Day 10 of Kinkmas: After The Dance With Riff

Y/N’s POV

There’s 2 weeks until the homecoming dance and I don’t have a date, which I really don’t care if I don’t because I rather stay home anyway watching TV, read books, or do my homework, like I normally do on a Saturday night.

One day, Michael Tamblyn, also known as, Riff, asks me to go to the homecoming dance, which I got so excited about because he’s the kindest and sweetest (to me) boy I’ve ever met.

Yes, I’m in the Jets but the reason why I’m in it because I met Debby in English 1 and she introduced me to the Jets. They told me that another gang name Sharks are dangerous, I’ve met María and her brother’s girlfriend they are so sweet and I try to treat them like they treat me and they appreciate it.

When I met Riff, I fell in love, but I can’t believe that he asks me to go to the dance.

When Riff picked me up we picked up some other jets including their girlfriends. We arrive at the school and the gymnasium looks pretty decorated! Riff holds my hand and takes me to the dance floor to dance. We begin to dance and our friends join in, I feel someone bump into me, I turn my head to see Velma and her date, I get excited to see them and Velma and I do this little hand gesture to each other, Riff turns us around and continues to dance but I’m hugging him while we dance.

I look around and see Tony, I tape Riff on the shoulder and he looks behind him and he sees Tony. We walk up to him and we let him join where the jets are at but he wanted to walk around.

Some of the Sharks come in the gymnasium doors, I already know what’s coming. I see María, I give her a little smile, We made an agreement that we would make little gestures to each other but we will make them not that obvious.

Riff and I kept on dancing and apparently Riff bumps into someone and then it turned into world war three, everyone yelling at each other, Riff screaming at the Shark in front of us and him holding close to me, I wanted to leave but we all hear a whistle and everyone payed attention to whoever blew the whistle.

The judge kept on telling us to behave, have you ever met Riff, he doesn’t behave at all. We do the dance but things go overboard, we ignore his orders so we danced on our own, it was so fun.

After the dance, Riff and I went somewhere, we went to West Point, where people go to make out. When we got there, he gets into the back seat and we start to make out. He gets my straps of my dress off my shoulders and he kisses my neck, I moan. He begins to give me hickeys which made me moan again. I get on top of him and begin to give him some hickeys, he holds me tight to keep me in place.

After a while, clothes on the car floor, moaning in the car, and the car is kinda rocking. Riff is going in and out of me. We’re protected don’t worry! I get on top of Riff and start to ride him. I can hear him groaning, I can hear other people screaming and groaning which makes me go faster, Riff sits up and kisses my chest.

After us making out, we get back home and my parents almost killed me because of the hickeys that Riff gave me but I don’t care, he’s so good to me that I sometimes forget that he’s done that to me before.

"You know, normally people actually... you know dance at a dance, girly girl."

Y/N smiled shyly at her friend. Riff had come over to where she had huddled herself into the corner of the gym, hoping to let the eyes of her peers pass over her. She should've known Riff wouldn't be able to do that, considering it was he who had spent the better part of the last few weeks trying to convince her to take a night off of work to attend the dance.

"I'm just having a drink," Y/N lifted the cup of punch to emphasise her point. Something fluttered in her chest at the slight eye roll it garnered from Riff, who folded his arms and leaned against the wall beside her.

"Well I'm sure by now you're nice and hydrated and ready to take the dance floor by storm, right doll?" He teased, eyebrows raising.

Y/N chuckled, forcing herself to look away from his eyes, determined not to get caught out staring. It was just... it was rare to see Riff in a state of such - for lack of a better term - cleanliness. Y/N was used to seeing her friend covered in paint or dust from his scuffles with both his fellow Jets and the Sharks.

And the jacket he was wearing this evening didn't have a single hole ripped into it. A shocking feat, if you were to ask Y/N.

Basically, what she was trying to say was that Riff cleaned up well. And Y/N wasn't really sure how to respond to that.

"I don't have a partner," Y/N denied, pretending to find something particularly interesting about the wood patterning of the gym floor, tracing the lines with the toe of her shoe. Anything to avoid the disbelieving look Riff was directing towards her.

"That's a load of horseshit," Riff finally burst out with a scoff. Y/N risked a glance at his blue eyes just in time to watch him roll them yet again. "I'm right here, girly girl. Aren't I?"

And... yes. Y/N supposed Riff was right there. For almost a month now she and her childhood friend had been skirting the borders between friendship and... something more. Stemming from a night of too much stolen beer, where they had ended up stealing away from the Jets - not overly secretively, if their whoops and hollers were anything to go by at the time - and Riff had pressed her up against a wall in an alleyway and-

Well... Y/N could feel the heat crawling up her neck at the memory and she suppressed a shiver.

Since then, things had changed between them. Riff would walk her home from work more often, he'd pull her onto his lap when they were talking, he'd wind an arm around her waist if he thought she was getting a little too comfortable with any of the other Jets.

