What’s a fic you’ve read more than once?

What haven’t I read more than once? I have 350+ open tabs and yet, here I am, re-reading @loftec’s None The Wiser. AGAIN. Because it makes me happy, and what is fandom about, if not making you happy? Honestly, I’ll tell you when we’re done with South Side Rules, as we’re rating every episode, but we’re also rating each season overall so… watch this space in 2025!

What’s a plot hole you wish had been answered or resolved?

Urgh. Don’t. Yikes… Yevgeny. Mandy. Fiona. Everyone else on Shameless who disappeared and then was never spoken of again. Like… what the heck? You don’t need to get the actors back. Just get the other characters to mention them, so I don’t feel like the writers forgot they existed! Also don’t give me Dichen Lichman and then just take her away!!! 😭

What scene or moment do you feel isn’t discussed enough?

Every time Mickey has to say the end of his sentence directly into Ian’s mouth because Ian can’t wait the extra 3 seconds to let him finish, he needs his lips on that boy’s mouth NOW! They’re so precious and horny and I love that for them!

What do you think is next for Ian and Mickey post-finale?

They’ll be deliriously happy forever and ever and nothing bad is ever going to happen to them. It’s terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and we always defeat them and save the day.

F1 AU // GALLAVICH

Ian Gallagher is a racing driver, a young star of the McLaren team. Mickey is just a car technician, who only recently joined the team as a trainee.

/long read backstory below/

Okay, I've thought about this a lot. So.. Shameless US but.. huh? living in UK?

First of all, because Formula 1 is more popular in Europe. Secondly, because I want to alter the story of Mickey's growing up. Make it a story about a little boy persevering towards his dreams. And how a simple childhood passion can grow into a potential job opportunity.

If briefly, below I talk about Mickey's developmental stages, along with his final emigration from Ukraine to the UK.

I'm not going into Ian's backstory here. But I'll mention this in more detail at the very end of the post, if you get to the end. Ha ha. Have fun reading!!

Mickey was six, just a little boy, when he first saw a F1 race on TV. And he was amazed by how quickly the cars could go and how quickly the mechanics performed at pit stops. (Are these even mechanics? Well, they turn the wheels, dad does the same thing in the garage and considers himself a mechanic).

When the next year he went to school in his first grade, then to all the teachers' questions or questionnaires with their “What do you want to be when you grow up?” he confidently answered as clearly as his childish language could, that he would definitely become a F1 mechanic. Even though he received only gentle smiles in reaction to his naivety of being a kid, the desire took root in his little head.

As he grew older, he continued to enjoy racing, watching every race weekend he could. And while he was a child this did not cause any particular problems. Mom encouraged him in his interests and every New Year gave him tiny branded cars of the teams he loved. But as he gets older, the more often he hears from dad that he is interested in some stupid things. And he didn't want to hear a word about racing at all. As soon as Mickey mentioned it even once, he was cut off mid-sentence.

These are not real cars.

Real mechanics work in a garage with real cars, not kids' toys for show.

Come down to earth. It’s all somewhere far away and you never even get to one of these races in your life.

Well, Mickey talks less about racing out loud anymore. Especially after mom's gone.

Tiny model cars disappeared into the closet's darkness.

His dad began to drag him into their garage more often so that he would get used to work and not wander around idle, lost in his stupid dreams. He had to skip live racing broadcasts as a result. It was sort of suicidal acts to turn this on in the garage on a small TV instead of some dumb music channel with hit songs. Mickey had learnt long ago to keep his mouth shut.

Just listen. Bring it. Grab it. Repair simple details. Don't go under the hood. Don't touch this, don't touch that. And especially don't break anything. Blah blah blah.

Jesus, are you even a man? Take your gentle hands away if you're not ready to get dirty.

Despite everything, Mickey still had a dream. One day, he hopes to watch a real-life race. Hear the noise of wheels flying over the track, the roar of engines, the screams of a supportive crowd. He prefers to never talk about his own desire to work as a car mechanic or engineer in F1.

Mickey was sixteen when he left after ninth grade for a vocational college to applied mechanics specialty.

Because, well, he had good reasons for leaving school two grades early. At the very least, he was already tired of going to school. He didn't even have any friends there. Yes, he communicated with classmates, but that's not it. It's forced. Just so as not to be an outcast and maintain the status of the Milkovich family by playing dirty tricks at school and bullying others. Did he like it? Absolutely not. These guys were idiots with stupid jokes and always picking on chicks.

They kept asking if he liked any of them and talking about how they looked all the time. Mickey never liked anyone. It wasn't that the girls were ugly, he just didn't find them attractive. But he pushed these thoughts away and ignored them. Left it somewhere near to the tiny race cars in the darkness.

Also, classmates called him into fights on regularly. Not that he was against kicking someone's dumb ass, but that he would prefer better reasons than just trying to prove whose class is above.

Another reason is that, in their family, working with their hands and having a real profession are more valued than going to higher education. Because this is a job for real men. Where will all these managers, lawyers, accountants, stupid psychologists be when their car breaks down? Mechanics will always have work and profit.

As well, Mickey is deeply curious about the workings of the engine and wants to fully understand its mechanisms. He will therefore be able to study this in practice with teachers, rather than with a psychotic bastard who screams at the slightest opportunity.

