Hajime and Izuru being separate people and both liking Makoto is so choice.
Like, maybe Hope's Peak just used samples of Hajime's cells to make Izuru, separately from Hajime. Hajime doesn't know what they did with those samples until a guy who looks almost exactly like him shows up on campus one day, apparently talented in every way.
Hajime is mad, and lowkey devastated, that the program he signed up for that was supposed to give him a talent just made another version of him to be talented.
Makoto finds out about the Kamukura Project and the fact that Hajime signed up for something like that, and they have to deal with that. What do you mean you signed up to let them experiment on you? You mean they could have actually turned you into that guy? Hajime, genuinely, are you okay? They need to talk. Hajime needs to open up.
Maybe, for drama, Izuru has all of Hajime's memories in addition to all his own talents. It genuinely seems like he's just Better Hajime, to anyone who values talent over humanity. Hajime has to deal so directly with his beliefs about his own value. He has to look at this guy who is almost literally him-but-with-talent, and he has to be able to say "I still deserve to exist as I am."
Also, obligatory "Izuru cuts his hair and tries to take Hajime's place".

“Slowly he wrapped his arms around her shoulders, a hand cradling her head to his collarbone. Chiaki wrapped her arms around his waist as she leaned in. Izuru could distinctly feel her relaxing, making him do the same. It had been more than a few months since they started being this close, but somehow, Izuru still couldn’t get himself used to how nice it felt to have her presence and warmth right next to him.”

explain the shut in au to someone who’s never heard of the game (i beg)
Oh boy you don’t even have to beg
So, the game Shut In is about a guy trying to get ready to go Outside but. His house is. Rather dangerous and strange.
Sleep in bed too long, get crushed by a shelf. Go to the basement and you risk being boiled alive by streams of steam. The staircase has been ripped up and huh how did that happen? Ig it can’t be a big jump- wrong you’re dead.
The creator of the game says it is based off their own experience with agoraphobia and things. It’s a beautiful game, though very very dark. If you are alright with such topics I highly recommend checking it out. Personally I watched Markiplier’s playthrough of it. It’s like an hour and a half or something.
Now. What made my friend @/justsomedumbstuff recommend it to me was how the Narrarator could totally be Nagito’s inner monologue. It’s so casual, self loathing, and grim. Some examples:
(If you jump down the stairs assuming the jump can’t be too far) “There’s certainly a ground floor somewhere, though. Your mangled corpse is smeared all over it. By the way, that wasn’t a very impressive jump. Lets just pretend you slipped, shall we?”
(If you pull the plug on a rather sketchy outlet) “For a split second, you feel the searing heat of over 200 volts of electricity coursing through your body. Luckily, before your head can process the pain your heart stops completely. You’re dead in seconds. You don’t even have time to reflect on your poor decision making capabilities. Which part of you thought that was a sensible idea?”
And every single death ends in “But don’t worry. Try again tomorrow.”
So uh. Yeah. Very Nagito. It got me thinking.
What if, instead of death, the Future Foundation wished to punish the Remnants of Despair further? Well. Most of them have already been killed or jailed, but they only need one or two in order to make an example of them to the world. Show everyone what happens if you stick by despair’s side.
Despair so terrible not even Ultimate Despair can withstand it.
So they place Nagito Komaeda and Izuru Kamukura in two separate simulations where time is slower, and life is torture.
Nagito’s torture is essentially the game. He wakes up in his childhood home and. Quickly learns how dangerous it is. The first day, he succumbs to the bugs in the shower. He sees them falling out of the shower head but oh no, where is the door handle to the bathroom? He’s stuck. Oh no no no no.
And he dies. It’s horrible. He remembers every detail of his death. But then he wakes up in bed again. Huh weird dream yeah and then it happens again and he knows something is Wrong.
And he has to live like this for months. In a house where one wrong step and he’s bleeding out on the floor for hours in agony before he dies. And sure, he isn’t super afraid of death at first, but after dying again and again and again and again and again and again it takes its toll.
He doesn’t wanna be blinded on the floor by a broken lightbulb again, unable to do anything but bleed out until he falls unconscious. He doesn’t want to tip over the boiling pot again, burning himself so badly that he can’t even move.
He grows paranoid. He doesn’t want to move but he’ll die if he stays in bed. He’s so hungry but going to get food means he has to climb down to the first floor and ohh it’s so uncomfortable. The walls covered in drawings and markings… and then when he gets into the kitchen. Oh it’s awful. The smell of gas. The monsters trying to get him. The darkness. He doesn’t want it but. He needs to eat.
Over and over and over again. It’s hell.
And Izuru. Izuru is stuck in that room he was kept in for so long. It’s the same routine every day. Same meals. Same time. There is nothing to do. Nothing to stimulate his mind. Just months of Nothing. He can pace but for how long will that be less boring? He can starve himself but he just. Wakes up again in bed if he dies. There is nothing he can do. He can’t escape. He cannot do anything.
He is so under-stimulated and it is driving him crazy
But thankfully, resident cutie patootie of the Future foundation, Makoto Naegi, has mercy on them and breaks them out of the simulation, realizing they’re. Not gonna be actively searching for and spreading despair anymore.
