Starry Starry Night - Akiko Valentina constantly wished that she’d take that advice to heart for once in her life. Growing up, it seemed like every wish she’d make would come true. Life should’ve been a breeze… and it was for a while. Her family had won the lottery a few years ago, along with her mother’s seaweed gin distillery taking off which brought the Valentina Family even more fortune. Classes would be cancelled, boys asked her to the dance, her favourite TV shows would suddenly be back even when they were cancelled whenever she seemed to will it. Though, like a bad 90s kids horror series, there was always a cruel twist at the end.
Now living alone in the penthouse apartment her now dead family’s fortune got her, Akiko spends her free time overindulging herself in luxury, to distract herself from the dark. Things had gotten stale after two years of spoiling herself rotten.
“I wish something would happen in my boring life.”

Eidolons and Eudaemonia -Eudaimonia is a world where each country worships a particular element. Each country has a temple and a candle that must be lit at all times to prevent a calamity. Its said that the candles represent hope, the one thing that kept ‘humanity’ going after the first calamity. Every few centuries, new candles must be created and infused with magic and blessings from each country before being placed in the temples and lit. It’s a ritual that has been carried on long before the formation of the Church of the Star Bringer, which eventually took control of candle duties.

Just a quick fill for this prompt for some post-Blight Zevwarden fluff
AO3 | Pillowfort
______________________________________________________
Letting them stay in the castle was the least Anora could do, given that it was Warden Aeducan’s hand that had put her on the throne, and done away with her potential competition, and with that in mind, the invitation was extended as long as Warden Aeducan and her guests wished to make use of it. Sereda had appeared eager to depart at her crowning as the Hero of Ferelden, but it seemed the long pursuit of the archdemon had caught up with all of them—for two days straight, they did little else but sleep.
That morning, Zevran had finally woken feeling rested, but Sereda was still out cold, her sleeping bonnet sliding off, Queen Anora’s white sheets stark against the blue-black of her skin. Smiling at the way she sprawled over the bed, Zevran brushed a hand over her hair and rolled off the other side of the bed to find some quiet way to entertain himself.
Sereda felt like she had been sleeping for more than 48 hours, and she could very well keep going. Every time she started to shift back to consciousness, she remembered some other thing from the last year that had exhausted her, and collapsed back into unconsciousness. The thing that finally galled her to open her eyes was realizing Zevran’s side of the bed was empty.
Stone…what hour is it? she wondered as she lifted her head from the pillows. “Groggy” was not nearly strong enough to encapsulate how disoriented she felt, so that when she saw Zevran busying his hands over a tiny, foldable table it took her a moment to register the scene.
“Good morning, my demon-slaying, kingdom-saving, queen-crowning ex-princess,” he said, with a voice far to chipper to have woken recently. Sereda dropped her face back down into a pillow with a groan.
“What time is it?” she finally got out intelligibly.
“Oh, sometime after noon, I think,” Zevran replied. “Does it really matter?”
Through the cobwebs of Sereda’s mind, she decided that no, it didn’t, really. She drew in a long, deep breath and rolled onto her back, a sliver of her mind marveling over the fact that she was still taking in air, and not bumping pints with the ancestors.
“Coffee?” Zevran’s query made her push herself up enough to see him, and realize what he had been doing on the tiny table. He held up a mug and she nodded, then squinted her eyes at him. He was nearly naked, except for—
“Are those my smalls?”
Zevran flashed a cheeky grin, and poured another coffee, adding sugar and cream to whatever specifications existed in his mind.
“I was going to take your shirt, but the sleeves are too short.” The smalls, by contrast, were wide enough in the hip and thigh to hang loosely off Zevran’s narrow frame, drawstring drawn tightly to keep them in place. He sashayed over to the bed, and handed her the mug he had not doctored—to her pleasure, the coffee was straight black, just the way she liked it (it made Zevran gag, in a way she thought was terribly exaggerated, and he even wrinkled his nose handing it over, as if the mere scent of it was offensive).
“And?” She held out her free hand, making a grasping motion with her fingers. Zevran heaved a long-suffering sigh, and jerked loose the drawstring on the shorts, stepping out of them and flicking them over to her, all without setting down his coffee. “Thank you.” She put her own mug down to wriggle back into the smalls, then settled cross-legged on the bed, hands wrapped around the steaming mug. “I shall endeavor to find you something else to wear,” she said, as Zevran joined her on the bed, not troubling himself to solve that particular problem himself.
Sereda’s eyes raked over him, noting the barely-scabbed wounds on his chest and arms, and the long slice on his left leg, still bandaged and troubling him more than he would admit. Throwing soldiers to the darkspawn was not something she was unaccustomed to, and her willingness to sacrifice had once made her one of King Endrin’s favorite military strategists, with a command of her own, so it surprised her how protective she had grown of her little band. Well—perhaps it was not so strange in regards to Zevran.
“Please, take in the view as long as you like,” Zevran said, leaning back on one hand to give her a better eyeful. Sereda snorted, and was only stopped from giving him a smack by the fact that they were both holding hot coffee.
“I was just thinking how handsome you’d be with a beard.”
“Tsk! How you wound!” he cried, rubbing his bare chin. “I cannot help my shortcomings.” Sereda snorted and took a big mouthful of coffee. She still felt like she was rinsing the ashes of Denerim off her tongue. “I’m sure I can find a way to make up for them,” he said, putting his mug down on the floor to throw himself over the bed, head in Sereda’s lap.
“Hmm, I don’t know,” she said, reaching down to trace her fingers along his smooth jawline. “There would be a great deal of talk among the nobility. Ah, but I’ve just remembered something!”
“What is it, dearest? Oh, have you found a solution?”
“I’ve just remembered I owe them nothing and I can do whatever I want.” She leaned over to press a clumsy kiss against Zevran’s lips, and felt him grin into the kiss.
