Call to Artists for KiScon Artshow submissions! Deadline- 15 September
The art show aims to showcase a wide variety of K/S fan art, trying to convey how rich in talent and creativity our fandom is.
To ensure that both in-person and online attendees can enjoy the show, it will be presented via a slideshow vid that will be accessible online throughout the convention weekend (and afterwards on our website). We will also show it on the big screen during the opening ceremony on Friday night.
The art show and the auction usually overlap, but you can sell artworks at the auction that are not featured in the art show and submit art to the art show that is not for sale. You do not need to be a registered attendee to submit art to the art show or to the auction!
You can submit both digital art and traditional art that feature Kirk or Spock or both (K/S or K&S) that you created (paintings, drawings/prints, but also three-dimensional artworks like sculptures, amigurumi, fibre craft, jewellery etc.); the latter needs to be either scanned or photographed. The show itself is purely digital and welcomes pieces from all K/S fans, not only registered con attendees.
If you would like to see for yourself what this art show will be like, please have a look at our 2022 or 2023 vid. We do not accept AI-generated art for the art show! Good-quality files in jpg or png format (300 dpi) are recommended, so that your work will look its best in the vid. Please include your exact artist name and the title of your works, plus any kind of information (e.g. medium, year of creation) that you would like us to mention. The artworks do not need to have been created for the convention, but can be as old or new as they come. You can only submit art to the art show that you have created yourself or for which you have express permission from the creator (e.g. a friend who’s not active in fandom anymore but gave you the permission to submit their artworks).
You can find the form and more information (If you do wish to include your art in the auction, for example) here on the website! https://kiscon.org/art.html or you can submit directly on the form.

2022: A milestone year in Indiana – and beyond
2022 was a milestone year for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter and – most importantly – for the fight against this disease. It included the Chapter’s first $1 million Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the most promising news yet in dementia research.
Take a look back at the year in advocacy, care and support, research, fundraising, and awareness.
FEBRUARY
Advocates from across Indiana urged state legislators to pass a bill requiring minimum dementia training standards for home health aides during the Virtual Indiana State Day of Action.
MARCH
The Alzheimer’s Association 2022 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report was released. It found significant shortages in the dementia care workforce, both nationwide and in Indiana. According to the report, there are currently 66 geriatricians in Indiana. By 2050, the state will need 299 geriatricians to serve 10% of those 65 and older – a 353% increase.
After passing the Indiana House and Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support, Governor Eric Holcomb signed the dementia training bill into law.
MAY
Volunteer advocates traveled to Washington D.C. for the first in-person Advocacy Forum since before the pandemic. They met with members of Congress and their staff to advocate for making Alzheimer’s a national priority. Evansville advocate Evan Haynes-Knepper was honored with the Young Advocate of the Year award.
JUNE
We concluded our fiscal year and found that in FY22, 5,256 people in our Chapter area attended an education program, support group, or early stage activity – a 37% increase over the previous year.
Staff and volunteers attended Indy Pride, sharing information on Alzheimer’s in the LGBTQ community and raising awareness of the resources available to help all those affected. The Greater Indiana Chapter also sponsored a Hydration Station.
West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis announced that he has been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. By sharing his diagnosis, he raised awareness of the disease and helped other families know they are not alone in this journey. Later in the year, he served as honorary chair of the Greater Lafayette Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Staff and volunteers attended the Indy Juneteenth Festival Wellness Fair at Celebration Plaza in White River State Park.
The Longest Day participants held fundraisers on and around the summer solstice. By the end of the campaign, Aug. 31, they raised more than $324,000. The top team was Spoke & Memories at more than $40,000.
JULY
The Greater Indiana Chapter once again partnered with the Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center to provide information and resources at the Indiana Black and Minority Health Fair.
A new event for The Longest Day, the Making Memories Classic pickleball tournament, was held in Greenwood. It was co-hosted by Greater Indiana Chapter board member Dr. David Mandlebaum and local pickleball pros Jade and Jackie Kawamoto. The event raised nearly $36,000.
The 2022 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) was held in San Diego. Greater Indiana Chapter executive director Natalie Sutton was in attendance and shared her reflections on the experience.
AUGUST
Indianapolis RivALZ players and coaches held their flag football game, raising more than $78,000.
SEPTEMBER
The 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s season began and continued for six weeks across 13 Greater Indiana Chapter communities. By the end of the season, 6,842 participants raised close to $2 million.
Positive topline results were announced from a Phase 3 global clinical trial of a treatment called lecanemab. The news brought additional energy and excitement to the remaining Walks.
