what we know: The Acolyte was pitched sometime in early 2020. The Rise of Skywalker had just ended the movie saga. The Mandalorian, which kicked off disney+, had just finished its first season with great audience response. Lucasfilm was reorienting itself to streaming. Rayne Roberts loved the pitch, got Kathleen Kennedy who also loved it, and the show was greenlit.
the show premiered in summer 2024, after a generous marketing campaign (including a clip shown with The Phantom Menace rerelease, an original Victoria Monét song, and plenty of trailers and tv spots). multiple pieces of tie-in media were announced both before and during the show's airing (an Acolyte comic issue, a Kelnacca comic issue, a visual guide, an art reference book, two novels featurig show characters).
the high republic multimedia project (THR), in advanced development when the show was pitched and published continuously from early 2021, greatly influenced the show's development. the costuming is largely based on the look of THR, the show makes plenty of lore references, and includes a main character from the books in its main cast. THR material coming out in summer 2024 has "a century before The Acolyte" prominently on the cover, the upcoming show tie-ins are largely written by THR authors, and often feature other THR characters.
the show was expensive, with a long production period and a great focus on the technical aspects - building large elaborate sets, filming on location in Madeira, detailed stunt sequences with a lot of actor involvement, plenty of attention given to costumes, make-up and creature design. the cast included many high-profile actors. everything suggests the show had full confidence of lucasfilm.
what i'm gonna speculate: lucasfilm was playing the long game with this show, or hoping to. cancelling the show this early was unexpected.
in 2019 star wars was quite literally centered on the original trilogy. the seven decades or so around the OT contained all currently canon star wars media, even as the franchise was spoken of as one with 25,000 years of history. the following years would plug up even more empty spots on the timeline, with the projects often overlapping. this gave the writers much less creative freedom, which was the whole point of decanonizing all pre-2014 media aside from films and shows. over time, fans started clamoring for onscreen content set outside of the known eras, and there were more and more voices in and outside of the fandom exhausted with fanservice (the glup shitto phenomenon).
The Acolyte was set in a whole new era, as far as onscreen content goes, and its only legacy character was from children's and YA books most viewers wouldn't be familiar with. it was specifically introduced as a show you wouldn't need any homework for. it had actors prominent in entirely different contexts (Matrix. sitcom. Squid Game. YA. superhero movies. independent films. relationship dramas.) and the cast was pretty international.
the show had a lot specifically for established fans - you could say it was the most wide-reaching in its star wars references, incorporating elements from every trilogy, the animated shows, canon books, oldschool legends lore, video games. but i believe it was mostly meant to attract people who were not previously fans, and especially target demographics that were underrepresented in the fandom. draw in international audiences, young people who were around for other star wars properties but they never caught their interest, women who either weren't in the fandom or felt pushed away by the reaction to The Last Jedi.
lucasfilm execs definitely weren't planning for viewing numbers comparable to Obi-Wan Kenobi, or even Ahsoka, since those are characters people are already invested in. i think lucasfilm expected the show's audience to grow over a longer period, since plenty of people might check it out because it seems cool and they like an actor in it, and hopefully stick around to watch other star wars and become new fans of the franchise. the audience would get a chance to establish itself through new viewers watching it outside the couple weeks when it aired originally - it's a streaming platform, after all - and the show would have a solid fandom for its second season (which they were clearly planning to make).
these new fans would keep disney+ in order to check out other star wars shows and film, and keep buying star wars stuff over the hiatus. even if they were only into The Acolyte and their interest never expanded beyond that, there were many merchandising products and tie-in materials coming out. the comics and books would have connections to THR, hopefully getting an influx of readers before the initiative finishes next year and boosting sales of already published works. the THR readers who weren't interested in the show originally would see all their favorite authors writing stuff for it and check it out, too.
but then someone higher up decided to cancel it a month after airing so no i guess

A new force has arrived on Detroit’s film scene.
