Meryll of House Frey (OC) -- Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire
Tumblr media
FULL NAME:  Meryll Frey BORN: 281 AC ALLEGIANCE: House Frey CULTURE: Riverlands STATUS: Unmarried RELIGION:  The Seven LOCATION: The Twins, Riverlands SOCIAL CLASS: Noble SPOKEN LANGUAGES: Westerosi Common Tongue, High Valyrian
MOTHER: Mariya Frey (of House Darry) FATHER: Merrett Frey, Ninth Son of Walder Frey SIBLINGS: Amerei "Gatehouse Ami" Frey, "Fat" Walda Frey, Marissa Frey, "Little" Walder
FACE CLAIM: Gemma Arterton HAIR COLOR: Chestnut Brown EYE COLOR: Light Brown TATTOO(S): N/A SCAR(S): N/A
ATTRACTS WITH: Captivating charm and compassion, complexity, humour, loyalty, marvellous mind, eccentricities, humanitarian conscience, high ideals and inspiring imagination, exaggerated curiosity
LOSES WITH: Self-righteousness and brutal honesty, emotional defenses and paralysis, lack of deep personal engagement, unreasonable arguments and opposition
BIOGRAPHY: Meryll was the fourth daughter born to Merrett and Mariya Frey. Four girls, and no sons. Her father had been greatly disappointed by the birth of another daughter. Meryll can't remember if anyone ever told her that, but as a child, she must have sensed it on some level, because as early as she can remember, she tried to be the son her father wanted. She dressed in boys clothing and followed him everywhere. He taught her how to care for the horses, how to fish, how to ford the river when the waters were high, and other practical skills.
After Meryll's tenth nameday, Merrett and Mariya were finally blessed with a boy -- "Little" Walder, and her father finally had a real son. She was getting to an age were she couldn't really pass herself off as a boy anymore anyway. Around this same time, Merrett began suffering terrible headaches as a result of a head injury suffered when he was a squire. He started drinking heavily and became known as the Twin's biggest drunk, none of which improved his mood. He was a mean drunk and Meryll began to feel as if her very existence offended him somehow. Fortunately, her Uncle Danwell and Aunt Winnifrei, who had not been able to have children, stepped in and raised Meryll as if she was their own.
Meryll begged for a sword but Uncle Danwell didn't think it wise to give such an unruly girl a blade, and instead presented her with a bow. She turned out to be a natural with a good eye and steady hand.
Growing up at the Twins, Meryll was close with her three sisters, Amerei, Walda and Marissa, as well as an uncle of similar age to her, Olyvar, and a cousin, Alesander. Meryll didn't have a bad relationship with her mother, but Mariya wasa prickly woman, lacking in warmth.
While home at the Twins, Meryll spends as much time as possible outdoors, and can often be found reading by the riverbank. She is particularly fond of tales of the great knights, her favourite being Ser Barristan the Bold, Ser Gerald Hightower, and Ser Duncan the tall -- in that order.
VERSES:
There will be blood | Pre- Red Wedding (AGOT, ACOK)
This is a time of uncertainty for House Frey. Meryll has kinsmen who are loyal to the Starks, and kinsmen who think the only way for House Frey to survive is to kneel to King Joffrey. In this verse, Meryll can be found in:
The Twins (default)
Kings Landing – attending the Tourney of  the Hand with her Uncle Danwell
Winterfell – as Catelyn’s wards along with Little Walder and Big Walder
The Dreadfort – helping pregnant sister Walda
10 things I hate about you | Post- Red Wedding
Meryll is conflicted about her family’s actions and is looking for a way to leave The Twins. It is a dangerous time, however, with House Frey being persona non grata, and it’s hard to know who to trust. In this verse, Meryll can be found:
At The Twins, plotting her escape
Travelling around Westeros, hiding her identity
Across the Narrow Sea | Post- Red Wedding, in Essos
Meryll has accompanied her childhood hero, Ser Barristan Selmy, to Essos to find Daenerys Stormborn. In this verse, Meryll can be found:
in various locations of Essos, still searching for Daenerys
anywhere along Daenerys’ book or show route

