terror is not to know what or how many more times he's done it. I saw him standing front of Sirius, battered, bleeding, with a broken leg,... no wand and willing to be an insurmountable wall between Harry and me. Willing to drop dead rather than let him pass”, his proud pose now cracks and for a moment his body trembles, but she pulls herself together. Her face hardens again and her gaze returns to her best and most painfully sincere friend.
“No Ginevra. That's not what grips my heart and squeezes it like a black claw. I am not afraid of all he has done, because he has done it, it is past and now he is here, safe and with me. What terrifies me is what he will do”, an atom of understanding appears in the eyes of the redhead what is quickly replaced with fear when she comes to understand all the consequences of Hermione's point. “I know it. One day he'll come between me and a deadly curse and he will be taken from me by it, Ginny. He'll be ripped away from me and there's nothing I can do to stop him”. There was so much love in Hermione's eyes, so much devotion, so much pride and so much despair that Ginny's heart trembles as she notices the moisture flooding her own eyes.
“And I don't need that to love him. I used to do it before all that. It just makes me love him even more. With such intensity and such desperation that it hurts Ginny. It really hurts”. Tears now roll freely down both women's faces.
“Do you think I don't know that he sees himself as stupid, ignorant and mediocre in everything? But I've seen him beat McGonagall when he was twelve. I have seen him develop a brilliant strategy to protect Harry and me with the cost of his own life on a deadly chessboard”, again her voice trembled, as she relived in her mind that horrible scene of Ron being brutally beaten by the queen while for the second time, the youngest of the Weasleys regretted opening her big mouth and how similar she was to her closest brother.
“You're saying I don't realize his magical abilities? That, I can't see that he's with the same level as Harry? But have you noticed how much better a wizard he is than I am?” Hermione has a dark satisfaction in watching Ginny's wide open eyes. She, who has accused her of despising her brother, is not innocent of the same sin.
“He hardly studies. He falls asleep in all the history of Magic classes, is always late to write his essays. . . So what? He is able to perform any spell once he has seen the technique; he doesn't even need to study it. I can’t see it before, but I understood it at the end of last year. He doesn't give a damn about any data or magic that has no practical application. Now he causes hilarity because in class of transformations he invoked a huge moustache when the spell failed”, a sad smile comes to her face when she remembers the scene. “But when he finds out how useful they can be in hiding from the Deatheaters, to do body transformations will be like breathing for him”. Hermione pauses for a moment, as if needing to rearrange his thoughts after his vehement exposure, and on his serious face, an ironic smile is drawn.
“So, how did he feel overwhelmed by me when I levitated a quill at Professor Flitwick's class?” And now it was the fire of defiance that burns in her eyes when she turns to Ginny.
“He used ‘Wingardium Leviosa’ to knock out a mountain with its own club in the middle of a combat to death” And just in that moment, Ginevra Molly Weasley realized that in front of her was not a haughty Hermione Jean Granger, but the still unconscious Ron Weasley’s wife in fiery and proud vindication of her husband.
“The only problem is his damn insecurity”, there was a hint of sadness in her voice now. “He feels so inadequate under the shadow of all of you that, God! Sometimes I feel in my fingers the magic to curse all of you for having contributed to that. But when he is safe, when he is calm, when he does not feel the need to prove himself to anyone, when he does not have time to think or when no one sees him, he is amazing. I. . . I only cause him to he see himself as he is, as the others see him, as Luna see him!” She sobs. “There's not a more beloved prefect in the whole school! Every time a student has a problem, they go after him. It doesn't matter what house they are. Everyone knows they can count on him. Did you know that I learned the names of all the students of Gryffindor from him, Ginny?” Surprised, she shakes her head without saying a word. She was intensely aware that she shouldn’t interrupt Hermione's cathartic process now. “He knows the names of all the students in the lower years of Gryffindor. I imagine that even the sixth and seventh years and everyone goes to him when they have a problem in their real life or get into a mess. Not like me, they only come to me when they have problems with their homework and they do it not because he is soft or he will not punish them. I've seen him put such imaginative and appropriate punishments that would make McGonagall want to adopt him! No, it's nothing like that. It is because he understands them and helps them when they really need it, but he is so convinced that he is mediocre, he is so afraid to fail that he simply suffocates herself and slips up because of it”.
“That's why he didn't ask you to be his date at the Yule Ball”, Hermione is surprised when Ginny takes the floor again. There's no reproach in her tone now, just warmth. “That idiot, he was dying to invite you. Believe me, I know”. Ginny raised her hand gently to Hermione's threat of interruption, who had opened her mouth to give her the counterpoint.
“But he was terrified, Hermione. He couldn’t just see you as his best friend anymore to become someone he likes in the romantic sense of the word. The poor idiot wanted to hide it saying those silly things about going with the prettiest girl, or that since you both didn't have a partner you could go together and all that dragon shit”, she said, raising her hands and rolling her eyes at the same time, “and you saw how it ended that night. He went with one of the two most beautiful, exotic and noticed girls in the school, but he didn't dance her, he didn't give her a compliment, he didn’t give her a glance, because of how jealous he was of Viktor Krum.”
Ginny had taken the hand of the brunette with the furious hair and red eyes in front of her. All the initial frustration had faded as she discovered the intensity of Hermione's feelings for her brother, and now she just wanted to give her the comfort she really needed. To be the friend she was supposed to be.
