Sylus
Part 1
Pairing: Sylus x f!Reader
Summary: Sylus has the whole girl dad thing down to a t, though you'd disagree.
Warnings: Fluff
Discord +18 - Twitter - Ko-Fi - Bluesky
Becoming a father again is certainly a tumultuous situation. Sylus isn’t the same man that he once was. His knees hurt from doing the simplest tasks, and he doesn’t have the same energy he did when he had his son. Nonetheless, he was ecstatic.
Sylus wasn’t sure what he would do, especially not with a girl. But once he held the little bean in his arms, it’s as if it was programmed into his brain. The task was simpler than he could’ve imagined.
Spoil her rotten.
“Papa!” His little girl yells, making sure her daddy follows along. Diana is a headstrong little girl who loves her daddy more than anything– That is because Sylus spoils her rotten. Anything she wants, she gets. Both from her father, and older brother. “Koen!”
“We’re following, sweetie.” Sylus responds, though that isn’t a good enough answer for her. The three-year-old wants both her father and brother to walk alongside her, not behind her.
“What do you want to show us?” Koen asks, wondering if he’s wasting time by going with her. He’s supposed to meet up with some friends in an hour or so and he’s still wearing pajamas.
“Yes, what are you up to?” Sylus’ eyebrows perk up. Amusement flows through him, but he won’t laugh just yet. He knows that the little girl is up to something, Sylus can feel the mischief cloud that surrounds her.
There’s silence. Sylus has taught his little girl one thing: don’t confess to your crimes. Ever. She knows that much. But there’s something that Sylus forgot to teach her in Crime 101.
“Why are we going to dad’s room?” Koen furrows his eyebrows, preparing himself for the worst. The boy is right, Sylus failed to notice that they’re going to his room.
There’s no answer again, and this time it worries Sylus. Just what exactly did Diana do? He’s about to ask her what she did, though he knows it’s to no avail. She knows better than anyone to not confess her crimes.
It’s a good thing that he doesn’t have to wait too long to find out, because once the door to his room opens, he sees the catastrophe that Diana has caused in the room. The cool air suddenly gets hot, and Sylus begins to get heart palpitations.
“Oh! This is going to be good!” Koen exclaims, seeing the mess that’s in the room. The teenager bursts into laughter while Sylus begins to sweat.
Sylus isn’t scared of anything– Well, he is scared of one thing and that’s his wife. The wife that warned him about letting Diana get away with everything. You told him he should start disciplining his little girl more often. The man didn’t listen, and now it bites him in the ass.
“Mama’s makeup!” She points out, and Sylus tries to process the mess that she’s made. All of your precious makeup is scattered over the room. Splatters of foundation on the bed sheets, the lipstick spilled over Sylus’ precious rug, crumbled eyeshadow on the nightstand. Sylus will die tonight and resurrect three days later.
It’s not that he can’t afford it, it’s about the principle.
“Koen, get the materials. We have a cleanup.” Sylus says, rolling up the sleeves of his shirt since he has to clean up a dead body. In this case, your makeup unless he wants to become the dead body.
“You don’t like it?” She asks with tearful eyes, making Sylus clicks his tongue. It seems that it’s time to teach her the second lesson in Crime 101: Never mess with mommy’s things.
He guesses this is his punishment for spoiling her a little too much. And as he stares at the mess while the teenager gets everything needed for a clean up, Sylus can only think of one thing… He’d absolutely do it again.

Thank you for the prompt! Here's some post-canon, pre-slash Payneland:
22. “...you knew?”
CW: Referenced homophobia
They don’t talk about it, until there’s nothing to do but talk.
Charles isn’t sure how long they’ve been trapped in this iron cage; there aren’t any windows in their prison and it’s not like they need to eat or sleep. Their captors took Charles’s bag, his cricket bat, and Edwin’s notebook when they threw them in there, so there’s nothing to do to keep them occupied. There’s not even enough room for Charles to pace; the cage is barely large enough for them to both stand chest-to-chest without touching the iron bars.