And. The state they’re in is just… depressing. He can’t let them live like this.

So you ask, and so I shall answer!! (Literally tysm because MM Mikan is one of my fav parts of this AU)
One of my major gripes with Mikan in SDR2 was that, for all the game's intention with her and her breakdown about being done putting up with people's hypocrisy, there's never really a point in which she gets to grow from it. There's no agency in her story at any point, which is something I feel she could have and should have had to make her story as an imperfect victim that much more impactful. Even when she is lashing out, she's doing so because some other abuser is telling her to, and she doesn't get to be explored beyond being the sexy victim that's just a little fucked up (in a sexy way ofc). She just is there, then she's there but mad, then she's there in the prequel, then we jump cut to get being perfectly fine and redeemed and acting the exact same way she did before Junko, implying that there was no need for her to stand up for herself because Hiyoko treats her the exact same and Mikan takes it the exact same way. Every important part of her arc is offscreen, and I felt like that was a waste
MM Mikan is basically her swan diving off the deep end. She enters a school full of people who are supposed to be society's best only to once again be faced with bullying and indifference. Once again, she is only seen when she is useful. Once again, she is only seen when she is mocked. Once again, she is at the mercy of the attention spans of those around her, and so she snaps. One day, after treating Makoto for another klutzy moment of poor luck, they find common ground on being generally clumsy. Makoto, in all his general positivity, actually sits with her and listens to her. He's nice to her. And it's genuine; Makoto isn't a pure evil, nor is he trying to burn everything surrounding him. He just wants to keep living. He perseveres. So he and Mikan end up working together and create anarchy, where only those who persevere can survive
Mikan drags her classmates into anarchy with a brainwashing technique they stole in the hopes that they'd finally join her and be equals, only for them to resent her with what will they have left. So when Chihiro creates the Neo World program, she comes out of hiding and helps the FF find her classmates one by one, with the help of Izuru Kamakura ofc (but he's his own post). They then use the Mono-bug to twist the program into a killing game that they'll all participate in together. It reverts all of them back to the day they first met, and Mikan hopes that all of them meeting for the first time for the second time will give them a blank slate, and that going through the kg will make them bond. That after everything she's done, she just wants to be forgiven, but can't fathom forgiveness, so she must erase what happened and put them all on the same level
MM Mikan gets a redemption free with purchase, which would start at the end of SDR2 and would come full circle within DR3. When the rest of the class remembers everything, they remember not only the horrible things they were made to do, but the things they chose to do. No one from SDR2 is truly innocent (except for traitor!Nekomaru. Again, a separate post for later) and even if none of them were actively bullying Mikan like say, Hiyoko was, all of them let it happen. So in that final trial, they don't just forgive themselves; for the second time in her life, Mikan is extended a hand. For the first time, it doesn't come with conditions. And within the time spent with the SDR2 survivors in DR3, she'd struggle to reaffiliate herself to the cast and vice versa, as well as use her medical knowledge to try and repair or at least rehabilitate the damages she'd some to people
@popatochsp tag since you were the one to ask lol

It's time... PONEY Time.... Anyway i'm making a DR/MLP au! I love both concepts and I think they'd go well together- have ideas for a story, but right now i'm brainstorming designs! I wanted them to have elements I liked from both g4 and 95, like the colored wings and fretlocks on the hoovsies…... Here's Hard Luck (Nagito) and Sunflowers/Midnight Sun (Hajime/Izuru!)
Hard Luck is a lanky and sickly pegasus who's unfortunate special talent is a double edged sword, making him morose and pessimistic, but he's come to the school of friendship to hopefully remedy that ! Sunflowers has an interesting struggle- he has no idea what his talent is supposed to be, despite having a cutie mark. He hopes that he can learn a thing or two in ponyville, but fate has other plans for him....
(thiscatdraws' mlp au and mine might have similar designs due to creative overlap in the past, but our works are separate. Please respect that!)

what are you thoughts on izuru and are you gonna include him in the bus au?
as a "character" he's just boring. i realized i only care when i think of him as a tragic facet of hajime instead of some entirely separate guy. like.."he" won't show up because hajime is here as himself and he's trying to heal from that

Hihi!! About ur au^^
So, does this AU take place during like medieval times?Or is it taking place in a modern era, cuz I looked at Akane & Nekomaru's outfits and they looked more modern, also! is it just a fantasy world where different creatures(?) all just live with each other, cuz I looked at ur post explaining what everyone was and that's what I thought when I was reading it, if not what would it be then?would it b like, they're hiding from the humans? But then I read that Hajime was a human, so I have another question, how did Hajime come across all of them?, and btw is Junko & Monokuma gonna be in this, or are they just not there?? I have so many questions about this AU!!! Anyway, sorry about this jumbled mess of an ask-
WOW WOW WOW ok so
As for the time this takes place, I don’t have a clear answer yet LOL. I know it’s a little more on the modern side. Some of the creatures just like to dress how they always have. Like Sonia or izuru. And nagito of course but he can’t really fix that .
