I do not care what the SessRin shippers have to say about this.
Taking a strong and magnificent character like Sesshoumaru, making him go through ALL that character development, and turning him into what is essentially a groomer and pedo is on the same level as GoT's final season for me. Taking art and turning it into trash.
Imagine taking one of the most GOATed characters of all time, showing him start off as an implacable teen with a temper tantrum, slowly gain more understanding about the world around him, change his views, go through so much, and then be able to not only regenerate a whole lost limb but also a freaking sword from his own body (unlike his father's fangs that had to be forged into weapons) and truly surpass his sire, have him aid in the destruction of one of the most evil villains - only to have him fall in love with the girl he took in when she was 8 years old, and go as far as to have children with her. I have not come across a single Fanfic/fanart of that ship that hasn't made me feel absolutely sick.
I have always and will continue to treat the sequel as just another SessRin Fanfic that had the budget and backing to turn it into an anime. Never anything else. It's not a sequel, to me.
P.S: I have my own issues with the InuKag ship and hence believe Inuyasha and Kagome would have been better off as friends and SessKag could have been a real thing in a real sequel.

The Moon Turns the Tide
Chapter 7
For @crescent-dreams SessKag Fest day 7 prompt: garden
Summary: After a stroke of bad fortune, Kagome’s life is uprooted. She is moved into an unfamiliar community where she expects life will be very different- and much more miserable- than she’d hoped. But luck, as she’s learned, can turn on a dime.
Also read on: AO3
———————————————————————
The next days were a whirlwind.
Lady Akamine was a force on a normal day, but party planning Akamine was… terrifying.
Every single day had time set aside to practice and learn the dances they would do- tho Kagome was happy to note that they weren’t remotely as complicated and stiff as city dances- and Lady Akamine insisted on dragging her around to help pick out table settings, floral arrangements, table linens, candles, and then there’s was the dress fittings.
She hadn’t expected a ball, so she hadn’t brought anything more formal than dinner dresses, which Lady Akamine would absolutely not allow her to wear to a ball. And despite protests, her mother assured her they could come up with enough money for one new, simple dress, which ended up being for naught, as Lady Akamine insisted on paying anyway.
And doing all the dressing and choosing.
And primping.
And making suggestive comments about a certain Inu.
“We really are only friends, Lady Akamine. Mr. Taisho’s company has been very pleasant. But he’s not made any proposals.”
“Many a proposal started with long walks in gardens, lovey.”
“But not every walk in a garden is the start of a proposal.”
“Touché. Not this color, bring something deeper. And where are your luxury fabrics, these are barely suitable for a garden picnic!”
“Yes madam.”
Kagome sighed as the bolts of fabric she’d been looking at were whisked away and another selection put in their places.
“Now that’s more like it. Oh, this one, I think.”
Lady Akamine held up a corner of a lush, deep purple velvet against her cheek.
“Look how it makes your eyes just glow.”
It did look nice with the bright blue color of her eyes, she would give her that, but Kagome thought the color would compliment something else entirely.
Something much more like a moon on the brow of a beautiful male.
She chewed her lip as anxiety began creeping up her spine.
It was one thing for lady Akamine to make her comments, but such an overt sign on her own body….
Well, their friendship was nice while it lasted.
———————-
The garden was just about her only respite.
Lady Akamine rarely went too deeply into the garden, so when she really needed to escape, Kagome dashed in to find a hidden corner somewhere to breathe for a moment.
Today, she needed to process the news her mother had given her just that morning, that they would be leaving to go back to the city the morning after the ball.
It had been too much time away from the husband hunt, apparently.
Despite how overwhelmed she’d been with ball planning, she already missed the mountains, the people, how similar life was here to her home. The cool, crisp air, countless trickling streams, dense forests… they hadn’t left yet and already Kagome could feel the longing in her bones to stay forever, to never leave, to let the mountains breathe back in the life and vitality that the city sucked away.
But growing up was often harder than you imagined it would be, and she would not make things harder on her mother than they already were.
“Oh, forgive me, Miss Higurashi.”
“Mr. Taisho, I… it’s alright. I’m not reading or anything, just breathing.”
“I did not know you would be here. The flowers dull my sense of smell and, truthfully, I was quite distracted. I had no intention of ambushing you without your chaperone.”
“Oh please, who cares. I’m too stressed from all this prep and planning to even worry about something like that. And I just needed a few minutes alone, that’s all. Is everything alright with you?”
