Thank you so much for the ask!! So glad I get to talk about writing :)

I will give you something from the June entry (yeah, I know) of the otp of the years challenge because that is the wip I am primarily working on right now. Not that I am writing much at all, but anyway.

The prompt kinda sounds like I should only give you spoken word but I rarely let people say more than a few sentences at a time. And it's supposed to be LONG, so you get a bit of a scene. Not sure it's really a paragraph either but it works on its own, so there's that. And there's a long-ish monologue at the start. Plus, it's definitely one of the juicy parts of the fic. And by juicy I mean angsty, so ...sorry for that? There weren't many happy bits in June so far

I think it is just short enough not to put it under a 'read more'. So, there you go:

“That is not your choice” Mels’ voice was just as sharp as the Doctor’s had been when she’d repeated the order. “You do not get to choose whether something is too dangerous for me. Do I look like I care? I know staying with you is dangerous. But I would much rather be in danger with you than be without you. Again: I can protect you. I am the best person for the job, darling. I understand that it’s scary because you won’t be able to protect me back, but I’ll have Lee. And the TARDIS! I will be fine. And so will you. And I will gladly put my life on the line if I get to stay with you. Because being away and not knowing what will happen to you, to any of you, always waiting if you’ll ever come back? That is so much worse.”

The Doctor gulped and her hand shot out, covering Mels’ on the controls.

“It’s not just that” she admitted. “I wish it was just that, love, that I’d only be worried for your sake.”

Mels pulled her hand away, turning on a few dials instead.

“What is it then?” she spat out.

“We need you safe” the Doctor started, drawing a deep breath and then powering on. “Because you are the woman who kills the Oncoming Storm.”

“I just told you” Mels exclaimed. “I don’t believe I will endanger you, I can fulfill the prophecy by protec-“

She fell quiet when she saw how despairing the Doctor looked.

“What?”

“We need you as a fail-safe” the Doctor said hollowly.

For a blissful moment, Mels didn’t understand what she meant. Then it hit her.

“You-” she had to clear her throat and try again because the stupid words didn’t want to come out properly. “You want me to kill you?”

“The fact that you exist suggest I will-“ the Doctor started explaining her motives again, but Mels wasn’t looking for justification. She was hoping for denial and waiting for confirmation.

“Doctor” she interrupted, more gently than she had intended. “Do you want me to kill you?”

The Doctor closed her eyes in defeat. “Yes.”

Robin plucks a fry from the container and dunks it into her vanilla milkshake. "Look, I'm probably the last person you should ask about this."

Steve frowns. "Who else, then?"

"I don't know, Eddie?"

"Nope, no, absolutely not." Shaking his head emphatically, Steve swipes the fry from Robin's fingers. He stuffs it into his mouth in frustration.

"Hey, what the fuck!"

"I can't ask Eddie because he's the problem," Steve says through a mouthful of fries.

"I thought the problem is that you're gay now."

Steve levels her with a lethal stare and Robin rolls her eyes. She can't believe that this is fucking happening to her. "I'm not gay. At least fully. I like girls."

"Okay--" Robin throws her hands in the air in exasperation. "So you can't consult Eddie because, what? He's the one who turned you gay?"

"Half gay?"

"Fuck it, half gay, I guess. You like Eddie and you want to ask him out but you can barely figure yourself out."

"There's gotta be a word for that, right?" Steve asks. Robin blinks at him. He blinks back with equal fervor as she reaches for another fry and swirls it into her milkshake. "Come on, you're a lesbian, you gotta know this."

Robin groans before taking a bite into her ice cream fry. "Just because I'm a lesbian doesn't mean I have any authority on this."

"You gotta know more than I do, at least."

"Okay, I'm gonna level with you, Steve. I like boobs. I know that there's a word for a girl liking boobs because assholes like to sling it around"--Steve opens his mouth to interject--"but, just because, I'm more learned than those assholes doesn't mean I know shit about dip. Sure, I like foreign films and listen to Patti Smith, but I don't know anything about the larger concepts. I'm not your guru on this."

Steve frowns. Bites his lip and pinches his nose. "No, you're right."

"I don't know anything about guys liking other guys, and I guess there's gotta be something that defines your predicament, but we're two dingbats living in the middle of nowhere. We don't have a roadmap or anything."

You know, for the longest time, Robin thought she would be alone in all this. She remembers pressing her face into the pillow and sobbing until the whole damn thing became moist with puddles of tears and snot, because no one would ever understand the way she really felt. She'd have to pretend for the rest of her life.

When she grew older, she knew that one day, she was gonna run off to the city and find girls like her who would get it. But she's never been able to go to the city for herself, couldn't afford a license or a car, so it was just her. Lonely Robin Buckley who loved girls who didn't even think of her.

But Steve's looking back at her now the same way he looked at her in the bathroom back at Starcourt and he's asking her how to live his own life. Fuck, she doesn't even know how to start hers yet.

"You know," she says, swallowing, "one day we'll figure it out. You and I."

Steve cocks an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? Figure out the mysteries of the universe and everything?"

Robin chuckles and tosses a fry in Steve's direction. She says, "How about we figure out how you'll woo Eddie first, tiger."

The way Luz's thank you drawing got rejected by the person it was for when she thought she finally found someone who wouldn't make fun of her for her eccentric behavior, that she is worthless..and then the drawing does get recognized, that it's beautiful and why would it get thrown away. She was finally understood (I am in shambles help-)

It's such a funny one I honestly find it impossible to get mad at even when people mistake it for an actual truth about the characters but JUST TO MAKE IT CLEAR

THIS is how marcille reacts when Falin is predictably just as enthusiastic about eating monsters as her brother was.

That is not the face of a woman who thinks this trait is lovely and endearing as long as it's exhibited by the girl she loves. That is the face of a woman who is taking 7d8 psychic damage and yet knows deep in her heart she won't like Falin any less for it.

The way young Marcille reacts to Falin eating berries Marcille can't recognize but Falin knows are safe is pretty similar to how she reacts to eating monsters years later, albeit with more fear than disgust. The difference in her relationships with Laios and Falin isn't just that she's attracted to Falin, it's because the Touden siblings, while similar, are in fact different people. Not just genderswaps of each other.

Also, I think you all already know this, but just to say it: she doesn't actually hate Laios for any of his freak tendencies either. He's one of her best friends. She's just a lot quicker to be outwardly exasperated with him while she's quieter about it with Falin.
