TPN S02E04 - Initial Thoughts (anime-only)

viewing + post-ep talk with my friends: Google Drive (sorry, youtube denied me again)

pls validate my efforts and watch it.

there’s some anime-only talk about the adaptation towards the end, I wasn’t trying to be arrogant, just mention it to my friends based on some things I’d heard and without spoiling them about what is different that I do know of specifically. But if you want to avoid that, feel free to!

I definitely said it a bit too in favor of the anime, and obviously my friends’ just got my simplified thoughts on it? Like when they said it makes sense for the anime to move on quicker, but that’s not really what’s different.

So yeah, please forgive the dubious things in that segment, I really just didn’t think about my words a lot.

. The bunker

So, the twist was that there was really.... no twist at all. Minerva was a good guy, he tried his best, he got discovered and chased.

And yet, I don’t think the bunker was previously discovered by the farms, which would at least warrant a “scare” like that, effectively making it a trap. They may have been aware of a shelter’s existence, but I don’t think they’ve been there before.

You could probably assume that the Troup that attacked our characters may have also removed the previous escapees from the scene --- but if that was the case, why leave all of the letters and other things in place. Not getting there immediately is understandable, they seem to arrived by foot (what? do you plan to keep an eye on the children the whole like 5 day march back or however long it took?? dang). So that’s not it.

So: what caused the HELPs? the person writing in the book seems to have been abandoned or more likely, are the only survivor of their group (maybe the only person in the group at all). Now it’d be an option for them to have found this safe haven and decided to just spend their days there, slowly losing their minds and doing the things on the wall. But then the message in the book, on the other hand, seems traumatized and sad, but not as lost as the carvings on the wall.

So either, they calmed down after going crazy and then once they did, they decided to leave.

Or it’s from two different people (or multiple), the one after the “HELP” one probably leaving the uplifting message in the book nearby of the scribbles.

I’m not sure which I’d find more likely, but all in all, I’m not sure why they didn’t just have the demons already know of the place and just have the letter (they probably wouldn’t have searched everything in the place) not be as obviously placed and then boom, they could still have made all discoveries they needed and when they found the help wall, it would have been from children trapped in the room while the men searched the bunker, wanting help.

* Clearly that’s not what they were going for, since there’s also day-counting things, but even that you could have explained by saying, they missed a child and the other escapees convinced them that they died, somehow and so they were left behind, traumatized by their friends being taken back and giving up for a while. It still runs into the same “but how can it be the same person?” doubt that my friend brought up, but I think that it’d justify the shock value of the wall more. Still not really making the whole “HELP” thing add up though, since that just sounds like there’s an immediate threat, when there isn’t. The only other thing I can think of is that the entire wall wasn’t one instance, so the counting could be solitude, the HELPs acute danger and the names probably also solitude. The drawing on the right also makes me think it was probably a child as well, fairly young. Poor kid.

Unless there’s something more to it I feel like it makes a little more sense, but still not a lot (WHY’D YOU LEAVE YOUR SNACKS, BRO) but seeing as we’ve left, I don’t think we’ll get to know.

I’m assuming the way the farm knew now is either a) they were aware but didn’t see any reason to go there unless there were children there, b) they saw the coordinate carvings (thanks Ray) or c) the pursuers contacted the farms (which would make sense, and again, thanks Ray).

.. the farm has a military force???

I also find it kind of funny that the farms have a military force??? Because so far, we’ve never seen them use guns to do anything. Which makes me think they might not be farm-intern but from an outside force, maybe the humans who are more “on-level” with them?

Like, what do they do all day. They’re probably not part of the buff demon guards and.... idk man haha-

. Isabella

Ahh I was happy to see her! I was even happier to be like “hah, prison. Knew it.” and then later reacting to the offer, even though that wasn’t exactly what I called, but damn. the pride. my fucking expression too lol, i couldn’t hide it at all pff.

Her jump in motivation is a little weird, but I do see it as, someone who has basically accepted their fate, and when that gets challenged, the will to live takes over.

I’m also not quite sure how she’s supposed to capture them if she can’t leave?

And then of course there’s whatever they promised her aside from “freedom” (which, if that just means being let outside, good luck ma’am there’s demons everywhere) - or is the transportation to the human world included? :D

Based on her clothing in the OP, I might have guessed it’d be “become a grandma” but that doesn’t really go well with the promise of freedom so.... I don’t know where that entire thing is going pff-

We don’t know a lot about what drives Isabella but one of the few things we do know is a) will to live and b) Leslie (????), hence the lullaby in “stressful” situations.

She already got the will to live with the baseline deal, so the only thing I can think of that would make her react more than freedom would be that Leslie’s alive and she can see him if she helps.

I’m not sure if she’s interested in anything else, like how the world works or what she can do for anyone, like.... hm. Of course it could totally be something that we just don’t know yet but yeah I guess that’s my guess.

They probably won’t give up Ray and seeing as she’s more concerned about his brain than anything, I don’t think even if they did allow her to take him with her, it probably wouldn’t mean a lot to her. Plus, why lose another high quality cattle.

I guess it could be, she did seem she wanted to be a proper mother figure, but idk something tells me it’s probably not something like that.

It would also be more “???” than “OHHH” of an reveal. Then again, Leslie is also an obvious choice so.

Maybe it’s something entirely new, we’ll see :D

. The possibily wrong date

So when Anna writes a journal thingy, we see this

And, well, their escape happened in January 2046, so... for that to be true, somewhere along the line, an entire year would have had to pass.

I’m assume this is a production error because

they didn’t get to harvest once

they wouldn’t wait a year to talk about the plan to go back

Ray wouldn’t need an ear patch for so long, he only has a cut

the montage only showed 22nd and 23rd, if an entire year had passed, we’d have been shown more varied dates, etc.

then it makes even less sense for why the army shows up one year later out of nowhere :D

Random Dr,Nefarious headcanon Part 1

So, no one has ever asked for this but I have been reading a lot of Ratchet and clank fanfic, and recently replayed crack in time and the 2016 game, so here is a bunch of Dr nefarious headcanon, romantic and not

1 - Nefarious is somewhere on the autism spectrum, though he is extremely intelligent he struggles a lot in social settings, with more then 4 people, he becomes extremely anxious in large groups, he also can’t really read peoples emotions well which can make him seem a bit unfeeling towards others, Also Unless they are his jokes they well usually go right over him, which is why Lawrence can get away with insulting him constantly, Since he doesn’t really understand he is being sarcastic, he likes to stem with small soft things he can squeeze and are not easily destroyed, he also fidgets a lot with his hands when he gets very nervous, he also can struggle with expressing his own emotions, which is why he tends to blow up a lot,

2 - Nefarious desperately wants a relationship, despite not being very good with people he hates being alone, and having no one to talk to / at, and often worries about being alone for the rest of his life, since he struggles to maintain relationships, Mostly again since he doesn’t really always knows or understand what his partner needs emotionally from him, but he is a Down right hopeless romantic and thinks about romantic in general a lot,

3 - Nefarious does some-what misses being a ‘squishy’ now this strictly applies to the 2016 universe, but can be used in the Main one if you want, he misses just being able to sustained his own body temperature, and not having to worry about his mind glitching out, he also feels very uneasy in his new form for the first few months, trying to relearn everything,

4 - Nefarious and Elaris were Very close friends, again this applies to 2016, these two were basically inseparable and would hang out even outside of work, Elaris was also kinda his emotional support person, Especially as he felt more and more ostracize from the team, she was the one person in the rangers he didn’t want to hurt, even after leaving and going evil, and she still blames herself for not being a good enough friend and thinks maybe if she was better she could have prevented all of the 2016 game,

5 - Nefarious is very creative, outside of his evil plans and Weapon designing, he full on wrote a epic romantic action comedy space opera, and has probably written more, he is also a very talented artist and keeps a lot of his drawing hidden, since most of it is just fanart of things he enjoys, though he has no idea lawrence has gone through his sketchbooks multiple times, and so far only been traumatized twice,

6 - Nefarious had actually been fired from the Rangers about a year before he attacked the city, due to have a very public panic attack, he had been working for days on end without much more then a few hours sleep, and Qwark yelled at him when he found out he hadn’t finished the project, which completely pushed him over the edge, and he ended up completely breaking down...outside of the building, And The Rangers were about investigated because of it, which is why Qwark fired him,

7 - Nefarious is a total Cuddle Bug, in Cracken time we get to see his bed for a moment and he has way to many pillows for just one man, and he uses them all in some capacity, mostly for cuddling, but he will use them more normally if he has someone in his Bed with him, his favorite way to cuddle is just very ‘ subtly’ moving a little closer to whom ever he is with and putting him arms around them, once he got you should probably accept you’re not going to be leaving that position for at least a hour, since he will fall asleep or talk to you,

8 - he can’t regulate his own body temperature, for reasons unknown to both him and Lawrence, he struggles with getting overheated and freezing up, which is why he tries to stay in a very climate controlled area, but he can be on hotter planets for about 5 hours before he starts to have any negative affects, or overheats which usually results in him being kinda Drunk, while if he gets to cold he will pass out and won’t wake up until he at a reasonable temperature,