“Hn. My mind is simply plagued by many thoughts. My father wrote that he will be attending the ball. He is… a boisterous presence, to say the least.”
She giggled, patting the empty seat on the bench next to her.
He sat, though kept some proper space between them.
“I’ve also been told my brother will not attend, as he has recently become engaged. Which means, my father will be on my case for being his heir, and remaining a bachelor.”
“Not interested in married life then, Mr. Taisho?”
“It is not that. Yokai live a long time, Miss Higurashi, and whoever I choose to spend that life with… I would like to know we at least get a long.”
His eyes sharpened in intensity, and her heart fluttered in her chest.
She looked away, down at where her hands were folded in her lap, and tried to shrug away her feelings.
“Yes, it seems… daunting to pick a spouse. I’ve watched many people court, and then quickly enter betrothals and marriages after barely knowing each other. It seems so… frightening, to tie oneself to a stranger.”
“Or lonely.”
“Yes, that too. Lonely and frightening.”
“Miss Higurashi!” She heard in the distance, the sound of her chaperone finally catching up.
“Oh I must go, but thank you for talking with me, Mr. Taisho. I admit our conversations always make my mood feel considerably lighter.”
As she tried to stand he took her hand and pulled her to her feet. She nodded in thanks, but as she tried to pull away, she held fast.
“Call me Sesshomaru. At least when we are alone.”
She felt her cheeks flame, eyes going wide as her jaw fell open in delighted shock.
This was a level of intimacy she had never expected from him, this being who’d been so lofty and untouchable to everyone else.
Once again he’d made her feel special, like she’d been chosen over all others- even just for friendship.
Overcome, she smiled softly and squeezed his hand.
“Then please, call me Kagome.”
“Miss Higurashi, this is most unusual! Where are you?!”
“I’ll see you at dinner, Kagome.”
“Goodbye… Sesshomaru.”
—————
“My Lady, I thought it appropriate to inform you that, once the ball has concluded, we’ll be taking our leave.”
“Leaving?! You’re leaving?! There’s no need to leave!”
“But we’ve already intruded on your hospitality for long enough, and we do have business to attend to in the city. Unless…”
“Unless?”
Kagome braced herself. Looking down at her slice of roasted beef, she tried not to pinch her eyes shut too tightly as she readied herself for what she knew her mother would say.
“I don’t… wish to be crass or improper but… how many bachelors do you believe will be in attendance?”
“Ah, business. The business of marriage. Well, I’d say there will be… an impressive selection.”
“Really?” Her mother replied, and Kagome had to admit, that was probably the most forward and assertive she’d ever been. “Well, perhaps the gods will look down on us in favor, and we will be permitted to stay.”
“You’d be permitted to stay either way,” Lady Akamine mumbled under her breath, waving away a servant offering her more salad.
Kagome risked a sneaky glance over at Sesshomaru, and her heart stopped to find his eyes already on her.

Bad Boy, a SessKag Fanfiction
Written for @gilded-sapphire's SessKag Fest 2023! -> Read on Ao3
Summary: He was the type she never knew she had, the type she couldn’t resist.
Excerpt:
It had been there from the beginning, if Kagome thought back on it. From the first time she’d seen Sesshoumaru smirking down at her from that monstrous oni’s shoulder. From the first time he’d disdained her as a ‘creature,’ and then, still looking down his nose at her in disbelieving contempt, had the gall to demand of her, ‘What are you?’—even after she’d done what he couldn’t and pulled Tessaiga from the stone.
It had been there later, when she’d shattered the spiked pauldron of his armor with her sacred arrow. When he’d plucked her next shining shot from midair and slanted his golden eyes toward her in a glare that could have scorched through solid stone. When he’d phased from view with a flicker only to reappear just before her, looming over her in open menace, and she’d met his searing eye dead-on—and if it hadn’t been for Inuyasha coming to her rescue, she didn’t know even now just what might have gone down between them.
She had the sense she wasn’t the only one who still wondered darkly about this.
Because it couldn’t just be in her head—of that, she was becoming increasingly certain. It was too tangible, too electric, this shared current of scintillating animosity that sparked to life between them whenever they were near.
It was something that went beyond the frisson of youki and reiki, something more primal, more raw and visceral than that kind of elementary clash. Something deeply personal.