So they talk, because Charles would go mental otherwise. They talk about Charles’s dad and Hell and Port Townsend and losing Niko. They reminisce about past cases. They speculate about how much Crystal and the Night Nurse are probably driving each other mad right now. And finally, when it seems there’s nothing left to talk about, they revisit the elephant that’s been hanging between them for six months now.
“I wasn’t sure if you would ever want to see me again after I told you,” Edwin says quietly, nearly a whisper. The basement is pitch dark; even though their faces are only centimeters apart, Charles can’t make out his expression.
Charles is surprised by how much that hurts. “Why wouldn’t I want to see you again?”
“Because back in my day, what I told you would have been unconscionable.”
“Well, it’s not your day anymore, is it?” Charles shakes his head. “You really thought I’d go all the way to Hell for you, then leave you on the steps?”
“Of course not. I just didn’t know if you’d want anything to do with me after we escaped.” Edwin blows out a frustrated breath. “You must understand, none of this was something to be spoken of when I was alive. It wasn’t even to be thought of. When people like me were spoken of, it was because we were the subject of scandal, condemnation, and usually criminal charges. There weren’t people like Crystal running around with flags.”
“Yeah, I get that, mate,” Charles says. Not even the happy memory of Crystal and Edwin arguing when she wanted to hang up a pride flag in the office is enough to distract him. “But I told you, didn’t I? It doesn’t matter one bit to me. It wasn’t really a surprise, to be honest.”
He knows it’s the wrong thing to say even before Edwin’s voice goes shrill with indignation. “You knew?”
“Not about you being in love with me,” Charles says quickly. “Didn’t see that one coming, trust me. But I mean, I could guess you were… not a ladies’ man.”
“Not a ladies’ man,” Edwin echoes. “How did you know”
Charles doesn’t know how to answer that, because the truth was, he just sort of… assumed. There was something about Edwin that always reminded him of Mr. Wright, the man who’d lived two doors down from him when he was a kid. He’d always seemed like a nice enough bloke, but his father sneered at him and forbade Charles from riding his bike past his house alone. It wasn’t until Charles was older that he realized that the quiet man who lived with Mr. Wright probably wasn’t just his roommate.
“I don’t know, mate,” he finally says. “Guess I just know you, don’t I?”
“Everyone always knew, back when I was alive.” Edwin doesn’t sound indignant now, just tired. “The way I walked, the way I spoke, the way I stood. That was why Simon…”
He trails off, but Charles knows what he was going to say next. Days ago—at least Charles assumes it was days, but it may have been weeks by now—Edwin finally told him the whole story of how he died. Charles got so angry, he punched the bars of the cage and barely noticed when they burned his hand.
“They were fucking idiots,” Charles says fiercely. “All of them.”
“Of course they were, Charles. They accidentally summoned a demon as a prank. They were hardly Britain's greatest minds.”
“No, because they were shitty to you because of the way you stood.” Charles reaches up to put his hands on Edwin’s shoulders, just like he did on the stairs out of Hell, smoothing his thumbs over his collarbones. “Listen, you have to know that there’s nothing you could ever tell me that would make me never want to see you again, yeah? Nothing. You’re my best mate. That’s never going to change.”
He hears Edwin’s throat click as he swallows. “Never say never.”
“No, I will bloody well say never,” Charles says firmly. “Our friendship survived you not liking ska. It will survive anything.”
That earns him a small laugh.
Charles’s chest feels tight with a thousand emotions he can’t put a name to yet. “And I think you being in love with me is brills, okay?”
“You do?” Edwin sounds gobsmacked, which makes Charles smile. He likes taking his partner by surprise. Doesn't happen often, does it?
“I mean, it’s just… flattering, you know?” Charles’s face is warm, which is weird. Ghosts aren’t supposed to get flushed. Did he touch the iron bars without noticing? “Because you’re aces and if you love me, then I must be pretty great too, yeah?”
