The Truth is Out There

Looking into Plagiarism: Reunification and MrsFizzle-a case of Boy Meets World Plagiarism or not?

Many of the complaints I found on FFN’s community for reporting plagiarism are typical copy/paste/change names stories.

But let’s look at these two points: 1) That is, both imitation (or outright copying) and failure to be truthful about that imitation are necessary attributes to call it plagiarism. 2) it is the lie (of commission or omission) about sourcing that makes it plagiarism.

The story I was most curious about was this claim against a story written by MrsFizzle in the Boy Meets World fandom. I started to reach out to the author who made the claim, Mercedes Aria, to ask about the details she mentioned in her Author’s Notes. Then I read her Tumblr post, Why Am I Blocked: A Tumblr Ask Answered and decided not to.

This is a case that goes beyond plagiarism and into harassment big time.

I started to examine this case by reading the stories in question, however, it will take me some time to do that. While MrsFizzle’s story is relatively short, Mercedes Aria’s series is not. It’s extensive and according to what she’s said on her Tumblr and in ANs, the stolen works span the series. I finished MrsFizzle’s story and have only gotten started on Mercedes Aria’s main story. But the similarities are there and obvious.

Given the length of Autumn in Philadelphia, I’ve been taking breaks to investigate the public claims against MrsFizzle who also goes by Kaylie Night and, according to her FFN profile, is a published author. However, it’s hard to fully investigate the claims since Mercedes Aria, though highly active, is unwilling to share the document detailing her case against MrsFizzle. She says on Tumblr and Reddit that she has been approached by people claiming to want to help her then demand to see the link.

MrsFizzle, on the other hand, appears inactive across all her sites since at least September 2024 except for one site with the last activity being December 12, 2024. As of this writing (January 2025) even her author’s website does not work.

What I can look into raises a lot of questions.

Specifically, the comments she left on Mercedes Aria’s stories. You can look at these comments yourself on Autumn in Philadelphia and Flashbacks (on AO3). MrsFizzle was very into the story and the OC Mercedes Aria wrote, however she also seemed terribly upset that story did not go the way she wanted and proceeded to go into detail about it even though she admitted to not reading the summary or tags and that she shouldn’t leave the comment at all. Mercedes Aria seemed upset to have caused any distress (MrsFizzle claims in her comment that she “cried for three hours. Fell asleep, slept through the night, woke up crying again” over the story not turning out the way she wanted. MA seemed extremely sweet and sincere, and the exchange that went on for a while over a couple of chapters ended agreeably.

I checked MrsFizzle’s Boy Meets World stories and could not find any comments by Mercedes Aria. Because I already see similarities in her story Reunification with Autumn in Philadelphia, I read the comments Reunification had. The comments are what sparked my curiosity because they are so strange.

I think that one anon is talking about when New York Times wrote that weird article speculated about Taylor’s sexuality and then someone from Taylor’s team hit back by reporting to CNN and decided to make a statement that randomly mentioned Shawn by saying 

“That article wouldn’t have been allowed to be written about Shawn Mendes or any male artist whose sexuality has been questioned by fans.”

Because not only was it was just kind of uncalled for to blatantly named drop Shawn, but it was also just untrue. Shawn Mendes has literally had people make post and write whole articles about his sexuality since he was 15. Not to mention before Taylor even had the whole AI situation where people were making those disgusting photos of her, people were literally doing that to Shawn Mendes on Twitter by Photoshopping pictures of him with gay porn stars or with Nick Jonas….again Shawn was only 15/16 when that first started. His sexuality has literally been questioned and reported on since he was a kid.

But what you said about Shawn's sexuality, it's true. I've interacted with ppl (irl and online) who joke about Shawn/Camilla and say he's using Camilla as his "beard" because they believe he's gay. Gay or gay-speculated celebs go through HELL online if they're not out. They are either forced to come out (for example, Lil Nas X and his underage nudes being leaked) or bullied relentlessly about it.

But the hypocrisy and ignorance shows. Taylor is not an outlier and male celebs sexualities have always been speculated. Her team will do anything to frame her as a victim (in this case, misogyny) to the point where they will just straight up lie.

I don't love the Noa cheating thing, but I guess within the plot it kinda makes sense with her having more in common with Jen than she does with Shawn. Like Jen understands what she's dealing with more than Shawn could (even if he wanted to) simply because she's experienced it with her mom. This got kind of lengthy (lol, no one has been surprised less), so I've placed most of it under the cut. Also to help avoid detailed spoilers for people who are trying to do so.

