Donnie put a hand on them, feeling for the sticky residue of sap at his fingertips. If his touch faltered at a tree for even a second, he’d leave it off for another week.

He knew he wasn’t good at a lot of things, it was obvious from the pity those kids at the orphanage sent Frankie’s way. Donnie’s hand slid up and down the zipper of his leather jacket as he thought about it. Donnie was the hand full, the screw up, the twitch. If only those ankle-biters could see him now. He’s got his uses, even if they’re only pine tree-related.

I just finished writing this and I had a grand old time writing 1950s New York brothers! I gave Donnie some hobbies and expanded on their story before the events of the play :D

having lots of thoughts about the 'Ballet on the Battlefield' alternate universe where only Alexa got out, and she had to leave Janusz behind

he was at the window, you know.

he had everything prepared, because he knew Alexa. he knew she'd come back, but before he could get out, Madame Romanoff got there first.

you really should've seen the look on Alexa's face, too! she was already flying away, but that girl never knew what was good for her and now just look at all the trouble she's gotten her little friend into.

Alexa also always struggled with decisions, but one look at Janusz' face and- she couldn't hear him, but she pretended that he was telling her to leave.

it's what he would've wanted, and that's what she tells herself as she turns her back.

Janusz won't realise this until years later when he still works at the same ballet school, is raising his own mini-Janusz, and is watching day-by day, as the once powerful Madame Romanoff has started to fade away- but Alexa always had a suitcase in her hand.

in all honesty, he should've known that when it all came to it at the end, she would do what's best for herself. Petrova always told him so, and that woman was like Alexa's mother.

once, his son (Fyodor) sneaks into the main school, and is found in front of the television: eyes starry; mouth agape; speechless- which was strange for him. when Madame Romanoff drags him back to the help's quarters, he tells Janusz everything he saw.

she was beautiful. swan-like grace (but didn't really do a lot of the traditional French ballet moves, and 'papa, i thought zat all of ze ballerinas had to do zese fancy moves!!') and suddenly Janusz was seven years old again, and the window was wide open.

it had never been closed, only pulled-to with the curtains covering it.

for the first time in a while, Janusz heard the birds again.

just some thoughts after watching sfth’s (as of now) latest longform

i totally thought that “death for a dollar” was ending with one of those sort of ramble-y bits that kinda just sort of comes to an end (hey, they’re doing improv, the fact that any improv story is coherent is astounding to me), but then they hit you with the fuckin Unreliable Narrator, wife fakes her death to live with her love, father tries to get close to his son without revealing that he’s the son’s father, like DANG. really love that type of ending that makes you wanna watch the whole thing again just to see it through the perspective you get at the end. plus, the way this whole story was told through flashbacks was really cool! it’s a really interesting way to keep the longforms fresh for both the audience and the performers. it almost looked like it was a series of mini improv scenes in their with how the settings changed, but the narrator’s younger self stays the same and has to go along with what the present-day narrator is doing. i mean, that’s just a weird description of improv, but like it’s interesting seeing two people trying to portray the same character at two different times at his life simultaneously.

also ive low key worried that because of their newer stuff that gets more meta (their sfth dnd campaign/connected universe thing) that we wouldnt be getting any more fun original characters, but this longform just goes to show that i gotta stop underestimating them like that

Let me begin by saying that I love you /p for asking this and I'm forever in your debt. Like I'd lay my life down at your feet mate.

Dear Ak: Do you like improv-based groups of 4 queerbaity nerds who sometimes play dnd? Where I'd normally be speaking of the absurdly powerful podcast JRWI, today I am referencing Shoot From the Hip! They're a british improv comedy group that

Shoot From the Hip consists of 4 comedians: AJ, Luke, Sam, and Tom. They're listed in left to right order from the picture below.

AJ: chronically confused, bald, adorable -- the gabber of the group. He used to teach public speaking. Sometimes he says things and then forgets what he's talking about. Sometimes he just puts words together. All of the time, he is being the best version of himself that could exist.

Luke: short, history/geography nerd, collared-shirt-wearer -- the little guy of the group. While he feigns innocence, he'll come up with some off the most out-of-pocket shit sometimes. While he's an important member of the group, the fact that he lives in Spain means that he's not in all of their videos.

Sam: Honestly, I think the best way I could explain this man is as 'the one who makes it weird'. He's the reason that Shoot From the Hip has to have disciplinary meetings. He's actually studied drama at a university. He loves correcting people over dumb shit, but hates getting corrected. Has kissed the other group members so so so many times.

Tom: Tall, barely breaks, chaos-demon. Tom makes fucking unhinged characters sometimes, it's crazy to me. He's written a Sapphic dystopia novel if that gives you an idea of how his brain works. I feel like you kind of have to see it to get a vibe for his sense of humor.

This one has a genuinely golden opening. Like it actually got me to spittake irl.

This one is one of the best in my opinion. I like Sam's screaming octopus and Tom's paella.

This one has the yaoi. I say that jokingly and seriously simultaneously somehow. AJ and Tom also pop off in this one.

Kinda weird question, but… we have a lot of queer characters in the SFTH universe… is there any character that you headcanon as ace and/or aro, or in those spectrums?

I do! It tends to be characters I relate to as I’m aroacespec too :) a lot of people headcanon Titch (unrelenting aubergine) as aro, I like the headcanon even though I’m a massive ditch shipper 🤷

Personally I like aroace Clint (from lighthouse) as a headcanon (his whole “the light is my woman” thing) as well. Also Troll son as aroace and I like aro Tobias (from wine) too :) and I know aroace Janae (as well as nonbinary Janae) is a popular headcanon too! (From neighbours) also from neighbours I personally think Angela is aro and maybe ace :]

That’s all the characters I can think of at the moment who i headcanon or know that people headcanon as aro/ace but there might be more!!! I’d love to hear people’s thoughts :)

Honestly though? I wouldn't even worry about tagging the fandom if it's a nameless shortform. Just tag it as "Shoot From The Hip - Fandom" (fandom tag) and "Shoot From The Hip Universe" (freeform tag) and you should be fine. So it'll look something like this:

and just add a note in the summary mentioning which shortform the fic comes from.

If the shortform becomes popular enough the fandom will naturally create a fanon name for it (i.e. Thirsty Vamps although technically sfth themselves named that one)
