Choooooo.

The hum of the train was loud beneath the leather of his boots, the thunderous hum of the engine dulled by thick plates of steel and scaffold. It ebbed and flowed with the turns of the train, with the movement through hillsides and landscapes that stretched into the horizon.

Ed could feel the hum of movement deep in his bones, echoing up through his arms like a strange metal vibration, shaking him ever so slightly against the back of his seat.

It was a comforting feeling, long familiar and long welcomed. It pounded into his bones with an easy rhythm trembling him into a state of almost-sleep. After so long a state alchemist— after so long a traveler, wandering where his feet and curiosity took him— the sensation was second nature. It soothed something deep in his belly, like the feeling of a tune up to his old arm, all gentle tweaks and fine vibrations. He didn’t wield that automail anymore, but that sensation still slept in his nerves.

It felt like his mother’s humming from a sickbed so many years lost to memory.

Chooooo.

In a crackle of bones and tired muscles, Ed stretched his arms up over his head, let his spine fall into place. The sound was loud in the silent compartment, echoing into the four iron walls with a satisfying finality.

Cr—ack.  

Al didn’t even stir, body collapsed against the window and cheek pressed firmly to cool glass. He looked exhausted, boney shoulders contorted to one side and jacket curled over his shoulders like a blanket. Inked words in messy lines stood out from his face, drawn on while he was sleeping and defenseless.

Ed couldn’t wait to see how long it took him to notice— he’d had the pen tucked away precisely for a situation like this, and now Al had gone and let his guard down.

All’s fair in love and brothers.

A bump sent Ed rattling against the wall of the compartment, body swaying with the gentle curve of the train. He caught himself against the fabric-covered iron, felt it press into his fingers and relished the give of his skin. The marvel of evolution in his flesh and blood and bones—

No alchemy could fake the feel of his own arm.

Choooooo.

The train were still moving, the soft lullaby of the engine chasing the shadows of regrets from Ed’s eyes. Here, with iron walls guarding them and that gentle song dancing over his fingers— whole fingers, alive and real with none of the chill of iron— he felt content.

Here he could lean back and let the tension fade from his limbs, let his mind spin away on errant thoughts. There was no vast plot to stop, now. No more inhuman enemies to fight and merciless mountains of alchemical research to climb.

Before those obstacles Ed had stood strong, the grim certainty of his conviction making his shadow stretch far behind him. With a smile and unstoppable force, he had done the impossible.

Choooooo.

He looked at the shadows lining Al’s too-young face, at the way his shirt hung off thin bones. Ed looked at his brother and saw someone who had survived the worst life had thrown at him. He saw his own mistakes and the penance he’d paid to fix them.

They had done the impossible.

A ragged hint of starvation still hung from the hollowness of Al’s face, carving deep shadows under his cheekbones and highlighting the stark lines of his jaw. Curled against the window, feet tucked into the cushion below him and golden hair on the wrong side of stringy, Al was so small.

To a passerby, he’d look half-human, all lean muscle and gaunt face. To Ed, he looked like family.

My friend, @sevenseasaurus drew this picture of my OCs a long time ago and I still love it with my whole heart. This is my superhero team! They’re all in a superhero training facility together learning how to master their powers and work as a team.

In front is Brady. Superhero name: Spark! He’s an 11 year old Chinese boy with ADHD and electricity powers. He’s the newest recruit to the supertrainees, but he’s very excited to be a part of it. Brady was born in the US but grew up in poverty with his parents (who immigrated from China not long before his birth) and two younger twin sisters. When his family could scrape together enough money, they would take him to a comic book store to let him pick one out. That’s why he loves superheroes and can’t believe that he gets to be one. He was discovered by the training facility because he got so excited at the comic book store that he accidentally caused an electrical fire and burned the place to the ground (everyone was okay though).

To the left of Brady is Pat (Superhero name undecided). Pat is a 18, genderfluid, Native American (I’m thinking Cherokee but have not decided yet) telepath. They can read the minds of anyone they can see and if they know and trust someone really well, they can transfer their thoughts. They are most known for their luscious, silky long hair that they will braid on special occasions. They’ll wear a feather in their hair if they want you to use female pronouns that day and no feather if they want you to use male pronouns, but if you don’t know, use they. Pat tends to escape the training facility to spend some time out in nature and away from people. Sometimes all those voices in their head get exhausting. Pat is terrified of heights. Pat cares deeply about their Native American Heritage.

Behind Pat is Jennifer. Superhero name: Genie. Jennifer is 17, Muslim, deaf, asexual, and can control and become wind. Jennifer got her powers as a child by a supervillain and was taken from Iran to the US against her will, leaving her family behind. She eventually overpowered and defeated her captor, but had nowhere to go. That’s when the training facility found her. Because she is completely deaf, everyone on her team learns sign language in order to communicate with her everyone is fluent except Brady (who is learning). Pat and Jennifer are madly in love. They will have full, lovey-dovey conversations within their own heads because of telecommunication and everyone agrees that they are the CUTEST. Pat will sometimes open up a “communication channel” with the team so that she can “hear” everything said. But people will still use sign language in addition anyway. Jennifer loves to laugh and make jokes with her team. Her wind powers allow her to fly, use against bad guys and completely become wind (clothes included). Her superhero outfit is my favorite because her hijab is also a cape that she makes flutter with wind powers.