One month after moving to the city, independent California filmmaker Tom E. Brown has hit the ground running excited to boost Detroit’s film community, which has suffered the recent loss of three Indie theaters in Metro Detroit. The freshly appointed Detroit Institute of Arts Detroit Film Theater board member said he has his eye on growing the local film community and pushing for a return of the state’s film tax credit.
During a free Sunday screening of his 2016 film “Pushing Dead” at the Senate Theater and Q&A for World AIDS Day, he announced plans to film a sequel in Detroit.
“I’m going to try to see if I can do anything to help bring the film incentives back, because that would be nice for Detroit,” added Brown, who bought a house in East English Village.
The bipartisan Multimedia Jobs Act would create a transferable tax credit of up to 30% for Michigan-based multimedia projects. The bill was co-sponsored in 2023 by John Roth, R-Interlochen, and Jason Hoskins, D-Southfield. Currently, more than 35 states have a multimedia or film incentive. For seven years Michigan had a film credit offering up to 42% rebate of filmmakers’ in-state production costs, but it ended in 2015 amid criticism that taxpayers weren’t benefitting.
Roth’s office did not immediately return a request for comment on the bill.
Opponents of the package, from teacher unions to Republican lawmakers, say the state can’t afford film subsidies amid large public infrastructure needs. In November, the Great Lakes Gun Rights nonprofit told Republican lawmakers in a post to X, formerly Twitter, that the package was “anti-gun” by giving tax dollars “to liberal anti-gun Hollywood elites to produce liberal anti-gun programs in Michigan.” The tax program would entail $2 billion in credits over 10 years.
Others, like the Michigan Film Industry Association, have argued that the money would be well spent by boosting the local economy and tourism by $6-$8 billion in direct spending in the first 10 years, and creating new jobs, while decreasing the population loss of college graduates.
The bills were tentatively scheduled for a vote in the state House last month, but no action was taken amid attendance issues and lingering concerns over the proposal. Time is running short to get the bills passed this session, as lawmakers will break for the year in late December.
Brown’s “Pushing Dead” is a comedy that focuses on an HIV-positive writer who is suddenly dropped from his health plan for earning too much after depositing a $100 check in his bank account. The film stars James Roday, Danny Glover and Robin Weigert.
Brown, 57, has made short films for nearly four decades that have been featured at the American Museum of Natural History, the Walker Art Center and the Guggenheim. “Pushing Dead,” supported by the Sundance Institute and Rockefeller Foundation, screened at more than 50 film festivals winning 10 best-feature and audience and jury awards.
The “Pushing Dead” sequel, which Brown said is 25% written, is one of several films he hopes to shoot in Detroit. The movie will open with a couple pushed out of San Francisco who land in Detroit, and features a scene in the city. Brown said he has already received verbal promises of financial support from locals, which is “rare” for an Indie film.
In San Francisco, films are ranked by factors like local jobs and diversity and entered into a lottery for tax incentives. Depending on whether Brown wins San Francisco’s film lottery and how Michigan’s legislation advances, Brown said he would also like to film the movie “American Dog,” in Detroit. That film, he said, is about “an unhinged lesbian cop in backwater America” who will be played by Margaret Cho.
If the Multimedia Jobs Act were passed Brown said it would make filming American Dog in Detroit “more appealing” because it’s increasingly challenging to raise funds for film. But regardless, Brown said he’ll film in Detroit, and is passionate about doing so.
“It’s a lot of things that come into play when you’re trying to raise money for a movie, but I will absolutely make movies in Michigan,” he said. “I like the idea of setting this little indie with the same characters, with the two main characters from ‘Pushing Dead’ in Detroit, just because it’s such a beautiful city. Everywhere you look it’s just filmic and gorgeous.”
Last year, the city’s Detroit Film Office authorized 83 productions to film, according to a BridgeDetroit FOIA.
The subject matter of Brown’s film is particularly relevant to Detroit, where HIV rates are four times higher than the rest of Michigan.
On Sunday, a post-screening panel featuring Brown, Weigert and LGBT Detroit Executive Director Nzere Kwabena focused on the film production process and AIDS.