Hermione, on the other hand, was devastated. If physically this confrontation added to her exhaustion from the last few days, emotionally she was a broken doll, and the tears that ran down her cheeks were the irrefutable proof of that. She felt her legs fail her and let herself slide down the wall of the corridor until she was seated on the hard floor of the castle. In a moment of rage and pain, she had opened the doors of her heart wide to her best friend. She had taken out of her chest all that anger and pain that she had been feeling for months and now, instead of a little peace, what she found was an immense emptiness, a darkness so dark that she was surprised that her heart continued beating, because seemed that it was only fed with that anger and now, in its absence, it found no sense to continue beating.
Her silent crying was interrupted for a moment when she felt her friend sit beside her and wrap her in a warm hug. There was no hostility there anymore, just warmth and an offer of comfort that she accepted crying out loud.
“I had bought a new dress for the slug meeting”, she whispered between hiccups and sobs after a moment. “Since I couldn't have that ball with him, I wanted, oh God!” She sighed. “I… I really wanted to have a real first date with him that was perfect. I even intended to be much more aggressive...”, a sad smile escaped her lips that broke Ginny's heart when she saw it“... with him that night. I even thought about having a couple of drinks to loosen up a bit and make it easier”. The longing in her eyes made the youngest of the Weasleys understand the double meaning of the phrase when she heard it. “And, what happened, Ginny? I missed his first kiss and I lost him.”
“Then you know what you have to do when that pair of squids break off”. The freckled redhead had genuine love in her eyes when she said it and gently pressed her hug when the brunette looked at her with a face of disbelief.
“Oh, come on! Don't look so surprised, Hermione. That relationship won't last. Ron is not comfortable with Lavender. It's true that she has improved his self-esteem, but he doesn't love her. There's got to be a lot more than kissing in a relationship with Ron. He needs passion, vehemence, fire. There has to be someone to incite him, to challenge him, to cause him to be better, do you remember?" She said, raising his eyebrows as she wrote “quotations marks" with her fingers.
“He needs you.”
That says it all. The two join into a comforting embrace, each resting her head on the other's shoulder, and while the only daughter of the Weasley clan feels the moisture seeping through her sweater and the tremor of her disheartened friend, this one can barely hear the “stupid blindness” that Ginny mumbles.
“Miss Weasley, Miss Granger! What are you supposed to be doing at this time outside their common room?”
Sitting on the floor, Ginny was stupefied for a moment and then, the next moment, she burst out laughing uncontrollably, causing her hands to fall to her ribs as she rolled on the floor in a very undignified position, seeing how “by magic", the “perfect prefect” seems to have apparate standing next to the head of the house, defying the rule that she has repeated countless times, ‘No one can apparate at the Hogwarts grounds...’
“Miss...Miss Weasley! Just what is so funny. . . ?” But the redheads uncontrollable laughter interrupted her.
Meanwhile, at the same time Ginny tried to point her trembling finger at one Hermione Granger, who seemed to have inherited the Weasley superpower to redness to the point of spontaneous combustion.
“Miss Weasley”, without losing her composure in the face of the unusual scene, Minerva McGonagall tried to take control of the bewildering picture, although in reality she didn’t seem in the least surprised. “Please pull yourself together, stand up! I hope you have a satisfactory explanation for your behaviour.”
“Prof... Professor” , Hermione's timid attempt is again interrupted, with another roaring laugh from Ginny, who can barely stand on her shaky legs as she kept pointing at her friend and her face seemed to be about to split in two for a grinning from ear to ear.
“Shit on it, Hermione! For Merlin's sake. . .”
“Miss Weasley!”
“Just a moment ago...” Ginny seemed to ignore the presence of the transformation teacher as she continued her jocular chatter “...you were talking about how to try and relax, so you could have the courage to face Ro. . . the ‘asshole’ and do what you want and, as soon as Professor McGonagall appears, you jump up and down and get stiff as if a stick had been shoved up your arse? What. . .”
“MISS WEASLEY!” At this moment the teacher's face looked absolutely horrified with the colourful language from the youngest of the Weasley family.
“Ginny. I sincerely believe that this is not the time. . .”Whispered a brunette with her hair more frizzy than ever, as she threw an Avada Kedavraish look at her shameless friend who, seemed to have either uncontrollable verbal incontinence or an unparalleled suicidal wish. Meanwhile Ginny continued to talk without realising it.
“Are you going to be just as stunned when he freezes and a trickle of slime when you “turn more aggressive with. . .”
“ENOUGH!” Raising both her voice and her hand in an energetic gesture that cannot be replied to Mc Gonnagall interrupted the diatribe and laughter of the fifth year student, who finally seemed to notice the presence of her teacher. “I don't really care anymore why you are out of their rooms after curfew and not even what it was all about”, she said, as she puts two finger to the bridge of her nose as if she had a terrible headache. “The point is that you both are contravening the rules of the school and therefore both deserve a detention”, provoking the immediate face of terror of the sixth year prefect.
“Miss Weasley. It's not just the fact you are wandering around the castle after hours, doing who knows what? But I will not consent to the use of such vulgar and rude language in my presence. So, next Friday, you will report to Mr. Filch who will tell you which toilets to clean. . . no magic.”
“As for you, Miss Granger; I really cannot understand why you did not immediately accompany Miss Weasley to Gryffindor Tower neglecting your duties as prefect. Do you have anything to say that might excuse you?”
