Are there legitimate criticisms of the sequel trilogy? Yes of course, I like the sequels but I’m not gonna pretend like they’re secret masterpieces or anything.
HOWEVER, if you’re gonna make a complaint at least don’t let it be stupid.
“The fighting in the prequels is way better than the sequels 🥶”
WOW… you’re telling Me a trilogy where kids were brought up learning how to fight with lightsabers by numerous masters has better fighting than an adult who had no prior experience with the thing and the Only master around was Uninterested in showing them anything and they had to teach themselves how to fight? WHAT a groundbreaking revelation!
Hell even in the case of the original trilogy Luke wasn’t the greatest skilled at wielding a lightsaber so what the hell was he gonna teach people like Ben and Rey? Seeing as he tried to kill his own nephew and was trying to make Rey leave the entire time, you were expecting the two to be able to fight like Anakin and Obi-wan like in the prequels? Really?

Look how cute he is; anyway, I've got a Kylo Ren x reader fic I'm working on that I wrote the first chapter for in December and then got super busy. But! I'm back now and chapter 2 should be done by tomorrow. I have massive, very self-indulgent plans for this fic🤞
That being said a little bit about it under the cut.
• Reader is from Earth and chose to join a First Order doctor she helped who had crash landed.
• She decided to leave her life behind mainly to get away from a crazy ex-boyfriend who wouldn't leave her alone, but also because she wanted that experience for herself (who wouldn't??)
• Either way, she ends up working under this doctor for 3 years before the story takes place. Puts reader in her mid-20s or so.
• Cliche, I'm sure you know where this is going, she's tasked with helping Kylo after Rey rocks his shit in TFA.
• Reader pulls no punches; I pull no punches. She's bitchy, she's cunty, she's delusional, she's dramatic, and she's a major man hater because what's the point of fanfiction if it's not self-indulgent?
• Best friends with Hux, she waltzes in unannounced to complain or gossip or talk about Taylor Swift (love of my life😔😔)
• Hux will 100% be a Swifty
• He thinks Reader is annoying at first but they end up 🤞 and he starts talking to her too
• I'm gonna give him a cute little boyfriend that Reader instigates
• On that note Bisexual!Reader
• Slowest slow burn EVER it will be agonizing but don't worry I'll add all the little scenes that everyone eats up in a slow burn, the tension will be unmatched
• Kylo? mean at first, for sure, but so is the reader. He'll warm up to her, start asking questions when she won't shut up instead of telling her to be quiet and do her job
• His puppy dog eyes will be entirely unreasonable but who doesn't love a tortured soul
• Reader will eventually be assigned as his personal medic and will go on missions with him which leads to a lot of chapters based around planet exploration, I have a LOT of ideas for that
• Might get raunchy, might get philosophical, maybe a little personal idk I just went through a breakup and had just been through a different breakup when I planned this fic and both guys were EVIL‼️‼️ beware Reader will be working through it and so will I
• on that note self indulgent Protective!Kylo 🤭
• Reader's mother is wonderful, ride or die bitch
• Reader's father is mostly absent
• Expect lots of cute scenes, character development, and angst because I LOVE angst.
• You thought the planet exploration would be safe? 😬 you would be wrong
• It'll verrrry loosely follow TLJ and will be a spread-out timeframe
• Jealous!Reader who is crazy and out of pocket but only because I am
I'll be posting on AO3, you can read it here if you're interested!

what part of Star Wars do you like? I like the Legends series and anything to do with Mandalorians.
Omg great question!!
I love the original series, the Mandalorian series, and, controversial opinion, the sequels 💖
Idc about plot consistencies, I enjoy Finn and Rey and Poe and BB-8 SO MUCH, they’re my special little guys and I think they have such a great friendship dynamic 🥹 their group hug at the end of Rise of Skywalker made me cry 💕
I don’t talk or blog about it often because most of my Star Wars fan friends hate the sequels with a passion. I don’t care, though. I’ll keep loving them.
And of course I love Din Djarin so much, I love the idea of him and Luke Skywalker co-parenting Grogu, they’d have such a good dynamic 😭 I love Dinluke what can I say
Thanks for the ask!!