In Detroit, approximately 766 people per 100,000 residents have HIV, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services 2023 HIV Prevalence Report.
Brown, who was diagnosed with HIV 40 years ago and initially given three years to live, said World AIDS Day is a happy day for him now because it means he’s alive. World AIDS Day, on Dec. 1, was first recognized in 1988.
“Pushing Dead” is available for free streaming with a public library card on Kanopy or on various paid streaming services. The timeline for the sequel is unknown, but expected after Brown wraps production on “American Dog.”
(via DannyG)
#tom e brown#pushing dead#pushing dead 2#american dog#exciting new about that pushing dead sequel even though it'll probably be another decade before we get to see it#a bit confused that it is apparently about a “couple” but tom also talks about the “two main characters” being the subject of the film#not sure if he misspoke or the interviewer just misquoted what he said since james' and robin's characters are most certainly not a couple#also why am i not surprised that the michigan gun lobby is rallying against film incentives as being “anti-gun”#only in america#anyway#very exciting

Ryuichi Sakamoto, the Japanese musician whose remarkably eclectic career straddled pop, experimentalism and Oscar-winning film composition, has died aged 71.
As a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra alongside Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, Sakamoto created joyous and progressive electronic pop in the late 1970s and early 1980s, alongside solo releases. He acted alongside David Bowie in the 1983 film Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence and composed its celebrated theme, the first in a series of film scores including Oscar-winning work in 1987 with David Byrne and Cong Su for Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor.
Sakamoto had twice been diagnosed with cancer. In 2014, he took a year off from music as he recovered from throat cancer, describing the illness as “the most harsh, physically painful time in my life”.
In January 2021, he announced he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer, saying: “From now on, I will be living alongside cancer. But, I am hoping to make music for a little while longer.”
He was born in Tokyo in 1952, and began taking piano lessons aged six, later attending Tokyo University of the Arts to study music. He trained on early synthesizers, and enthused by everything from Debussy to Kraftwerk, began working on various musical projects, including with Hosono and Takahashi. After Sakamoto released his 1978 solo debut, Thousand Knives – playing melodies that harked back to traditional Japanese music on electronic equipment – the trio realised their vision for a Japanese disco-pop group, Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO).
The group became a huge success in Japan – in 1980, two of their albums stayed at No 1 and No 2 in the charts for seven weeks, and they had seven Top 5 albums during their career. “Accidentally the three of us became very popular,” he remembered in 2018. “Walking the street in Tokyo, people pointed at me. I hated it.”
Their English-language lyrics helped them cross over into the US, where they appeared on the TV show Soul Train, and their electronic production influenced early hip-hop and electro scenes. Michael Jackson covered their song Behind the Mask and intended to include it on Thriller, but a royalties disagreement prevented it.
Their track Computer Game was also a Top 20 hit in the UK. YMO went on hiatus in 1984, though occasionally reunited for releases and reunion concerts.
Alongside YMO, Sakamoto continued releasing solo albums including 1980’s B-2 Unit, another influence on the robotically funky sound of electro that also foreshadowed other dance music styles. After focusing purely on solo work, he forged further connections in the west, collaborating with musicians including Iggy Pop, Robert Wyatt, Laurie Anderson, David Sylvian and more. Sylvian contributed Forbidden Colours, a vocal version of one of Sakamoto’s most famous works, the theme to second world war drama Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence. Sakamoto also starred in the film as a prisoner of war camp commander.
Following The Last Emperor (in which he also had an acting role), he collaborated with Bernardo Bertolucci again for The Last Buddha, and with Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence director Nagisa Oshima for Gohatto. He also scored two films by Brian De Palma (Snake Eyes and Femme Fatale), plus Wild Palms for Oliver Stone, High Heels for Pedro Almodóvar, the 1990 film adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale, and more. His 2015 score for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s film The Revenant was nominated for Golden Globe, Bafta and Grammy awards. In 2019, he composed the music for an episode of dystopian TV drama series Black Mirror. He took no further acting roles, aside from appearing as a film director in Rain, a music video for Madonna.
