Monokuma's unhinged-calm reaction to "Junko" getting shish-kabobed

and of course

On the topic of Danganronpa being rich with foreshadowing and secret meaning and hidden depths, there's a lot of remarks from Monokuma that are very interesting when you know his true identity.

Like. The fact that Monokuma's a woman is something he brings up a. Lot. Like. A lot, a lot. There are a ton of lines in the game that sound like he's just being goofy but, in actuality, are just Junko talking normally.

I've made jabs multiple times about picturing Junko in her control room speaking into a mic whenever Monokuma speaks and how funny that is. But. Like. When you do that, a lot of his "jokes" just become sincere statements.

Junko Enoshima: Whenever I spot a cute girl, I have a tendency to stare. I can't help it; I just gaze with intensity! The other day, I rode my bike to the train station... I was in the bathroom, just looking at myself in the mirror...

Junko Enoshima: What, does that freak you out? You guys got no balls, you know that!? Is there just nothin' down there at all? Well, I'll let you pray to mine if you want! Actually, I don't have any, either! Sorry!"

Sakura Ogami: (meeting secretly with Monokuma) There's one thing I want to ask you. Junko Enoshima: As long as you don't want to know my measurements, fire away!

You put his words in Junko's mouth and you realize she's barely even playing a character. It's just the veil of her words coming out of a goofy male teddy bear that makes it look like a false persona.

having loadssssss of gonta and kokichi thoughts now...obsessed with them The Besties Ever.........

it gets me because their friendship is both about trusting Each Other. and trusting Themselves. like. in those summer camp interactions. it’s gonta repeatedly putting his trust into kokichi. because that’s his Friend. everybody else says that he shouldn’t. kokichi says that he shouldn’t. but gonta trusts him anyway. not because kokichi is tricking him. but because he’s using his own judgment. instead of following what others say about kokichi and what kokichi says about himself he instead looks at him from his own point of view…and comes to his own conclusion to trust him. and i think that is So Sweet. gonta’s a Lot more intelligent than he gives himself credit for!!! his own conclusion—that kokichi ends up always doing something to make people laugh—is accurate!! he can read him well! that’s where the trusting Himself part comes in. because he’s so convinced that he isn’t smart. that other people inherently know better than him. and yet, even when everyone tells him kokichi’s just trouble—he makes his own decision. he has faith in himself to put faith in kokichi. he is confident in this, which i think is so very important for him

they both kinda see something in each other that the others don’t!!! gonta seeing into kokichi’s better intentions where other people wouldn’t, trusting him despite everyone’s insistence that he isn’t trustworthy, including from kokichi himself. kokichi realizing gonta’s intelligence in a way that others don’t, despite others’ and gonta’s own dismissiveness towards that.

like…aughhhh i have so many thoughts but they aren’t entirely coming out into words correctly. kokichi doesn’t think he deserves a friend like gonta, if the utdp graduation event didn’t make that clear. he almost can’t believe someone could like him as genuinely as gonta does, to the point of accusing gonta of lying about being sad to see kokichi gone. and then in summer camp he keeps saying how gonta trusting him worries him. for kokichi it’s about learning to have faith in someone else to know when they want to hold faith in him. about having faith in himself to trust someone else. If that makes sense.

and then in the main game. It’s So Painful. because everything falls apart for them when they don’t have that. gonta had known what the motive video plan was and had agreed to it. but kokichi’s paranoia got the best of him, which led to gonta’s lack of belief in himself getting the best of him, and they didn’t work together again until chapter 4 at which point both of these issues had gotten Worse.

because the whole thing started with gonta now being so caught up in the need to protect everyone else and the belief that that’s all he’s good for. he goes with everyone’s distrust of kokichi and that’s exactly what kokichi uses to get him to do what he wants. while later kokichi becomes distrustful of gonta because during the trial, it seems like gonta is lying, and lying very well. I hope that i explained this in a way that makes sense my brain is foggy right now and i can’t seem to get the Exact Right words out

i just think they’re neat…i loveeeee the existence of the official non-despair AUs because they’re really cool insight. these two could be So Friends. basically i think they’re like this image:

CANON NOTE: Izuru Kamukura still exists. I will cover him in a separate post, as he's treated like a separate character. Strangely, though, from text alone, we can't confirm Hajime's relation to Izuru in the UTDP/Summer Camp AU. Considering Hajime and Izuru have similar scenes with different outcomes (much like Junko and Mukuro), it could be that they never exist at the same time (that is, we actually have two timelines going in this AU). It's up to your interpretation.

Sexuality Headcanon: this is...difficult. because of the Horrors. but in a world where he exists without his Sister in the background, i think he'd be pansexual. while his Love Hotel is...augh, it does give us some insight about him, and it seems like he's fully in control of his mind there. he at least likes guys sexually imo. further, other non-horrific interactions with Shuichi feel quite flirtatious...so he's a boy-liker for sure. at the same time, he did, uh, have a thing with his own Sister. so women are not off the table either, it seems? just hopefully...you know...ones he's not related to. all in all, i don't think Gender in a partner matters to him. humans is humans

Gender Headcanon: again, hard to know because of the Horrors. but again, without Sister Korkette's influence, i still think he'd be the slightly genderqueer goth king we all stan. you'd never really know his gender identity, but he could tell you everything about Alternate Genders around the world

A ship I have with said character: i kind-of think Shuichi x Korekiyo is cute. they both seem quite taken in by each other in the FTs

A BROTP I have with said character: if you haven't played UTDP or Summer Camp you are missing out on the absolutely adorable subtlety of the friendship he has with Syojack. it is Hilarious. she doesn't think he's cute and he doesn't think she'd be a good friend for his sister and they have a Disgusting Mutual Respect. he calls her "little lady" once. bless

A NOTP I have with said character: i don't think this needs to be said. i think we all know the NOTP

A random headcanon: even in a world without Sister Korkette he'd have a genuinely maternal/paternal side. i get the Vibe that he's quite nonjudgemental and sincerely loves humans. just...the Horrors. as has been previously stated

oh, the UTDP/Summer Camp ones? yes! i love doing them! may get to one or two today but definitely more this week.

for the record, there are a few characters i’m saving for the end because their status in the universe is Complicated and Weird (Junko and Mukuro) or i need to cross-reference a few scenes to explain what people think of them in-universe (Impostor). otherwise, i’ll be bouncing around all the characters and games for a bit.