“Like I said in Port Townsend, you’re the best person I know,” Edwin says, voice going soft again.
Yeah, it’s definitely too warm in here. Time to get out of this bloody cage. “And at least you’re not in love with the Cat King or that bloody crow.”
Edwin lets out a huff of laughter. “I suppose it could be worse.”
Charles feels like there’s more to say, because Edwin’s got to know how much he means to him, but before he can find the right words, there’s a horrible wrenching noise, followed by a crash, as if the door has been ripped off the cage. Charles whirls around, arm thrown out to defend Edwin, ready to take on these wankers with his bare hands if he has to—
“For goodness’s sake.” The Night Nurse’s voice rings through the darkness. “I do not know how on earth the two of you managed before Crystal and I came along. Getting dragged to Hell, kidnapped by witches, and locked in cages. What a way to run a business.”
Charles’s shoulders sag with relief as Edwin makes an offended noise behind him. “Would you believe that we used to not get kidnapped all that often?”
“No,” she says flatly. “Now, come along, let’s get the two of you out of here before you manage to get into more trouble.”

pls give atsushi headcanons plsplsplsplslsplpspslss
I feel like a cat that’s been coaxed out from under the sofa.
Sure.
-Atsushi’s multilingual. Many of the orphanage staff are foreigners that served alongside Japan in the Great War and settled down there after it ended.
And so Atsushi grew up hearing many different languages.
-In the corner of Atsushi’s wardrobe he has gifts and trinkets that the Agency have gifted to him. He treasures them all dearly.
-Atsushi likes to take naps during his break on slow days. Just curls up on the sofa under a patch of sunlight.
-On that, Atsushi struggles to sleep when he’s alone. It’s one of the reasons why Dazai had Kyouka stay with him. He feels safe knowing someone else is there with him.
-Atsushi plays with the longer parts of his hair when he’s nervous.
-Atsushi can’t lie for shit but if he will commit to the bit even if everyone knows he’s lying.
-Atsushi has a really high pain tolerance.
-Atsushi didn’t realise how bad his childhood was until the Agency took on a case getting a mother and her kids away from an abusive father.
He saw himself in their eyes and the headmaster in the fathers.
-Atsushi finds it calming to look at the moon. But he does get afraid to look at it when it’s full. As he’d fall into a trance and transform.
-Atsushi found it physically painful to lose his ability in Dead Apple.
-His most treasured possession is his Agency uniform as it’s the first thing that ever belonged to him.
-Atsushi doesn’t quite recall his parents clearly though he knows what they did to him. But unlike with the orphanage, Atsushi thinks he deserved it.
-His sass and cutthroat comments are partly a defence mechanism because for most of his life it was the only way Atsushi could fight back.
-Atsushi gets nightmares about what happened in 55 minutes and what could’ve happened had he had failed.
-When Atsushi hallucinates the best way for him to ground himself is by having some kind of weight put over on him like a blanket.
Or a coat.
-Atsushi was confused the first time Yosano wanted to give him a check up because no one’s ever cared if he was hurt before.
-Atsushi’s ability being able to reverse damage was often used against him. As kids could hurt him and not get in trouble as there was “no proof” they did anything.
So clearly Atsushi was lying.
-Atsushi would often see an orange cat when he was outside during chores. It kept him company and seemed quite intelligent.
-Atsushi chuffs when he’s happy and is very embarrassed about it.
-It took Atsushi a while to come to terms with the fact he’d killed a man (twice now) even if he knows it had to be done.
-Even after knowing the Agency doesnt run on a points system, Atsushi mentally assigns points to the tasks he completes. And takes them away when he fails.
-Atsushi still has Akutagawa’s coat in his dorm.

