Gift for @ghostgirlvii-art
Lunch with friends
Sans checked the bag, everything was packed. Diapers, teething ring, bottles, change of clothes in case of a mess and lastly a starry blanket. Papyrus may give him grief about being lazy sometimes but when it came to his siblings he never joked around. He zipped the bag up and sat back down on the couch, Papyrus was still getting ready. He flopped his head back, already feeling sleep coming on...he would have succumbed to it if not for the tiny bundle crawling on to his lap.
Opening one eye socket, watching a tiny skeleton crawl over his legs, turning to try and push their way behind him. Chuckling as he sat forward letting them crawl behind him...well he thought they were going to crawl behind him instead they were now trying to climb on him now.
“Havin fun?” Sans chuckled, the infant cooed as their little hands gripped his shoulders...mostly his jacket.
“Awe why do I have to ‘shoulder the burden’ huh?”
Sans almost bursted out laughing when he heard Papyrus scream from upstairs, even though they weren’t in the same room Papyrus could tell when Sans told a pun.
“Sans I can hear you punning! Stop it now!” Papyrus stormed out of his room.
Choosing to wear a orange turtleneck sweater and black pressed jeans, Sans wasn’t too surprised. Sure he hadn’t worn those jeans in a while but since they were going to see Azul he wanted to look his best.
“C’mon bro I was just trying to get this monkey off my back.” Sans wince playfully when Papyrus let out a growl.
The puns and scolding only stopped when Lane started whining, gently tugging at Sans hoodie. He turned and pulled her back into his lap, he gave her a little peck on her forehead before standing up.
“Its ok Laney, we’re just playing.” Sans nuzzled her.
Papyrus sighed and grabbed the diaper bag, he reached and gently rubbed his sisters head. Giving a small giggle when she leaned into his touch, almost like a kitten would.
“Alright little sister lets get your coat on and we’ll be off!” Papyrus puffed his chest out and walked towards the coat rack, the only coat hanging up was a tiny little red one with flowers on it. Once her coat was on the three walked out and towards Azul’s home.
They didn’t have far to walk since she lived just up the way, despite that Lane was still squirming and fussing. As much as he tried Sans just couldn’t get her to calm down.
“Geez Lane you got a rash or something?”
Pap leaned forward to look at his sister, she was chewing on Sans hoodie. “I think she’s got a new tooth growing in, she’s chewing on your hood.”
“Gee thats great...” Sans groaned.
Before long they were at Azul’s house, they didn’t have to knock, the door flung open, Papyrus ready to embrace his love ....accept Lane was scooped up into Azul’s arms. Much to Pap’s disappointment.
“Laney! How you doing sweetie?!”
Pap couldn’t fault her, she had such a soft spot for children especially babies like his little sister. That and he got a nice big smooch on the mouth when she was done fawning over Lane.
“I’m glad you guys could come over, its nice having company over once in a while.” Azul smiled letting them inside.
“Thanks for inviting us.” Said Sans.
“Yes! Thank you very much, its also nice to get Lane out and about.” Said Papyrus setting the diaper bag by the couch.
“What you don’t let her out and play?” Azul teased. “Its not that, last time I took Lane with me to meet Undyne and....well lets just say things got a little...overwhelming for her.”
Papyrus winced recalling Lane’s first meeting with the captain of the royal guards, it wasn’t Undyne’s loud personality or anything that was a surprise...it was when they started sparing and Lane got scared...thinking Papyrus was going to get hurt.
“Oh yeah I heard about that, I’m surprised thats the only thing she got upset about...an speaking of which.” Azul looked at Lane who was squirming.
“She’s got a new tooth growing in so...” Sans trailed off a little, Azul smiled and without uttering a single word whisked Lane off into the kitchen, pulled open the fridge and pulled out a tiny jar.
“Whats that?” Pap asked.
“Its a teething salve my mom used when I was little, this’ll stop the irritation.” Taking a small amount on her finger she gingerly rubbed the salve on Lane’s budding teeth.
Almost instantly Lane stopped squirming and relaxed. Color the skeleton brothers impressed.
“I’ll make you guys a jar later, just rub it on any new tooth coming in at least once a day.” Azul smiled as she turned and started pulling out items from her cupboards. “Well now that problems taken care of its time we get down to cooking, we’re making stew.”
Pap didn’t have to hear anymore, already pulling out a large stock pot. Sans got out some spoons and started washing the veggies Azul had laid out, he got that done in less then a minute.
He noticed Azul was doing everything with one hand since she was still holding Lane, he reached to take her back...but Azul turned and with a devilish smirk replied...
“Nope, she’s mine now.”
Sans just stared...as Azul effortlessly chopped veggies with one hand with ease. All while holding Lane and from time to time pausing to give the little infant a playful raspberry on her cheek.
“Sans stop lazing about and help.” Pap scolded already getting the other ingredients out of the fridge.