To mark World Alzheimer’s Day, Sept. 21, the Chapter held a special Effective Communication Strategies for Future Healthcare Workers program. Students attended virtually from across the state.
Photos: Ted Fields/Indianapolis Airport Authority
The Indianapolis Airport Authority, sponsor of the Indianapolis Walk to End Alzheimer’s Promise Garden, unveiled a 10-foot tall spinning Promise Garden flower in the Civic Plaza area of the Indianapolis International Airport. The display was surrounded by information about the warning signs of the disease and the Alzheimer’s Association Helpline (800.272.3900), a free resource that is available nationwide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
OCTOBER
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s season wrapped up, and the Indianapolis Walk achieved a major milestone – raising more than $1 million for the first time ever.
NOVEMBER
The 2022 Chocolate Sunday brunch gala was held, raising nearly $400,000.
To mark National Family Caregivers Month, the chapter held a “Caring for the Caregiver” workshop with about 40 faith leaders in Fort Wayne. Reaching out to faith communities was identified as a top priority during a local community forum, and both parties have committed to continuing the partnership in the new year.
At the Clinical Trials on Alzheimer's Disease conference (CTAD), data from the Phase 3 global clinical trial of lecanemab confirmed this treatment changes the course of the disease in a meaningful way for people in the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The Alzheimer's Association has called for the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) accelerated approval of lecanemab and for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to revise its coverage policy with the utmost urgency. Read the full statement from the Alzheimer’s Association here.
There has never been a more exciting time in the fight against Alzheimer’s and all other dementias, and 2023 promises to be another monumental year. Stay tuned on the latest research news by downloading the Science Hub app and following the Greater Indiana Chapter on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Here’s to 2023!

Andrew McCarthy: Prepare for Trump to be sentenced to prison on September 18

Andrew McCarthy: Prepare for Trump to be sentenced to prison on September 18
To the surprise of no one, Judge Juan Merchan has yet again denied former President Trump’s motion that the judge recuse himself. I am speaking, of course, about the case in which Manhattan’s elected progressive Democratic District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, is prosecuting Trump. In early June, a jury found the former president and current GOP presidential nominee guilty on 34 counts of business-records falsification. It is not just that Judge Merchan had previously denied the recusal motion. The judge has signaled that, come hell or high water, he intends to sentence Trump on Sept. 18.If you’re keeping score, that would be two days after early voting in the 2024 election begins in Pennsylvania.NEW YORK V. TRUMP: MERCHAN DELAYS SENTENCING HEARING UNTIL SEPTEMBERThe Trump defense team has been trying to stave off sentencing. And the lawyers have what, in a normal case, would be real ammunition. On July 1, the U.S. Supreme Court held that presidents (including former presidents) are (a) presumptively immune from criminal prosecution for any official acts taken as president, and (b) absolutely immune if the official acts are core constitutional duties of the chief executive. The court instructed that this immunity extends not only to charges but to evidence. That means prosecutors are not just barred from alleging official presidential acts as crimes; they are further prohibited from even using such acts as proof offered to establish other crimes. There is no denying that Bragg’s prosecutors used some of Trump’s official acts to prove their case. Indeed, they called as witnesses two of Trump’s White House staffers.Unsurprisingly then, Trump’s lawyers moved post-trial to have the guilty verdicts thrown out based on the high court’s immunity ruling. Further, they again argued that Merchan should recuse himself. On that score, they claimed the lucrative political work Merchan’s daughter has done for Vice President Kamala Harris should be seen as more significant now that Harris has replaced President Biden as Trump’s Democratic opponent in the upcoming election.TRUMP’S APPEAL TO LIFT REMAINING PARTS OF NY GAG ORDER DENIEDOn Tuesday, Merchan denied the recusal motion. He had signaled his intention to do so in a letter to the parties last week. He also said he plans to rule on Trump’s immunity claim by Sept. 16. Most importantly, though, Merchan admonished the parties to prepare for the court to move ahead with the imposition of sentence on Sept. 18. He instructed the lawyers to submit promptly any arguments they intend to make on that subject. If we may read the tea leaves, Merchan has already decided that he will deny Trump’s immunity motion. There is, moreover, a high likelihood that he will impose a prison sentence against Trump right after that.TRUMP CAMPAIGN PICKS UP THE PACE, EYES COUNTER-PROGRAMMING DURING DEMOCRATS’ CONVENTIONBy the time he’d issued his letter last week, Merchan had had weeks to mull over the Supreme Court’s immunity decision and Team Trump’s subsequent brief arguing that the guilty verdicts should be tossed out. He told the parties to get ready for sentencing