None of the XD boys are normal humans, and none of them are happy about it
[February 1, 2023]
{Newbie:}
ok so thanks to krizste i had some Ideas™️ last night for XG Remix
and now that i have had my mandatory... 6 hours of sleep? i'm ready to ramble
i've mentioned before the idea that Orremix, as i like to call it, is tucked into Ultra Space somewhere and is a mirror of GrandCol!Orre. Ultra Space explaining the weird-ass type-chart. i still think that’s true. however, i've recently come up with a new idea
the idea that glitches can devolve into Actual Pokemon... it was like, mentioned briefly as a possibility during Redux, and well. i think that's what happened in Orremix. part of the weird type-chart is Ultra Space, the other part is Glitch.
the Pokemon in Orremix are convergent species that mirror the Pokemon we know and love, but they have very, very different origins.
anyway. Shadows. Shadow-ification. and the “X-Factor”, as i like to call it.
Shadow-ification has always involved glitchstuff, to an extent. this much has always been true. it was true in GrandCol. the reason Quotes!Yuki gained the ability to see Shadow aura was because she had a NDE in RTHE of the glitch variety, and she was left far more sensitive to glitchstuff from then on as a result
but the X-Factor is Shadow-ification mixed with Nihilego toxin, because that's readily available in Ultra Space. and while toying around in Orremix, specifically, Cipher discovered something fascinating
they could tap into the previously-unknown glitchstuff origins of Orremix’s native populations
X-Pokemon... ex-Pokemon.
Pokemon that are not-quite glitches, but not-quite Pokemon anymore, either. toeing that borderline.
the Lugia we see in Orremix is probably(?) not native, however, and was shipped in from another dimension or something(?). and when they were toying around with the X-Factor on a non-Orremix Pokemon, it took a lot more dedication to get it to not only work, but get a relatively stable result that wouldn't devolve into glitchstuff and then have to be put back together
that poor lugia has probably “died” a few times, only to be reassembled... ahem. let's not worry about that right now
anyway. even though the result was still physically stable, they certainly couldn't control it. it communicates in garbled tongues and distorted cries. it doesn't understand human language. electric sonar and radio frequencies help to an extent, but it's still hit-or-miss, 7 times out of 10. it can’t be commanded, reliably.
this is where XG000 comes in.
they came up with a very special recipe of X-Factor to work on Lugia, different from the garden variety stuff they used on other Orremix Pokemon. so they take some of that special X-Factor and they tinker around with it a little more, until it's stable enough to slip into a human being. a child, which can be raised to be unquestioningly loyal to Cipher. and they go through some... er, trial and error, let's say... before the finally do it.
XG000 is a glitch-modified human. one that shares an instant, immediate connection to XG001 due to their being comprised of/corrupted by the same glitchstuff. it has a human's intelligence and a human's sentimentalities but there is a deep, intrinsic connection to the violent impulses that drive XG001.
Xavier is, of course, rescued from Cipher's clutches very soon after the modification process is finalized, and things settle down, and the glitchstuff is stabilized to go dormant without any kind of resonance to X-Factor. he's given a normal home, a normal family life, a relatively normal childhood...
he spends most of his life ignorant of what lays lurking, dormant, just beneath his skin
until Cipher shows up to kidnap Krane, and he sees an X-Pokemon for the first time. but the Voices are too loud in his head for him to notice the tingle in his fingertips until much, much later in the run
also the fact that Orremix is a glitch-infested dimension, in some way, shape, or form may explain the amnesia and power-entanglement/identity swap that happened to |root| and |CLAW|
{Haji:}
Yeah explaining in text is hard. No matter how many ways I've tried, I think I'll need to make visuals of some kind at some point [whines] but that's slooooowww
Also this is cool! I don't have a lot of ideas for Grand Colo and XG yet mostly because of the chart stuff :Joy:
Kinda funny, we've been talking a lot about Stars and Xavier lately but I wake up this morning with Alpha brain rot 😂
{Newbie:}
i actually was kinda toying around with the idea that Orremix's origins are from Alpha's Orre when it was lost to glitches :Kappa:
then it was born somehow when the universe was rebuilt :Kappa:
{Haji:}
For me that's XG :Jebaited:
{Newbie:}
ah
well not being here for XG makes me kinda not know the lore there :Keepo:
{Haji:}
Remix might be the same Orre as XG but later, but I'm still not solid on the more recent runs
And there's not a lot for XG, just my brain has a lot of connections between Stars and Michael / Alpha including I started a fic at the time with Alpha pleading with Stars not to end up like him in sort of a dream but was it a dream?
