Bumsopp and the Burden of Masculinity
(part 2 TL;DR)
Tumblr media
Yet, the hypocrisy runs deep. The one area where Usopp gets a shred of sympathy is when people talk about his dad, Yasopp. Almost everyone agrees Yasopp’s a deadbeat, and suddenly Usopp’s understandable. Why? Why is that the one part of Usopp’s story that deserves empathy? It says a lot about how masculinity is viewed in this demographic. Somehow, the only time Usopp’s humanized is when he’s dealing with daddy issues. But why is that the only thing people can connect with? What does it say about the larger narrative surrounding masculinity?
It’s as if Usopp, who’s open about his fears and insecurities, challenges what a “real man” should be, and the fandom, in turn, projects this toxic idea of masculinity onto him. He’s not the big macho man like Yasopp or Zoro, so he gets reduced to a joke. But what intrigues me is that some people, particularly those who’ve faced struggles like bullying, start to connect with Usopp as they grow older. They shift from liking Zoro’s bravado to identifying with Usopp’s vulnerability. What does that say? Does it take maturity, therapy, or simply a change in environment to finally accept the parts of yourself that align with Usopp?
Tumblr media
There’s a lot of hypocrisy in the fandom when it comes to Usopp. Popular characters with powers and big muscles get a pass for their flaws, but Usopp is held to this impossible standard. It’s unfair and telling. Why is he only worth sympathy when it comes to Yasopp? Why can’t Usopp be seen as a fully realized character with complexity beyond that? It makes me wonder if, for many in the fandom, Usopp represents everything they’ve been taught to avoid: vulnerability, fear, and anything that challenges traditional masculinity. And because of that, they’ll keep calling him “Bumsopp” without ever understanding the deeper layers of his character.

Jujutsu Kaisen Returns with Trailer for Shibuya Incident Arc
Image: Studio MAPPA/Toho Animation Jujutsu Kaisen’s second season has been airing since July, and its first batch of episodes focused on then-young Jujutsu Sorcerers Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. Those flashback episodes highlighted how close the pair were and the mission that ultimately drove them apart to being on opposite sides as seen throughout the show’s original season and last year’s…

One of the reasons I love the webcomic Kaiten Mutenmau season 2 is that it does not overlook the toxic personality traits and actions of a character, even if they have reasons beyond being just evil.
Sick Valachlorophenol, the main antagonist, is a prime example of this. The webcomic shows in extensive detail the damage Sick causes to the world by preying on innocent people and perpetuating a cycle of corruption through Abominable Crystals. Sick refers to the monsters he creates as "friends," but their relationships are exploitative and lack genuine care. He promises to save them and fulfill their hopes and dreams, but they end up trapped in toxic and self-serving behavior, which hinders their ability to grow and form meaningful connections with others. The narrative also illustrates how several of Sick's victims manage to break free from his toxic influence and find happiness on their own, effectively disproving his methods.
Near the end of the webcomic, Sick is revealed to have an immensely sympathetic backstory. Sick was a young child trapped in a horrible situation and didn't choose to become a monster in the first place. However, the narrative doesn't overemphasize how sad Sick is or justify his ideology and actions just because he was once a victim. Mutenmaru feels sympathy for Sick but points out that Sick's actions are unacceptable. Sick dies in the end because, unlike Kid, he rejects Mutenmaru's kindness and insists on remaining a monster. After Kid saves the world from Sick's toxic influence, every living character moves on from his memory. Eryth and Ritol Morte do not take a moment to remember Sick, despite their previous status as his primary minions and the fact that he saved their lives when they were poor children and no one else cared about them. This highlights that Sick's influence on the sisters was toxic and that he never formed meaningful connections with others.

Bumsopp and the Burden of Masculinity
(TL;DR) pt. 1
Tumblr media
disclaimer: This post reflects my personal interpretation and connection with Usopp's character. I understand that not everyone may share the same perspective, and that's okay. This is just my own take based on my experiences and thoughts about identity and representation.
Another thought I’ve had about Usopp in the context of shōnen is worth addressing. Usopp is often treated as just a meme, which is frustrating because he’s clearly more complex than that. I don’t get why people assume that’s why Usopp has fans, as if his popularity is just a joke. I’ve been reading a book recently that got me thinking about One Piece as a shōnen series, and it’s a genre designed for young boys. Yet, there’s a noticeable polarization when it comes to Usopp's reception, which I recently argued with someone about (no surprise there).
The truth is, Usopp often gets dehumanized—or at the very least, dismissed. Before anyone argues that other characters face similar treatment, I’d like to point out that Usopp’s situation is unique. He’s a real outlier. People call him a coward, a liar, not part of the monster trio, and they love to point out how often he runs away. So, to them, Usopp is weak, a sissy, fodder who should’ve died long ago, right? After all, Oda must hate him, right? This kind of thinking is widespread. People think Usopp was an unforgivable jerk during Water 7, and the idea is that he should’ve groveled to the crew after Enies Lobby in some exaggerated, pathetic way. The subtext is clear: Usopp should be grateful they even let him stay after such an “unforgivable” act.
And then, the same fandom hypes up other characters, allowing them all sorts of leeway. Luffy is expected to always be the indomitable captain, able to punch his way out of anything, and Usopp’s moments of vulnerability, like crying over Merry, are seen as laughable. Usopp was meant to be left behind, right? He’s “Bumsopp,” after all, crying over a ship like it’s some joke.