Akane and Nekomaru’s clothes are more modern on purpose tho! Cause I knew I wanted the group to be VERY mixed. Some of these fellas are OLD.
I really do want to make it where they all live together (FOUND FAMILY FTW!!!) in that big castle nagito was found in and where izuru currently resides, but it’s still being thought out.
I also have NO CLUE how hajime fits into all this but by golly I will make him fit into it. They do tend to stay away from humans. In this I feel humans and creatures would be separated. The creatures residing more in the woods and such, old towns, stuff like that. The humans in this au are very wary of all creatures because their history. I will figure out how hajime comes into play with all of this…. I swear.
Junko definitely makes an appearance or two,,, maybe. She. Plays a role is all I know. She may or may not be the goddess I was mentioning a few posts ago.
A lot of the little things are not really thought out yet,, I haven’t really made something like this before hehe
TYSM FOR ASKING ALL THIS I LOVE TALKING ABOUT IT!!!!!

If my online friends find this blog without me telling them. I will cry (I say as I send this blog to all of them)
Anyway. I've been cooking up a little thing (partially based off of a roleplay). An au where Izuru and Hajime are separate people. The fun part is that Izuru still used to be a reserve course student, just a different one (that's basically an oc) who used to be friends with Hajime.
Izuru's past self was Masami Ishihara. They were nonbinary, sexuality is still undecided. They had dark hair that almost reached their shoulders, tan skin with freckles, and green and brown eyes in the form of sectoral heterochromia. They were a bit quieter than most people, but were lots of fun when they opened up. They had some darker humor and played occasional sneaky pranks, but nothing horrendous like making fun of tragedies. They also did a lot of arts and crafts, like bracelets, origami, pop-up art, and so on. They were rather artistic in general and could be seen making drawings in their notebooks, but they mostly stuck to crafts. However, Masami lacked patience. They were easily irritated, quickly becoming passive-aggressive. But usually, they can keep most of their anger contained and just make some rude or backhanded comments.
What they struggled with most was their self-esteem. Their parents were cruel. They wanted a golden child who did everything they said exactly as they said it with outstanding grades and achievements. But unfortunately, Masami never lived up to it. They were average, mundane, and normal. They weren't special, they weren't great, they were just a person. They were pushed to enter the reserve course program and attended the school under the impression that just being there would somehow make them better.
But it didn't. Not yet, anyway.
Sometime into the school year, the Steering Committee took note of Masami and Hajime's shared self hatred due to outside pressures. They were both offered to join the Izuru Kamukura/Hope Cultivation Project. They considered it for a while, but Masami was the one who agreed to it. They didn't know what to expect, but they were desperate to actually be worth something. Anything.
Out came Izuru Kamukura, known as a talented "enigma" that shouldn't be able to exist. Supposedly, they were born with all the talent in the world, blessed by the universe to be extraordinary. No matter what task they were given, they could complete it with ease.
People tried again and again to test their abilities, to see what they're capable of, but Izuru always denied it. They only followed orders from their teachers, and frankly, they didn't feel like being used by even more people.
On the other side of things, it seemed like Masami just disappeared off of the face of the earth, and no one cared. No one except the nobody known as Hajime Hinata. He's been putting up posters and searching everywhere for Masami, but to no avail. He's not going to give up, not anytime soon, but he's losing hope as the months go by.
That is, until he comes face to face with Izuru. It felt like deja vu, looking at something familiar but being unable to recognize why. They spoke briefly, and that feeling only got worse for Hajime. Izuru had similar speech patterns to Masami, but now they felt hollow, devoid of true meaning and purpose. Hajime couldn't piece together why they felt so familiar until later that night.
He couldn't sleep. The interaction was rattling in his brain like an animal in a cage. Then, he looked at a photo of Masami, and it clicked. That person... it was Masami. But how? Why? What happened to them? How come they couldn't recognize each other? There were so many questions, but so few answers.
He decided to reach out the next day, going towards the main course building when school let out. As soon as he saw Izuru, he rushed forward and confronted him. But... they didn't know what he was talking about. They had no idea who Masami was, but when looking at a picture of them... Izuru made the connection of well. That was them. Or at least, who they used to be.
That's all I've got so far, sorry. I want to write a fanfic about it, but I get bored very fast when there isn't constant action going on in my writing. If someone else wants to, please ask first, and keep me updated! I'd love to see what people do with this idea, so long as I'm given credit. Go through their friendship with Hajime, the programming trauma they went through after the lobotomy, the rediscovery of who they are, and beyond that! :)
Here's a drawing I made of them!

UTDP/Summer Camp: Hajime Hinata
in-game info from v3's UTDP Mode and Danganronpa S: Summer Camp AU, for fanart/fanfic inspiration etc. note that this is a "nice" universe where v3 goes to Hope's Peak and Junko never Junko'd.
this post details Hajime Hinata's scenes with others, as well as insights about him that these bits provide. there's a Lot, so jump on down under the cut.
(i hope to do all characters over time, so Hang Tight for your fave!)