He knew her name, and he called her ‘miko’ anyway. How could she not take that personally? The more their paths crossed, the more he chafed at her. His arrogance, his demonic condescension. He thought he was so powerful, so high and mighty. With flashing eyes, Kagome traced the smug, aristocratic lines of his inhuman face, and felt his own slit-pupiled stare scoring over her mortal self just as keenly.
No one else noticed these unspoken, heated exchanges. This was a private cold war they were waging, though why and to what end remained unclear. But the focus seemed to sharpen a bit more each time they crossed paths, pointed glance on pointed glance.
He’d taken in a little orphan girl. He'd stopped trying to wrest Tessaiga from Inuyasha. By and by, he’d turned his bloodthirst on Naraku instead. Sesshoumaru wasn’t a total monster. But he was still an infuriating prick. He made her teeth grind in indignation when he spoke about her to others as if she wasn’t standing right there. He made her blood boil with his cool glinting looks and scathing half-smiles.
The worst of it was, she couldn’t stop thinking about him.
He made her furious, and it made her even more furious that she was so furious in the first place. She resented that just by being a jerk, he’d hijacked her emotions in this nefarious way. It was maddening. The only silver lining to her internal fuming over him was that it distracted her from the fact that Inuyasha was still hung up on Kikyou.
Kagome didn’t even realize he’d gone off again to meet up with her until she and her friends were sitting around the campfire, and she felt everyone’s eyes resting uncertainly on her. She’d been scowling again without realizing it, re-hashing the last time Sesshoumaru had gone out of his way to subtly antagonize her. She could only imagine the dark stormclouds that were shadowing her features and disconcerting her friends, who could only assume she was ruminating over Inuyasha and Kikyou.
“Oh,” she said suddenly, dispersing her thunderous expression with a smile and a wave, “sorry—I’m okay.”
“Are you sure, Kagome-chan?” Sango asked, frowning.
Kagome nodded, beaming back at her. “I was just lost in thought, that’s all. We’ve had a long day, haven’t we?”
Over the course of dinner, she managed to reassure her wary friends. The last thing she wanted to do was worry them, especially over something she couldn’t begin to put into words anyway.
This ratcheting whipcord of tension between her and Sesshoumaru—
Kagome felt there was nothing for her to do except to wait for it to break.

Ahhh I really wanted to contribute to Sesskag Fluff Week so I started a draft weeks ago but then kiddo got down with a stomach flu and I think I caught her bug. Anyways I wanted to share this gnarly piece for Day 5 - First Kiss. Imagining where Sess and Kags are just normal high school kids and Kags is like “meet me at the rooftop” and initiates their first kiss, and Sess is like O_O even tho he looks cool here.
PS this is for you @chierafied, thank you for your dedication!

Made scribble in a SessKag discord I'm a part of based on the prompt "Golden". The focus is (of course) Sesshoumaru's golden eye color. I imagine this is a situation where Sesshoumaru came to sit with Kagome in the evening-much to her surprise. He's not wearing armor for one reason or another. During their small conversation, he teases Kagome a bit about something and waits for her reaction. So we get a rare smirk and an eyebrow lift here. For Kagome, this is the "Oh no he's hot and I might be Interested™️!!" moment.
(I'm not happy with the Kagome, but I was too lazy to fix it lol)

**WIP SHARE** Beneath the Eternal Blue Sky
🧡 Hello. 🧡
It's been a month. I know I've posted more lately than I have in a long time, even if just largely focusing on drabbles and shorter vignettes. That's what life allows right now, so I'm managing within the boundaries of that. But I do still work on other longer fics, the excerpt below being my primary focus right now. It's a project. Nothing about Beneath the Eternal Blue Sky is short or easy for me, but it's my SessKag passion project. So, I'm sharing a little of it. It will be a good long while before it's ready to launch on fic sites, but I may share little bits like this here and there just because it helps me to share what I enjoy as I work on it.
So, to anyone interested, this is just a little bit from the very beginning. It's, of course, subject to editing or changes later, but for the moment, here's a snippet:
************************************************************************
Dawn broke.
From the doorway of her home, Kagome sat, silent. The equinox sun crept into the sky and cast its first rays, golden streaks raking over the land. They weakened winter’s chill and melted it away with each crawling inch, and she drew up her knees, resting her cheek on them as she watched and ignored the emptiness that threatened to swallow her heart where it beat in her chest.
