Emery Ender - Transformation Concept Art
Tumblr media
So back in this post I mentioned that I'm interested in exploring some of the Shapeling Arts stuff with Emery, and listed a few examples of how Emery might (ideally temporarily) alter their appearance in a more monstrous direction. I wanted to do some sketches to show what I meant, but I was literally in a car's passenger seat at the time and was busy with work for the next few days. So only now am I finally able to show some physical examples.
Note, I haven't been able to figure out how to even start this skill/subplot yet, so I'm not entirely sure what the limits with Shapeling Arts are. Based off the art I've seen, it seems like it does have to pull from pre-existing body parts, which I kept in mind when drawing most of this. That said, aside from borderline starved man shenanigans, I can also see Emery getting these features from things like parabola (if ya know, ya know) or just as the eventual result of his destiny, as I alluded to over on the left.
Oh and speaking of which-! Yeah, that's what Emery looked like before I started using her for Fallen London, back when she was for a DnD homebrew. I mean technically she looked like this, but that's neither here nor there.

You can see why Emery has that one mask now lmfao. I had to ditch the tail though which is a shame. Honestly realistically, if Emery gave himself one permanent feature from Shapeling Arts, it would be the tail. I miss the tail.
Anyway thank you for your time, hope my collage here makes sense.

So, can someone who knows the Rubbery lore, clarify to me: do Shapeling Arts always require use of molten Amber? Rubberies use it to transform bones into... other bones, but weirder, and we used vats with heated amber to transform volunteers during the Horticultural Invasion. However, I fail to see any mention of Amber use in Godfall pilgrimages and Moulin expeditions where PC can make some drastic changes to the body seemingly on a whim — like rubberizing the spine and limbs to go through a gravity anomaly or growing flesh over the eyes to ward off hordes of Sorrow-Spiders (and, presumably, returning that flesh back where it belongs afterwards)

in a fascinating bit of accidental gameplay and story integration the scoundrel routinely sucks absolute balls at mithridacy checks. like every single time they run into one it's a fight for their life against a 40% basic check to lie effectively. they're so comically bad at it. and yes admittedly this is very much because i still haven't actually trained the skill properly but also at this point i think them sucking is kind of a feature?

heya! i saw that submissions for the next neathy fashions were open!
I may participate, so I'd like to know what's the deadline for submitting the designs (i couldn't seem to find the date ^^')
and also, do the models have to be human?
i saw the pages with an adorable bat, and i wanted to know if a Rubbery was permitted too :>
Hi there! the deadline is bolded in the second paragraph of the info description after the flavour text!
it's going to be open until at least the end of June, with deciding on if things need an extension when we get there [and how much I want to risk overlapping with artfight, ha!]
non human characters are very much allowed! This is the neath after all! Rubberies included!
the only caveat is to be mindfull of the no explicit body horror rule [ie. regular rubbery stuff is fine, but id prefer to keep away from things depicting melting-esque 'flesh' like the Slobgollion ES art, big not a personal fan of that one ;;]

Ok I'm making this a different post than the disability month one so I can ramble because I don't think most players (and Failbetter tbh) appreciate how much kataleptic toxicology would fuck up your digestive system With A Vengeance. Like, if you're ingesting poisons on a regular basis that's wreaking havoc on your liver and kidneys of course, but I'd imagine it'd also damage your intestines and stomach lining in the same way Celiac or an inflammatory bowel disease would.
A character who specializes in KT would (barring healing in Parabola or Shapeling Arts intervention) probably end up with nutrient absorption problems long-term, if not chronic pain and/or bleeding from inflammation and scarring. The only reason Hallowrove's been getting away with their level of routine poison-chugging is that their Rubbery friend who likes to homoerotically vivisect them sometimes (Scaleflats) just replaces or repairs whatever's damaged and shores up whatever needs to work more efficiently. I am holding an invisible gun on this guy 24/7 and that gun is labeled Consequences Of Your Actions and the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger (other than not wanting to project even more than I already am lol) is this squid.

also Alex is still like. vaguely nonbinary but in a way where he is not. fully aware of the concept.
he first start presenting as a guy back on the surface and just kinda. stuck with it. he knows he's not a girl and he feels comfortable as he is and never put much thought into it otherwise
but if you asked him if he's a man he'd probably shrug if you were a friend, and eye you sucpiciously otherwise.
he's just vibing

Petal and Adore art!! Gotta love the unhinged alien girls XD
Honestly, I do think that if they ever meet in canon they would be an unstoppable duo and while that would make life hell for thr main characters, it would be a really interesting route to explore. Hmmm i might be thinking about it more.

are louise or the scoundrel going to do the bottom surgery here
the "proper" answer is probably louise because she's way better at shapeling arts no matter how much the scoundrel tries to compete on that front but the prospect of the scoundrel doing literally anyone's bottom surgery is so fucking funny to me. i do not think she should be granted that power. she should not be trusted to construct a human anything