> more UTDP/Summer Camp character databases <
CANON NOTE: Izuru Kamukura still exists. I will cover him in a separate post, as he's treated like a separate character. Strangely, though, from text alone, we can't confirm Hajime's relation to Izuru in the UTDP/Summer Camp AU. Considering Hajime and Izuru have similar scenes with different outcomes (much like Junko and Mukuro), it could be that they never exist at the same time (that is, we actually have two timelines going in this AU). It's up to your interpretation.
HAJIME INSIGHTS:
Hajime is still in the Reserve Course here (UTDP, w/ Aoi Asahina) + (UTDP, w/ Ryoma Hoshi) + (many others)
Was invited to the Summer Camp VR trip, though it's never explicitly stated why [just because of his "connections"] (Summer Camp, Prologue) + (Summer Camp, Taka's Campfire 3)
"I can't just stay a kid forever. Examining yourself and the reality you live in...That's how one moves ahead." (Summer Camp, Monokuma & Hajime)
"I'm cool with animals. A pet would be a bit too much for me, though." (Summer Camp, Ryoma & Hajime & Nagito)
Impressed by the Summer Camp VR world, and it piques his interest in things he never considered before (Summer Camp, Leon & Hajime & Chihiro)
"I'm just used to all the trash talk about being in the reserve course by now." (Summer Camp, Potential of Talent 3)
Makes balloon art for the Summer Festival, though with practice he can only make a dog and a flower (Summer Camp, Summer Festival events)
[Monomi:] "Hehehe...Hajime, you've become a full-fledged member of the class." (Summer Camp, With Swimsuits)
Reads a lot during the events of Summer Camp: "I feel a need to expand my horizons. I'm surrounded by specialists..." (Summer Camp, My Future)
HAJIME & OTHERS:
In this universe, Hajime still hangs out with class 77 a lot [notably Kazuichi, Gundham, and Chiaki] outside of school (UTDP, w/ Aoi Asahina)
Discusses talent with Ryoma, and Ryoma tells him: "You can choose any path you want, but be sure to think carefully about where it will lead." (UTDP, w/ Hajime Hinata)
In another discussion, Hajime tells Ryoma to treasure the days he has with his friends, even if he has to go back to prison after he graduates (UTDP, Ryoma's Winter 2)
Nagito finds Hajime mysterious, especially how he's drawn to main course students. Hajime doesn't understand him in return (UTDP, w/ Nagito Komaeda)
In fact, Nagito seems to hope Hajime will see his point of view about being a "stepping stone" for other students. Hajime does not (UTDP, Nagito's Sports Festival 3)
But Hajime does force Nagito to be his friend (UTDP, Nagito's Winter 1)
And to be a normal human being to the rest of his class (Summer Camp, Campfire 3)
Talks to the other male protagonists about giving [and receiving] presents (UTDP, w/ Makoto Naegi and Shuichi Saihara)
Feels that others rely on Chiaki because she's helpful. Chiaki feels the same right back to Hajime, noting he's helped many in 77 come out of their shell (UTDP, w/ Chiaki Nanami)
Often asked to join in on main course activities (UTDP, Sports Festival events)
Kazuichi considers Hajime a "soul friend" [though full disclosure, this may have been to convince Hajime to invite Sonia to his birthday party] (UTDP, Winter 2)
Asks Sayaka if she'd still be an idol regardless of Ultimate status, and her answer is yes (UTDP, Winter 3)
A little unimpressed with Keebo, but realizes that sometimes being an Ultimate is "who you are, not what you do" (UTDP, Keebo's School Festival 1)
Gets advice from Gonta about having fun in the future, rather than worrying about talent or even passion. Then they bond over bugs and it's cute (Summer Camp, Gonta & Hajime)
Monokuma tries to "bond" with Hajime over their "outsider" status. It does not work (Summer Camp, Monokuma & Hajime)
Monokuma also tries to make Hajime upset about being in the Reserve Course. It does not work (Summer Camp, Potential of Talent 3)
Hiyoko asks Hajime for help picking out souvenirs for her father. Hajime is not helpful (Summer Camp, Hajime & Hiyoko)
Doesn't know what Monokuma and the other Kumas are, but neither does anyone else, really (Summer Camp, Leon & Hajime & Chihiro)
Prevents Mahiru from accidentally getting an embarrassing shot of Mikan falling [probably coochie out] (Summer Camp, Hajime & Mahiru & Mikan)
Encourages Mondo in his endeavors to become a carpenter (Summer Camp, Potential of Talent 1)
Considers helping Taka reform Hope's Peak (Summer Camp, Taka's Potential of Talent 2)
BONUS ECHO FROM ANOTHER LIFE: (UTDP, Winter 1)

Finally someone asks about my special interest
So for starters, I definitely think it's noteworthy that Izuru is the chill one out of the two. I don't speak Japanese, but according to the Wiki, Hajime uses a much more aggressive way of referring to himself whereas Izuru uses the more polite way. Hajime is actively very vocal about it when he's unhappy and complains when he's dragged into things, while Izuru basically does whatever anyone asks and is much less harsh when expressing distaste (I'm pretty sure in the Ultimate Talent Development Plan he literally just runs away from one situation)
I actually think it's kind of funny that the fandom and even the games themselves sort of have their personalities backwards, with Izuru as this evil person and Hajime just being a stressed out teddy bear. If anything Hajime is the Bad Boy™ who gets into fights and has a bunch of scary friends and tattoos and Izuru is the depressed nerd in the corner who just wants to go home and get to bed at a reasonable hour.