anyway. Obviously, if Merchan had any intention of vacating the verdicts, or of recusing himself, he would not have stuck to the sentencing date.I suspect that Merchan will rationalize that Trump (a) was not charged based on official presidential acts, and (b) would have been convicted even if Bragg’s prosecutors had not introduced arguably immunized evidence. Such a ruling might be wrong, especially on the latter point (at trial, prosecutors described some of the testimony from Trump staffers as “devastating”); but Merchan made so many outrageous rulings in the case that it would be foolish to expect him to change course now. CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONIn fact, my own view is that, even more than the Supreme Court’s immunity decision, another of its late-term rulings will bolster Trump’s eventual appeal — Erlinger v. United States. There, the court reaffirmed that in criminal cases, important proof elements affecting the potential sentence must be found unanimously by the jury. Merchan, to the contrary, denied Trump the right to a unanimous verdict on the supposed crime (conspiracy to influence the election by illegal conduct) that Bragg alleged Trump was trying to conceal by falsifying his business records. That crime is what turned a misdemeanor into a felony, and what allowed Bragg to get around the two-year misdemeanor statute of limitations. But this brings us to the main point. The New York prosecution of Trump was politics, not justice. That’s why we call it “lawfare.” The prosecutors and judge are not concerned about whether convictions ultimately get thrown out on appeal. And it’s not like Merchan is actually going to put Trump in prison; it is virtually certain that Trump will get bail pending appeal, so Merchan can appear to impose a stiff incarceration sentence without any real incarceration — at least for now, and probably ever. The objective here is to enable Vice President Harris and the media-Democratic complex to label Trump “a convicted felon sentenced to prison” just weeks before Election Day, at a time when Americans will already have started voting in many states, not least the potentially decisive Pennsylvania battleground.Prepare for Merchan to deny Trump’s immunity claim … and strap in for sentencing on Sept. 18.Editor’s note: This column has been corrected to reflect that Judge Merchan said he would rule on former President Trump’s immunity claim by Sept. 16, not Aug. 16.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM ANDREW McCARTHY

Everest Base Camp Trek in September
Trekking to the foot of the world’s tallest mountain is a dream adventure for many around the world. Especially in September, when the surroundings are the best they can get, the Everest Base Camp trek is the ultimate travel experience. During September, with the end of the monsoon, the skies clear up, making the view of even the distant mountains crystal clear. The pleasant weather along with the dry trails provide an enhanced trekking experience, making September the perfect time to do this trek.
The Everest Base Camp Trek takes you to the heart of Khumbu at Everest Base Camp. In September, the Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most sought-after treks in Nepal. The trip starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla Airport. From here, it leads on to Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche, all the way to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). A hike to the Kalapatthar viewpoint (5,545m) culminates in the EBC Trek.
Highlights of the Trek in September
The Everest Base Camp trek is one of the finest ways to explore the beauty of Nepal. As such, September brings out the best of this glorious adventure. Here are a few highlights of the Everest Base Camp Trek in September:
Clear skies to relish the mesmerizing views of the mountains
Walk along dry and pleasant trekking trails.
Experience the biodiversity of the Sagarmatha National Park.
Reach Everest Base Camp and the Kalapatthar viewpoint.
Everest Base Camp Weather in September
September signals the end of the monsoon; as a result, the chance of rainfall is at its lowest. The weather is stable this month, and the skies are clear. There will be no clouds to obstruct your view of the Himalayas. Furthermore, the trekking trails will be dry and easier to walk on as well. With a pleasant atmosphere, there is no better time to go on this trek than in September.
Everest Base Camp Temperature in September
Temperature is also a major reason to opt for the Everest Base Camp Trek in September. This month, the temperature is moderate. As you ascend to a higher altitude, the temperature gradually decreases. The average temperature during the daytime is around 14 degrees Celsius, and the average temperature at night is around -6 degrees Celsius. Keep in mind that you may experience cold mornings, which can bring about a temperature drop of around -10 degrees Celsius.
Accommodation and Food in September
During the trek, you will be stopping at various lodges and tea houses on your way. They provide dining, accommodation, and other services to the trekkers. It is important to note that since September is the main season for the trek, most of the teahouses and lodges may be fully booked. You may not find empty rooms during this season. In such cases, it is possible to share rooms with fellow travelers upon their agreement. So, you have been careful to pre-book or be ready to make necessary compromises as well.
