Do we just keep telling the same story forever? Meta on OFMD S1E7 "This is Happening"

In this S1E7, two characters--Ed and Jim--have to answer a simple question: Am I ready to tell a diferent story?

At the start of the episode, Ed's framing his time on Stede's ship as "sitting idle." He's thinking about preparing for the next adventure, whatever that may be--the next chapter in a story he knows and understands. Because there are rules. A ship has only one captain.

When Stede tries to prove that Ed can tell the next chapter in that story without leaving the Revenge, Ed is pretty unapologetic in his disdain. But he does come along, even while moaning and complaining.

And Stede's just trying to tell the same story, too. What he imagines a pirate's tale is supposed to be, not what it actually is. He doesn't recognize the difference between nonsense and truth, he's so caught up in "entertaining" Ed that he doesn't realize he needs to feed Ed.

But in fairness to Stede, Ed has a poor grip on what he really wants as well. When he fantasizes as he flirts with Stede, he's not imagining a swashbuckling adventure. He's imagining opening a restaurant. He's half in his old life, and half out.

Lucius, the unemotional observer, figures all this out of course.

He sees that Ed is absolutely very receptive to Stede, and that Stede is crazy about Ed. But Ed is caught up in who he's been, without seriously considering how to move forward in this story he's in now. So Lucius confronts Ed. He points out that Ed's story as it is going now ends one way: pain and loneliness. And he asks if Ed wants that.

Stede didn't want Ed to leave, so he told a story about treasure hunting. And Ed doesn't want to leave and be alone again, so he tells the story too. And by telling that story together, Ed and Stede find their way to the same place: beginning a new chapter. Imagining a life they can live together, without devaluing or overwriting anything that came before.

It sounds nice, although it's shallow (Ed's not going to be happy as a pirate, Stede is bad at telling this pirate's story and he'll never be a successful traditional pirate). But it's still a hopeful story, because they're still moving forward. Right on the edge of telling a different story.

And resolving in the opposite direction is Jim's plot. Jim's story is relentlessly upbeat and funny in this ep, but it's a tragedy through and through. Jim, like Ed, is half in their old life and half out. Has been with Olu for more than a year, without actually doing anything, while keeping him at a distance.

And it turns out they were "raised by a nun to be a killing machine." That Nana projected all her own trauma and righteousness onto Jim, and passed cruel judgement when Jim says that they already killed "the only one that matters." When Jim suggests that they might have moved on, and be ready to tell another story.

Jim regresses in this episode. They let Olu walk away instead of telling a new story with him, one where he's their family. They take the petrified orange as a sign that they should go back to being who Nana told them they were, to being obsessed with revenge. But really, it's more like a warning of what they'll become if they cling to the same old story.

It's sad. And it's a painful foreshadowing of what awaits Ed and Stede when they falter on the path forward, when they think their past defines their future. When they tell someone else's story, instead of their own.

I definetly think Kyra appreciates and treasures Yumi’s friendship ALOT. Like. Seriously 😭

Yumi makes her feel like just a normal teenage girl, and it makes her so unbelivably happy!!! Even if she doesn’t say it outloud, she adores Yumi and looks forward to hanging out with her!! I’d go as far as to say she’d probably be one of her best friends.

I mentioned this before in the past— but Kyra loves anyone whos considered “weird”. She thinks theyre so fun, and the more eccentric the better! And she loves Yumi a lot !! /p

She enjoys listening to her yap about whatever is on her mind, even if she is a little boy crazy which she can’t exactly relate to, but she really tries her best to !!

^^ In an attempt to try and relate to her in that aspect she definetly started talking about Floyd despite her not realizing how she feels for him yet LMAO

Kyra ADORESS her style !! She loves how she always changes up her look, and how colorful she is!! She thinks Yumi is sooo pretty, and likes to play with her hair !!

