A word to the wise: remember to check that the scale of your print-at-home pattern is correct BEFORE cutting out your fabric...

Been hastily finishing comissions before the large annual event and officially fuck this cloak
It should have been easy, because the wearer had already cut out the pieces, and should have been maybe an hour job to put together.
However, they totally messed up the neckline, making it far too big, so I essentially had to take a massive triangle out the back, plus smaller ones at the shoulder, turning a 3 panel cloak into a 6 panel.
Also the sheer weight of this fabric is absolutely ridiculous, like will probably damage the wearer's spine ridiculous, I have to use my core just to lift it, so because of that I basically had to sew at full speed just for the machine to feed it properly, which wasn't much fun.
In conclusion, if I take commissions like this again, I'M sourcing the fabric aaldlflhkja

The game of ribbon/trim chicken is not a fun one🙁

I underestimated how long these ribbons needed to be in order to go all the way around the skirt 😩

boy don't get too into historical textiles it will RUIN fanfic set in any kind of historical fantasy verse because i know I KNOW the writers are using the silk clothes/sheets ripping actions to depict intensity of experience but ALL I CAN THINK ABT IS HOW MUCH TIME & WORK THAT TOOK TO WEAVE AND MAKE IN THAT SETTING AAAAAUGH
and then im thinking abt how IN THAT SETTING (watsonian) they should KNOW that and they would inherently have more respect for their things and it should just !!! be written with a lot more characterization weight if they're engaging in this kind of behavior regardless, u know?????

Fabric samples for new nightgowns arrived but I have to be an adult and work.
The tragedy of being employed, I suppose.
Also, no matter what fabrics-store.com tells you, their handkerchief linen is not good for sleepwear. One of my nightgowns turned into Swiss cheese in two years and the other is on the way to swiss-town. I'm trying some of the Kaffe Fassett shot cotton since it should be about the right weight and isn't a baby color.
(I can get batiste but only in white, pale blue, mint, pale pink, or pale yellow. While those would be 1920s-appropriate colors for nightgowns, they're a bit sweeter than I want. My blood for lightweight cotton in an interesting color that I don't have to dye myself, I suppose.)

Today was a bust. I am filled with so much frustration, I don't know where to put it. I am continuing to paper piece stars, and I chose a simple, nested, four pointed star. Simple, right? Wrong! With every little mistake I get more fed up, which only causes me to rush and mess up more. I had to redo the same little dinky triangle FOUR times! I don't know why I'm getting so worked up. Just one of those days, I guess. I think my problems stem from trying to be too economical with my fabric pieces. I'll choose a scrap that is technically large enough if sewn in right position, but in practice leads to frequent mistakes. I just need to learn to be more generous with the scrap sizes, as much as it pains me to leave the smaller bits unused 🙃

Why am I the LAST person to know that the trick for cutting fabric out is to put paper underneath?? I've been sewing for damn near a DECADE and I'm finding out NOW?!