The only thing Mickey truly wanted to learn at school was English. Not because he loved it. This gave him at least some hope of "breaking abroad for the sake of a good life". Perhaps the main reason for his success was that he had a really great teacher who pushed and encouraged him. Sometimes he would stick around after class and stay just to talk with her. Mickey felt parental care, which he hasn't received lately.

“I believe that you can achieve a lot, Mikhailo. Just believe in yourself.” She told him and he believed her, hugging her a little longer so as not to show his wet eyes.

And well, after leaving school, these words sometimes came to mind during the saddest times, when he returned home after a long day of school combined with an exhausting shift in the family garage. Every time he spoke with his dad, he felt terribly devastated. The dream was literally slipping out from Mickey's hands. A pipe dream, is that what they say? Well, at least he'll try to do something.

Mickey was twenty when he graduated and by this time he was actively saving money, hiding it in different places. Also, he planned his escape from home, considered the best routes, and looked at what things he should take with him, confused about whether he would ever return home again.

As he approached his twenty-first birthday, he finally decided to do it. With only a spark of hope, he was ready to leave for nowhere. And okay, Mickey was a realist; he was aware that things might not work out at all and that he would have to return back eventually. But he'll do anything, though, to make sure that this doesn't happen, to avoid having to meet his dad's derisive gaze once more as his goal gets mocked.

After all, a dream is a dream, right? He also had skills and language abilities in his pocket. So he's really ready to do anything to attain even the tiniest success.

To get to UK, Mickey had to go through a long journey of transfers from bus to train, from train to plane. He's terribly tired, but here he is. He stands and watches as the new country greets him with heavy rain.

He first found it difficult to adjust to other people's smiling faces. There were a few times when he didn't feel at home because everyone was so friendly and lovely. And these people were incredibly talkative. He'll have to get used to this if he plans to stay here.

The first difficulties he encountered occurred at the department while filling out a form for migrants.

“Mik.. Mikai.. Mikaelo?”

“Mikhailo.” Mickey interrupted.

The employee's eyes stared blankly at him.

He sighed. “Ugh.. Mickey? Yeah, Mickey.”

“Okay, Mickey. Here you are.”

Mickey got a job as a mechanic for a small business fairly quickly thanks to his abilities. He was so easily and warmly accepted into the friendly team. Here he first felt respect while working. Mickey got assistance from the job department in extending his visa to stay in the country. His job also provided him with a tiny apartment, deducted from his paycheck.

After a while, feeling a little more self-assured, Mickey started saving money for qualifying courses that would help him in the future.

Mickey was almost twenty-four when he successfully obtained all the qualifications that were necessary for the job, as well as to be sure of himself and his knowledge. During this time two full racing seasons had passed. He attended only one race at Silverstone. This was his almost full year in the UK. His skin broke out in goosebumps when he saw the track in person. It wasn't quite what he expected. Mickey literally stood in one place and once in a while cars would drive by. On TV they show a larger overview, but still. He was excited. In this grand prix, a new young racer from the McLaren team took third place for the first time. His name seems to be Ian, and he likes to take risks on the track, driving the car while presenting a strong sense of confidence. And his hair perfectly matches with the team's car.

He missed the second race due to a qualifying exam. But he's not upset. Mickey is closer than ever to his dream. If everything works out, he'll see even more racing. If not, well, then he'll continue to work repairing regular cars. Perhaps he'll be able to attend grand prix events in other countries during his holidays?

But now it's the middle of the season and he's standing in the lobby of the McLaren Technology Center. He's trembling a little and his wild eyes are scanning everything in the immediate area.

Mickey can't believe the reality of what's happening. No he didn't become a mechanic. But.. it's still impressive. He was interviewed and tested to become a temporary vehicle technician for the team as an intern. He was told something about a possible career advancement and access to other things once he completed more qualifications, but he's not sure he heard everything correctly.

Later they tested him on team tests on the track. He's surprised that he was able to concentrate on his speed and did everything exactly as needed.

He actually became… exactly the one who changes the wheels and does minor repairs. He joined the technical team and will also work on pit stops during the races. And well, okay, if everything that's happening isn't a dream, he's really happy. Extremely happy. Of course, the longer he studied, the more he wanted to do engineering and development. But that's the tiny step, right? This is already more than anything he could have imagined. He saw the race in real life from the stands, and now he got the opportunity to see everything from the staff. He'll interact directly with the racing car. He might even hear how the team interacts with racers. Unbelievable.

Through the noise in his ears, Mickey hears someone standing beside him talking in a muffled voice.

“Hey! You're a new technician, right?”

The guy had already taken off his helmet when Mickey turned around. He softly smiles while stroking his fiery red hair.

Mickey stared at him. When he was brought to the track, he thought that some tester was sitting in the car, but not their young star.

“Yeah. Hope so…” He twitched his lip and scratched nose. “You're Ian, right?”

Of course this is Ian, what a stupid question. It's too embarrassing.

The redhead smile became even larger.

“Yeah…”

And just as he was about to add something else, one of the staff called Ian to go back and he hurriedly turned to Mickey and said quickly, “Oh, uh, see ya later then, gotta go.”

I'm glad I finally wrote and drew this. This idea has literally taken over my head so much that I don't have the energy to write Ian's backstory in the same way. Once again I am convinced that writing is hard work. And I want to say again about my love for writers. YOU ARE INCREDIBLE. For my brain, drawing is easier than writing. But it was fun!