Also highkey all brothers are just the brothers karamazov thank you send post
#jkb.talk#thinking about the four main robins and what I know of them#Jason = dmitri. outside of the shallow comparisons of the anger both characters are angry at the father because they felt like they deserved#more. dmitri deserves not to have his inheritance stolen and to have his fathers respect. Jason deserves Bruce’s vengeance. neither got it#and dmitri too is going to experience a death (by means of Siberia)#Ivan = Tim for the intellectualism but also for the outside status in their own family. dick was a ward Jason was adopted Damian was born#and Tim blackmailed himself into the family. while not quite the same both are outsiders#alyosha = dick. universally beloved and as such held on such a high pedestal that no one really pays attention to other feelings#his anger is something to be surprised at. he is an angel. he’s sent to be everyone’s emotional and spiritual escape with no heed to his own#feelings. his father takes solace in loving him at least even if his father and his love are terrible things#pavel = Damian. raised differently from the others and his parentage is not one that others want to acknowledge. if you acknowledge his#mother you have to acknowledge how he was raised and why. you have to question how he was raised in the family#it would also be great because Ivan and pavel have the most direct interactions (antagonistic) and from what I see Tim and Damian have a#troubled relationship. this interpretation of pavel as Damian doesn’t really hold if you consider the progression of Damian being loved in#his family. however from what I’ve glanced of other runs writers lovee to make Damian live in an empty house with almost no one except maybe#Alfred. in which case the parallels are the same. the only difference is that Damian gets to at least have some relationships with others

I’m sure someone’s already headcannoned this, but Bruce having pet names for the Batkids? Man, those are his babies—you can bet your ass he has pet names for them. He might not be the type of man to show much affection beyond a shoulder pat or the occasional forehead kiss, but he’s determined to parent the crap outta these orphans, and pet names are an easier medium to show that he cares.
Dick is both “chum” and “sweetheart” depending on the context. When Bruce is feeling playful and comfortable (the easy, “your mine and I’m just happy to be here with you” kind of love), he’ll stick with “chum” and Dick absolutely loves it. But when Dick’s sick or has a nightmare or got injured during patrol? It’s sweetheart. It’s default mode for Bruce, because seeing Dick in pain brings up so many raw, intense emotions (Bruce gets scared, goddamit) that it’s easier for him to say “I’ve got you, sweetheart, it’s okay, just keep your eyes on mine,” then it is to say “I’m so terrified that I’m going to loose you, I love you, you’re my everything.”
Jason is“Jaylad.” But it’s less of the name that’s important and more of the story behind it that is. For the first few months that Jason was in Bruce’s care, Bruce didn’t dare call him anything other then his name, in fear that he’d scare him away (he was already so distrusting, so hesitant, so fearful whenever Bruce talked to loud or moved to fast or got upset), but at the same time, he’d seen how pleased Dick had been at being called “chum” and wanted to bestow a similar endearment on Jason. But—he didn’t want to go to far. So instead of calling him “lad” like his own father had once called him, Bruce calls him “Jaylad.” It’s a little more impersonal, but it makes Jason more comfortable. (But when Bruce cradled his son’s broken body he said “no, darling, not you, don’t leave me—” because just how Dick is “sweetheart,” Jason has also always been “darling.”)
For Tim… it’s more complicated. He shoved his way into Bruce’s life and he’s forever grateful, but it wasn’t the same as it was with Jason and Dick. He sees Tim as his son, of course, but their relationship was built on the darkest, most despairing part of Bruce’s life. But even in that terrible season, Bruce would look over at Tim working on a case or cleaning his suit and say, “Good job, sport.” It doesn’t happen often, but Tim is “sport.”
Cassandra is “love.” Bruce has never said it to her, aloud, but he knows Cass can read him well enough to hear the unspoken endearment, to see how much he longs to protect her, bring her joy, fill her heart with all the love she’s filled his with.