Always invites her out on her escapades to do— seven knows what, it’ll end in chaos regardless if she means to or not, but either way it’ll be fun. And she loves having fun with her friends !!

Kyra would definetly act as some sort of wingwoman for Yumi, somehow always giving Yumi and Jade the chance to be alone (she usually drags Floyd into it to help her HEHE)

Kyra is especially interested in her rollerblading !!! Shes never heard or seen anything like it before, so shes really curious! Definetly asks Yumi to teach her how to rollerblade!

^^ after alot, ALOT of tripping, and failing, and running into things— Kyra eventually gets the hang of it !! And maybe they go out to town just rollerblading around, chatting and hanging out wherever they feel like at the moment!!!

Whenever Kyra feels like doing something spnontaneous, if not Floyd she’ll call up Yumi to see if she wants to join her! Whether its going out to get ice cream at 2 AM, or pranking one of the dorms, she’ll invite Yumi in on the fun :33

She likes doing the cliche things teenage girls do with Yumi. Like I said earlier, it makes her feel normal. Like shes human, and she really appreciates it. Even if its a little cheesey, she adores every little moment of it, and she hopes that they stay friends forever <3

Well, they ended up being sisters in law so, wish granted!!

I have a friend of mine that's depressed, and suicidal (yeah actually even I'm tryna help her state of mental health) she always try to make sad or depressing jokes, but 2 days ago she said something that's stuck in my head for a while. She said ‘‘people who get to die are such damn lucky b*stards’’ actually this seems like some sort of thing that our society terms suicide as ‘passing on the pain to the others’ But for me, as someone who's into non dualism finds it interesting.

Like people who die, means they leave the physical realm, are lucky? Like is death inevitable for us pure awarenesses? I think not cus you entirely leave your physical realm once you die. Actually ik there's no start or an end for all of us. Suppose we plan on a reincarnation or something in this reality, and we leave our physical realm (which is an illusion ofc) we can definitely wake up wherever we want to right? So suicidal people intend and plan to reincarnate in a better place? I mean just help me out lol, there's a lot of questions going on in my head.

u know that feeling u get when you're going through something so good and u think "wow I'll never feel this exact same way ever again" well I got that feeling from this fic val I want to look at ur brain for a bit

but in all seriousness, badlands (and waterloo as a whole) is so phenomenal; it's like, becoming my new roman empire. i don't know if i have ever been so in love with dazai before, but if i wasn't already, it completely sold me.

the attention to detail, the dialogue, the characterization was so fantastic. like, when i wasn't gaping at the plot details, i was fangirling over your writing style, because it was legitimately so perfect. like, please LEND ME some of your characterization prowess. The days of the Summer slip by quietly, each sunset moving then closer to a train ride that will drive them apart. If once Harry counted down the days to September 1st, crossing the days diligently on the calendar, now every time he looks at the date there is a twist inside him, something unpleasant like falling just as you are trying to sleep. It reminds him too much of those days a little over one year ago, when he knew he was about to break up with Ginny.

It is not the same, he tells himself more than once, and so does Ginny when a reporter loudly asks how they will deal now with the months apart. “It is a pause,” she tells him seriously, and Harry nods in agreement. If before he couldn’t see the future, now he can picture it, a dozen scenarios that are bright and colourful. Hopeful.

It is a pause, not an ending.

Harry has learned long ago that dreading something doesn’t make it easier nor slows down time; so he tries not thinking about it. Ginny makes it easy for him; her kisses render time meaningless. They hold hands and walk and discuss plans for the future that edge on illusion and grandness or are boringly, amazingly real; they learn touches and how to read each other's sighs and this is even better than all those memories that Harry treasured in secluded corners of Hogwarts.

"I am so lucky to be able to live this life with you," he says honestly afterwards, as they are laying together in her bed, with Ginny’s head over his chest.

Her breath catches; Ginny raises her head to look at him, eyes sparkling.

"I love you," she whispers, and though it is not the first time she has said it, the words warm him as much as the moment they just shared.

