We have just faced (and continue to face) the most traumatic, difficult and heartbreaking year since the Second World War. As we wish you and yours a Shana Tova, we hope and pray that our brave soldiers will be kept safe and that the innocent men, women and children who have been held hostage for almost a year will be returned safely to their families and friends. As with every challenge we have faced over the millennia (and there have been many), we will come through this, stronger than ever. Shana Tova.

תִּכָּתְבוּ וְתֵחָתְמוּ בְּסֵפֶר חַיִּים טובִים During the month of Elul, we bless each other with greetings and wishes for a good year. The Hebrew blessing is כְּתִיבָה וַחֲתִימָה טוֹבָה "K'tiva VeChatima Tovah," which means "A good writing and sealing." This prayer asks that we will be written and sealed in The Book of Life for a good and blessed year. AMEN חֹדֶשׁ אֱלוּל טוֹב וּמְבֹרָךְ לְכָל עַם יִשְׂרָאֵל Chodesh Elul Tov Blessings Amen אָמֵן

Rosh Hashanah: The Jewish New Year
Tumblr media
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is a deeply significant holiday celebrated by Jewish communities around the world. It marks the beginning of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, typically in September or October, and initiates the ten Days of Awe—a period of introspection, repentance, and prayer that concludes with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. While Rosh Hashanah is joyful, it is also a solemn occasion that emphasizes reflection on the past year and renewal for the year ahead.
The Meaning of Rosh Hashanah
The name "Rosh Hashanah" literally means "head of the year" in Hebrew, signifying the start of the Jewish New year. However, unlike secular New Year celebrations focused on parties and resolutions, Rosh Hashanah centers on spiritual reflection. It is seen as the anniversary of the creation of the world, specifically the creation of humanity, and is a time for individuals to evaluate their actions, seek forgiveness, and commit to self-improvement.
The holiday is grounded in the belief that on Rosh Hashanah Wishes , God opens the Book of Life and inscribes each person’s fate for the coming year. During the subsequent ten Days of Awe, culminating in Yom Kippur, individuals have the opportunity to repent and change this decree through sincere introspection, prayer, and acts of charity.
The Sound of the Shofar
One of the most iconic rituals of Rosh Hashanah is the blowing of the shofar, a ram’s horn, during synagogue services. The shofar is blown in a series of distinct blasts—Tekiah, Shevarim, and Teruah—each carrying deep symbolic meaning. Its sharp, piercing sound serves as a wake-up call, urging people to reflect on their lives and return to their highest potential.
The shofar has been used throughout Jewish history to mark important events, from the coronation of kings to religious observances. On Rosh Hashanah, its blasts signal a time of personal and communal reflection, calling individuals to examine their actions, seek forgiveness, and renew their commitment to spiritual growth.
Customs and Symbolic Foods
Rosh Hashanah is also a time for festive meals, filled with foods that symbolize the hope for a sweet and prosperous new year. The most well-known custom is the dipping of apples in honey, which represents the wish for a sweet year ahead. Other symbolic foods include pomegranates, whose many seeds signify the hope for an abundance of good deeds, and round challah bread, representing the cyclical nature of the year.
Tumblr media
Another meaningful tradition is Tashlich, a ceremony during which individuals gather near a flowing body of water and symbolically cast away their sins by throwing breadcrumbs or pebbles into the water. This act represents the desire to start the new year with a clean slate, free from the mistakes of the past.
Reflection, Repentance, and Renewal
At the heart of Rosh Hashanah is the concept of teshuvah, or repentance, which involves not only seeking forgiveness for past wrongdoings but also making a sincere commitment to change. This period of reflection encourages individuals to improve their relationships with others, seek reconciliation, and align their actions with their values.
Conclusion
Rosh Hashanah is a time of both celebration and contemplation. It offers a unique opportunity for personal growth and spiritual renewal, as individuals reflect on the past year and look forward to the year ahead with hope and optimism. Through the blowing of the shofar, the sharing of symbolic meals, and the acts of repentance, Rosh Hashanah calls each person to embrace the possibility of a fresh start and a better future.

Shana Tova!
In Hebrew, the word Shana means 'year' and Tova means 'good' while um'tukah means 'sweet'. So the greeting 'Shana Tova! ' literally means have a good, sweet year – the English language equivalent of 'Shana Tova um'tukah! ' would be 'Have a Happy and prosperous New Year!”.

📯 Discover the Shofar /sho-'far/ שׁוֹפָר - A Symbol of Rosh Hashanah 🍏🍯
The sounding of the Shofar is a sacred commandment, one of the 613 /meets-'vot/ מִצְווֹת in Judaism. It's an integral part of the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, also known as the "Day of Trumpeting" and "Remembrance of the Shofar Blast." 🌅🎺
The Significance:
The Shofar is a ram's horn that holds a special place in Jewish law, folklore, and thought. 🐏🎶
Biblical Origins:
The commandment to hear the Shofar is derived from the Torah, where Rosh Hashanah is referred to as a "day of blowing the horn" (Numbers 29:1). The Torah, however, doesn't specify how this should be done, leaving room for interpretation.
The Shofar's Multiple Symbolic Meanings:
1. Coronation of God: The Shofar symbolizes the coronation of God as the King of the universe.
2. A Call to Repentance: Its sound serves as a call to repentance and return to a righteous path.
3. Recollection of Mount Sinai: It's a reminder of the revelation at Mount Sinai when the sound of the Shofar accompanied the giving of the Ten Commandments.
4. Remembrance of the Prophets: The Shofar is likened to the sound of the prophets, symbolizing their messages.
5. Reflection on the Destruction of the Temple: It also evokes the memory of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem.
Whether you're hearing the Shofar for the first time or a seasoned observer, its powerful sound carries a deep message of reflection, renewal, and spiritual awakening.
May this Rosh Hashanah bring blessings and a sweet year ahead for all. 🌟🍏🍯

Happy and wonderful new year from SpaceIL association!
The past year was full of challenges, but there were also many exciting achievements in science education and space exploration.
We are proud to be part of an effort to make the field of science and space accessible to the next generation, stimulating curiosity and inspiring children, youth and adults alike.
Also this year we will continue to expose the youth to the work of the Israeli space industry, to the historical Genesis mission, and of course to the next mission that is at stake - Genesis 2
We want to take this opportunity to wish you a year of new discoveries, a year of curiosity and knowledge, a year of hope and joint action for a better future for all of us. And of course, a calmer and quieter year - a year in which everyone will return home in peace.
Happy and blessed new year!

He is invisible. He has no form. We must see past our image to be able to recognize Him. We are separated by darkness. Our physical form is our darkness. We are the sixth day. When we see ourselves, it is a new day because there is light. We see what hovered outside is actually inside. We are transforming into a new day. When all our work is done, we know. We know the difference between good and evil, so we can recognize our self. It is the seventh day. We are no longer oppressed by our physicality and can rest.
Just be. ✨️
