Trump administration fires director of National Security Agency
The Trump administration has removed the director and deputy director of the National Security Agency, the United States’ premier cyber intelligence agency, according to two individuals with direct knowledge, members of the Senate and House intelligence committees, and two former officials familiar with the matter.
The ousting of Gen. Timothy Haugh, who also oversees US Cyber Command — the military’s key cyber offense and defense unit — represents a major shakeup in the US intelligence sector during the early months of the Trump presidency. Wendy Noble, Haugh’s deputy at the NSA, was likewise dismissed, according to the same sources.
Senator Mark Warner and Representative Jim Himes, the top Democrats on the Senate and House intelligence committees, issued statements Thursday night sharply criticizing Haugh’s removal. Haugh had held the dual leadership roles since February 2024.

"Declares Megloughlin Goat for Others," Toronto Star. July 3, 1934. Page 1 & 2. ---- CONVICTS SHOULD GET SQUARE DEAL SAYS C.C.F. HEAD ---- "Have to Discount Official Statements, Many Found Untrue" ---- DEMAND INQUIRY ---- Declares Former Warden Rapped for Inefficiency of Others ---- Ottawa, July 3. - After discussing the wheat situation to-day, the House of Commons at 12.20 p.m. resumed the debate on penitentiaries.
J. S. Woodsworth, C.C.F., disclaimed the blame laid on his group for holding up prorogation Saturday night. The C.C.F. leader demanded fair play for the prisoners in the penitentiaries. He claimed they were the most helpless class of the community because they could not bring their grievances to parliament.
"We must discount the statements of ex-convicts. They are liable to be biased." said Mr. Woolworth, "but we have to discount official statements, many of them having been found untrue."
"We have been told that Col. Megloughlin was dismissed because he was not doing satisfactory work. It seems to me Megloughlin has been made the goat for inefficiency of other officials or lack of proper policy on the part of the department."
An investigation was essential. It should consider the whole question. Certain types of criminals should be sterilized or segregated 80 they could not produce children, for heredity was a vital factor.
"Society ought to be protected from habitual criminals. They ought never to be released," said Mr. Woodsworth. "Most people become criminals, however, not because of heredity, but of bad surroundings."
There was a close connection between unemployment and crime and the remedy lay not in building bigger prisons, but in improving conditions which contribute to crime.
Mr. Woodsworth advocated a royal commission, not merely to investigate Kingston penitentiary, but to make recommendations looking to the adoption of more modern, humane and intelligent methods.
The C.C.F. leader criticized the paddling ordered by the minister for those participating in the disturbance on the occasion of the visit of the governor-general. Such wholesale punishment was deplorable. Paddling should be reserved only for those guilty of very serious crimes and not for breaches of prison discipline.
Discussing Major Nickle's charges, Mr. Woodsworth said Major Nickle was ready to substantiate his charges. The form of punishment was the paddling of men with their hands above their heads: they were fed bread and water for days.
Has to be Shown "That has been abolished," said Miss Macphail. "I would like to know when," said Mr. Woodsworth, "if so it looks as though the protests were justified."
There were also serious charges of faulty hygiene and sanitation, prisoners with dangerous social diseases bathing with other prisoners.
It had been understood some years ago that when Collins Bay was established it was for youthful offenders, but it was used for certain preferred classes, including brokers.
Major Nickle had said that only 125 prisoners out of a great number had been given a chance to learn a trade. He wondered how men incarcerated for long periods could hope to re-establish themselves in life if they were given no opportunity to learn a trade.
Canada will live up to all obligations under the world wheat agreement, Premier Bennett told the House. There has been no breach of the pact by Canada and there would be none.
The prime minister's statement was taken to mean Canada would adhere to its quota of 200,000,000 bushels for the present crop year and approximately 267.000,-00 bushels for the next.
Hon. W. R. Motherwell, former minister of agriculture, introduced the wheat agreement, attacking it on the grounds it meant acreage and production reduction.
The first words in the Commons to-day were the congratulations of the leader of the opposition, speaking for the Commons to the prime minister on his 64th birthday.
In expressing his thanks, Mr. Bennett said: "I have had a very interesting and hard working life I have enjoyed the one and gained much interest from the other."

