*Flashback*
She didn’t know what captured her first - his smile, his laughter, or his eyes. She swore he had the warmest eyes she’d ever seen. And he was absolutely clueless of the power that rested in those dark brown orbs. She saw her fantasies in them. She saw vast possibilities, endless resolutions, and more importantly, freedom. She wondered how many versions of herself that she could be around him and she wondered who he was outside the confines of these four walls that they both seemed to frequent every Friday afternoon. The Smoothie Café on 15th Street was quaint and quiet. It was something that she had been lacking recently. The art of simplicity. She wondered if he lived a simple life and she wondered what he wrote about when he typed on that laptop of his. Whatever it was, held a lot of importance. She figured it was important enough for him not to notice her.
Neglect was never a stranger to her, but it still hurt all the same. She figured this is just the life of an attention seeker ever insatiable for the spotlight or maybe ever insatiable for love. Silently, she sighed before taking another sweet swig of her fruity delight of a drink. Carelessly, she stole one more glance from Mr. Pretty Brown eyes. But this time, to her surprise, his eyes were already resting on hers. Again, he had the warmest eyes she’d ever seen but yet, they were able to send a chill down her spine. She smiled timidly and he did the same. Slowly, he stood up from his table and began gradually walking her way.
She pretended to busy herself with some random app on her phone. Again, she took another sip of her smoothie and waited impatiently for his arrival. Moments later, he stood in front of her table.
“Excuse me,” he said politely.
“Yes,” she responded, kindly.
“I’ve noticed that we both seem to come here a lot. The drinks here are amazing,” he said, as he nervously rubbed the back of his neck.
“They are,” she agreed.
“I figured it’s time for me to introduce myself. I’m Ambrose. All my friends call me Ro,” he replied, smiling.
“Charisma,” she answered. “That’s a pretty name. Doesn’t it mean immortal or something like that?” She quizzed.
“Yeah, it does. It has Greek Origins. Thank you,” he replied, chuckling.
“You’re welcome,” she replied, smiling.
“Since we’re on the topic of pretty things, I think you’re absolutely beautiful,” he admitted.
And just like that her smile grew even wider.
“Thank you,” she answered.
“If you’re not busy or anything. I would love to take you out to dinner sometime. Or maybe we can get a smoothie together?” He suggested.
Before she could answer, The sound of reality buzzed in the palm of her hand. Masego was calling. Quickly, she ignored the call.
“I would love to,” she replied, eagerly.
“Bet,” Ambrose stated, happily.
Gleefully, they both exchanged numbers and then exchanged goodbyes.
She watched Ambrose exit the Smoothie Café with a small smile on her face. Once the door behind him closed, she returned her attention back to her phone. It buzzed again, and again, and again. Her phone was flooded with missed calls and unread texts. Reluctantly, she read Masego’s last message.
“I’m back in town …. I want to see you. I missed you,”
Instantly, she was reminded of how courteous her lover was. He was just so mindful. How mindful and considerate he was to announce his arrival back home after not speaking to her for over a month. She was completely ghosted. His prized jewel on the shelf collecting dust. He was absolutely polished and pristine. How kind he was to update her on his well-being overseas through Instagram stories and Twitter posts. It would only be right for her to match his chivalry. She left her lover on read and tossed her phone in her purse. She gathered the rest of her belongings and exited the cafe and entered a new state of illusion.
——-
*Present*
The crowd sounded like roaring lions. Their cheers echoed loudly throughout the building. Even with the door closed you can feel their adoration pulse. She couldn’t blame them though. She loved watching him perform on stage too. Quietly, she sat down and tried to think about all the things she loved about him. She even tried to think about all the reasons she had to stay and all the reasons she had to go.
Breaking her many thoughts, she felt her phone vibrating in her pocket. It was Ambrose calling. Hesitantly, she ignored his call. Seconds later, he followed up with a text.
“Did you end it with him? Have you talked to him? Call me baby, please,”
She read his text and instantly her heart broke. Ambrose didn’t deserve this. She didn’t deserve this.
“Fuckkk,” she groaned.
Tears welled in her eyes and slid down her cheeks as she texted Ambrose back.
“No, he’s performing right now. Didn’t catch him. Will call later,”
Quickly, she locked her phone and tossed it to the side. She closed her eyes and tried to quiet her mind.
——
Several moments passed and Masego quickly entered his dressing room sweaty and breathless. A sense of relief washed over him the moment he saw Charisma’s face. She was still there. He smiled widely and sat beside her on the couch.