A couple more stolen kisses here and there, too. But Riff hadn't said anything. Hadn't done anything to indicate that he actually wanted something more than... the casual-more-than-friendship thing that they had going on.

At least, that had been true up until he had started harassing her about coming to the dance. And if the intense look he was giving her was anything to go by, Y/N was getting the feeling that had been Riff trying to make it.. something official.

Though, Y/N had apparently taken too long to formulate a response to Riff's blatant invite. Because the leader was clearing his throat, pushing himself more upright and it was he avoiding her eyes now. Y/N could have sworn she saw a dusting of pink across his cheeks.

"Or - I mean I'm sure any of the Jets would dance with you if you asked. No need to have one partner."

Riff went as though to move away, but Y/N reached out to catch her fingers in his sleeve before he could get too far.

"I didn't mean it like that," she whispered. Riff cocked his head to the side, questioning. "I do want to dance with you, Jet Boy. I promise. It's just... I don't really know how to dance?" She offered, forcing herself to meet Riff's eyes.

A slow smirk made its way across his face, his eyes crinkling at the edges as he showed his amusement. And then Riff plucked the cup out of her hand, placing it on a nearby table and presenting Y/N with his hand in a dramatic flourish that had Y/N grinning.

"It's never too late to learn, girly girl."

Riff: despite Riff being a part of the jets and being in a gang and shit, he knows how to treat women. Like when he's with a girl (or guy, lookin at you Tony) he will go all out to surprise her and treat her like the absolute queen she (or king, looking at you tony) is. He also is the kind of person who is scared to love at first because of all he's lost, but once he falls in love he falls down like 85 flights of stairs metaphorically for them. I also think he like just really likes donuts. No explanation for that. He just gives me a donut-lover kind of vibe.

Tony: Tony is a hopeless romantic. He lies awake at night wondering what it's like to fall in love until he does. He has all these little fantasies planned out, he dreams about his wedding, etc. He sees an old couple walking together on the street and pictures them as him and his future spouse.

Graziella: Graziella is the kind of person who's nice until she's not. She'll be the sweetest girl ever one minute, offering you a drink, giving up her seat on the train for an old lady, but the minute you mess with her loved ones, she'll fuck you up. She will literslly not hold back like your ass will be cooked and locked in a basement or some shit (you best know she knows how to hide a dead body) and then she'll help the authorities look for your body. She is also the kind of person who has a major rbf but is actually nice when you meet them.

Baby John: baby John may seem more innocent and like a kid on the outside, but in the reality he's just as valuable to the gang as anyone else. He can fit in small spaces, he's sneaky, etc. So the jets use him to pull pranks on the Sharks and shit. He also likes to steal small thinks like candy bars off those street stands.

Balkan: alright so yall know how when Gee Officer Krupke starts and Balkan is like "I want no part in this," but eventually gives in? He's an ambivert. He'll go out with his friends if they invite him, but his ideal Friday night might vary between partying hard with strangers or just sitting alone but not lonely at home maybe with a newspaper to read. Also hwar me out Balkan has an astigmatism but is insecure about wearing the glasses, but at night when he can barely see because of the street lights, he'll take out the old pair he got from Valentina.

REWATCHING WSS 1961 ----- - Bernardo has converse, thats so silly!! of him - you can tell which territory you are because it says so like when they were in the Sharks territory, it says Sharks on the street, or look around the background and you can see spanish on the shop, thats so awesome - theres a heart with Bernardo + Anita inside of it and im going to SCREAM.

I WAS GIVEN PERMISSION TO YAP SO YAP I SHALL costume analysis for WSS 2021 guys I love this stuff you don't understand. Also this post is LONG so strap in. Also spoilers so if you haven't watched the movie go do that.

Okay okay so first thing I want to point out is the very obvious color schemes that go into the Sharks and the Jets throughout the movie. Jets are blues and greens and cool colors, Sharks are reds and yellows and warm tones. This is important.

For the purpose of this analysis I'm going to focus the most on Maria and Tony, and one of my absolute favorite things that I'm going to start off with is the dance scene. Oh my god. So in the gym dance, the colors between the gangs are extremely apparent, like in this image here

The very obvious color divide. Jets in cool tones, Sharks in warm tones. The only outliers? Maria and Tony.

As you can see here, the costume designers put Maria in white and Tony in black, to show they they're outliers to the gangs, however, Maria has a red belt and Tony has a blue tie, which ties them into their respective groups. Genius.

Also later, when Tony finds Maria on the fire escape, he takes off his tie, meaning in that moment there is no more blue in his costume. Am I overanalyzing? Maybe. Do I think they did this because it signifies that in that moment Tony feels no connection to the Jets and has eyes only for Maria, but Maria still has her red belt because she is hesitant to leave her connection with the Sharks? Yes. Yes I do.