9 - he very secretly want a Family Nefarious grow up in a extremely dysfunctional home and was Very abused by his mother verbally, and maybe even physically sometimes, and he moved out the moment he turned 16, but as he gotten older he often wondered if maybe settling down is something he wants, maybe giving up on the whole galactic domination thing, but at the same time maybe once he achieve the galactic domination he can settled down, and find someone to rule with him, maybe even have a child with, even though the thought alone of being a father is a bit daunting, since he didn’t have one growing up is something he knows he wants, so he can have something that’s truly apart of him, that will live on passed all his other accomplishments, and someone who will love him unconditionally for in him mind no real reason,

10 - Nefarious is in his mid to late 30s, I don’t have much other then that lol

11 - Nefarious is extremely insecure, though he acts like he is Very confidence in everything he does, their are hits though the games that is it very much a façade, and he isn’t as bad as he plays up to be, he worries if he doesn’t constantly appear evil that the very few friends he has won’t like him anymore, but when he is alone he tends to be a bit more softer spoken and really just wants to relax,

And 12- he is surprisingly not a horrible boyfriend, despite having a hard time reading emotions and getting frustrated very easily, he does everything he can to show his partner he cares for them, in little ways such as sharing things he likes with them, or VERY proudly telling anyone who will listen that you are indeed his partner, he also will do his best to carve out a little a little time everyday just to hang out with you, no talking about work or taking over the Galaxy, just a hour or two of being together, he also likes to leave you little notes, since he finds it easier to tell you his emotions in writing, you will find them scattered throughout your apartment or work place, most of them are extremely cheesy and a bit over the top, but always very sincere, and finally if a very committed relationship and makes it passed the first year, he becomes very open and trusting, telling you just about anything you want to know about him, he also becomes a bit dependent if the relationship makes it a year, since that would be the longest one he had ever been in, and is constantly worried about fucking it up,

Thoughts on the 9th ep of Hypmic Rhyme Anima. Spoilers beware

As I’m setting everything up, I’m rn buzzing w/ excitement bc wow I’m really excited to see what happens. Since we had a dual MTC and FP episode last time which ended with the announcement, I assume that we’ll have BB vs MTC or MTR vs FP. I hope that the anime can live up to the hype

Oh nice, they kept the same exterior of Chuuoku as the Manga and the games!

EYYYY THEY TOOK A MANGA SCENE AND ANIMATED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YEAH! Shame they didn’t animate the part with Saburo and Jiro attempting to pull Ramuda away from Ichiro. That panel is hilarious [The Panel in Question]

A yes, Ramuda calling Jakurai “Jakurai no jiji” before turning around to be so bright and cheerful is just, hilarious I love it. They cut out the “shame, the old coot’s ears still works” part. The anime’s cutting out all the funny one liners aren’t they

The tension between the divisions were also really nicely crafted. I love how Jakurai had the change in tone when talking to Ichiro and Ramuda

localizing Hifumin to Hifumming is kinda interesting but also super cute. I also love how they really pushed for the fact that Hifumi is high energy and a bit hard to handle by making Ichiro sutter in surprise.

Ah oh no they cut out the part about Jiro calling Doppo a boomer lmao granted thats a translation liberty taken by Slugtranslationshypmic but its so funny!!

HERE COMES MTCCCCCCC!!!!

aw man, they cut out the fact that Rio and DIce know each other and how Jyuto and Doppo know each other too. Samatoki also doesn’t struggle much which is a bit of a disappointment but then again budget restricts so

I love it when Ramuda sticks out his tongue its so cute

They cut out a lot of great interarctions within the manga ugh. such a shame. There’s genuine bonds between the members of TDD who don’t have a grudge against each other and its such a shame that the Anime didn’t showcase this. Hopefully that will be explored later on but theres one panel in the manga that just shows the four of them existing peacefully with one another and that just. slaps so hard. can’t believe it was cut out

Im super disappointed that they cut out a lot of funny and witty one-liners from the manga. Those were the best part of the whole thing

I think its interesting how the shots of the teams are telling of power dynamics and character. The leader is always in the center but BB are more evenly spread as if they’re equals, all facing forward to a same goal. MTC have their backs to each other, trusting each other to not only do their job but also protect each other. FP looks very fanservicy and that really plays well with the party vibes they have going on. Jakurai is the only leader whos not facing the viewer head on but from the side as is Hifumi and Doppo which implies that they’re either really dramatic or have a sense of mystery

Me slightly freaking out about the animation of TDD era Samatoki. but also he looks kinda off which ugh. poor dude, got hit by the bad animation bc apparently the staff there can’t draw slicked back hair Samatoki nicely

Actually the bad animation is kinda rampant here. Saburo’s been hit by the bad animation bug too

But apparently present day Samatoki is as hot as ever in his close ups so i guess they’re putting their money into making Samatoki looking sexy as hell which I can’t complain about

like damn, those eyelashes. The Hypmic team really said “hey Samatoki has the prettiest and longest eyelashes. Look at them” and those expressions oh my god those expressions

A bit fast paced actually. They aren’t giving very much time in between lines to make room for any breathing room.

aw damn it that sucks they didn’t show off Saburo and Jiro’s skills. I think Saburo could have easily blocked the group attack with his ability and Jiro could have at least knocked one person down. But its a shame that they have time constraints and can’t afford to draw the fight out longer

Boo the members droping like flies was no fun. But then again animation budget yeada yeada yea but i do wish that they had a little more flare with such a big event

Oh nice that was such a great twist!! I seriously thought for a second that BB would actually win! Even though I know how the whole thing plays out, I was fooled for a second into thinking that the Anime would go out and change the results to fit their agenda. But no! that was such a great way to pull off a dupe!!

Oh my god that was just. so good I was 100% ready to not like how the songs were but damn they pulled off a banger I don’t have too much to say about it but I found it very interesting how all of BB’s attacks are arcs of electricity with their trio of colors while MTC had a pretty big variety of attacks

When I’m playing Genshin Impact all I can think to myself is how I don’t want to stop playing, I get so addicted to just running around this map. It’s like playing BotW with cheat codes.

When I’m not playing Genshin Impact all I can think to myself is it’s little flaws. So many tiny things that bug me, but only once I’m disconnected.

I’ve already griped about the gacha, there’s not much else to say there. But I’ll also admit that the combat, at least from my casual perspective here thus far, is pretty repetitive. It isn’t terrible, you do run into unique situations where you need to vary up your inputs, buuuuuuuuut if you know what you’re doing and have the right elements, you can pretty much cheese any fight. Most battles come down to just spamming the basic attack button, intermixing dodges less to actually dodge attacks and more just to animation cancel/dash up to knock-backed enemies. If a fight is ever “overwhelming” then you can usually just burn your party’s ultimates and win that way.

If you’re ever in a pinch, it’s really easy to recover, at least in solo play where you can pause the game to just chow down on food. I dunno how co-op plays this out, it probably just doesn’t pause the game, but the fact remains that I’m like always stocked up on healing items that tend to near-fully heal any one character. Even if someone dies, the game gives out the ingredients to make revive items very freely, so I can usually just revive them mid-fight. The only counter-mechanic to stop abuse of this is that, unlike BotW, characters get full and can’t keep eating... buuuuuuuuuuuuut the one time I ran into this problem, I was still able to just draw out a fight until the people I needed to heal could eat again.

This absolutely leans in on the “BotW w/ cheat codes” feel that the game wants, so it isn’t misplaced, but it does remove almost all the challenge. Dungeons will throw at you some harsher threats, and some world map events/puzzles require fighting enemies under stricter limits, but other than that, you’re just going from camp to camp, fighting one of like four enemy types, with bigger mooks and a mini-boss tossed in sometimes. Greatest obstacle in any given fight is usually just avoiding the enemy stun locks and wrestling with the auto-aim to hit the right target -- seriously, aiming is so hit-or-miss, I’m so often randomly targeting different enemies than the one I’m trying to focus down.

To be fair, I think my character choice leans me into boring fight cycles. Noelle is my best unlocked character and her gameplay is extremely simple. She just cleaves enemies with heavy hits, she can spin around just like in BotW with its heavy weapons except its even stronger, and her ability is to create a shield around herself to make her harder to interrupt. So basically I just run up to enemy, hit them until they’re knockbacked, and either scatter mobs with a charge attack or just tank the damage with my shield. The only reason I swap off of her is to get different elemental damage or a ranged attack, for everything else, this just works on basically every enemy.

BUT like I keep saying, this game is a lot of fun. One last thing I’ll gripe about for now is that the voice acting is soooo grating. I don’t even want to call it bad, I just hate this kind of “anime-esque” direction with voice acting, because good god it’s so fucking unnatural. It’s something I’ve noticed a lot more lately now that I listen to dubbed anime more than I do subbed; Japanese tone and linguistic quirks simply do not translate well into English lol. I’m so annoyed listening to these strong, controlled voices have to include obnoxious quirks or react in ways that no human ever reacts. Maybe I’m just not as amused by this type of dialogue but ugh. The only reason I keep English voice over on is because not everything is subtitled and it’s nicer for a casual playthrough to just heart what characters are going on about rather than always reading.

Still though, as much as I love Lisa... I hate her whole “cutie” thing. It’s so overdone, it’s so obnoxious, it doesn’t sound hot or appealing. I don’t know if it’s because the VA just doesn’t sell the line at all or because the lines are so disjointed in how they’re written/localized, but god, I really do hate it.

