Number Tournament: [the number of responses to the pre-tournament google form] vs THIRTY-SIX
Tumblr media
2277 (the number of responses to the form I posted where people could nominate their favorite numbers to compete in this tournament)
seed: 29 (18 nominations)
class: meta
definition: a meta joke that was probably funnier when the form to suggest numbers for this tournament was still open
36 (thirty-six / nif)
seed: 36 (14 submissions)
class: highly composite number
definition: six times six, written as 100 in seximal (base six).

hi i made up yet another impractical number system/nomenclature for toki pona!!
its base six or seximal, using the digits wan (1), tu (2), san (3), po (4) and luka (5) [as used in jan Usawi's song likujo]
now a lot of number systems use suffixes to denote the position of a given digit (see four = 4 , four-ty = 40, four-hundred = 400). personally i like single syllable suffixes so i could just come up with a bunch of sounds BUT. luckily there already is a really fun tp word with a lot of fairly distinct syllables in it: kijetesantakalu!
so we just add one syllable of kijetesantakalu after every digit of a number? yes! but theres once again a but! we need to either go through the word kinda in reverse order or [much more fun option!]
reverse the order of the digits! (i struggle to explain why i think this is nessecary soo.. trust me bro?). my native language german already does this (at least for double digit numbers) so thats proof enough this makes sense. okay thats a lot of abstract rambling so heres some examples:
"53" (fifsy three)
san-ki luka-je
"3514" (thirsy five nif ten)
po-ki wan-je luka-te san-sa
(i shorten san to sa to avoid ambiguity)
"142513" (ten unexian dozen five nif nine)
san-ki wan-je luka-te tu-sa po-ta wan-ka
cons:
-unnessecarily complicated and therefore against the spirit of tp
-requires knowledge of base six
-will not be widely used so youd need to link this post everytime you use it.
-not actually useful
-you could just say the digits in order
pros:
-fun :33
-seximal
-has kijetesantakalu in it
-anything is better than the current systems
-suprisingly good at large numbers (works until 6^8-1 (dec) and would be fairly easy to extend)

Out of 10, how silly are you?
This is for a scientific study
4/10 assuming 10 means six because we are using seximal

seximal functions and new project announcement
after two days of work, I can finally add two numbers and subtract two numbers in seximal in Excel! Constantly needing to convert numbers into base 10 for math and then back to seximal was a real pain in the ass, so finishing both custom functions has been hugely helpful.
And I have now successfully scripted some shit in VBA. I haven't really thought about programming shit in years, and it was nice to take something like this on, bash my head into it for a few days, and come out with workable functions (I mean, I can't generate negative seximal values with my subtraction function, and I can only do math pairwise, but that's not the end of the world).
Oh yeah, I'm making a ttrpg that's entirely in seximal. It's inspired by the GBA-era Fire Emblem games (mostly FE6 and FE7) and while the tactical combat stuff is all in seximal, I'm handling the melodrama aspects that make Fire Emblem really special with a full Belonging Outside Belonging game.
And the game is set in Nowa Polska, my Yiddish fantasy setting that smashes together the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth, creatures and forces from Yiddish and Polish folklore, sentient magical constructs built for war in a time of peace, and the descendants of an invading Ottoman army, all kettled together by a very angry forest for a century.
It's tentatively titled Szlachta Emblem.

the song "fifty nifty united states" helps you remember the phone number of united airlines, since "fifty nifty" is 50 * 36 = 1800

can u tell I'm bored?
binary (you probably at least somewhat recognize this)
seximal (base 6, my favorite thanks to @janmisali and also because 6 is objectively the best number (because of hexagons))
octal (the favorite of @octal-wizard )
decimal (boring because everyone uses it :/)
dozenal (idk I just felt like highlighting this one.)
hexadecimal (y'know. for colors.)

A six day week would be advantagius imo :
It devides the solar year into 60 weeks and 5 days , and leapyears become 61 weeks long , meaning the calendar would cycle ever 8 years* (365,25*8= 2922 wich is the number of days in 8 solar years , 2922÷6= 487 , wich is an eaven number of weeks meaning that the calendar would cycle every 8 years , as for the 400 rule i just raise my hand in defeat , that is simply too hard to plan around i feel and it's rarity means you have print a new calendar every 50 cycles , or just skip a year in the 8 calendar cycle every 400 years )
It would also be easy to divide by 12 months , with each month getting exactly 5 weeks and January or December getting the extra 5 days in order to allow the rest of the year to have the weeks in neat rows ...
However this comes at a sacrifice , we'll have to in fact eliminate one weekday from the week ...
*365,25*8= 2922 wich is the number of days in 8 solar years , 2922÷6= 487 , wich is an eaven number of weeks meaning that the calendar would cycle every 8 years , as for the 400 rule i just raise my hand in defeat , that is simply too hard to plan around i feel and it's rarity means you have print a new calendar every 50 cycles , or just skip a year in the 8 calendar cycle every 400 years

i like that the seximal holocene era is closer to the actual age of the holocene than the decimal holocene era.
also, it just turned nif 7k7 HE!
context:
dec 2023 = sex 13211 = nif 1k7 CE
dec 12023 ≈ sex 113211 = nif 7k7 HE

we have 2 pressing problems in our society being
- whether we use bc/ad or bce/ace we're pretending our current timekeeping system based on the supposed birth of jesus is a Universally Relevant Event, equally so to christianity and the rest of the world, just a PERFECTLY secular occurrence that everyone cares about for any reasons besides violent christian imperialism,
-and we number centuries by one less than the actual year number. if its the year 2022 it should be the 20th century. yes i DO think it would make more sense to say "0th century" for the years between 0 and 999. shut up
which is why i think we should just move to a different system starting at a completely different year. you could call the centuries by the same number as the constituent years and there would be no question when a text was referring to a king in the 17th century if they ACTUALLY meant the 1600s or 1700s if the 17th century was like, 3000 years ago or something. i dont even care where we start it. use the hebrew calender, start it today, start it the day monkeys started talking. idc i just think we should abolish the western calendar

I love seeing a slightly radfemy post randomly appearing on my dash, checking out the op's blog and immediately seeing pro-racial segregation videos. You can't make this shit up