“Actually, I think I can, Professor McGonagall”, which provokes a gleam of curiosity in the glances now directed at her, from the punished student and the Transfiguration Professor simultaneously. “But it's not in my defence”, she says, looking up from her shoes, “but in the case of Ginevra Molly Weasley”, a perverse smile hints at Hermione's face that quickly becomes sweet, when she see a grimace of annoyance at her friend's as soon she was called with her full name. “Actually, I was having a problem focusing on one of my assignments and she offered me a new perspective”, she says just at the instant she turns away for a moment her eyes from her favourite teacher, to offer a warm smile to the stubborn redhead.
“Well, that's a commendable attitude no doubt, Miss Weasley”, for a moment the latter of them thinks she detects the flash of a smile on the teacher's face, but it's so fleeting that she thinks she's imagining it. “But both of you will understand that the corridors of Hogwarts at dawn are neither the place nor the time for such things, for which the sanctions are still in force. Are you both aware of this?”
“We are, Professor McGonagall.” They both answer together.
“Good. Gryffindor will be deducted ten points for each of you for being out of the common premises after curfew and Miss Weasley will be deducted another five points for inappropriate language. I would recommend that you do not reply, Miss Weasley”, she adds, seeing like the redhead was making the attempt to protest, “and thank Miss Granger for her defence. Initially I was planning to deduct another ten points.”
“I'll thank you very much, Hermione”, she mumbles in a buzzing tone that makes the target of her gratitude shudder imagining the kind of thank you that must be planning to give her the explosive temperament of the redhead. “All right. I think it's time for us to get back to the tower and get some rest for the rest of the night”, she says in a breath.
It was at the moment when both students have turned around and started to withdraw in the direction of Gryffindor Tower when:
“By the way. . .” the voice of the head of Gryffindor house forced them to turn around to face her again and find her with her back to them.
“I think that change of perspective will be very useful to you, Miss Granger”, she adds as she turns his head and stares over his glasses at the surprised prefect.
“Wha..Yeah?. . . err. Yes. I. . . I think it’ll be, professor. Yes, I'm sure it will be. Thank you very much”, stutters the dazed brunette meanwhile Ginny bit her hand in a desperate attempt not to burst into laughter once again.
“I expected no less from you, Miss Granger. You're dismissed.”
And so, while the two students of the renowned Hogwarts School of Magic and Sorcery, one of them in a state of shock and the other one barely able to contain her laughter, headed back to their tower, Professor McGonagall finally headed for her own quarters, the beginnings of a smile on her face:
“Fifty points for Gryffindor...” to his mind comes, the memory of the great dining room adorned in green and silver, while a venerable aged man with white beard speaks and one chubby and fearful child, listens astonished his words. '. . . It takes great courage to stand up to our enemies, but it takes the same courage to stand up to friends. . .' "Miss Weasley.”
The End.
Notes:
I would like to thank to the incredible @headcanonsandmore, for her invaluable help in completing the English version of the text. Without her, it really wouldn't have been possible. I think this is, so far, my best work, and if there's anyone it deserves to be dedicated to, it's you. Again, thank you very much for your help.
This is the work that, I really would have liked to present at the @romioneficfest 2020, but it turned out to be a bit long. . . more than 10 times longer, but... a lovelly Dragon, gave me a chance.
:)
Thanks to read.

Request: I feel like all fighting in imagines are the guy’s fault, but can you write something with Joe where it’s the reader who says something really awful to him that she doesn’t mean (like he’s replaceable or something like that) and he gets super sad so she has to make it up to him
Pairing: Joe Mazzello x Reader
Word count: 2665 (its long but i promise it is quite good)
Warning: So much angst and a fluffy ending, ALSO! it has a hint of smut but nothing really happens.
A/n: I am not sure how this ended being this long... but I truly hope you like it.

The light of your computer wasn’t helping with the massive headache you were having, and even if the pains was too strong you just couldn’t stop working, the paper you had to deliver was due tomorrow and just today you figured you had a terrible miscalculation that made almost everything incorrect in your results.
You were massaging your temples in hoped that that would stop the pain, but when you open your eyes, you noticed you were wrong, still, you sighed and continue typing and scribbling some data you might need.
“Hey, love! I am home,” you hear Joe arrive home, as much as you love him, you weren’t able to stop the load groan that left your lips “don’t be that excited that I am here.”
You smile sarcastically at him before you continue writing some more notes, you were almost sure Joe left you alone until you heard him talk again.
“Someone is in a mood,” he joked hoping that would make you crack a genuine smile, but the only thing you did was sigh even more exasperated “okay… oh, I almost forgot, I invited the guys to have some drinks later tonight.”
“No!” You yelled standing up and looking at Joe hoping your gaze would be enough to make him cancel his planes.
“What?” Joe question you as he started to lost his patience with you.
“I am busy and when you invite your friends they always make a mess, and they are so loud,” you said rolling your eyes and rubbing your temples again, shouting at him wasn’t helping at all and at this moment all you wanted was to go to your room wrap yourself around a blanket and sleep till morning, but that seemed so impossible right now.
“Well… every time my friends come you adore them, and you always say you have such a great time with them.”
“But now I am having a headache and shit tonnes of work to do, so if you and your friends could fuck off that would be great,” you spat as you let yourself fall into the chair again.