9x21: King of the Damned

Then:

Things are going really well for the angels.

Now:

1723

Abaddon arrives at an inn in Leith, Scotland and introduces herself to a confused young man as a “friend of the family”. She notes that he’s traveling in the morning to the colonies. The innkeeper interrupts their little conversation, and Abaddon makes quick use of the coathanger on the wall when she slams the dude into it, killing him. She then starts chanting her spell. The sigil on the door she painted lights the room yellow.

At a bar, angels are drinking and chilling. Nerd angel decides to interrupt a group by telling them about how cool he is for getting picked by “Met Man” to head back to Heaven. He’s overheard by a couple at the bar.

As he’s leaving later, they kidnap him and chain him up.They’re on the other side of the angel war and want to know more about his allegiance to Metratron. There are footsteps growing louder from the hallway, the music grows tense, and the derpy angel nervously asks, “Is that him?” It is.

It is ...Cas.

Meanwhile, the brothers arrive to see “the commander”.

They’re brought into the main operation room. It’s buzzing with angels all looking for Metatron. Cas greets them both with a hug when they enter his office. The brothers are skeptical of Cas’s new leadership role, but Cas believes someone has to stop Metatron. Cas needs the brothers to interrogate the kidnapped angel. MOC!Dean is game.

Crowley, meanwhile, is meeting with his team of trusted demons.

He’s making it clear that the king is back, and Abaddon must be stopped. He asks for their “Yo” of allegiance, but gets only silence in response. Until Abaddon blurts it out from the door. She reviews the fact that Crowley helped the Winchesters get ahold of the First Blade and Dean’s wearing the Mark of Cain. She points out that once she’s gone, Crowley’s next on their list. She wants to team up but Crowley declines. She has no hold over him.

Enter Gavin Macleod: the Scot from the opening --and Crowley’s son. Crowley swears he doesn’t care about the boy. Abaddon is willing to bet that his little foray into humanness left him with more compassion than he thinks. She starts to torture the poor dude.

Crowley holds out for a couple seconds but way too quickly demands that Abaddon stop.

Sam and Dean are busy playing Good Cop/Bad Cop with the rogue angel. Dean wants to stab the dude, but Sam catches on REAL quick that the angel likes to boast, so he goes for a little reverse psychology.

They both egg the guy on enough to have him reveal that there’s a private portal to Heaven now.

Gavin, now recovered from the torture, adamantly denies that Crowley is his father. His father was Fergus Macleod, a simple tailor. Abaddon and Crowley reveal to poor Gavin that he’s in the future. He mistakes them for angels.

Sam and Dean continue their schtick. And they get a lot of intel from the guy. They learn that the portal moves around and there’s an elite, secret Heaven squad (that this guy ultimately wasn’t chosen for). Sam and Dean leave the room convinced they didn’t learn a thing.

Gavin learns that his dad sold his soul for “an extra three inches of willy?!” He does not like this turn of events. Crowley assures him that his dear old dad is the King of Hell so everything is good!

Another angel opens the interrogation room to find the nerd angel stabbed through the heart, dead. Sam and Dean have to explain themselves to the Commander.

Dean wonders if Cas’s operation has been compromised. Cas had real faith in the angels under his charge (and there goes Cas again with his faith in others…). Dean heads out to find out who killed the angel. Cas holds Sam back to ask about Gadreel. “It's not really something I like to…” Sam starts, before Cas cuts him off. (Sam, you never want to talk about your trauma, bby) Sam then tells him that it was like they were sharing housing, but he never felt threatened. He was misunderstood, but not a danger (well, except for Kevin.)

Crowley and Gavin confront their past, each blaming their respective parents for their terrible lives. Gavin can’t even read! Crowley shoves an impatient hand against Gavin’s forehead and hands him a newspaper. Tada! He can read now! (This remains one of the funniest and weirdest canon demonic powers. Can you imagine some demon elementary school teacher just trying to live a neutral life and impatiently zapping all their students with reading power?) Gavin immediately warms up to Crowley, and further cheers to learn that he can now adopt the title “Prince.” Gavin would like to be sent back through time and continue nipping off to the new world, though. GAVIN you fool you’re already THERE and you can have hot showers here. HOT SHOWERS.

Gadreel arrives at a clandestine meeting with Cas. Gadreel reveals that he’s still sour about what happened in the Garden. “You feel misunderstood,” Cas notes. He thinks that Gadreel wants to redeem himself and that’s why he’s helping Metatron. Yep, Cas isn’t speaking about himself AT ALL here. Cas tells Gadreel that Metatron can’t be trusted. Just then, angels race in to attack their meeting. RUDE. Gadreel and Cas dispatch them handily.

Dean has First Blade flashbacks while he researches, zoning out so much that he can’t even hear his own phone ringing next to him. Sam snaps him back to Earth. The phone call is from Crowley and he’s plotting to kill Abaddon with their assistance. When they hang up, Crowley looks up to a smiling Abaddon. It’s a trap!

Dean and Sam unbury a corpse to unearth the First Blade that’s hidden inside of it (yeah that was a lot already) when they’re confronted by a hellhound.

Cornered by the hound, Dean calls Crowley, then puts him on speaker. Crowley tells “Juliet” the hellhound to stand down. At least there are SOME loyal subjects left in Hell! The Winchesters chop the blade out of the body and head out.

Gavin throws a temper tantrum about wanting to travel back in time and slams the door to his room in their suite. Crowley gets a call from Dean and tells him where to meet him to get the drop on Abaddon.

Crowley drops the code word he learned earlier in the season: “Poughkeepsie.” He warns them that it’s a long drive from Poughkeepsie. Dean hangs up and looks troubled, but doesn’t bother to share his concerns with Sam.

Abaddon smirks at Crowley as her plans settle into place. She’s about to be overrun with the Winchesters and Crowley - and she doesn’t trust a single one of them. She shoots Crowley in the shoulder with a devil’s trap bullet to nullify his AMAZING READING POWERS.

Gadreel begs Cas to trust him. He didn’t send the angel assassins! Cas tries to use the attack to bolster his argument that Metatron can’t be trusted.

For Concerned Blue Eyes Science:

Cas asks for intel - not action. If Gadreel will turn spy for Castiel, then Cas has an advantage for his own battles. Gadreel can try to keep his hands clean.

Dean and Sam arrive at the hotel. Dean spins a quick lie about how Crowley spotted demons in the basement. While Sam goes to check that out, Dean heads up to Crowley. “Love the crazy bloodlust in your eyes,” Crowley croons in greeting.

Demons attack Dean immediately and Abaddon power-pushes him against a large painting and pins him like a bow-legged bug.

Sam finds absolutely nothing in the basement while Dean confronts literal and probably also metaphorical demons upstairs. Dean draws from the power of the blade, the Mark glowing through his jacket, and pulls away from the wall under his own magical steam. He psychically snaps the blade to himself and strides across the room to skewer a disbelieving Abaddon. I ALWAYS forget that Abaddon dies in this episode. It’s just like…Crowley family drama, Winchester family drama, Angel drama, lol she’s DEAD.

After she dies, he continues to hack away at her body. Sam tells him, breathlessly, that he can stop now. Dean’s doing GREAT, guys!

Afterward, Crowley reveals that he warned Dean about the trap and Sam shoots a surprised look at his brother. Err…awkward. The Winchesters tell Crowley that the laws of time travel require Gavin to go back to his own time, even if he dies. Honestly, sometimes I just sit back and think about how much I love this sprawling show that’s like...ghosts? Yes. Angels and demons? Okay. Time travel? Why the fuck not?

Sam plans to bring Gavin back to the bunker and magic him home. Crowley heads in to say goodbye to his son, but zaps away with him instead. In a park green, Crowley tells Gavin about the fate of his ship to America, and that he should go live his life in the current century.

Gavin bids Crowley a fond farewell. Crowley, for his part, struggles against his FEELINGS and zaps out.

In the car, Dean tells Sam why he directed him to the basement. Dean knew the blade would help him take down Abaddon and anyone else who got in his way. He wanted Sam out of the way for that. Sam speculates that the Blade is changing Dean. He begs Dean to lock the Blade away until they need it. “No,” Dean says quietly, and we cut to black.

2020 Megaman Valentine’s Day Contest - Cat. 1 (Talent) Results!

Thank you to everyone again for your patience! This is getting posted way later than I wanted to. As much as I try to keep it short and sweet, I never do, so bear with my walls of text.

For the talent category this year, the theme was about killing Mega Man with kindness. More specifically, entrants had to create their own original love/Valentine’s-themed Robot Master or equivalent boss character that was created to defeat Mega Man with the power of love! Even though the theme title and concept alluded more to the classic Robot Master character contests, designs for any series were acceptable. But other than one Navi and one Reploid entry, everyone stuck to a Classic-series themed creation. So you were all pretty consistent!

There were a total of 16 entries for this category this year. Thank you all for your participation! It was extremely hard to choose winners for this category, because you all had really clever and creative concepts based off of this theme. So thank you for thinking up such clever and cool characters!!

Also thanks to Reploid 21XX for the coloring book prizes and for some additional insight.

First and foremost, I appreciate all the effort you put into covering so many aspects of your creation, from the various design viewpoints, weapon get form for Mega Man, and showing the weapon in action. I really loved all the things you integrated into the design to give off the feeling that it is a love-based character. The “love bug” form, cherub-like Heat/Plug-type facial features, and how you utilized hearts in different ways for his design and powers.