In the middle back is Angela. Superhero name: Harpy. She’s the only white member of the team (and is a shameful self-insert). She’s 24, six feet tall, pansexual and has PTSD from her really tragic backstory. When she was 16, she grew these extremely powerful wings and tail, developed super strength, and started to fight crime. She was still in high school with friends and a family that she was very close with. She eventually started losing control of her powers and transformed into a vicious, predatory monster. She has no control over this form and she killed all of her family and friends. She still remembers everything that happened. She was eventually found and captured by the training facility who got her to calm enough to become Angela again. She still has her wings and tail, but if she shows any emotion through her face, she transforms back into the beast. She’s been in training for 7 years so she’s been here longer than any other team member. Despite everything, she tends to be very cheerful. She can’t smile, but her eyes still seem to (they say that she can actually smile the few times that she can go outside and freely.) She has super-strength, but her bones are hollow, like a bird’s, to allow for flight, so unless she has PERFECT technique, she gets injured…a lot. That’s where Marcella comes in.

On the right is Maricella. Superhero name: Lab Rat. She 26, 5'2", Latina (I’m still deciding between Mexican and Cuban), a lesbian, has prosthetic legs, and has medical magic. Not only does she have medical magic, but she’s also a genius in biology, chemistry, all other sciences related to medicine (don’t ask her to fix your computer though. She’s got no clue). She can create a cure for practically any ailment or injury that’s faster and better than anything on the market. She and Angela end up spending a LOT of time together because of Angela’s near-constant injuries. So much so, that mutual crushes and pining goes into full swing and literally everyone knows but each other. It’s so cute. Oh my god it’s so cute. They’re idiots around each other and can’t handle their feelings. Aaaahhh. Okay. Focus. Maricella has two moms and an older brother that’s a technical genius. He designed and maintains her legs (she asks him to make them two inches taller when she starts dating Angela). She always has a lab coat and ALWAYS keeps her hair up (safety first). Maricella takes no shit. She swears much more than anyone else on the team and can be somewhat hot-headed and frank, but only because she cares. She loves classic rock and always has a band t-shirt or tank on (but she has a soft spot for Nicki Minaj. Don’t tell anyone)

Those are my Super OCs!!! I have a few more supporting characters like the black, trans, stress-filled Agent Collins, and the Indian, heterosexual (my friend said I should put ONE straight character in there) mom training instructor. I’m so sorry that this is so long, but I love them all with my entire heart. They are my children and I’m still developing who they are. The story I’m writing only has three chapter so far because what is a plot, but I love them. Thanks for reading :)

1. The meaning behind my URL

Okay, story time! (This is really long winded, feel free to skip it)

So one of my good friends came up with a Homestuck-inspired Sburb session with her and all of her friends in it. For the session we all needed chumhandles of course, so we decided to use our initials as the basis for them, and mine are "CS". I really love clouds and atmospheric things, so my first chumhandle was cycloneStratovarius (A portmanteau of stratosphere and the Stradivarius brand of violin). We all registered our respective chumhandles on the Pesterchum application, but it had a glitch where it would eat the first name you registered and then claim that it was taken by someone else. I then went to cycloneStraticos, fell in love with the name, and the rest is history

18. Phobia

I don't fear death, spiders and snakes are totally cool, but I am absolutely terrified of needles. I panic and can't think straight when faced with the ultimatum of "This won't hurt a bit", and I avoid them at all costs. The very thought of getting an IV makes me nauseous.

(Funny story actually, I was really scared one time when I needed to get my finger pricked for blood, so I asked the nurse if there was anywhere else they could prick. He looked puzzled and said that he was taught he could prick my earlobe instead, but he'd never actually had to do it. I asked him to do that instead, and we both laughed and he did it. It wasn't bad at all because I couldn't see it, and it didn't hurt, so win-win.  ^^)

Hey there! Sorry to bother you but I realized I was a little unclear on my post earlier so you may have misinterpreted. What I meant was that many people are rude and pretentious when correcting gender and sexuality labels, often times over honest mistakes. I'm pan, but it is easy for someone who doesn't know any better to call me bi. The proper response to that isn't to act like that person is a bigoted jerk- and some people do act like that, which was why I made the analogy in the first place -but instead to say, oh, well I guess that's sort of right but I'm actually pansexual and I would prefer that. Some more obscure labels seem redundant sometimes, and even silly, but that's why it's important to treat people with respect when teaching them about these things; if you don't then you can never hope to make them more accepting. And having labels is never bad- if something makes you happy and doesn't harm anyone else then it is totally awesome, and labels certainly don't harm anyone else! Sorry that is a little long I didn't mean to babble on and on I just wanted to clarify. Have a nice day! And if you celebrate Christmas then certainly Merry Christmas and if not then at least you are probably off school so enjoy that!