For a moment no one said anything more, so without even thinking about it continue with your work, it seemed that you were heading somewhere when Joe started talking again making you lost all concentration.
“So because you are having a headache now you have the right to be a total bitch?” Joe didn’t raise his voice, but his tone had clearly changed which made you more annoyed cause now it was obvious there would be a fight.
“I have the right to be a bitch because I have a headache, I have so much fucking work to do and now my boyfriend will bring his fucking friends to interrupt me and make my life even harder just so you could have some drinks,” as you were speaking you threw your pencil into the table and move closer to Joe with your face full of anger.
“You know? You could just ask me to meet them somewhere else,” Joe mutter taking a few steps towards you to meet you halfway.
“Then do that!” You yelled frustrated at how this fight was taking so much of the time you didn’t have.
“Ask nicely!” Joe said through gritted teeth.
“Just fucking go!” You yelled feeling some tears roll down your face from the frustration and the pain you were feeling “go with your friends, so the moment they arrived to their country they will forget about you! Go with them and have a good time cause it clearly won’t last that long before they go and get incredible roles so, later on, they could forget about you cause you are just so fucking replaceable!”
Your breath was heavy, you suddenly felt nauseous so you sat back on your chair and rub your temples hoping that the pain would go away. You weren’t even able to process what you said to Joe, all you could feel was the pain and the pressure you had on.
After what felt forever you finally opened your eyes to find that Joe wasn’t there anymore, you sighed with content and continue doing your work.
It wasn’t until past midnight that you realize it would be impossible to have everything done, so you called your boss hoping you wouldn’t bother her that much.
“Hi y/n? Are you alright?” You heard your bosses voice from the other side of the line.
“Not really, I messed up some calculations and I am afraid the results will be delayed,” you explain, you had to hold your breath hoping that after you said that you would still have a job tomorrow.
“Okay, it’s fine,” you sighed and groan feeling a sharp pain that reminded you, you weren’t in your best conditions “are you having one of your headaches again?”
You sighed in response giving her the answer she needed.
“You should know better than to work when you aren’t feeling good,” your boss said making you chuckle though you knew she was right “go to bed you will have till the weekend to finish it.”
You truly couldn’t remember what happened next, all you knew was that you had some medicine and pass out on an empty and cold bed, you whine missing Joe, but before any other thought crossed your mind, you were already sleeping.
The moment you woke up you already knew Joe wasn’t there, you slowly open your eyes and thank when you noticed you didn't have a headache anymore, but the moment you remembered all the terrible stuff you said to Joe, you felt even worst that when you had a headache.
“Shit…” you mumbled rubbing your face hating yourself so much for being a complete asshole with the person that you love the most.
You look at your phone noticing that you had a couple of calls from Rami, Gwil and Ben, you bit your lip feeling awful about your actions and noticing those calls, you knew that Joe must have more drinks that he could handle.
It took you no time to be at the door ready to go apologies to the love of your life, though first, you made sure to buy a bouquet of roses, you knew it was cliche, but by giving him that, you were sure it would make him at least chuckle which would help you to win him back.
You knock twice at the hotel's room door where Ben and Gwil stayed, you were almost sure Joe was there too. The moment you heard Ben yelled some incoherent answer, you couldn’t help but hold your breath.
“Thanks! you are here!” Ben yelled the moment he saw you, a part of you froze cause you didn’t know if Joe told them the horrible thing you yelled at his best friends “why the flowers?… forget about it, come get your mess of a boyfriend.”
You follow Ben into the room, it was a nice suite, and a part of you want to wonder and appreciate every corner of it, but when you saw Joe laying in on if the couch clearly hangover, for a moment you stop until you heard him groan.
“I may be the last person you want to see, but I brought you a little ‘I’m sorry’ gift,” you said as you kneel to his side “but now I guess I should have brought an Advil.”
Joe smile when he saw the flowers, he wasn’t able to contain a chuckle when you said your joke, but he quickly erase that smile to look at you with clear anger, Joe sat on the couch though it seemed like a terrible choice cause now he had to grab the trash can to let it all out.
You placed the flowers on the couch and rubbed his back waiting for him to finish, you couldn’t help but bite your lips feeling more guilty as time went by.
The moment you were sure he was done, you grabbed his hand and guide him to one of the bathrooms, you grabbed a towel and started cleaning his face.
“You are crying,” Joe said as he cleans one of your tears.
“I can help doing it when I realize I am the worst girlfriend ever,” you mutter trying your best to keep smiling, but it broke when you saw Joe’s face looking at you “I am so sorry, Joe.”
Joe stud there looking at you, you weren’t able to hold his gaze, so you turn around to grab another towel.
“Look at me,” Joe stated as he moves behind you.
It took you some minutes to grab to courage to finally do it, and now that you were facing him you weren’t sure what to do or say anymore, the speech you prepared was banished from your mind, and all you had left was a dry mouth and tears rolling down your face.
“You don’t have a headache anymore?” Joe asked with genuine concern, you sob at how nice he still was with you after the trouble you made “y/n?”
“I am fine,” you mutter, your fingers were playing with the hem of your shirt since it was the only way you could let some stress out “what about you?”
“I could be better,” he mumbles with a small smile on his face.
“I truly didn’t mean what I said,” you spoke as you grab his hands “I have no excuse, no matter how much work I had or how bad I felt, I had no excuse for saying those horrible things when I know they aren’t true.”
