I think something that gets lost in the discourse of whether Beren and Luthien were wrong for not giving the Silmaril to the Fëanorians is that Luthien was kidnapped and held captive by Celegorm and Curufin, whose end goal was forcing her to marry - and with how Tolkien's elf marriage=sex that would require sexual assault or coercion in the very least - and then tried to murder her fiancé. And to her knowledge, C+C were never reprimanded for it by the other brothers. The only public consequence they got from their own family was in the form of Celebrimbor leaving. I love the Fëanorians, I really do, but if I were in Luthien's shoes, I would tell the entire family (minus Celebrimbor) to get fucked. I would not be taking the moral high ground and handing over the Silmaril to the guys who imprisoned me and tried to kill my loved one for sake of property rights and family heirlooms. The expectation that she should is wild.

Hey gamers- so my ttrpg group consists pretty much entirely of online folk and with us thinking about running CAIN at some point I went hunting for a sheet template I could use on docs so my character would be easily shareable with my group. Couldn’t find one, ended up making one for myself, thought I’d share it in case that ends up being useful for other online only groups o7 !! The exorcist card and CAIN symbol are both direct out of the book, everything else is tables that you should be able to move around if you want stuff in different places. Notes: it’s definitely a desktop beast as mobile formatting breaks the layout pretty heavy, it’s readable but not very functional. Also please be nicies to me it’s my first time trying to make a sheet layout in docs ᓚᘏᗢ

Yesterday I was arguing for the creation a REAL sovereign wealth fund (SWF) to replace the “Micky Mouse” national wealth fund (NWF) created by Rachel Reeves and Keir Starmer.

90 countries from across the world have a SWF whereby governments set up a state-owned investment fund that invests in real and financial assets or in such enterprises as private equity funds or hedge funds. Any profits or income generated from these investments go toward the country’s economy and its citizens.

Britain does not have a SWF. Instead we give money to private enterprise, often in the form of tax breaks, in the hope they will provide jobs or tax revenue for the British economy.  This tax revenue may or may not be greater than payments made to business and industry by the British taxpayer. This is absolute madness!

Lets take the Rosebank gas and oil field as an example of this crazy situation.

In 2024 the Norwegian state-owned Equinor company made global pre-tax profits of £24billion. The year prior to this, Equinor was given a £400million tax break by the British government.

“The Norwegian state-owned oil giant behind controversial Rosebank plans has secured £400 million from a little-known tax break from the Treasury, new analysis has revealed.” (The Scotsman: 24/1024)

According to Equinor’s own  2024 Tax Contribution Report they only paid the British government $4million in taxes on their “extractive activities”.

$4million equals just over £3million, so we, the British taxpayer, gave Equinor, the Norwegian state-owned company, £400 million in tax exemptions while they paid us a mere £3 million. I think even a 6 year old could tell that was not a good deal!

Despite this Kemi Badenoch has no intension of creating a UK SWF, preferring instead to let foreign state-owned companies invest in Britain while at the same time advocating such funds are not taxed.

“UK drops plan to tax sovereign wealth funds The FT said business and trade minister Kemi Badenoch had urged the Treasury to drop the proposals out of concern that sovereign funds might pull out of projects in Britain.”  (zawya.com: 17/03/23)

The Labour government in the meantime has created a national wealth fund that is neither fowl nor beast. It is there to encourage private investment. When you visit the National Wealth Fund web site the first heading you see is “Private sector finance” and when you click on that link you find a set of operating principles, the forth of which is:

“Investment Principle 4: The investment is expected to crowd in significant private capital over time.” 

No hint of the British taxpayer owning shares, property assets, mineral rights or anything else that generates a profit for the taxpayer. Reeve’s NWF is just a disguise for maintaining the Tory policy of subsidising business and industry at the expense of the British taxpayer.

While other countries from around the world invest their taxpayer’s money in profitable business enterprises, we continue to give our tax revenues away, regarding them as a necessary cost for "growth". This strategy clearly hasn’t worked. Our governments need to rethink.

The payment of taxpayers money to private businesses and industries should be viewed not as a cost but as an investment, an investment that expects a return for its money. 

Margaret Thatcher is often quoted as saying: "We are all capitalist's now" . Let's make that true.

Let’s say that Ephemera passes MD down through his family—four generations after him as Nomura mentions, til we get to present day missing link. He gives the specific instruction that it must be returned to Brain whenever he’s destined to arrive in Scala in the future (which might be mentioned in the Book of Prophecies). At the end of khux, Ephemera said he still considers MD belonging to Brain, so he wants to return it to its original owner.

But by the time missing link takes place, and Brain appears, what if the current wielder of MD (aka one of Ephemera’s descendants) refuses to return it, firmly believing that it’s their right to wield it rather than Brain.

This causes a stir within the family, as certain members would find this to be selfish, unreasonable, and going against Ephemera’s wishes. Along with just being dishonourable to Brain, assuming they respect him. Meanwhile, other members of the family end up agreeing with this wielder, believing that MD should stay in the family.

I can see this drama getting so out of hand that it spreads to Scala’s wider community, causing the wielder to go into hiding with MD, and leading to a widespread manhunt alongside other various conflicts. Maybe the game is about finding a missing link to the past in the form of MD, assuming that the titular “missing link” could be a physical item and not just a metaphorical or symbolic thing. As far as I know, MD and No Name are also the only keyblades to have chain-related abilities? Just as an added layer

Brain’s whole role in this is up in the air. I’m going to assume that he’d want to get MD back because of it being Ephemera’s wish (and he will get it back eventually, so it can be passed down to Eraqus), but I can see him getting exhausted by all the drama caused by it. Either way, he feels a sense of responsibility to try and fix everything that goes down

I just watched that s7 episode where Rose, Dorothy and Sophia will have to move out if Blanche doesn't make them co-owners of the house and oh.... oh my god. I knew Blanche's grand gesture would hit hard, but Dorothy's talk to Rose before then?? Giving her an excuse for why she has to say, only to shrug that off and softly tell her the truth ("we love you") and proceeding to tell the permit guy that they're family!! They love each other so much & they can't be separated!! Rose's face throughout the whole thing!! It's so much