Sans still couldn’t stop staring, still taken aback by the fact Azul was doing everything with one hand and suddenly being denied to take his sister back.
“Uh...you don’t find this strange?” Asked Sans, taking some ingredients from Papyrus.
“It’d be strange if you were actually being productive.” Replied Papyrus, Azul gave off a little ‘ooo’ for the solid burn.
“Want some ice for that burn Sansy?” Teased Azul.
Sans gave a tight, not so amused smile in her direction before getting back to the tasks at hand. The kitchen bustled with the three adults moving from one side of the room to the other, before long all the ingredients were in the large stock pot and was simmering on a low heat.
“Ok, we let this sit for at least half an hour then we can eat.” Azul smiled as she moved to the living room, the skeleton brothers followed.
Finally Azul relinquished Lane from her hold but only to play on the floor with some of the toys brought for her. Pap sat by Azul while Sans took the arm chair near the TV, the three started chatting about daily things. Occasionally pausing to watch Lane attempt to climb something such as Sans leg or even the couch the love birds were sitting on.
[thirty minutes later]
Sans gently pushed the highchair up to the table by him, Azul and Papyrus were setting the table and setting the bowls of soup out. Once done they sat down and started having lunch. Sans from time to time helped feed Lane.
The soup was delicious, a thick cheesy an milky broth loaded with vegetables. Azul loved this soup, it was just such a comfort dish full of nostalgia. Her mother would make this soup once in a while when Snowdin got colder at times or when she had a bad day at school.
A particular memory she loved was when she was little and invited Papyrus to her house for a birthday sleep over. The two of them sitting in their homemade pillow with stacks of their favorite books and bowls filled to the brim of this soup. They ate so much of it they were too full to eat any of the cake her mother had made, but that was ok they got to have the cake for breakfast the next day.
Papyrus happily spooned more of this delicious soup into his mouth, sure it wasn’t spaghetti but it was a major acception to his culinary rule. Azul tilted her head to watch Sans feed Lane, she smiled as Lane held on to Sans hand and was mimicking the motions.
“This is good.” Said Sans taking a moment to eat some of his soup.
“It’s delicious, absolutely delicious!” Pap exclaimed, simply enraptured in the taste.
Azul chuckled “I made plenty so take some home if you want, oh Sans careful there..”
Sans looked to see Lane about to stick her hand into her bowl but he was quick to catch her, not cause it would make a mess but because the soup was still very warm.
Lane whined at Sans but was pacified with another spoonful of soup.
“Good save there.” Azul chuckled as she ladled another helping of soup into her bowl.
“Yeah..heh she’s already finished two bowls aready and she still wants more, not just Azul but Lane too.” Sans smirked, Azul eyed him back before playfully throwing her napkin at him.
“Alright that was a decent comeback, but your right one thing Lanes got quite an appetite.” Said Azul.
“She’s a growing skeleton, she needs all the calcium and nutrients she needs to become as strong and as great as her older brother!” Papyrus again puffed out his chest, beaming with pride.
“Yeah with you two...I’m sure she’ll turn out perfect no matter what.”
The three adults shared a small chortle before returning to their food, everyone sitting together at one table, reminiscing, daydreaming and simply chatting about the past, present and future...all while enjoying a nice bowl...of warm soup.

53 Derpy Pics Of Cat ‘Teefies’
They bite. They gnaw. They chomp. Even though cats have long been domesticated, they’ve still got some of their ancestor’s ferocity left—just look at their canines! But no matter how seriously cattos want to be taken, sometimes, they’ll end up looking completely derpy when they show their teeth. One of the best places for awesome cat teeth pics is the Teefies subreddit (not to be confused with the Toofers one which is for dogs). Go check ‘em out.
We’ve collected this list of funny and adorable pics of cats showing off their teeth to brighten up your day. Enjoy the pics, share ‘em with any cat lovers that you know, and don’t forget to upvote your fave photos. We’d also love it if you shared any hilarious pictures of your own pets’ teeth in the comments, dear Pandas. Oh, and check out Bored Panda's posts about Loki the ‘vampire’ cat and Monkey, the cat with Dracula teeth, for some more toothy cuteness when you’re done with this list.
Bored Panda reached out to veterinarian, writer, and pet advocate Dr. Ernie Ward to learn more about cats' teeth and how to keep them healthy. "About 80 percent of adult cats have serious problems with their teeth, especially a condition called periodontal disease. Periodontal disease looks like stained or 'dirty teeth,' but underneath that discoloration lies gum infection. This infection can spread harmful bacteria throughout the body, damaging heart valves, kidneys, liver, and causing intense pain. In fact, many cases of 'finicky eating' is a cat's way of telling their pet parents it hurts to eat," Dr. Ward told us. Scroll down for the rest of our interview with him.