Said connection only got worse when Hacker Stars was introduced and it's like UHHHHHH well at least Host Stars had a wonderfully innocent go at Orre
{Sol:}
the way I see things basically is: there's two possible paths from XD in a timeline
a timeline where Alpha succeeds and Orre goes onto the prosper, which is where XG happens
and a timeline where Alpha fails because of just how hard Orre is breaking down, and this is where XG Remix happens
{Newbie:}
it's possible that Orremix is also mirroring XG!Orre instead of Alpha's Orre. i just wanna do something with glitches :RaccAttack:
like i'm just... i'm set on that now that i've thought it up
{Sol:}
in my head: it's entirely possible that Xavier is basically Copy Alpha???
created by a group of rogue Cipher scientists who are very much not a fan of the direction things are going, but XG000/Xavier ends in more cooperate hands, which then ends up putting XG000's existence on the radar of Krane's Lab, leading to the rescue op
{Haji:}
No reason why you can't :tppPika:
Okay so trying to keep this simple but basically the Created World was built to contain Olden. Bill ended up using it for his own purposes by tricking people like Abe and Blue to go inside with sort of gladiatorial intent which was Abe is possessed by the Voices either he's going to be stuck with them forever as nothing escapes the Divine Prison or eventually "the beast within" will devour them which will destroy the Voices. Either way, they're out of the Real / Original World for a while. Replikanto, as it was designed for Olden, is stuck in a bit of loop with worsening conditions as we see RFireRed and Moemon before the Voices are able to escape thanks in part to Alice and Amber (being in an Ultra World but gets enough god power by the end of it to create an opening to rescue Athena from the hellscape she's in). The Kanto loop is broken and stuff happens before we return to the Created World for Viet Crystal. Baba and Bet Boy meetings play a role in her eventually attacking Orre. Alpha has several cybernetic implants meant to help counter Cipher's takeover, but there's not enough knowledge on the Glitches to understand that said cybernetics could leave him open to corruption. The Voices and Glitches both seem attracted to him and in part it's because he's unknowingly (sadly, the lab knows and purposefully took advantage of knowing their world is fake but this was a greater good situation) somewhat connected to the Created World itself. Which is where his grasp on reality really starts to get screwy and gaining time control powers makes him take a questionable deal to go back in time to stop Baba and hopefully stop Cipher much earlier than his region was in danger. This fails. Multiple times.
Eventually he hunts down Abe, Baba and Sev who help get him stabilized even if he's still a bit messed up and Abe tried to take the gang with him in his escape from the world (in his perspective it's been like a few centuries at this point. He's so tired, guys) but Olden showed up basically like they're not going unless it gets to go with them because fuck this place. Encounter leads to the fallen god doing a sort of hard reset on the console bringing them all back to step one with Abe confused to be starting over and the others scattered across RepliKanto and Johto but keeping tabs on this Evan kid who they all KNOW wasn't there before
Details details, things do work out eventually and the world goes on as it should be.
XG is quite a LOOOONG time later in both the Real World and the Created World but things are getting scary when we've a doomsday cult forming in Kalos and facing things like the events of RandY, Storm Silver, and Sword where the glitches are running en mass, the dead seem to be walking, the awakening of The Darkest Day??? Not a great place to be right now so the different regions start looking to where they can send their people/preserve their way of life by any means leading to a lot of bad decisions. Including people of Orre realizing there's another Orre inside the machine and somehow Hacker Stars gets roped into / is egotistical enough to volunteer to stay in the Real World and manage things to keep everyone else safe. Splitting off part of himself was to help monitor things from the inside but.... Something seems to have gone wrong.
This probably lines up with Colo / XD were originally in the timeline before Olden did the reset. So guess who else is back? Cipher.