“You’re here,” he whispered.
“I am,” she replied.
“Are you ready to talk?” She questioned, sternly.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Good,”

How was the concert?? Tell me everything!
OH MY GOSH OKAY OKAY OKAY SO. IT WAS AMAZING :D ❤️
So before the concert started and everyone was waiting in line, I got to meet the AMAZING @mayathexpsychic and @acaesic in-person!! :D 💖 It was amazing, they're both such sweet and cool individuals, and I had so much fun chatting and hanging out with them before the show. It definitely made the wait a lot easier and a lot more fun!! ^^ 💖
When we finally got into the venue, after some waiting, we got to see the opening act, Sego!! I didn't really know what to expect, cause I hadn't heard of them, but oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤩❤️ They were so good!! 😁❤️ I'm definitely gonna have to look into their music, I enjoyed their set a lot ^^ 🫶
After that. oh my god. The wait for Dallon to come out was EXCRUCIATINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG IT FELT LIKE IT TOOK FOREVER XD I never knew what to expect when one of the songs that was playing faded out, or when someone walked onto the stage only to be one of the people helping to set up. IT WAS LIKE TORTURE, I NEVER KNEW WHEN HE WOULD COME OUT AND IT FELT LIKE SUCH A LONG TIME X'D 💔
BUT WHEN HE FINALLY CAME OUT. OMG. HE COMMANDED THAT STAGE. THE SHEER POWER AND CONFIDENCE HE EXUDED WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AS HE CONTROLLED OUR CHEERS WITH HIS HANDS. Also. HE LOOKED SO AMAZING???????????????????? HIS HAIR WAS SO PRETTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY AND HE LOOKED AMAZING IN THAT SUIT. NOT TO MENTION THAT. HE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PERSON I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE 🫢💘 LIKE. HE IS STUNNINGLY PRETTY. HE'S SO GORGEOUS FHXGVKFHXCGJHCXJCGFXJHCGGJXCCJVJCJCJCVC ☺️💘 AND WHEN HE TOOK OFF HIS SUIT JACKET AND STARTED ROLLING UP THE SLEEVES OF HIS SHIRT OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY 🤭💞 The moment that he first walked onstage to the first few songs are kind of a blur to me, cause I was. ABSOLUTELY LOSING MY MIND XD I WAS GOING ABSOLUTELY FERAL CAUSE THE REAL DALLON JAMES WEEKES WAS RIGHT. THERE. OH MY GOD XD ❤️ So yeah I don't really remember them cause I was losing my MIND over him during them 🤭💖
As for how the concert worked, things have kinda changed!! For one, Dallon did a lot less bass playing and a lot more moving around the stage as he sang. Mad IQs used to be special cause he ditched the bass and was just a lead singer for a while, but he did that for maybe half the songs of the concert!! And I'm not complaining at all, Dallon is very fun to watch as he moves around onstage, he has a lot of fun with it and is just very full of energy and charisma!! It's a welcome change in my opinion :) 💖 As for the backing musicians, things have changed too!! Anthony is still his touring guitarist, but there's a new musician too who. I wasn't sure if he was playing guitar or bass or both, but his name was Isaac Paul. There's also a new drummer too, whose name is Ronnie Strauss! Dallon didn't really talk about Ryan during the concert, which I think was a tasteful decision on his part, BUT. HE DID MENTION HIM ONCE 🤭 As he was introducing the musicians, he said, "Turns out you can afford more people when you aren't being stolen from." WHICH WAS SO ICONIC. OMG. IF YOU'RE GONNA BRING HIM UP, WHAT A WAY TO DO IT X3 ❤️ IT WAS SO FUNNY HFXJGCHXFXCGJXFCJGJGXGJCVXVJJGXGJCGJCVJCGJC 🤭
And can I just say, I love Dallon's charisma onstage!! He would talk in between songs, and every time, he was just so charming and personable, it was a lot of fun!! :) ❤️ He's so good at connecting with the crowd, I loved hearing everything he had to say ^^ ❤️ A couple of highlights include:
He asked us if we all had good Christmases, and when we cheered, he said, "Well, that's neat!" in the GOOFUEST voice. It was so silly X3 ❤️
Before Kiss Goodnight, he talked about having fallen in love with Breezy years ago and still being in love with her to this day, and he shared that they did, in fact, kiss goodnight that night. It was really sweet 😊💖
He said that that night, we were all his date, and he was our date (if we're into that sort of thing), which. MADE ME BLUSH AND GIGGLE AND KICK MY FEET A LITTLE HEHEHEHE ☺️🩷 I WISH I COULD BE HIS DATE XFHGJJFXJGCXVJJCVVCJJCVCBJ 🤭💖