I agree that the plot isn't necessarily a bad one for the story (like I've mentioned a million times that I don't like love triangles or infidelity plots, but they can be executed well, and depending on how this situation turns out, I'm still open to being okay with the plot line in theory), just one that makes me feel highly critical of the characters involved. And personally a bit sad, as Noa was my favorite in season 1 and I can't currently honestly say that in season 2.

I can definitely see why Jen (or even just the situation surrounding Jen) is more exciting & appealing to Noa, particularly at this time. She's a teenager who has been in a fairly steady long term (by teenage standards) relationship with a stable, but possibly slightly boring, guy. Noa formed a connection with Jen when she was at a low point (taking the fall for her mom), and the kind of bond that you can create when you're spending so much time with someone outside of your normal context can be intense. And Jen is a secret (at least we have not seen Noa tell anyone else about their romantic connection), which is thrill seeking and a little "dangerous," without (usually) actually being that dangerous. Jen is mysterious. There's a lot Noa doesn't know about her (illustrated clearly by her having no concept of Jen's father or her relationship with him prior to this episode). And I do agree that some of the closeness Noa feels to Jen has to do with their commonalities and relationships with their moms. Jen gets the stigma of having been to juvie. Jen gets what it's like to live with a mother who is an addict. Jen understands what it means to have to struggle to pay bills and be the "adult" in her household when she shouldn't have to be.

The thing is, I'm not entirely sure Jen is actually being honest about her backstory/home life at all. I certainly have some suspicions about that. It could all be true, or it also could be largely fabricated (or selectively true) in order to bond with Noa. Hard to say at this point. The reason that I doubt Jen's honesty (when I am currently giving the benefit of the doubt to Christian and Johnny) is because we've seen her lie multiple times, casually, on screen. If Christian or Johnny are also doing that, we don't know it yet. Jen's family (or her possible lies about her family) have become plot relevant with Noa borrowing money to bail Jen out for stealing from her father, so that definitely makes me question how Jen and her family (or her lies) might be important in the following episodes.

So, all that being said, while I can understand why Noa is interested in Jen (even though I would have personally much preferred a "Shawn and Noa broke up between seasons and then this girl she knows from juvie shows up at summer school" plot, just due to my own pet peeves and the reinforcement of negative stereotypes around bisexuality) the way in which she's gone about conducting herself is just really pretty shit. It's okay to fall out of love with someone. It's okay to end a relationship, not because things were bad, but because it was no longer fulfilling. It's okay to realize that you feel more attracted to and connected to someone else, and therefore it's time to reevaluate and possibly end your relationship. These things happen all the time. People still get hurt, but it's not because anyone is a villain. The problem is... Noa isn't doing any of that?

The only dissatisfaction we have seen of her relationship with Shawn this season is that he didn't go to Mouse's birthday. She also doesn't like/get along with his mom, but it's not as if Shawn was upset with her over this, he recognized and understood this issue, and even pushed back against his mother when he witnessed it in person. Noa has continued engaging in a physical/sexual relationship with Shawn (generally prompted by her), as well as a romantic one, while lying to him about her past and present relationship with Jen. She has not only shamelessly introduced him to the person she's cheating on him with, but had the audacity to play into Shawn's affection/understanding of how hard things have been with Noa's mom in order to get him to pay for Jen's bail. Two thousand dollars is a lot of money, and the fact that she could sit there, ask for that, play into how Jen is dealing with the same stuff Noa has, lie to him about why Jen was arrested in the first place, fail to mention that it was Noa's plan to steal from Jen's father, and then immediately run off to kiss Jen behind his back is... Well, it's something.

Up until 2x04, I simply felt bad for Shawn, because he (that we currently know of) hasn't done anything to deserve this, but I also thought Noa was at least a little conflicted about this situation. Her behavior in 2x04 showed absolutely no regret/remorse for her actions, which reflects absolutely terribly on her character. I was expecting at least a "I don't know if I can do this," or something after the kiss with Jen, where we see her immediately feel guilty, but nope. Just all giggles while cheating with the girl your boyfriend just spent 2k on helping out. Like forget about Shawn as person/character for a second, this is about Noa and who she is, what kind of integrity she has, and it is revealing a really heartless side to her. I hope the show has plans to try to build her back up in the future.