To make matters worse, the part of Stars inside the world doesn't seem to have any connection with his other half, so he has NO IDEA what's going on but know what? That's good because he's got talent and friends and going after Cipher and living a pretty normal life. Hacker Stars is... Probably running on autopilot at this time to be honest. He's broken and practically hooked up to the machine, but he's still managing to keep things relatively stable, he's just unable to do anything to protect everyone as he said he would. But he can watch as Stars takes care of things and it seems seeing his other half in action awakens something in him.
No idea if / when / how the two get back together but at least after the mountain encounter they're aware of each other. I wanna say it's not until Xavier is able to defeat Hacker Stars though he can be free to get his life back together
So um, yeah. That's somehow the short version :tppPika:
The sad thing is, I'm not sure if Alpha tried to make contact with Hacker Stars or saw what Cipher was doing and reached out to Host Stars, because if it's the former, WELP! CAN'T SAY HE DIDN'T WARN HIM but if it's the latter, uh.... Too late

//yet another rotomblr blog from @shinyzubats //
(Character info under cut)
Hello....I'm Kiki (he/it), 30 years old, did you know there's pokemon the normal person doesn't even know exist? I am a self proclaimed 'missing number' and 'glitch' pokemon expert, having officialy and properly studied these creatures since my late teens, though ive been encountering them since i was younger. I will not be revealing where I currently live, what I have done to obtain these pokemon, nor the names of anyone i know in real life. Though I am originally from Cinnabar Island, where I first encountered a 'missing number'
I assume I should tell you about my team now.
Javascript the Charmander, lvl 85 - yes she is a Charmander, no I will not be revealing why she looks like a bulbasaur, yes she is still a fire type, no she cannot evolve.
HTML the Nidoking, lvl 100 - yes he is really level 100. He is also incredibly shy, please do not send mail with the intent to scare him. It's a shame I even have to ask that
C the Gengar, lvl 285 - he is lvl 285, why is that so hard to believe? I don't really see him often as he likes to watch from the shadows.
Mewthree the Mew, lvl 1 - I am not entirely sure this is a mew, despite what the pokedex tells me. Sounds like a zapdos and only knows transform. Rather sweet which is surprising.
Perl the ???, lvl unknown - a 'missing number' taking the form of a ghost, I don't know it's specific classification nor its level, it is not registered to me yet follows me around very closely.
BAD EGG the egg, no lvl - this was once a breloom named Python, I am unsure what happened to cause Python to revert back to her egg state, nor why she is registered as 'bad egg' but I hope to rehatch her soon.
Pokemon NOT in my battle team ;
Lola the Zubat, lvl 5 - a jolly natured zubat with a lack of teeth, shes new around the house but seems to really like to sit on my head..
Milo the Zubat, lvl 5 - a calm natured zubat, like Lola he's new, he seems to really like napping and likes to ride around on HTML to nap..
//tags and such I use under here

Would you recommend ScarVio for someone who stopped playing around Sun and Moon? I was going to skip it due to bare endgame and looking like a game made in crunch time, but the DLC sounding very promising and fun (And there is a discount going on).
No.
...okay, I want to just leave it at that, but I literally can't shut up so let me explain.
If you are interested in Scarlet and Violet, I think there are a few questions that need to be answered.
First: Why did you stop at SuMo? I feel like this is the biggest question, because Gen 7 is smack in the middle of the GarbAge of the series, and a lot of things did not improve from that era. Specifically, a lot of people in that era started to hit the "these games are to easy" assessment, due to EXP Share being a thing, and the general backpedaling of well-designed challenges. ScarVio is possibly the worst offender of "Too easy" the series has. It's so bad that I think many of the criticisms levied against specific fights as being "too easy" are mis-attributed to things like poor team design, when the real problem is it's piss-easy to accidentally over-level by like 20 levels and shit-stomp the entire game. But, another issue is the constant start and stop for story beats and being push through plot sequences with literally no deviation in path. ScarVi is actually better about this than I want to give credit for. You can do things in any order you want, and because the specific events are highlighted, very little prevents you from playing for hours just running around catching things or battling trainers. The caveat being, none of these challenges scale based on what you've already done, and the indication of intended order isn't clear until you've beaten things, with late and early gym levels being really close together in a way that makes it really, really easy to be over-prepared.