#if you’re a sequel hater I’m sorry about this I guess but you did ask#I gotta tell the truth 🫡#Star Wars#star wars sequel trilogy#my beloved#star wars original trilogy#my Beloved beloved#the Mandalorian#dinluke

your tags on my set were a gem to wake up to and I wish I lived in the world where everyone thought it, but sadly yes! It was a huge thing after tlj came out, that Poe was a misogynistic asshole who didn't respect women and that was why he disobeyed Leia and Holdo's orders/didn't like Holdo. The backlash against Poe after that movie was immense, you couldn't go anywhere without seeing it, and a lot of people loved painting him as the movie's example of toxic masculinity. Luckily, that seemed to have died down in the last few years, but I still see some lingering remnants for it here and there 🥴
wowwwwwwwwwww, that is unreal! how anyone could misunderstand his character so much they'd label him a misogynist is beyond me. 😕 almost like they were watching a completely different set of movies tbh. suddenly i'm very glad i was not participating in the online sw communities when those movies were coming out lol because that would've pissed me tf off!
#anyone trying to call poe a misogynist now finna get slapped.#then again#tlj (which is arguably the most-hated sw sequel) is my favorite of the sequel trilogy so#maybe i shouldn't be surprised that i didn't see what the haters saw lmao

godddddd i have disliked becky chambers' work since long way to a small angry planet and I agree that that fish scene is SO much of what is wrong with contemporary SFF especially queer SFF. refreshing take, great review, thank you. would love to hear what authors or works you think of as the antidote to that sensibility.
The thing is, I enjoyed The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet when I first read it - it was a fun, light adventure, clearly a debut novel but I was excited to see where Chambers would go from there. And I actually really do think the sequel, A Closed and Common Orbit, was good! It did interesting things with AI personhood and identity.
... and then Chambers just kinda. Did not get better. She settled into a groove and has a set number of ideas that I feel like she hasn't broken out of, creatively. And they I M O kind of rest on an assumption that "human nature" = "how people act in suburban California."
As an antidote to that sensibility, I'd say... books where people have a real interrelationship with the land they inhabit, a sense of being present, and reciprocal obligations to that land; books that recognize that some things can never be taken back once done; books with well-drawn characters, where people have strong opinions deeply informed by their circumstances, that can't always be easily reconciled with others, and won't be brushed aside; books where these character choices matter, they impact each other, they cannot be easily gotten over, because people have obligations to each other and not-acting is a choice too.
And it's only fair that after all day of being a Hater I should rec some books I really did like.
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke - A man lives alone in an infinite House, over an equally infinite ocean. Captures the feeling that I think Monk & Robot was aiming for. Breathtaking beauty, wonder at the world, philosophy of truth, all that good stuff, and actually sticks the landing. The main character's love, attention, and care to his fantasy environment shows through in every page. (Fantasy, short novel)
Imperial Radch by Ann Leckie - An AI, the one fragment remaining of a destroyed imperial spaceship, is on a quest for revenge. Leckie gets cultural differences and multiculturalism, and conversely, what the imposition of a homogeneous culture in the name of unity means. (Space sci-fi, novel trilogy)
Machineries of Empire by Yoon Ha Lee - An army captain's insubordination is punished by giving her a near-impossible mission: to take down a rebelling, heretical sect holing up in a space fortress and defying imperial power. She gets a long dead brain-ghost of a notorious criminal downloaded into her head to help. Very, very good at making you feel like every doomed soldier was a person with a past, with a family, with feelings, with hopes and dreams and frustrations and favorites and preferences and reasons to live, right before they brutally die in a space war. Also very much about the imposition of homogeneity of culture as a force of imperialism. (Space sci-fi, novel trilogy)
The Fortunate Fall by Cameron Reed - Maya Andreyevna is a VR journalist in high-tech dystopian future Russia, and she decides to investigate the truth that the government doesn't want her to. She might die trying. It's fine. Also has digital brain-sharing, this time in a gay way. It's bleak. It's sad. It feels real. Not making a choice is a choice. Backing out is a choice. And choices have consequences. Choices reverberate through history. About responsibility. (Cyberpunk, novel)