Of course it does; they slept together because they are in love. 

Harry loves her and this time he knows what he needs to say. Love has been around in his life since forever; first his parents, then something ethereal as a magical protection. Love has saved him many times, but when Harry thinks about love as a concept, he thinks of facing death (a blazing look; the feel of her lips over his) and coming back.

"I love you too," he answers, the words leaving his lips as easily as the days of the summer slipping by and just as unstoppable. 

Ginny smiles at him, just a hint of surprise in her eyes, but there is no fanfare, no excitement as this declaration should elate, and suddenly Harry prefers it like this. It’s not explosive; it’s a statement.

"I had never told this to anyone," he admits.

"You had, Harry," she tells him, and though he doesn’t get what she is saying, he accepts her lips and there isn’t any discussion about this. 

(It will be years before he understands it. By then, it will be a summer night and Ginny will be trying to tuck little Lily for the night — tucking her is the easiest part, keeping her there is another altogether. She will make an agreement with her — one story and the lights will be off — and then Lily will ask her: “Mum? How did you know Dad loved you?”

A smile. “He told me.”

“Was it romantic? With flowers?”

A sparkling warm laugh. “No, no. Some people said it loudly, but your dad—he said he was lucky to live his life with me, but what he meant was that he loved me.”)

Seren's Studies: Odd Squad UK -- "Odd Ones In" Episode Followup, Part 1

May the days of the whiteness of the Big O's desk be forever remembered in favor of this thing that flashbanged me and made me nearly drop my glasses.

No, guys, seriously. I am looking at this thing. It is floating. Why is it floating.

But enough whining. It's October 1st and that means Odd Squad UK has officially premiered! With it, we get a bunch of episodes that have been graciously pulled by a friend, @personinthepalace. Many thanks goes to them! (And all the work they've had to do throwing them up in other places where YouTube failed.)

For those unfamiliar with how these work, it's pretty standard: I watch the episode, plop screenshots into this post, and react accordingly in text form. Sadly, until I can get a new laptop and some privacy, Seren Reacts videos will be on hold.

So join me below the break for screaming, crying, and much, much asking of "did I hear that right", "what did they say?" and "hi doctor, I might need hearing aids".

With huge props to those who guessed Captain O would be doing the intro, in line with how Oprah used to do it in the past in order to not spoil new characters.

It's funny because from what I've seen, Captain O goes out onto the field a lot more and doesn't just play the role of Ms. Exposition. I like that change!

I'm...well...okay, maybe this doesn't surprise me given how Ozzie was literally in the first promo picture...but sure. Fine. I dig it.

Osgood has his own cookbook, and quite frankly, I'm just mad they didn't give Oksana one. You're telling me the girl cuts food with diamonds and she doesn't have her own cookbook? Piss off the roof and pray it rains.

Look, I was there when people went nuts over Oprah bringing all six main characters (at the time) back for a cameo in the intro. I went nuts. It was beautiful!

This just doesn't hit the same. It tried to aim for my heart and instead got me in the nose.

Most of the stuff in here is taken from the trailer, but there is some new stuff here too, like Captain O giving a big "fuck you" to what I have to assume is a construction worker seeking help on a nearby project.

...Look, I'm a dumb lil' American. You are bound to get fed misinformation up the wazoo. I am bound to not use Google because I am allowed not to and also I am lazy and tired. Don't ask me how shit works.

Ah yes, I see that, in addition to upgrading the special effects used for exiting the tubes, they also upgraded the special effects and animation used for riding the tubes themselves.

Once again, I will point to "Down the Tubes" for a comparison and ask you which one looks better to you. My vote is down easy.

This is a wooden ship and they have couch cushions.

Here...Tim and Adam have done nothing egregious, but it's still jarring to not see their names up here. They're not showrunners, but give the men some credit, damn it!

I gotta say, one second in and I'm already digging this episode. Most Precure episodes I watch don't even get that far enough in to make me say "wow!"