Second: How well do you tolerate visual glitches and poor performance? This is one that broke a friend of mine, he cannot play this game because it agitates him so much. And by these issues, I mean not just things won't render, I mean the screen will be like a strobe lighting effect as shadows glitch in and out of reality in the cliffs, the game will absolutely chug and jutter anywhere near a body of water, etc. I didn't have issues that actually impeded gameplay, but performance is BAD. I'll fully admit this isn't something that bothers me as bad as most. I think it's inexcusable for a company as well off as Pokemon Company to not produce something to quality, but I'm personally more annoyed about the lack of good design for major battles or proper level scaling.
Third: How do you like open-world? Are you a BotW/TotK fan? If so, I don't get it, but maybe this is your speed. But if you look at open-world like man, I'm sinking a ton of time into this to not even get that far, and a lot of these regions feel kind of exactly the same? That's the vibe of the game. I do think Pokemon handles it a little better than something like modern Zelda, if only due to greater variety in creatures you encounter, but Dexit did limit how much variety we're actually dealing with, so...
Fourth, and perhaps most significantly: What have you heard from the DLC that makes it sound good? If it's story content, you are correct! The story and characters in this game are pretty good for Pokemon. If it's gameplay related, find better friends/news sources, because it's just the same problems as the main game.
I cannot in good conscience recommend ScarVi, because realistically, the game itself isn't enjoyable. While I generally push for good story and character, games exist so you play the game, and if playing the game is mostly wandering aimlessly trying to find trainers to fight to get a little reward, just to wind up being over-leveled for the actual boss encounters, or god forbid, trying to do the god-awful raids? It's not worth it, and that's literally all there is to do post-game. Even with the DLC, you finish the DLC and guess what! Raids are all you have left. "But what about the school tournament you can do again?" Incredibly boring, because everything is still super low level and unthreatening. "What about the super battle fights in the DLC?" They're definitely tougher, and this game at least gives you the tools you need to perfectly EV train Pokemon unlike BDSP, but if you know how to do that stuff they're not that hard, and if you don't, don't worry, you're probably still over-leveled and it'll take like 15 minutes to beat them all once you look up where they are, because let me tell you, trying to hunt things down in big open world map sucks shit and no one should do it.
The only good in the game is story and character, and not all of the story is really worth it. I'd personally argue the majority of it would be entirely skippable barring like one or two pieces of background for the rivals to contextualize The Way Home, which is the good part. If that's what you're after, just watch someone play it on youtube. It'll take an hour or so. But I wouldn't encourage someone to waste this kind of money, even on whatever discount they're offering, for such a glitched-out disaster of a fairly mediocre game experience, just because some of the story stuff seems fun.

Pokemon Violet
I'm not exaggerating when I say that Pokemon is my favorite series of all time. Out of all of the games that I've ever owned, I've played and replayed pokemon the most. While I was a little behind on the games since I was born in 95 and they came out 96, I still have my original blue and yellow copies, and yes they still work! My favorite region is Hoenn but I love all of the games, and I have a copy of each game from each gen (Mostly since I was lonely so had to trade between myself)
Spoilers below for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
For me, the game's graphics aren't a big deal. I don't really care about graphics if the story is good. So I won't talk about that.
Story wise, I love it! The world is so big and open, and going on a treasure hunt to make your own path? It makes the game unique on a whole different level from the previous games. The characters aren't all happy go lucky or downright awful, they feel like real people. They have strengths and flaws. Like Nemona, I used to focus only on my first six as a kid, whatever team I got early game was my team for the whole game, and so I can relate to Nemona not catching as many pokemon. Plus like I seen a couple of people say, she does kinda remind me of Ash, but then again she's already a champion, or so they call her a champion level student. I am glad Ash finally won a tournament, two I believe?