Sakamoto released a steady schedule of solo releases throughout the 1990s and onwards, and wrote a piece for the opening ceremony of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. In 1999 he debuted the multimedia opera project Life, in collaboration with artist Shiro Takatani with contributions from Bertolucci, Pina Bausch and more. He and Takatani extended the concept into installation work from 2007 onwards.
Also in 2007, he began the ambitious Schola project, curating 17 compilations of global music ranging from composers such as Ravel and Beethoven to Japanese pop. It was released via his record label Commmons, set up in 2006, which has also released work by artists including Boredoms and OOIOO.
In 2002, he began a fruitful partnership with German musician Carsten Nicolai, who used his Alva Noto alias for four collaborative albums of minimalist electronica.
Sakamoto was also an environmental campaigner, opposing the use of nuclear power, and creating the forestry project More Trees to enable carbon offsetting.
In 1982, Sakamoto married Japanese pop musician Akiko Yano, a touring member of YMO and a successful solo artist in her own right. They split in 1992, and eventually filed for divorce in 2006. They had a daughter, pop singer Miu Sakamoto.
Since the early 1990s, Sakamoto has been in a relationship with Norika Sora. Their son Neo Sora contributed to a documentary, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda, directed by Stephen Nomura Schible in 2018.

Surprise !
Hi, everyone. No, I haven't gone bonkers, and I'm sorry if anyone got *really* excited that I added another chapter to this. I haven't. However, there *have* been some updates to this. First off, there's a playlist. In the story notes, you see a link to the official YouTube Music playlist for Doubt Thou the Stars Are Fire. It's music I listened to as I was writing this, things I found to set the mood. As I went along in the writing process, I realized the music was telling the story as much as my writing was, so I ordered the playlist to follow along with Stars. As you can probably also see, I embedded the cover art in the notes. I also added section art and artwork for the interludes. I created all the artwork herein, with, as always, gentle and enthusiastic feedback from the wonderful No-C-Riously. This is a book. From July to November of 2022, I wrote a 140,576-word book based on Star Trek Discovery Season 2. After it was finished, I wanted to more clearly define the Acts of the book, so I looked up the phases of a military engagement. As you go through the piece, you will now see artwork detailing the start of a new phase, as well as the phase's definition -- at least, as it's defined by the US Military. #'Murica I hope, if you've already read this behemoth, you'll give it another thought, with the multimedia enhancements I've added. Thank you for your time, your support, your key smashing, and your love for this story. Always, LyricalViolet September 15, 2023

A Little of Something Else...
It's taken some time to get to the point where I'm happy to make mention of this, but I'd like to just express it out to the Aether.
I recently walked away from my Star Citizen Org after seven years volunteering as their Multimedia person. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do because I invested a lot of time, money, and parts of my soul into that Org. But it was the right thing to do.
I'm not going to go into details of what happened; not yet. It's still pretty raw, and it still makes me feel quite angry. But needless to say, it hurt.
It hurt, my trust was broken and I needed to walk away.
I know I did the right thing.
Looking back, I now realise that the thing I'm going to miss most is doing all the work for attending conventions. Not the people. And that is a sad thing. Of course there are SOME folks I miss, but ultimately, I miss the work.
I LOVED doing the prep work. I wrote proposals and Org guides, designed booths, commissioned work and publicity materials, created cosplays, and organised fundraising for the ventures (plus charities!). I even got our Org to sponsor a Manatee after the death of a friend of my brother (also in the Org). It was difficult, sweaty, tiring and often thankless.
But I loved it all the same. I'm truly going to miss those experiences, and I'm going to miss the people that I met along the way. And I met some hopelessly wonderful people while at BritizenCon and CitizenCon. I hope that my next venture will provide similar opportunities.

Web Design Agency: 7 Advanced SEO Strategies for 2025
In 2025, the digital landscape continues to evolve. With it, the strategies for search engine optimisation (SEO) services also progress.
