Picture books are harmful to children (Essay)
Tumblr media
Lion waiting in Namibia
I hate children. Not only do males not take care of their children like tigers and lions, but I like the style of killing their children like lions. (This is called the Bruce phenomenon.) So even if I accidentally become a father, I won't be interested in children and won't be with them. Well, like the Japanese warlords, I'll leave the education of my children to the right person.
Now, let's talk about "picture books." Whenever a smart woman has a "moving experience," she usually says she wants to make it into a picture book. Children are childish and stupid, so they welcome picture books. It's the law of supply and acceptance.
However, the danger is that even if a picture book with few words and thin content does match a child's sensibilities, after the picture book experience, the child stops growing. Even if the sensibilities are satisfied, the picture book does not contain enough information to raise the child's intelligence. Both mother and child are satisfied with their child's childish existence. This is no good. Children should read books that will sharpen their intellect, even if it means stretching themselves a little. Meaningless picture books are harmful.

Dear God, Jackson thought. Was there nothing left of decorum in this world?

You are actually such a sad person jeez I saw you being an asshole on that trans dads post and then turns out you’re a terf! Just as expected I hope you get better and realize there’s more to life then Hating people and playing the victim
My life is pretty awesome, and I’m even allowed to grill even though I am ~gasp~ a woman. If you enjoy your 1950s gender stereotype cosplay then go for it, but I will never stand by while ignorant people teach children that fishing and grilling is for men only. I guess by playing the victim you mean taking misogyny seriously, perhaps you should consider doing that yourself.

is that piece of media actually bad, or is it just not following the blueprint you projected onto it? is that work actually not good, or are you just demanding something from it that is absolutely antithetical to its themes, genre, tone, and narrative goal? is that story actually poorly written, or do you just dislike that it is not the specific things you wanted from it that it never set out to be, never was, and never is going to become? is it actually bad, or is it actually well-executed and you just dislike the story it chose to be because it isn't catering to your specific desires and expectations?

frankly, the people whose kneejerk reaction to bisan asking for a global strike form the 21st-28th is to say that it takes years to organize a general strike are really unhelpful! no one is saying otherwise, but palestine will be a smoking crater if we all wait for years to do anything - bisan is asking us to do something now. Like are we only supposed to do something if we can do it perfectly??? At some point it’s a valid critique about the work that goes into social movement, and at another point I feel like some people are just trying to absolve themselves from not putting any effort into observing a week of economic inaction.
like idk! I get it, okay! People have bills to pay that don’t magically go away for a strike, we don’t have nearly enough social infrastructure in place to support people to fully stop going to work for a week. But fuck, dude! Stop immediately responding in such a defeatist way! Cut out unnecessary purchases! Try to shop local! Put more effort into promoting Palestinian voices online! Attend a protest, call a local rep, do something!

And I'll say now, I never actually deliberately intended to do stuff just for shock value. I can't really help it if things just bother me less than they bother other people.

Haymitch's love for Katniss was quick, nearly automatic. A volunteer couldn't not be loved by the volunteered. And she was his best friend's child, for all that he had stopped having a best friend when the man laid on his chest to stop him from dying with his family because attachments would hurt him more than they would help him, so he had to. His heart had always been open to her. She just had to walk in.
But with Peeta? Peeta was a surprise. For a minute there, this merchant boy was just another casualty in his long list, was someone would soon join the legion of ghosts haunting his dreams and fended off by liquor. But then the glass got smacked out of his hand. Then he was kind. Then he had an aggressive and effective interview strategy. A flash of someone he had tried his damnedest to forget. And suddenly there was a place for Peeta not just in his mind but in his heart, as well.
Haymitch knew that he would have to be so so lucky and even then he'd only get one of them to survive. And he voice of Wyatt in the back of his head said it would be Katniss. But damn if he didn't adore both of them.
Damn if he wasn't very suddenly ready to add two more posters to his wall.