The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez - Nia Imani is a spaceship captain, a woman out of time, a woman running from her past, and accidentally adopts a boy who has a strange power that could change the galaxy. Spaceship crew-as-found-family in the most heartbreaking of ways. Also about choices, how the choices you make and refuse to make shape you and shape the world around you. How the world is always changing around you, how the world does not stay still when you're gone, and when you come back you're the same but the world has moved on around you. About how relationships aren't always forever, and that doesn't mean they weren't important. About responsibility to others. It's a slow, sad book and does not let anyone rest on their laurels, ever. There is no end of history here. Everything is always changing, on large scales and small, and leaving you behind. (Space sci-fi, novel)
Dungeon Meshi / Delicious in Dungeon by Ryoko Kui - A D&D style fantasy dungeon crawl that stops to think deeply about why there are so many dungeons full of monsters and treasure just hanging around. Here because it's an example of an author thinking through her worldbuilding a lot, and it mattering. Also because of the characters' respect for the animals they are are killing and eating, their lives and their place in the ecosystem, and the ways that humans both fuck up ecosystems with extraction and tourism, but also the ways that you can have reciprocal relationships of responsibility and care with the ecosystem you live in, even if it's considered a dangerous one. (Fantasy, manga series)
Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang and How Long 'Til Black Future Month by N. K. Jemisin and Everyone on the Moon is Essential Personnel by Julian K. Jarboe - Short story anthologies that were SO good and SO weird and rewired the way I think. If you want the kind of stuff that is like, the opposite of easy-to-digest feel-good pap, these short stories will get into your brain and make you consider stuff and look at the world from new angles. Most of them aren't particularly upbeat, but there's a lot of variety in the moods.
"Homecoming is Just Another Word for the Sublimation of the Self," "Calf Cleaving in the Benthic Black," and "Termination Stories for the Cyberpunk Dystopia Protagonist" by Isabel J. Kim - Short stories, sci-fi mostly, that twist around in my head and make me think. Kim is very good at that. Also about choices and not-making-choices, about going and staying, about taking the easy route or the hard one, about controlling the narrative.
The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells - Security robot with guns in its arms hacks itself free from its oppressive company, mostly wants to half-ass its job but gets sucked into drama, intrigue, and caring against its better judgement. This is on here because 1) I love it 2) I feel like it does for me what cozy sff so frequently fails to do - it makes me feel seen and comforted. It's hopeful and compassionate and about personal growth and finding community and finding one's place in the world, without brushing aside all problems or acting like "everybody effortlessly just gets along" is a meaningful proposal. also 3) because it is one of the few times I have yet seen characters from a hippie, pacifistic, eco-friendly, welcoming, utopian society actually act like people. The humans from Preservation are friendly, helpful, and motivated by truth and justice and compassion, because they come from a friendly, just, compassionate society, and they still actually act like real human beings with different personalities and conflicting opinions and poor reactions to stress and anger and frustration and fear and the whole range of human emotions rather than bland niceness. Also 4) I love it (space sci-fi, novella series mostly)

cuz at first ajaa wasnt even meant to exist it was just meant to be the trilogy and thats it, then while theyre porting it over to the nintendo ds capcom gives them the green light to go nuts with a bonus pseudo-dlc case and By God Do They, making the longest case yet of RFTA with fully animated 3d cutscenes + an incredibly convoluted plot that makes the most out of aa1's 3 day trial system + fully modelled 3d rotational evidence, hitting heavy themes of police corruption and evidence forgery and whatnot like they went INSANE, cuz this was supposed to be IT. this was supposed to be ace attorneys big finale and farewell but SIKE oh my god the actual Ministry Of Justice has knocked on capcoms door and told them hey can you make some propaganda for us. so now the aa team has to make propaganda for them. right after burning themselves the fuck out from creating rfta. all that time spent on rfta which couldve been development time for ajaa.... too late. cant be taken back. apollo justice is designed in less than a week and theyre marketing this game while the team is still making it, takumi crazed madman that he is decides to not rely on old characters which while that is an artistic slay, sets up the stage for a marketing failure, and a new artistic team of infinite ambition goes nuts with creating derangedly detailed animations
