Rewatched the Ark. Have a cold. I promised myself that the next time I got sick, I would binge Atlantis, but I can't handle the energy level of all the emotions. Lol. So I just watched this one. It's so fun. I love that Janus knew Sheppard wouldn't leave Teyla behind. He bet over a 1000 souls on Sheppard's inability to abandon his team. It was a safe bet. Lorne is great. Rodney is absolutely the best with his whining and sarcasm and then taking care of everyone and being worried. Also, I loved Weir just sending help no questions asked. She's so great.

This is just one of those really solid team episodes like Sateda and Inferno.

one beautifully done thing in terms of characterization in hannibal, is the way that hannibal was never able to successfully turn will against jack. i think hannibal tried very hard to convince will that jack was an enemy, doing his best to steer will into a perspective that would make killing jack in the end all the more easy, but jack is and was until the very end of the show BEDROCK and also a good man, and will saw that from the start. despite everything hannibal did in an effort to make jack the object of will's ire, he was never successful and i think that's a solid way to portray the sheer respect jack and will have for each other. will's decision to go over the edge with hannibal may have been a betrayal to jack in that one act, but i think ultimately the broken and the rebuilt trust they had for each other is the true test of esteem

Y'know Nathan Explosion is an unexpected fave character of mine and I dunno if this is a hot take, but I think the reason he's the ONLY one without deep-seated psychological issues due to childhood trauma but is still Like That is because he's autistic. His special interest is metal 🤘

this is the one I have virtually nothing on except vibes. I think I posted once that regulus would make a perfect Dr house because well. duh.

Just this cynical, miserable doctor who’s a genius at what he does and does not do it out of care for people or for the betterment of the world or whatever the fuck. he simply loves a problem to solve. patients are his perfect little inanimate puzzles. they might as well be dolls. no more real than the fake names on an exam question.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how regulus could be mistaken for a generally empathetic person (which he like is but also definitely isn’t), simply because of how much effort he puts into knowing people. it’s not that he wants to understand those around him and how they feel. it’s a compulsory need. a need to formulate some sort of prescription for the world at large, to understand why people do what they do like a game, an algorithm. and that’s very similar to House to me. although I haven’t watched the show in yrs.

and so he’s saved so many lives and it’s not at all out of the goodness of his heart.

My friend once told me abt tuberculosis and how it has had such a heavy influence on history that persists to this day. like there are randoms aspects of our present society that you would think “well this surely is not an indirect consequence of the widespread disease once known as Consumption” and then it IS. and Im a little obsessed with this idea of a Dr. Regulus Black who has this hyperfixation on disease and plague. he’s got this cynical worldview regarding how we are all shaped by disease, how we don’t need the pathogen itself to invade our body for it to still live in us, in all of us. we are diseased and we are doomed and love is just a meaningless chemical, love is an evolutionary response and my parents just didn’t get enough of those chemicals for whoever reason but it doesn’t matter because I don’t need love to survive.

and then enter cardiologist James (Wilson or whatever) who has the opposite outlook and loves too much and gets too attached to patients and allows Regulus to be soft meanwhile Regulus allows James to be mean or selfish or whatever in a way he doesn’t really get to be around anyone else.

also enter estranged Sirius who knows regulus doesn’t wanna see him but Remus is dying and no doctors can figure out why and this is his last hope.

i still have SO many feelings about the may & robin storyline, and just robin in general, honestly. like, i will seriously try and write a coherent thing about this at some point, but just. awestruck feels of the Soft Variety. it’s just- things brought full circle in the most gorgeous way. it’s a such a kind story, and it’s one of the most special to me in anything ever, i think. may has lost all hope so many times in so many ways. but she’s spent building so much time building herself back from so many personal ends, and when everything ends she becomes the person who keeps hope. she from not wanting hope she becomes the person that carries that hope for everyone.

robin is so young and has lived through so little and at once so much. more than anyone can fathom. she sees death and destruction behind her eyes all the time but that also makes the only person who sees the possibility of hope, the possibility of something that seems inevitable going differently. a chance for a better world, a better future. and it’s may who takes her in, takes care of her - in so many ways robin represents everything may never thought she could have, could be ever again: a mother. someone who could nurture, protect, love, hope. a source of comfort. unafraid.

You weren’t afraid of what I could do.

may knows what it is to have a hell inside your head. to find a way out, to find the hope, the light. it’s not the same thing, but it IS. robin knew, all her days, that she was safe. may believed in her. may was herself- everything she was, everything her life had made her, and that meant someone who made a little girl feel safe. that meant someone who never gave up hope. she lost so much and she loved even harder and because of THAT- because she believed in a little girl who saw a better world- because of that the world was saved.

AGH.

their exchange in the flashback is one of my favorite bits of dialogue.

may: you tell me your vision of us saving the world.

robin: but I’ve never seen that vision.

may: you will.

i’ve been feeling like I need a break from writing may lately, and have simultaneously been having kind of a hard time with that (in all fairness, i’ve written two frickin novels’ worth of her over the past almost two years and little else… this relates to both points). so. working on giving myself less of a hard time about, um, most things really, but especially ebbing and flowing inspiration. but i really really want to write something for them someday. this story is so, so special to me.