!!!AND!!! THE MOST IMPORTANT THING! If someone suddenly wants to write a big multi-chap slowburn fic or little drabble or do anything, I'll be happy so much with absolutely anything!!

Let's talk about Ian now. I was actually going to write a backstory for him too. Maybe at least some minor notes, but I'm not quite sure how best to connect his bipolar with racing. Usually because racers drive go-karts from childhood, get into the junior league and generally build a racing career for years. Maybe he had a breakdown somewhere between seasons and it was quickly noticed?? I don’t know… And I think about how the team constantly checks him, which at times upsets him and forces him to prove to everyone that he is fine and able to drive the car.

Most likely, in this AU, Gallaghers are either rich, or Ian has a sponsor, if you know what I mean… From this fact, a whole lot can change in story. And the second thing seems more likely to me.

I was thinking about how Ian joined the McLaren team at the age of 21, and by the time he first met Mickey he was 22. He had been stable for a long time on medication.

So I'm also considering the possibility that somewhere between his 17-19 years he disappeared from the radar and came back when he found a sponsor who could pay for everything he needed and help him get into the F1 league. At first it was the weakest team, until his potential was noticed and he was offered to move to another team. This fact with the sponsor will probably put a lot of spokes in the wheels (ha).

Racer's body is undergoing an enormous physical strain, so they spend a lot of time in the gym. And Ian really enjoys working out with his team.

Another interesting fact: racers have a super-strong neck to be able to cope with gravitational forces during the race. Therefore, special attention is paid to neck in training. (It seems from the moment I found out this my little fixation began…)

I think there's a lot of pining here or something. They seem to be nearby, but due to different job responsibilities, at completely distinct levels. And I really want to read something like this with so slow burning.

So, I guess you can consider this as a big prompt for writing, if it inspires you.

OC Deep Dive Questionnaire Tag

What uncommon/common fear do they have? Blood. Any significant amount of blood freaks him out and makes him feel faint. He was afraid to get any tattoos 'cause of this -- he thought he'd see more blood. 😂 That and losing his loved ones. Do they have any pet peeves? Ian's typically pretty patient and permissive of things... but he has a very good method to his madness when it comes to organizing (he's most definitely got ADHD, but was never diagnosed), so anyone moving something can frustrate him pretty quickly. What are 3 items you can find in their bedroom? A guitar he rarely plays, his bong, and a perpetual pile of laundry that can be either dirty or clean. What do they notice first in a person? Their ~vibes~. 😂 How easily they'll laugh, how they carry themselves, how they speak, that kind of thing. On a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance? Not high, but not super low... Maybe 5 to 6? The worst he's experienced is breaking bones (his wrist and ankle, due to skateboarding) and he handled that... okay, so long as he didn't look at it. 😂 Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure? He's between flight and freeze more than fight. But if he were completely cornered, I'm sure he'd end up trying his luck with fighting. Do they come from a big family/are they a family person? His family's pretty small, and smaller still since his dad died when he was 18. He basically just has his mom left. They talk sometimes and he'll go visit occasionally, but he doesn't really like to. It's a complicated thing... His mom almost always brings up his dad at least once, and he'd just rather not talk about him at all, lest it bring up ~feelings~. He also feels slightly ashamed whenever he sees his mother, feeling like he's let her down and hasn't been there enough for her. So... instead of forcing himself to make a change, he'd really rather just. Run away from it as much as possible. What animal represents them best? Somehow he is both a golden retriever and a cat... though I'd say he's either got Orange Boy Cat energy or Ragdoll energy. What is a smell that they dislike? Super strong perfume. Especially the ones that smell more... chemical-y than natural. How would a stranger likely describe them? Weird, but... endearing? A little awkward, but in a shameless sort of way. What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love? Ian hates anything too bitter. Super dark chocolate? No. Black coffee? No. Brussels sprouts? Ick. But he loves sweet and spicy. Korean food comes to mind. Though his favourite food is pizza. Do they have any hobbies? Drawing... He did it more as a kid, but he still dabbles in it occasionally. He also is pretty good at coding and could probably create his own video game too, but hasn't tried... Apart from that. Uh. Smoking weed? Eating? 😂 Boom, surprise birthday party! How do they react to surprises? Ian loves surprises... so long as they're good ones. But more than that, he loves surprising other people more. Do they like to wear jewelry? He does. He typically wears rings and bracelets. Sometimes he'll wear a necklace or two. Do they have neat or messy handwriting? Slightly messy... but still completely legible. What are two emotions they feel the most? Does devotion count as an emotion...? I'd say playful and devoted. Do they have a favorite fabric? Not really... Ian gets a lot of his stuff second hand. He does have a lot of cotton and denim though. What kind of accent do they have? Slight New York Bronx accent, but nothing super strong.

TV show, for sure. I love the movies but my heart belongs to the TV show.

Tragg, always Tragg. Ray Collins is perfect and Book!Tragg is incredibly fantastic as well. (if you think the TV show is hella gay, I beg of you, please read the books; I just read one where Tragg tracks Perry and Paul to a sauna and Perry literally invites him to get naked to interview them)

I don't know if I would say friends, but I think they were friendly, at least in the TV universe (books are a different story when it comes to Hamilton). I think the TV show went a long way towards making Hamilton a more likeable, respectable character and I do think that he and Perry respected each other and their grasp of the law. I don't think they're ever poker buddies or anything like that, but I think at a dinner party or Bar Association dinner they could share a conversation and a drink without getting into a brawl.

