Posting some doodles to get out of my comfort zone

My insecurities always tell me that everything I post has to be perfect. The anatomy must be perfect, the lineart must be clean, the colors must be completely shaded and vibrant, and posting an unfinished sketch is a sin worse than murder. Only for me though, no one else. So I decided to just kinda rip the bandaid off and post some stuff I drew that wasn't intended to be posted online. Tumblr has been very comfy and safe for me, and I feel less anxious posting stuff on it, so maybe I won't regret this that much

My idea for what Shane was like when he first moved to the valley! headcanons / design explaination below.

CWS: death, selfharm, depression, suicidal ideation [stay safe]

his hair isn't too far off how i usually draw it [missing the shaved sides] because i think it'd be like a grown out buzzcut. After Jas' parent's die that's when he falls into depression and after only a few months he just buzzed it all off for easier matenance especially considering he now has to deal with Jas' kinkier hair and learn how to do that, he didn't have time for himself. After a couple months though, Marnie introduces him to Emily who starts cutting his hair every month or so, slowly making them friends.

i gave him really red and squinty eyes since while him being a stoner would be interesting i don't think he would for Jas' sake. I wanted to make him look just- so fucking tired and out of it and as if he very visably broke the fuck down 5 minutes before leaving the house and is practically snarling at anyone who gets to close incase they notice. another thing of note when it comes to his skin is the self harm scars, far from fresh but there, no longer caring enough to hide them, not from confidence but emptiness.

i didn't think too much on his clothes but in my head this is before he got a job at joja and i think that the tunnlers shirt would just cause a level of soreness since i think he and Jas' parents were presumbly gridball fans and rooting for the same team. i think it'd also draw more attention to him than he'd like. He's... okay with Jas getting attention, rumour spreads fast enough so people know not to ask and she deserves to be comfortable and cute, besides it's hard to find alternative baby rompers. If Shane wore the Tunnlers shirt then that gives people a leg up on one of his intrests and he can't risk making friends only to hurt them when he stops being around since he knows what that's like. I just gave him some vaguely punky clothes since that would at least scare off all the mother hens around town feeling sorry for him. His clothes don't fit as well anymore though, his shirt is riding up slightly exposing his tummy as a treat for me because since he stopped playing gridball and stopped taking care of himself he's started gaining weight.

As a final thing, he wears his friends' promise rings, they never had enough money or time to get married or even engaged for that matter before all that was left of them was their daughter, who seemed to always gravitate towards grabbing her parents' ring fingers, seeming to be intrigued by the texture difference. and while Shane knows logically thats all it was there's a part of him that wants her to have that constant, at least as a baby

Oh, nothing, just thinking about Talon being the only one that can withstand Drina's temper tantrums without any negative feelings toward her and Drina hating her for it and wanting her to stay at the same time, but she knows it's inevitable that Talon will walk away someday because how could Talon want to stay with someone so toxic so she lashes out more to hide the hurt which makes Talon more determined to stay. Don't you see they're a cycle of toxicity. Don't you see. Don't you see how the cycle could have never ended without the Bile, and now Talon can't reconcile her feelings about the Bile because how could it be bad when it fixed her relationship to Drina by dampening her cruelty, yet every time she looks in the mirror she's forced to face the fact that the Bile has punished her. Yet at the same time, she's very, very wrong, because the Bile didn't fix Drina, it made her worse. Drina's cycle was destined to continue, around and around again and again, until the day she died. Don't you see. Don't you see how Drina's death wasn't just a tragedy, but a triumph in its own way. Don't you see how Drina could never return to the girl she was before she summoned her spirit animal in life, so Talon would have to reassure herself that she'd at least be that innocent girl again in death.

also while we were questing darkmoor we got fed up FAST and id like to issue a formal apology to the two random people we were teamed up with for the upper halls because when we got to shane von shane the in chat discussion centered around how we would like to beat him with a baseball bat or put him in a pillow case and throw him at the wall until he stopped moving. this game is rated E for everyone

i've said it once and i'll say it again. it's FUCKED that shane and nikki get killed when they're locals!!!! they literally weren't even invited to the wedding!!! they were just trying to fucking help!!!

thinking about writing a little something in the original universe about abeke's adult life where she continues to deal with her grief over shane, who really did die in the burning tide. jumping around to different time periods: she's the new face of greencloak leadership, she's married (but her husband notably doesn't make an appearance), she has a daughter. her life is a dream. but with each of these milestones, she is reminded of shane. the person she might have had this life with if things had been different.

i don't usually like to delve into canon past the return because thinking about shane's death makes me feel sick to my stomach. but this is too good and beautiful and tragic of an idea to pass up.

Some use this as an excuse not to live. As a way to thumb their nose at the death they know is coming no matter what. As a reason they aren't responsible for anything they do or don't do.

I use it as a reason to live as fully as I want when I can and to demand better while I have the time. As a reason why no one fucking owns me and this life is mine. As a way to say "I'm here and I hate it, but let me make the best of it."