She blinked, slowly; the light continued to spread.
Another morning in a sea of many—another in which she had already been awake for hours. The hollow feeling in her chest should have been familiar by now, but even as she held vigil to spring’s arrival, waiting for the village to awaken below the hill where her small house sat, that hollowness held her as tightly as it had all those years ago when everything had changed and came crashing down.
A thick knot blocked her throat, and she swallowed it back as the first signs of life began to stir below. It was the same day in and day out.
Cocks crowed.
A water buffalo lowed.
The emptiness where her heart lay ached.
She blew a heavy breath through her cheeks, the tired voices of the villagers joining babies’ cries as the day’s first cooking fires perfumed the air. Sleepy mothers woke sleepier children, the din of men readying for morning chores blending into the burgeoning bedlam. It was entirely normal and mundane, a repetition of moments she had memorized over the ten years since she had returned, but the familiarity was not the comfort she had once imagined it would be.
No, comfort had long eluded her.
Pushing the thought aside, Kagome leaned into the side of her doorway, letting her head knock against the wood. The sun was almost above the horizon now, its transmutation of orange into yellow settling into day, and she looked out over the field that stood between her home and the woods. The fog had not yet burned away, though it would soon enough.
A faint rumble gnawed at her stomach, disturbing the morning’s peace. She ignored it, not yet ready to face the responsibilities waiting. As long as she sat here, clinging to the last lingering shades of grey, the heaviness that followed her day in and day out wouldn’t be real. Or, so she told herself.
A rustle sounded in the woods, and Kagome straightened, eyes narrowing slightly as she peered through the mists. Her home was situated away from others, secluded. She had found solace in the location, grateful for the solitude it allowed. But that solitude came with its own risks—risks her friends had protested when she picked the spot, claiming the outskirts of the village were too dangerous and too unstable for a single woman. But the isolation had been needed, and she had not regretted it once.
Even in moments like this.
Eyes still on the forest’s edge, she reached just inside, her fingertips brushing the bow she kept ready. The quiver sat beside it, and she hooked her little finger through its strap, ready to pull both it and the weapon into her hands. But before she could, there was another rustle and a white figure emerged from the foliage and underbrush.
The tension seeped away.
Across the field to the woods, more wraith-like than tangible, Sesshoumaru stepped out, half shrouded by the morning’s transient vapors. If he had noticed her alarm, he did not let on and simply continued through the tall grass with only a cursory glance her way.
She lifted her hand, giving a small wave.
He stopped.
For a moment, she held her breath. Golden irises caught the sunrise as they fixed on her, their unearthly glow—visible even from the distance—a reminder of his otherness and lack of humanity. But she wasn’t afraid. Any fear of the youkai lord had disappeared years before, time having proved him a reliable ally. The sense of awe with these inhuman qualities always remained, however, reminders that, despite everything boring and dull, there were still fantastical things to be seen.
It was those reminders that made her losses a bit more bearable.
Dusting off her hands, Kagome stood when he changed direction and headed toward her, quickly tucking the thought away. It wasn’t worth dwelling on now.
“Tea?”
It was asked quietly, hardly more than a whisper. But as expected, his sharp hearing picked up her voice, and he gave a brief nod that she could only just make out when he was halfway across the field.
Hooking the noren on the doorway to let him know to come in, she went inside.
A kettle hung over the hearth, hot water ready and waiting as was custom for her every morning, and it took no effort to fill a teapot large enough for two with leaves and set it brewing. As it steeped, she retrieved two cups—one her only remaining token of the home she had left in the future.
Kagome paused, turning the ceramic yunomi in her hand. It was a silly thing covered in cross-eyed squid that had made her mother and her laugh too loudly for public when they saw it on the store shelf. But she had bought it anyway and taken it with, the memory tied to the cup one that she would always cherish when she drank from it.
She missed Mama, terribly.
A soft rustling disturbed her thoughts. Choking back the emotion suddenly rising in her throat, she looked up to see Sesshoumaru enter. The noren swished as it fell shut behind him, and his eyes settled on the cup still cradled in her hands before sliding to hers. Slowly.
Her ears burned. “You don’t have to drink from this.”
There was no response, no outward sign that he’d heard. Brilliant citrine eyes, dulled by the dimness of her home, simply stared. Seeing what exactly only he knew, but their preternatural stillness unnerved her almost more than guessing at his thoughts. Kagome quickly retrieved another cup—plain, dull earthenware—and set it alongside the silly one.