I think she's just an old girlfriend of Paul's. In my headcanon (shameless plug for my fic, "The Younger One") she's a former lounge singer named Nancy.

Yes, I think he was. Remember, the DA is an elected position and Hamilton Burger served at least 2 terms over the course of the show. No DA, especially in LA County, is going to be re-elected if they're bad at their job.

He definitely had other clients and I'm sure some of them did take plea deals. We see in canon that several episodes end with him telling his newly-acquitted client that the real killer has a strong case for self-defense, etc., and says he's going to defend them. Most notably I'm thinking of the ending of TCOT Baited Hook.

WIP Questionnaire Tag

Thanks for the tag, @mysticstarlightduck! I'll use Traveling Bards for this, as is the current trend for me.

1. What’s the first part of your WIP that you created?

The outline? That's usually how I start. If you mean of the actual story, then chapter 1. If you mean the concept itself, the characters.

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

Best I can find is Passerine by The Oh Hellos (the artists who made Solider, Poet, King). I'd love to find a more comedic/energetic song, though.

3. What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?

Within this story? The MCs, lol. Especially Felix, my beloved son! I'm not gonna lie, the sisters are inspired by some IRL people that I love very much. But even without that, they're just so fun! This is my first "simple"/comedy story, so there's less of a focus on prose or "depth" and more on me just dicking around with these guys, so I'm really having a blast with them. Their characters are the most unhinged I've written so far, though I hope to change that soon.

Felix isn't inspired by an IRL person, but he's kind of shameless wish-fulfillment. Traveling Bards initially began as a parody of a very specific genre of anime, so he's essentially what I wish would happen/what I love to see for characters with his archetype.

For the favorites of all time? Can't choose, honestly. Love all of them!

4. What other pieces of media do you think your fanbase would share?

Memes. Or, I'd hope so. If it ever got adapted, I'd love a compilation video or funny edits. Regardless? Endless shitposts, sprinkled with random and unwarranted brainrot thesis-long thinkpieces on elements of my characters and world-building that I never even considered when writing it that ultimately change the way even I view my characters. I'd love a good Tumblr essay from someone being Totally Normal about one of my funky little guys.

5. What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?

Actually writing it! Lmao. For the 3 people that have seen my writing logs, you'd know I had to recently overhaul the entire initial arc as well as the 3 chapters I already wrote! Though I guess plot points would also be part of that struggle.

6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

All kinds! Anything from normal animals to classic fantasy ones to ones I personally made up! My favorite out of all of them are the dragons. Because dragons are fucking awesome. My second favorite are the ones I made myself.

One of the first ones I introduce is the "crystal frog" which is this really cute frog that's quite literally translucent- kind of like the glass frog, but even more translucent! And light refracts off of it like a crystal!

7. How do your characters travel/get around?

Carriage/horse most often at first, then eventually via ship, then flying (with magic or on a magic creature). So. Basically anything but a plane or car.

8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?

Actually writing it! I'm currently only a few chapters in on my first rough draft. My goal is to create the entire rough draft with as few edits as possible and then to go back and revise the whole thing, since that'll be easier for me than trying to make each chapter "perfect" before I move on.

9. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) You think will draw your audience in?

I guess for those that are more familiar with this genre, it'll be that. Isekais/reincarnation/transmigration/portal fantasy/whatever you want to call it. It's also got found family and friendship (kinda spoiler-y, but there's a sibling adoption involved!). Lots of "be gay, do crime" instances too.

It's also primarily an adventure-comedy, with a kinda parody-angle to it. They're intentionally gunning for these classic Hero Adventure experiences, in a bucket-list kind of way. Also, they're bards (for lack of a more accurate and snappy term) in a fantasy setting. So if you like a heavy emphasis on a sibling bond and ridiculous people getting into ridiculous situations of their own making, I'm hoping this will be appealing!

10. What are your hopes for your WIP?

That it gets finished, LMAO. My goal is to complete the rough draft by the end of summer, so that I can spend fall and winter revising, rewriting, editing, etc. I eventually hope (like most writers) to one day publish it. But let's not get ahead of ourselves! I can't get there if I don't even finish it.

Not sure who to tag, so I'll come back to it later.

Mass Effect Questionnaire

I saw @littleneonlily do this, so I figured I'd give it a shot, too, while I still have Mass Effect on the brain. 1. Tie between Wrex and Liara

2. Mordin, Samara, Zaeed, and Tali

3. Liara and Tali again, Kaidan, and Javik

4. The M-76 Revenant. Who doesn't love a non-stop barrage of death?

5. Still like the Revenant, but if you want me to pick something else, I'll do the N7 Valkyrie

6. Soldier. Go ahead, call me bland, but I think it best fits both the gameplay and the story. Though I do also like the Vanguard and Sentinel classes.

7. Noveria in Mass Effect 1. I dunno why, but I just love the atmosphere this planet has, both setting and story wise.

8. Tying in with the above, the entirety of Noveria's arc, for the same reasons, with Bringing Down the Sky right behind it.

9. The Suicide Mission itself, which is my favorite level in all of gaming. Runner-ups would have to include Garrus's Recruitment, Tali and Grunt's Loyalty Missions, and the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC.

