Question for mandarin learners (feel free to comment on this or reblog and add): what accents can you hear to some degree?

When I started learning, I was watching Guardian and The Untamed (then soon after - The Lost Tomb), and History 3 Trapped and Bromance. I noticed the 儿 in Zhao Yunlan and Pangzi's speaking, and I later noticed in the taiwan dramas I was watching that there was like a lighter shi/chi/zhi sound almost like s/c/z? Or like the -hi sound part was less hard. Later I watched a few shows set in Shanghai, mostly 1920-1930s period stuff, and I noticed sort of what I noticed in taiwan shows? It was like some shi/chi/zhi and c z s sounds were more like a "ts" sound. Now they were period pieces so it could have been more a situation of just whoever got hired for doing the voice dubbing, not necessarily actually the accent of the place the show uses for a setting. Then also, there was a show I liked called Two Souls in One (cdrama), and I think the lead actress was doing a standard accent or beijing accent, but the 2 leading men both pronounced things more like taiwan. Zhi more like zi, and shi sounded more like si.

Just had a silly thought for how Kiseki: Dear to Me could fit in Tang Yi and Shao Fei from history 3: Trapped among its many bl cameos. Currently Kiseki is in flashbacks to the past set in 2019. Trapped came out in 2019, so if we assume that corresponds to the timing in show then Tang Yi, Zong Yi, and Ai Di are all in prison at the same time. I'm just saying reformed gangster Tang Yi as a protector/post-prison benefactor to falsely accused Zong Yi could totally work.

His backstory is horrific at times and

comes out slowly in his writings. We do

know that he was terribly abused at a

young age. His father tried killing him

multiple times. His mother doted on him.

His parents eventually separating, the

patient going to live with his maternal

grandparents as safety precautions from

his father. The safety was not so safe. We

don't know the details as somethings do

come out in his supervised writing

sessions with the nurses. And one

particular Doctor. It has been written that

an uncle was into necrophilia, pedophilia

and taxidermy. His uncle was a mortician.

The patient tried killing himself at ten,

thirteen and fifteen, only to be stopped by

an unknown source. Moving out of his

grandparents home at seventeen he

joined a gang. After that not much is

known. He just stares and smiles when

asked. He may look soft and harmless,

but we have seen otherwise. To tease

him, touch him or to talk too much to him

is not advisable.

The patient did experienced a love

once, at least he thought it was genuine,

sadly it was not. He is no longer a believer

in the emotion called love. He believes

people only use others to make them-

selves happy. He can do that all on his

own accord, if he so chooses. He does

not speak of the love, but there have been

his writings about it.

i could just make this entire list scenes from Be My Favorite, to be honest. Pisaeng and Kawi are so, so fucking soft, but this is one of my absolute favorite moments. you just know Pisaeng's heart was crawling up his throat.

HISTORY 3: TRAPPED | TANG YI x MENG SHAOFEI

your former enemy now lover, one of if not THE most powerful man in Taipei, stopping in the middle of heated kissing to kneel at your feet and reverently press a kiss to the wound you received while protecting his sister? FUCK. i didn't consider this one of my favorite BLs but i literally can't get this scene or them out of my head, so i might be wrong about that.

GAWD. what the FUCK man. i feel like crying just briefly rewatching that scene alone, it's such a gentle reprieve from everything going on in their lives, an impossibly soft moment captured between them. and seeing White so playful in love? AUGH.

i could also fill all 5 of these just with Moonlight Chicken moments but i wanted to include a moment that wasn't necessarily between a couple. i love this moment of family and peace at the end of everything, the way everyone comes together and things are different but that's okay. there's so much i always want to say about MC but i feel so much for it i can't ever really properly put it into words (shocking from me, i know.) this show is just so special to me.

2. the shower scene from ossan's love still lives in my mind rent free, whenever i remember "i know you like big boobs, but won't a big dick work too" i lose it. thank you maki for this iconic quote

3. lou already mentioned the iconic "i'll make you my wife scene" from sotus so i had to think of another one. i really like the scene where arthit is running in the rain. it was an important moment that established to the first years that he was a person willing to take responsibility and that he never gave any punishment he wasn't willing to do himself. i also love the way his friends knew he had to do this so they didn't stop him but they were all waiting for him and encouraging him at the finish line

4. i love the scene where tang yi just kisses shaofei in front of the entire police squad. he was like "i need to tell him i like him too right fucking now and nothing will stop me"

5. i have many issues with pickrome's storyline, especially in puppy honey 2, but i gotta admit pick punching din in the face and saying "and this is for hugging rome" is swoon worthy. rome's little smile as he does this makes it even better

doing just 5 because most of the shows i've watched came after 2020 as i was a bit late to watching bls. i guess there's bl anime which i did watch but i think i would have struggled trying to remember specific scenes