“Isn’t that a nice feeling?” She raked a hand back through his silky blond hair and took another sip of coffee.
“Remarkable.” She sighed and glanced at the high windows of the bedroom, through which a sun of undetermined hour beamed through. Zevran’s eyes were on her, and she thought maybe she should say something else, but it felt like too much effort. Trying to broach what had happened the last week…no, it was too much, just now. She’d rather speak of empty, meaningless things, and come around to the rest in due time. Not avoiding, she told herself, just waiting for the right moment.
“Your hair is long enough to braid, though,” she said at last, lifting her mug.
“Oh?”
“Mm.” Gently, she ran her nails over his scalp, in the way that made his eyes slide shut in bliss, and he tilted his head back into her hand. “If you had a lieutenant, or a second, you might braid each other’s hair before battle,” she said, speaking of dwarven tradition and hinting at her past in a way she rarely did. “It is…a kind of intimacy. Trust.” Zevran’s eyes peeked open.
“Is this something you did in Orzammar?”
“I let my second, Gorim, do it for me on a few occasions when we ventured into the Deep Roads,” she said.
“And you were…close?”
“Not like that. But yes.” There was still a twinge of guilt in her breast for Gorim’s twin exile. He had served her well—he did not deserve to suffer with her. It had been surpassed by pride for the life he had made for himself there in Denerim, and now relief that he had survived the archdemon’s assault.
“But you did not return the favor?”
“I was his princess,” Sereda said. “The only hair I would have braided were my brothers’, and my father’s, and they never asked.” As always when speaking of her past and her family, Sereda spoke bluntly and factually, as if reciting a fable rather than speaking of her own life. “Sit up,” she said abruptly after a thoughtful pause, nudging Zevran’s shoulder with her knee. He complied, and she pressed her mug into his hands. “And hold still.”
She had to raise herself up on her knees to be able to reach his head properly, and his back was warm against her bare torso. Without preamble, she combed through his hair with her fingers, and began to part it. With a comb and a bit of grease she could have made something far neater, but she did not wish to trouble herself with delays, or searching out the items, so she tackled Zevran’s fine elven hair with just her hands.
He was unusually quiet, sitting neat and still for her as she began to weave his hair in the style he might have worn about the Diamond Quarter if he lived with her in Orzammar. Not for a day at the Proving arena, but for social calls, it would be quite appropriate.
“I am beginning to think you have an attraction to scandal,” he said after he had allowed her to work several minutes in silence.
“Perhaps I do. Perhaps I played the good daughter too long.” A soft sigh escaped Zevran’s lips, and she could see how relaxed his shoulders were as she gently tugged and scraped his hair into place. “Or perhaps it’s your influence.”
That made him laugh, and for a moment, Sereda closed her eyes and relished the sound. It had taken her time to see the grief under Zevran’s careless smiles, but now she took twice the pleasure in making those smiles genuine.
“I would like to think I could manage to topple a dwarven princess,” he said.
“Don’t get carried away,” she said. “I was fallen from grace before we met.”
“There is always further to go, my love.” Sereda snorted and gave a little jerk on his hair, just enough to make him give an indignant yelp, and then a much lower sound. “Oh, is it that time already?” he purred, and Sereda bumped her knee into his back, less effectively than she’d hoped.
“Not until I finish this,” she said, and he did not balk about that. When she had finished, she sat down and admired her work. “There. You’re all ready to go socialize with the Harrowmonts and the Daces.” She thought he would get up then, to search out a mirror to have a look, but instead he just turned and captured her lips in a kiss so deep he pushed her back down on the bed.
“It’s perfect,” he said.
“You haven’t set eyes on it,” Sereda objected.
“It’s perfect,” he insisted. Sereda parted her lips to tell him he couldn’t possibly know until he looked, but the open genuineness in his eyes silenced her, and she lifted a hand to his cheek.
“Of course it is,” she said. “I would give you nothing less.” The weight of the battle washed over them again, and they decided that the day was best spent in their room, and that the rest of the world could wait a while longer.

Hi! Um, odd question to spring on you out of the blue, but if all your Wardens got together in a pub somewhere, how would they all get on?
Griffon, Mahariel and Orlena are Too Autistic for this shit and find a quiet corner to escape to. They end up having a good conversation about the stress of the Blight and of other people’s expectations and Griffon ends up asking Mahariel and Orlena some stuff about Daish and Circle culture they want to know but have been awkward asking about. In return, Mahariel asks Griffon about some noble stuff he doesn’t get. Griffon doesn’t get it either. Neither does Orlena. They complain about nobles.
Meanwhile Lorrel is adopting Everyone, whether they like it or not. Vari likes it a lot because this is essentially her grandmother and she’s really cool, and Seren’s really excited about having a city elf declare that she’s family now. She wants to know Everything about life in an alienage, which Vari and Lorrel kind of agree is “it sucks but also we’re the Greatest, and will fight anyone else who says it sucks.”
Elora tells Lorrel she doesn’t need or want a grandmother, or any family. In between mocking her little brother Thosk for all his shitty life choices. Which Thosk takes, because okay fair he has made some really shitty life choices. But some of the rest of you must have made shitty choices too right??? Isaline agrees that yes, she did. She’s not going to go into it. Mags says she did everything wrong, which Isaline and Lorrel tell her they’re sure isn’t true. Mihren says humans deserve what they get. Lacha isn’t comparing her mistakes to some fucking dwarven noble’s, and would prefer not to speak to Elora or Thosk at all actually.
Annabeth is…… not going to be doing at all well considering she did a lot of Terrible Things in the pursuit of stopping the Blight Whatever The Cost, at the knowledge that 13 other people were able to stop the Blight without being fucking terrible about it. But if we’re being nice, we can have pre-dead family and Blight Annabeth, who is incredibly down to party and hang out with all this fun new people and hey do any of them want to make out maybe?? Therlia has no objections to that.