I'm a complete sucker for a good call back and would love if the show gave us a somber version of the cemetery scene from 8x05.
Buck and Tommy visit Bobby's grave site in 8x18.
Unlike in 8x05, Tommy stands directly beside Buck while the latter speaks to Bobby, keeping a hand pressed against the mid-section of his boyfriend's back, occasionally moving it up and down to remind Buck that he's there if he needs him.
Buck expresses how hard it's going to be navigating life without Bobby, who was always like a father to him. But he knows he has to keep moving forward, for the loved ones who are still here, but also for those who are no longer around. He knows he'll be able to do that effectively because Bobby showed him how.
"I'll look after Athena, May, and Harry. We all will. I promise."
When Buck leaves, Tommy lingers behind, making sure Buck is out of ear shot before looking down at Bobby and the audience.
"And I promise to look after him."
Tommy jogs to catch up with Buck, once again placing a palm against Buck's back before reaching down to grab his hand.
#911 abc#911 spoilers#bucktommy#i still don’t completely buy that the show will follow through with killing bobby.#but there is SO much dramatic potential that can be mined from this moving forward#that a part of me hopes they do#if only to give this show a much-needed shakeup.#that said - i still won’t be too upset if a twist brings him back.

I am sympathetic to people who get tired of seeing Barbara as Batgirl in stories, because yeah I also prefer her as Oracle. I think it respects her skillset more because she's got talents that she's generally wasting if she's bopping around in Batgirl costume as a street level hero.
Is everyone writing comics always going to agree with me? Clearly not. And we have a situation where there was a solid 10 year period from 2011 to 2021 where Barbara was not only Batgirl, but the Batgirl.
Damian has spent most of his time as a hero with Barbara as Batgirl. Jason has spent practically ALL of the period he's a hero or an anti-hero with Barbara as Batgirl (I don't believe he ever realised she was Oracle while he was a villain). And in the transition back into Babs being Oracle regularly from 2021 to date, this is realistically a new situation for both of them, because heck, Barbara was very specifically avoiding being on comms with Damian as Oracle during Reborn. He wasn't allowed in the Aerie.
But sometimes it feels almost obtuse when people in particular start going "why isn't Steph here as Damian's Batgirl?" about stories, particularly alternate continuity stories.
Because, largely, she's...not? You're trying to preference 4 issues of Batgirl 2009 and 1 issue of World's Finest where they interact over ten years of Barbara's stories? There are more pages of Christmas Specials featuring Damian as Robin and Barbara as Batgirl than there are appearances of Damian and Steph together during Batman: Reborn.
Why does some team ups and bickering in 2010 on page end up being more important than Barbara being there for Robin Rises? For Batman & Robin Eternal? For Alfred's wake?
If the story is specifically pitched as something set during Batman: Reborn? Sure, then you can have Damian and Steph together with Steph as 'his' Batgirl.
But any time after that? It's probably Barbara. It was Barbara. And having Babs included as Batgirl isn't always people out to make you mad. She was in the role on her own for 10 years. It's not surprising that she's the default for some people.
You can fight for this if you want it! But you're fighting an uphill battle and would be better off hoping for current interactions with a new reset, rather than trying to claim Steph and Damian are an 'obvious' pair when they're effectively not.
#I am also hoping just like everyone else that the new Cass title#plus a shakeup of the writing teams on books#may put Barbara into being used far more exclusively as Oracle into 2025#but writers aren't wrong to choose to use her as Batgirl#especially if editorial is clearly still fine with her flipping back and forth#(though yeah I do wish they'd take a firm line one way or another)

"MEGLOUGHLIN CASE ISSUE IN COMMONS," Toronto Star. June 16, 1934. Page 1. --- Reports From Kingston and Ottawa Contradictory - Say Bennett Insisted ---- By ROBERT LIPSETT Ottawa, June 16. - Statements from Kingston and from the minister of justice which flatly contradict each other with regard to the resignation of Warden Megloughlin of Portsmouth penitentiary are scheduled to become an issue in the House Monday.
Mr. Guthrie announced the resignation came voluntarily because Col. Megloughlin was tired of the job. Kingston reports declare the penitentiary department asked for the resignation, following careful consideration by the cabinet, one stating that the prime minister insisted on a change.
At the department of justice to-day it was stated there was nothing to add to what Mr. Guthrie had said yesterday. On Wednesday Mr. Guthrie said reports of the resignation were "made out of whole cloth."

the annual "tumblr is dying" freakout is as good a time as any to remind y'all that i can be found at other places! there's my patreon if you've got some money to spare and want to see behind-the-scenes stuff and the things i make and do but don't post as much about, instagram for cross-posts from here (and stories featuring WIPs and sometimes my critters), and my mailing list on my website if you just want emails about shop updates!
#not leaving until they kick me out tho dont worry#actually cautiously optimistic about this shakeup#the CEO being like well we're going to do something risky but brave to try and save the site and it might just be crazy enough to work:#instead of spending a lot of money on things people dont want. we are gonna spend as little money as possible on stuff people want#well. huge if true
