Alice Waddington to Direct “Dept.H” Adaptation

Alice Waddington has signed on to direct a film adaptation of Matt Kindt and Sharlene Kindt’s Dept.H. T.S. Nowlin is adapting the screenplay. The graphic novel is published at Dark Horse Comics. Mike Richardson, Keith Holdberg and Paul Schwake are producing the film.

“When a renowned scientist is mysteriously killed in a deep-sea research station, his estranged daughter is sent six miles below the surface to investigate. With the pressure building and the water rising, she must race against time. To solve the murder, as she uncovers the truth behind the station’s purpose.” (Dark Horse Comics)

I really need to cut back on my comics. Lately I've been scooping up series after series that have been recommended to me by the one guy at my shop, and it's starting to get a little out of hand. There's so much good stuff out there, though! From the feel-good roller derby shenanigans of Slam to the artsy and weird world of The Electric Sublime, comics continue to do cool things.

This recommendation spree began with an indie series called Dept. H, which was recommended to me based on my interest in unique art styles like Christian Ward's in ODY-C. I wasn't actually in the market for new books at the time - comics cost money - but the premise and art style were so intriguing that I decided to give it a look anyway. And now, at the risk of making some kind of terrible ocean/fish-based pun, I'm hooked.

Does Black Hammer represent Black Panther?

Jeff and the Black Hammer ‘45 team are definitely trying to represent the racism that was rampant in the 40′s during WWII. It’s kinda nice to blatantly lay out how things were, and the multiple kinds of tension that brews between war vets. 

This is definitely one of those stories where more is not said than said, and I’m not sure where this is going. Literally, the characters are in the present and driving to their next location. It’s obvious the characters regret something. 

One more issue and we’ll get to that answer though.