Steph is “duck.” And not necessarily because Bruce decided that it was, but because 9 times out of 10 he finds himself screaming, “Robin, get down!” because Stephanie will not for the love of God follow his orders, and end up right in the line of fire. To save time he eventually just started saying “Duck!” It keeps Steph from getting whacked to high heavens and saves Bruce (another) heart attack, but over the years it’s also become somewhat of a ritual to say “duck” whenever Steph walks in the room. Bruce secretly wants to call her “ducky” (which is what his mother called Kate), but he’s never worked up the nerve.
Duke is “kid.” By the time he’s in the family, Bruce has loosened up and lightened up, especially with everyday affection (which is to say, he’s not avoiding it like the plague). He’s quick to say “Good job, kid” whenever Duke had an accomplishment or ask “how are you today, kiddo?” when they see each other in passing in the Batcave.
Damian, lastly, would never allow Bruce to call him anything other then his name. But every once in a while, Bruce can get away with saying “son.” And it’s the best thing in the world.

Phantom Quits the Justice League
(This is my first post like this so there may be errors, sorry in advance. So I remember seeing some posts where the JL think and act like Danny is a meta. I was inspired to try to make my own.)
Danny is working with Justice League for a few weeks as a teenage hero and he’s had it with them. Danny’s had it with working with “Professional Hero’s”. Even though he is currently in the Watchtower in SPACE his blood boiling he is quitting today. He’ll just stay in Amity Park and only leave when necessary.
Danny see’s Batman walk around and Danny sees this as his opportunity. He flys up to Batman.
Danny: Batman!
Before Batman has a chance to respond.
Danny: I quit. I’m done. I can’t stand being in a place where people seem to think it’s okay to ask me a question then completely ignore me. I don’t know what everyone’s deal is but they act like they know every little detail about my life.
First Flash asked me about my powers and I told him I was in a lab accident and he just lectures me about lab safety and I should know better. He’s acting like I wanted it to happen. Like I didn’t intend for it to happen thats why it’s an accident.
Or when I’m working at a desk and I start floating then Green Lantern Hal gets on my case about using my powers unnecessarily. He didn’t even let me explain that my natural state is essentially zero gravity and that I have to concentrate to turn on and off gravities affect on me.
Don’t forget people get upset at me staring out at space. I get that I lose track of time because of it. But no one lets me explain that my second obsession is space and that fighting to fulfill it is dangerous for my health. If they do listen they just blow me off.
And I apparently need to just bottle all my emotions up otherwise my intangibility will start acting up and I either can’t hold things or I fall through the floor. I’m sorry I’m a teenager that doesn’t have a complete handle on his emotions. And that amazing, stealthy, deadly girl in all black bat costume. I just couldn’t help it when she said hello to me the other day, it made my heart beat at a regular pace. Ancients I just wis- would really like it if she would just punch me into next week…”
Danny stares in the distance before slowly realizing what he just said in front of Batman. The anger Danny had replaced by an awkward shyness as he slowly drops to the ground.
Danny: Here’s the league communicator and badge. I’m just gonna go back to Amity Park and never leave… ever.
After Danny left Batman standing there Black Bat, Nightwing, Red Robin and Robin come around the corner.
Nightwing: looks like Cass left the boy starstruc- (Nightwing dodges a kick from Black Bat).
Robin: This is no laughing matter Greyson. A mentally unstable individual who seems to want to be physically abused by Cassandra is expressing romantic feelings for her. Father, Drake surely you both see that this boy is unfit for her. (Robin dodges a punch to the head)
Red Robin: Not getting involved in that. B we still have to get to what was meant to be Phantoms evaluation meeting.
Batman: Hm

White Horse - Chapter 1: March 2023
Pairing: Max Verstappen x Isabelle Leclerc (Original Character)
Summary:
Max Verstappen is a World Champion. Isabelle Leclerc is invisible.
She watched her family give up everything for Charles’ career—Arthur’s karting, their father’s savings, even her childhood horse. She understood. She never asked for more.
But Max does. He notices the things no one else does, listens when no one else will, and puts her first in ways she never imagined. With him, she isn’t an afterthought—she’s a choice. And for the first time, she realizes she doesn’t have to be invisible.