For business owners and administrators looking to enhance their online presence, staying ahead of the curve is crucial. This blog will explore seven advanced SEO strategies to help your website achieve better visibility and higher rankings on search engines. So, let’s dive in to choose the best reliable web design agency.
Enhance Content’s Time to Value
Time to value is the duration it takes for a user to derive benefit from your content. Ensuring a short time to value can significantly improve user experience, reduce bounce rates, and increase engagement.
Implement the Inverted Pyramid Approach: Place the most critical information at the top of your content. This approach helps users get the value they seek immediately.
Optimise for Mobile: Given that many users access content via mobile devices, minimise scrolling by making key information accessible above the fold.
Develop Topic Clusters
Topic clusters consist of a central pillar page that targets a broad topic, surrounded by related content pieces that link back to it. This strategy enhances topical authority and improves SEO.
Create Comprehensive Pillar Pages: Develop detailed pages that cover all aspects of a central topic.
Internal Linking: Ensure all related articles link back to the pillar page, reinforcing its authority.
If you are a beginner, it is recommended to consult with an SEO-friendly web design agency.
Example: A digital marketing agency in Melbourne could create a pillar page on “SEO services” and support articles on keyword research, on-page SEO, and local SEO strategies.
Leverage Strategic Internal Linking
Internal linking helps search engines understand your site’s structure and enhances user navigation. Strategic internal linking involves linking high-authority pages to relevant, less authoritative pages.
Identify High-Authority Pages: Use tools to find pages with the most backlinks and authority.
Anchor Text Optimisation: Use descriptive anchor text that aligns with the target page’s primary keyword.
Best Practice: Regularly audit your site for internal linking opportunities, especially after publishing new content.
Maximise SERP Real Estate
Growing the position of your site on the SERP can bring more traffic without enhancing the rank’s quality.
Use Structured Data: Optimise for Schema markup to make further improvements to your site’s appearance in SERPs: this may entail getting such elements as stars, prices, and images added to the snippets.
Multimedia Content: Provide video and image content, besides using infographics, to ensure users get value and that the website ranks well to different queries.
It is advisable to have a web design agency to discuss your SEO requirements with their SEO professionals.
Example: This means that a bakery business based in Melbourne is able to use the schema markup to provide the searchers with the customer’s reviews and availability on the specific product.
Utilise Paid Ads for Link Building
Link building remains a cornerstone of SEO services. Using paid ads strategically can enhance your backlink profile.
Target Informational Keywords: Find keywords with high informational intent and run ads to promote content around these terms.
Monitor Performance: Adjust keywords and ad bids to optimize performance and ROI.
Example: A tech startup in Melbourne could run Google Ads for a blog post on “Top SEO tools in 2024” to attract backlinks.
Steal Featured Snippets
SEO services in a web design agency use featured snippets, appearing at the top of SERPs and providing an excellent opportunity to increase visibility.
Identify Snippet Opportunities: Use tools to find keywords where your competitors have featured snippets.
Format Content for Snippets: Structure your content in a way that answers questions directly and concisely.
Example: An accounting firm in Melbourne could target snippets for queries like “How to file taxes in Melbourne.”
Conduct A/B Testing
A/B testing concerns the aspects of the content that are most effective from the two, so it becomes effective in SEO and user engagement.
Test Various Elements: Try using different headlines for the article, images used in the article, and the call to action section.
Measure Impact: Monitor traffic and click-through ratios, conversion rates, and even bounce rates.
If you need more precise insights into your website performance, it is best to consider an SEO web design agency.
Final Words
Advanced SEO services describe how you can dramatically increase your online presence, the usability of your website, and traffic. It is crucial to note that achieving SEO success means constant vigil and adaptation to the changes in the SEO environment as you employ the mentioned strategies.
SEO is an important aspect that most businesses, especially online-based ones, need to consider. Get in touch with a web design agency now to learn how we can take your business to the next level with expert SEO services.

OK ladies and gentlemen, here's the official description of my collection of darker stories, Omen Tales!