Arven on the other hand, I'm not overly fond of. Sure, he had his cute moments like saying he made the sandwich just for your character. But the fact that he just abandoned Miraidon on us left a sour taste in my mouth, like the Charmander's trainer in the anime way back when. But I've only gotten to one of the Titans so far, so I'll reserve my full judgement for later. Like I said, he does have his cute moments, but overall, I feel meh about him.
Team Star, I haven't gotten around to getting to one of their bases yet, but I do like the concept that they aren't just using one type of pokemon like other regional villains. Plus, they do seem like they're just kids who joined an organization they thought was good and would help them get prestige in school. They're not on the level of Team Skull to me yet, since Team Skull basically made themselves a home and family when they were rejected by everyone else, these kids seem to just want to bully people. But I'm just getting to the first base now, so we'll see.
And now the pokemon. This time around, there's so many new and interesting pokemon! From who was brought in from previous generations to the brand new pokemon and regional variations. I have not really spoiled myself too much on evolutions, just looking to see how some evolve. I chose Sprigatito as my partner, and so far may keep on Shroodle and Flittle. I also was able to get myself a Goomy, a pokemon I never had the chance to raise. But I also saw there was an evolution for Primape. Just have to wait and see how my team grows!
A couple of things I don't like: How small the pokemon are when I'm just trying to ride around on Miraidon. Like yes, it's cute and adorable, but there are times where I just want to go to where I see a thing and run into a Pichu or something and my pokemon's health is already low. I also found a couple of places you could get stuck, like in the first town I just wanted to see if I could go down an alleyway. It stopped me, I turned around to go back and nope. I thankfully could fast travel, but that's something that shouldn't happen in the first place imo. One graphical thing that bothers me a lot to put here is the shadows. They glitch in and out and I get distracted when trying to pick up a glowing spot and have to go back to see if I actually got it.
I'm still playing the game, so I'll post another one when I got about half of the things done. There's just so much to do!

Heya! I'm Yugi, I'm an alter in a DID system, and I made myself a blog! I've been here since almost the very beginning of us, so I've got a little experience you could say, handling system life.
My main interests are:
- Yu-Gi-Oh, the card game and the anime/manga, especially the Duel Monsters era arc
- Pokemon, especially classic games and romhacks
- card games in general
- games in general! Especially late 90's early 2000's games.
- vaporwave aesthetics
- Alternative music
- Ancient history, especially Ancient Egypt
BYF/DNI :
I follow back and interact from @pepsiwatermelon ! Please keep in mind that my disorder makes my memory problems quite frankly extreme, so please be patient with me. If you want me to unfollow permanently,it's safer to block or let me know, because I absolutely will forget otherwise, or assume Tumblr glitched and unfollowed you by accident. I also don't expect the people on my DNI list to actually abide by it. I see it both as a boundary list, as a way to let others know where I stand on certain issues.
Do not interact if:
-bog standard bigot (racist, misogynist, homophobe, transphobe, ECT)
- TERF/Gendercrit/Radfem (including if you run a "secret side blog"
-Use things like r/fakedisordercringe or fakeclaim
-Transmedicalists
-Are an endogenic system or heavily interact with endogenic systems (I like to keep my spaces DID/OSDD focused, by their own claims endogenics need vastly different things than DID systems and I do not want to share spaces with people who identify as endogenic)
- Identify as a pro-shipper (pedophilia is fucking gross! Get away from me!) Enjoyers of dark media and content welcome! There's a huge difference between people who like stories about messed up or dark stuff, and people who sexualize minors or romanticize incest and abuse.
-Are anti bisexuality OR anti pansexuality. Why are we fighting we should kiss each other.
-Have an icon relating to the band ICP, or heavily post about them untagged (personal reasons, they aren't problematic to my knowledge)
Sorry about that big list of rules, but I figured it would be good for an intro post here!
TLDR: I'm a fictive, I love games, DNI if you're a bigot or an endo, and proshippers get sent to the shadow realm.

Duxgame
In the late 80s, when the concept of video games started booming, not many could've predicted what will gaming be like in 2020. There was a time when so many different hardware and equipment were required to run one game properly. On top, people were spending a fortune on TVs, games, and a proper setup to play a game that won't last thirty minutes. Comparing that to today, things have changed so much.