“They aren’t?” You felt your heartbreak in a thousand pieces when Joe asked that.
You knew by his tone that he was really hurt, that your words cut deeply into him and that this time you truly screw thing really bad.
“Of course they aren’t,” you quickly argued, “you are the best person I had ever known, and everyone that gets to meet you knows that you are funny and kind, and so unforgettable because you are so fucking special, not just to me, but to everyone.”
At this point both of you were fully sobbing, it was hard to apologies when both of you were a wreck, but you needed to make sure Joe understood that what you said was the truth.
“I am so sorry and I hope that saying those words would make it all better, but I know it is not that easy,” you cupped his cheeks and tried your best to clean his tears “what can I do to make you believe me how important you are to me and how much I love you?”
“Just hold me,” Joe whispered, and without a question, you hugged him as tight as you could, you rubbed his back as you felt him shake underneath you, you took a deep breath and close your eyes feeling better by having him closer to you again.
“Joe?” You asked taking a step back to face him “Are you still hangover?”
He nod trying his best to hide how a terrible headache now he was having, you knew better though, so you just motion him to sit at the edge of the bathtub while you prepared it for him, you kissed the top of his head and walk outside to find a bottle of water and ask Ben or Gwil for some medicine, you shake your head when you find then cuddling in the sofa both snoring and clearly lost in their dreams. Still, you were able to find what you needed.
When you were back you smile at Joe and felt butterflies in your stomach the moment he smile back at you. You handed him the stuff you went looking for, and when you were sure he finished the bottle of water you stud in front of him.
“Do you want me to step outside while you take your clothes off?” You ask suddenly feeling nervous about being with him fully naked when you weren’t sure where you stud with him and your relationship.
“Don’t be silly,” Joe mumble as he started to take everything off, you bit your lip the moment you saw him only on his underwear “are you enjoying yourself?”
You chuckle at his comment and walk to his side to help him get into the tub, he sat there, a moan left his lips feeling so relaxed, you sat on the edge of the tub and started cleaning his hair, Joe moan again at the sensation which made your smile even bigger.
“Why don’t you join me?” Joe asked when you rubbed the soap on his arm, you look at him not sure if he was being serious about it “I will only accept your apologies if you join me.”
You rolled your eyes at his comment, but still you decided to oblige, you knew Joe was looking at every one of your movements, and when you finally were naked he extended his hand to help you get in, he made you stranded him, wanting you to be closer to him.
“That’s better,” Joe whispered moving a piece of your hair behind your ear.
“Are you feeling better?” You asked cleaning a bit of shampoo you left on his hair.
“Yes,” Joe whispered, he placed his arms around you to kept you even closer as he speaks “could you please stop overthinking.”
“I am not.”
“Yes, you are.”
It was hard to lie to Joe, you both knew each other so well. Your mind was overthinking your words and how hurtful they were, and Joe knew it, so you smile and lean closer to him, but before your mouth could touch his, you look at him waiting for his permission which he fully gives you.
“I am sorry,” you said again when the kiss ended, you look at him with sorry eyes as your fingers caressed his cheeks “I am so fucking sorry.”
“I told you that if you join me then I would forgive you,” Joe grabbed your hand and kissed your knuckle with such tenderness you would think he wasn’t hungover at all “and now you are here with me, so everything is fine… I promise.”
You kissed him again, this time harder, you wanted to feel him and be as close as possible to him, and Joe wanted that too, both of his hands were on your cheeks as yours were on the back of his neck. Suddenly it all turns really heated, you were sure things would continue going that way if someone didn’t knock on the bathroom door.
“Fuck off!” Joe yelled though that didn’t stop the other person from opening the door.
“I need to take a piss,” Ben responded, but he suddenly stops when he saw both of you clearly doing more than just taking a bath.
“Go to another one!” Joe yelled again as he tried to found something to throw to his friend.
“Fine! Fine! I’ll go!” Ben screamed, making his way out of there.
Joe and you stare at each other before you started laughing like two idiots, Joe then kissed your shoulder and look at you with soft eyes.
“Thanks for not telling them what I said to you,” you whispered trying your best not to let the guilt come back again.
“It’s our relationship, love,” Joe said with a kind smile “no one else gets to know what we do behind the door.”
“Well… I guess Ben already had a nice show of what we do,” you joked adoring when you hear Joe’s laugh, he kissed you once again before you both decided it was time to go out and head home.
“I love you so much, Joey,” you mutter when you help him get into his clothes again.
“I love you too, sunshine,” you laugh at the nickname which made Joe make a mental note to call you like that more often.

Little Clickbait Onesie
Description: David thinks his girlfriend is pregnant.
Requested?: Yes by @sizzlescott : can you do something with david where him and all of the vlog squad think you’re pregnant from a bunch of things that you’ve done recently which seem like symptoms of you being pregnant. then in the end you take a test and it’s negative. you have the flu
A/N: I really loved this concept, thank you for requesting it!
_______
She woke up nauseous. David was awakened to the sound of her puking into the toilet.
"Are you okay, baby?" He sat up, checking the time. It was way too early for him to be awake, considering he had only gone to bed 3 hours prior.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I probably just ate something bad." She reached for her toothbrush as she looked in the mirror. She was pale, a little too pale, and looked dreadfully tired. After brushing her teeth she went and got back in bed with her boyfriend. They slept for a while longer, finally waking up when Zane arrived.
