Thoughts on Kaguya Hime no Koibito :)

After watching both the first and final day performances, I think that the singing was a little better during the final day performance, but both were really nice. I will probably have more to say after I get to watch it with subtitles at some point, but here are my thoughts for now:

I think the Inner Guardians were all really good! Riko Tanaka (Moon) reminds me a bit of Satomi. She was really cute and her facial expressions (especially during Mako/Minako/Setsuna’s birthday part) were really funny. I love it when the Sailor Moon actresses are kind of able to convey Usagi’s exaggerated expressions like the 90s anime had. I like her voice too. Kanon Maekawa (Mercury) seemed really sweet (very 90s anime Ami) and Rei Kobayashi (Mars) played a mature but fun Rei. I’m always here for Sailor Jupiter because she’s my favorite, and I think Kisara Matsumura’s voice sounded really nice. Marin Makino (Venus) was just...the cutest. Her karaoke performance at the birthday party and her part of the Inners intro song was just so Minako. When she was waving at the audience my sister and I were joking that she reminded us of Pauline in Mario Tennis.

I think both Chibi Moons were really good! Both had nice voices and Chibiusa energy.

The Outer Guardians...I live for the Outers. Jupiter is my favorite, but the Outers have my heart too, and this cast was excellent. Shinjyu Terada (Uranus) and Ayana Kinoshita (Neptune) were really cute together (definitely one of my favorite Harumichi pairings). Ayana reminds me very much of 90s anime Michiru and I like her voice for Michiru! Speaking of voices, oh my god Yuuka Ide (Saturn) can SING! Her solos were amazing! Love her. I really like Chisato Minami (Pluto). At first it felt weird to me to be watching a Nelke musical without Mikako Ishii (I miss her :( ), but Chisato played Pluto really well. Shinjyu felt very Haruka to me too.

I really like both Lunas, especially cat-Luna. Her voice was AMAZING.

I usually don’t like Mamoru as a character (I’m sorry) but I like Riku Sorahane. She has a really nice voice and made Mamoru a little more likeable for me.

I thought the rest of the cast was great too, I just mostly had opinions about the guardian cast.

Overall I think the guardian cast was amazing and they all worked really well together! I would LOVE to see them all together in another musical.

In terms of songs, overall I think they were pretty good! Even though it wasn’t a realistic hope, I was really really hoping they would include an earlier song like Ai no Starshine or La Soldier as a service number. I liked the new one and of course Moonlight Densetsu is iconic, but they brought La Soldier back for Nogimyu and The Super Live so why not this one too :(

“You’re My Universe” and the Inners and Outers intro songs were really good though, I have been listening to them on repeat. The song they all sang together at the birthday party was pure cuteness and it low-key reminded me of Unubore Shoujo ga Yatte Kita!! (just the way it sounded, I don’t know the lyrics). The fact that Setsuna and Haruka were reluctant to join in was really funny.

Okay, now for the costumes. I think the new Super Sailor Moon costume is stunning! Especially the brooches and poofy skirt. Definitely my favorite myu Super Sailor Moon costume.

I really liked all the of the costumes, I’m a big fan of the sparkles and poofy skirts. Waaaay back when I first saw the promotional photos I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have the signature sera myu gold trim, but seeing them now I really like them. Also, Neptune’s wig is gorgeous.

The lights/special effects were breathtaking. I love that they project each guardians planet symbols in the background. The lightning effects for Sailor Jupiter and the fire effects for Sailor Mars during the Inners intro song were wonderful. And the Outers’ entrance at the beginning in “You’re My Universe”....*chef’s kiss*