Hajime is a lot more morally grey than people like to acknowledge and his level of doneness with everyone's bullshit extends past the portrayal of him as sassy and tired. He literally tried to fistfight the Ultimate Boxer because he pissed him off. He goes up to Sato, fully suspecting her of killing an actual high-profile member of the Yakuza, and starts interrogating her. He leaves Nagito to starve because he upsets him. The man has zero chill about anything. He's also way more perceptive than most of the cast, to the point of realizing that they were being watched (from outside the simulation, although he didn't know it) in the very first chapter and immediately knowing something was off about the entire "field trip" situation.
Izuru on the other hand only really actively attacks anyone if they're about to hurt him. While he's been taught to view talentless people as subhuman, he also views himself (the most talented person on the planet) this way as opposed to seeing himself as better than everyone. This suggests to me that some of Hajime's self-esteem issues carried over to Izuru's personality. It is also shown several times that he does in fact feel emotions—boredom, anger, surprise, annoyance, and confusion—he just doesn't seem to feel positive ones that often which could be the result of tampering with the frontal lobe of his brain. If he had been given some stimulation outside of a dark room with nothing in it and antidepressants, he might have been completely fine. But nooooo, Hope's Peak couldn't be bothered to actually take care of the super-human they created.
When they eventually merge, and venturing a bit into headcanon territory, I think they'd function like someone with DID. The Neo World Program was made to basically be like hyper-intensive therapy and to undo brainwashing, but it likely wouldn't have been able to undo the physical damage and alterations to their brain. I also think the anime (I know I know shhhhh) makes a good case for this, because there are moments where you can hear a shift in the way they speak that suggests someone else has taken over the conversation. We know that at least some remnant of Hajime remained while Izuru was in control, so I think that the Izuru personality was the result of the intense trauma from the medical procedures causing Hajime's personality to fracture into someone who could bear it all without feeling anything, rather than a personality Hope's Peak actively went out of their way to create, and the Hajime personality just got tucked away from everything until Junko caught him up, which is why Izuru appears briefly trying to dissuade him.
I don't remember if I ever outright stated it, but if y'all ever want me to talk about something, definitely feel free to ask. I adore answering questions and rambling, so even if I have no idea what you're talking about I'll probably look into it.

My Danganronpa AU Masterlist
Because I realized I need some organization on my blog, lol.
First, my actual fanfiction is mostly on AO3; these will be just Tumblr stuff. Feel free to send an ask about any of these!
AU's are listed in alphabetical order, and the bullet points for each AU are in the order I think would be most coherent for anyone unfamiliar with the AU. I had to limit the amount of posts I included as bullet points, because this post really tested the hyperlink limit at first, lol. In the future, I might make separate masterlists for some of the longer, more detailed AU's in this post, so I can just link the masterlists here. That'll give me room for more links, lol.
Also, check out my Danganronpa analysis tag for posts I've made or reblogged that I just think are interesting from a meta perspective.
If you enjoy something I've posted, please leave a reply/comment. It encourages me to write more.

Today I bring you a major ship tier list of mine! This is just my personal opinions. Also it's long as hell so I'll put it under the cut.
Tumblr media
Tumblr probably made the quality shit but shhhhh
"Could work in an AU" is just ships that I have very complicated feelings about. But you can sort of sum those feelings up into "it's funnier when they hate each other."
"Not my cup of tea in any way" is more just stuff I've never thought about platonicly or romanticly like... ever?
NOTP are ships that I just don't like seeing. All the power to ya if you ship these (even Despaircest, ya weirdos) but they make me uncomfy.
I do like AU's where Hajime and Izuru are separate people and brothers. Those are fun.
Also made an extra tier list with some extra ships!
Tumblr media
This doesn't cover all of the side media but whatever. And idk if there are polls that also include poly ships and crossover ships let me know.

Lighthouse au!!! Let’s gooooo!!!
Man oh man do I love this au. It’s so much fun. Don’t you all agree?
Also, there’s fanart for the last SCP I did. Here it is!
Hajime sometimes had a really hard time believing that the people he worked for were intelligent. Why? Because they had such reckless ideas and orders that they expected to be carried out. In spite of previous experiences suggesting that it wasn’t a smart idea.
Such as the instructions he had just been given.
“Hinata. You are to bring Izuru Kamukura down to Lab 15. He is to undergo a physical exam in front of us. You will assist by staying in the room with him as damage control. Understand?”
Outside, he simply nodded and replied, “Yes, sir.” But internally, he chastised them for their poor decision making skills. Had they not learned to not test the limits of what the Ultimate Hope could accomplish? Fools, all of them.
Nevertheless, he left the office to do as asked. He entered the elevator and ascended to Izuru’s floor. And he swiftly swiped his card and went in.