I’m no Keiji Inafune, but I feel like this is a concept he would greenlight, in terms of it following his Robot Master design formula. It doesn’t need to be super detailed or flashy, but still fits the mold very well! The thought of the hearts missing their target and love energy then getting weaker is actually pretty clever, too. Cute, and I wuv it.

As usual, on the technical side of things, your art is one of the more polished and clean entries of the bunch. Combining a couple different aspects - swans as a creature known as a symbol of love, bonded for life like in marriage, and turning that into an inseparable pair of Robot Masters, was a clever way to think about your design, in terms of the theme of this category.

And then echoing that with the iconic Swan Lake, making them ballet dancers, is like taking Tundra Man and Gemini Man’s concept up another notch. Plus, not gonna lie, amused seeing Mega Man getting equipped with a tutu. LOL So even if it’s not as heart-themed as most of the other entries, I totally liked how you thought outside the box a little bit for this.

I figured a cupid-styled arrow theme would pop up in a bunch of entries, but your Reploid, Beta, here caught my eye. Both in terms of the hearts, arrows and wings incorporated into her armor, and the pretty sweet looking buster that she and X both have equipped.

While I’m not sure how it would play out in the game, I think it would be interesting to suddenly take control of random enemies in a stage, and be able to change perspective as them for a short time, after you have shot them. Whether it would be to take out an enemy horde, or perform a task X can’t that the enemy could, it would be different! Can’t see it quite having the same powerful effect on a Maverick boss, but it’s certainly neat to think about how that could work!

I totally loved the creative vintage chocolate factory mascot backstory, along with making your entry like an Ariga-styled character sheet page. Certainly get that retro feel with her clothing design. Her rose blade kinda reminds me of other hand-turned-blade-like-weapon characters, such as Alan Gabriel in the Big O or Ed transmuting one in FMA. Which is always a snazzy transformation for a robot!

In all honesty, if I hadn’t placed you in the humor category, I think this would have very likely been somewhere in the top 3 for this category. A cuddly teddy bear with a massive Ariga-Quick Man-sized heart for a chest, extending flailing tube arms, who just wants to hug Mega Man to death is so amusing and awesome of a design. Hugs for everyone!

Your take of heat-seeking arrows and the added high jump powers were certainly a different take compared to the other cupid-styled creations. Definitely would be nice gameplay bonuses when equipped. I like how Mega Man also has the wings sprout out of his head, to mimic Cherub Woman’s pigtails, rather than the usual spot you would assume, on his back.

Hahaha, I love how your creation has caused Mega Man to wave the white flag after falling in love...wait, it isn’t White Day, and he should be giving her a gift if it was! XD Her hair tied up into a heart was a creative touch, much like how her dress flows into all those heart shapes. Adorable!

Remember kids, it’s what’s on the inside that counts, looks don’t matter. Everyone deserves love, even those you consider ‘vermin.’ This was certainly an unexpected take on the theme, and gave me a good laugh, too. ‘Boiling-hot water...with a hint of citrus!’ It burns, but it smells so lemony-fresh!! XD But the two different moves fit together well, to protect and attack.

I like how you still incorporated a heart shape into Rodent Woman’s design with, both in her chest shape and the “nostril” area which is echoed in the Rodent Rover. And also props for giving her the non-armor form, unique compared to other entries.

Mattasaurs:

On the one hand, your design feels so different for a Robot Master, and maybe more Navi-like. But then I get the Astro/Galaxy-type eye vibe, and sort of a Plant Man~ish body with Devil hands feel, and see how it’d fit into Classic. It’s a unique look, and I liked it the more I inspected it. I really do love the idea of the heart bubble entrapping more and more enemies, and the big ol’ group hug ending up bursting their love bubble. It’s a different concept that stood out!

Minnie:

Our Navi of the bunch combined the love bug and cupid design, but your concept changed up the attack to suck out the energy of it’s target. Which almost made me think she should have an arrow-like mosquito nose, to feast on her target that way. XD I liked your wing shield concept and RiCO-styled skirt of hearts. Rock gets some cool shades in his Love Soul/Cross form, and I get the ProtoSoul vibe, with the shield transferring to his arm as well.

@pstart:

Another Heat/Plug-type design Share Man looks cute and sleepy, but is also “clumsy and weak.” His ability is to share body parts, so “the danger is in him sharing his less than ideal parts with his opponents.” It’s a totally neat concept, to see Mega Man lose his buster almost by accident, and now be powerless to stop Share Man. His split color scheme drives home the concept that his parts might not all be his own, and sort of a Frankenstein bot at times. Props to that idea!

While his weapon gives Mega Man the power to make enemies docile and sleepy, I really almost want to see Mega Man get dumb parts of enemies, too! Helmet switched to a Met helmet, Batton wings, a big Suzy eye! It’s now I’ve got your power...but...but what am I supposed to do with it? XD

Unlike most others, your entry pushed the heart theme heavily in her armor design around the entire head and shoulder parts, so I definitely felt the love vibe. The color scheme fits well. Just would have liked to have had seen a little more information about her attack and concept.

Mega Man having a “Wing Man” to set him up is a hilarious and clever idea! I give you kudos for thinking outside the box a bit on your concept and theme here. The shipping chart certainly drives the idea home, too. You still give him a classy/formal look, and keep the wing man aviation origin apparent in his attack style. Certainly a different idea having the heart bowtie transfer to Rock’s helmet in the form change, but it really doesn’t look that bad there, opposed to around his neck like it would be normally.

Different from the other cupid concepts, Eros Woman utilizes a Search-Man like targeting system to hit her targets. I like the heart scope addition over her and Rock’s eye when they go into firing mode. You took a different approach to the wing concept compared to others, echoing Cinnamon’s hairstyle in many respects. But it certainly fits with the rest of her design nicely, and looks good for Mega Man’s equipped form.

Love that you were able to both include a drawing and your own sprite, to mix in with the weapon equip ones. That is one powerful crush Mega Man has on his enemies now! I feel bad for Crush Man with how big and heavy those snare trap hands of his are. This seems like a Robot Master too cute for Wily to design; more like he stole him and added horrible, cruel hands onto him! This is taking a crush on someone to a whole different level! XD

Yuri Kadry:

When equipped with Cupid Man’s power, I like the visor Mega Man gets. I think this is also a clever use of the weapon, having enemies shot attracted to one another, causing them to collide into each other. Well thought out! Love the original sprite art, and he stands out nicely against the pinks and purples in the background.

i know you posted your thoughts on the big arguing scene in “we need to talk about pete” but i was wondering if you were going to post a full breakdown? that episode was a lot and i love hearing your thoughts on eps. ignore this if you have done a breakdown and i’m dumb and just missed it lol

**spoilers for the war of bugs and rats and we need to talk about pete**

What’s up denizens of Magic NYC? Now, I unfortunately live in normal NYC where I have to pay bills and stuff so I’ve been MIA with recaps for the past few eps but, no sweat. We’re gonna do a double feature of the above two eps and then I’ll group in the last battle episode with the upcoming episode. So lets catch up on what’s been going on in The Unsleeping City There’s a LOT to get through so vámanos y'all.

First up, we have our big bug fight in Queens, which Sophie enters with a camelback full of box wine because Emily is Emily.

“I’ve heard of gentrification but this is crazy!”

Brennan enjoys making those gross, chittering, bug noises way too much.

Have we talked about Pete’s cowboy hat? Because, for real, what is up with Pete’s cowboy hat? It seems absolutely apropos of nothing. Was he just like, “Sick,” and he decided to wear it everywhere? That seems to be how he makes all of his decisions.

“Butthole 2: Electric Boogaloo.”

Emily clocks the cat *immediately*. Like to the point where I’m almost thinking, “Did this cat exist before Emily mentioned looking for one?” And I want to say yes because La Gran Gata seems very fleshed out, specific, and intentional. But folks, we are living in a post-Avanash world so idk what to think. (Edit: The cat does have a mini now that I’ve gotten to that but idk, that insert shot could have been shot post ep so like, who knows?)

Anyway, Emily’s entire mission objective immediately becomes saving this cat she’s vaguely aware of.

“5E you crazy.”

The Cast, Knowing Emily just rolled a 25 and still has a 1d8 Bless in Her Back Pocket if She Needs It: Brennan, Just Ask.

The horror on Emily’s face when she realizes that she just called an attack on the cat cocoon.

So Emily goes off on a very Emily side quest to rescue a random cat but happens to unlock a very cool NPC–La Gran Gata–who is like the spirit of all the bodega cats out there. Sophie immediately calls upon the entirety of her limited Spanish skills to try and make friends with the cat, and succeeds.

The, “To arms, to arms my brothers!” thing kills me every time. Are all rats just Like That? Is that what they’re like when they’re out and about too?

Kingston rolling a nat 20 to literally walk across the store is wild.

Oh also, Pete failed a wild magic surge roll which just lets him fly. So far, those wild magic surges have really been working out for him.

Anyway, Bug Boss Becky turns Ricky into a “buff-ass” dog.

Zac playing dog-Ricky with almost exactly the same self-awareness (or lack thereof) as normal-Ricky is so funny. He’s an Akita and I was expecting Dalmatian but that makes sense too. Ricky, the very good boy, attacks Becky and–as a Sentinel–stops her in her tracks.

