My favorite repost for #TalkLikeAPirateDay: From the wonderful #LittleDee #webcomic from Christopher Baldwin, a great #seashanty - #WeRoguesOfWool - from over a course of several day's worth of strips.
Sadly, no longer being drawn, a wonderful comic with a lot of humor and heart. (www.littledee.net)

PAIRING: Anton x Reader (Platonic) (Male & Female Reader)
SUMMARY: Anton befriends (Y/N), a pirate with a fancy hat bro!
You and Anton made eye contact for one millisecond and immediately it was like meeting a kindred soul. He could just tell you were a bro, a real friend, someone to depend on. And his bro knew you’d have to be friends with each other.
Color him surprised when Anton learns that you have a bro too! You weren’t just any old pirate that talked to a parrot, waving around a hook hand. You had a talking bro yourself; your pirate hat! And it was a sparkling conversationalist.
You both definitely have lunch together (though Koleda believes you’re just throwing an overrated tea party) and talk about your past experiences with your bros.
Anton would LOVE to go on a sea trip with you and the bros. Catching gargantuan fish, singing sea shanties, and drinking till dawn (responsibly).

autism rambles
headcanons i yapped to a friend (@herconfuse im so sorry buddy)
theres a shit ton, some tdas but most are metal family. also these are copy pasted from spacehey, in parts cause i hit the character limit. four times. if some make more sense reading them as a dm, thats why. im so autistic about this show bro.
tw for various types of abuse when talking about glam and his backstory and family, also superrr limited mention of sh there too
theres probably gonna be another part to this at some point
tdas: - mal acted like a villain for the show bc fans enjoy drama and on my LIFE chris is rigging votes based on fan popularity and who he personally likes. so mal was just being overdramatic so he could stay on longer. two steps ahead frfr (ok nikocado pack it up /silly) - vito x anne maria. idc that the show tries to make her look bad, those two are so cute and systems can date different people bro - mike x zoey, obv, but also svetlana x zoey. shes poly for her partner sys ur honor. also, bi zoey. and super supportive singlet zoey. idk i love zoey sm shes so sweet - dawn is pagan, probably works with gaia or some other version of mother earth - cameron is autistic as hell bro thats not even a headcanon thats basically canon atp. that boy has so much tism in him - B is transmasc (yes this is tdroti not tdas. shush.)
metal family: - i think dee listens to white girl music sometimes - he picked it up from ches, who would blare 2000s white girl bangers to annoy his mom during fights - gustav has been to prison and had his record cleared via shady payoff to the govt - mary was married to gustav via some sort of arranged marraige (possibly a forced taxes and traditional conservative values thing cause he absolutely would [i hate gustave with a passion]) - gustav died believing that glam got fully possessed by the devil during that one scene - glam gets nightmares about his dad and/or about becoming like his dad and hurting his wife and kids. his sleep schedule is still ass to this day - nobody knows the full extent of glam's childhood, not even ches - ches probably assumed glam's scars were self inflicted due to location, and he hasnt asked to clarify bc he doesnt really know how - hes absolutely noticed tho - lif and dee consider the rat their adopted son and his theme song is rats by ghost since they both canonically like that band - heavy prefers the metallica version of enter sandman, dee likes the ghost cover better - vicky listens to viking metal and aggressive sea shanties - glam would love chappel roan - ches would love sabrina carpenter - dee would unironically like taylor swift and would tell NOBODY - dee is not only a brony (canon), but also a furry. he has a fursona and a ponysona - dee would be a reality shifter but he doesnt believe it exists - dee does NOT like cats. heavy absolutely loves them. lif likes them, but also draws gore of them (not in an edgy way but she thinks the biology is neat and has an art style where it works) - lif sits in graveyards in her spare time