Izuru was actually asleep when he walked in. And Hajime really did not want to wake him. But past times had made it clear that the doctors didn’t care what state he was in when they requested him. He was to appear in front of them, and refusal to do so was not an option.
So with a heavy heart, he carefully approached the sleeping experiment. “Sir? We need to go down for something. So you will have to get up.”
Izuru’s eyes slowly opened, clearly not happy with having been disturbed. “The timing of this is… inconvenient, to say the least.”
Hajime gave him a sad smile. “I know. I don’t like it either. And I apologize for disturbing you. I strongly wish that I didn’t have to.”
“You have nothing to apologize for. But if you are so insistent on repenting, then you may carry me down while I’m still waking up.”
The brunette’s cheeks flushed. “Uh… y-yeah. I can carry you. How… do you want me to…”
But Izuru didn’t answer, only smirked. It seemed to send a message. One that made him blush even harder. “If… you want it, sir, then okay.”
He approached the bed, trying to calm his heart again. Once he was close enough, he slid his arms under the other man’s thin legs and around his waist. He lifted him up and off the bed with practically no effort. And Izuru wound his own arms around the caretaker’s neck, sighing contently. “Now take me to the lab. But take your time. I’m still waking up.”
Hajime could only nod. He had carried Izuru bridal style before, but not usually for very long. This would be the longest he would carry the experiment in this way.
But he would do his job and he would do it well. So he began walking out of the room. He made sure to keep Izuru’s long hair off the ground, not wanting to dirty it.
Something the experiment definitely noticed as they entered the elevator. “So considerate. So aware. So… faithful,” he whispered into Hajime’s ear, sending all sorts of shivers down his spine.
“I’m… glad you think so, sir,” he replied, managing to keep the stutter out of his voice. But that’s all he said, keeping quiet to let Izuru have some time to focus on the elevator ride down. He did love them a lot.
Sadly, it could not last forever. The elevator arrived at the fourth floor. Their destination.
Izuru turned his head to stare straight ahead, observing their journey. Hajime tightened his grip on the man’s body and stepped out. He knew where he was going. He knew where all the labs on this floor were located. He found the door to the lab already open, so he didn’t have to put Izuru down. Something he was thankful for.
But he did have to do so moments later as they reached the center of the room. There were all sorts of objects on a table in the room. What they were for, Hajime was sure they would find out soon.
Their focus was mainly on the large pane of glass that separated the lab they were in from an observation room next to it. Hajime knew that the glass was supposed to be bulletproof and extra thick. But he was not sure that would be enough if they ticked off the Ultimate Hope. But he guessed they would see what happened.
The speaker up on the ceiling crackled to life, the voice of a doctor coming through. “Hinata, you are to stay in the room with Izuru Kamukura. Shut the door and stand by it. Kamukura, you are going to perform all the instructions given to you.”
Hajime didn’t want to put him down. His greatest desire in this moment was to walk out with him in his arms and never return. But sadly, it was not feasible. The white haired man was still slightly sedated and Hajime was no superhuman. So he set him down on his feet in the center of the lab before backing away.
The speaker spoke again. “Kamukura. Demonstrate how much you can carry. Start by picking up the smallest weight on the floor under the table.”
Izuru stood there, smiling vacantly. He made no move to follow the instructions.
“Kamukura. Pick up the five pound weight. Now.”
Nothing. Izuru remained still where he was, staring right into the eyes of the one speaking.
“Obey your creators!” the doctor shouted, sounding both annoyed and on edge.
But still, Izuru didn’t move.
That’s about when Hajime decided to intervene. “Sir? Do you wish for me to retrieve the weights for you?”
Izuru turned to look at him, expression now a hint softer. He nodded, so Hajime walked up to him and handed him the smallest weight. He held it with no difficulty.
Hajime stepped back again, leaving Izuru with the small weight in his hand.
“Now that you have seen what needs to be done, pick up the ten pound weight,” the doctor commanded.
But Izuru again refused to move. He just kept staring in Hajime’s direction.
The caretaker chanced a look over to the window, seeing the veins practically popping out of the doctors’ heads. This was clearly getting on their nerves. And he wouldn’t deny it was amusing to see.
But alas, it wasn’t possible to continue for very long. Hajime was sure that if he kept it up, he would have more restrictions placed on him. Something Hajime wouldn’t allow. So he approached again. “Here, sir. Let me get you the next weight.”
He exchanged the tiny weight with another slightly bigger one. Izuru took the ten pound weight and held it like the previous ones.
The doctors, while not usually making good decisions, actually recognized that Izuru would listen to instructions given by Hajime. So they made use of that.
“Hinata. You are to relay any and all instructions to Kamukura.”
Yeah, he saw this coming. But that was fine, he supposed. So long as he didn’t have to request something dangerous.
And so it began. The doctors would bark out orders, which Izuru ignored. And in turn, Hajime would repeat the instructions with respect and carefulness. Which Izuru would perform the tasks, each successfully and with little effort.
Once they were satisfied with his physical capabilities, they tested his luck. One example being his ability to toss a puzzle cube up in the air and have it land completely solved. Hajime was astounded. And he praised Izuru for everything.