RELATED: 10 PlayStation 2 Games That Still Look Amazing In 2020
Many people are now spending hundreds of hours on video games, right from their mobile phones while lying in bed. People can even play what was once console games, right from the comfort of their internet browser. Duxgame.com also provides the good stuff.
advertising
10 Pac-Man
PAC-MAN first arrived in the market in the 1980s. The game is a Maze arcade title that was once one of the best games in the world. It was later released on home consoles and many other systems as well. But finally, the title can be played right from the browser in one of its most creative forms ever. Players can try out World's Biggest PAC-MAN here and enjoy an endless array of custom levels, all free to play and enjoy. The best part, the game works 100% flawlessly right from the browser.
9 Doom
The original Doom from 1993 will always be a cult-classic and for an excellent reason. The game took the first-person shooter genre into another dimension and gave players the freedom to explore hell. The over-the-top nature of violence in this title was very much appreciated. In fact, this was probably one of the biggest titles in the 90s with so much blood and gore. This is also the reason why the newer Doom games follow the same path. Original Doom is playable in the browser here.
8 Wolfenstein 3D
Wolfenstein has to be the granddaddy of every first-person shooter that came after. This is the title that made FPS games bearable when the world was full of 2D platformers and RPGs. While this might certainly look dated visually, it can still be enjoyed quite a bit. To anyone who wants to experience the evolution of games, this is the perfect title to play. The game can also be played right from the browser here, so not much reason to say no to this.
7 Sid Meier’s Civilization 1 & 2
Released in 1991 and 1996 respectively, Sid Meier's Civilization 1 and 2 are probably not the games for everyone. However, they are the best few games to play for strategy and turn-based tactics fans. Civilization games are quite honestly the pillars on which the genre of strategy games stands today.
RELATED: 10 90s RPGs With Lengthy Main Stories (& How Long They Take To Beat)
So there shouldn't be a shadow of the doubt as to why one should play this, especially since they can be played right from the browser here, without even installing.
6 Diablo
Many RPG fans might remember purchasing Diablo games on discs, only to install them slowly on a computer with 8MB ram. Comparing that to now, Diablo does need to be installed at all. It can directly be loaded from online servers here. Diablo series is easily one of the best RPGs to play, and even with their age, they are so full of details. Blizzard's hack and slash RPG has it all, from a single player to a fully functional multiplayer. Now that is commendable for the time.
5 Counter-Strike 1.6
If Wolfenstein was the granddaddy of FPS titles, Counter-Strike is the first-person shooter multiplayer game's granny. This is one of the best shooters in the market that are still played to this day. Obviously, being such an old title, there must be a way of playing this without any hassle.
RELATED: 10 90s Shooters With Lengthy Campaigns (& How Long They Take To Beat)
Well, luckily there is, and that is called the cs-online club. The game can be directly launched from here and only needs to be loaded once, even on a low-end computer.
4 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Now, obviously, most retro 2d games from the Nintendo Entertainment System are easily available to play via emulators. But why download a whole different software to play these games when they easily boot online. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and many games like this can be played directly from the browser here. This is a must for retro fans, as they will no longer have to mess with downloading emulators, ROMs, bios, and whatnot.
3 Fallout
Another classic RPG that once required people to install a full disc onto the computer to play is now playable online in just a few taps. The Fallout comes from 1997 and has always been a PC exclusive. This is why not a lot of gamers have played the older titles. This is also because they are not easily available to everyone. However, things couldn't have been better because now the original Fallout can be played right from the browser.
2 Super Mario Bros.
This game has to be on the top of the list because of its sheer significance. Super Mario Bros. was released in 1985, and since then, many brothers and sisters to the game have released. However, the original remains one of the best console games of its time and one of the most famous. Luckily the game is easily available to play online and should cheer up everyone who decides to play this.
1 Stadia
While Stadia isn't just one game, it is an amalgamation of plenty of heavy-duty titles. It has games such as Destiny 2, PUBG, and Borderlands 3, which are directly playable right from the servers. The best part is, people who aren't so much into high-end gaming and purchasing expensive hardware, will find this way of playing games super easy. Since modern titles and technologies are still growing, it is not fair to assume the experience will be flawless. However, slowly and steadily it's shaping up.

