for WIP Wednesday: starting right now I'll be strong
Skating figures does calm him, of course. A Russian pairs skater in the stands recognizes Yūko as a friendly former competitor, which Yūri maybe should have expected, rushes over and demands to hear how Yūko's husband and children are doing, which isn't surprising, and makes incredulous noises about Yūri bothering with compulsory figures, which is entirely predictable. When Victor Nikiforov follows her and says "That certainly explains Yūri Katsuki's beautiful edge control, Darya Konstantinova, perhaps you and Sergey should follow his example," however, Yūri is startled enough he almost trips over his toe pick.

Daily Wrap Up November 14, 2022
Under the cut:
The UN’s general assembly has approved a resolution calling for Russia to be held accountable for its invasion of Ukraine, including by making reparations to Kyiv.
U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and its threats to use nuclear weapons before the G20 summit in Bali, the White House reported on Nov. 14. Both presidents agreed that “a nuclear war should never be fought and can never be won and underscored their opposition to the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine,” according to the readout of the meeting.
Ukraine's air force says it is seeing a lull in Russian missile attacks, which were heavy and persistent through October. Yurii Ihnat, a spokesperson for the Air Force Command, said at a briefing in Kyiv: "Now we see some kind of a lull, nothing much is happening." Ihnat said there were still "shelling and rocket attacks on the frontline cities with rocket artillery and S-300 anti-aircraft systems. The enemy launches this type of missiles on a ballistic trajectory."
Canada will provide Ukraine with a further $500m (£425m) in additional military assistance in addition to sanctions on nearly two dozen more Russians, prime minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement on Monday as the G20 summit began.
Russian troops shelled Mylove, Zolota Balka, Mykhailivka, and Shevchenkivka in Kherson Oblast with artillery, Ukraine's General Staff reported. The number of Russian forces in the occupied towns of Kakhovka, Tavriisk, and Nova Kakhovka has decreased, according to the Ukrainian military.
Ukraine's state railway service, Ukrzaliznytsia, has begun repairing damaged rail tracks & infrastructure on the Kherson line, according to the Infrastructure minister, Oleksandr Kubrakov. It expects to restore rail services to Kherson within 10 days.
“The UN’s general assembly has approved a resolution calling for Russia to be held accountable for its invasion of Ukraine, including by making reparations to Kyiv.
The resolution, supported by 94 of the assembly’s 193 members, recognises that Russia must be held accountable for violations of international law in or against Ukraine.
Russia “must bear the legal consequences of all of its internationally wrongful acts, including making reparation for the injury, including any damage, caused by such acts”, the resolution reads.”-via The Guardian

The G20 largest economies summit will take place on Nov. 15-16 in Indonesia. Both President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin were initially invited to participate.
Putin, however, will not attend the summit. The Kremlin sent Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov instead.
Zelensky plans to join the summit online, according to the president’s spokesman Serhiy Nikiforov.
Earlier on Nov. 3, Zelensky said he wouldn’t participate in the event if Putin attends.”-via Kyiv Independent

Yurii Ihnat, a spokesperson for the Air Force Command, said at a briefing in Kyiv: "Now we see some kind of a lull, nothing much is happening."
Ihnat said there were still "shelling and rocket attacks on the frontline cities with rocket artillery and S-300 anti-aircraft systems. The enemy launches this type of missiles on a ballistic trajectory."
And he said that on Saturday there had been one attack on a central region by "TU-22M3 bombers; several X-22 missiles were launched."
But Ilhat said that "over the past week we haven’t seen the use of cruise missiles or Shahed drones. The enemy is unable to constantly launch massive missile strikes due to the shortage of weapons."
He said the Russians were running short of ballistic missiles and air-launched cruise missiles.
"The shortage of enemy weapons concerns both "Iskanders" and X-555 and X-101 missiles, and especially Kalibr-type missiles.
"In October, up to 15 Kalibr-type missiles were used. This weapon cannot be quickly manufactured and put into operation."
Ihnat said Ukrainian defense forces had destroyed over 330 self-detonating drones and that "in total, the enemy launched over 400 Iranian UAVs in Ukraine," from the south, east and north.
Ihnat said Ukrainian air defenses were being improved with the arrival of advanced western systems.
"The NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems are already protecting Ukrainian skies. This is a very good news for us. The NASAMS join the single one IRIS-T, which protects the south of the country."
"Ukrainian air defense will be strengthened by American Avenger systems," he said. "The Avengers supplied by our American partners have their own radar, can effectively operate eight Stinger missiles at once on their base; they are extremely mobile. "
He said the German-supplied IRIS-T system had destroyed 100 percent of targets.”-via CNN

Reuters reports the funding is additional to the $3.4bn Canada has given to Kyiv so far for its defence against Russia’s invasion and will help fund military, surveillance and communications equipment, fuel and medical supplies, the statement said.
Monday’s sanctions target 23 Russian individuals “involved in gross and systematic human rights violations against Russian opposition leaders”, including police officers, prosecutors, judges and prison officials, Trudeau’s office said.”-via The Guardian

#notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article

I do 2 fic rec lists on Reddit for Banana Fish and Yuri on Ice; on the alternating weeks, I do Attack on Titan (you don't have to have a Reddit account to view them).
Hoodie Boy: Ash is taking a nap, so Shorter takes Eiji on a date. Rating: Teen Audiences
i held your hand and i knew forever: Winter in Izumo. Rating: Teen Audiences
The Three of Them: Ash, Eiji, and Shorter engage in some adolescent antics while on their way to L.A. Rating: Teen Audiences
Ultramontaine: Ash goes to the Caribbean. I love this fic because it actually addresses the issues between Ash and Blanca (meaning, Ash holds him accountable), as opposed to acting as if everything is fine. Posted as incomplete, but can be enjoyed as is. Rating: Teen Audiences (no ships; Eiji is in Japan here)
Why do you love me?: Ash doesn't get what Eiji sees in him. Written by @chaos101lynx ! Rating: General Audiences
Bonus: I'm currently following Welter, a fic about Ash taking an under-the-table gig at a cafe in order to escape his abusive household. Featuring Dad!Max as his manager and Yut-Lung as his snarky coworker. It's really good and it's updated regularly. Rating: Teen Audiences (some references to abuse).
Going Down in History: 5 times Victor shamelessly flirted with Yuuri and embarrassed him, and 1 time that Yuuri got his revenge. Rating: Mature
Gold and Lace: 3 skaters, 1 car. Russian road trip AU. Rating: General Audiences

Daily Wrap Up November 8-9, 2022
Under the cut:
Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu has ordered the country’s troops to leave Ukraine’s city of Kherson, the only regional capital Moscow captured since the invasion began in February.
Russian forces have destroyed bridges on the west bank of the Dnipro River in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region to slow a continuing Ukrainian advance, as it was reported that one of the most prominent Russian-installed officials had been killed in a car crash.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will not attend the next Group of 20 summit in Indonesia as the Kremlin aims to protect him from possible high-level tensions over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bloomberg reported, citing its sources.
Russian forces hit the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro with self-detonating drone attacks early Wednesday, seriously wounding four and causing a large fire to break out, according to a spokesman for the Odesa regional administration.
“Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu has ordered the country’s troops to leave Ukraine’s city of Kherson, the only regional capital Moscow captured since the invasion began in February.
Ukrainian victory in Kherson, one of the main objectives of Kyiv’s southern offensive, will be widely seen as a significant blow to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, only weeks after a high-profile ceremony in Moscow in which he announced the “forever” annexation of Kherson region along with three other regions.”-via The Guardian

“Russian forces have destroyed bridges on the west bank of the Dnipro River in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region to slow a continuing Ukrainian advance, as it was reported that one of the most prominent Russian-installed officials had been killed in a car crash.
As the Ukrainian president, Volodomyr Zelenskiy, described “intense fighting” on the southern frontline, Ukrainian troops were reported to have retaken a number of settlements.
A few hours after Kirill Stremousov, the Russian-appointed deputy head of the Kherson region, announced that Ukrainian forces had gained a foothold on the northern edge of Snihurivka amid heavy fighting, a town that lies on a highway 31km north of Kherson city, Stremousov himself was reported by Russian media to have died in unclear circumstances.
Stremousov – a former anti-vaccination blogger – had become the hated face of Russia’s occupation of Kherson, posting videos online, including a bizarre poetry rendition and hosting press conferences for pro-Russian media.
According to local media reports, the crash happened near Henichesk, on the Sea of Azov, the seaside town used as the headquarters of the Russian occupation administration since it fled Kherson.
The Tass news agency said the press service for the head of the region had confirmed Stremousov’s death.
Alexander Dugin, a far-right nationalist figure in Russia whose daughter was killed earlier this year in a car bomb, said: “Kirill Stremousov, deputy head of the administration of the Kherson region, has died. A true hero. Kherson must be defended at all costs. Kherson is what keeps Russia in power today.””-via The Guardian
~
“Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will not attend the next Group of 20 summit in Indonesia as the Kremlin aims to protect him from possible high-level tensions over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bloomberg reported, citing its sources.
This decision will allow Putin to avoid potential conflicts with U.S. President Joe Biden, who previously called him “a war criminal,” and some European leaders.
Russia plans to send Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the summit instead, according to one of Bloomberg’s sources.
President Volodymyr Zelensky was also invited to the G20 largest economies summit, which will take place in Bali on Nov. 15-16.
On Nov. 3, he said he wouldn’t participate in the event if Putin attended, but in five days, president’s spokesman Serhiy Nikiforov told the Suspilne media outlet that Zelensky might join the summit in the online format.”-via Kyiv Independent
~
“Russian forces hit the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro with self-detonating drone attacks early Wednesday, seriously wounding four and causing a large fire to break out, according to a spokesman for the Odesa regional administration.
“Our defense forces took out five of them [drones], but the rest got through, hitting a logistics company. The enemy strike resulted in a fire breaking out over 3,000 square meters,” spokesman Serhiy Bratchuk wrote on Telegram. CNN cannot independently confirm Bratchuk’s claim.
Some context: Self-detonating drones have played a significant role in the conflict since Russia launched its invasion in late February. They are capable of circling for some time in an area identified as a potential target and striking only once an enemy asset is identified.
Russia has launched a series of drone attacks across Ukraine in recent weeks, striking vital civilian infrastructure and sowing terror in Ukrainian cities far from the front lines of the war.”-via CNN