Mags is very shy and awkward, and Lacha, who doesn’t want to be here at all and sees no reason to hang out with these people, sighs and starts talking to her. She tells Mags a lot of stuff about her life and her own feelings on leadership and People, and ends up giving Mags some blunt but very helpful advice. Mags isn’t sure whether or not Lacha likes her at all (she does).
Therlia, Isaline and Mihren end up having a very deep discussion about how terrible Circles are and the stuff they suffered there. Seren tells them her girlfriend was made Tranquil but would prefer to go back to talking to her City Elf friends instead of saying more about it. After a while of just talking about her abusive templar ex, Isaline lets slip his name. Therlia and Mihren are very quick to agree that yeah, Cullen Rutherford is the fucking worst. Seren looks back over and vehemently agrees. Orlena approaches the main table for the first time that night to tell everyone that yeah that guy’s a massive creep. No one else likes him either.
So tl;dr there are some disagreements and then everyone bands together to talk about how much they hate cullen rutherford

Word count: 1117
“Call me ‘Lady Aeducan’ one more time, and you’ll wish it was the archdemon you had pissed off.” Ahead of him, Zevran could almost hear Alistair’s suppressed snickering. Somehow, the entire walk from Orzammar had not accustomed the party to the reality that Warden Aeducan was truly that Aeducan—former princess of the dwarven kingdom, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
Alistair’s long-term response to the tragic truth of her joining the Wardens seemed to be to find every way to refer to her as “princess” that he could think of, as if to take her mind off of it with minor annoyances. Zevran didn’t disapprove.
They passed through the market, although the sun shining over Denerim did little to alleviate the chill in the air. A tragedy, that Zevran’s career with the Crows should come to end in such a wretchedly wet, cold place. Couldn’t this have all gone down in Tevinter, where the food tasted less like boiled dog pelt?
Once, Sereda had asked why Zevran chose so often to walk at the back of the group—possibly, in a roundabout way, asking why he did not walk nearer to her—and he had joked that as the son of a whore, it was unseemly for him to walk beside an esteemed Grey Warden (and of course, he had doubled down on this since finding out she was royalty). The truth was far more practical: someone had to watch her back. He felt most comfortable with that person being him.
It was an instinct that proved necessary: they passed through the market, and into the winding alleyways of Denerim’s residential district, searching out the contact from Lake Calenhad, when Zevran became certain they were being watched. Silently, so as not to alert the others and cause mayhem where it might not be necessary, Zevran drew one of his knives, turning his eyes up to the rooftops, and into the dark spaces between buildings they walked by, scanning. Naturally, Wynne noticed.
“Did you see something?” the old mage asked quietly, slowing her step to match his.
“Not in so many words,” he replied, unable to iron out the tension in his back.
“Should I alert the wardens?” she asked.
“No…not yet,” he said. “Wouldn’t want to scare anyone off prematurely,” he added, flashing a toothy grin. “Better to deal with things here and now, yes? I hate waiting on unpleasant surprises.”
The alley they were on led them to a dead end, and while Leliana made a noble effort to pick the lock on the warehouse door that faced the end of the street, it remained steadfastly inaccessible.
“Well…shoot,” Alistair said. “We’d better double back; we must have missed one of the markers…” He took out the map of Denerim to have another look, while Sereda wandered back the way they had come, looking, perhaps, for a clue.
That was when they struck.
It took all of Zevran’s weight, plus a great deal of force from his running start, to push Alistair out of the way of the arrow that came flashing out of the dark corner between the warehouse and the building next to it. He had meant to knock the warrior to the ground, but with Alistair in full armor, he only managed to knock him back a few steps. Fortunately, that was enough: Zevran could feel the arrow zip past the back of his head, and he spun, hurling a knife, and heard a thud.
Wynne had her staff drawn at once, advancing on the source of the arrow, while Zevran turned to shout at Warden Aeducan.
“Sereda!”
“Assassins!” Leliana cried, grasping her bow. Sereda reached for her two-handed battle hammer, facing in the direction of the first shooter, but she equipped no shield, only her heavy armor. Zevran heard the skirmish behind him as Wynne, Alistair, and Leliana closed on the first assassin, but only distantly. Everything slowed when he saw the tip of an arrow emerge from the window of the curio shop behind Sereda: sound, the beat of his heart, time itself. He felt keenly aware of everything around him: the slight breeze blowing through the alley, the sound of his companions’ feet on the dirt behind him, the gleam of the sunlight off Sereda’s midnight-dark cheeks.
The knife he threw lodged in the frame of the window, and the thunk! of it lodging in the wood made Sereda turn. The assassin, startled, but seeing an opening, fired a shot that Sereda dodged as Zevran ran towards the curio shop. Grasping the wooden supports on the outside of the building and using his running momentum to propel himself, he hauled himself up and flung himself through the open window and straight into the would-be assassin.
“Very sloppy,” he announced, planting a knee on the human’s chest and his hand against her throat. “Very sloppy. Now—who sent you?”
The woman appeared to snarl at him, and through her parted lips he saw that someone had removed her tongue. The perfect assassin—one who couldn’t spill secrets.
“Pity. I love a good crime story.” With nothing to gain, Zevran slit her throat, and made his way downstairs into the shop. “You might want to keep your window more secure,” he advised the shopkeeper as he holstered his knife. “You’ve got an assassin up there.” The man looked bug-eyed at Zevran, who flashed a sweet smile. “Dead now, you’re welcome.”
The charging dwarf ran nearly headlong into him—which would surely have sent him flying into the counter—as Zevran made for the door.
“Where are they?” Sereda demanded.