Yuu, the glitched-out shadow of Mt. Battle, and Forrest
[February 3, 2023]
{Newbie:}
good morning! who’s ready for a lore ramble? :HYPERRACC:
ok so. it kinda hit me last night when i was drafting up stuff for the tumblr. the origin of glitches as corrupted remnants of lost worlds. Forrest's vendetta in VW2Redux. the host battles.
the four heavenly kings.
now, the first three, it makes sense. Sky dealt with invisible "ghosts" in Storm Silver. Karma meddled with space-time thanks to the Red Chain. Stars has his origins as a duplicate of a prominent hacker. them all being in Unova makes sense, in the grand scheme of Forrest's arc.
but Yuu? what on earth does Yuu have in common with these three? and why is he the final opponent?
well, here's why:
i think Yuu figured out the origin of the glitches.
first off: in my GrandCol lore, i differentiate between Mt Memento (story mode Mt Battle) and Mt Battle (battle mode Mt Battle). Mt Memento is the "real" mountain in GrandCol!Orre, and Mt Battle exists in this sort of sub-reality state.
what i was originally going with: Mt Memento was sacred ground, but became corrupted, and ended up mass-spawning Shadow Pokemon (which existed prior to Cipher, and Cipher later figured out how to recreate the process). this is why countermeasures like the Time Flutes and the Relic Stone exist. Mt Memento was designated to be purified by ascetic Memento-using Pokemon. Mt Battle, meanwhile, is an echo of the pre-corrupted Mt Memento.
but. Shadow-ification has its origins in glitchstuff. and if the echoes of remnant timelines can result in glitches... does that extend to more than just living things?
what about... places?
let's say, perhaps, that battle mode!Mt Battle is in fact a pre-timeline-reset Mt Memento. a big fragment filled with displaced trainers and pokemon that got stuck on the walls of Orre's reality, overlapping Mt Memento, and is slowly rotting into glitchhood and bogging all of Orre down with it?
(Yuki--who i lore to be Quotes, and hyper-senstitive to glitchstuff after her multiple NDEs with glitches in RTHE--was always a bit unnerved by Mt Memento. it's because she could feel the Void pressing in closer and closer and closer...)
by the time GrandCol rolls around, the situation is becoming more dire. the matrix glitch? the crash at the Relic Stone? the walking glitch we managed to perform in Agate? yeah, that was Mt Battle. that was Mt Battle decaying further and further and further and the Void starting to seep in through reality’s seams.
(the Relic Stone sits right on the cusp of reality's fibers, like a stitch along a seam, a cornerstone to timelines. and through it, the decay was oozing into Agate Town, little by little.)
the Voices' goal, first and foremost, is to reach Ho-Oh and help Quotes revive her fallen team. but Ho-Oh returned to Orre because shit was going to go down. Ho-Oh doesn't usually revive the dead outside of very dire situations, but it'll make an exception if the Voices can beat back the glitch mountain slowly sinking into Orre’s foundations and threatening to capsize the entire region.
so they part reality like a curtain and arrive at this derelict, half-formed mountainous shape. they construct themselves a ramp using their reality bullshit powers and ascend to the top, trying to physically beat it back, trying to push it as far away from Orre as they can manage and hopefully detach it from the walls of reality before it can wear a hole.
"Do you want to take a break?" we were asked, constantly, during the trek. because the Voices had to stop and manifest another section of the path each time. if they could have marched through interrupted, they would have. but they had to stop at the end of every battle or else Yuu would have walked right off the edge into nothingness. and they had to win constantly or else they would be overwhelmed and forced to retreat for their own self-preservation.
at first, Yuu doesn't quite understand the minutiae of what's going on. he's not versed in glitches, or cosmic bullshit, and knows nothing about reset timelines. he does know that his job is to battle myriad opponents and trek up a mountain (hey, didn't we just do that??) in order to get Ho-oh's help. he doesn't ask the questions he should have before agreeing, which in hindsight wasn't the smartest decision...
