Okay actually most of the run was fine, after l adjusted to the burn in my chest from the whiskey, aha. But the beer, by god, the beer.

It took me over ten minutes to drink it, and I threw up TWICE during, but I did, in fact, finish! (It just, you know, didn't stay down. And really sucked. Did I mention it sucked?)

Miscellany: I listened to the audiobook The Headmistress by Milena McKay while running, and did in fact have tacos after. And churros!

@seolh This is so hard to guess! Especially for me! I notoriously guess wrong when it comes to picking out things Doc will love, so I feel like I'm very unqualified to say.

But if I had to take a guess, I'd say yes. Not only do I think Doc generally enjoys more when you don't info dump, I think she enjoys getting bits and pieces for character motivations as it goes. I would guess that she likes picking up what a piece of media is giving us about characters as they are now and reading into that to weasel out what might have shaped them that way.

This method, I think, sort of robs us of that process. Does that make it easier for kids? SURE! But in so many other ways, it really doesn't feel like this show dumbs things down too much for the sake of their child viewers. From what I remember, it actually has a lot of faith that kids can deal with high concept plots and characters and motivations. And I think Doc prefers things that do this and can do it from the outset.

I COULD BE ABSOLUTELY WRONG!

Especially because it ALSO depends on how else a pilot would have looked without that going on, and I'm not sure I can picture that all too clearly. XD

How to safely get rid of the 'promotional' dashboard clown with uBlock Origin (without needing to open tumblr and look at it)

alternate method to getting rid of the clown on dash for those with intense coulrophobia or unreality triggers, via the uBlock Origin browser extension:

1. Download uBlock Origin here (firefox) or here (chrome)

2. Click on the extension icon, then choose the cog icon

It’s usually Hot Pocket that initiates, as Mina’s a bit too big to get where Hot Pocket’s decided to loaf himself. Though I have seen her curl up next to him a few times when he decides to lay on a bed (either ours, or hers). So mostly, it’s him coming to her, but whichever way it plays out, IT’S SO GOOD AND PURE

Dr. Holligay Tries Things That Aren't Running: Boot Camp

This one is a bit of a cheat, because I do this class every week. But it, in fact, is not running, and is helping fulfill a bingo, so I'm counting it.

By its own admission, Boot Camp is an advanced class that is by most definitions the hardest class offered at the YMCA. It is an intensive strength class broken up by bits of sprint-style cardio. It's about lifting heavier, going faster, doing it cleaner. I always, always, sweat ONTO THE FLOOR in Boot Camp.

It's always done in stations, that you do in a rotation, and these generally include different parts of the body. Today had a lot of shoulder presses, and chest presses, but also a fair amount of FUCKING PUSHUPS and weighted reverse burpees. Interspersed with line sprints about every four stations.

The class is made for self-starters. Jessie, our fearless leader, says that her job is to keep "The laid-back pushing yourselves, and the little psychos from killing yourselves." You pick your own weight in each station. If you ask for a modification, she'll give it you. But also, she will call you on your crap.

Jessie has two sides. One of them is the "Fareeha Amari teaches a fitness class side" These saying include:

"You're not tired! We're fifteen minutes into class for god's sake." (ignoring that we did a quarter mile sprint followed by 30 jumping jacks followed by 15 jump tucks followed by 10 donkey kick jumps and THEN we headed into the lifting and burpees and whatever the hell else she had planned for us. )

"If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you!"

"Doc, I thought you were a runner. Faster sprint!"

"Make this class worth an hour of your time! Push! Push! Push!"

And then she has the, "Honoring your effort" side. These sayings include:

"You're gonna feel so good about this in ten minutes!"

"You showed up for yourself today, great job!"

"Doc, your pushup progress is awesome!"

"Everyone remember this is against the you of yesterday, the you of last week, the you of last month. NOT YOUR NEIGHBOR."

It is the only class I take where I literally cannot run after it. I am blown out like a sprinkler system in October. I finish and I have NOTHING left. I am sore not even the next day, but the same day. I had to change my run training because I can't do speedwork for days after the class. The entire time I'm in class I am fighting it. At least once a month I almost cry from frustration because I can't physically do something, i can't push it any further. I am easily one of the bottom 50% of the class--this is a 95% Jock Class. It annoys the FUCK out of me.

I love this class! I feel like I've taken myself as hard as I can go, and since I started taking it regularly a little over a year ago, I have gotten much stronger and put on a few pounds of muscle. My goal at all times is to be able to beat up about 95% of my followers, and this aids me in that noble and lofty goal.

Jessie handed me my sticker before class today. She doesn't worry about me leaving.

@seolh You are 100% correct! I felt like the show runners did really like her, but they didn't know what to do with her which is a shame.

Wolverine and the X-Men might not be a favorite show of me with any favorite interpretations of character personalities, but it did a really fantastic job utilizing Kitty's powers and that was really freaking cool!

Also today they could rightfully make her bisexual and bring Danielle back as her girlfriend. And obviously the show would have to have some queer solidarity and the lesbian Amara becomes a good friend and they hang out a lot! 😅

No idea what may have caused the change in behaviour, but my friend has a betta fish who is basically always that way. (Doesn't swim much, but still eats and reacts.) He's been that way for years, and still going strong!

That’s awesome! I know they can live long lives if kept well (I knew a guy in college who had his since the day he moved in to the day he graduated) so I just really wanna keep him in good spirits. But good to know that it’s not the end of the world.

I'd suggest getting decor he can swim in and out of, also get some bottom feeders he can follow around and look at. I would suggest no smaller than a 5 gallon for a single male betta. We have ours in a 10. You just have to watch filter strength at that point because where they live naturally is pretty low flow/still. Cory cats make great tank mates for bettas.

Oh. Also try getting some melafix/bettafix to put a few drops in his tank. May perk him up a bit. Could be water quality

He’s got a nice rock archway that has some plants on it that he really enjoys either sitting on top of or sitting on the plants. I definitely at some point want to get him something bigger and maybe a tank mate but that unfortunately might have to wait until I can actually find space for him to go that’s optimal. 

I think you’re right about the water quality though. I tested it yesterday and it was pretty hard so I probably should find a new water conditioner to see if it helps soften it up some for him.