This happen because it could be a multimedia franchise, like games, animated series and films.
Also, I heavily influenced my darker story collection, having sagas and story arcs that have been majorly inspired by pop culture and various classic franchises, for most, the creation of interdimensional homeworlds and multiverses, including the influences of omens.
Fun Fact 1: Omen Tales is given the name of storytelling and the phenomenon of omens, because it was majorly inspired by the Grimms' Fairytales. Most of all, there would be lots of modern worlds happening.
Fun Fact 2: Sagas and Story Arcs are inspired from various genres (such as fighting games, childhood and horror films) and contain ten-story chapters of the namesake projects. Allowing the creation of a huge story (crossover idea) around the world as the "Great Storyteller".
Updated: Expanding heavily influences my Omen Tales! I have added seven more heavy influences, which are Smite, Freedom Force, PlayStation All-Stars, Elysian Tail, Pantheon, Swords and Sandals Saga and MultiVersus (after I watched the Launch Trailer, and it looks amazing!).

Dubai's Aesthetic Marvel: Blending Tradition with Modern Elegance
Dubai, a city synonymous with opulence and modernity, is a testament to the harmonious convergence of tradition and contemporary elegance. Nestled in the heart of the Middle East, this metropolis has seamlessly woven the fabric of its rich cultural heritage into the tapestry of cutting-edge architecture and innovative design. In exploring Dubai's aesthetic marvel, we unravel the city's unique ability to balance tradition with modernity, creating an urban landscape that captivates the world.
Architectural Extravaganza:
Dubai's skyline is an awe-inspiring testament to its commitment to pushing the boundaries of architectural innovation. At the forefront of this skyline stands the Burj Khalifa, an iconic symbol of modernity that pierces the heavens. Yet, as one gazes upon this architectural marvel, the discerning eye will note the intricate design elements that pay homage to traditional Islamic architecture, showcasing the city's deep-rooted connection to its cultural heritage.
The Burj Al Arab, often hailed as the world's only seven-star hotel, embodies the marriage of luxury and tradition. Resembling a billowing sail, this magnificent structure not only graces the skyline with its audacious design but also incorporates elements inspired by Arabic dhow sails. The juxtaposition of the ultramodern and the timeless creates an aesthetic that is uniquely Dubai.
Modern Oasis in the Desert:
Dubai's urban planning is a masterstroke that transforms the seemingly inhospitable desert into a thriving, modern oasis. The city's commitment to sustainable architecture and eco-friendly initiatives is evident in the development of projects like the Sustainable City. Here, traditional Arabian architecture meets modern sustainable practices, creating a harmonious blend of the old and the new.
The Dubai Mall, a shopping extravaganza, is more than just a commercial hub. Its interior design reflects the opulence of the city, with grandiose fountains and breathtaking architecture. However, it also houses the museums of Dubai Modern Art, a testament to the city's dedication to fostering a vibrant arts scene that bridges the gap between tradition and contemporary expression.
Artistic Flourish:
Dubai's commitment to the arts is palpable in the myriad of galleries and installations that dot the cityscape. The Alserkal Avenue in the industrial quarter of Al Quoz is a testament to Dubai's burgeoning contemporary art scene. Former warehouses have been transformed into vibrant art spaces, showcasing the works of local and international artists. Here, the clash of industrial surroundings with avant-garde art creates a fascinating dynamic, encapsulating Dubai's commitment to embracing the future while honouring its past.
The Museums of Dubai:
Dubai's museums serve as custodians of its cultural narrative, preserving the stories of its past while propelling it into the future. The museums in Dubai, located in the historic Al Fahidi Fort, provide a captivating journey through the city's transformation from a fishing village to a global hub. Ancient artefacts and immersive exhibits breathe life into the tales of Dubai's evolution, allowing visitors to connect with the city's rich heritage.