“Taken care of,” Zevran said with no small note of pride. Working solo had never been his forte, so he was pleased with his performance.
“Dead?” Sereda asked, her hammer drooping.
“She couldn’t tell us anything,” Zevran assured her. “My lady is safe again,” he said gallantly, giving her an exaggerated bow. Sereda snorted and holstered the hammer.
“I suppose there are benefits to having an assassin among us,” she said. “You have the right eye for those things.” Glowing, Zevran beamed at her as the rest of the party hurried in.
“You know, I think someday we’ll have faced an assassination attempt in every major city in Ferelden,” Alistair said. “Someone should give us an award for that. Or at least compensation.”
“Write the arl about it,” Wynne said, shaking her head and turning to go. Assassins or not, they still had a contact to find. They shuffled back out of the curio shop, offering some feeble apologies to the shopkeeper, and as they emerged back onto the street, Zevran took up his customary position at the back. Better safe than sorry.
During Origins, while the Warden and their companions stay in Denerim, Zevran intercepts an assassination attempt on the Warden.

BTV Question: If you asked your characters love interest what your characters most defining quality was, what would be their answer? For whoever you want!
BTV OC Questions (August/September)
Since I answered this for my mains already here, I’ll give some answers for some of my less developed characters this time~
Cullen says: “Seren is willful, fierce... all smiles, sparks, and steel. I don’t know if there’s a single word that can contain all that --- Seren cannot be contained.”
Solas says: “He seems to have an endless reserve of wit, does he not? Such a talent requires bravery and brilliance... and no small amount of recklessness.”
Duran Aeducan says: “Her grit. Nadia always stands up and presses on, not even when there seems to be no hope of succeeding... and then somehow, she manages to pull through, even if only just. It’s incredible.”
Nadia Brosca says: “He is noble. And I don’t mean in the ‘oh, he’s Prince Aeducan’ kind of way. I mean he holds himself to higher standards. He has a code and doesn’t break it. He won’t stab someone in the back - even if they would do it to him. That sort of thing. He’s honest, and his heart is in the right place. That’s what I’m trying to say.”
Leliana says: “Somehow, Luna always manages to see the bright side to a situation, the silver lining that surrounds the storm clouds. Her optimism, it is most endearing. It gives hope to others.”

Blue Surana
(thank you again for these amazing screenshots of my girl)
Back in the Circle, Blue didn’t have any friends. She mostly spent time with the Tranquil, liking their quiet and their straight-forward way of speaking. She felt more at peace with them than with her classmates.
Some of the Tranquil even used to help her cut her hair, not always very well- and not at all stylishly- but usually at least very straight and neat which she appreciated. Sometimes they would accidentally cut it too short and she would be mistaken for a boy for a month or two. She never minded, and responded to he/him pronouns just the same. She never really understood the concept of ‘gender’ and it was never important to her. ——-
Nicole Shepard
Her face claim is Pilar Cruz. Nicole is Earthborn from Cagayan, Philippines and for her, the hardest part about adjusting to life in Alliance Navy was how damn cold space was. She always wore extra layers in Basic Training, causing her to almost overheat more than once. When they defeat the Reapers, she and hubby Garrus Vakarian - a Turian and thus fellow hater of cold weather- retire somewhere warm because it’s what they DESERVE.
——Ronan Aeducan
ft Face Claim: Dev Patel
Is a bit in denial for a few weeks after Trian was killed. He was never the biggest fan of his older brother but, Ancestors, that was his brother. There were days in the Deep Roads where he was sure he’d heard Trian’s voice or glimpsed his shadow, his serene countenance just a facade while internally he was sweating and ready to flee. Finally seeing Trian’s ghost in the First Trial of the Sacred Ashes mission was too much. Ronan had never shed a tear for his brother before, but he broke down to his knees in quiet sobs. He didn’t get to pass through to the next Trial with the other Wardens because he hadn’t come to terms yet with the guilt, that what had happened hadn’t been his fault.

I’m not going to do any Inktober for Writers prompts, I told myself. I’ve got to many other things to finish, and I’m certainly not going to see a prompt for “Ring” and write a 2500 word one shot that’s a continuation of a story I have yet to finish on AO3.
I am apparently a big fat liar.
So here it is, a one shot continuation of “In the Absence of Light” a modern au of a modern au about an evil Anabel Hawke, and an unreformed Sebastian Vael who’ve entered into a business like (with benefits) relationship in order to probably take over Thedas eventually. They are surprisingly fluffy in this one-shot however, titled, appropriately enough: Put a Ring on It She’d been nervous the whole evening, in spite of the fact that she knew how it would conclude; with the formal engagement of Lady Anabel Amell-Hawke, heir to the Viscount of Kirkwall, and Prince Sebastian Vael, ruler of Starkhaven.
It was an event six months in the making, every move, every action, carefully planned, practically choreographed. Where they went, what they did, what they wore. What she wore; as usual men had an easier time of it. The dress she wore now, for instance was a pale pink confection of lace and tulle, kept from being too demure by dark blue velvet ribbons that formed the straps and criss-crossed the bodice. The choice had taken hours. Sebastian was wearing a dark suit and tie. Definitely easier. He only had to look respectable. She had to look demure but not meek, young but not too young, innocent but desirable, desirable but not sexy. Nothing too low (necklines), or too high (hemlines). No black (too stark) no white (too bridal), no red (too sexy).
While by now they had been seen together in public on numerous occasions, other than some hand holding, one public hug and two public kisses (one on the cheek and one on the lips, all planned in advance with notice to favored reporters) there had been nothing further, though the papers and the internet were buzzing with excitement and breathless anticipation of their engagement.
Which was happening tonight. At some point during this dinner. Not that Sebastian had alluded to it in any way over the course of the evening.