Before Choke, he gave a whole heartfelt speech about how much it meant to him that people came to see the show, and how amazing it is that the one thing unifying a room full of strangers is the music that they enjoy, and he finished it with, "Now, if you don't mind, choke yourself to sleep". IT WAS SO FUNNY FHXGJCHJCGXFJGJCXCJGJCCGJBC, HE'S SO AWESOME 🤭❤️
Anyway, moving onto something else: I don't tend to sing along with the songs during a concert, I prefer to just listen to how they're being performed. So while I didn't sing along with most of the songs, I had a lot of fun participating during the parts where he wanted the crowd to sing, like Social Climb and A Letter!! But the absolute peak crowd participation moment HAD to be Visitation of the Ghost!! 🤩💖 From where I was standing, it was pretty hard to see him during the crowd walk... BUT STILL!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT TO EXPERIENCE A CROWD WALK LIVE OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG 🤭💖 That song overall is just. absolutely amazing to see live, it was a incredible experience and one of the best parts of the night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤩❤️
AND. OK. I REFUSE TO SAY MUCH ABOUT DOWNSIDE, BUT. I LOVED IT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH 😁💖 I couldn't really understand what he was saying, but the vibes of the song were sooooooooooooooooo fun and I can't wait to finally hear it on the album!! 😄🩷 Speaking of which, he said a different Gloom Division song will be coming out in two weeks, and I can't wait to find out which one it is!! Maybe it'll be Kiss and Tell, he used that phrase during the concert, so. maybe that was a hint :o ❤️ That's just a guess though, idk what to expect X3
Anyway. It was an absolutely incredible experience!! :3 💖 Dallon is an absolutely phenomenal performer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😄🫶❤️ He's an incredible musician, he has a beautiful voice, and he has so much amazing energy and charisma up on that stage 😁🩷 It was incredible seeing one of my favorite musicians perform live right in front of me, I had so much fun, and I'm so grateful I got the opportunity to go see him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤩💖 I had such an amazing time and I can't wait to see him again in April!! ^^ ❤️🫶

oh Sego my baby
you never liked it when I called you baby...come to think of it; there were alot of things you didn't like about me. i admit...I could have done better
i don't suppose you're familiar with Usher's music, there's this 2 pt. song he has called "Confessions" . that's my mood as i pen this note.
i was a half hearted friend towards the end, i failed to come through for you and be a quality companion... I was so caught up in my own storms, trying not to die (which i still don't regret) that i couldn't give u the attention u needed. i was haphazard when it came to you... our friendship is no more and i feel like a dropped a tray of eggs, seems a bit insignificant but boy is it a mess!
look, part of it was that you turned me on, ngl i found u very attractive and given the environment we met in, those weren't thoughts and emotions i wanted to entertain so i took the easy way out and kept you at arms length...shoot me
the reason why im writing this though, isn't to apologize...I've already done that and it did not help. I'm rather writing this to solidify my care for you
I think about you once in a while, i see so much of my flaws in you (yes you're a very flawed girl in case you didn't know) and they often prompted me to deal with them
you were emotionally complex, and my ability to interpret such has been deteriorating over the past few years. a battle with paying for studies, a bit of lust and unresolved emotional trauma. a combination of things that doomed our friendship from the start
horrible timing, had u come just a little earlier, even about 3 months earlier into my life, things could have been different.
I'm sorry baby
yes, you are my baby
and you're very special to me
see you on the other side
xoxo

NAFF I'M GOING INSANE!!! AAAAAAA!!!!
The boys gently moving the flowers away and then putting them back on the dead bodies after eating their hearts have me bawling my eyes out!! :'0 aaaaa... AAAAA!!!!
POOR LAMBERT! WTF!! That's the most horrific death scene I've ever read! Man... Poor guy.....