In the heart of the city lies the Etihad Museum, a contemporary architectural masterpiece that unfolds the story of the United Arab Emirates' formation. Interactive displays and multimedia installations offer a dynamic exploration of the nation's history, ensuring that tradition is not merely preserved but brought vividly into the present.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi, while not in Dubai, stands as a testament to the region's commitment to the arts. A short drive from Dubai, this architectural marvel reflects the collaborative spirit of global and local influences. It houses a diverse collection that spans millennia, bringing together artworks from various cultures, eras, and civilisations. The Louvre Abu Dhabi serves as a cultural bridge, connecting the world through art while highlighting the rich cultural tapestry of the Middle East.
The architectural brilliance of the Etihad Museum is not confined to its exterior; the interior spaces are carefully curated to create an immersive experience. From the dramatic lighting that accentuates historical artefacts to the use of cutting-edge technology, every element is designed to transport visitors into the heart of the UAE's journey, allowing them to witness the birth of a nation palpably and engagingly.
Louvre Abu Dhabi:
While not within the city limits of Dubai, the Louvre Abu Dhabi stands as a shining testament to the region's unwavering commitment to the arts. A short drive from Dubai, this cultural hub is situated on Saadiyat Island and represents a collaborative effort that transcends borders. The Louvre Abu Dhabi is not merely a museums in Dubai; it is a cultural bridge that connects the world through the universal language of art.
Designed by the renowned architect Jean Nouvel, the Louvre Abu Dhabi's architectural grandeur is a marvel in itself. The museum's iconic dome, a complex geometric pattern of interwoven stars, creates a breathtaking play of light and shadow, resembling a contemporary interpretation of traditional Arabic architecture. This fusion of global design influences and local aesthetics is a visual testament to the museum's mission to celebrate diversity and interconnectedness.
Within the galleries of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, visitors embark on a transcendent journey through time and space. The museum's collection spans across civilizations and epochs, showcasing artworks that range from ancient artefacts to modern masterpieces. Each piece is carefully curated to highlight the interconnectedness of human culture, emphasizing shared narratives that transcend geographical boundaries.
In essence, the Etihad Museum and the Louvre Abu Dhabi, though distinct in their focus and location, collectively contribute to the narrative of Dubai's commitment to preserving tradition, embracing the arts, and fostering a global cultural dialogue. Together, they embody the spirit of a region that values its past while actively shaping a future that resonates with creativity, diversity, and mutual understanding.
Conclusion:
Dubai's aesthetic marvel is not merely about towering skyscrapers or extravagant malls; it is a symphony of tradition and modernity, a ballet of history and innovation. As the city continues to evolve, it maintains a delicate balance between honouring its roots and embracing the future. Dubai's aesthetic is a living testament to the notion that a city can be both a dazzling beacon of modernity and a custodian of its cultural identity. In this delicate dance, Dubai emerges not just as a city but as a living, breathing work of art.

Frattare & J.Major This new image of NGC 2264, also known as the “Christmas Tree Cluster,” shows the shape of a cosmic tree with the glow of stellar lights. NGC 2264 is, in fact, a cluster of young stars — with ages between about one and five million years old — in our Milky Way about 2,500 light-years away from Earth. The stars in NGC 2264 are both smaller and larger than the Sun, ranging from some with less than a tenth the mass of the Sun to others containing about seven solar masses. This new composite image enhances the resemblance to a Christmas tree through choices of color and rotation. The blue and white lights (which blink in the animated version of this image) are young stars that give off X-rays detected by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory. Optical data from the National Science Foundation’s WIYN 0.9-meter telescope on Kitt Peak shows gas in the nebula in green, corresponding to the “pine needles” of the tree, and infrared data from the Two Micron All Sky Survey shows foreground and background stars in white. This image has been rotated clockwise by about 160 degrees from the astronomer’s standard of North pointing upward, so that it appears like the top of the tree is toward the top of the image. This image has been rotated clockwise by about 160 degrees from the astronomer’s standard of North pointing upward, so that it appears like the top of the tree is