Emily does a ton of damage and Brennan, about to describe her attack, is like, “Are you still drunk?” Emily shuts down the opportunity to look cooler and is like, “I am a messy, drunk bitch. Describe that.” Emily isn’t here to be cool. Emily is here to roleplay.

I had never heard the word brindled before now and Brennan uses it to describe two separate animals in this ep.

Siobhan rolls a nat 20 to dispel magic on Ricky which is objectively good but also I would have loved for him to be a dog a little longer. Also, this moment makes me really, really want to get some backstory on Misty. Like, clearly there are some serious Fae Shenanigans going on with her and I need specifics yesterday.

Also, Ricky comes back with pointier ears and wolfier senses and I’m just picturing Channing Tatum in Jupiter Ascending.

Before I forget, Sophie, Pete, and Misty yoink magical items from the magic bodega within the bodega La Gran Gata opened up. Sophie’s is a magic ring that amps up her punches. Misty took a mirror and Pete took a grill (like for your teeth). Not sure what those do yet.

The fact that this whole fight wasn’t under the Umbral Arcana and there are people out there that remember is a little concerning for me. I can’t quite tell if it’s the sort of thing that will come back or more of a warning of what can happen if the U.A. goes down again.

Post-fight, Sophie asks La Gran Gata for mismatched David Bowie eyes like the cat has. Siobahn goes, “That’s what you’re gonna ask? You drunk bitch.” But Sophie has her wish granted. I’m sure that won’t raise any questions with people who have known her her entire life.

“She’s gonna fuck that cat.”

So the fight’s over and they realize that the Key to the City is missing which I can’t imagine is a good thing.

This brings us to the RP ep, We Need to Talk About Pete, which picks up directly where the previous ep ended.

Ally and Emily go for the exact same joke of getting Guinness’s post-fight. Kingston–as a medical professional, Vox Populi, and sanest adult of this troupe–loudly objects (smacking the beers out of Pete’s hands multiple times) and wants to know what the hell is going on with the bugs they just fought.

Sidenote: Sophie took a level in Warlock with La Gran Gata as her patron because of *course* she did. I wonder if this was the plan from the beginning or if Emily was watching all her friends spellcasting and started getting the jitters from magic user withdrawal.

Murph’s “What?” face when Emily says, “I’ll be waiting, but not in an impatient, desperate way,” is gold.

They search the bodega and find a thing of 1000 Hour Energy and Kugrash gives it to Ricky over Pete’s objections. They also find Holy Grail Laundry Detergent (Kingston pays for it), The Grill I mentioned earlier (Kingston hates this), and this bagel.

All the magic users show up. Alejandro wants an explanation pronto and everyone points a finger at Pete who explains everything in his typical, nonchalant, vague, kinda spaced out way which Alejandro is not digging at all. He starts to go off on the enormity of the situation and Pete starts dropping acid.

I’m gonna stop here for a sec to talk about how Ally is playing Pete. There are moments when I feel like Ally is doing something as a comedian for a bit. And there’s kind of a sense of, is this funny? Obviously. But what are the in game implications of this move? Like the running joke of Pete constantly being high on something is funny, out of game. But, in game, it’s massively concerning. And I’m really curious about where Ally is choosing to draw the line between doing the funny thing and doing the prudent thing. I almost said the in-character thing but Ally made a character so consistently bonkers that whatever he does could plausibly be the in-character thing. Pete is kind of a massive disaster.

Anyway, Alejandro drives home the point that Pete’s actions have consequences and have caused actual deaths at this point. Pete’s magic is internally going wonky as he gets more distressed (I really wanted to see a wild magic surge fail here but alas). But he’s still outwardly like a 4 on the giving a damn scale when the situation is a 13 out of 10. Pete is only half listening to this because he’s halfway out the door, smoking. Alejandro plans with Kingston to discuss Pete later.

Misty, always sowing seeds of chaos, suggests Alejandro stock up on Juul pods before they stop selling them completely. Kingston hates this (this is basically his mood for the episode).

Outside, Pete gets a text from Priya which ends with them planning a meet up for later after leaving her on read for a while. Pete dips without saying anything to anyone but Kingston who ignores him (and also Sophie who Emily hilariously guilts Ally into including out of character). Dipping on the conversation about how to fix YOUR mess isn’t the wisest move but Pete isn’t the wisest guy.

In the meantime, Ricky does the Twilight Bark to summon a dalmatian (yes!) to help him find the stolen key to the city. Kugrash turns into a busted ass dalmatian who has trouble keeping up.

Ricky doesn’t have the plate mail armor that usually makes a Paladin so unstealthy but he is so hot as to have the same lack of stealthiness which is one of my favorite adaptations of the game for this setting. Anyway, Ricky does the superhero thing of running through the city, helping everyone with a problem along the way, and loses the key in the Financial District which smells like death (feels about right).

Siobahn playing Misty as, “Oh, I can’t believe I didn’t realize it was Emma Lazarus,” when, in reality, she was the first person who made the connection was great. S/o to ppl who separate player and character knowledge. Misty partied w/ Emma of course because she partied with every historical figure that’s passed through NYC since she showed up.

Post adventure, people need to go to their day jobs. Misty has a +10 to performance but rolling a 3 is rolling a 3. It’s not her best work. Later, her assistant brings her holly, silver, and assorted other stuff which sounds like Fae BS if I’ve ever heard it. Misty cuts her off before she can elaborate more. I know we’re getting a secret spilling episode next time so I’m really hoping we get some Misty lore because she is being frustratingly cagey. She talks so much but says so little that means anything.

Kugrash sneaks into his son David’s house (while Emily learns a rat fact she clearly didn’t want to know) and Murph and Brennan tag team go for the proverbial emotional jugular.

Murph rolls a nat 20 on his investigate and so he gets a lot of his old files and puts together that Robert is Robert Moses–a famous historical figure in NY who I actually heard about for the first time very recently. Or maybe I should say infamous. He did a lot with NY infrastructure–especially highways–(Emily connects this to the Highway Hex immediately) and he wasn’t exactly the warm and fuzzy type. His bread and butter was working the system. There’s a Pulitzer winning book called The Power Broker about how he was able to amass power and influence. I don’t know enough about NY history to run my mouth off about the guy but the little I do know is in character with his T.U.S. incarnation. Also, just FYI, irl this dude died in the 80s. So, you know. That’s interesting.

Brennan, I guess: Why invent new bad guys when history is full of terrible people I just have to give magic to?

Brennan, continuing his tradition of letting people get emotionally destroyed by nat 20s, has Murph find a crushing letter from David to Kug which was never mailed.

Note: So, as I was writing this, my video timed out right at the line, “I don’t expect this letter to find you before my funeral,” which is kinda good bc idk if this is what I need at 1 AM. Anyway, back to the pain.

The letter reveals that David has devoted his life to stopping crooks like him (Kug) and that he’s mostly upset about how his leaving has affected the younger, more fragile Wally.

“I leave the letter because I’ll remember it.” Yeah I bet you will.

It looks like Kug is gonna confront Wally next ep which I am now even more excited to see.

So let’s move onto the SECOND big gut-punch of the episode. Kingston goes down to the station to give a statement about the Santa Incident. He sees a shit elemental in a lineup which isn’t super relevant to the main events but I can’t not mention something like that.

Anyway, guess what? Kingston’s ex (Liz) isn’t dead! She’s an attorney for the justice system of The Unsleeping City and she’s pissed the hell off. During their interview, he stops the tape recorder to cuss out Kingston for going on a “date” with Misty and for getting her involved in all the magical junk which means she has to do things like fingerprint shit elementals instead of being on track to be D.A. like she originally was. The way she described it made it sound like she was press ganged into it which seems like it shouldn’t be how this works, you know? Is there no blue pill option here? Also, not to be all grass is greener but I actually am a lawyer in NY (closer to Kug’s job, minus the crime) and I would swap with Liz in a heartbeat.

The fact that anything Kingston says as Vox is per se admissible is a cool detail.

Sophie fights an old man (Jackson) in a CVS and joins a monastery which sounds like a shitpost but it isn’t. With La Gran Gata’s blessing she is now a member of the Order of the Concrete Fist.

I saw the Staten Island joke coming the second Brennan started talking but it was still hysterical when it landed.

At the same time, Pete is getting knuckle tats because, sure. And he also goes to see Priya who I am baffled was with him for any length of time. Maybe it’s the artist thing?

Also, Sophie keeps postponing her meeting with Mario which is concerning to me. The story is still happening when you’re not interacting with it. Brennan specifically said when she texted him that she got no response which doesn’t make me feel good about what’s going on with him.

Ricky has three super jacked, fratty firefighter bros, all named John who are like woke as hell. I wish I could follow the dude around for a day because every single facet of his life is wild.

Well, this episode promised we were gonna talk about Pete so let’s talk about Pete.

The gang, sans Pete, meet up with the magical powers that be to discus the destruction the newest Vox his leaving in his wake.

Sidenote, wild that Sophie has been magic for like 15 minutes and got to go to this meeting.

Alejandro wants to know what the plan is for if Pete’s powers go off the rails again. Kingston, who has clearly seen Old Yeller, offers the most drastic solution immediately: if it comes to it, we take him out. (Cut to Ally’s “Yikes” face). Kug, Sophie, and Ricky push back on that.