But oh man is this Tube Lobby crazy retro. I mean if the film reels back there didn't give it away...

And your writer for this episode! Mark is basically a pioneer within the franchise, having written some fantastic episodes that, if I listed them all, would derail the entire followup. He's got strong writing chops and I can't wait to see what he does with this one. Basically, if you see his name pop up, you know shit's gonna be real good.

And your...ah...producer. I don't think we've ever seen a producer credit on here before. The name's not familiar, so I'll assume she's one of the British staff and hope she can work her magic better than 70% of Season 3's writers.

Not even past the first ten seconds yet and already I've spotted my first criticism: the audio balancing.

I went into the gadget competition video thinking it would be fixed. Much to my dismay, it has not, and that means my eardrum hairs will have to suffer for a good 22 minutes.

...

Scratch that and make it 12 episodes' worth.

To my body, I am so sorry in advance.

And your director for this episode. This guy had an interview regarding references in Odd Squad UK that I unfortunately never found, even after asking about it and spreading the word around. Quite a shame, but now that the show's here, I can go play Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon: Delusion Edition and cry profusely.

Honestly, as much as I want to be a sour realist and say that no one is this excited walking into work...I'm more focused on the planet/glowing Perplexus maze ball/good God what is that Seymour.

The guy has his own cheer team waiting for him when he comes into the bullpen, and either this is some weird-ass Department of Help perk or this is the happiest Odd Squad precinct I have ever seen in 10 years.

See, Otto was a happy guy. Olympia was a happy gal. Omar was a happy guy. Where are their cheerleading teams, hehh?? Where are their teams?!

Just to note: the last time we ever saw a PA system used by a Director was -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- Oprah in "The Jackies", a good 10 years ago.

The fact it's become a mainstay for Captain O and her precinct is a lovely bit of continuity, if unintentional.

I remember seeing part of this set a long time ago in a BTS photo. Nice to see another angle of it!

I like the seafaring stuff in here too. Scuba helmet, what looks to be maps of islands, a telescope...the only funny thing is that Ozzie staring down Captain O here is the equivalent of Otis staring down Orson aaaaaaaaand I can't get that out of my head now. Beautiful. Thank you.

As if the Oona image Easter egg wasn't enough, they have to go and reference toast again?

I'm not even mad, this literal humor is on-brand and hilarious, but this being the 10th anniversary series, it's funny they choose to reference this and not Sheila.

Either I'm trippin' like hell or this is the live-action equivalent of needing background characters to fill up spaces in a scene.

And just like that, 13 chances for name-drops of past "living legend" agents were shot with bullets going into all the crucial arteries in the bodies.

How does he know about Orli? Who the fuck knows! He's got a better chance of knowing about the 13 "living legend" agents in question than some girl working behind a goddamn waterfall!!

You ever watch Adult Swim and it cuts right from the show to an ident scene?

That's what this is. Only there's no ident, it's mid-episode, and it's so sudden that it's like half of the ASMR memes on the Internet that jumpscare you.

"So you are the new nightguard." William who is pretending to be Dave asks you, you are such a lovely woman, he could not help but stare a bit. At the very least desire in him.

He stared at you for a long moment. His smile was wide, unnerving, like there was something wrong about it. It made heyour shudder a bit. He felt his heart race, the power he had over you and how innocent and soft you looked. He wanted to destroy you, but also treasure you at the same time.

"Follow me, little bunny." He says to you making you look at him oddly.

Why did he call you little bunny. You both make it to the office and began to work. William watches you as you presses the buttons. He knew that you are the one for him. Just watching you made him feel the most joy he has ever felt.

This is how it started William watching you like a hawk everytime you saw him. It only got worse as this continue. As you started to feel watched as you were out of work. To the point it feels like you always have someone's eyes on you. The feeling only went away when you were with William.

