not quite halfway into Painted In Blood and it’s like. one third just Barnaby being a little jealous that his sergeant is making friends with Other Cops

Also bc he's a freak, I headcannon Gavin as being SO messy but also obsessively organized. So like, fridge filled to the brim with takeout containers (I doubt he can cook or has the time for it) but each one is neatly labeled with contents and dated. His countertops and sink are cluttered with dishes but they're all grouped and stacked into piles. His bedroom is covered in dirty clothes but when he throws them on the floor, he keeps each type of item in its own spot (ie t-shirts in one spot, jeans another, work shirts another, etc...) and he's so upright about his laundry when he can be bothered to do it.

Maybe Troy put his suit back on in the middle of the night?? He is a hard worker but doesn't seem to be into overtime (Strangler's Wood). On the other hand when Tom rings him out of bed in Blood Will Out and Faithful unto Death Troy just shows up in regular clothes. so uhhh?? a secret third thing??

//Rewatching “Badgers Drift” and… just… when they have to deal with the custody death, Barnaby obviously had to roll out of bed and throw his suit on. Troy though, he’s still in the same suit from earlier, and his tie and everything are done properly so that begs the question. Has Troy GONE home yet? Or is it like… two in the morning and he’s STILL at work?

Troy had told you a few stories about the days when he used to be Tom's sergeant in Causton, and when he received an invitation to attend Tom's daughter's, Cully's, wedding it was clear that he was excited to reconnect with his former colleague and friend. When you told him you would take time off work to attend, Gavin smiled at you and you knew what that smile meant. He wasn't the best with words at times so you wrote back, confirming his attendance with a plus one. 

Gavin wasn't the most organized unless it came to his work. Every morning he was always rushing out the door even when you always prepacked his lunch and made sure his suits were dry cleaned. The cause of this? His reluctance to part with you every morning when you were only wearing one of his shirts. Your hours were more socially friendly than his so your mornings were more relaxed not that he was complaining as every morning he got to see you in one of his old shirts that you slept in. When it came to you he found early on in your relationship that his resolve was weak and if you so much as winked at him he would carry you back to bed - something you had used to your advantage more than once.

Troy took the night off and came home early, loading the car for your trip tomorrow. Due to the distance, you would take turns driving to arrive in time for the wedding and you knew most of the miles would be covered with his wild driving, but you wanted to give him a break now and then as his job had him driving a lot and wanted him to take the break to relax.

You were putting on your bracelet, glancing at the clock on the dash as you had spent more time getting dressed than planned, concerned that you were going to be late to the wedding when it happened. You heard the squeal of tires and Gavin cursing as he braked harshly. You hit the seat harshly as the car came to a halt and looked at your fiancée who looked at the police cruiser he almost crashed into.

"Are you alright?" He asked, turning to you with a concerned frown.

You nodded, "I think so."

Troy got out of the car and you took off your seatbelt, quickly following after him. Troy immediately recognized his old DCI as he approached the car, pausing when he saw Troy.

"Hello, sir!"

Barnaby spread his arms, a delighted smile forming on his lips, "Troy!" He looked at the bend in the road Troy had been speeding around before looking at your fiancée who was grinning, "You were on the wrong side of the road."

You looked at Gavin who looked at the bend in the road, "Well, for a moment or two." He replied with a toothy grin, and you swatted his arm gently, shaking your head.

"Nothing changes, does it, Troy?"

"Sorry, sir. Bit of luck running into you though." Troy placed his hand on your back, "We thought we were late for the wedding."

Barnaby sent you both a smile, "Come on, you can drive with us."

You got into the front seat next to the constable, greeting him with a smile. Troy closed the door for you before joining Barnaby in the backseat.

The constable drove off, blaring the sirens, and you took the ten-minute drive to exchange introductions, Barnaby congratulating you both on your engagement. The police cruiser parked outside the DCI's house and he told you both he would meet you at the church before heading inside to get dressed for the wedding.

You looked at your fiancée over your shoulder, "I've learned a lot about you already."

"Oh, how so?" He asked with a toothy grin.

"You've always been a terrible driver."

"Sorry, love." His smile grew, "But in my defense, you made us late."

You sent your fiancée a glare over your shoulder, cheeks burning, hoping the constable didn't catch his meaning. Troy merely wiggled his eyebrows and you shook your head, turning around to hide the smile on your lips.

The constable turned off the siren as he approached the wedding venue. You thanked him as you got out of the car and smiled at Gavin as he took your hand, leading the way into the church. He was greeted by George Bullard as you took your seats and you smiled at the pathologist when he congratulated you on your engagement.

When Tom arrived with his wife Joyce, she greeted Gavin and thanked you both for attending before taking their seats. You looked at your fiancée, squeezing his hand gently, leaning in to speak in hushed whispers.

"You miss it here." You observed.

Gavin smiled softly, "Sometimes. But if I never left, I would never have met you, and if I hadn't met you, well, life would be pretty empty."

"You're such a professional." You playfully rolled your eyes, making his smile grow as he kissed your cheek.

Silence fell as Cully walked down to the alter to meet Simon who was transfixed by her. When the pair exchanged vows you rested your hand on Gavin's chest, a smile on your lips and tears in your eyes.