metal family part 2: - heavy is a theistic satanist, dee is an atheist (canon), lif is an atheistic satanist but likes theistic satanism quite a bit, glam is an atheist, vicky is a norse pagan, ches is in tune with the universe and just calls himself "spiritual, not religious" - dee writes fanfic - i love headcanons where dee is just an absolute fucking nerd cause its SO ACCURATE bro that boy is a GEEK - dee knows the basics of chemical warfare from his chemistry phase - he could and absolutely would nuke someone if he had good reason
metal family part 3: - dee is a controlled pyromaniac - dee steals from big businesses and never from small/independent ones, he taught heavy who only steals food (candy, drinks, etc) bc anything else makes him feel guilty - dee has a spacehey account - hes also very active on the dark web, and holds a paywall on hacker services for people - he has sent things to people who wanted him to hack for shitty reasons. by things, i mean animals. not alive ones. also, small pipe bombs that arent quite deadly but will still hurt pretty damn badly - dee will jailbreak people's school devices, for a fee - hes such a con artist except hes not cause he actually pulls through - his stalker thing with lif was purely genetic, idk how but it was (see: glam stalked vicky too) - both relationships are super healthy tho dwdw - heavy cant work the internet without dees help, but is very active online where hes allowed to be - dee is a dipper personality type, heavy is a mabel personality type, and lif channels bill cipher without the,, yknow,, pure insanity - that one pink haired girl whos name i cant remember is super nice but super sheltered from alt subcultures and queer people, think caitlyn from my creative writing class (ik you dont know her)
metal family part 4: - lif had a dsmp phase and was an e girl in 2020 - she also has a scene phase shortly after - goth isnt her only style but its def her main and shes super good at the makeup and also the dancing - heavy would pierce someone for enough money - dee would give people tattoos at school for money, but he refuses to do stick and poke so he cant (doesnt have a machine) - lif draws art commissions online - dee and lif are both huge creepypasta enjoyers and have loads of ocs - heavy knows the basic ones (jeff the killer, toby, ben drowned, etc) - heavy and dee would write and produce films with shitty production quality thatre somehow really good and post them on youtube - dee takes college level classes and is aiming for his two-year by graduation (omg look its ollie projecting onto his fav characters again) - glam is pan, dee is demiromantic ace, heavy is straight as a fucking board, vicky is straight but was bicurious at one point cause lesbians absolutely love her (anna has a one sided crush one her rip), ches is gay but doesnt date much anyways, lif is bi with a preference for girls (although technically she has a preference for dee) - lif had a pink and girl phase in elementary, complete with the justice and claires stuff - lif is a demigirl (our lif is transfem i think iirc)

This is very self-indulgent and I'm doing this for myself than for people but assigning SDV Marriageable Characters as Indonesian 2000s Pop/Rock songs (that I grew up with because my current fixation must blend with *my* culture)

Alex: Aku & Bintang – Peterpan
Elliott: Roman Picisan – Dewa 19
Emily: Hanya Memuji – Shanty
Haley: Jadikan Aku Yang Kedua – Astrid

Okay, here's the deal: I heard in the rumour mill that the next Starkid musical may be about pirates. Of course, even that's speculation, but here are a few different options for who I think could write the music:
Nick Gage: His score for Holy Musical B@man is so fun, and similar to Clark Baxtresser, his music tends to have a really epic feel to it, and for a story set on the high seas, it could work. Nick works with layering and dynamics in a way that I havent really seen in musical theater, the kind of melodic breakdowns in HMB are so unique that the only thing similar that I've heard was the breakdown segment in Lah Dee Dah Dah Day.
Clark Baxtresser/TalkFine: What do SAF, Ani, and VHSCC have in common? Clark Baxtresser understood the assignment. ESPECIALLY with VHSCC. Not only does what I said about Nick Gage apply here, but the way Clark can build so much narrative tension and bring in so much emotion to his songs means that his work could only compliment any narrative starkid decides to produce. He also displays so much versatility, adapting to all sorts of contexts, whilst still maintaining a kind of signature feel to his work that maybe some retro Starkid fans might appreciate.