They were in a private dining room in The Golden Stag, Kirkwall’s finest dining establishment. There was candlelight and flowers and a beautiful crystal chandelier illuminating the room with soft light. Their waiter had left them with coffee and dessert a quarter of an hour ago.
She’d finished her dessert a good five minutes ago, and had ignored the coffee: she was nervous enough without adding caffeine to the mix. Sebastian was still sipping his, as if he didn’t have a care in the world.
She tried not to fidget. Tried to wait patiently. Tried not to ask. She failed at all three.
“Aren’t you supposed to be proposing to me?”
His smile couldn’t quite be called a smirk, but it was awfully close. Instead of answering, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box.
She couldn’t help straightening in her chair and leaning forward, just a bit, to get a better look at it.
And then, to her surprise, he tossed it to her.
She caught it instinctively, and started laughing. “Oh that’s romantic. The proposal every girl dreams of.”
His blue eyes were twinkling. “I proposed to you six months ago in Val Royeaux. I’m just ‘putting a ring on it’, as they say.’”
She gave an exasperated huff. “Putting a ring on it? Who on Thedas says that?”
He gave her an unrepentant grin. “Isn’t that how they put it in Ferelden?”
She rolled her eyes at him. “Only in the back alleys of Denerim,” she informed him. “And since you’ve brought it up I don’t recall your original proposal dripping with hearts and flowers either.”
“It was memorable for other reasons, though.” There was heat in those blue eyes now.
Her heart raced just at the memory. “It was,” she admitted. Being together like that had been a rare occurrence since then. Rare, but just as memorable. Hopefully, the rare thing would change after tonight.
Sebastian stayed where he was, and didn’t say anything more.
She tried to ignore the vague disappointment she felt, telling herself not to be silly, theirs was a business arrangement. A business arrangement with mind-blowing sex and the eventual founding of a dynasty. Nothing more. But that was more than enough. And it came with what she was certain would be a fairly impressive piece of jewelry. She weighed the velvet box in the palm of her hand. Heavier than she thought. She’d been wondering for days now (months if she were honest) what sort of ring he’d pick out for her. Everyone knew his taste was exquisite, his knowledge of gems impressive, and of course the fact he was one of the wealthiest men in Thedas could only help with the choice.
But still, for him to just sit there like that.
She looked at him expectantly, but he simply smiled that deceptively serene smile that he’d mastered since his return to respectability.
Was he expecting her to ask if she could open the box?
Like hell she was going to ask.
She arched an eyebrow at him, giving him one last chance to say something.
Still smiling he took a sip of his coffee. And didn’t say a thing.
With a scowl that she didn’t try to hide, she opened the box.
And temporarily forgot how to breathe.
When she finally remembered how to, she spoke, surprised at how shaky her voice sounded. “That’s the Aeducan Pink.”
“I thought you might recognize it.” Sebastian sounded entirely unconcerned.
The Aeducan Pink. Fifty-six carats. Sold at auction three months ago, to an anonymous buyer for…
“Eighty-four million.” She said faintly.
It had set a record. A completely flawless vivid pink diamond. She’d read about it, seen pictures, but nothing had prepared her for the sight of it, the almost shocking pink color of it and the size. It looked unreal, like something you might find glued in a plastic tiara in a child’s princess dress-up chest. Or would have, if your grandfather had ever let you indulge in anything as mundane as dress-up. But that gem would never have sparkled the way this one did, the lights from the crystal chandelier above bouncing of the facets so brightly that she actually had to blink.
Wow. She bit her lower lip to keep from saying it out loud. Wow.
Sebastian rose from the table, laying his napkin beside his plate, and walked to her side. He took the box from her hand, removed the ring and slipped it onto her finger. The stone reached past her knuckle. The fit was a bit loose, and the weight of the rock made it slip to one side.
Anabel stared at it without speaking.
“Anabel?” Sebastian prompted.
She didn’t raise her eyes. “Mmm?” She murmured. She seemed mesmerized.
The corner of Sebastian’s mouth twitched. “Do you like it?”
“I...I…” She stopped, but finally raised her eyes to his, giving him a sweet smile. “I think it’s possibly the most vulgar piece of jewelry I’ve ever seen.”
Sebastian burst out laughing. He’d thought she’d see through his joke, but had also thought she’d be a bit more...gentle in her opinion. He should have known better.
She was looking at him expectantly. “Where’s the real ring?” she demanded but her eyes were dancing merrily now.
Still laughing, he pulled the ‘most vulgar piece of jewelry she’d ever seen’ off her finger, and placed it back in the box, before reaching into his other pocket, and pulling out a slightly smaller box. He opened it, holding it for her to see.
Her breath caught again, in a slightly different way than before.
It was beautiful. Delicate somehow: not that the stone itself was small (though any stone would look small after the Aeducan Pink). Like other ring, the diamond was pink, though a less vivid pink, and it flanked by two much smaller white diamonds.
It was pretty. That seemed a strange word to use for such a gem, but that was what kept repeating in her mind. It was just the sort of ring that she would have picked out for herself, and she wondered that Sebastian had known that.
To her alarm she found herself blinking back tears. “Much better.” She said, hoping he hadn’t noticed the tears.
If he had he didn’t comment on them. “I’m glad you like it.”
“8 carats?” she guessed.
“Almost.” She frowned and for just a moment he thought it was displeasure at the size, but then realized she was displeased that she’d guessed incorrectly. 7.97 carats.” He told her and the smile was back.
“It’s beautiful. Tell me about it.”
“7.97 carats, cushion cut, pure vivid pink but rare in that the skillfulness of the cut causes it to reflect an almost orange light. I was told that there was some debate about whether to classify it as a red diamond rather than pink because of that, but the pink classification prevailed. I thought the peachy tone would compliment your coloring.”