After some time, everything on the table had been used. So Hajime assumed that it was nearing the end of the test. He was relieved by this. He didn’t like how strenuous some of the tasks were. He was still slightly sedated. It can’t have been easy. So he was most eager to return the Ultimate Hope to his room.
“We need one more bit of pictorial data before we conclude. Hinata, remove Kamukura’s robe so that his body is visible.”
Hajime’s heart plummeted at the idea. And he felt a sort of rage. How dare they ask such a thing. Izuru was wearing undergarments, so it wasn’t like he would be fully exposed. But the idea of others seeing him without his robe infuriated him.
Izuru, the world’s best analyst, clearly saw this in his expression. He raised his hands and cupped his cheeks, tilting his head to make eye contact.
“Fret not, my dear caretaker. For I do not care if they see me.” He leaned in and whispered in his ear. “Though I will say your anger is flattering. And rest assured that only you may touch me.”
The words comforted Hajime. So he felt better about doing this task, even as the doctors behind him were exclaiming their disbelief over hearing Izuru speak.
Gently, Hajime pulled the robe off, revealing more and more pale skin. And… the large scar on his chest.
Hajime had seen it before. Many times. But still, the sight made him feel strange. Upset that he had gone through pain to acquire that scar. But also fascinated.
The sight also made his own ache. The scars he kept hidden. The residual effect of him surviving thus far. He rubbed one on his wrist, frowning at the phantom pain.
The red eyes noticed this, glancing down at his wrist before returning to his working eye. What that meant, he wasn’t sure.
But he didn’t have time to think much about it. The speaker came on again. “Hinata. Exit the lab and come to the observation room. Leave Kamukura in the lab.”
Again, it was a task he didn’t want to do. But he had to. So after a final look at Izuru, trying to express his apologies via eye contact, he exited the room and reported to the one the doctors were in.
“What did you need from me, sir?” he asked. “Were the test results unsatisfactory?”
He joined the older man in watching Izuru put his robe back on. “While this isn’t… ideal, this is still a good result.”
Hajime was confused. “How so, sir?”
The doctor grinned. “He’s controllable. He listens to you. Anything you told him to do, he did. So that bodes well for us.” The grin changed to a stern expression. “Don’t disappoint us. Make sure this monster is tame.”
“Yes, sir.”
Hajime walked out the door, returning to the lab. Those doctors didn’t know how incorrect they were. He was not loyal to them. He didn’t care about them. Especially not their approval. He was loyal to one and one only. And that was the Ultimate Hope.
“They are done with the tests. We can return you to bed,” he told Izuru, adjusting the shoulder of the robe to better cover the skin.
“Yes. Carry me back to my room, my dear caretaker,” Izuru replied, winding his arms loosely around the brunette’s neck.
Hajime nodded, picking him back up the same way he brought him down. This time with less embarrassment. For he had an important task.
But as they exited the lab and began walking, Izuru spoke up. “One thing before we return.”
Izuru reached over to the door where the scientists were currently. He tapped on the doorknob, smiling wide when it fell to the ground. “How unfortunate. Seems like their day will be inconvenienced by this. Similar to how they were inconveniencing us.”
Hajime grinned as he started heading to the elevator, ignoring the pounding on the door behind him. “Karma. It’s what they deserve. Now let’s get you back to your room.”

YOU HAVE OPENED THE FLOODGATES OF MY KAEDE TWIN SISTER OBSESSION. YEAAAAH.
FIRST OFF. her name is Aki Akamatsu, she has the same colored eyes and natural hair as Kaede, but due to an incident in her youth where she was separated from Kaede (only to be saved by DICE), she dyed her hair tar black. Also. She is so bisexual <3 in my "Aki is in V3 killing game AU" she has a Thing with both Miu and Kokichi (chapter 4 was rough on her, rip Aki). Though whether Kokichi reciprocated, I wanted to leave ambiguous- Miu and her were definitely gay though, good for them. She's somewhere in the middle of Kaito and Kokichi's philosophy on trust/believing in people - it takes a lot for her to trust you, just like Kokichi, but once you've earned that trust, she is Ride or Die for Life like Kaito. I liked her so much I started putting on in other Danganronpa games too - for example I have both a SDR2 and DR1 AU with her!! I think the SDR2 universe might be my favorite for the sole reason of remnant of despair!Aki. She's So Cool Actually.
Uhm, different things are different with her in different universes - she actually shares a very similar backstory to Maki, sort of? When she was young she was kidnapped, and in the care of an organization very similar to Maki's (with ties to them too). Her job in the organization, once they realized she had this talent, was something of "analyst". She wasn't as good as Ryouko is, her talent is very specifically limited to finding out what people want/their motives/how to please them, which had limited use to the organization but did have use. Unfortunately for Aki, she did end up killing people in this organization, which meant she couldn't join DICE after they found and freed her.
I consider this to be specific to my Aki in V3 universe - if Aki is a thing in canon V3, I imagine she never got kidnapped and instead just got adopted by her and Kaede's aunt later in life due to disagreements with her parents (I imagine the Akamatsu parents to be somewhat neglectful - not from malice, but they're Very Much Involved with their jobs to their kids detriment sometimes). But her and Kaede have a pretty good relationship in my head.