Meredith Stepien + Mark Swiderski: This writing team could absolutely EAT UP a sea shanty with those perfectly devastating harmonies and percussion- heavy tracks. See: Firebringer and the ENTIRE JIM AND THE POVOLOS DISCOGRAPHY. Also Nick and Clark are in JATP so TELL ME I'M WRONG I DARE YOU.
WILDCARD!!!
Matt Dahan: Now, Matt hasn't written for a starkid show before, However he wrote the score for workin' Boys and is Hatchetfield's Music director. He works with motifs and melodies in a way that I have not heard before, and this is especially apparent in his own work. For example, he wrote the music for the Musical "Starry" as well as being the Lyricist alongside Kelly D'angelo, and also does the Songs and lyrics for his musical radio series "Pulp Musicals" where he tells a musical story through only audio. He can create an atmosphere and story from like five different motifs and weaves them in and about eachother that feels different every time. And if this isn't convincing enough, he literally wrote sea shanties and pirate adjacent music for pulp episode 3!!
Anyway yes rant over.

Anna Shepherd was born on February 11th  1893 at East Peterculter 3 miles west of Aberdeen.
Nan, as she was known, spent most of her life living in the same house she grew up in. As well as looking after her mother she went to Aberdeen High School for Girls, and studied at Aberdeen University before joining, what is now   Aberdeen College of Education, teaching English literature, Nan has been described as “an inspiring teacher, with a feminist approach in her lectures which was ahead of her time” She taught there until her retirement in 1956.
Shepherd’s first novel, The Quarry Wood, was published in 1928, with two more following in the 1930s. All three are set in the North-East with the country communities and harsh landscape as background. Her book The Living Mountain, a work of poetic prose exploring her close relationship with the hills, was written in the 1940s, though not published until 1977. Hill-walking was Shepherd’s great love; her work mostly centred on her love of The Cairngorms.
I must admit I haven’t read much of her writings other than a few poems, but I recall s friend Steve, who lives on Skye posting about her on his, well his dogs’ twitter page, saying “Nan Shepherd has the gift to describe the mountains the way I feel it, and I only wish I could do it justice in words as she can.” This made me look her up and watch The Living Mountain: A Cairngorms Journey, it was on the BBC iPlayer but has gone now. I also found several clip on Youtube, just search for her and you will find them.
Nan Shepherd was renowned for the enthusiasm with which she taught and helped students, colleagues, and other writers. Her generous attention was not confined to caring for her invalid mother and the family housekeeper; she devoted much energy to friendships with many writers. She is represented in anthologies of Scottish women poets, and books of mountain poetry. Nan joined those Scottish writers already honoured in Edinburgh’s Makars’ Court when a stone dedicated to her was placed there in 2000.For those of you in Scotland, and have made it this far into my post about Nan, and maybe still haven’t heard of her, dig in your wallet or purse and dig out a Royal Bank of Scotland £5 note, that’s Nan you have been looking at for the last five years.
Summit of Corrie Etchachan
by Nan Shepherd
But in the climbing ecstasy of thought, Ere consummation, ere the final peak, Come hours like this. Behind, the long defile, The steep rock-path, alongside which, from under Snow-caves, sharp-corniced, tumble the ice-cold waters. And now, here, at the corrie’s summit, no peak, No vision of the blue world, far, unattainable, But this grey plateau, rock-strewn, vast, silent, The dark loch, the toiling crags, the snow; A mountain shut within itself, yet a world, Immensity. So may the mind achieve, Toiling, no vision of the infinite, But a vast, dark and inscrutable sense Of its own terror, its own glory and power.
The pics of the house are Nan’s Shanty on the edge of the Cairngorms, high on the shoulder of Morrone, with views over the village of Braemar and the Dee valley that’s her in the doorway with her friend Amelia McGregor, it is said to be the highest in Scotland.