All that being said, (aside from the whole "bisexuals are cheaters" stereotype that is being reinforced) I think the storyline could be really interesting. Will Noa feel bad about her actions next episode when she's had a little time to reflect, or no? Is Jen being honest? Does Shawn already know? I actually think (if this is genuinely plot relevant and not just side romance drama) this whole situation could be a legitimately good use of the love triangle/infidelity plot (even though those tropes are generally not my favorite). It definitely feels like Noa has a big storm coming, and I can't say she hasn't earned it. I'm very curious to see what her test is, and how the Jen & Shawn situation will play into it. Is she going to have to make some sort of decision, like you said?

Right now, on a personal level, I do not ship any of these three with each other. I'm very pro "go sit in a corner and think about what you've done" for them atm. And if Shawn is innocent, I hope he gets a cathartic moment by the end of the season. So... that's where I'm at with it. I get it, I can see ways in which it may work for the plot, it makes me very upset with Noa as a character.

in the commentary shawn levy refers to logan wearing the uniform as his hair shirt. logan is self-castigating and taking on unearned guilt. his perspective is biased against himself. so when the shirt explodes off him during an act of self-sacrifice he is no longer bound to that guilt.

Evil (TV)

Ok, you all were right about IWTV. Might you consider Evil? The show follows a hot Catholic priest-in-training, the hot atheist shrink to whom he is desperately attracted, and their hot lapsed Muslim tech guy as they investigate and try to prove/disprove demonic possessions. It is incredibly, delightfully unhinged. Part of it is that the show started on network TV, then moved to streaming in its second season, leading to the absolute best evolution where characters who were reasonably well-behaved start spouting "fuck" at the drop of a hat in S2, including a delightful nearly silent episode that was actually filmed while they still thought they'd be on network, so after filming they replaced the "thought dialogue" onscreen that the actor thought he was filming with a stream of "fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck," to hilarious effect. There's body horror, Catholic guilt, an amazingly toxic mother (Christine Lahti, having the time of her life), four kids who have clearly been instructed to just yammer every time they are on screen together--making them more realistic than 80% of TV kids from the get-go--examination of misogyny and anti-Blackness, critiques of modern internet culture, and the occasional Wallace Shawn. Also, the tech guy is Aasif Mandvi and the hot priest is Mike Colter (Jessica Jones/Luke Cage). And the bad guy is Michael Emerson (Harold Finch), chewing scenery like he only gets paid if he goes over the top.

Shorter rec: What if Hannibal and The X-Files had a deeply online baby? My one caveat is that this is a deeply cynical show, which feels a little like watching Cabaret: It's a sick culture and the show is not interested in fixing it, only in displaying it pinned open on a table so we can poke at the nastiest parts.

Honestly, if Shawn was in Total Drama Island, he would've dominated most of the challenges, and make any team he was in win.

the First Challenge: He would jump off, and from what we have seen he made a whole ass plan on an Anti-Zombie.

The Big Sleep: He trained himself to sleep with his eyes open for any danger, so that would buy him some time for his team for a while.

Dodgebrawl: Is extremely good with his body and his reflexes and would prove a challenge for the opposite team.

Not Quite Famous: Armpit Opera, no more.

The Sucky Outdoors: We have NEVER seen this man sleep in a house and is pretty good with outdoors, and even knows about the posionous apple.

Phobia Factor: He beat the shit out of the Chris Bots since he thought they were zombies.

Up The Creek: He was shown to be a great leader and even brought food for his team mates before the merge, so I don't see him actually lose this one.

Paintball Deer Hunter: Dude basically lives in the forest and had a whole challenge about climbing trees. All he has to do is be in the trees and beat everyone there.

If You Can't Take The Heat: A toss up, really

Who Can You Trust?: This one he will actually make the first challenge where he might actually danger the team.

Basic Training: This man carried Jasmine up a hill for couple of hours, I think he can survive this challenge.