It made you at ease when you were around him. Feeling safe and sound. Though you were not safe, not one bit.

You had to check the suits tonight. So you walk up to them, the feeling of being watched back. You slowly shine your light on them. Something was leaking from the suits and it smelled of rot and death. You gag and leaned closer.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" You scream and step back dropping your light!

There was your boyfriend in the suit! You thought he just left! But no he was, he was..

You did not get to finish another thought as a hand clamps over your mouth and you hear William. "You were not supposed to find him, little bunny." He whispers in your ear. "To bad he had to be gotten rid of. Just breath my little bunny. Everything will be okay when you wake up."

He grins at you and then last thing you see is his insane smile and a look of pure obsession in his eyes.

I actually have a few different wips that I'm going to add eventually. But these are the first two I'm worried about.

Anomalous is actually an older wip that I have. It actually started very different and focused on just strange shenanigans in the town with the vampire twins as the main characters. Although, Vlad hasn't changed much except to have more depth beyond horny vampire dating a faery. The village didn't even have a name until I tore the story apart to start anew. I am a huge sucker for stories that center in a town or village that spooky scary things live in. Unfortunately those stories rarely involve anything adult or the kinds of detail stuff I like. So now I just try to write them myself. Anyways, Anomalous is my hope to have my romance and found family and supernatural drama all in one.

Now, Vlad's family isn't necessarily bad, they're not even very terrible in most regards. Vlad just has his own way of thinking and his family doesn't agree with him. They don't resent him either, there isn't any hard feelings. They both just have their own way of living. They literally just visit because the oldest of their children is finally getting married after centuries of dating. Going into the idea once I decided to focus on Vlad and Aerin I didn't want any serious over the top conflict. Drama yes, death murder slaughter no. This is suppose to be a fun while also have Vlad on the seat of his pants scared he'll be single by the time his old fashioned family leaves, if they ever do. I want to play with old fashioned vampires and supernatural town and also some getting married in there too. I also plan to try make like little bios for the characters and the town down the line when I have more time.

Originally in his back story, Vlad was suppose to have been some punk, former pirate guy obsessed with getting his vitamin D. And Aerin was his newest fling. Now I like the idea of Vlad being a punk former pirate that met the love of his life accidently and they decided to finally take the next step for the tax benefits and also that 'gross shit' called love and commitment, you know, a few centuries in. He also founded the town just so his boyfriend could have neighbors that weren't gonna chase him out of town with pitchforks and torches for being a faery.

The Dragon's Suitors is a much newer wip. I've been struck with the bachelor(ette) sort of tropes for a hot minute and I also love dragons. A lot of the details of this one are still in the works because it is so new. A lot of the wips outside of Anomalous are rather new for me.

Basically it's a love multiple triangles except not really because she has no interest in that shenanigans.

Lionel: 

Doesn’t care much for Valentine’s Day but that’s because he hasn’t celebrated it with many people before you. 

Lionel was never one to actively seek out a partner as he was focused on his work.

If Valentine’s Day is important to you then it’s important to him. If he’s still friends with Carla he would ask her for advice. 

Gets you the usual flowers and chocolates, maybe even a teddy bear. He originally planned to get you something more expensive but he wanted to keep it simple. 

When he sees how flustered you are he feels proud, even if you’re flustered over something simple.

Carla: 

This girl takes Valentine’s Day’s very seriously. She calls off work for the day and takes a month to plan. 

Carla probably gets you one of those Valentine’s gift baskets. 

She loves how flustered you are and will tease you about it. 

Despite her teasing it is very easy to flushed Carla and if you get her something she’s going to treasure it forever. 

She’d like to do something out during the day and then snuggle up to you at night. But if you prefer a calm Valentine’s Day at home she doesn’t mind.

Reggie: 

Even when he wasn’t romantically involved with someone Reggie still loved Valentine’s Day because he’s a hopeless romantic. 

He’d spend countless nights thinking about his future partner and here you are! 