She’d expected him to choose carefully, but she’d thought he’d be picking for the impression it would make on Thedas, not on her. When she looked at him he was watching her carefully. “What’s its history? Who owned it before? Does it have a name?” The questions came out too quickly as she tried to ignore the emotions that realization had caused.
“It’s from Orzammar, from a recently discovered or rather rediscovered mine, a week below the surface.”
“From an Aeducan mine?” She asked. The best diamonds usually were.
“Yes,” He confirmed. “I’ve had some dealings with Bhelen Aeducan in the past. I phoned and he invited me to come and see his personal collection and was kind enough to let me have my choice.”
She gave a small snort. “For a hefty price, I’m sure. How much did…”
He cut her off. “I am not telling you how much your engagement ring cost me.”
“When did you go to Orzammar?” He hadn’t said anything about it.
“I made a slight detour during my trip to Jader last month.”
Had he wanted to surprise her? And what did that mean? “Does it have a name? I’ve always liked the idea of naming stones. It makes them more unique.” She was starting to babble, never a good sign.
“It does.”
She looked at him expectantly.
“Anabel’s Blush.” He told her and smiled as her cheeks turned a pink almost identical to the rich pink of the diamond.
She put her hands to her cheeks to cool them, silently cursing her fair skin that showed every blush so readily. He’d gone all the way to Orzammar to find stone for her ring and named it after her. Anabel’s Blush. It pleased her more than it should. Stop it, she told herself, it probably has little to do with you. There was a reason to everything Sebastian did, it was one of the things she liked about him, and she suspected she knew the real reason for this. “The press will love that.” She said looking up at him with a smile that felt a bit forced.
Something flickered in those blue eyes, and was gone before she could identify it. “Yes. It should prove quite the morsel during tomorrow’s press conference.”
“Yes.” She agreed. It would. The press and the royal watchers would eat it up, because Maker (and Sebastian apparently) knew she would blush all over again when he told the press the name of the stone.
Anabel’s Blush. He’d chosen it and named it for her.
“Sebastian?” Her voice sounded small, uncertain somehow. She looked up at him, and from the puzzled look on his face she knew he had heard it too. The words came tumbling out before she could stop them. “I love it. Truly. It’s the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen. Thank you.” Shit. She shouldn’t have gushed like that.
But when she looked at him he was giving her a smile that was different from any she’d received from him before, and she found her self returning it.
For a moment they just smiled at each other. Sebastian came to his senses before she did.
“Well, then we’d best settle this matter.” He turned her chair slightly, so that it faced away from the table, and went down on one knee in front of her.
Or maybe he hadn’t.
Her eyes widened in surprise. There was no one else here. No one to see it. No one to impress.
He’d gone down on one knee.
He took her hand in his. “Anabel Esme Amell-Hawke, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
Her heart was pounding so hard in her chest that for a moment she was worried he would hear it.
“Yes.” She told him. Maker help her.
She watched as he took the ring from the box and slid it on her finger.
It fit perfectly. And he was right: it did compliment her coloring.
She slid forward so she was actually sitting on his knee, and kissed him. Softly, almost chastely at first, and then as he slid his arms around her she ran her tongue over his lips and the kiss became something else. When it ended they were both breathing heavily.
She rested her forehead against his.“The reporters are waiting outside the restaurant?” she asked.
“Yes,” he confirmed.
“Once they get a picture of the ring, how soon until they descend on the Amell manse?”
“Twenty minutes?” He suggested. He turned his head pressing his lips to the side of her neck.
She bent her head to the side so he had easier access. “And perhaps another twenty after that before they start looking for you to leave? I’d be a poor hostess if I didn’t offer my escort coffee, or brandy. Or something else?”
He pulled his head back to find her giving him a look so hopeful that he couldn’t help laughing. “After accounting for travel that doesn’t give us much time,” he pointed out.
“Plenty of time if you don’t insist on a bed. Up against a wall or bent over a sofa would hardly take any time at all.”
He didn’t answer, but after a brief pause set her on her feet and stood himself.
She was already reapplying her lipstick.
She handed him a tissue, and he wiped his mouth clean of the traces of pink, and then reached over and scooped up both jewelry boxes.
She smiled as he slipped them back into the pocket of his jacket. “I imagine the owner of that rock will be relieved to get it back.”
He raised an eyebrow. “What makes you think it belongs to someone else.?
Eighty-four million. “What are you going to do with it?” She couldn’t help asking the question.
“Oh, I’ve a few thoughts. It would make a spectacular pendant.”
She pictured it in her mind. “Yes. Yes it would.” And one could hardly blame her if she sounded a bit breathless. “Any thoughts as to who the recipient of this necklace might be?”
He leaned down and kissed her again. “I thought I might give it to my wife on the occasion of the birth of our first child.”
Wow. “I’m certain she would appreciate such a gift.” She said closing her clutch. She transferred it to her left hand, holding it so that the ring would be impossible to miss.
He took her other hand, tucking it into the crook of his arm. “I don’t know. I hear she considers large stones vulgar.”
She pretended to consider the matter. “Perhaps you’ll be able to persuade her otherwise by the time this child makes an appearance.”
“I’ll certainly make every effort to do so.” He paused with his hand on the doorknob, and smiled down at her. His eyes went briefly to the ring on her finger. “Are you ready?”
I’m going to marry a prince. She took a deep breath and gave him a brilliant smile.“Yes,” she told him. “Yes, I am.”

@red-wardens Just two very brief snippets. But I’ve been thinking of Lenn & your squad.