toward the top of the image. Young stars, like those in NGC 2264, are volatile and undergo strong flares in X-rays and other types of variations seen in different types of light. The coordinated, blinking variations shown in this animation, however, are artificial, to emphasize the locations of the stars seen in X-rays and highlight the similarity of this object to a Christmas tree. In reality the variations of the stars are not synchronized. The variations observed by Chandra and other telescopes are caused by several different processes. Some of these are related to activity involving magnetic fields, including flares like those undergone by the Sun — but much more powerful — and hot spots and dark regions on the surfaces of the stars that go in and out of view as the stars rotate. There can also be changes in the thickness of gas obscuring the stars, and changes in the amount of material still falling onto the stars from disks of surrounding gas. NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center manages the Chandra program. The cluster, known as NGC 2264, is in our Milky Way Galaxy, about 2,500 light-years from Earth. Some of the stars in the cluster are relatively small, and some are relatively large, ranging from one tenth to seven times the mass of our Sun. In this composite image, the cluster’s resemblance to a Christmas tree has been enhanced through image rotation and color choices. Optical data is represented by wispy green lines and shapes, which creates the boughs and needles of the tree shape. X-rays detected by Chandra are presented as blue and white lights, and resemble glowing dots of light on the tree. Infrared data show foreground and background stars as gleaming specks of white against the blackness of space. The image has been rotated by about 150 degrees from the astronomer’s standard of North pointing upwards. This puts the peak of the roughly conical tree shape near the top of the image, though it doesn’t address the slight bare patch in the tree’s branches, at our lower right, which should probably be turned to the corner. In this release, the festive cluster is presented as both a static image, and as a short animation. In the animation, blue and white X-ray dots from Chandra flicker and twinkle on the tree, like the lights on a Christmas tree. Trektober/Spocktober 2023!
Fuck it, I've decided to tackle a -tober drawing challenge for the first time in 4 years! I'm gonna be doing a combo of Trektober (Star Trek themed prompts) and Spocktober (Spock every day!), since my brain is on Star Trek lockdown atm.
In previous years, I've gotten about a week in and given up. I tried the official Inktober (2017 prompt list) in September 2018, then actual Inktober in 2018, then also in 2019, and the farthest I got was day 8 (Sept. 2018). I think my failure was due to being like "Yeah I'll just draw whatever strikes me each day, it's cool if I paint or use markers or--" and getting completely overwhelmed.
So, this year, I am setting some guidelines for myself:
Only inks. Literally just pen and ink. Nothing else.
Well, I'm allowed to do pencil undersketches. But those are only allowed to take 15 minutes, and the inking is only allowed to take 15 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes for each prompt (that way if I fall behind it shouldn't take too long to catch up... I hope...)
Thumbnailing ideas in advance. Takes the pressure off of sketching!
Set page size and notebook: all of these are gonna be A5 and in my main multimedia sketchbook so that if I want to paint them later I can
Post once weekly. In previous years I was trying to post every day, which was stressful and irritating, so instead I'm gonna post them in batches of seven. Or maybe four, actually. Uhhhh. We'll see??
EDIT:
The time limit is not happening, we're just going on vibes
I'm gonna post daily instead but with a delay so I can queue posts in advance
My main goals this October are:
To have fun :3
To get used to finishing drawings
To get used to posting them, too!
To have fun :3
To improve my sketching and lineart skills
To end up with a bunch of finished drawings (of Spock!!!) :3
To let go of a bit of my perfectionism
TO HAVE FUN :3
If this goes to shit and I don't get it all done, I'm still gonna be happy I tried. This is a warning to future me. Don't be a dick.
#original poast#artie talks#This is primarily a post for myself hence it being non-rebloggable#but I'm posting it here to hold myself accountable#and also in case anyone is looking forward to more of my art#there will be an amount! soon!#probably!#I am also doing something new and sketching in advance#so ideally most days should just have 15 mins inking#well. i was gonna sketch in advance. but I spent all of saturday sleep deprived and daydreaming about mcspirk so#I spent so long trying to decide whether to do a -tober that I was completely blindsided by it being october#next time I'll decide in advance and get the thumbnails and sketches started early#but oh well#here we go!
