I was hoping the cast of How to Dance in Ohio wouldn't be the kind of people who think they're better than other autistic people
but then I read an interview where the show's composer is saying several cast members asked him if any of the characters were meant to have autistic accents and he and the librettist were proud to say they did not.
so there goes that hope.
this made me curious to know what the cast members sound like, so I watched an interview and uh
...most of them have noticeable autistic accents lmao

Laughing At My Nightmare by Shane Burcaw
Tumblr media
Title of the novel: Laughing At My Nightmare
Author: Shane Burcaw
Genre/s: Non-fiction, Memoir, Diverse
Number of pages: 272
Lexile level or grade level suggestion: 1110L
Summary - Laughing At My Nightmare by Shane Burcaw, is a memoir written by Shane Burcaw himself about living with spinal muscular dystrophy, all the effects this disorder has had on his life, and how he maintained his humorous yet positive outlook on life.
"As my disorder has progressed, my mind has gotten even stronger. It's strange to think that the thing that makes my body so weak is the same thing that has given me my unbreakable spirit" (Burcaw, 2014, p. 3).
Genre is a memoir of the author, written by the author himself, and gives enlightening insight into how he lives with his disability.
Reading of the novel – I would read this whole group.
Teaching of the novel - I would also hold Socratic seminars with this book, with supported materials like ted talks or author interviews to hear more perspectives from people with disabilities.

love shane burcaw and his wife hannah’s YouTube channel squirmy and grubs. hate how so, so many ppl see a visibly physically disabled man and refuse to believe he could possibly have a beautiful, abled wife.
“obviously they MUST be pretending, he MUST be paying her, she’s GOTTA just be his maid or something…why would she WASTE her life caring for this man when she can have an abled one instead?? it doesn’t make sense 🤔” these ppl can’t believe he’s dated multiple other abled woman before this one, too
i find myself avoiding watching them because i know i’ll look at the comments, and i know i will see all of that and more being said, and it genuinely ruins my whole fuckin day. as a disabled person it makes me feel like i will never find a significant other, because why chose me when they can chose an abled person? i am just a burden. im not worth the effort. i am inherently unlovable.

Combining motivating advice from a book I’ve read (12 Rules - Jordan B Peterson) and the inspirational attitude and positivity of a blogger/YouTuber (Shane Burcaw) I have decided to blog about my own life.
Aspirations obstacles and outlooks. My life has had a mixture of all of these, I have a neuromuscular condition called Becker’s Muscular Dystrophy it has changed my life, my outlook and my aspirations over the years. I hope you will join me on this journey through the rollercoaster of life and if I can share any inspiration or motivation with you in the words of Shane “it will make me smile today”.

hannahayl: If the past two years of having a YouTube channel have taught me anything, it's that you're never going to be able to educate everyone. No matter what you do, some people will just never come around. Worrying about these people's opinions is a waste of time, and as time has gone on, it's become so much easier to have no internal reaction to comments like these. A few years ago, reading words like these was painful. For a while, I held on to the idea that once Shane and I were married, all the people doubting our relationship would realize it was real. Now, of course, I'm not that naive. Although it's taken time, I'm able to completley dismiss people like this. Shane and I continue to make content and share our story with the hopes of showing as many people as we can that disabled people are worthy partners. Comments like these only encourage us to continue! We're so grateful for all of the people that our story has managed to reach in a positive way.

The duo has been documenting their interabled relationship, on their YouTube channel Squirmy and Grubs, for four years before they finally got married on September 4 and shared…

Hey, I guess this new Twumblr is not into giving notifications on its messenger. Can you point me (and others) toward content you would like GIFs of for disabled FCs? And what size (width, height, file size) should they be? (I haven't made GIFs in a long time, okay.) I probably won't get to do anything until the weekend but one can dream that it'll be sooner.
Hey! Thank you so so much. There's a masterlist HERE of actors with roles listed and then thee are people with content available on youtube!