Isseya finds him in the chantry, standing in front of the Prophetess' statue in quiet contemplation. "We are about to set out," she announces. "But we can afford to wait if you need more time." His eyes turn to her, eerily dark in the dim candlelight. "No. I'm good to go," he says, voice soft and gentle, corners of his mouth briefly pulled in an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry to have kept you waiting." "Found any comfort here? Or answers?" she looks up at the statue, studying Andraste's serene face with more than a subtle hint of scepticism in her eyes. Lenn chuckles, but there's so little mirth in it, Isseya's mind conjures up an image of dark water closing over what was to be a gasp for air. "I found some quiet," he replies.
"The alienage is off limits. Nobody can leave – or enter," Zevran announces when he returns from the gate and rejoins them in the inn. "There's been an outbreak of a plague. Probably the Blight sickness. The whole alienage is under quarantine." He steals a quick glance at the two Denerim elves.
Kieran is clearly on edge, the scowl on his face intense enough to conjure up a storm. Lenn doesn't bat an eye. He would seem composed and collected – were it not for his hands. They often betray him – as they do now. His grip on his tankard with ale is a trifle too tight. He is staring at the table, careful to avoid any eye contact. Zev hesitates before he continues: "I—tried to charm some more information out of the guard posted by the gate." Lennan's voice is too level and too quiet when he asks: "What did you learn?" There's more hesitation as Zevran silently regards Lenn's hands. "Maker’s mercy, just spit it out!" Kieran barks and Lenn winces at the volume of his voice. The Antivan sighs and continues: "The guard said something about elven riots a while ago – and a dead noble. Howe apparently ordered a purge. Led it himself." Blood drains from Lenn's face and tension sharpens the outline of his jaw. The knuckles on his hands begin to gleam bone-white – and as sturdy as the tankards here are, Zevran half-expects that Lenn's will crack. It's hard to say what's more frightening – Lenn's silence, or Kieran's impending outburst – but it's clear which of the two is more likely to get them in trouble. Before Kieran can make a scene and before anyone else can react, one of Lennan's hands shoots for the other elf's forearm, gripping it with almost as much strength as that ale just a heartbeat ago. "Not here," he says – softly but firmly, with only the slightest hint of tremor in his voice. "Not now." Lenn's tone and, more importantly, that implied promise of 'elsewhere and later' take some steam out of Kieran's fury – and as the group slowly eases into plotting their next move, he gets distracted enough to calm down. "It ain't your fault," he mumbles towards Lenn during one of the brief silences that evening. "I appreciate the sentiment, Kieran," Lenn replies, voice flat and face schooled into an unreadable mask. Lenn is less preoccupied with his guilt than Kieran seems to think. It is there for sure, a dull throbbing ache at the back of his consciousness.
But he was barely registering it until Kieran mentioned it. And he'd rather Kieran had kept his mouth shut. "Do excuse me for leaving your company so early," he says as he puts a few coins on the table. "It's been a long day. Have a pleasant night." He notes with some displeasure his vision is becoming blurry as he walks down the hallway towards the door of his and Aeducan's room. The haze doesn't clear as he washes, changes into his night clothes and gets into bed. The night around him is like cold, muddy water and there are dozens of dead faces floating about. He's still awake when Ronan retires for the night. He turns to face the wall the moment he hears the doorknob turning. He listens to the rustling of fabric and soft splashing of water as the dwarf gets ready for bed. Then the room grows dark. "I hope they're alright, Bookworm," Ronan says by way of 'goodnight'. Lenn would respond – if only his throat weren't so tight. He squeezes his eyes shut and hopes Ronan will forgive his lapse in manners.
#more may come later#my OCs#other people's OCs#Lennan Tabris#Isseya Mahariel#Kieran Tabris#Ronan Aeducan#just some out-of-context bits#I'd assume not all wardens are present during the second one#it would probably be during one of the early trips to Denerim#now that I think of it...#we may need to think of a timeline

every odd number for the OC questionaiire, with a different OC for as many of the numbers as you have. if you run out, use canon characters you have made your own~
oh my gosh nonny. THIS IS VERY LONG. OBVIOUSLY.
1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
I wanted to make a DAO character who actually fit into the narrative/lore, rather than the more palatable from an outside-perspective rebel type. Someone who believed in the establishment, in Chantry doctrine, who was a normal human, in terms of the politics as they were described by the game. (You couldn’t really be “normal” with the origin choices though, so I ended up with Coraline Amell, human disaster.)
She turned into a terrifying angry force of nature, because honestly, you take someone who believes in the rules of the world around them, and surround them with inept blood mages and Circle politics and a failed Templar who jokes about being a bastard royal, heretics and apostates and assassins and murderers and literal actual monsters, and supposedly she has to be OKAY WITH ALL THESE TERRIBLE PEOPLE OR THE WORLD WILL END?!? FUCK ALL OF YOU.
3. How did you choose their name?
I let Thing 1 name my first mabari, who was Widget after one of his favorite picture books at the time. Ingva Brosca’s mabari was Scabbler, after a mining tool. Daryn, Adelaide Hawke’s mabari, is from Patricia Brigg’s The Hob’s Bargain. The source character in that one dies too soon, so I enjoy how mabari-Daryn lives to a ripe old age and has many many puppies post-game. The Dark is Rising/King Arthur’s dog.
Tisala Hawke’s name is from Patricia Brigg’s Dragon Bones/Dragon Blood (Hurog duology), though source material Tisala would despise Hawke Tisala, which is appropriate on several levels, if kind of sad. Hurog (Aeducan) is also from the same set of books, and exemplifies everything that has ever been terrible about the historical Hurog family, so that was me amusing myself yet again.
5. Is there any significance behind their hair color?
Ingva Brosca’s hair is brown. Her eyes are brown, her skin is brown, her clothes tend towards brown… I really wanted to make someone who looked a lot like Rica (because Ingva looks a lot like Rica), whom everyone emphasizes is eye-catching and attractive, but who could legitimately fade into every background, who would look the part of every negative Duster joke ever told, and yet is actually really lovely once you stop and look at her.