House of the Dragon 1x05: Review
First of all, this episode without the presence of Daemon would have been so boring. He honestly carried the show.
Question: Did she or did she not drink the moon tea?
I have just learned that they confirmed that Viserys has leprosy.
What a bastard this Layrs Strong, I don’t know what’s his game at this point of the story. Telling Alicent about the moon tea in front of the crying weirhood (first time that we see that no?).
What a change of situation this time between Viserys and Rhaenys and Corlys. I like it. Such an interesting discussion, especially the one with the children’s name of Rhaenyra and Laenor. Rhaenys is such an incredible and intelligent woman and the love she shares with her husband is genuine and beautiful.
The moment we meet Joffrey, I knew he was trouble.
I don’t even feel sad for Ser Cole at this point, but honestly how could he be so stupid to even believe that she will accept his proposal or even love him for what he is. And why did he even mention to Queen Alicent what transpired between him and Rhaenyra, what a cunt (like Joffrey would said).
It seems that Orwyle is better than the grand Maester or is it just a game too?
My favourite part was the wedding’s feast, the music was amazing, perfect for the situation.
Why Ser Gerald Rhoyce of Runestone (cousin of Lady Rhea Rhoyce) cut the presentation of Hubert Hightower and his family? Important sign?
For lack of repeating myself, the entrance, the presence and the action of Daemon Targaryen during the feast was everything to me.
Finally, the long awaited green dress is here and what a dramatic entrance Alicent.
The dance was beautiful, everyone watching everyone. So it starts like this Rhaenyra and Laenor watching each other, than Joffrey watching Laenor, while Daemon is watching Rhaenyra, and her him (and not Ser Cole) and finally Joffrey watching Ser Cole and Laenor.
I have also noticed an important foreshadowing. Did you notice that Rhaenyra switched first Laenor with Harwin, than Harwin switched with Prince Daemon!!! OMG.
Furthermore, Rhaenyra is so jealous when Daemon just dared to flirt with Laena (on purpose).
Again, repeating myself, Ser Cole set aside that he is stupid, he is also blind. He couldn’t even notice at the feast that the true desire of Rhaenyra’s heart is Daemon. Honestly, I don’t believe that he couldn’t be jealous of Daemon at this point, as he knows so much the princess.
For my part, I believe that at the end of Rhaenyra and Daemon’s discussion, they shared a kiss.
Also, I really want to thank Harwin for saving the princess. Where was Daemon? I’m pretty sure it was made on purpose for what will happened next. Hoping he would have been the one.
Finally, there was also a big parallels between Prince Daemon and Ser Cole. As when Ser Cole made his petition to Rhaenyra, she rejected him. As when Rhaenyra made the same proposition to Daemon, she embraced it. And a marriage of love was mentioned, I can presume it’s another foreshadowing.
I’m pretty sure that they cut some scenes, such as Daemon killing Laena’s suitor. And I do not agree with the 10 years jump in the next episode, WTF!
So much thoughts to come. Stay tuned.

Note
According to the House of Undying visions, Rhaegar said that his son, Aegon, is the “Prince that was Promised”.
When the rebellion broke out, this is what the kingsguard were doing:
Ser Barristan, Ser Jon Darry and Prince Lewyn Martell were at the Trident with Rhaegar.
Ser Arthur Dayne, Ser Gerald Hightower and Ser Oswell Whent were at the Tower of Joy.
Ser Jaime Lannister was guarding king Aerys at the capital.
If Aegon really is the Azor Ahai, or whatever, then he should focus more on his son’s and family’s wellbeing; he should’ve left Ser Arthur at the capital. Instead, he assigned the young Ser Jaime to guard them. I know that Jaime didn’t account for his father’s army ransacking tha capital, but still... quite a dumb move for Rhaegar, really.
But one is I know for sure, about Rhaegar: That he was vain and extremely deluded and could not possibly fathom his defeat. He thought that Elia and his children would be safe in the capital. In the end, they were all killed (except Aegon, if he really is Young Griff) by the Mountain, whom Rhaegar knighted.
In a way, Rhaegar left his wife and children to die, in favor of Lyanna. 🤮 His vanity and his deluded mind got the better of him. Thankfully, Robert killed him at the Trident. I’m afraid to think of what further damage might Rhaegar have done if he lived and become king. I hope Young Griff (Aegon) is more of Elia than Rhaegar, but there’s Jon Connington (who’s a Rhaegar fanboy) who raised him while he’s still young.
He was so confident that Aegon was the Prince that was Promised and that Rhaenys and he were two of his three dragon heads he couldn’t even imagine that they would be placed in any danger.
I think that even though Lyanna was pregnant when he left, he was aware that people were looking for her and that his Visenya was in danger of not being born.
He’s an idiot who placed too much of a belief in prophecies.

Note
What do you think happens in that no pregant senario where Arthur Dayne, Gerald Hightower, and Oswell Whent goes with Rhaegar and either all three or just Arthur Dayne gets captured like Ser Barristan? Also, with no prophecied baby and dead rhaegar.. do you think it rips the wool from their eyes that Rhaegar was so terribly wrong?
That’s a tough question because exactly what did they know and what did they think about it? Any of them or all of them might have been loyal to the vision or may have simply been personally loyal to Rhaegar and simply acceded to his wishes without sincere belief. But given that Barristan has very little self-reflection about his own enabling of Aerys II’s misrule and tyranny, I sincerely doubt that any of them would be any more willing to engage in the notion. But without knowledge of who they were as people, alas, it’s just speculation.
Thanks for the question, Anon.
