something about vi never wanting anyone in her life to change. something about jayce not caring at all how much viktor has changed so long as he's alive. something about the way vi associates radical change with death, perceiving jinx's continued existence as a kind of necromantic horror—the way jayce would shatter fundamental laws of nature without a second thought in order to give viktor the best chance at survival, in whatever form that may take. transformation as rebirth vs murder, hextech vs shimmer. nature has made us intolerant to change, but fortunately, we have the capacity to change our nature. and then jayce, realizing that he hasn't changed at all, not really—that he is a scientist at heart, and he shouldn't have tried to be anything else. and then vi, realizing she has become someone unrecognizable—never thought my sister would turn bluebelly. and for both of them, it's too little, too late.

now that the ithaca saga is out i'd like to just put it out there that, in the original text, after they reunite odysseus and penelope immediately run off to fuck - obviously (20 years at sea away from your wife call that the wettest dry spell mankind's ever seen). BUT while they're getting all hot and heavy, athena decides to put her owl motif to good use and wingman for odysseus by quite literally holding off the dawn until they're fully satisfied (od. 23.345-248). which is just. what a way to end off one of the greatest pieces of storytelling in human history

I just love how Tolkien averted the “jealous brother/brotherly rivals” stereotype with Boromir and Faramir.

Denethor has major “parental preference” issues - he has never made any effort to hide the fact that Boromir is his favorite and he thinks Faramir is mediocre by comparison.

But Faramir never resents Boromir for this, nor does Boromir ever look down on Faramir because of his dad’s views. They unconditionally love and support each other, and know each other’s true worth. Faramir is very aware of Boromir’s shortcomings and is quick to understand his struggle with the Ring, but it doesn���t make him love Boromir any less. And for all his worship of his father, Boromir never agrees with his viewpoint on Faramir and instead sees Faramir’s real value and makes sure to always let him know it.

It’s really beautiful.

not a fan of how the writers took a character who’s about duality and change and growth, and decided that instead of resolving her inner conflict and letting her find compromise, balance, and a way to move forward, she should just throw it all out and restart. break the guns, cut off the hair, leave the cities, leave the loved ones, resign everything that’s damaged to being unfixable and just fuck off to the next show.