7. Is there any significance behind their height?
Erana Lavellan is tall for an elf, almost raw-boned and sparse, not at all delicate. She’s basically the same height as Blackwall,, both because I enjoy them being the same height for aesthetic/battle couple/thematic reasons *eye-to-eye and hip-to-hip* and also because it adds to how disconcerting she is for most people who meet her as Herald/Inquisitor. She’s clearly Very Dalish, and yet not at all what most people think of as “elfy” in their heads.
9. Are they based off of you, in some way?
Probably all of them are, in some ways, and none of them in others? Like, that’s a cop-out, but I never know how to answer that one. (I mean, as part of #11, I do tend to always use echoes of my own sexuality in most of my characters, just because I seldom see anyone in fiction approaching sexuality the way I do... maybe I’m still trying to figure out mine while I’m at it? Something like that.)
11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
I’m gonna cheat and not put a person here, because basically all my OC’s are various degrees of bi, except for, oddly enough, my two most recent tabletop PnP RPG characters, (Kaylani Seren, Star Wars Pilot, and Shan Xia, angry cursed selkie), who are both lesbians.
Probably because of how much @darthkrzysztof and I tend to “joke” that lesbians make everything better?
13. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
Well, Miri Hawke’s entire fic-life/inspiration is past canon? She is Princess of Starkhaven with an unofficial semi-secret second husband in Fenris. They’re a pretty happy and stable triad, though they are (mostly) careful that their first child is Sebastian’s to avoid inheritance issues. (Later, their twins have green eyes, which rather gives it away to anyone who didn’t already know, since Miri’s are brown and Sebastian’s are infamously blue.)
15. What is something about your OC can make you laugh?
Cherries!
(aka the Adelaide Hawke/Sebastian Vael first time having sex fic for the kinkmeme... it was like, only the second thing I’d written for them, too? Adelaide Hawke exists because the kinkmeme was full of really sad and disturbing Sebastian prompts/fills when I first found it and I wanted SOMEONE TO LOVE HIM. Romantically. I mean, yes, physically too obviously I’ve written a lot of smut-fic, but the original inspiration was just that I liked the character and no one else I knew at the time seemed to.)
17. Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
Hmm. Neria Surana started with And/rs reminiscing after her death but then I wrote some earlier fic for her and had feels and she really deserved better than to be pre-emptively doomed. (Sorry Niall, you did too.)
19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?
Ella Shepard exists because of Ellen Ripley, even if she’s two or three incarnations removed from my very first vanguard Ellen playthrough of ME1, oh so many years ago.
#Anonymous#jilly answers#oc memery#ella shepard#neria surana#adelaide hawke#miri hawke#kaylani seren#shan xia#erana lavellan#ingva brosca#coraline amell#and a bunch of mabari

DJ Fat Chip Was Tagged! :D)
I was tagged by the wonderful @thatonecurlygurl to do a
Face Claim Meme
Thank you CHP love! *bear hug*
CHP you gave me a very hard one to think about lol. Especially since my canon mages don’t have face claims and I just created them as I moved around the CC. All I can tell you is that my Canon Mages were inspired based on the earth. Vivianna is like a forest. Lilyann is the beach on a summer’s day. Gissella is the moon or snowy places. Thats what I had in mind for them plus of course Sailor Scouts lol, Vivianna = Sailor Jupiter, Gissella = Queen Serenity (mother of Princess Serenity), Lilyann = Sailor Moon (Usagi Tuskino).
The only one who cannot be in this list is the Badass Mole: Mathilde Aeducan as I really don’t know a face claim for her. Like I tried many but none fit her face of what I think about.
Mass Effect:
Celestine Claire Shepard’s face claim is Claire Farron from Final Fantasy 13, 13-2 and Lighting Returns.
Bryant Leon Shepard’s face claim is Juan Alfonso Baptista.
Dragon Age:
Vivianna Amell’s face claim is Anahi (she has a long name...)
Lilyann Leandra Hawke's face claim Is Ludwika Paleta.
Gissella Trevelyan's face claim is Edith González.
Ravyn Zilthai Trevelyan's face claim is Lucy Liu.
Melinda Gillian Renelle's face claim is Meliodas.
I FORGOT THE BONUS! D: That’s how you know im sick. xD
MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA:
My Female Ryder’s face claim is Selena Quintanilla - Perez. (Favorite number one singer and idol of my life) Her name is Celestia Saveria Ryder.
My Male Ryder’s face claim is Mario Cimarro. His name is Roger Alonso Ryder.
They are nicknamed: Birds of Prey
I tag: @lliiaraarabana, @leysendris, @erubadhriell, @emry07-universe, @somniaries, @koric, @guidethisonekalahira, @arideya, @ethanscribbles, @vorchagirl, @sentinelviktorcullen, @katerinyaa, @jessicapendragon, @dracoangelz, @wasdmoving, @kadustuniverse, @changelingsandothernonsense, @flowerbabytrevelyan, @cantkeepmyeyesoff, @leo-fina, @lovetoomuchstuff and anyone else who wants to participate please tag me! :D)

The scene I always insert in my head that we didn’t get in-game at the start of the Orzammar mission line is the guards at the entrance greeting Sereda with a slack-jawed, bug-eyed “Princess Aeducan!?” while everyone else in the party immediately turns to Sereda with matching looks because she just never saw fit to mention she was dwarven royalty

The way I see it is this: Sereda was willing to strike the final blow on the archdemon and kill it, but when Loghain volunteered, she wasn’t about to fight him over who was going to sacrifice themselves
#serenity aeducan#da#dao#it worked out for her#but she's extremely practical when it comes to warfare#so if he hadn't stepped up or even if she had had the chance for a clear shot and been the only one around#she would have done it because they needed to win the fight
