Obsessed with Snowfall fans being unable to admit that the CIA is the main villain of the show. They'd rather blame everything on Louie, Jerome, or Alton. When like I don't know how to tell y'all this but the show is doing its damn best to show that it's literally none of them except for Teddy (by extension the CIA)? Like?!?!?! Why is that so hard to understand? No the CIA is not your friend. No Teddy did not have Franklin's safety in mind. Teddy always planned to throw Franklin and everyone else under the bus. Teddy/The CIA care about one thing. And I can promise you it is not the wellbeing of black and brown drug dealers that's for sure. Teddy may have had a few moments where he seemed to admire Franklin but that means nothing. Teddy has for the entire series shown where his loyalty is. I'm just tired of seeing everyone else get demonized. ALTON IS NOT THE PROBLEM jesus christ!!!!!!

Just got done watching this episode, and it was pretty cool! Not for the plot so much as the camera angle. I'm wondering what the storyboards' motivation was for making the enitre episode "shot" from Ben's P.O.V. (maybe it was a test for a scene in the movie?), but it was a nice change.

It’s just a tiny detail here that got overlooked, but I really like that Kubo made this deliberate choice to write Kemono with the wrong kanji.  The word kemono meaning “beast” is written  獣(or in some cases, 獸) but Kubo wrote it as 虛, which is the kanji he uses for Hollow.  It’s a really bizarre thing to have to translate because it’s literally imperceptible on the spoken level.  She’s not just talking about beasts/animals, and she’s not just talking about hollows; she’s equating hollows to animals.  But that super doesn’t come across in any of the English translations I’ve seen, all of which just picked one of the two readings and ran with that one and only that one.

I also think it’s kind of interesting that Nelliel doesn’t refer to Hito[人] she just the katakana HITO[ヒト] which almost gives this impression like she doesn’t know the meaning of the word?  Not in like a stupid way, but as if she knows the word but but there’s no meaning in it for her.  Under normal circumstances I’d just assume it was written like this for a bit of emphasis, kind of like how American comics will bold some text for emphasis, but juxtaposed with the kemono[虛] thing I think it had to have been more deliberate than that.

Anyway, I haven’t done one of these in a while, but here’s the super crude nuts-n’-bolts breakdown of this sentence:

私達は: ashita-tachi wa: “We/Us<group sffx> <subject>”

一度ヒトから: ichi-do HITO kara: “once/one-time HUMAN, from”

虚に なり: kemono ni nari: “Animal(s)/Beast(s)&Hollows<indirect object>, as soon as/right after”

然して: soshite: “and then/and now/and finally”

再び: futatabi: “again/once more/a second time”

破面として: ARRANCAR toshite: “ARRANCAR, as”

理性を: risei o: “reason/reasoning power/one’s sense(s) <direct object>”

取り戻した: tori modoshita: “got back/regained/recovered”

Note that the only actual verb is the perfect form of “to regain,” so the subject, verb, and object at the core of the statement is just “we... regained... reason.”  It’s an awkward thing to parse in English, and frankly isn’t especially smooth to read even in Japanese.  But the attempts to make it more readable in English tend to just add more words that draw attention away from the subject and action of the actual line and muddle the focus.  So, in (broken) English, it runs,

“The group of us —at one time, then Beasts(hollows) from HUMANS— now, as ARRANCAR have once more regained our reasoning.”

Other than the actual finicky wordplay of it, what I think is interesting here is how Nelliel is talking about how Arrancar have become more human again and as such aren’t obligated to fight out of violent animal instinct.  But it’s not just becoming more human-like, or becoming more rational and intelligent, it’s specifically phrased as a “return” with a specifically outlined cycle.

I think this had more far reaching implications about the direction the Arrancar Arc could have taken, but the timing of it in the plot here is a little odd because for the most part plot elements like this are actually being dropped, not added or elaborated on a this point in publication.  I wonder if it hadn’t been something Kubo planned to include but differently at first, and that he changed the context but not the sentiment of the scene as the overarching plot pivoted around wrapping up the rescue plotline sooner.

But do you guys ever remember that promo they were doing a couple seasons back where characters that mattered to Franklin had their name on their promo photo/video written in gold?!?!? Oso will speak full on Spanish to Magdalena and she understands him mostly fine. She responds in English for the most part, but on occasion Oso will act like he can't understand her so she has to speak to him in Spanish. It's a little "game" they play. Randomly though, he will say something in Spanish to her and she will just not understand and have to ask and he thinks it's cute/funny that she doesn't know. Lot's of "You're half Mexican, you should understand it better" and things along that vein.

I will try not to ramble too much about Mags here sksksksksk. But my brain is buzzing about her and particularly Franklin. But also her friendship/relationship with Leon. He means the world to her, but she understands his need to grow, and where life took him. She roots him on in all of his endeavors. But also do not even get me started on Mags and Oso... ohmygod I have soooooo much I have to say about them too!!!!! All these people mean SO much to Mags and I need to like ramble about all of them or I'm going to explode.

So last night was Snowfall's series finale.

It was amazing. This show has never shied away from the harsh realities of the life everyone was living. I also though, extremely appreciate that they were NEVER afraid of holding the CIA accountable for their part in everything.

The ending is tragic and heartbreaking. This show is hands down the best show on television. I'm not sure anything will ever beat it to me. From the story to the characters, everything rocked. I will miss it deeply.

I always forget how good Mags' Playlist is. Snowfall takes place between '83-'86 so all the songs are from there or earlier and ahhhhh (I am absolutely biased bc I love music from the 70s and 80s sksksksk) I haven't listened to it in awhile but my brain hasn't quit buzzing about Snowfall so I was revisiting it. I think her playlist may be my favorite of my ocs (for like media sksksks I think of my ocs for my own stories, Bambi’s playlist is my favorite)