Difficulties during the Everest Base Camp Trek in September
Trekking in the Himalayas is definitely a challenging task, and it is certain that one will encounter difficulties. Some major difficulties you may face are:
Altitude Sickness and physical fitness: Most of the trekking trails on the Everest Base Camp Trek lie above the 3000-meter altitude mark. As such, a trekker can easily become a victim of altitude sickness. So, you trekkers must maintain a steady pace and acclimatize in order to prevent falling prey to altitude sickness.
The EBC trek is a long journey that requires an individual to be physically fit. So, it is best to develop stamina 2-3 months before the trek. Cardiovascular and flexibility exercises are a way to begin your training routine.
Difficulty in finding a room: Since September is the peak month for trekking, you may not find vacant rooms in the lodges. One way to tackle this is to book your rooms early. Another option is to share rooms with other travelers.
Packing list for the September Everest Base Camp Trek
Since September is not the coldest of times to do the trek, trekkers can limit the number of warm clothes they bring. Here is a list of the essentials you have to pack for the EBC trek.
Light Sleeping Bag
Trekking boots (waterproof)
Trekking shirts
Trekking trousers
Jackets (Down and fleece)
Trekking Poles
First aid medical kit
Trek duffle bag
You can pack other items as per your preference. Check Everest Base Camp trek gear list for male and female here:
You can also complete Everest Base Camp trek in 9 days, which is helicopter return trip directly to Kathmandu from Gorakshep.

fragments of mid-September
The between-season. Summer days, autumn nights. The pumpkins orangeing on the vine.
Mercury Rx. All my old issues & patterns coming back again. Doing weekly tarot readings for myself; drawing my lifelong stalker card. Three of Swords. Heartbreak, sorrow, strife. Same as it ever was. I don’t think I’ve cried this much since 2016.
Last week I burned the inside of my wrist with a cigarette. Haven’t done anything like that in years. I felt stupid & weak. But it felt good. None of my healthy coping mechanisms are working.
(I’ve quit smoking but still had a few cigarettes in a pack. Lit one just to burn myself with it. It was a fucking clove cigarette. Christ.)
Once again mourning the friends I lost in the great Friend Exodus of 2014. Once again wondering why? I won’t ever really know, & at this point the why of it doesn’t matter. I’m just lonesome. I want someone to come over with a bottle of tequila and an acoustic guitar, & we could pass ‘em both back & forth, drink tequila & sing old folk songs. I want someone to have a Jim Jarmusch movie marathon with. I want to sit with someone all night in a diner, alternately talking art & philosophy & just sitting silently, writing or reading our own things. I want someone to go to a copy shop with me & make Xerox art.
I feel very old & very young.
I’ve cut back on alcohol & caffeine & other than my lapse into self-harm I’m trying not to be self-destructive but god.
I miss being able to justify putting whiskey in my coffee every morning.
I miss hopping trains.
I need to finish my goddamn zine & I’ve stalled out. I’ve stalled out on a lot of things.
I’m bored & restless & uninspired.
Scratch that last one. I have hundreds of ideas but when I sit down to work on any of them it’s a struggle to get anything out.
At least writing-wise. Visual art is coming easier these days.
The kids are bored & restless, too. That makes them cranky, & then they act up, & I snap at them, & then feel worse about myself.
& they are relentless, always interrupting me. So even when I do start writing, I can’t get into a good flow.
I feel like I’m failing them and myself.
Then there’s all the car trouble & financial worries & all the stress from that.
I’m tired all the time but can’t sleep. At least not without ASMR & antihistamines, or BDSM & bourbon.
When I do sleep, I have fucked up dreams.
P.’s familiar issues are popping up again, too. Namely how he reads things I’ve written & think he knows who they’re about & when they occurred. I’ve tried to explain that the ‘you’ in many of my love poems isn’t one specific person, it’s a hybrid of various people. That the stories in much of my prose are a combination of fact & fiction, or that I write about stuff that happened years ago as though it were recent.
We’re having a yard sale a couple weeks from now, so I’m going through my things to figure out what I can sell. It’s hard for me to get rid of stuff. After all those years of having stuff stolen by vindictive roommates, having to sell stuff to pay the bills, having stuff damaged in flooded basements... I don’t like to let go of anything.
I’m trying to find a way through all this.
Trying to be gentle with myself, but not too gentle.
Gentle like: not beating myself up (emotionally) for crying a lot, or for snapping at my kids sometimes, or for that clove-cigarette burn.
But also tough enough to say: stop moping. Get over yourself & do something rad, or I’ll kick your ass.
