In the midst of all the blegh regarding Palestine, I do want to say this. If you think anything from the past century of Western media has any semblance of authentic Arab music, I urge you with the warmest of hearts and deepest of desire to go listen to actual Arab music. Nothing matches it and there’s so much variation.
Even in relation to the kinds of music present in Lebanon or Jordan or Palestine. Listen to Shamstep music, 47SOUL. Listen to Arab hiphop, DAM. Listen to Arab fucking Reggae, Autostrad. Listen to folk music, wedding music, dabke music. Please please please expand your pallet beyond the same duduk infested, arab bazaar, Shamar (Day) ass Orientalist slop.

Hip-Hop Meets Dabke: A Global Musical Revolution
Fusion of Hip-Hop and Dabke Music: A Vibrant and Evolving Genre
The merger of Hip-Hop and Dabke music marks a lively and dynamic genre, blending traditional Middle Eastern tunes with contemporary hip-hop and electronica sounds. This exotic fusion has garnered substantial popularity across the globe, especially among artists and fans in the Middle East, Canada, France, and the USA.
New Music and Genre Fusion
One fascinating dimension of this fusion is the advent of "Shamstep." The group 47SOUL epitomizes this genre blend. They meld hip-hop, electronica, and Middle Eastern melodies, crafting a novel sound that has quickly drawn a worldwide audience. This mix underlines the potential for intercultural musical innovation, motivating numerous other artists to delve into similar amalgamations.
Dabke, a traditional Levantine folk dance, is also being fused with hip-hop to forge a unique sound. Artists such as Khalifa Santo have experimented with this blend, as evidenced in tracks like "When Dabke Meets Hip Hop 2." This fusion entails inventive production techniques, integrating traditional dabke rhythms and melodies into hip-hop beats, often enhanced with electronic elements.
New Album and Single Releases
47SOUL's latest single "Dabke System" underscores their ongoing innovation in merging hip-hop and dabke. This track exemplifies the evolving nature of this genre blend and its escalating appeal. These new releases aren't confined to regional audiences but have garnered international recognition, showcasing a wider attraction for this distinctive sound. This global reach reflects that such genre-mixing music resonates with diverse listeners who value the intricate fusion of various cultural elements.
Best Practices and Advancements
An essential best practice in this realm is cultural exchange among artists from diverse backgrounds. Partnerships between Middle Eastern artists and those from Canada, France, and the USA can yield rich and varied musical creations. For instance, artists like Kha, who blend dabke with French trap and English rap, illustrate the potential of cross-cultural collaboration.
Successfully incorporating traditional dabke elements into modern hip-hop requires an in-depth understanding of both genres. This includes using traditional rhythms, melodies, and instruments in innovative ways. Artists can benefit from studying traditional dabke music and integrating its core elements into their hip-hop productions. This might involve using dabke-inspired drum patterns or sampling traditional dabke melodies. Employing electronic production techniques can notably enhance the sound of dabke-infused hip-hop, including using synthesizers, drum machines, and other electronic tools for a modern and dynamic sound.
By infusing dabke elements into hip-hop music, artists can diversify their sound and set themselves apart from more conventional hip-hop styles. This can attract a broader audience interested in unique and culturally rich music. For example, Kha's distinctive mixtape that merges dabke with French trap and English rap showcases musical versatility and creativity. Authenticity is vital when fusing different cultural elements. Ensuring that traditional components are respected and accurately depicted can build credibility and appreciation from both local and global audiences.
Collaborating with artists from different cultural backgrounds can introduce new perspectives and styles to your music. Featuring artists who specialize in dabke or other traditional Middle Eastern music can add depth and authenticity to your tracks.
Creating a distinct sound for Hip-Hop and Dabke music involves a mix of cultural exchange, innovative production techniques, and a profound respect for traditional elements. By understanding and integrating these aspects, artists can craft groundbreaking music that appeals to a diverse global audience.

5,6,18 for the song!
5: A song that needs to be played LOUD:
Glasshow by illion is a great theme song for dramatic entrances. That song can be interpreted as being about a deity, and it's you. Listen by turning volume all the way up before job interviews or big events. Commit to a powerwalk, listen close, and pretend every room you enter is your grand introduction as a new character in a movie, and you've arrived to wreck shop. It's a powertrip in audio form.
6: A song that makes you want to dance:
Go Bananas by Little Big is a wild song from a band that's always got fun music videos and feels like starting a time loop by stepping on a rubber chicken. It won this by a narrow margin (Intro to Shamstep by SOUL47 took a close second - it's an absolute bop by a Palestinian band that started their own genre.) Every time either of these start playing, regardless of if I'm cooking, working, or even scrolling, I end up dancing a lil' bit.
18: A song from the year you were born:
Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer is a song I honestly thought was p recent until this ask. Turns out it showed up pretty close to my birthday, and it feels like walking through a field of flowers.