Reggie knows how to fluster you but he is impossible to fluster. 

There isn’t much that can be done in the inn but he still tries his best, he makes origami flowers out of paper to make a bouquet for you. 

He’d prefer to spend his time with you just talking about how much he cares about you. 

Jeremiah:

At first Jeremiah isn’t sure what to do for Valentine’s and he starts to panic. He knows you’ll be happy with whatever he does for you but he wants it to be special. 

He goes to a bunch of different games to get you presents and such. If he finds a game that has no danger he’ll take you there. 

Both of you are probably too flustered to talk to each other and it’s funny. He has no clue if he’s doing things right so he’s incredibly nervous. 

I hc that he writes poetry so he’ll definitely write some poetry for you. 

It doesn’t matter what you get or do for him he’s going to think about it for the rest of his life. The next day he’s still smiling. 

Chef Bryce: 

Cooking is a must but he doesn’t cook for you, the both of you cook together. Bryce prefers to cook with someone and he’ll be happy to teach you. 

Both of you make so many pastries and you’re probably not going to eat all of them but they’re fun to decorate. 

He’s going to fluster you by lightly smearing frosting on your nose or throwing a bit of flour at you. It may even turn into a play fight and by the time you’re done cooking both of you are covered in frosting and flour. 

Bryce is a lot more casual about Valentine’s Day so you don’t have to worry about it being stressful or overwhelming. 

After giving away some of the pastries you made both of you just relax together unless there’s something you want to do. 

Lazarus: 

Lazarus wants to be on the same page as you so he’ll ask what you want to do for Valentine’s Day in advance. 

He’s constantly tired so he would prefer to do something more casual but he still puts effort into it. 

He goes out of his way to make himself look nice for the special day. He’ll wear something other than his armor, brush his probably knotted hair, stuff like that.

He doesn’t mean to fluster you but he does anyways. He loves to hold your hand or lean on you. On the outside he doesn’t have much of a reaction to you being flustered but he thinks it’s amusing. 

The only thing he wants to do is stay in bed and hold you. 

Chandrelle: 

If both of you are still in Secrets of Legendaria she’s going to take you sightseeing. She hates the game but it does have some pretty scenery. 

To most people she seems closed off but she’s a lot more open than people think she is and she won’t hesitate to tell you how much she loves you.

She probably flusters you with her words. Chandrelle is no poet but she has a way with worths in a casual sense.

She does whatever she can to impress you. She practices her sorcery  just so she can see the amazement in your eyes. 

Also if something or someone ruins your special day together she will not be merciful. 

Sado: 

Valentine’s Day with her is going to be the most chaotic thing imaginable. Chances are that Sado doesn’t even have a plan and is just doing things she thinks you’ll enjoy. 

You are going to be so spoiled by her. You’re going to have so many gifts from so many games. 

“I appreciate it Sado, I really do but I don’t even know how to use a sword.” 

“It’s okay, I just thought it matched the color of your eyes.”

She flusters you on a daily basis but on Valentine’s Day she does it a lot more.

Irving: 

He’s so clueless. Chances are that you’re his first romantic partner so he’s still learning how to be romantic.

Irving isn’t great about opening up about his feelings so he’ll get you a card and try to write how he feels about you in it. It’s actually really sweet. 

He flusters you with a lot of cheesy pick up lines and every time you laugh he says another one. 

I can see him slow dancing with you. It’s the complete opposite of fighting but it’s still something he enjoys, especially if it’s with you. 

Since it’s his first Valentine’s with someone he does stress out about it at first but you’re a big comfort to him.

First Person Perspective: 

Gets flustered very easily as well. 

Because he can’t really talk you’re probably the one who makes the plans for Valentine’s but if it were up to him, he’d prefer just to lounge around in bed with you. 

He wouldn’t mind stargazing or doing something as long as it’s on the calmer side of things. 