"Cats need their 30 adult teeth brushed and cleaned regularly. If you don't feel comfortable brushing your cat's teeth with their super-cool tiny kitty toothbrushes, you'll need to have your cat's teeth cleaned once a year by your vet," Dr. Ward told us just how important it is to brush cattos' teeth. And who can resist using tiny kitty toothbrushes?
"If your cat's tooth becomes broken, infected, or is causing severe pain, tooth extraction may be required. The procedure is identical to a human having a 'tooth pulled.' Your kitty will be sedated, the gums numbed, and the tooth extracted. Often a special suture will be used to sew up the hole and antibiotics and pain medication prescribed. Most cats feel much better after a damaged tooth is removed and can eat and drink within hours," the vet told us what it's like when cats have to get their teeth pulled.

You’d expect that these meowsome and purrfect predators would have a lot of teeth based on the way how high and mighty they’re acting. But that’s far from the truth.
Adult cats have only 30 teeth while kittens have 26 baby teeth. Let’s compare that to doggos and us hoomans, shall we? Dogs have 42 teeth when they’re all grown up good boys and girls and they have 28 baby teeth. Meanwhile, people have 20 baby teeth and 32 teeth by the time that we’re adults.

The very first baby cat teeth to erupt are the incisors and the canines, so kittens can and do look like teeny vampires for a bit. The first baby teeth start growing when the kitty-cats are around 5 to 6 weeks old and their permanent teeth start to show up when they’re 11 to 16 weeks old, starting with the incisors.
Then, when the cats are 12 to 20 weeks old, their adult canines make an appearance. While premolars erupt when the felines are 16 to 20 weeks old. Finally, the molars (the hard-to-see ones that are way in the back of the mouth) emerge when the cats are around 20 to 24 weeks.

congratulations suki, scorpio is now marwa tezcan. you have recieved a message regarding your faceclaim.
APPLICATION
Character Sign: Scorpio
Character name: Marwa Tezcan
Birthday: November 16, 1997
Sexuality: bi with male preference
Gender: gender fluid, female biologically
Moon Sign: Taurus
Faceclaim: Freema Agyeman
Power: Lie detecting – Marwa is always cautious of those around her. She always trusts her gut and goes with her instinct and that instinct is exactly what tells her that most people have a hidden agenda. It’s the reason she can come across as secretive and guarded. She’s fiercely loyal to those she trusts but winning her over is a struggle for most. With her new ability she’s able to quickly differentiate between who she can and can’t trust. It makes the logic that much easier and more black and white like the computer brains she’s grown so fond of. The downfall is her power also lets her see just how often even those she trusts lie, it’s simply human nature. Who can say if this will cause her to isolate herself more and perhaps fuel her already jealous tenancies or if she’ll be able to keep it under control.
Area of Study: Software Engineering
Biography:
Marwa was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on a day where the Canadian winds were particularly cold off the ocean coast. Early childhood memories are always foggy but she’ll never forget the day her mother walked out the door never to come home again. Her parents had always fought but she figured that’s just how adults talked. When she’d brought it up with her father when she was a bit older he always said it was complicated and if her mother didn’t want anything to do with their life any more then it was her loss. But such an event leaves an impression on a young girl of five. Two years passed and a new woman had entered her father’s life. One more and she suddenly had a baby half brother and she was told this was her new family.
She’s always been close with her father. He was her rock through her childhood and would always apologize for the yelling when her mother had still been in the picture. Sure she likes her new family well enough but some part of her has always kept them at arm’s length. After being abandoned once she was in no hurry to give her trust out again.
In school she was no stranger to the principal’s office. There were more than a few phone calls home resulting in her father begin pulled from his day job to come in and apologize on her behalf. He always blamed himself for allowing her to see the fights he would have with her mother and causing her to think escalating problems to such levels was acceptable. Even though she may understand rationally that there were other ways of handling a situation, whenever she believed in something she couldn’t help but stand up and fight for it. Her father tried to channel her energy by enrolling her in soccer. The organized sport gave her a bit of an outlet but she was often accused of taking the game too seriously.
As a kid Marwa got along well with the sportier kids. She wasn’t one for dolls or playing dressup. Her step mother was always telling her how pretty she was and how if she just cleaned up a bit she could be the prettiest girl on the island. Instead she preferred to play with boys and never really cared for her looks. When she reached the age when the girls started to notice the boys and the boys started to notice the girls she didn’t really understand what was happening. Suddenly the boys acted all weird when she’d get in a tussle with them on the field and the girls were suddenly more interested in shopping than kicking around the soccer ball. She started to feel isolated and like she didn’t fit in either group. The worst of it was that sure the boys were cute and she supposed she understood the appeal but the girls were pretty cute too. Yet when she said this out loud people became uncomfortable and looked at her like she had two heads.