It was almost as absurd for a lord such as Sesshoumaru.
Lips tight and pressed, she looked down as she shuffled across the hut to retrieve her kettle. “It’s been a while since we’ve seen you.”
To be continued...

Ever since Sessrin became canon, the antis have just lost the plot- like, literally- and are copium spamming Sesskag on r/Yashahime and r/Inuyasha and, because the best opinions are unsolicited, here's mine: no.
more below, longish ♡
The thing with Literature and canon is, if you didn't see it, it didn't happen. That logic obv doesn't work in real life, but we're in Imagination Land rn. Canonically, Sess discovered the magic of empathy and, after roughly a year of travelling together, left Rin with Kaede's village. His whole thing was giving her a sense of agency and human companionship. But not once do we, the audience, see him do or say anything lascivious towards her.
What if I said, "I can't believe you guys would support a bank robber! Inuyasha prob wiped out someone's life savings!" you guys would be like, bitch, where?! Exactly. Honestly, it says something about a fan or audience member that they can stir themselves into a froth over a headcanon.
I think it reflects a lot of American Calvinist-inherited purity culture versus the total not-that of feudal era Japan too. There's only so deep you can compare sexual mores before you start realizing you're comparing apples to oranges. If you'd like a baby-level intro, YouTuber Linfamy does super entertaining breakdowns of life in early Japan.
Idk. I've been a fan since my childhood, and while Yashahime isn't perfect to me, that's ok, and I *am* super happy that Sess gets a more in-depth redemption arc.

Sesskag has such a huge fanfiction community (they almost have as many fics as inukag) but not so much people talking about it outside of it. Since the ship is borderline crack it barely comes up in ship wars either (meanwhile inukik comes up constantly but the actual transformative side of their fanbase is very small wether it's fanarts or fics)
You get the obvious/borderline/canon ships whose relationship got focused on the most within the work, that are largely the most preferred (read: the one with the most content due to already having massive amount of materials to work within canon) and acknowledged by even non-shippers (in this blog I can name inukag and soma)
Then there's the ship that just has almost an equal substance in canon that's also often acknowledged even by non-shippers and whose fanbase made a significant noise within the fandom, often butting heads with the obvious more popular ship as a result. But for some reason, perhaps due to the ship's rather rigid nature within canon, the fanbase struggled to make more complex content such as fics (in this blog there's inukik and croma)
But then you have ships like the aforementioned sesskag, complete crack, absolutely no basis in canon, but the fanbase has such a huge imagination the lack of any substance in canon is perceived as a blank canvas instead.

are you still doing the thing where you give random facts about your story? if not its ok
Absolutely! I am always up for sharing things about my longfic! That goes for the characters too! And not just my longfic, but any of my fics in general! Honestly, I don't think I know a single author that doesn't want to talk about their fics lol, so never be afraid to ask :D
*Digs through old posts to so I can remember which facts I've already shared* Ah, here it is!
Okay, new rando fact (pasting below cut so people can choose to ignore if they want)
My longfic exists in the same universe as another persons AU from another fandom...they just don't know it.
'OMG how can you drop that on us and not explain?!?!' <- What I imagine everyone thinks about the above line. Don't worry, I plan to lol
In case it isn't obvious by my username, I love Sesshomaru from the anime 'Inuyasha'. One of the first fandoms I read fics for on FFN was the Inuyasha fandom (waaaay back pre-2010). I don't usually do the whole OTP thing, but there is one fic that has solidified SessKag as my OTP (Sesshomaru x Kagome).
That fic is called 'The Broken Miko' by Rosie B over on FFN.
So how does my longfic fit into that AU? The end of that fic talks about Sesshomaru and Kagome existing alongside humans in the modern era. In chapter 41 of longfic (chapter grouping 15 on AO3), the following line is mentioned:
Here in Domino, there are Yokai that she's made alliances with that have helped in creating extra barriers that keep you out of sight of her enemies.
That line is was intended. It was my subtle nod to state that Kat had made an alliance with Sesshomaru from Rosie B's fic to create a barrier of sorts around the city. I like to imagine that Domino is located within that particular Demon Lord's territory lol.
#answered ask#anon ask#fun facts about longfic#asks about any of my stories and/or characters are always welcome!#i leave anon so that you don't have to be afraid to ask things :)