⬆️ like oh my god are you insane. thank you so much BUT ARE YOU INSANE? all while still making 3d renders of evidence and random 3d animations and it looks so awesome BUT THERES NOT ENOUGH TIME, 3 wonderful cases are made but 4-4 falls on its face. 6 hours long instead of the usual 10 and only one cross-examination in the final trial and 2 whole main characters with no backstory like its bad. its going to be bad. but its too late. the most incomplete ace attorney game has to be rushed out of the gates and the sales are made But The Reception Is Bad. Real Bad. 2000s hater gamer crowds were the first of its kind, being massively fuelled by the internet, haters back then could sink their teeth deep into a company, which is what got nintendo scrambling away from their wind waker art direction to appease the gamers w twilight princess. so similarly when the hate for ajaa came on, cuz whattt phoenix disbarred and no 😤 old characters 😤😤, capcom scrambled to appease the masses. but oh oh whats this? takumi says 'yeahhhh Nah' and says he wants to make a game about his dog. OK. cant persuade him away from that. might as well let some new blood handle the franchise in takumi's place then, but for The Love Of God do not make an ajaa followup. the gamers will kill us. and so the aai duology was born....... cool........ first one's reception was so bad that localization plans were dropped entirely for the sequel. wow. takumi is fresh off from ghost trick but fucking what, 5 years has passed now, and the new hot console is the nintendo THREE ds. 3ds. wowwww. fucking... PROFESSOR LAYTON kidnaps takumi to make plvpwaa and ajaa continues to be left in the dust. fucking nobody wants him. poor orphaned kitten left in the street. all while the trilogy gets 9584948 million adaptations. and yamazaki twiddles his thumbs thinking abt making aai3 but after thinking it over hes like yeah ill try making aa5. capcom lets him and.......... its over........ they tell him sure go for it But Do Not Follow Up On Apollo Everyone Hates Him please make phoenix the protag. a recipe for disaster. and a disaster aa5 is. juggling THREE protags a complete mess and they do a popularity poll and wow would u look at who came first, fucking APOLLO. JUSTICEEEEEEE. its almost like.... gamers opinions..... are not valuable in the long run.. and popular opinion has never signified artistic understanding.... aa6 comes chugging along and yamazaki addicted to racism cranks out something even worse. both aa56 makes the sales it needs but mindless fanservice can only get u so far... its been nearly 10 years since the ajaa 'trilogy' titles released and the general consensus is that Aaja Was Good and aa56 Not So Much but what can you do now? heres the apollo justice trilogy please buy it and deeply lower ur expectations for coherent and cohesive narratives which have basis in reality thank u. bc u will not be finding that here. ajaa never stood a chance.. they werent doomed by the narrative. its worse. they were doomed by STUPID FUCKING GAMERS AND STUPID EXECUTIVE DECISIONS 😭😭😭

Armada/Micron Legend starscream is not the same person as Cybertron/Galaxy force starscream (Duh)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a58024c24993b040ca8148355404e3e5/8168b1eadfa7fb2e-e4/s540x810/ff06adc13494e4905efe3308553db34aebc6a98e.jpg)
i mean obviously.....I know Galaxy Force/Cybertron was retconned to be a sequel to Superlink/Energon (in the dub? specifically i think?? i watched everything in sub so. whatever it got retconned regardless) but honestly i thought that was utterly stupid and i get a little sad when people see those two starscreams as the same person. please. I mean i giggled when i first found out about the retconning thing bcs shit don't add up at all whyd they even do that😭stupid as hell
Honestly i didn't like whatever nightscream was supposed to be (I know overall what happens with him, i read instead of watching the show. Superlink is the only show from the unicron trilogy i didn't watch. i got bored lmfao) but just the idea of starscream coming back just undermines his sacrifice in armada/Micron legend idk why people talk about that less but more about op getting revived in rid2015😭💀 also i heard that he was supposed to be thrust? man whatever fuck Superlink this is about Galaxy force
theyre like polar opposites LMFAO they couldn't be more far apart... despite being opposites though i like both of them for what they are. Micron Legend screamers like, anything but a starscream but thats fine (the original version of the anime was giving random ass names to characters on top of that. why is demolisher named ironhide😭🙏). He is a decepticon, but he has good in his heart as was willing to sacrifice himself for a greater good. Galaxy force screamer on the other hand, is an unapologetically EVIL HOE who only cares about himself. And thats hilarious because wdym thats a part of the retcon what did yall feed him in superlink😭please wkwhwjqjbqakkxkxj. no sob story no nothing just a menace a true hater for the love of the game. Personally i think we should put them in a little cage and watch them kill eachother
Its like Galaxy force writers looked at Micron Legend and specifically wrote a polar opposite of the starscream in it. and some mf was like hmm yes. these are the same person. this is a good idea.
i need to see them interact. someone is going 2 die
Also their facial features r funny too Micron legend screamer looks handsome and polite like a :) . Galaxy force screamer looks like he would drop kick a baby and then breakdance on its corpse. His lips are so big and luscious because thats where he keeps all his malice.
