I love how hard the makers of High School return of a gangsta went above and beyond to establish how much Sekyung and Yieon love each other like please, I can't count all the instances of them full on lovey Dovey on both of my hands, the secret glances, the jealous side eyes, the acts of services, THE SMILES?????? but saying the g word omoooooooooooooooooo thats where we draw the line which in all honesty is fair because if they had said it then we would have not gotten the gorgeous gorgeous (YUM AS FUCK) cast we got but please this is funny to me

Especially that bgm which is so goddamn literally dripped in og classic kdrama romance but it says "you are my friend" and the fact Jae min (the villain) literally becomes their adopted child

the absolute cutest part for me was in the original past, Yichan chased after Sekyung, got rejected, lost his hearing, and THEN dated Cheongah. i was really worried about the butterfly affect (or, in Eungyeol and Eunyoo's case, the bull in a china shop affect) making it so if those things didn't happen, he wouldn't have ended up with Cheongah, but here he goes still choosing her 🥺 here he goes punching abelists for her 🥺 here he goes learning sign language and teaching his friends to greet her 🥺🥺🥺 here is Yichan, who fell in love with Cheongah dispite them being in "diffrent worlds", and immediately showed her off. AND THEY DID ALL OF IT basically by themselves 😭💔💔

+ 5 bonus points for Eunyoo getting happy when Eungyeol told her he started liking "Sekyung" after she came back from the US, so he truly only fell for Eunyoo and not her mom

I might be found dead the next day after this post but here we go.

Many people greeted the ending of hsrg with rounds of applause and i was surprised to find out that a lot of people from tumbler actually hated it because it was homophobic. However I think the ending is quite the opposite and it is more gay than it could be. Hear me out🙏.

I'm going to talk solely about the drama since they changed a key element which is Yiheon being queer. In the context of a tv show original ending would make sense in two cases:

1) Sekyung and Yiheon had something between them before the main plot (which they didn't. It is clear from the apology scene and the flashback that they have never properly interacted before let alone having any kind of attraction. Yiheon was just hoping to get a friend since the other one was the only who stood up for him. And they weren't even close to "friends")

2) Throughout the series original Yiheon comes to the surface to interact with Sekyung (which also didn't happen)

What I'm trying to say is that it was new Yiheon all along who was willing to help and support Sekyung. All the longing, staring, touching, caring were of Deuk Pal's. And it is him who Sekyung fell in love with. Their relationship evolved naturally throughout the series and I think it would be strange to have Sekyung end up with someone who has completely different personality. For me it is disturbing to date someone who both looks and even acts like someone you loved when you know it is not them. I have no idea how it worked out in the manhwa but in the drama these two fell in love with each other, had extremely soft relationships and now live their happily ever after.

They tried to fix the gay problem with the double date suggestion at the end but it was as useless as Soohyuns existence in tdj