10. It's gonna be a tie between Priority Rannoch and Tuchanka. And the entirety of the Citadel DLC, too.

11. Depends. With Male Shepard, I like to pair him with Kaidan (shameless Mshenko fan here). With Female Shepard, I like to romance Liara. Tali's a big runner up

12. I kinda wish James Vega was a romance option, preferably Bi, because I love my himbos. Other than that, I'd love to see some bisexual romance options from currently romanceable companions, such as Garrus, Tali, Thane, and Miranda.

13. Mako. Both control like ass, but at least the Mako isn't made of wet tissue paper.

What made you pick up this character?

The Rei brainrot simply took root the moment I saw her on screen. I'm not entirely joking bc when I first started watching eva I was quite quickly drawn to Rei because of the big air of mystery that surrounds her; visually she's very distinct from other characters bc of her hair and eye colours, and compared to the others she has less screen time and far less dialogue. Ofc this is intentional to some extent as we're not supposed to know about Rei's origins till much later, but I was just fascinated by how Rei was so central to lore and mystery of E.vangelion but often not explored as often as others, or put in the peripheral of scenes. BUT the scenes we do have when we get explicit insight into her thoughts and feelings are so so fascinating and lonely and heartbreaking that they stuck in mind often, long after I finished watching the series + the movie. I just couldn't stop thinking about how Rei never had a chance at living; as someone literally created from the hubris and grief of others, someone who was never supposed to be, she's trapped in a cycle of being used, constantly struggling to reconcile any semblance of identity because she's only ever a vessel for people's projections. And most of the time she's very resigned to this, but the brief glimpses of her suppressed feelings, particularly her anger at the whole situation really broke my heart, and I really really just wanted to try my hand at exploring this character who so rarely got to voice herself.

How did you get into this franchise/fandom?

My friend convinced me to watch it lmao. I very vaguely remember watching something from the eva franchise when I was around 13/14, but I can't remember what it was, all I remember was being confused JKGFFKL But yeah I'd been aware of eva because it is so popular and referenced a lot in other things, but my friends recommendation pushed me to finally check it out, so I'd watch episodes and message him my reactions as I watched. I find it funny bc I would ask so many questions and he couldn't tell me shit without watching, he'd just send :) smiley faces as I came up with my own theories, and now I do the exact same to my other friends I rope into watching it HJKKL

Which song do you feel describes your character the most and why?

GOD there are SO MANY songs that I associate with Rei or make me think of her ( shameless plug of my playlist for her ) , but one that makes me lose my mind in particular is Autoclave by the m.ountain goats. The metaphor of the heart as an autoclave, a self-locking pressure chamber, struck me as so reicore because for all the introspection she does, a lot of the time she struggles to understand her own feelings, her own heart, and deep down she's frightened of of doing so because she's scared to confront the 'ugly' parts of her - all the anger and anguish and resentment she buries deep down which, if realised with her ability to literally wipe out humanity, could be dangerous. That sort of destructive, apocalyptic imagery is pretty ripe in this song: "Hand me your hand, let me look in your eyes/ As my last chance to feel human begins to vaporize", "I am this great, unstable mass of blood and foam", "And I reach deep down within, but the pathways twist and turn/ And there's no light anywhere, and nothing left to burn" It very much makes me think of Rei leading up to instrumentality, coming to terms with her inevitable 'death'.

2.-One good thing that came out of these polls is that Marcus is not as overrated as I thought he would be. And that's good, because that way there is a good balance with the characters and there is not just one well-written one.In any case, he likes to see that all the characters have somehow received love and hate equally... Except for someone who, since the beginning of the surveys, has kept me awake.

3.-It is not to be accusatory, but I suspect that several of the mini hell are in the same situation. (Highlights for that include the original Medievil soundtrack, which for some reason reminds me of Castlevania at times.) Last movie you saw: Birds of Prey! I almost didn’t go due to not feeling great, so I’m glad I bucked up and saw it with some friends. The diabolik part is because I originally joined Tumblr to find a community for Diabolik Lovers (due to some other writing sites being very.. standoffish if you don’t write canons/don’t exclusively write gay ships), but now it’s just all kinds of vampire hell. Once I actually get into some more vampy verses you can bet I’ll be writing/reblogging stuff from those as well! and yes I am looking for more recommendations in that vein (heh, puns) if anyone has some. Average amount of sleep: Erm.. 3-12 hours. During the week it’s about 3-5, and weekends is sometimes my “catch up” time where I still stay up quite late, but actually sleep in to let my body get some rest. Lucky number: It’s always been 9, and it tends to come up a lot in odd places so I might have to stick with it. Currently wearing: An old super comfy high school t-shirt and shorts, complete with a coat of long hair courtesy of my cat who was just laying on me. Dream job: Honestly? Still figuring that out. There’s a strange sense of freedom, even though you’re mostly confined to a boat. I’d love to visit Ireland and Germany since it’s where almost my entire family come from and often the landscape is beautiful, and since our culture’s kind of been watered down after a few generations living here I’d like to connect with that. Favorite foods: I have like 2-3 cups of tea in a day and keep exploring all kinds of new types, so that’d probably be it literally. Ones that I idealize in my head though wheeze would probably be things like steak, or scallops, or a specific kind of ice cream shaved ice thing I had once that legitimately made me tear up because it was so good.  Play any instruments? I tried to pick up the coronet in grade school since my dad played the trumpet and I thought it’d be fun, but I had some trouble memorizing the order of notes for songs, and it all kind of fell apart after an instructor dented up my instrument with a drumstick and tried to refuse to apologize/pay for it. (Yes, seriously, but that’s a story for another time. xD)

Y/N POV

I woke up to Katsuki sleepily stroking himself. Low muted grunts left him as his hand moved lazily up and down his cock. I reveled in how the morning sun looked painted across his chest before scooting closer. I grabbed and angled his hips, opening my legs so his cock could sit between my thighs just below my center. Another ring of the doorbell followed by knocks. I reached in my closet and quickly changed into a nice comfortable outfit that gave off the opposite vibes of my whole demeanor.