When it came time to decide her path for school she took interest in the presentation given by the grad school from overseas. This could be her chance to escape the small rock of a province she called home and see the world. As much as she loved her father, he was happy with his little family and she was ready to become her own person. She didn’t think she had much of a shot but she took the risk and submitted her application for software engineering. Computers had always been her thing. They made sense and were straight forward, never having a hidden agenda. The day the acceptance letter came she was filled with excitement for the unknown that lay before her. She didn’t know what this move would bring but she knew this was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.
Five interesting facts about your character:
- She’s very protective of her half brother due to the age gap. He’s always been innocent in her eyes and will always be her tiny little brother.
- She plays violin but it’s not something she advertises
- She wants to get a tattoo but keeps changing her mind about what to get
- Music is her escape. Whatever her mood there’s always a perfect song
- She proud of her newfie accent but when she has a bit too much to drink she can be difficult to understand
Character Quote:
“Always aiming paper airplanes at me when you’re around
You build me up like building blocks just so you can bring me down
You can crush my candy cane but you’ll never catch me cry
If you dangle that diploma and I dead, you, don’t be surprised”
Patronus : Wolf – loyal to its pack to the very end but has the means to fight if needed and opposed by an outsider
WRITING SAMPLE
Marwa took a look around her new dorm room as she flopped onto her bed. With a sigh she reached for her phone from where she’d left it on the pillow. Finally she was all moved into her new home for the next few months. Taking a break she opened Facebook and scrolled down the feed. There was the familiar collection of friends, ironic images, memes and parent’s posting embracing first day of university photos. She paused on one photo in particular. There looking back at her from through the screen was that familiar big toothed grin with the familiar bar backdrop. She new she had been the one to leave and they’d parted on good terms, they hadn’t even known each other for that long but had met through mutual friends at the start of the summer only two months ago. Yet all the same she felt a tightening in her chest as she looked at his arm draped around a smiling red head.
Closing the app she lay back on her bed and looked up at the ceiling. She wasn’t normally one to feel this way looking back, but preferred to look forward. She told herself it was because she was missing home and not that curly haired boy, afterall it was her first time away. Perhaps it was because she wasn’t use to seeing someone move on after being with her before she herself did but the thought crossed her mind of what they could have been if she hadn’t left that rock of a province. Trying to rationalize with herself she told herself she was simply jealous of having not moved on first and it was nothing about that boy in particular. Scolding herself mentally for being so hung up she stood up from her bed. What she needed was a distraction and here was a whole new country ready to give her just that.

Puppy Development Stages
https://www.centralparkpaws.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/newborn-baby-puppies-eyes-closed-first-week-growth-development.jpg When I brought Maggie home for the first time, I was overwhelmed with love and excitement.
I’d been waiting my whole life to adopt my first puppy, and she was a dream from the very beginning.
I’d grown up with other dogs who were brought home as puppies, so I figured that I knew what to expect.
It turns out, there’s a lot you have to learn on the go as you raise a puppy!
Here’s what I learned and experienced during each of the puppy development stages.
One Week
The first week is a big time of life for puppies. There’s a whole world waiting for them and they’re ready to start exploring.
What to Expect
All puppies are born blind and deaf, so they won’t be able to see or hear anything for a while.
This is because the gestation period for puppies is only two months.
After their birth, their eyes and ears are still developing and need protection.
The puppies will spend most of their time with their mom, nursing, and sleeping.
Milestones at this age
One week old puppies learn to:
Nurse
Smell their surroundings
Taste their surroundings
Two Weeks
The second week of life is a big time for puppies, as they begin to grasp their senses and abilities.
What to Expect
Although they won’t appear much different on the outside, puppies are experiencing more of the world at two weeks old.
They’ll still be blind, but their hearing is developing quickly.
They won’t be able to hear perfectly yet, but they’ll try to mimic their mother by whining and grunting.
Milestones at this age
Two week old puppies learn to:
Smell better
Taste better
Mimic the muffled sounds they hear
Three Weeks
Three week old puppies undergo some of their most drastic developments yet, with a little support from their mom and caretaker.
What to Expect
Puppies up until the third week wiggle around to get where they want to go, but at this point, they’ll take their first wobbly steps.
Their eyes also open, so they can see a not quite fully developed version of their world.
Caretakers will also begin to wean puppies from their mother and introduce them to solid, soft foods.
This is because their milk teeth begin to develop, which can handle a bit of solid food.
Milestones at this age
Three week old puppies learn to:
Open their eyes (blurry vision)
Take their first steps
Chew with their first teeth
Begin to socialize with each other through their sight and hearing.
Four Weeks
The fourth week of life is when you’ll get to meet your puppy!
They’re slightly more playful and interactive with their environment.
What to Expect
Puppies will take full advantage of their shaky ability to walk, even if their exploration is interrupted by frequent naps.