THE DETECTOR!!! NOOOOOO!!!! MY FAVORITE CHARACTER!!!!! Rest in peace valiant warrior. May your beeps and blinks of truth be recognized as such one day. :'(
The lizard demon is such a menacing threat, whatever they do to her she just comes back stronger and more furious and I love it!! And hate it,, but mostly LOVE it!! And again, the gore descriptions and violence!! YEEEES!! *CHEF'S KISS*
The line: "It is not you who aren't brave. It is us, but no more. We will tell you the truth." Has me in a death grip! That whole scene pulled my heartstrings so hard it hurts!! *Sobs*
The reveal is so close I can taste it!! But I still have no clue what'll happen!! That ending has me scratching my brain so vigorously for theories of what's gonna happen! ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN!! I'm so excited for the next part!!!! 👀👀👀
Sorry I'm just screaming at you, cryptid sightings just makes me so excited!! X3
Amazing chapter as always!❤️ Naff, wonderful Naff, I hope you're having a good day! *Hugs you hugs you hugs you*❤️
MEEP AHHHH!
Ahh, that was one of my favorite paragraphs to write in the chapter, the boys talking about Y/N's sego lilies, so I'm really happy you pointed that out!
F's in the chat for the detector, it never got the recognition it deserved.
Oh ho, yup. The tongue-eater means what she says. ♥
Please scream all you, I love to hear it, it's like music to my ears! heheh
Ahhh, Meep, babe, thank you so much! *hugs you hugs you hugs you back*

Sego
A couple of weeks ago I was able to connect with rock band, Sego, to discuss their latest music video for “Malibu Mary.” In this interview I also asked the band about their overall creative process for writing their material, as well as what fans can expect from the band on their recently announced LP called TANDANG. TANDANG will be released on streaming services on November 12th, but you can pre-save it here. Can you describe your creative process for “MALIBU MARY”? It started as an innocuous piano part that I recorded into my Akai reel-to-reel tape machine and then chopped up to create a staggered sample sequence to lay over a simple beat—a mostly creative exercise. I initially shelved it, thinking it might be a bit too hip-hop for Sego, but I couldn’t help revisiting it. This was probably the most aggressive vocal process I’ve used on one of our songs. I ended up whispering the chorus melody in a lower register, pitching it up, formant-shifting it down, and dousing it with delays—for those who care about vocal production. Eventually, we took it into the studio with Nate Pyfer (producer) and Finn Bjarnson (mixer), where we explored more of the textural elements of synth and guitar that brought the song to its final, moody resting place. Despite its initial waywardness, I’m glad we chased this outlier because it ended up coalescing into one of my favorites on the new album. How does this new music compare to your previous work? What’s different or similar? I think our previous work skews, both musically and lyrically, more pointed, direct, and angular. It had this directness, like we were trying to say something specific and maybe even mean it. The new album, TANDANG, and song, “MALIBU MARY,” feel more removed, more distant, like there’s a layer of gauze over everything. We never really plan or conceive how it will turn out. The tunes end up more or less reflecting whatever place or headspace we were in when they were conceived. So, I suppose this time, we were hanging out in a more distant, nostalgic, synth-soaked zone. Go figure. What kind of visual style or aesthetic did you aim for in the video? Are there any specific influences or inspirations? The song itself has this lush, almost overproduced quality, but it’s grounded by a simple, slightly off-kilter, dissonant piano part—a sort of built-in self-critique. When working with our friend/director, Julian Acosta, we decided to try to reflect those poles visually. But, as is often the case, things went sideways as soon as we started shooting. We started with these super-polished, commercial-esque shots in Roman Coppola’s office, but then we began splicing them with raw phone footage and camcorder BTS stuff we were capturing on the fly, ostensibly for our own behind-the-scenes use. What we ended up with is kind of a video about making a video, complete with meta references to the editing process and the inevitable second-guessing. So, you could interpret it as a commentary on the song’s internal conflict between beauty and self-dismissal—or you could see it as evidence of our collective inability to maintain a straight face or consistent narrative for more than a few minutes. Which, honestly, might be the truer takeaway. You can decide. --- Please consider becoming a member so we can keep bringing you stories like this one. ◎ https://chorus.fm/features/interviews/sego/

pseudo do you have a favorite contemporary musician/band? ik some of the oldies you like but i'm wondering about any more recent tastes/finds?
I do prefer the oldies, but as for the little handful of modern music, Lord Huron and Sego come to mind first.

AB: Sego are recording new music, and played some of it (with a slight lineup change) at Zilker Brewing. They still sound great, even if the songs from their fantastic last album (and their hard-rocking cover of “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?”) are hard to beat.