"I implied I had a significant other one time a long time ago and she called me giving me the run-down on how she would pop up and do a background check just to check if he's worthy of me." I said.

Which given the last guy would've been a good idea...

"And your reputation doesn't help." I groaned.

"What does that mean?" He huffed, watching me scramble.

"I love you Explosion Murder God Dynamight but you're not popular when it comes to civilian relations." I said quickly, putting all of my stuff in their places.

I looked him up and down, scrambling. What can he wear? I didn't have anything! He can't answer the door shirtless. Oh shit. My mom wasn't on social media but what if someone she knew was? "We're gonna go the honest route." I said after a few seconds of deliberation.

"But isn't your mom scary or something?"

"Yes but trying to hide will make it worse. Plus she's um...cool. She can be cool!" I stammered unconvincingly. Katsuki gave me a long look before I sighed. "And she has a sixth sense like you wouldn't believe. Last night's clothes are not gonna work. Especially since you're here before 12."

"Why does that matter?"

"I don't like seeing people before the afternoon hits." I said, changing into pajamas.

"Coulda fooled me. I seem to remember someone being a morning person every time I've slept over." Katsuki teased, giving me a chaste kiss on the shoulder.

"See comments like that? Not allowed. In fact, now it's the olden days and you can't even look at my shoulders or ankles. That is officially scandalous until this visit is over." I said, trying to figure out what pajamas said 'we did boink but I'm still your loving daughter'.

"Now I'm starting to get nervous."

"You probably should be." I said. "I'm gonna answer the door now. Just hang back til I come get you."

I speed walked to the door and opened it. My mom set down her bags and gave me a huge hug.

"Sleepy girl, you're gonna have to learn to get up early sometime!" She said with a laugh.

She walked inside, setting down the groceries on the table.

"Haha yea...Um I have something to tell you actually." I said hesitantly.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Her entire demeanor changed as she focused on me.

Her hand quickly brushed a knife and a mallet. I gulped.

"Ah...Well...Uh..." I stumbled, unsure how to start this conversation.

Katsuki walked out with last night's shirt into the kitchen. I slapped my hand to my forehead and released a tiny angry grunt. Then gestured towards him.

"Mom, this is my boyfriend Katsuki. He's also known as Dynamight." I rattled off, my eyes glaring at him while I plastered on a smile.

He ignored my gaze and held out his hand.

"Nice to meet you Mrs. L/N." He said politely.

She looked at his hand, then at me. Her expression dissolved into a critical one and I could see Katsuki's confidence faltering. I didn't know if the idiot thought his star power would save him from this but he dug his own grave.

"I see. Nice to meet you Dynamight." She said coldly as she brushed past him, lightly touching him along the way.

She gestured to the dining table and pulled out a chair.

"Have a seat. Both of you."

I sighed and walked over, flopping into a chair while Katsuki stiffly sat.

"Y/N." She said.

"Mom, just hold on. Listen to me for a sec." I said and she raised an eyebrow.

"I'm listening."

"So Um this sort of just happened, or re-happened. Alot happened. But I really like him alot." I said softly. "Like love. Maybe."

Even if he's a cocky idiot who doesn't know how to listen.

Her eyes widened. I met her gaze then turned away, embarrassed to admit it to her. She glanced at Katsuki again then me.

"That much?" She said softly. "You never said that about your last one. What was his name...Hoppy?"

Katsuki snickered and she shot him an uninterested look to which he promptly shut up.

"When were you going to tell me about him? Were you going to tell me about him at all?"

"I was. We just recently patched things."

"Oh?" She asked, her eyes narrowing as she focused on him. "And what did you patch up?"

"I um. I hit a low point and acted awful to him."

Katsuki stiffened beside me.

"We...weren't treating each other right." He said quickly. "Ma'am."

"And we recently got it sorted out." I said, getting her attention back on me.

"Considering you definitely slept together last night that checks out." She said with a tiny smirk.

Katsuki blushed and I looked away, covering my face. She laughed a bit before returning to her ice cold persona. She sharply looked towards Katsuki..

"Dynamight."

"Yes ma'am." He jumped.

"You met my daughter around the time your hero ranking was starting to slip because of your bedside manner with civilians." She said, her eyes and voice piercing. "Are you using her to keep your ranking? If I understand correctly, rankings are very volatile with new heroes."

Katsuki's nostrils flared at the suggestion, his whole body straightened. His hands curled into fists and I saw his mouth open without thinking. Again.

"I would never do some vile shit like that." He growled before collecting himself.

"Young man if you think of cursing at me again and I'll teleport both your kidneys onto this table." She said calmly.

His eyes widened as he gulped. His hands started to steam as he nodded quickly.

"But...I like that you're clearly disgusted by the idea." She said, a small smile on her face.

She adjusted herself, sitting up straight, looking between us before settling on me.