Gentle handling can begin now, since they’re able to see and hear their surroundings.
You may notice that puppies will try to gnaw on things like toys and fingers, but they won’t have much jaw strength. They’re just still trying to test out their new teeth.
When I met Maggie, she didn’t have much interest in chewing anything.
She mostly napped and bumped around the room with her siblings!
Milestones at this age
Four week old puppies learn to:
Have their paws handled
Be held
Be loved on by their future family members
Five Weeks
During the fifth week, the mother will take a step back and allow the puppies to become more independent, although a slight change in parenting is noticeable.
What to Expect
Your pup will play more with their siblings and eat solid food multiple times per day.
Their mother will only standby for the infrequent nursing session, teaching their pups not to bite as hard as they used to.
Puppies also need more human interaction at this point, so they learn that people are their friends and nothing to be afraid of.
However, they don’t have fully developed immune systems, so their environment should be clean, with no trace of contact from other dogs.
Milestones at this age
Five week old puppies learn to:
Eat more solid foods
Spend more time on their own
Interact with people daily
Six Weeks
During their sixth week, puppies would like to imagine that they can take on the world by themselves, but their moms know to stick around for important training.
What to Expect
As long as they don’t interact with other adult dogs, puppies can go outside and run around on their own.
They won’t be as dependent on their mom, but she still has some lessons to teach them.
Puppies will chew harder on solid foods, so they think they have to chew that hard on everything else.
Their mom will step in when biting gets too rough, which is crucial for puppies to learn before they go home.
Milestones at this age
Six week old puppies learn to:
Play more with each other
Explore the outside world
Bite appropriately
Seven Weeks
The final week with their siblings reinforces what each puppy has learned before they go home.
What to Expect
Your puppy will look less like a newborn and more like a dog now.
Maggie had grown out her beautiful wavy curls and had perky ears at this point.
Their walking will be much more confident and their personalities will start to differ.
Depending on what breeder they come from, they may even be trained to go to the bathroom on potty pads at this point.
Milestones at this age
Seven week old puppies learn to:
Rough house with each other
Go to the bathroom in the right places
Play with the people around them
Eight Weeks
The big eight week mark is when you can finally bring your puppy home and spend your time learning about what they like and dislike.
What to Expect
Your puppy will want to alternate between playing and sleeping, and while they may seem grown up, they won’t like being left alone.
Puppy anxiety from being alone for the first time while you’re out running errands or in another room may lead to chewing and bathroom accidents.
Maggie would make the occasional mess while I was gone and also tip her head back and howl. It was adorable, but also very sad.
Puppies at eight weeks will have to go to the bathroom frequently.
Puppies generally add an hour to their bathroom schedule for every month they get older. At two months old, they’ll be able to hold their pee for two hours tops.
Crate training can also begin at eight weeks, although puppies shouldn’t be left alone in their crate for long periods of time.
Puppy parents should also note that puppy eyesight is fully developed at eight weeks old!
They can see, smell and hear you with completely developed senses.
Milestones at this age
Eight week old puppies learn to:
Live in their new home
Adjust to a potentially new bathroom routine
Start crate training
See with clear vision
Three Months
Your dog graduates at three months old to being even more of a partner when it comes to adventuring through life together.
What to Expect
Depending on how your vet schedules out your puppy’s vaccinations, they may be able to socialize with dogs in public spaces now.
I celebrated Maggie’s three month birthday by taking her to our local pet store, where she sniffed around excitedly and went home with new treats.
Puppies also need to wean down from four feedings each day to three.
This shift in eating could potentially cause upset stomachs, so be as gradual as possible when changing their eating routine.
Milestones at this age
Three month old puppies learn to:
Have fun in public spaces
Eat less frequently
Use the bathroom every three hours
Four Months
Some four month changes in your puppy may not be noticeable, but they’re still happening all the same.
What to Expect
At the start of their fourth month of life, puppies will begin to lose their milk teeth. Their adult teeth are beginning to develop and push their way through the gums, so a couple of things could happen.
Your puppy may chew on toys and leave a little blood behind. This is normal!
As long as the bleeding stops, it’s a normal part of dog’s roughhousing through their teething stage.
You may not notice any teeth fall out at all.
Maggie never had any traditional tooth gaps and I never found any in the carpet. She could have potentially swallowed her loose teeth while she ate, which is also normal for puppies to do.
Milestones at this age
Four month old puppies learn to:
Use the bathroom every four hours
Wiggle their teeth until they fall out
Chew with more force
Five Months
Your puppy will be getting much stronger during their fifth month, so it’s the perfect time to focus more on leash training.
What to Expect
Puppies may not be fully potty trained at this point, so don’t worry too much if they still make an occasional mess.
When Maggie reached five months, she was fully potty pad trained, but still had an accident if people came over and she got too excited.
You might notice your pup tugging more on the leash at this age.