Why it's different in my Aki in V3 AU is because Tsumugi wanted more drama. In actuality, pre-game Kaede and Aki were never separated by kidnappings or anything so dramatic - they were just fairly normal sister's who had a shared love for Danganronpa. Kaede I imagine was much more bitter towards their neglectful parents, whereas Aki was much less angry than her in game self (Aki has something of a temper). I haven't ironed out everything pre-game wise, but I'd imagine she was much more apathetic and nonconfrontational because of it. Aki cares so much and so vibrately in game, that her pre game self being a depressed teen who's given up on everything is so sad to see. I do think her and pregame Kokichi knew each other too, but it was over all a much less passionate connection - in game, Kokichi very much HATES how she just... goes along with what he says so readily, trusts him over and over again, and I imagine for pregame Kokichi it was the opposite- he delighted in being listened to and obeyed (even if pregame Aki only did so because of her apathy, instead of in game Aki's trust of him).
In my SDR2 AU, Aki was rescued sooner and as consequence joined DICE then too- she was scouted for Hope's Peak as the Ultimate Second In Command! Aki was actually held back in school due to her missing so much time when kidnapped, so she ended up in a year younger than Kokichi - the V3 gang was the class above the SDR2 gang. Anyways, Kokichi ended up joining the student council, who... then get killed by Izuru. Whoops. Aki becomes DICE's new leader, is shut down a lot in trying to uncover Kokichi's actual cause of death, and then Junko comes along and corrupts her using the stress of being DICEs leader & the truth of the tragedy of Hope's Peak academy. Aki kills the core members of DICE who were like a family to Kokichi and her (DICE actually does have a lot more members than just 10 in this, but the core members/original members were the ten mentioned in Kokichi's motive video) and uses the rest of the organization to spread despair around the world. SDR2 happens, Aki grows close to Hajime, which makes it a real big bummer when AI Junko reveals that Hajime murdered Kokichi (or, well, got the student council to kill each other, I guess, but AI Junko definitely blames Hajime a Ton).
Aki was also close to Nagito in the sense that during chapter 1 she was suspicious of him, but then after chapter 1 she sort of just. Pitied him. They have a fun dynamic. She's probably one of the only people who actually can tell (usually) when he's saying the truth or when he's saying stuff he made up. She's also the first to believe that Hiyoko is telling the truth about not killing Mahiru in chapter 2 too - she's very quick with people in general, even if I wouldn't say she's great at every element of mystery solving.
In my DR1 AU she went to the same middle school as Makoto and Sayaka (Black Root Junior High), her and Makoto have a pretty fun relationship, too. Aki's a bit of a disaster bisexual, but I do view her and Makoto's relationship as completely platonic.
Her and Miu could have definitely worked out if she wasn't so fixated on Kokichi I think. They both had mutual crushes on each other and I think Aki was really good at handling Miu and bringing out a different side to her.
Aki in general has a lot of hang ups about being trapped - in her head, she's very, very scared to turn into her former captors. She has somewhat internalized that her captors "loved" her, so she equates being locked away with being loved - but she also very much never wants to be trapped again. But because love to her is always defined as victim and captor, subconsciously I think she thinks she has to trap people - because otherwise, they will trap her. Because that's what it means to "love" to her. So a lot of times, she gets the impulse to trap Kokichi, limit who he sees, control his actions - only tempered by her trust in him & belief that he's smarter than her. She's also a very, very jealous person, oftentimes seething when Kokichi talks to others (specifically Shuichi). In her head, these people will never understand people "like them", so spending any time with them is a waste, and he should only spend it with her. Somewhere deep down I think she knows these thoughts are wrong/unhealthy, but especially after Kaede dies, and with her loyalty to Kokichi, she gets increasingly isolated throughout the game, leading her to cling onto Kokichi even harder. This all culminates with Kokichi kidnapping Kaito - she's torn between letting him make his own choices and trusting him, and the sinking feeling that he's making a mistake and is going to get himself killed. This is her defining moment: will she let Kokichi make his own choices even if they lead to his death, or will she trap him?
In the canon version of the fic, she lets him go, though I do plan to write a version where she doesn't as a "bad ending what if". Oh! Another element of her arc is her relationship with Shuichi - she starts liking him before she slowly becomes soured on him, with her hating him for "not living up to" her sister's wish/failing her & "misunderstanding" Kokichi (even though imo it was definitely reasonable why Shuichi thought what he did of him). A lot of it is just... jealousy that Kokichi and Kaede liked him so much. But by the end of the game, they do reconcile with each other. Shuichi is actually the only person who really stays with her post game too (Maki and Himiko move out after an argument with Aki. Maki and Himiko also end up a couple, but thats neither here nor there). Shuichi goes from her worst relationship to her most solid one over the course of the story, basically. I love them <3
Okaaaay I think I've rambled enough!!! Yeah I just. Really love Aki <3
This is so neat!! Really interesting to also have an AU where she's in SDR2. I don't have a lot to add, but please know that I loved reading this, it's so thorough!!