"What do you want from him?" She asked. "How seriously should I take this thing between you?"

I glanced at Katsuki who looked at me curiously.

"Dorayaki seriously." I said quickly before I could chicken out.

Her eyes bugged out of her head as she gaped at me. She looked at Katsuki again before settling back on me.

"Okay. I see." She turned towards Katsuki. "What are your intentions with my daughter?"

"I'm very serious about her ma'am." He said resolutely.

I felt this tiny bubble of anxiety in my chest dissolve as his words registered with me. He sounded so sincere. My mom searched his eyes and finally relaxed.

"Well then. Glad to know she's got a big shot hero protecting her. He seems like a good guy unlike that other one...Grand? Never liked him much."

"Mom!" I whined.

Katsuki gave me a shit-eating grin.

"What! I was worried! He seemed shady is all!" My mom said, throwing her hands in the air.

"I totally agree. He's just not a good fit for ya y'know." Katsuki teased then nervously glanced at my mom.

She tried to keep up the Mafia Mom act but she smiled then cracked up.

"I really like this one Sleepy Girl!" She said happily as she headed to the kitchen.

She paused for a moment and looked back.

"Oh Katsuki I forgot something!"

She teleported in front of him, pulled his hair back and lightly touched his throat.

"You hurt my daughter and I'll send you to the middle of the ocean with a knife stuck in your throat. No one will hear you. No one will see you and no one will know." She said with a calm, almost cheerful voice.

She let Katsuki go and hummed as she went into the kitchen, the knife she touched earlier appearing in her hand. Katsuki whirled to me, leaning in close.

"Why the fuck didn't you tell your scary mom about Hosei!" He whispered.

"Because I thought I was the problem and I was scared she'd tell me I was the problem." I hissed back.

The words died in Katsuki's throat as he settled down. He looked at me grumpily before glancing at my mom. When he saw that her back was turned and gave me a searing but chaste kiss.

"It's too late to say it but don't do that shit anymore. Please." He murmured as he pulled away. "Also what was the thing with the Dorayaki?"

I quickly looked away, my face heating up. "It means I'm really serious...basically."

Katsuki looked like he was gonna ask more questions but my mom asked him to help in the kitchen. She watched Katsuki chop some vegetables and complimented him with a smile. He smirked back but it lacked its usual arrogance. He still seemed scared of her which I could tell she liked. I looked towards Iris' room wondering why she hasn't come out yet. Usually she'd at least say hi. Or eat. A little worried, I knocked on her door and silence greeted me. I slowly opened the door, peeping in to see the room empty. Her window was wide open. More strands of long white hair scattered in her bed. I closed the door to her room deciding to ask later if something was up.

"Y/N set the table!" My mom called out.

"Okay!" I called back, waking down the hall.

We had dinner and actually had a great conversation. Katsuki and my mom seemed to get along pretty well especially when it came to opinions on pro heroes. She also is happy he's a good cook because quote 'All Sleepy Girl does it eat and sleep'. We finished our food and my mom stood up. She gave me a look to follow her in the kitchen when she grabbed her plate. I grabbed Katsuki's and he protested a moment before I gave him a look.

"She wants to talk to me. Alone." I whispered to him.

He nodded and went into my room, making up an excuse. I walked into the kitchen where my mom watched Katsuki walk away with a smile.

"He's really cute." She giggled and elbowed me.

"Yea yea."

"And he's so head over heels for you! As he should be if he's dating my daughter." She hummed happily.

"Yea. He...makes me really happy." I said, shyly scrubbing the dishes. "Sometimes I don't even know how to process it."

"Cherish it. Tell you love him and kiss him a lot. Just bask in it, sleepy girl." She said warmly. "Speaking of which."

She pulled me into a hug and squeezed me tight.

"I love you and I'm proud of you." She murmured. "I was so worried about you but you're okay."

My eyebrows pulled together at the statement. Considering we haven't talked much and I haven't given her anything to worry about, that's odd.

"Why were you worried?"

"Those pictures you sent when you were with Hopper or whatever. He made you so miserable. I'm glad you broke up with him." She said. "He wasn't good enough for you."

"And Katsuki?" I asked.

"He isn't either but....he's close." She said begrudgingly

"No one's good enough huh?"

"Nope. My sleepy girl is too good for everyone. She should just stay with her dear old mom!" She kissed me on the cheek.

"Whatever." I rolled my eyes and untangled myself from her arms.

"So...how often does he sleep over?" She asked, faux casual.

I'd rather die than have this conversation.

"Mom!"

"Are you guys using protection?" She asked

I lied. NOW I'd rather die than have this conversation.

"Mom!"

"I'm just asking, I want you to be safe! Make him put a ring on it before pregnancy!"

"Mommy! I-Yes we're being safe! I'm on birth control!"

"And condoms?" She asked.

I purposefully scrubbed the dishes and her eyes bugged out.

"Did that boy tell you not to wear condoms?" She asked, her eyes narrowing.

"No! I...I sort of...made that decision." I said, noting all the times I purposefully didn't buy condoms.

"Just like your mama." She tsked.

I gaped at her for a moment to which she avoided my gaze. I made a disgusted face at the dishes.

"I literally never wanted to know that." I said.

We joked around for a bit while we finished cleaning up and she asked me to switch out with Katsuki. I gave her a look and she batted her eyes at me. I don't trust her to not threaten him again but I don't have any choice. I sighed and went into my room.