"Are you two gonna sleep all day?" He poked his head in the door. David had been awake for about thirty minutes, but would rather stay with her for a while than go talk to all of his friends. He was also googling symptoms of pregnancy, and freaking himself out, and he didn't want his friends to notice.
"I'll be out in a minute, Zane." He replied, getting up to pee. The sound of the door shutting woke her up, and she realized how bad she really felt. This is usually how she would feel on her period, but her period stopped once she got on birth control.
She wrapped herself in a blanket and walked out into the living room. Carly, Zane, Jeff, and Joe were spread out across the living room. She sat in the LoveSac, checking her phone for the first time all day.
"Are you okay?" Carly asked her.
"Yeah, I just don't feel the best, but I'm fine." She smiled, trying to appear as if she felt okay.
"Do you want some breakfast? It'd help you to eat a little bit." Natalie popped out of the kitchen, bringing the smell of scrambled eggs with her. The smell of the eggs almost made y/n gag, but she held it together.
"Just some toast, if you don't mind. I've been craving toast for like three days." She smiled back. She contemplated getting up and puking again.
"You've been having cravings, too?" David didn't mean to let that slip out as he walked into the room.
"Doesn't everyone get cravings sometimes?" She tried to justify herself, understanding what he was implying.
"I'm just saying." He brought her a water bottle and a plate of toast with jam on it.
"Thank you." She tried to end the conversation. There was no way she was pregnant.
"Wait, do you think she-" Carly tried to ask, but y/n interrupted.
"I'm on birth control, I'm not pregnant." She was the first person to say the word out loud, making it sound a lot heavier.
"I don't know, this girl I went to high school with was on birth control, but she still got pregnant. She kept takin' the pills though, and she had a miscarraige." Jeff said.
"Oh my God, Jeff." Carly was freaked out by his story. Y/n was a lot more freaked out.
"Should I postmate a pregnancy test?" Zane asked. Her frustration was bubbling up inside of her.
"Can you all just stop! Goddamn." She stood up, putting the toast on the table and quickly making her way back to David's room. David grabbed the plate and followed closely behind, recognizing that he made a mistake by bringing it up.
"I'm sorry." He poked his head through the door as she lay face down on the bed. She sat up, ready to explode.
"Do you know how embarrassing it is for everybody to be guessing if you're pregnant? It's a conversation you and I need to have before you go guessing about it to our friends. I'm not pregnant, and even if I am I would want to tell everyone in a cute fun way and be happy about it, not miserable with morning sickness or whatever. Also, do you realize how fucking serious being pregnant is, David? You can't even take care of a goldfish, and you wanna raise a kid? Just leave me alone for a little bit." She laid back down, starting to cry. David thought to himself about mood swings, and rubbed her back with his hand as she cried. He hated seeing her like this.
"I'm sorry." He repeated himself. "Do you want me to go get a pregnancy test, to make sure?" His voice was quiet, he didn't wanna upset her even more.
"No, I'll go." She wiped her tears as she sat up and scooted off the bed.
"Can I come with you?" He asked, genuinely wanting to be there for her.
"No, David. I'm still mad at you." She walked into the bathroom and started the shower. "When was the last time we had sex, anyway? Like a week ago right? I wouldn't have symptoms that fast." She stripped her clothes off.
"Okay but we also had sex about a month ago, don't you start getting symptoms at a month?" He reminded her, subtly admiring her body.
"Yeah, I guess so." She hopped in the shower as David walked out of the bedroom, shutting the door behind him.
Once she was clean and dressed, she grabbed her wallet and phone and went to find Natalie. She peaked into Nat's room and saw her there, typing away on her laptop.
"Hey, will you come with me to CVS?" She asked. Natalie smiled back at her and nodded, grabbing her shoes and her keys.
The two girls walked out into the living room, ignoring everyone as they left the house. They got in Nat's Mercedez and headed off to the drugstore. Y/n couldn't help but feel nauseous on the ride over.
"Are you sure you're not pregnant?" Natalie asked her.
"No, that's why we're going to get the test, but I really don't think I am." She explained to her friend as they pulled into the parking lot. They walked inside, and y/n immediately noticed there was a minute clinic.
"I should go see if anyone's there, maybe I just have a stomach bug or something." They headed towards the little clinic and filled out the survey you have to take before seeing somebody.
"I never knew these places were so fancy, they have, like, examination rooms and everything." Natalie commented, sitting down on a bench.
"Y/n?" A doctor stuck her head out the door of the little examination room. Y/n stood and walked into the room, leaving Natalie outside. After about fifteen minutes, she walked out of the room with some papers in her hands.
"So?" Natalie asked, standing up and putting her phone in her pocket.
Back at David's house, they filmed little bits, but everyone kept talking about the fact that y/n might be pregnant. It had also come up in one of the groupchats, the rumor spreading to the rest of the vlog squad.
David was more anxious than usual. The thing she said earlier about him not even being able to care for a fish really struck a chord with him. How would he be able to take care of a human child? He would learn though. He's always wanted to be a dad. The door opened and he immediately ran to her.
"Did you take a test yet?" He looked at the plastic CVS bag in her hands.