X-Treme Torture: He is so winning at least a point for his team due to him being extremely well built.

on the shawn x noa x jen stuff, there’s something i’ve been thinking about.

in season 1, noa thanks shawn for supporting her and being by her side post-juvie. she implied that they had been together before she went to juvie, he waited for her, and still continues to defend her, trust her, etc.

they became official in march just after karen’s party. she was sent to juvie after. cute, fine.

but then jen is introduced and we’re told that her and noa were together in juvie.

were noa and shawn on a break that has never been mentioned? or was she in a relationship with shawn while getting with jen in juvie? if her and shawn were on a break or something while she went to juvie, i can’t imagine why they wouldn’t have mentioned that already. yikes this is so bad…

i understand that people want queer representation but the representation needs to be good. i can’t believe how many people i’m seeing ship noa x jen without even mentioning shawn. like, can she at least break up with him? i agree, even if he turns out to be bad, noa doesn’t know that but it’s repeatedly being a terrible partner. and i’d be shocked if - like you said, noa’s challenge wasn’t related to the love triangle.

Okay, so I went back to check my facts. I think the implication is that Shawn & Noa were genuinely a couple while she was in juvie (but maybe not completely official?) because in 2x02 Jen asks, "...what ever happened to that guy you were seeing when we were in juvie?" and Noa responds, "Shawn." And I don't see why they would bring it up like this (like they could have had Jen say something like, "Hey, what ever happened with you and that guy you told me you had a crush on when we were in juvie?") if they didn't want it to feel like Noa's past with Jen is illicit. So I'm also assuming Noa & Shawn's relationship is not open (seems like they would have mentioned this considering Noa's plot this season) and therefore this is just fully cheating. Also, this explains why she doesn't tell any of the other girls about this- if Jen was just a past relationship, Noa wouldn't have a reason to keep it a secret from them, but if her past with Jen means she was cheating on Shawn... Well, that's a different story.

I do think the timeline is a little muddled, because I don't think they planned any of this from the beginning, but it definitely seems like they're doubling down on the "Noa and Shawn were exclusively together when she met Jen" version of events.

And I'm with you. The reinforcement of negative stereotypes of bisexuality really bothers me, too. While, in universe, Noa cheating on Shawn (and treating him the way she has been this season) wouldn't be any better/worse if she were doing it with another guy instead (was Noa confirmed as bi or pan or anything in season 1 because I don't remember it?) the show making a choice to portray her character in a way that unavoidably (even if unintentionally) links her sexuality to her lack of loyalty is disappointing.

Shawn may turn out to be evil, but man is this storyline brutal for him regardless. I honestly can't root for Noa/Shawn as a couple at all, because if he's a bad guy, then obviously I don't want them together, but if he's a good guy then he deserves so much better. I can't root for Noa/Jen either, because this relationship is built upon lies and deceit and a serious disregard for another person's feelings. Honestly I think Noa needs to take a romantic break and reevaluate what she wants, who she wants to be, and how to proceed with a healthy relationship, but this is a dramatic tv show, so odds of that happening seem low.

Why I started watching WWE again

The earliest memory I have of professional wrestling is The Undertaker/Yokozuna feud. This fond memory was the catalyst to moulding my enjoyment to this form of entertainment.

Years later I began watching WWE/WWF on a full-time basis because it was aired weekend mornings. The Stone Cole Steve Austin/Vince McMahon feud hooked me. As a child, it was an awesome to see an authority type figure getting their ass kicked. Both McMahon and Austin produced classics moments in wrestling history. I bought PPV’s on VHS such as St Valentine’s Day Massacre. I must of watched that tape a couple of times a day over the next few weeks.

WWE became a part of my life. I made it my business to watch Raw and Smackdown every week; I even watched Velocity and Sunday Night Heat. I couldn't get enough! I tried to get my hands on stuff from independents and in 2004 I did some pro wrestling training. But if WWE was such an important part of my life then why did I stop watching it?

2017 wasn’t the worst year in WWE. The Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens feud was fantastic, The Hardyz returned, Kurt Angle was inducted into the Hall of Fame, The Shield reunited, and Samoa Joe made his debut. Despite all of this, a babyface Roman Reigns just couldn’t get over and Jinder Mahal was WWE Champion. I’m not even going to go into the House of Horrors match, but it was something. But it’s OK to have bad moments. They can teach you to never repeat those mistakes again…or can they?