While it may have been cute when they were smaller, constantly being pulled by your dog while you’re out on walks isn’t fun.
Five months old is a great time to start leash training your pup. Come up with specific commands and bring treats on your walks to reinforce good behavior.
Milestones at this age
Five month old puppies will:
Hold their bladder for up to five hours
Love to tug and chomp with their new strength
Still be losing their baby teeth
Six Months
Six month old puppies are mini versions of their adult selves. Celebrate with a half birthday treat and a trip to the vet to get fixed.
What to Expect
Your pup’s six month birthday is a time to celebrate.
Time for the Cone of Shame!
By now, you’ll know their personality and what they like to do.
They should also be done potty training. Yay for infrequent messes!
One big adjustment your puppy will have to make is eating only two meals a day.
Their metabolism is slowing with their growth rate, so they just don’t need as many calories if they aren’t super active.
Another important part of becoming six months old is getting fixed. Male and female dogs will reach sexual maturity at six months old, which is why breeders and adoption centers will advise you to get them fixed no later than this stage.
Taking your dog in for surgery may seem scary, but it’s a safe procedure with a quick recovery time.
Your pup will be just fine with a little extra love.
Milestones at this age
Six month old puppies will:
Eat twice a day
Be fully potty trained
Need to be spayed or neutered
Seven Months
Seven month old puppies will be hitting adolescence, so they’ll want to test boundaries and act out a little more.
What to Expect
“I’ve got my own couch now, mom!”
Around seven months old, Maggie began to act like I was old news.
She preferred to sleep on the floor instead of in the bed, or chew on her toys instead of snuggle on the couch with me.
This is totally normal, since adolescence begins around the seven month mark. They’ll want more independence, but they’ll still need you at the end of the day.
This phase will pass and soon they’ll find a middle ground between depending on you and wanting space.
They could also act more forgetful, like not sitting or holding still when you tell them to.
This behavior, added to their increased desire to explore and destroy their surroundings, will also pass. Be patient with your pup and always remember the tricks you used to train them up until this point.
Milestones at this age
Seven month old puppies will:
Want some personal space
Potentially destroy more things around the home
Be generally more playful by themselves
Eight Months
Brace yourself—eight month old puppies are officially teenagers.
What to Expect
Your dog may start listening to Punk Bark. This is normal!
The typical bad teenage behavior we see in humans is also exhibited in puppies at this stage.
Their focus will decrease, so don’t be discouraged if they won’t fetch for very long.
They may act bratty by barking and whining more, or even nipping outside of play.
Your pup might even be more selective about how friendly they are with other dogs at the park.
Don’t worry! These are all temporary and will pass with time.
Milestones at this age
Eight month old puppies will:
Have less ability to focus
Be more moody
Potentially not be as friendly towards other dogs
Conclusion
Every puppy will act a little different as they grow.
I never noticed any of these negative puppy-teenager symptoms in my family’s dogs, but Maggie definitely showed attitude and independence.
It’s good to be aware of what changes your dog will be facing during their first year of life. They grow at a super-fast rate, so things will change a bit every week.
When Maggie turned one years old, it’s like a switch turned off.
Her moodiness and desire for destruction stopped completely and she was back to her old self.
Remember these stages when your pup goes through them and above all, have patience with them.
You’re both going to be doing your best and everything is going to be okay in the end.
FAQs
When Do Puppies Open Their Eyes?
Puppies will first open their eyes at two weeks old, although their vision will be blurry and not fully developed for another four to six weeks.
At What Age Do Puppies Start to Walk?
Around three weeks old, puppies will go from wiggling around on the ground to trying to climb. Their steps will be shaky at best, but by four weeks they’ll be able to run and play.
When Do Puppies Start Barking?
Puppies will try to make noises between weeks two and three, but they won’t be able to bark like adults until their fourth month.
Can You Tell How Big a Puppy Will Get?
Sometimes it’s easiest to guess how big your puppy will be by looking at their parents, but if that’s not possible, you can do some math.
Adult dogs are generally four times the weight and height that they were when they were four months old.
What Age Does a Puppy Stop Biting?
Biting and nipping will begin as soon as six weeks old, but it could continue throughout their first year.
With gentle training, the chewing can be reduced to a minimum and focused on only their toys.
When Do Dogs Stop Growing?
It depends on their breed.
Smaller breeds will stop growing around six to eight months old, but medium to larger breeds could grow up to 18 months old.
What Are the Puppy Socialization Stages
Puppies have two socializations stages—the canine and human stages.
The first is the canine stage, which begins with their mother and siblings at birth.
The human stage begins at four weeks old.
When Will My Puppy Be an Adult?
Again, this depends on the breed.
Smaller breeds can reach adulthood as early as nine months old, and larger breeds may take until they’re 16 months old.

