Loads of old Baldur's Gate drawings and doodles I made years ago, which are still near and dear to my heart.

Baldur's Gate 2 proper (aka Shadows of Amn) is as good as people say. Solid writing, interesting villain, likable companions, lots of variety in the environments.
But Throne of Bhaal? Way too combat heavy. Plus they went really over board with making every single fight a challenge. I am very much into strategizing when fighting some powerful entity at the end of a quest line or if I have to pass through a beholder den.
But I don't love having to heavily buff up even to fight a handful of town guards.
This game throws way too much crazy shit at you. I did Neera's companion quest and ended up having to fight Szass Tam (yes, that Szass Tam). TWICE!
But, you know, while a crazy fight, at least that was the boss fight at the end of a long companion quest. It's appropriate if I have to throw everything I got at the Lich who created the Red Wizards of Thay.
But it kinda robs that encounter of its impact if the next trash mobs consisting of some random unnamed bandit thugs you run into equally take just as much effort.

I know my BG3 PC isn't my BG1 & 2 PC, but I still feel happy knowing that Karlach's parents are enterred right next to Gorion. Like her parents and my adopted dad are buds. :)

My wife and I made a tierlist for Baldur's Gate companions.
Before you jump to your keyboards to react, we judged them based on the following criteria.
Viability in a party
Relevance to the story
Their own character story
Their romance (if applicable)
The quality of content surrounding them
They were only tiered based on games they were a companion in (so Ajantis in BG2 and Viconia in BG3 weren't considered).
And they were tiered evenly, so if they were really strong in one area but weak in the others, they were tiered lower. So S Tier is high marks in everything, while RP tier is "Literally every other character in their respective game is better than them, only take them if you're roleplaying."

In case anyone is like me and hasn't played BG1 or BG2, Mortismal Gaming has an excellent story supercut for both games that I cannot recommend highly enough.
Baldur's Gate 1
Baldur's Gate 2