now. Yuu is brash, and impulsive, and stubborn, and arrogant. but. he's not stupid. and he's not blind. and it isn't long before he realizes something is very, very wrong.
at first, the trainers he faced didn't seem too off. their coloration was a bit dull, and there was a tinny whine when they spoke, and a slight jerkiness in the way they moved, but they didn;t otherwise act out of the ordinary. these were the trainers at the lower levels who were still ignorant of their situation.
but the further up he went, the more wrong things became. the trainers start to more and more resemble the "shadow boys" we saw in Star. black, featureless humanoids save for glowing red eyes, mostly stable silhouettes, still capable of speech. their pokemon seem normal at first glance, but their moves are Wrong (Drill Run Kadabra, Triple Axel Altaria, etc.) and they don't quite move correctly, and those too become increasingly more and more warped in their proportions and movements the further up you go.
by the time Yuu reaches the top of Mt Battle, he's furiously interrogating the Voices.
the Voices struggle to give straight answers, or at the very least a satisfying one. so he goes through Mt Battle a second time to get his own (the Singles gauntlet). it's along the way that he learns about the resets, and Mt Battle's origins, and the people and pokemon that are slowly descending into glitchhood, and how he and his own team are only protected from the same fate because he’s the current host and the Voices can bullshit almost anything.
almost anything. even the Voices know better than to stay in the Void too long.
it's in the middle of Yuu arguing that they need to do something--what do you mean they're beyond help, they can't just leave these people here in this state, there has to be some way to save them--that the Voices yank him out. they did their job and detached the mountain from Orre's reality-walls and it's going to sink safely into the Void now. and when Yuu wakes up, he's at Mt Memento’s peak with Ho-Oh peering over him, and his head is silent for the first time in months.
Orre is stable again. Mt Memento is deemed purified. Ho-Oh keeps its promise and revives Quotes's fallen Pokemon. all is right.
...if only Yuu could let that be enough.
see. Yuu never wanted to be the hero. he was grudgingly forced into the whole "savior" role by the Voices. but... bring the Shadow Pokemon back into themselves, restoring their sense of selfhood... that felt good. and goddammit, he keeps thinking about the victims on the mountain, contorting into nonexistence, and...
the reality-reset that created Mt Battle was... recent. Yuu has no idea what to do with this information. he's in Alola, checking out the new league that Quotes told him about, when some grouchy ex-IP officer who smells like a Meowth pissed on his clothes mentions a "glitch-hunter" branch stationed in Unova.
and well... it's as good a place to start as any.
Yuu arrives in Unova--and then takes a detour at the PWT, because he's Yuu and he loves battling and he loves the spotlight. for some reason, the opponents he faces are vaguely familiar to him, their names flashing through his mind even though he's sure he's never seen them before...
(cough cough leftover Voice knowledge cough cough moving on)
and then on the final stage, he meets a kid with a very familiar aura humming around him--an invisible ripple in the air, and soft chattering you wouldn't hear unless you knew the sound of it all too well.
and too-bright eyes that remind Yuu of the shadow silhouettes and their luminous glares.
Forrest, as the new host introduces himself later, is glitch that got stuffed into a makeshift human body and is searching for a way to make this body permanent. he's very candid about it, probably because Yuu is an ex-host and has seen his own fair share of weirdness, and probably is less likely to be phased by such a confession. which, y'know, isn't incorrect.
but then Yuu has to go and wonder aloud, "So like... did you look like this before or...?"
Forrest furrows his brows. the Voice-aura around him undulates uneasily. "Huh?"
"Like..." Yuu gesticulates vaguely. "Before you, like, became--"
"I didn't look like anything before," Forrest cuts in, not unkindly.
"Yeah. But like. I meant before that."
"There is no before?"
"There had to have been."
"I don’t follow."
Yuu blinks, and shoves his hands into his pockets, and stares. "You don't know, do you."
"Know what?"
"Where they came from. The glitches. You."
"...What are you talking about."
Yuu massages his forehead, and curses the day the Voices crashed into his skull, because goddammit, they turned him into too much of a decent person to ignore the uneasy trepidation pooling in the kid's too-luminous eyes.
"Alright. You, uh. Might wanna sit down for this..."