Misty, hilariously (and also suspiciously), is mainly concerned about NY because she needs theater to keep happening. This woman is chaotic something and I’m not convinced it’s chaotic good yet.

Anyway, I already did my big write-up on this part of the episode, but I’ll say it again: Kingston is right. He’s harsh but he’s right. This is some Phoenix Force BS that’s happening and do you know how that arc ends (the OG one, not the million other Phoenix Sagas that have happened since)? It ends with Jean Grey killing herself so she doesn’t lose control and eat another planet. Ricky is too dangerous for his own good and he doesn’t seem to have the emotional maturity to care (or at least to care at the correct level). Like, he was a drug dealer when this started which is already not ideal. He caused a huge mess and then just bounced without trying to help fix it. He thought that a week was enough time for human casualties to be water under the bridge. Frankly, not considering the nuclear option and just having to figure out if killing him is something the group is willing to do on the fly would be the more irresponsible option.

And not including Pete in the discussion would bother me more if he hadn’t openly blown off every serious discussion people have tried to have with him so far. If he’s not going to take things seriously, it makes sense they don’t invite him to the serious discussions.

The version of this story where Pete accidentally gets a bunch of people killed, finds out what he did, cries about it for a full day, and then finds out they’re talking about possibly killing him is a story where Pete is more sympathetic imo. But still, finding out that people talked about killing you under any circumstances has got to be rough.

IMO, the order of things that should be done right now are (1) putting magical training wheels on Pete, (2a) getting Pete trained or his powers transferred if it’s possible/he wants out, (2b) either way, getting Pete into therapy (like, he needed therapy before he got magic. now it’s just a matter of life and death–besides just his own), (3) talking to Pete again about the stakes and telling him point blank but not in while heated that there’s the possibility of a scenario where his powers go out of control and you have to understand that at that point it’s a matter of saving as many lives as possible. Like, Kingston can say, with conviction, “If I go rogue, you should do the same to me.” They’re in the same boat. Kingston’s just been rowing longer. Well, similar boats anyway. I imagine the Vox Populi powers are less inherently chaotic. And maybe the knowledge that a nuclear option is on the table would make Pete not want the job or want him to have his powers muted or something. Cool. Then you have that discussion at that point. Just, these are the conversations that need to happen. And maybe his own mortality will be the thing that helps get Pete’s head in the game.

What jewel did Ale take out of his pocket during this conversation? Taking note of that. (Juul, not jewel. Duh. Thx thethief )

Pete gets in touch w/ Alejandro’s granddaughters who tell him that Alejandro’s still pretty pissed (which is surprising to Pete but like, bro. People died). Then, Robert shows up to sweet talk Pete and show him the video (that he somehow has) of Kingston talking at the Pete Meeting. When I was watching this the first time I was like, “How long before this blows up in their face–oh, almost immediately. Cool.”

He takes Pete to his vampire nightclub and hits him with Pete’s own “I didn’t create the demand” line that you just know Brennan put a pin in to hit Pete with that Uno Reverse card.

Robert tries to get Pete to summon Nod and then just does it forcibly with some kind of blood magic when Pete is hesitant. Pete wild magic surges, kills a bunch of vamps, and Nod (super injured by being in the waking world) teleports them both to the subway.

The group (including Alejandro) meets them there so they can catch the L train to Nod but Epona shows up. And you already know from Fantasy High that Brennan is on the ACAB train (or is that AFCAB?). Epona is now wearing a crooked badge–crooked badge for a crooked cop. She wants Nod. No can do. The gang gets ready to–to quote Mr. Cubby-make some bacon while Alejandro tries to cast a spell to summon a train to Nod (the place not the person).

So I’ll see y’all next time (whenever that is) for some subway fighting and some backstory unlocking!

I have just finished PQ2. With 91% Persona collection and only one (or five) secret bosses left. I may complete them later.

Major Persona Q2 spoilers under cut.

1. Difficulty

I finish the whole game with Hard without changing the difficulty. It is kind of difficult even for an Etrian Odyssey series player like me. As the enemies get super high HP, the main strategy is to hit all the enemies with their weak point and try to go for an all-out attack. And the boost system in PQ2 is more important than PQ.

The instant kill from Neoto become a lot weaker than what she had in PQ(now she has Bless and Curse attack instead of Light and Dark). And the bosses hit us HARD (Like, full health Yusuke can be killed in one hit Fire Attack from the first boss)

If you get the free DLC Persona, the difficulty will get a lot lower even when you play it in Hard or Risky.

But when your team become stronger and stronger, the bosses kind of become easier and easier... It would be better if you try to make some sub-Persona for normal enemies and some for the bosses.

And there are some bugs with the fighting system....but they’re kind of convenient to me so I won’t complain.

2. Characters

Actually, since we have SO many characters in the game, some characters may not even talk much in the main story....but some of the others are out right get a lot of spot-light. (Most people talk about how Hamuko a.k.a P3P FemMC acts like the heroine in PQ2, when most of the P5 characters and other MCs somehow just not being in the center till the end.) And there is nearly no character development for most of the characters, The crossover element is not as important as in PQ. It’s more like since they want to leave, they choose to work together, and become super friendly once they join the team.

(Just like when you play a mobile game. You draw some characters, choose the characters you like to use them in the battle. They are teammate in your game ID but they may or may not know each other in their own story.) But the problems is solved in the special screening(特別上映), most of the character interactions are interesting. I especially like the one with Teddie joins Haru to cheer up people, shares his secret junk foods to people who feel down. And the interactions between Yukiko and Yusuke are just super funny.

Though the script writer got some setting wrong here and there.(Like, Nanako is P4MC’s cousin not niece. And Hamuko should know Theo has a sister, sometime someone calls a character by their surname sometime call the same characher by their given name etc) I think those mistakes will be fixed in US Version if there is one.

3. Main Story Line

Beware of all the spoilers...maybe not so much because I have some problem with communicating in English... But still enough to spoil some of the main parts especially near the end.

I won’t say the story is bad like most of the long comments in Amazon JP said. I think it’s quite interesting even with the first 3 labyrinths seem getting the same main idea. And the forth labyrinth summarizes them well. Most of the story focus on charging the movie endings and the character development for Hikari. When she finds her answer and decides to leave the theater which she used to evade her problems in society, I am happy with her.

But after that, the true boss shows herself. She states that she also ‘helps’ other people like Hikari to find a safe place for them to flee from their problems. And she agrees to let Hikari and all the character go because Hikari doesn’t need her shelter anymore. However, Hikari starts talking about friendship and courage and wants to help others leave their own theaters to face their problems, just like what she has been through, seems to ignore the fact that every person deals with different problems and they may not have friends to support themselves. It’s where the story becomes too “moralization” for some players. (Well, the first three labyrinths also mean to teach you something but they’re only Hikari’s problems so I happily accept them.) Hikari and the others use the ‘changed movies’ (with good endings not the hopeless endings other people keep watching) hoping others will understand. In the last minute of the boss fight, our characters are vanished and leave Hikari by herself. She keeps calling for help for some time, the MCs return and give one last attack to the boss......... So the NPCs in their theaters watch the whole thing and both decide they can do things like that too! So they start to leave. This is also a part of the story I feel very awkward.

Well, to conclude if the story line is good or bad, it depends on how do you take the moralization part of the story. If there was not any ‘Hikari please mind your own business’ thing, I think I would enjoy the story much better than now.

But overall I still think it’s not that bad... maybe just because I don’t have high standard towards everything.

Though it’s kind of sad that they leave so fast and just saying goodbye after the finally boss fight.....

4. Maps and Music

Maps become easier than in PQ, but the design still interesting. I like the scenery of last labyrinth very much. And each labyrinth has its own features.

There are lots of icons for each labyrinth. But new icons only appear when necessary. We won’t get confuse.

And the music. They’re good to match the atmosphere. Like the two BGM for the ‘out door part’ and the ‘laboratory part” of the Third Labyrinth. The loud and happily crooked sound in the 4th (the BGM become even crookeder for the last couple of floors). And the whisper sound in the 5th is just...super great.

We can also change the normal battle theme into some battle themes used in the previews main games. (Like P3, P3P, P3FES P4, P4G, P5, and the DLC PQ battle themes. By the way, they also make 4 new music for PQ2 original normal bottle theme.)

I just want to complain about the 4th floor on the 5th Labyrinth... Only an one way road provided near the downstairs. We can’t return once we got there...

Overall, the main story may not as good as PQ, but the fighting system is improved and I still enjoy the game very much.

I don’t think there will be a PQ3...at least not until P6 comes out and it’s definitely not in 3DS any more. Maybe at that time we will get PS14 or something like that LOL

I just hope if they want to do more crossover apart from something like P5U , they could keep the battling system and improve the crossover element at least to PQ standard (I know they don’t want to do similar things in PQ one more time but I think it’s necessary.)

Well...all of the characters forget what happened once they return home just like in PQ. But they still get to watch movies together. I am happy when Hamuko meet her own team...

And Ryuji had promised Hikari (at least twice if I remember right) they would watch her movie once they returned. So when the team finds the poster of high-school movie making competition, he becomes quiet for a moment, and suggests that they should go to watch it because it seems interesting. I love this little detail about him. (Well, at least we know that Hikari comes from a timeline similar to P5.)