"No." She walked past him, just pretending to be pissed now that she had devised a plan. She and Natalie went into Nat's bedroom and locked the door. Everyone stood outside the door, trying to hear what they were discussing. The two girls made their way into Natalie's bathroom, stifling their words as much as they could. Natalie took the false positive pregnancy test out of its package, and y/n took the medicine for the small stomach bug she had, doing anything to make everyone else believe they were waiting the full 3 minutes for the test.
"I'm glad you're not pregnant, I would probably have to move out so you could turn my room into a nursery." Natalie whispered. Y/n flushed the toilet, covering her laughter with the sound of rushing water.
After three more agonizing minutes, the girls finally opened the bedroom door, watching everyone pretend they weren't standing there waiting for it to open.
"David, can I talk to you?" She held the fake pregnancy test in one hand, and pulled David into his bedroom with the other. "Close your eyes and hold out your hands." The couple sat on the bed.
"I know you have a pregnancy test, why do I need to close my eyes?" David questioned.
"Okay fine, whatever." She tossed the test at his chest, smiling as he read it.
"Holy shit. Holy shit!" He hugged her really tight, unable to comprehend his excitement. He knew it would be a big responsibility, but he thought he could handle it.
"Oh, I wouldn't get too close to me." She pushed David off of her.
"Why?" He questioned her, wondering what she meant.
"Because the stomach bug I have is probably contagious." She watched his face drop as he understood.
"So you're not pregnant?" He felt a deep sadness in his chest. Tears welled in his eyes.
"No. I wanted to teach you a lesson. Now you get to go tell all of our friends that I'm not pregnant, and that you got them all excited because you're an idiot." She felt a pain in her heart, its not like she knew he would be so sad. She thought he didn't want a kid. But she also couldn't watch her beautiful boyfriend cry. "And then when I feel better, we can make a real baby, and keep it between us, and film everybody's reactions, and use it for clickbait even though it won't be clickbait."
David smiled at the end, a tear rolling down his face. "Can we make it a little Clickbait onesie?" A soft chuckle escaped his lips.
"Yes, we can make it a little Clickbait onesie."

Don’t Embarrass Me
okay so i'm ngl i totally got this idea from vanderpump rules, but when i saw this part of the episode i couldn't help but imagine harry, y/n, and anne in this situation and how adorable it would be i hope you guys like it x
To say (y/n) was nervous was a complete understatement. She and Harry had been dating for about five months now, and they were getting pretty serious. They had even discussed moving in together within the near future, and Harry and even joked about them getting a dog together. Though she wasn't convinced it was a joke, but he swore it was. One day Harry was on the phone with his mother, and when the call ended Harry sat down next to (y/n) on the couch and smiled at her.
"Love, how would you like to meet my mum?" He asked giddily.
She looked at him in shock, and he immediately saw her becoming anxious.
"I mean, you don't have to quite yet if you aren't ready. It's just that she's coming to visit, so--"
"No, Harry, I'd love to," She reassured him.
"Oh, thank God," He sighed in relief, causing them both to laugh. "I was so nervous."
"That's the thing," She explained. "I've always wanted to meet her, I'm just super nervous about it. Like, what if she doesn't like me or something? I'd be so heartbroken,"
Harry pulled (y/n) into his arms and hugged her tightly. "There's no reason to be nervous. I know for a fact that she will absolutely adore you, just like her son does."
Soon, the day arrived, and no matter how many times Harry had told her she had nothing to worry about, she was still anxious and felt a tad nauseous. She desperately wanted Anne to like her, and couldn't shake the thought of things being super awkward, or her saying something wrong or stupid, or not being able to find the right words to say.
"Baby, I can tell that you're overthinking everything from over here."
Harry broke (y/n) out of her thoughts, and she sheepishly looked over at him as he stood in front of the mirror adjusting his tie.
"Ugh, I can't help it. I really want this to go well." She said defeatedly, walking over to him and looking at her reflection and rethinking her dress choice.
"And it will," He encouraged, taking her hands into his own. "My mum is a very kind, sweet, caring woman. I've told her tons about you and she's thrilled she finally gets to meet you. So breathe, it will all be fine."
She did as he said, breathing deeply and tried to calm her overwhelmed mind. They finished getting ready and then made their way to the restaurant they were meeting Anne at. (Y/n)'s stomach was filled with butterflies, and she realized the last time she was this nervous was when she was on her way to her and Harry's first date. As they were ushered to their table, they were met by a smiley Anne, who looked overjoyed to be seeing them.
"Oh my goodness, lovey, I swear you've grown since I've last seen you!" Anne cooed as she hugged her son as tightly as she could. "It's so good to see you!"
Harry chuckled, kissing her on the cheek. "I think I've been finished growing for quite some time, Mum. It's good to see you too."
Anne pulled away, then looked over at (y/n). "And you must be the (y/n) my son is always talking about!"
"That's me," (Y/n) laughed as Anne hugged her.
The three sat down at their table and ordered their drinks.
"It's so good to finally meet you," Anne said. "This one talks about you nonstop whenever we're on the phone."
Harry blushed. "I can't help it,"
"And you're just as beautiful as he told me you were," She complimented.
"Thank you," (Y/n) started blushing herself.
She then asked the basic questions, like where she was from, what job she had, and so on. (Y/n) felt her anxiety melt away as the conversation went on, and she was glad that Anne genuinely seemed interested in her and what she had to say. She started to see where Harry got his caring and compassionate nature from.