Five Weeks to Go
I am a 27-year-old woman who should have had her teeth fixed years ago. The issues I have existed when I was a teenager, when treatment on the NHS would have been free, but I didn’t get them addressed then (in part because my Mum had a terrible experience with braces and she passed on her fear to me), and since growing out of the free NHS option I’ve never been stable or rich enough to get the problem resolved.
Here is the dental issue: with all of my canines, and a couple of my premolars on the top, the baby tooth did not come out naturally, and the adult tooth grew in the wrong place (known as having ‘ectopic eruption’). Over the years, I lost all but one of the baby teeth, with or without intervention, and generally the remaining adult teeth have shifted to be in more or less the right position; most recently, I had the baby premolar pulled out in December 2017, after the tooth started cracking and causing pain when brushing and chewing.
After fixing the immediate issue, my dentist began going over treatment options with me to fix the remaining canine; the adult canine on the left sits so far up in my mouth that it isn’t obvious to most people that it even exists, and it is basically impossible that it would move into the right place on its own. When (and dentists assure me it is when, not if) the baby tooth comes out on its own, I’d be left with a gap near the front of my smile.
This was the first dentist to discuss my options for braces kindly, to take my concerns about cost seriously, and to encourage me in such a way that it finally felt feasible. I had a few more appointments with the Invisalign expert at my normal dental surgery, who was similarly supportive. This took some time, as I had to wait until after Christmas and New Year for the first consultation. It was eventually decided that there would not be enough change possible with the Invisalign Lite available at my regular dentist’s to make that treatment worth the expense, time, and effort, so I was referred to a separate clinic that offers the full Invisalign treatment.
Invisalign, for the uninitiated, are sets of clear(ish) plastic aligners worn over the teeth. They are swapped regularly—usually weekly or fortnightly—and each new set brings the teeth closer to the position that they would occupy if only they’d grown in nice and straight. They may be supported with the use of elastics, in particularly difficult cases, to move the teeth a little further, and may also require the use ‘attachments’ on your teeth made of dental resin to make their grip more secure. The attachments will remain on your teeth while the aligners are out, but will be removed at the end of the treatment course. Treatment length varies (for me, it is predicted to be 12 months).
I finally got an appointment at the new clinic in early May, so around six months after the premolar extraction. The dentist showed me my Clin Checks (the predictions for how my teeth would change with the treatment) and discussed my options. He told me that traditional braces would cost as much as Invisalign, that the results would be little different, and that they would be more restrictive in terms of diet. With that information, it seemed a no-brainer that I would do the Invisalign. The Invisalign will also require fewer appointments, as unlike braces they don’t get adjusted: you just swap out for the next aligner. Given I have to fit in appointments around a full-time job, this was a nice bonus.
I made a down-payment of £390 after the free consultation—£350 for the initial moulding of my teeth etc., and another £40 for a scale and polish prior to starting with the aligners. I have a further £4,125 to pay for the full treatment plan, including the cost of the aligners and the necessary appointments along the way.
At the stage when I made the payment, I didn’t know nearly as much about Invisalign as I feel I should have. I started Googling when I got home, and I found out all sorts of things my dentist didn’t discuss with me before I agreed to the treatment. He didn’t tell me I’d need to wear the aligners for 22 hours a day, and take them out only to eat, with vigorous brushing in between. He didn’t tell me I’d only be able to drink water during this time, and that hot drinks will warp the aligners, so I’ll have to cut out tea. He didn’t tell me that people wearing Invisalign are at increased risk of cavities, as their saliva can’t wash their teeth clean while they are wearing the aligners, so harmful sugars need to be removed thoroughly before the aligners are replaced. He didn’t tell me that I will likely have ‘attachments’ of dental resin placed on several of my teeth to anchor the aligners, and that these can stain if I drink certain things like tea or red wine with the aligners out. He didn’t tell me I’d need retainers after the treatment is complete, which I’ll wear at night for the rest of my life.
He also didn’t tell me when I’ll have my last baby tooth—the left canine, also known as an eye tooth—pulled out, so I hope he has a plan for that.
My next appointment is this Friday, and that will include creating scans of my teeth and taking lots of photos of my current smile, so they can get the aligners made for me. I have done a decent bit of research about Invisalign between my last appointment and this one. I do wish I’d been better informed, but now I am armed with some questions (particularly I’d like to know what my dentist recommends to keep the aligners clean, because I’ve come across contradictory information online). Even knowing everything I know now, I am convinced this is the right choice for me.