(And I really like the fact the P4 characters love to pick on Akechi so much)

Fullmetal Alchemist OG vs. Brotherhood: Izumi (OG 27-28, BH 12)

We’re back to a 2:1 ratio.

Fullmetal Alchemist Episode 27: "Teacher"

Izumi has finally caught up with her wayward protégés, Edward and Alphonse. They have every reason to fear her as she drags them back to Dublith.

Someone is really phoning in these episode summaries.

Short recap of last episode's ending scene. Ed tries to run out the window, but is kicked by Izumi.

Izumi suddenly shifts to extreme politeness when talking to Al, because she doesn't know it's him.

Cartoon face as Al freaks out. I think it's appropriate, this scene is very over-the-top.

We cut to Mustang talking about making his move to Central. It seems like he's still in East City? Is this a flashback?

Izumi and Sig are dining extravagantly while Ed and Al are tied up in the car. LOL.

Flashback to them meeting Izumi. We get the scene from Brotherhood where they're studying human transmutation and won't tell Winry. It's much more appropriate here. Same line about them having stew for supper, so they're still staying under Pinako in this continuity. Also get the line about Ed loving stew.

While Al walks over the bridge, Ed walks on the railing. That's a nice touch.

Al brings up the story of Xerxes while they're studying. Apparently, the story is that the country was consumed in an attempt at human transmutation. Ed dismisses it as a fairy tale.

Winry is scared of the thunder.

Ed uses alchemy to make levees for the river, but it breaks and washes away their transmutation circle. That's a nice detail.

Sweatdrop on the villager when Sig tells him to back off. I don't like.

Izumi shows up to save the day. Ed notices she doesn't use a transmutation circle.

Izumi's performance seems similar in scale to what Ed did in episode 12. The brothers do note it as impressive that she transmuted so much mass at once.

Sig holds an umbrella for her afterwards. That's cute.

Izumi coughing up blood is played for comedy. I think it's appropriate, since this is not only a lighthearted scene but our introduction to her, and it amusingly undercuts her cool image.

Comedy slapstick when the brothers use the honorific for an old woman. She is mollified by a younger one, so it seems like it's a "lol women are sensitive about their age" joke, which I disapprove of.

Cartoon face when Izumi snaps at them for thinking she's a State Alchemist. They say it in regards to her circleless transmutation, so possibly it is a widespread myth that State Alchemists can do that?

Mustang assembles his team. So I guess he flew over to Central for the funeral, then flew back to East City to tie up loose ends? But I thought he already finished his transfer in episode 25.

Izumi's tattoo matches the symbol on Ed's jacket. I guess he got it from her?

Awkward interruption when Winry asks if Izumi has children. Foreshadowing!

A kid tells Izumi to fix his toy with alchemy, but she fixes it through mundane means.

Ed catches the kitten with the same stone-hand technique, though he angles it so the kitten rolls.

When the cat dies, Izumi explains she can't make a life.

Izumi reflects on how hard it is to help children understand death. In flashback, she tells Ed death is part of the flow of the universe, so you can't turn it back.

Izumi figures out Ed saw the Gate of Truth because he didn't use a circle to save the kitten earlier. Perceptive.

Izumi hits Ed so hard she draws blood when he admits to using human transmutation.

Fullmetal Alchemist Episode 28: "One is All, All is One"

Izumi strands Edward and Alphonse on Yock Island, where they originally learned an important life lesson before she took them on as apprentices years before. She wants them to have time to reflect on their mistakes.

That summary basically describes the opening scene. Unlike in Brotherhood, Winry is here. She comments on how mean Izumi is being.

Ed says he can't swim. So then how did he get out of the river in episode 10?

Ed reflects that they're not the same as they were before, which is the segue to the flashback to their first time on Yock Island.

On the ride over, the brothers don't take it seriously. They're playing with the water and calling it a sightseeing tour.

Izumi gives them a knife before departing.

Brothers comically overreact to the alchemy ban.

We cut back to present day, so I guess we'll be cutting back and forth. I can see why some people might not like that, but personally, I think it's really cool. Keeps you on your toes, and interweaves the two narratives instead of just giving you a block of information. It's also quite clever how the present-day scenes match up with the flashbacks; with their easy mastery of these skills in the present, we can see how much they learned back then.

Wrath is hiding in the trees!

In flashback, they were attacked by a guy in a mask their first night.

Ed is actually the more emotional and comedic of the two.

We see alchemy sparks from Wrath. He's wearing clothes – where did he get them?

Al sits in the ocean to pick up fish. That's clever, but seems dangerous – what if he gets water on his bloodseal? Ed also warns him he'll rust, which makes me wonder why that hasn't happened in all these years.

Back in flashback, cartoon skit when they catch the rabbit.

The fox bites into the arm that's automail in the present. I wonder if that was an intentional detail?

In the past, they try to eat mushrooms but get sick.

In the present, Al reflects that everything they're about to do might be a mistake.

Ed gets the epiphany during a fight with the masked man. He sees a dead cicada being decomposed by bugs.

If the masked man was meant to keep them alive why was he beating them up and stealing their food?

We end with Wrath appearing.

FMA Brotherhood Episode 12: "One is All, All is One"

Edward and Alphonse visit their master Izumi and her husband Sig seeking clues on the philosopher's stone. During their stay, the Elric brothers recall how they first met Izumi during a flooding in Resembool, and how they were formally accepted as Izumi's disciples after she stranded them on an island for a month as a test. They look back at how they figured out the meaning behind "one is all, all is one". Izumi realizes that the Elric brothers attempted human transmutation by their movements during hand-to-hand combat training. Realizing that they had attempted human transmutation Izumi tells the Elrics that she had also broke the taboo to bring back her baby who died during childbirth. The three make up, bonding over the hardships that they had suffered from their attempts at human transmutaton.

No alchemy opening. I guess it changes depending on whether they need to fill time.

We open with Ed flashing back to Hoenheim for no reason. I… guess this is the first time we've seen Hoenheim's face, and that's something we need to know when we see Father in a few episodes.

The Elrics meet Sig first. Cartoon where they're nervous.

There's no amusing bit with them mistaking Al for someone else, he just introduces himself immediately.

Al blushes because this is the first time he's had his head patted since he became armor. That's cute.

Izumi is in bed because she's ill. Ed assumes she hasn't gotten any better, and is cut off with a kick to the face when Izumi opens the door.

Izumi's face is in cartoon shadow.

Izumi insists she's fine, then comically vomits blood, followed by cartoon shift. I do not like.

Cartoon when Izumi hugs Sid. Ed is physically bopped by the hearts, which is funny.

The Elrics go straight to asking Izumi about the Stone.

Izumi says Hoenheim knows about the Stone. Ed gets mad and we get a flashback to Hoenheim leaving. We do actually get some of the scenes from OG 03, but we end with them seeing Trisha collapsed.

They have the same conversation about delivering a baby, but it's more natural since it just happened in this continuity. Sig looks upset at the end.

Similar scene with the levee, but the Elrics don't try to help first.

Now, since I've seen a post circulating about this, I'd like to compare some shots here. In OG:

In Brotherhood:

I'm not saying they purposefully chose to focus on her boobs in Brotherhood. It is entirely possible that they just wanted to do the cool zooming shot and accurately surmised that her hands were the most relevant point of focus. The clap does cover up her breasts quite adequately, which I’d show if I knew how to make gifs. But the fact remains that where in OG we focus on her face, in BH we focus on her chest with her head cut off. I know this is nitpicky; God knows there is so, so much worse to complain about in anime as a whole, and this anime in particular. But if you guys are gonna write essays about how Brotherhood is God's gift to feminism because it's so good at depicting boobs, I'm gonna expect you to hold it to higher standards.

Izumi coughing up blood is still comedic, but there's more blood and we spend longer time on it, which pushes it too far for me.

Izumi doesn't get taken to a doctor; the Elrics ask to be her pupil then and there. So we’re taking her illness less seriously in that aspect as well; it’s not actually debilitating. She punches them away with alchemy.

We get the same joke where she's offended they called her old.

Rest of the scene is similar, but random dude tells her they're orphans instead of Pinako. There's also no bit about sending them back if they fail their provisional training, Ed saying that won't happen, etc.

We jump straight to Yock Island. Brothers' reaction is much more over-the-top. She throws the knife to them instead of giving it.

During the flashback we get a cut back to Izumi. Sig worries the kids will die and Izumi says they'll be fine. This doesn't seem necessary. All it shows is that she somehow didn't realize the possibility kids can die if you throw them into the wilderness for a month.

Scene with the rabbit and fox is similar, but Ed doesn't get attacked.

The brothers complain about not having any fishing rods, and appear to give up on that avenue.

Ed sees Al as meat and tries to eat him. Then Ed sees ants as chocolates and starts eating them. This is how he gets the epiphany: he realizes he's alive because he eats things. I dunno, I think OG's version was more thematically appropriate to the theme of accepting death.

There's like… a clip show? when he realizes this. Unnecessary and weird.

They make… leaf capes? That’s so silly.

They feed the fox cubs when they beg for food.

Then we get the flashback to their fighting training with Izumi, but it's more cartoony. It gets an additional scene where they ask how Izumi can transmute without a circle, and she says her own body is a matrix that can invoke the circle's power. Back in the present, Ed realizes from remembering this that she must have seen the Gate as well.