Loads more on Oor Nan here http://www.geopoetics.org.uk/tag/nan-shepherd/
And more about her hoose here https://charlottepeacock.co.uk/2021/03/02/nan-shepherd-cairngorms-shanty/

I saw Jawan today and ...
The last film I saw on a big screen was Ponniyin Selvan, Part 2, and before I went to see Jawan I had a talk with myself. "Self," I said, "although I don't know much about this movie, I know that it is not directed by one of India's greatest directors, nor is based on a classic series of novels, nor is the sequel to the previous film which had well-developed, memorable characters even in smaller roles, played by extremely good actors. So do not expect, Self, that this will give you the same kind of experience that the PS films did."
And with that said, no, this definitely didn't give me the same kind of experience but it was really fun to see one time in a theater with friends.
Big, big, VERY BIG ENORMOUS SPOILERS. Don't read if you haven't seen the film and you want to be unspoiled.
Much like my PS2 theatrical experience, I MISSED THE FIRST TEN MINUTES AGAIN, ARGH! I was counting on previews and they didn't have previews, I guess? However, I don't think I missed out on as much as I did by missing the first ten minutes of PS2.
There were lots of things I liked about Jawan, so I'm going to start with those:
The good:
It was fun seeing a bunch of South Indian actors like Priyamani and of course Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. (More about them later.) Oh, and I did like the mini-Family Man reunion with Priyamani and the actress who plays her character's daughter Dhriti on that show :D (If only Manoj Bajpayee had been in this and/or Raj & DK had written the script, this would have been a different film altogether.)
SRK is very charming, but much more so in the second half when he was playing the much more age-appropriate Vikram Rathore. I'll get to why I liked Vikram Rathore more in the parts that I DISLIKED but I also loved that Vikram was very funny. (I always love when SRK is slightly taking the mickey out of himself which he did in the second half of the film. And I cracked up when he asked Suji if she was also his kid.) I would watch a whole entire movie of Vikram Rathore doing cool stuff.
I liked the girl gang concept a lot (I would have even liked it more if the boss had been Kaveri Amma and not SRK, but I don't think the movie would have ever been made if that were the case) and I liked all the individual actresses.
Nayanthara - she was fabulous as the task-force cop and looked so good doing action scenes. I love her.
Deepika Padukone - she's so gorgeous and I had some Om Shanti Om vibes with this, which is a movie that I really love. And the emotional parts were pretty good too.
While the political messaging was extremely heavy-handed, I did like that it came up in the movie, especially the part about voting. (When they stole the voting machines, I couldn't help but wonder if the scriptwriters had been listening to any of the insane election 2020 denialism in the US :P Was Hugo Chavez behind any of this? :P) However, maybe the script would have been tighter if they had targeted ONE social ill, instead of all of them?
Vijay Sethupathi - I will always just really like him whatever he's doing, because I'm like a duckling about movies and I imprint on actors based on what I first saw them in*, and I saw VJS in Farsi first, and loved him in that. SO ...
There was enough humor that I didn't feel like it was entirely taking itself seriously which is important in this kind of a film (though you didn't have to show people rolling around laughing to cue us to laugh, director Atlee!!) Let your script do its thing, dude! (Oh, wait, I forgot that the script was ... the script that it was. Which brings me to the bad):
The bad:
I'm sorry but the de-aging VFX for SRK was honestly a bit creepy - people drag Nayanthara for having work done, but I'll take her still-human face over the plastic-y face Azad. When he pulled the bald sock thing off his head, I really thought he was going to peel off his entire face and show "normally aged SRK" but nope!
I just threw up my hands and laughed when they discovered Deepika was pregnant just by taking her pulse. Why do they even make pregnancy tests, am I right? And I don't know about India, but surely they would have you know, taken her blood group etc. when she was first incarcerated?