Afterward, you left the church and were introduced to Cully and her husband Simon, immediately hitting it off with the blonde who was thrilled to meet the woman who had captured Gavin's heart. A few feet away Gavin was standing with Barnaby, Bullard, and his new Sargent Jones and Cully caught the way his eyes flickered to you now and then, making sure you were alright in the sea of people you didn't know.

"You make him happy."

You smiled at the blonde, "Are you a Detective too?"

"No, but even so, I can see how much he loves you just by the way he looks at you." She mirrored your smile as you blushed at her words.

Meanwhile, Troy and Jones exchange stories about Barnaby while the DCI is engaged in conversation with Bullard and his wife. You joined the pair with a glass in your hand, smiling as Troy's hand immediately rested on your lower back as the two reminisced about old times and caught up on each other's lives.

Throughout the wedding festivities, you and Gavin circled the room glued to each other's sides, and you listened intently to every story about Gavin Troy, laughing at most of them. Everyone was eager to share stories of the former sergeant and you enjoyed his embarrassment while he smiled at how well you got along with everyone - although he never doubted you would.

Troy left your side briefly to top up your glass and Cully smiled at him as she commented on what a wonderful match you were for Gavin, and how well you complimented his personality.

"She brings out the best in me." Gavin agreed, sending the blonde a smile. 

Their romance had been brief and when it was over there were no hard feelings. Troy didn't know it then but all those romances were leading him to you all along and as he looked at you as you danced with Jones, he knew it was all worth it. Meeting you and falling in love with you happened in an instant. Your bright smile, your laughter, and the twinkle in your eyes drew him in. And he had been hooked ever since.

As he inquired about how she met Simon, nodding as he listened, his eyes darted to you when you laughed, Jones grinning as he excitedly told you the story Barnaby had told him about Troy's first days at Causton CID.

From the moment she saw you together, Cully could see the genuine happiness you bring to each other's lives and realized that her friend had found someone special. 

The wedding celebration becomes a memorable occasion for all involved. You danced, laughed, and celebrated the love and joy surrounding Tom's daughter's special day. As Gavin held you in his arms as you danced amongst the other guests, he whispered in your ear, telling you how excited he was to marry you and how much he loved you.

You were glad you attended the wedding, seeing the enduring friendships formed during Troy's time in Causton and the importance of celebrating love and connection in all its forms. You enjoyed seeing him reconnect with old friends and hearing stories about your husband-to-be and planned on returning one day to explore the village he had called home before making one with you.

well, i’m trying to learn german, and i’m not going very fast, but i’m trying! and on a bigger life scale i’m learning about taking care of myself, listening to my instincts, expecting to be treated right, and going with the flow of life.

omg well. really i’ll go a little crazy over any gift!!! but i love things that will make me laugh, and also really heartfelt things. anything handmade is great too. i’m never opposed to candy cause i’ve got a big sweet tooth, and i’m never opposed to stuffed animals, even though i’m fully aware i have too many already 😅😅

palm tree ⇢ do you have a fictional villain you shouldn’t like but love regardless?

well he’s not a villain he’s just mysterious and very morally ambiguous but detective patrick nash from miss scarlet and the duke. i’m not sure why i’m just obsessed with him and he’s become one of my favorite characters in the entire show. i feel like underneath the moral ambiguity he’s probably a much more emotional guy than he lets on and that’s probably why i’m mildly obsessed with him. also he’s funny and he seems to respect women in a time period where literally fucking nobody respects women, so i love him 👍

and also my other guy who’s also not a villain he’s just kind of a loser. sergeant gavin troy from midsomer murders. sometimes he does say really fucked up things and then other times he’s so respectful and gentle i probably shouldn’t like him but i’m obsessed with him. he’s so fucking funny. his favorite people are gossipy old women and if he doesn’t like you there’s a good chance you’ll know immediately based on his hilariously visceral facial expressions. i maybe should not like him bc of some of the things he’s said in the show but i love him whether i want to or not because he is just so funny to me and also i think he’s pretty for some reason. i feel like i’ll end up defending him even when i know i shouldnt because he’s just my guy who i rotate in my brain way too much. in my mind he can’t do anything wrong

hiiii :) any hcs for the midsomer sergeants doing karaoke bc i had this really chaotic idea of them singing a 1d song bc each of them could get a part lol

omg sergeant karaoke now that is a thought 👀

I imagine they can all sing - Ben and Jamie being the best of the two I imagine also - and ultimately it's all about just having fun

Of course though, Ben being the extra, loud, wonderful singer amps it up. And Charlie we know is quite competitive so he'd probably amp it up too. Things just slowly getting more and more out of hand - as the night went on, so did the continued drinking. Just imagining everyone getting sloshed and belting out some bangers

Unfortunately, my knowledge of 1D is limited, but them all singing 'what makes you beautiful' together, drunk, in one of those small karaoke booths is hilarious

//Iconing “Ring Out Your Dead” and I’m at the part where the grouchy WWII pilot is yelling at Troy when Troy asks him if the murder weapon (A WWII-Era Enfield Revolver) was his. 

Despite him scolding Troy and basically telling him he’s stupid, Troy’s question is a legitimate inquiry. In America and Britain during WWII most pilots were issued sidearms (Colt .45s were common for Americans and Enfields were normal for British) in case they survived a plane crash and had to make it back to friendly lines on foot. While it was NOT his weapon as the plot later proves, trying to make a comedy moment out of Troy being silly doesn’t work either because history backs the Sargent up.