💖I have the honor of getting my huge Sera Myu group featured in @cosplayrealmmagazine for their November magical girl issue! • Here is the blurb I wrote about it if you can’t see the small text: • "Sera Myu means a lot to many Sailor Moon fans. It's been a series of musicals since 1993 and they've inspired many cosplayers over the years with their flashy, sparkly, sometimes over-the-top designs. This 14 person group I organized was inspired by a newer version of the Sailor Moon stage musicals called Sera Myu: Le Mouvement Final, which debuted on stage in fall 2017. I fell in love with the costumes; they had the recognizable collar style and two layer skirts from the 90s musicals but with a more sleek, modern fit, gorgeous use of metallic and pearlescent materials, as well as trims and little details that made them stand out from the rest. I carefully selected a group of cosplayer friends who I knew loved Sailor Moon and who would be just as passionate and determined as I was to see this through. It was a huge undertaking with months of research, materials hunting, planning, costume construction, and dance practice all leading up to a competition. While I did most of the base patterning myself a few of the girls helped out with various parts and I would frequently get group feedback about how things were looking. Every senshi made their own respective costume, following the same pattern, helping each other where needed. It created a seamless and consistent look to every costume. Our Starlights however, were an almost completely different pattern, aside from the collars, and I owe so much to our Sailor Star Maker, @secondstar_cosplay, for helping to pattern and sew a lot of those pieces. It was a group effort at every turn and I am so proud of what we accomplished. We walked away with Best in Show at Wondercon 2019! I also want to give a special shout out of thanks to @jilliancosplays for her help with some supply sourcing and patterning guidance. Guide to New Myu

Everyone who follows my Tumblr probably by now knows about my passion for cosplay and the ton on research I usually do for my costumes- especially for Neptune’s Sera Myu costume which still drives me crazy sometimes.

Since I don’t wanna keep all this for myself I figured to share my knowledge and finds for anyone else who feels crazy and patient enough to give these costumes a go. Most of this will be Neptune related of course and I won't be able to cover all the other senshi as well, but since I already have a ton of pictures and references at hand feel free to ask me details about the other senshi as well.

I’ll try to keep this post as the general overview. I will link the different topics as I go along, so they can be found easy and hopefully nothing gets lost along the way.

🌙Since it’s #MoonieMonday I thought I’d post an update on my Sera Myu Super Moon. Here is where she was left after not being able to finish for @fanimecon. It was such a bummer. I’m honestly not sure what I came away with on that experience. The two weeks of late nights and stress leading up to Fanime triggered a week long fibromyalgia flare up for me, which I just got over. It was frustrating and @windofthestars and I definitely had the wind taken out of our sails to work on these since. Now that life has calmed for me, I’m making a list of what needs to be done. There’s lots of snaps and small tacking on the collar and butt bow but also the wig needs lots of work. We stubbed them, added the ponytails over the stubs (accurate to the stage versions) and made separate odango buns that will be covered in wig fibers horizontally with a swirl of fibers on the back side (weird, I know). Those are actually attached with neodymium magnets for easy removal for travel and storage. I also plan to fill in the bangs more to hide the wefting better and ventilate a lacefront at the bang center. The ponytails will be encased in a nude-yellow net casing like the stage wig. The ends will be curled. I need the moons for my boot tops made and attached and the bodice will be completed with the last stage accurate trim from Japan! (Check my story highlights for more details)✨ I’ve learned a lot of new things having done this project, it’s NOT perfect and there’s things that bug me, but overall I’m happy with it. It’s like a warmup to when I make Eternal Moon this fall! Sera Myu costuming is a disease, y’all. Don’t do it ✨🌙 • 💕Gentle reminder that I’m not planning to put out my Myu patterns right now but if I do I will sell them through my site I’m working on and I would definitely announce it. Things like this are a TON of work (over 2 years) and it’s just a hobby for me. It would take many more hours to digitize and I can’t devote that kind of time for a while. Day 19 of @redthreaded’s #fallforcostume challenge is “Big”! • I thought a while of what to post and I HAD to pick my Sera Myu: Le Mouvement Final group. It was and is absolutely the BIGGEST undertaking of my costuming life. We had 15 people total. Moons, Tuxedo, Inner and Outer Senshi, plus the Starlights! I began working on this in February 2017, picking my cast of senshi, curating materials lists, and creating the patterns. With the help of @yaminogame we were able to buy tons of stage curate trims and materials from Japan! Finally, we debuted our group at Fanime 2018 ✨💕🌙 I’m so proud of everyone and grateful to them for making this dream come true! Everyone made their own costumes, I patterned the senshi fuku. Moons, cosmos, and starlights had some special parts they did themselves. I’m so happy it came together. • Most of us have been perfecting and updating our costumes for entering the @wondercon 2019 masquerade! Here’s a fun side by side of my Sera Myu Venus! Not too bad! I want to tweak a few things but overall I’m very happy with how it turned out. It was SO difficult finding accurate trims (or making them from scratch). Such a rewarding project though, as anyone in my group can tell you. We all looked awesome 🌙 I’ll be competing in this soon!