After the three of them had ordered their meal, Harry cleared his throat.
"So, here's the thing," He began. Anne and (y/n) looked at each other in surprise, then back at him.
"I have to go for a wee, but I just know that you both will take this opportunity to tell each other stories about me. So, I politely ask that you don't do that, or I'll be very upset."
Anne gave him a questioning look and he and (y/n) started cracking up.
"Son, you had me worried over that?!" She questioned. He shrugged, and before he could even reply, she said, "Just go, you dork."
"I will record you both while I'm gone," He warned playfully.
(Y/n) scoffed, swatting her hand at his arm. "Just go to the bathroom!"
"Don't embarrass me," He entreated, standing up from his seat. "Please, I'm begging you."
As he walked away, Anne gave (y/n) a mischievous look.
"Oh, that reminds me, there was this time when Harry was about... five I think? And he--"
"Mum!" Harry groaned, and (y/n) and Anne laughed at his dismay. He continued to walk away, picking up his speed.
As Harry entered the restroom, he felt a mixture of emotions. He was happy that things seemed to be going well, but he was also nervous himself because of the fact that his girlfriend and his mother were alone together for the first time.
Anne and (y/n) thought that Harry had been joking when he said that he was going to record their conversation while he was absent, but he sneakily placed his phone on his seat as he stood up, his voice memo app on and recording every word. Was it a bit strange that he had done that? Maybe. But he did it so he could know what exactly was said, they would probably choose to keep the conversation a secret between them, leaving him to his own thoughts and what ifs. He also did it so that he could have a fond memory of their first conversation alone, that he could look back on in the many years to come.
He finished his business and joined them back at the table, seeing that the food had arrived and the two of them were cracking up with tears in their eyes. Were they laughing at some story Anne had told (y/n) about his childhood? Or even worse, some story that (y/n) had decided to tell his mother.
Harry cleared his throat and the two directed their attention towards him.
"Hello, lovey! How was your trip to the restroom?" Anne teased.
Harry gave her a look, discreetly hitting the button on his screen to stop recording. "I see both of you are getting on well at my expense."
"Oh, if only you knew," Anne said as she winked at (y/n).
...
Back at Harry's, he and (y/n) were cuddled in bed, the tv playing some movie Harry didn't know the name of. (Y/n) had fallen asleep, and Harry's mind was on nothing but what had happened that day. Anne liked (y/n) just as much as knew she would, and the pair of them got along super well. He couldn't have been happier about how it all turned out. As he started to drift off to sleep, a thought popped into his head. He hadn't listened to the recording yet. He got out of bed as gently as he could, trying his best not to wake his girlfriend as he grabbed his phone and walked out onto the balcony attached to his room. The cold night air hit his skin, goosebumps forming as he rubbed his arms and shivered. He pulled up the recording on his phone, then took a deep breath as he pressed play. He skipped past the parts he had heard as he walked away, then pressed the bottom of his phone to his ear.
Anne sighed, shaking her head as she caught her breath. "Sometimes I worry about that son of mine."
"So do I," (y/n) agreed.
It got quiet for a moment, then Anne spoke up.
"You know, I could tell when you first got here that you were a bit nervous. But I'm glad to see that you're coming out of your shell."
(Y/n) exhaled, "Yeah, I'll be honest, I was pretty anxious about meeting you."
"There's no reason to be nervous, dear. I get that meeting someone's parent for the first time can be a bit nervewracking, but I promise you I'm not the type of mum that is rude towards their son's girlfriend for no reason. I can tell by the way he speaks of you and everything that you really care for one another. And if you make my son happy then that's all that matters. Besides, if you're as like me as he claims you are then I have no doubt we'll get on well."
(Y/n) chuckled. "Harry honestly means the world to me. And it may sound cliche, but he's not only my boyfriend, but my best friend. I couldn't picture my life without him. And I was so worried about today because I know how important you are to him, and I wanted your approval so badly."
"Well you definitely have it," Anne assured her. "One of the things that I want the most is someone for each of my children that love them as much as they possibly can, and makes them the happiest they've ever been. I can honestly say that you are that person for him, and I can't thank you enough for the joy you've brought my son."
"I'm so glad I get to be that for him, and he gets to be that for me." She replied.
"I could definitely see this going far, and I know that in the future you'll be the one to marry him. And I can't wait for that day." Anne said excitedly.
"Neither can I," (Y/n) beamed. "It'll be one of the best days of my life."
(Y/n) sniffled as she started to cry and Anne did the same, the two of them embracing each other in a hug. As they pulled away, Anne chuckled.
"Ah, enough crying, we're supposed to be embarrassing him."
"Oh, right!" (Y/n) laughed as well.
Harry could hear himself clearing his throat, and that was his cue that it was the end of the recording, so he stopped it. He felt a tear roll down his cheek as he smiled to himself. The whole time he was away he feared they would tell each other things that Harry wouldn't want the other to know about, but instead they had a wholesome conversation that filled his heart with love. He couldn't imagine it going any better than it did, and he was happy that two of the most important women in his life got along so well right from the start. He could picture them going on shopping trips together, having tea, and so many more adorable moments, and it made him smile so big that his face hurt.
He crawled back into bed, pulling (y/n) into him as he stared at her lovingly. He was really with the love of his life, and he was just excited for the day he would marry her as she and his mother were.