🌑Espionage and Assassins: Twilight's Confrontation with Garden.🌑
*Manga spoilers alert*
From chapter 2 of Spy x family we were introduced to Yor,the deadly assassin and her mysterious Shopkeeper, the person who has the mindset to purge Ostania of traitors within the land of Ostania. What strikes intriguing is alsoo is how with precision to identify and track them down.No one can ever escape,no matter how many and what sort of bodyguards he/she would call to!
Below:chapter 2 Yor strikes.👩‍🏫
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So for Shopkeeper and the organization Garden things are politics tied up with intence morals, not codes made up for profits.
Evidently garden has its own intelligence agency:Skilled personel ,true masters on the arts of collecting data, verifying them, and finally knowing with accuracy about who, where is the scumbugg that soils Ostania(no joke).
Tumblr media
🕵️‍♂️ Below:chapter 43.The first time of an image of the Assassins organization "Garden" .It's when twilight surprisingly listens from Franky that Garden is entirely real, and at least one operative is Fiercely strong to wipe out an entire military squad!🤫👩‍🏫
Tumblr media
See Below: It's of episode 29: "The Informant's Great Romance Plan II" Probably Endo sensei decided to add more assassins into their roster.Hmm the woman down, with the kane is very likely an Asian, she wears a chinese cheongsam.
Tumblr media
On chapter 44 Shopkeeper calls Yor ,with liaison the director of Policy on City hall of Berlin,mr Mathew McMahon.
On the arc "Princess Lorelei Cruizship" Thorn Princess and Mr McMahon brought down an entire army of assassins:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Below: This hasn't stop to push me wonder:
Listen up Twilight: You may never know when they'll begin secretly watching you.
It's a distressing issue:Agent Twilight has fake wife the lethal assassin Thorn Princess.Who's with the unshaken loyalty to the organization "Garden". The Intelligent Shopkeeper replies with this "Did He now?", once he listened from Yor Loid's interest on the Desmond family ,and the National Union party.
Tumblr media
It's more like the Shopkeeper is about to closely monitor Loid, because he sees it strange that the humble psychiatrist is interested on the national unity party. He can do it with ease!
"It's all right for a good parent put his child to the prestigious Eden College. But why would psychiatrist Forger be so interested,to make connections with the politician Desmond? Is he backed by someone ? Does he have a sinister plan to carry out?Would he harm our country? ".Such things the Shopkeeper might ponder.
Will Twilight manage to keep his identity and activities secret from Garden? Can Garden deduce he's a Spy from the west? Will it come a conflict between them?
Here below things that Garden would set under scroutiny, and might even connect in a proper way the dots:
a)Loid's interest for the national unity party.
b)Fiona's urgent phone call:"Emergency chart number 1399.Please make your way to the hospital,at once". His immediate departure ,from a heated argue with Yor,can raise eyebrows. Yor didn't see it,but Yuri saw it was off. Let's keep in mind his absence for the whole day.
c)Loid's deducive skills on the lodge, where he uncovered the ploys of the evil lodge owner,Rodger Hostman.Chapter 94. Normally a spy should never attract any attention.
Loid kun,you made it to track down, get and proove the vile man's guilty. But was there any hidden cost of it?
Tumblr media
d)The certainly Expenssive dress of Anya, for the Eden gala. Its cost:5000 Dalc. "Why can this last alert Garden?" They'll ponder that no way a mere psychiatrist can afford such dress, unless he's much more he seems to be.
While it's difficult to predict the exact actions and perceptions of Garden towards Loid Forger, also known as Twilight, here are some possibilities:
Suspicion and Conflict: Given Twilight's covert activities as a spy and his involvement in high-stakes missions, it's possible that Garden may view him with suspicion or perceive him as a potential threat. If Garden becomes aware of Twilight's activities or suspects his true identity, it could lead to conflict between them.
Recognition as a Spy: Garden's operatives are likely skilled in intelligence gathering and may possess the ability to deduce Twilight's true identity as a spy from the West. If Garden uncovers Twilight's secret, it could lead to a confrontation between him and the organization.
Manipulation and Intrigue: Alternatively, Garden may attempt to manipulate Twilight or exploit his skills for their own purposes. This could involve leveraging Twilight's abilities as a spy or attempting to turn him against his allies.
Alliance or Mutual Interest: Depending on the circumstances, there may be opportunities for cooperation or mutual benefit between Twilight and Garden. If their goals align or if there is a common enemy, they may temporarily set aside their differences to achieve their objectives.
Ultimately, the dynamic between Twilight and Garden depends on various factors, including their respective agendas, motivations, and the evolving plot of "Spy x Family." As the story unfolds, readers may see how Twilight navigates the dangers posed by organizations like Garden and how his actions shape the course of events.

First Reactions Praise Netflix Adaptation
Image: Netflix Next week, the live-action adaptation of One Piece finally sets sail, and it wouldn’t be wrong to say it has a lot to live up to. Eiichiro Oda’s shonen series has grown in popularity (and length) over the years, and this show is coming off the back of a recent theatrical movie and some substantial events that have happened over in its anime series. Not to mention that the track…