2018 was worse. Some moments left a bad taste in my mouth such as Dean Ambrose turning heel on his fellow Shield member, Seth Rollins. This was the same night that Roman announced that he had leukemia. What the fuck was Vince thinking? The storyline was uglier than a dog’s dinner. Dean would leave the company less than a year later. WWE also went into a controversial deal with Saudi Arabia. The Saudi PPV saw Shane McMahon win WWE World Cup tournament becoming the ‘’Best in the World’’.  This is the same PPV where Shawn Michaels came out of retirement for an awful tag team bout. The worst part to 2018 was on December 17, when Vince McMahon came to the ring followed by Stephanie McMahon, HHH and Shane. Stephanie would go on to say ‘’We haven’t been doing a good for you lately.’’ She would rattle on about not listening to us, the fans. We were told that we were now the authority. This was such a surreal moment.

Months prior we got the first All In PPV that would eventually lead to the formation of All Elite Wrestling. The All In card was stacked and displayed some incredible matches that left me wanting more. I started to binge watch BTE on YouTube as well as a history The Bullet Club. I began to attend Irish wrestling shows from Over The Top Wrestling. The first shows I went to featured Will Ospreay, Gunther and Pac. Seeing new talent and the interesting ways they told stories was refreshing. Witnessing smaller promotions putting on better shows compared to a billion-dollar company creating mediocre content was shocking to me.

Appointing us - the fans - as the authority figure was a great rib by WWE as they continued to sling crap in our faces as 2019 saw The Undertaker battling Goldberg in another Saudi show that resulted embarrassing bout. You can visibly see the disappointed on Taker's face post-match. Kurt Angle would have his retirement match against Baron Corbin. Angle is on my mount Rushmore, so for his career to lead to anti-climax was a disgrace. Seth Rollins was on a babyface run and I was enjoying it, until the infamous Hell in the Cell match with The Fiend. This match should have been a decent bout, but the arena was casted in ugly red light and the finish came in form a DQ. During a live reaction broadcast WWE were putting out at the time, X-Pac said ‘’You may not ask me back for one of these but how do you get DQ’d in a Hell in a fricking Cell match.’’ I often ask myself this. Things would get worse when Kofi Kingston was squashed in seven seconds against Brock Lesner. Kofi’s six-month title reign came to an abrupt and miserable end and so did my love for WWE. At this point I felt cheated and insulted. How can I continue to watch a product that simply didn't care?

At the tail end of 2019, AEW was launched. The new promotion featured new faces, different styles of wrestling and an opportunity for talent to thrive. I gravitated towards this. I periodically watched WWE clips, but it was clear Vince was out of touch. Talent were also fired during the pandemic. It was as if Vince didn't care anymore. Remembers Erik Rowen’s spider? On top of all this, Vince's scandal was aired across the internet. During this insane time, Vinny had the balls to appear on Smackdown just to wave his ego around.

So, what's changed?

I watched night 1 of WrestleMania and I was impressed. The highlight was Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair. I liked what I saw with the Bloodline storyline. It was great to see Cody Rhodes, and a heel Dominik Mysterio intrigued me. I kept up with things and noticed consistent story telling. With Vince gone, it felt like everything was moving in a cohesive way. Yes, Vince gave us years of entertainment, but he also held on for too long and it was clear it was causing damage.

I decided to tune back into WWE full time and write about my viewing experience. If you’ve read my past posts, then you know that I still have issues with WWE, but I’ve never seen a promotion do anything perfect. I think WWE do a much better job with their women’s division and keeping storylines simple and clear, but they lack on match quality with many silly finishes. They play things safe, but that's okay. For now I'm enjoying the ride. And that's good enough.

opinion/hcs on Shawn Flynn x JJ, ik they are a rare pair, so I wanna know what your opinion/idea of them are 👀

hi!! omg mr shawn flynn (and other non canons for that matter) i'd love to expand upon since technically they existed in my lore at one point.......but in general i havent thought much about that pairing!! personally i LOVE shawn flynn and Jacques septíc being disaster artists that make out a lot hehe

also for shawn in the past i saw him as being kinda a douchbag and would be the kind of guy jameson would go out with cause he reminds him of anti, and then would treat him like crap. but nowadays i can see shawn being kinda like a cool big brother to jameson! they like "old timey" stuff and are passionate about art, and i feel like shawn might take a liking to the little shy dude cause he sees loads of potential in him!! he would definitely beat up any assholes that gave him a hard time 👍

ig my final thoughts are that i dont ship them, but i DO see shawn and jacques adopting jameson. he has two art dads that have DEFINITELY killed people before. but theyre cool so its fine