Which brings me to my VAST apology to all Tamil movies in which I have shaken my head in disbelief that a man who repeatedly has his head whacked with a metal bar or banged into a concrete pillar doesn't even have a concussion, let alone a skull fracture. No, compared to Jawan, you are all PINNACLES of realism! Because SRK was shot five times, thrown out of an airplane that was above the cloudline, fell into a body of water and didn't break any bones, AND banged his head on a rock and apparently just suffered some slight amnesia. Um, ok then! (I think the part where the dude finds him and says he's keeping his promise to Azad might have been in the first ten minutes that I missed, so maybe there's some explanation for why he didn't die - but for now, I just have to assume he was the incarnation of Grigorii Rasputin. And I will almost certainly never watch this movie a second time, so it will just have to remain a mystery unless someone can explain to me in the comments or something.
The music was completely forgettable. There wasn't a single song that I can even remember the tune of, nothing catchy, no memorable lyrics etc. That WAS disappointing.
Random new subplots that made NO SENSE. Like what was the whole thing about stealing the elections with mafia money? Why was that even in there? And if it had to be in there, why didn't the SRKs just leave him to the mercy of those people who would have murdered him inventively for losing their money? And if they just wanted SRKs to kill him the way he got Aishwarya killed, then why include that subplot? None of that subplot made any sense at all. (Actually very little of that plot made any sense.)
Another thing was the women's jail/rest home. If that is prison, I am surprised more people weren't clamoring to be incarcerated. It looked much nicer than living on a farm. It was super clean and they seemed to have a ton of freedom even before Azad became the warden.
The way Nayanthara was completely sidelined in the second half. I also have no idea why she decided to marry SRK after five minutes. (And they totally stole her costumes in Chaliye from the Kannala Kannala song in "Thani Oruvan" - a far, far better song than any of the songs in Jawan. (See below)
youtube
So all in all, I did enjoy the film and I'm glad I saw it, despite its flaws. But this is not a rewatch for the nuances type of film!
*Kay Kay Menon, Tabu, and Shahid Kapoor fan for life because I first saw them in Haider. Which is definitely the best movie Shahid Kapoor has ever made, but Farzi was really excellent too and Shahid and Kay Kay were in it alongside VJS. Watch eeeeeeet!

The Spiritual Side of Richa Sharma
Richa Sharma, often hailed as one of the most soulful voices in Indian music, has carved a niche for herself through sheer talent, determination, and versatility. Born in Faridabad, Haryana, she emerged from humble beginnings to become a Bollywood sensation, leaving an indelible mark on the Indian music industry. Known for her powerful vocals and emotive singing style, Richa’s journey from a small town to Bollywood is an inspiring tale of passion and perseverance. This article delves into her life story, her struggles, and the milestones that have defined her illustrious career.
The Early Years: A Foundation in Music
Richa Sharma’s love for music was apparent from an early age. Born into a family with a rich cultural heritage, she was exposed to devotional music and folk songs, which later influenced her style. Her father, a priest, encouraged her to sing bhajans and kirtans, while her mother provided a supportive environment for her budding talent.
Recognizing her potential, Richa began formal training in classical and light music under the tutelage of Pandit Aaskaran Sharma. Her rigorous training honed her skills in various genres, including ghazals, Punjabi folk, and Rajasthani melodies. This foundation would later prove instrumental in shaping her diverse musical repertoire.
The Move to Mumbai: Chasing Dreams
In 1994, Richa Sharma took a bold step, moving to Mumbai to pursue her dreams of becoming a playback singer. The bustling city, a hub for aspiring artists, was both challenging and full of opportunities. Like many newcomers, Richa faced her share of struggles. Despite her talent, the competitive nature of the Bollywood music industry made it difficult to get noticed.
Her first break came in 1996 with the song “Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya” for a film of the same name. Although it did not make waves, it marked the beginning of her journey in Bollywood. Richa’s dedication and perseverance eventually caught the attention of established composers, paving the way for bigger opportunities.