I have had a lot of emotional reactions about getting the braces. I feel embarrassed that it took me so long to get the problem fixed. I also feel a sort of vague embarrassment attached to having bad teeth in general, despite the issue having nothing to do with hygiene or anything under my control. I feel frustrated that I didn’t address the issue when I was young enough to get the treatment for free, and that I’ve missed out on years of enjoying my smile. I am appalled with how much it will cost me now; I come from a working class background, and live in an expensive UK city. It has taken me years to build up my savings and I was planning on it all going towards a house deposit. To lose such a big chunk on something that feels cosmetic is galling. My husband is from the US and is more used to paying for medical care, and he has helped me adjust to spending so much. It is a health issue, as well as a cosmetic issue, and I’ve come to accept that. I have felt frightened of the social and professional repercussions of being an adult with braces. Reading how other people my age have dealt with Invisalign has really eased that worry for me, so finally I am at a stage where my main feeling is determination. I will get this taken care of now. I hope I have the willpower to be strict with myself, and that I take careful enough care of my teeth to avoid cavities (I’ve never had one before).
Right now, I am a little anxious about whether my final baby tooth will be extracted during this appointment or not. On Saturday, I am going on vacation to the US, which will include attending a friend’s wedding, and celebrating my own wedding belatedly with friends who live far away. I’d prefer to have my current smile for those events: the baby tooth sits in the normal smile line, so having it extracted will create a gap until the adult tooth is pulled into place. If the baby tooth is extracted this Friday, I’ll just have to put up with it. The dentist told me it will take two weeks to get everything ready for the first aligner to be made, which means that by the time my vacation is over, I should be able to get started on the Invisalign treatment, and my eagerness to get started overrides my worry about my appearance.
Many of the experiences I’ve read about online discuss how the aligners changed food habits, because snacking just isn’t worth it when you need to 1) take out and rinse your aligners; 2) enjoy your snack; 3) brush your teeth, floss your teeth, use mouthwash; 4) refit the aligners. Especially because this eats (ha!) into the two hours a day you are supposedly allowed to have the aligners out, many people cut out snacks entirely. I have already reduced my snacking a lot this year (due to a sudden health kick in January), but I’ve usually allowed myself to be a bit more freedom at the weekends, so I’m expecting some change there. I also normally have a cup of tea twice a day at work, which will obviously need to be eliminated and replaced with water. My normal drink is water, apart from that, so I’m glad I already made that change. Giving up tea, pop, and snacks, all at the same time would have been especially rough.
One other thing about my vacation, with the upcoming food restrictions in mind, is that it will be sort of my last hurrah. While I’m away, I’m going to eat all of my favourite American foods, as often as I like, and I’m going to drink root beer, and I’m going to snack snack snack. I won’t be keeping track on a calorie counter like I do most days; that can wait until I’m back. I’m seeing this trip as my last little burst of freedom, before a year of my teeth being locked up in plastic jail.
I know I’ll put on some weight during this trip, but I reckon that the ‘Invisalign diet’ I’ve read so much about will help me get things back under control. I’m planning to continue my use of a calorie counter during the Invisalign treatment to not only make sure I’m not eating too many calories (as I currently do), but also to help me figure out how many calories I need per meal to feel full until I next plan to eat.
One risk that is not discussed very much in my online reading, but which I am aware of, is the possibility that being strict with my Invisalign may cause me to relapse to my other unhealthy eating habits of skipping meals. I did this a lot as a teenager, and on and off in my early 20s. I have overcome my past issue with calorie counters, no longer obsessing over eating under 500 calories per day for short bursts then reverting to binging, in huge part because of the support of my husband. Hopefully I won’t now replace that with an obsession to keep the retainers in for as long as possible, leading me to skip meals more often. I was never a dangerously low weight as a result of skipping meals, and never kept the habit for longer than a few months at a time, but for those who have recovered from a serious eating disorder, I think Invisalign would be a potentially dangerous option (traditional braces also carry restrictions around food, so could possibly come with many of the same issues).
This is definitely something people need to consider before going ahead with treatment. I’m in a healthy place, both in my eating habits and mentally, so the treatment carries a small and acceptable risk for me. For others, the risk may be much greater and not worth it.
Because reading about other peoples’ experiences has been so valuable to me now, before I’ve had the Invisalign fitted, I have decided to keep a record of my experiences. I’ll also be taking photos of my progress (including some pics with the Invisalign in, because I found this hard to find online and was so curious to see how it would look!). I’ll take the photos regularly, and hopefully side-by-side comparisons will show the differences.
It is so hard to envisage the version of me who will exist at the end of the treatment. I’ve lived with my messed up teeth for so long. I hate some of my wedding photos because you can see that random extra tooth (which is so sad, because it only shows in the pictures where I’m really happy and smiling widely or laughing), and have hated photos of myself for this reason most of my adult life. I don’t want to get my hopes up too high in case the result is not as good as I imagine. I am picturing myself smiling unselfconsciously for the first time at my 29th birthday next July, but I don’t know if that will ever be my reality. One tooth—that’s all I desperately want to fix—and it’s costing me a third of my savings, my daily tea, and a year to do so. The money, the discomfort, the changes to my lifestyle—I hope it is worth it all to get that smile.