The next costume set I want to bring up is the church scene costumes which are best pictured in this little movie poster

This right here is genius costuming, and in this picture you can also see how they work the juxtaposition to the other characters. At this point I'm the film, Tony and Maria haven't really given up their respective groups, so they still have their colors built into their outfits, however, you can see that compared to the other characters their costumes are much more muted because they are slowly drifting away from their original groups. Again, these designers are genius.

Now I'm going to be focusing on Maria specifically, because at this point in the movie she is head over heels for Tony and there is nothing stopping her from running away with him. Then we get this costume for I Feel Pretty.

Look at this! This is the first time in the movie that we see Maria in a blue dress, the Jets' color. While in this dress, she sings I feel pretty about Tony, showing that she has lost connection with the Sharks, however, she is also wearing that coral apron over the dress, which is a warm tone. The apron covers the blue dress, just like she is covering up being in love with Tony by letting the girls believe that it's Chino she is in love with. Again, genius.

I can't find a good picture to go off of, however during the song Somewhere after Tony killed Bernardo and he and Maria are crying and making up they go back to neutral tones. Completely blank slate.

Lastly, we have this dress

This is what Maria wears when she decides that she is going to run away with Tony. A dark blue dress. No accents, just the dark blue. I also think it's really interesting because dark blue in color symbolism usually means sadness, and we know how the movie ends. I also think it's really interesting how in the end Maria has come completely to Tony's side by wearing entirely blue whereas Tony (I can't find a good picture so don't be mad if I'm off) is wearing muted colors again.

So that's my character analysis based off of costumes. These designers are absolutely amazing and so meticulous to the point where people don't even realize that the costumes add to the character development but they register it anyway. All of those people deserve so many awards they are an amazing costume team.

this contest was filled with amazing adaptations (since i'm pinning this to replace the bracket, here's the bracket), and i think more than which one won, the important thing this tournament did was bring different adaptations to the attention of more people! a lot of them lost because they were more niche, but the niche ones are often the best and i'll do a little writeup of all the contestants after or during this poll :) that said . wss and ragad propaganda

Continued playing Brothership and I screamed. In one of the battles Mario got knocked out and Luigi screamed, 'Mario' before running over to him, picking him up and fought with one hammer when it was the enemy's turn to attack. As always my mother wss watching play and she too loudly was like, 'Awwww.' It was just so cute!!! I heard that the same thing happens in Superstar Saga where the bros defend each other if the other gets knocked out. I am so glad this also happens in Brothership!! 🥹❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚

I was also on that desert island, I think it was called, Allsand Island, with those level 40 shark enemies. So, by this point of the game, even if you have fought every single baddie that appears in the game like me, you'll still only be like level 20-21. So, one successful hit from those sharks and it's instant KO. Well, I wasn't about to get a gameover and wondered if the game would let me flee even with one bro knocked out (in this case Luigi). I chose to flee and yep, Mario quickly grabbed Luigi, swung him over his shoulder and ran. And ofc, this is me, and I'm just here like too cute!!!

Now, I need to see both these scenarios with Mario and Luigi just to see the animation. Though, I don't want to force a KO. Lol. Maybe after I pass the story I'll make it happen.

I know I've been wanting to see what happens if you fail the timing with jump attacks and such. Though, I did somehow mess up once with Mario's jump and it was so funny to see him flail sideways at the enemy 😅

Anyways, truly any M&L games is a gift soley for the interactions between the bros! Granted Brothership is the only M&L game I have played and haven't really seen gameplays or spoilers story wise for the other games, but as I thought, Brothership has not disappointed at all in the brotherly love department!! We truly are feasting so good!

I got asked to do Bernardo, Deisel, and Ice next for the wss headcanons so here's pt.2 @scottyzoomz

Bernardo: Bernardo is oberprotective because of who and what he's lost. I think he's had someone in his life he cared about deeply and he lost them, so now losing his loved ones is his biggest fear, leading him to do irrational things for those he loves. Also, he worships thr ground Anita walks on. He will never admit it but he is so in love with her it hurts him.

Anita: Anita would be a big women's rights advocate. She'd march in the streets for equal pay. She'd lead strikes, rebellions, uprisings, etc. Just for her and Maria to have the same rights as all the Sharks. She also doesn't want to have children (at least not yet) because of what she saw when she lived in Puerto Rico. She doesn't want kids she will have to starve. She is scared to have kids too.

Deisel: Deisel has a poker face like no other. He has a very expressive face so he's been told, and he uses that to his advantage to fool people when playing cards. Bro could go pro playing poker. Also I (and @eponine-thenadier) have a headcanon where he and Anybody's are siblings because in Gee Officer Krupke he says "my sister wears a mustache" and Anybodys is canonically transmasc.

Ice: ice got his name from almost dying of frostbite once. He was on a dock, and the rest of thr Jets went to go grab something, and he fell in. But it was the winter months, so the water was freezing, and he got hypothermia. Luckily the jets pulled him out in time and he earned the nickname Ice. Also Ice actually hates the cold despite his name. Like he truly hates it.