Im not saying Micron Legend Starscream is an angel who has done no wrong but he sure seems like it when you compare him to Galaxy force starscream😭i might draw them interacting itd be funny

The acolyte is cancelled?!?
Excuse my french, but WTF. Honestly.
I suppose the whiny idiots on the internet won. Why can we not have nice things? Why can't you just let people enjoy a show?
It felt like Star Wars to me. And we rarely get any Sith shit at all and once we've got it...Boom its gone. Evil twin trope and seduction to the dark side (very literally)? Amazing. Wonderful fight scenes, compelling characters. I must say I was so invested in Sol and Osha's relationship, the twins, and Qimir and Osha's.
We were going to have Plagueis (maybe?)! And now he's gone. Osha's lightsaber turned crimson??? And we're simply left with THAT! No conclusion. NO NOTHING!
And the author, Headland, had a plan. A whole overarching storyline and now we're left with one season and more than a handful of unanswered questions.
This is why we can't have nice things. Because of those pesky whiny, loud fools on the internet. It disgusts me that they're cheering over the fact that its cancelled. If you don't want to watch it, don't. Let everyone else enjoy it who does want to watch it.
Don't shit on what other people like. Its disrespectful, its immature and its unbelievably uncool.
I'll admit it. I love everything Star Wars. Sequels and all. Flaws and all. The Acolyte had its flaws but even the Original Trilogy had its own. Example: Luke became attached to Obi-Wan within a day and become a Jedi within a few days. The end result: no one cares. But the second its a new show, everyone cares about every little mistake.
And I was rather excited to explore a world set in the High Republic. Now its gone. GONE GONE GONE! We've only seen it through books and through other media. I cannot tell you, I followed this show the second it was mentioned and announced. And the fact that its ending like this is so unbelievably frustrating.
Season 1 was for sure just a setup and I don't mind that but now that's its cancelled. Just...why. The children storyline was a bit annoying and there was for sure more to the story. Why did Torbin kill himself? There had to be more. There was so much guilt and I don't believe that's it. Something to be explored in Season 2 which will never happen.
One last thing. For the folks that like guys, we've lost Qimir. Right when Star Wars is beginning to consider people who like men, they pull it right out from under us. We had Leia in a bikini in the Originals which I could care less about. Plenty of Padme in the Prequels. A bit of Kylo Ren. And now, Qimir. The pinnacle of perfection, those arms were just...hot. I'll admit it.
And now because of the haters, there will be no more. No one hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans. I'm going to end this rant now before it gets far too long. All in all: I can't believe it.
I truly wish I could do anything. Something to bring it back.

A vaguely related movie take that I am right about screw the haters is that A New Hope is definitively better than The Empire Strikes Back. ESB lovers really focus on its "set pieces" and in particular the ending, which totally fair does slap. And everything in Dagobah is pretty great.
But when you step back from that the movie is a bit of a structureless void - it starts off barely acknowledging the events of the previous movie, with a cast that has no momentum fighting the same old enemy. Luke pretty much just gets fetch-quested to find Yoda out of the blue, the events of the Hoth Battle Sequence kind of like...don't matter, right? What is the Alliance trying to achieve in this movie? I know the answer is *survive* but our main characters have no plan around that, they just run off individually. Han & Leia spend the middle of the film fucking around in the belly of an asteroid worm, you might not even remember that. Its pure cheese.
It is obviously this way because the first film wasn't made with a sequel in mind, it didn't do the work of setting that up and so ESB flails around to find its footing. But that is just the reality, the trilogy was poorly planned out, and ESB suffers for it. Meanwhile ANH is immaculate in its pacing and structure, its distilled Hero's Journey. Like sure its not as "mature" as ESB in its themes, but A: I don't know true that really is, ESB is just "darker", I don't think that is the same thing. And B: that is more of a genre choice than a judgement, Back to the Future would not be improved by being more "serious" or whatever. ANH is a magic space adventure, and it does that job peerlessly. Its an S tier movie, and ESB just isn't.
