Tokusatsu fans would be familiar with Machineman, a series that aired in 1984. Machineman was one of the toku shows that I really enjoyed as a kid. When news of its protagonist's actor passed, I was deeply saddened. Didn't help that I was in the hospital when I learned about it the day the news circulated on social media. I've always wanted to draw some traditional art again, and decided I'd do a Machineman tribute.
Osamu Sakuta passed away due to pancreatic cancer last December 4, 2020 at the age of 62. He played Seiun Kamen (Nebula Mask) Machineman and his alter ego Nick/Ken Takase. Thank you for making my childhood awesome! 😭

Art-wise, doing this drawing made me realize one reason I kind of stopped drawing traditionally. The quality of the sketch pad brand (Corona; well, what do you know 😅) I always bought growing up has declined over the years. I've been trying out different pads and none compare to what that good brand used to be. The one I used in this drawing has awful quality that it's hard to use the colored pencils on it, and the paper easily gets damaged with erasure. In recent years, a new brand called Canson has been around. I've tried it a few times (an A5 size I think) and I'm very satisfied. I might go get a bigger Canson pad soon. I want to be able to easily blend colored pencils. That's what I love with traditional art, the feel of the colored pencils on paper and seeing the colors blend wonderfully. 🧡 I also hope I get some inspiration to draw a lot more again with this art. I've been in an art slump for so long. 😅 And yay I can still draw on paper! 😆
Nebula Mask Machineman was created by Shotaro Ishinomori and produced by Toei Company. It ran for 36 episodes during 1984. It begins with Nick (Osamu Sakuta) and his ball-shaped robot Ball Boy arriving on Earth in their Space Colony ship from the Ivy Planet and hopes to one day graduate with a degree in Sociology. Upon arriving on Earth, his primary objective is studying human behaviour and…
So apparently there’s two characters named machineman not just the Toku one. Thinking about it I should’ve known about the marvel one earlier since he was introduced in FF and I love FF but nope. I think Seiun Kamen Machineman is cooler though I mean he has a transparent cape and cooler colors.
Voice actor Kazuhiko Inoue revealed on Twitter that fellow actor Osamu Sakuta has passed away. He was 62 years old at the time of his passing. Inoue’s announcement did not include a date of death or a cause of death.
In anime, Sakuta’s credits include Shishinki in the InuYasha: The Final Act anime and Hokuto in the B’t X anime. He starred as Ken Takase/Machineman in the live-action Seiun Kamen…

I was tagged by @magpants who’s looking for song recs. Plus, I kinda like these kinds of memes. Doing this twice because they didn’t specify whether they specifically wanted anime songs or not.
Sorry if it took me a long time to do this >.<