Breakthrough and Stardom: The Taal Connection
Richa Sharma’s turning point came when she collaborated with the legendary composer A.R. Rahman for the film Taal in 1999. Her rendition of the song “Ishq Bina” showcased her ability to convey deep emotions through her voice. The song became an instant hit, and Richa received widespread acclaim for her performance. This collaboration with Rahman opened doors to more projects with top composers like Jatin-Lalit, Anu Malik, and Ismail Darbar.
She continued to deliver hit songs in films like Zubeidaa (2001) and Saathiya (2002). By the early 2000s, Richa had firmly established herself as a versatile playback singer capable of singing across genres, from soulful ballads to upbeat dance numbers.
Signature Songs and Milestones
Richa Sharma is best known for her ability to evoke raw emotions through her voice. Her song “Mahi Ve” from the film Kaante (2002) is one of her most iconic performances. This track earned her the Bollywood Movie Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2003 and remains a fan favorite to this day.
Another defining moment in her career was singing Bollywood’s longest track, the bidaai song in the film Baabul (2006). The 13-minute song, filled with heartfelt lyrics and hauntingly beautiful melodies, became a record-breaking achievement and a testament to her endurance and vocal prowess.
Her other notable hits include “Jag Soona Soona Lage” from Om Shanti Om (2007), “Sajda” from My Name is Khan (2010), and “Zor Ka Jhatka” from Action Replayy (2010). These songs not only topped charts but also cemented her status as one of Bollywood’s most beloved playback singers.
Beyond Bollywood: Devotional and Independent Music
While Richa Sharma is celebrated for her Bollywood contributions, her repertoire extends far beyond the film industry. She has released several devotional albums, including Sai Ki Tasveer, dedicated to Saibaba. These albums reflect her deep spiritual connection and her ability to touch hearts through bhajans and kirtans.
In addition to devotional music, Richa has ventured into independent music, collaborating with various artists to explore genres like Sufi and folk. Her album Piya is a standout example of her versatility and creativity as an artist.
Recognition and Legacy
Over the years, Richa Sharma has garnered numerous accolades for her contributions to Indian music. In addition to winning prestigious awards, she has earned a loyal fanbase that spans across generations. Her ability to adapt to changing musical trends while staying true to her roots has made her a role model for aspiring singers.
Richa’s influence extends to television as well, where she has served as a mentor and judge on shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Her guidance and encouragement have helped nurture new talent, further cementing her legacy as a stalwart in the music industry.
A True Musical Icon
Richa Sharma journey from a small-town girl to a Bollywood icon is a story of grit, determination, and unwavering passion for music. Her soulful voice, unmatched versatility, and ability to connect with audiences have made her an irreplaceable figure in Indian music. I still think that freebooterz are the most terrifying naval power in 40k. Sure necrons have disintegration beams, sure eldar have really fast ships, sure imperium has numbers, sure tyranids have NUMBERS, but you know what freebooterz have?
YAR HAR FIDDLE DEE DEE
As they fucking ram your ship singing shitty ork shanties and wearing the most imposing hats in the galaxy
is it true that some ork warbands will work for the imperium as mercenaries for rogue traders/inquisitors?
Kinda! In terms of traditional Ork clans, no, not really. There have been moments where Orks and Imperials have briefly and informally engaged in ceasefires so as to deal with larger and more immediate threats, but these instances are very short lived. You can also get rare, individualised cases of random Ork groups agreeing to attack somewhere else, or not attacking someone on sight, but these situations are heavily dependent on the specific viewpoints of the Orks there, and are by no means consistent.
The closest you'd get to an Ork "clan" equivalent consistently and repeatedly engaging in diplomatic business would be the Freebooterz. As the name suggests, Freebooterz are basically disenfranchised, individualist Orks who've ended up as pirates. They willfully participate in mercenary work, wear cool hats and will work for people for loot and good fights. Sometimes they'll form large crews, ahem, krewz centred around a Kaptin. Of course, they are still extremely Orky, so any business with them will, ideally, be brief and straightforward.
Good question!