Similar scene where she realizes they did human transmutation, but she only focuses on the fact Ed saw the Gate. She isn't angry at them for trying it. She then confesses, and we get a flashback to her own attempt.

Ah, the reason she tried it was because she had a lot of trouble conceiving in the first place. So she probably thought this was her only shot.

The brothers try to act like their losses haven't affected them, but we get the same hugging scene and they break down.

Conclusion

The content is pretty similar this time, but as per usual, I prefer OG's execution. I feel like we get a better grasp on Izumi's character by seeing both her menacing behavior towards the brothers and her kindness towards the villagers. I also like the technique of sending the brothers back to Yock Island in the present to segue us into the flashback.

OG also plugs the plot hole of how Izumi was planning to keep two children alive in the wilderness, and also how she could possibly know whether or not they adhered to the alchemy ban. Unfortunately, in doing so it introduces the plot hole that the guy should not have been directly interfering with them, and his presence does rather undermine the "learn from nature" idea.

I’m finally done, but this is my fatesona, Jerelyn!! or Jere, for short. I’m still working on her story and other details so her story may change over time but here’s some info about her that I currently have under the cut:

So some of her info, including age, birthday, height, appearance, and some personality traits are all based on me, so yes it is a coincidence that she shares her birthday with Siegbert lol

Appearance: Jerelyn has fair skin, dark brown (almost black eyes), and has glasses. Her hair is black with red streaks (it’s not too out there considering Peri has blue/pink hair) and is a little on the short side. Her body type is short and slightly curvy, but due to her small bust, is able to easily disguise as a male. She is female, both biologically and her gender. Her outfit is the basic male troubadour outfit with different shades of red and black, and she wears glasses. Her left boot is a darker red than her right boot. (explained below)

Personality: Jerelyn is an introverted person and likes to keep to herself, and is assumed to be someone shy and quiet. It’s hard for her to open up people; and instead likes to insult, be mean, be rude, and push people away when someone shows an interest to her. Before joining Corrin’s army, Jerelyn was very close to someone, eventually dating them. Said person became abusive and toxic towards Jerelyn, completely destroying her confidence and self esteem, among many other issues. After said event happened, Jerelyn swore that she’d never get close to someone again and, having a low self esteem and a (now) raging inferiority complex, became someone she hates: someone rude with no respect for others, which in turn, caused her to not make any friends in Corrin’s army. Jerelyn has a short temper and gets irritated easily, which makes her snarky and sarcastic when she’s in a bad mood. She loves to play pranks on others for laughs, mostly to cheer herself up. She also swears. Like a lot. Her favorite hobby is drawing, she’ll draw landscapes, her horse, even people in Corrin’s army just to pass the time between battles. Jerelyn seems to focus on her tasks too much, such as her chores, her duties, her drawings, etc., which causes her to not be self aware of her surroundings and a generally clumsy person (not as bad as Felicia though), which explains why she’s always wearing a different colored boot (She explains how in her defense, one is barely darker than the other and no one would really notice it anyways). She’s practically blind without her glasses, so once she loses them or they break she can’t go out and battle or else she’ll get herself killed.

>The reason why Jerelyn joined Corrin’s army in the first place was because Corrin wouldn’t stop pestering her to join, so Jerelyn reluctantly joined (but secretly was glad that she joined, as she’s always alone and thought a change of environment would help her overcome her heartbreak/broken trust). Corrin’s reasoning was because they saw the good in Jerelyn, how caring she is and how much she seemed to enjoy helping others. ((M!Corrin also just thinks she’s cute))

>Even though Jerelyn has a large distrust of others, her reasoning for joining the army is her want of helping others, which overrides her want to distrust others. Corrin reminded her of someone she was close to…

>Her reasoning for disguising as a male is she wanted to reinvent herself. After the heartbreak, she cut herself off from her ex and decided; she’s going to totally reinvent herself. She cuts her hair really short (her hair previously was a similar length to female!Corrin’s default hair) to symbolize a new beginning. She also dyes her hair red, to stand out and not be recognizable from her previous image. She chooses to crossdress specifically because she doesn’t like the female troubadour outfit; and decided to go the whole way with being male by also faking having a deeper voice, trying to seem taller (and failing), and trying to act “manly” and traditionally masculine. This act is put to a stop once she joins Corrin’s army, after they discover that she isn’t actually male.

>With the whole idea of reinventing herself; Jerelyn also vows from that day that she will never, ever, ever become close to someone again. She insists that “they aren’t really being nice to me, they’re just pitying me. They’re just trying to be nice. They’re planning on taking advantage of me.” etc. She becomes less trusting, less optimistic, less nice. She instead turns into someone pessimistic, with a bleak outcome on life. She pushes people away (as shown when Corrin tries to recruit her), she becomes rude and insults others to get them away from her. She fears that she’ll be hurt again by someone she loves.

>Jerelyn has a scar on her right breast (two scratches) that come from the person who betrayed her (exact cause of scar is unknown). Aside from that, she has some scratches and scars due to her brother’s cat biting and attacking her.

>She’s really really picky and if the mess hall makes something she doesn't like, she probably won't eat that day. Her least favorite foods of all time are vegetables and tends to eat preferably sweets.

>A (main) reason for Jerelyn being a healer is because (metaphorically), she didn’t have anyone to heal her own wounds when she was going through a toxic/abusive relationship. She acts this way in the hopes that others will treat her the same.

>Jerelyn is NOT a morning person at all, she hates rising early and is a Night Owl. If she could she would stay in bed/sleep till 3 pm. It also explains why she’s always grumpy on early missions, she just wants to catch up on sleep.

>Jerelyn actually hates bathing in front of others and will often try to bathe when everyone is asleep (so ranging from anywhere between 11 pm and 3 am). She will sometimes sneak around the mess hall around these hours to eat or look for a snack. Because of these habits, Jerelyn has bags under her eyes and doesn’t have a proper sleeping schedule.

>Her horse’s name is Titania, she’s had her since Jerelyn was 11 years old.

>Jerelyn’s family consist of her parents and her younger brother, Levi (15 years old), as well as Titania and her brother’s cat, Happy.

>Jerelyn will sometimes have nightmares about her past relationship and the abuse, or of her family being disappointed in her/disappear when she arrives back home. Due to these nightmares she is unable to sleep most of the time, which is why she’s always napping on her free time.

>She has a short temper as mentioned before, and Jerelyn is the type of person to cry when she’s angry. She hates people seeing her in that kind of state so she either isolates herself in her tent or rides Titania to a “secret” spot where she cries and eventually tires herself out onto a nap or calms down and draws something (( cough cough Corrin cough cough ))

>In said “secret” spot, apart from crying Jerelyn goes there to draw, to just ride Titania, or to nap. There's an amazing view of mountains and skies and it helps her focus on her drawings.

Good Habits: She likes to help people and is one of the reasons she became a healer, she wants to help others and can’t stand seeing a person who is hurt or without help, despite how mean she acts. She is actually really caring for others in Corrin’s army despite her though exterior.

Bad Habits: She (was) a bit too trusting and the feeling still lingers on, gets irritated easily/has a bad temper (and thus begins to make snarky and sarcastic comments), her clumsiness can lead to bad situations sometimes, she swears a lot, she pushes everyone away, she has a inferiority complex and believes to be inferior to the other healers in her army, and just inferior to everyone in general. Jerelyn is also someone who gets jealous easily.

Origin: Jerelyn comes from a pretty normal family, nothing really wrong with it. Despite her very rocky relationship with her parents, her family has never had any problems. She had always been curious about healing and medicines, and decided from an early age that she was gonna be a healer, since she felt like she wasn’t a strong enough fighter. Jerelyn has always had an inferiority complex growing up, always feeling like she was never enough and that her best efforts weren’t good enough, which slightly skewed her perception of herself. Upon meeting a boy when she was around 16-17, she fell in love with him and they soon began dating. Their relationship however turned abusive and toxic, with her boyfriend abusing her mostly emotionally and mentally, sometimes physically (note her scars on her right breast). He made her feel worthless about herself, he made her feel as if no one would want her, he made her feel like he was the best she was ever gonna get. The relationship eventually made Jerelyn somewhat dependant on him, and was a very unhealthy relationship overall. This relationship, her first relationship, left her with an unbelievably low self esteem and no self confidence whatsoever, as well as boosted her inferiority complex and made her believe that she will never be good enough. By the time she was 18, after one instance where he attacked her physically (gaining her scars on her breast), she had decided that enough was enough, she wasn’t gonna take any more from him. She felt robbed of her first relationship, this isn’t what a normal and healthy relationship should look like. She ran away in hopes of cutting him off of her life for good, leaving her past behind her. She never told her family where she was heading, and the thought about her family’s reaction to her disappearance, and thoughts of her family in general still lingers on and keeps her up at night sometimes. Once she ran away, she reinvented herself as a brand new person, chopping off her long hair into a short boy-like hairstyle and dying red in her hair in hopes of never being found. She disguises herself as a male, going as far as crossdressing (male troubadour outfit) and deepening her voice to try and fool others. She even went as far as to give herself a new name for the time being, Jeremy, instead of Jerelyn. Something something about Corrin finding her and shit and then she joins the army.