Trying to be gentle with the kids. Letting them know every day that I love them, even when I yell; letting them know that I don’t always love their behavior but I always love them.
People have been really generous since I posted about the car/money stuff on my main blog, & I am so so beyond grateful.
After I write this, I’ll be finishing up my triptych for the zodiac-themed art show and submitting it.
I will finish my zine before MWPZF. I work on it every day, even if only in brief snatches.
I’m mapping out other writing projects. I have copious poem-notes. An idea for a short film; another one for a short story. Last fall I got an idea for a horror novel and have made a lot of notes about it since; I’m going to work on that during NaNoWriMo this year.
A week from today, I’m taking a one-hour online divinatory poetics course, with special guest CAConrad.
I’m planning out what to play on my next podcast.
I got a stick & poke tattoo kit so I can level up my stick & poke tattoo game. So far I’m just sketching out ideas; next I’ll practice on the fake skin. My first one will be a ghost. Followed by an oak leaf & a chicory flower. Then I’m going to fix/finish that compass rose moon I started all those years ago.
I’m letting myself be the mystical lovesick romantic dork I really am; letting myself romanticize everything, again.
Like the beautiful women I saw downtown last week—the tattooed mom & the butch dyke in overalls.
Like Thursday, turning the walk to the park with the kiddos into an epic fantasy adventure. The park was a strange & distant land. We had to walk because ‘our chariot had broken down.’ The neighborhood crows were messengers; the things people had carved into or written on the park benches were markings in many languages, left by fellow travelers through this strange land. & of course those walking sticks/wizard staffs we found.
Like the fact that I have apparently decided to become an amateur woodworker, at least for this one wizard staff. I spent hours after we got home on Thursday afternoon removing bark (it was weirdly therapeutic), and I’m planning on removing the rest of the bark over the course of this week, then painting it & otherwise decorating it.
Like sitting out back with P. late Thursday night, & seeing a huge blue-green fireball arc itself through the sky & down somewhere northwest of here.
Like Friday night, how we couldn’t make it to the bonfire & night hike at the Eco-Justice Center, so we had a fire in our backyard fire pit, then took a night walk around our neighborhood. The streetlights through the trees made leaf shadows on the houses; the front yard lights made diamond shadows on the sidewalk.
Yes, I’ll make it through. Now I’m just waiting for October. Cross my fingers, cross my heart, & hope to die.

DIABOLIK LOVERS 5th Anniversary Book - Mukami Yuma [Short Story + Do-S Collection]
SPENDING 12 MONTHS WITH VAMPIRES ー YUMA ・ SEPTEMBER
The fallen leaves I’ve gathered together with a broom, pile up high like a mountain. In my eyes, these bad boys which will later be used to fertilize the fields look no different than a pile of treasures.
“Oi! Are you done with your cleanin’?”
When I turned around to call for her, as if on cue, she approached carrying a bag filled to the brim with leaves.
“Hmm, pretty good job for someone like you.”
As I ruffled her hair with my ungloved hand, she chuckled happily despite her painful protests.
Before I knew it, we were bathing in the orange light of the sunset. When I squint my eyes at the brightness, the woman next to me sneezes quietly.
“S-Sorry...”
I hold the apologizing’s woman’s hands in my own. The locked temperature is much lower than I expected, as I feel somewhat frustrated by my Vampire self for being unable to share my warmth.
“Your hand’s warm, Yuma-kun.”
However, those feelings of concern melt away at her words.
No way they’re warm ーー I nearly find myself responding to her with those words, but tightly press my lips together. A few moments pass, before I open my mouth and speak confidently:
“...Thanks.”
Despite averting my gaze, I voiced it out loud. While I couldn’t see the look on her face, instead her grip on my hand got stronger.
“You’ve already fallen low and become my Sow, ya know? You admitted it yourself, didn’t ya? ”
ーー ( DIABOLIK LOVERS More, Blood Vol. 5 )
“I’ve been denied it as of late after all...When I look at that face of yours, I just can’t help but...Crave it... ”
ーー ( DIABOLIK LOVERS Dark Fate Vol. 3 )
“Come closer. Ya actually don’t dislike this either, do you?”
ーー ( DIABOLIK LOVERS Dark Fate Vol. 3 )
“I definitely won’t let ya leave me or anythin’ by this point... ”
ーー ( DIABOLIK LOVERS Bloody Bouquet Vol. 8 )
“Twist and turn your body more...Try enticin’ me by squirming ‘round. Come on...Where do you want it next?”
ーー ( DIABOLIK LOVERS More, Blood Vol. 5 )