He’s an amazing artist so he’ll definitely draw you as you are his most favorite thing to draw. He loves drawing you with a smile because you’re the light of his life.

Very physically affectionate with you and he would love to be in your arms for the whole day.

Rust McClain: 

Because he spent a lot of his life in a wasteland with minimal supplies, Rust is great at crafting things. Give him a few pieces of scrap and he’s going to make you something amazing for Valentine’s. 

He’s big on compliments and it increases tenfold on Valentine’s Day. He’s also great with making you feel better about your insecurities. 

Doesn’t mind if you want to do something specific for Valentine’s he just wants to spend the day with you. 

I feel like he’s a happy crier so if you do something really sweet for him he’s going to give you a hug while shedding a few tears. 

Rust may also play some silly pranks on you just to see you laugh. 

Rebecha: 

Rebecha has been all over the game world so she can take you to any game you’d like. 

For once she takes a day off because she wants to dedicate the day to you and her. 

She might have a lot planned as there’s many different games she wants to show you but she’ll make sure you aren’t overwhelmed. 

She’s aware of how easily flustered you get but she actually doesn’t fluster you on purpose. It just happens because she’s a very direct person in both her actions and her words.

Gets you a small but very colorful bouquet of flowers. If she could she would grow her own garden.

31: Most prized possession?

For Carolina, it would definitely be something of her father's, perhaps a watch or a ring that he always wore. And a card he gave her on her birthday. He wasn't big on cards, but he gave her a very sweet one and wrote a heartfelt inscription on the last birthday they shared together. I really want to come up with an HC for her mother - because she may be in here as well - but I'm so scared Book 3 will cover it and muck things all up. lol

For Trystan, I'm going to say some old drawings he has from childhood. They were pictures he drew with some of his siblings, during a simpler time, when the animosity between them hadn't developed yet. When he looks at them, he imagines a world where things could have gone differently, and in some weird way, it brings him peace.

I am sure he treasures a few letters he received from Julianna. He would keep them in a very special place and would take them out to read each year on her birthday.

Lastly, a photo of Carolina - I'm not going to say much more about it because I want to write a fic about it - but it signified a very big moment in their relationship, and he prints it out, frames it, it will remain one of his favorite things forever.

But Carolina is more, well, Carolina. She doesn't mind a good social media scroll or maybe going on YouTube after a long day. But she can fall down that rabbit hole, and before she knows it, she looks up, and 2 hours have passed. She will literally curse at herself because she thinks it is a total waste of time.

44: Superstitions or views on the occult?

Oh, this is a tough one! After dealing with The Hand of Mahra, these two will want to stay as far away from anything cult related as possible.

But superstitions... I'm part Greek, and I know my family was insane with the evil eye. Some still are. I can see Drakovia having its own version, and though he's embarrassed to admit it, Trystan kind of always has one on him. Now, the evil eye is only supposed to protect you if it is a gift; it cannot be something you buy yourself. So if his goes missing, he has to get someone to buy him a new one. Mags was his go-to for this, but now Carolina is dragged in, too. Now, there is a little shop in the Bryant Park Holiday Market that only sells evil eye jewelry and such (I go there frequently lol). I can see Carolina going there at Christmastime and buying like 30 to keep stashed in her room. This way, when Trystan is freaking out because he lost one, she just goes to her closet and is like, "Here!" lol (Now I want to write that fic! lol)

Carolina really doesn't believe in superstitions, at least not anymore. She's seen so many bad things she doesn't think anything can ward them off. That said, she does have two things she does every New Year's Eve. One, at midnight, she eats 12 grapes the moment the clock strikes twelve. She makes everyone with her do the same, and Trystan will just have to wait for that kiss! After the grapes (and kiss), they run to the front door and throw a bucket of water outside. Both of these are commonly done in certain Latine cultures. I don't think she feels they usher in good or bad luck, but it's part of her culture, and she's very attached to the tradition, so she takes it very seriously.