Katsuki POV

"Your turn." Y/N said as she walked in.

"Is she gonna threaten me again?" I asked, a cold sweat still on the back of my neck from earlier.

"Probably not." She sighed and sat on my lap.

She kissed me softly on the lips. I deepened the kiss, moving lips against hers and pulling her closer to me. She broke it off and wrapped her arms around my shoulders.

"Can you sleep over again tonight?" She asked, burrowing into me with a sigh.

"I think I can do that." I murmured, pulling her into one more kiss.

"Mmm. You gotta go." She said after a few minutes.

"I know." I grumbled.

"Don't be scared."

"That's so easy for you to say." I pointed out.

I sighed and got up, walking out of the room to where her mom was waiting. I stepped out onto the balcony and closed the door behind me. She handed me a glass of water and I obliged.

"So when are you planning on proposing?"

I choked, sputtering everywhere as I tried to recover. She waited for me to quiet down before continuing.

"I don't mean that as pressure, I mean that I can see it when you look at her." She said, sipping her tea. "You already look so devoted."

"It's that obvious?"

She gave me a deadpan look. I guess it genuinely couldn't have been more obvious.

"Whatever you two went through, it proved some things for both of you." She said softly. "I have no doubts you'd do anything for her."

I reflected on everything. The banter, the trauma, the kidnapping and aftereffects. A lot of it was pain. Pain I'd happily go through again to have what we have now.

"I really would." I said, feeling a tender smile on my face against my will.

She looked at me for a moment then smiled warmly.

"That's good enough for me. Welcome to the family, Katsuki. I hope you're good at dodgeball." She laughed.

"Oh yea she mentioned that. Are the games really that intense?" I asked.

"You tell me Pro Hero. It's in a couple of months, so you better prepare." She sipped her tea again. "What about kids?"

I stiffened as she looked at me carefully.

"Since you guys aren't using condoms..."

Y/N told her that????

"I um. Don't know. I mean I'm not opposed, I just. I'm still working on the proposing part." I stammered.

"Hmmm. Well she's a sucker for cheesy romantic gestures." She said. "That girl consumed every romcom movie out there. Except the hallmark ones, she hated those for some reason."

Notes for later.

She held out her cup to me.

"Cheers!"

"Uh. Cheers." I clanked my glass to hers and drank some more water.

We headed inside shortly after. Y/N joined us and we all hung about swapping stories. Her mom shared parts of Y/N's childhood. I begrudgingly shared some of mine. I told her mom about the details of my hero work and we both carefully avoided saying any details of our rocky patch. She will tell her mom when she's ready. The end of the day arrived and Mrs. L/N headed towards the door.

"You better visit me next time Y/N." She said softly.

"I will!" She squeezed her and they swayed a bit before letting go.

With a final wave her mom left and we looked at each other. She walked over and flopped on the couch, letting out a huge sigh.

"So! You survived!" She said.

"Barely. Can she really teleport my kidneys out of my body?" I asked.

"Yea. Since she touched you earlier. She can teleport herself and anything she touches within a certain time limit. She later learned how to teleport individual pieces of what she touches after my brother kept getting shit stuck inside of other things." She explained.

"Your whole family is terrifying."

"Crazy right? Could you imagine if we were a family of supervillains? That'd be pretty bad." She laughed.

I briefly considered the implications of just her mom being a villain. She wasn't kidding. Crimes where organs disappear would be hard to track down. We could try tracking the seller but that would involve DNA testing and a ton of man power. Plus all she'd have to do is get someone else to sell it and teleport the goods from a distance. First contact with that seller can be in disguise. Then no contact needed. Body disposal would be easy. She can also delay the point of contact she has with the person so that it would be harder to pin her down. Plus the contact can just simply be brushing their hands or something. Nothing anyone would really notice. We're not even getting into the destructive power of adding Y/N to the mix. A shiver ran down my spine at the theoretical close call.

"Yea." I agreed. "Very bad. Anyway, I wanna cuddle with my girlfriend now. That allowed?" I asked pouting.

"Yes! Let's watch something spooky too!" She said, taking my hand and pulling me to her room.

We laid together watching various shows and talking about nothing for a long while. Eventually the conversation slowed down and it dissolved into just enjoying the feeling of being in each other's arms. I felt my eyes grow heavy as staying up last night caught up to me. Vague images of how she looked while she was with Hosei haunted me. I'll never let that happen to her again. My arms tightened around her.

"Y/N?" I slurred together.

"Hmm?"

"I'll always protect you okay?" I said softly. "Always."

"Okay." She giggled.

"Fuck Hosei." I murmured, feeling myself drifting off.

"Totally." She laughed. "Fuck that guy."

She reached up, running her hands through my hair finally lulling me into sleep.

How building and zoning codes need to be changed to force transit oriented development to reduce car use and require buildings to be built to passive house standard along with all existing structures getting deep energy retrofits, also to passive house standard, so that the human built environment can convert to being fully electrified and low energy, so that heat pumps can be used for indoor climate control and we can reduce global energy use enough to hopefully not die in the near future and also all be more comfortable in our homes and offices. Everyone start going to zoning meetings or whatever your local equivalent is, please. Eco and human friendly development is literally illegal in a lot of places right now, especially in Canada and the US.

what’s something you’d still like to do this year? Uhhhh break ground on my hypothetical house project??