Warnings and Notes:
....Do not expect particular quick updates on this, because it's a beast of a story. Also: kinda Charles bashing, but not really? You'll see.
As always big thanks to @llirawolf , who listens to me ramble

A Bar in Montecarlo:
Max had come to the bar for a quiet drink, not to get his world flipped upside down. But then he spotted her.
She was standing at the counter, waiting for her drink, all soft confidence and effortless elegance. The kind of woman who didn’t need to try to turn heads—she just did. And Max, never one to let an opportunity pass him by, slid up beside her with his most charming smirk and opened his mouth.
And because apparently, he had actually listened the last time Lando told him all about the absolutely horrible Pick-Up-Lines that he had tried with middling success…that was what came out of his mouth.
“Excuse me,” he said smoothly, “but do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again?”
She turned, amused—
And Max nearly choked.
Because he knew her.
His brain scrambled for a second before his mouth caught up. “Oh, shit. You’re Charles’ little sister.”
Her entire expression changed. The amusement faded, her jaw tightening. “Wow,” she deadpanned. “That’s one way to ruin a moment.”
Max grimaced. “That’s not what I—”
She picked up her drink and turned fully toward him, raising a brow. “I do have a name, you know.”
He nodded quickly, recovering. “Right. Isabelle.”
“Good job,” she said dryly. “Want a gold star?”
Max huffed out a laugh. “Look, I just wasn’t expecting you. I see a beautiful woman at a bar, and my instinct is to flirt. Then I realize she’s my colleague’s little sister, and I panic.”
Her lips twitched. “And?”
“And… I’m still going to flirt with you,” he admitted, grinning. “But properly this time.”
She tilted her head, intrigued. “Oh?”
Max leaned in slightly. “Can I buy you a drink, Isabelle?”
She pretended to consider. “That depends. Are you going to keep calling me Charles’ little sister?”
He placed a hand over his heart. “I solemnly swear never to utter those words again.”
Her lips curled in the slightest smirk. “In that case, sure. Let’s see if you can impress me, Verstappen.”
Max had never been one to back down from a challenge. And something told him this was a challenge he’d never want to walk away from.
Max flagged down the bartender, ordering another round for both of them. Isabelle took a slow sip of her drink, watching him over the rim of her glass like she was trying to decide if he was worth her time.
He liked that. Liked that she wasn’t falling over herself just because he was Max Verstappen.
“So,” he said, leaning against the bar, “what exactly would impress you?”
She hummed, tapping a finger against her glass. “A conversation that doesn’t involve my brothers.”
Max smirked. “That easy?”
“You’d be surprised how many people fail that test.”
He could imagine. Charles was everywhere in the racing world, and by extension, so was Isabelle. It must be exhausting, always being seen as an extension of someone else.
Max took the challenge seriously. “Alright,” he said, shifting toward her. “Tell me something about you that has nothing to do with your family.”
She studied him for a moment, like she was assessing if he was genuine. Then, after a beat, she said, “I work in architecture.”
Max blinked. “Really?”
She raised an eyebrow. “Why do you sound surprised?”
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “I guess I never thought about what you do.”
She smirked. “That’s because you’ve only ever seen me as Charles’ little sister.”
Max winced. “Okay, fair. But I’m interested now.”
“Are you?” She tilted her head, amusement flickering in her eyes. “I have heard your name at work before.”
Max frowned. “You have?”
“Oh, yeah,” Isabelle said, taking another sip of her drink. “Apparently, you’ve been house hunting. One of my colleagues nearly had a meltdown over the idea of designing a place for Max Verstappen.”
Max narrowed his eyes. “Wait… which project?”
She bit back a smile. “A penthouse. You toured it a few weeks ago.”
Max suddenly knew exactly which one she was talking about. He had liked the place, but something had held him back from committing.
Now, though?
Now, he was very seriously considering signing the papers just for an excuse to see her again.
He leaned in, watching her reaction closely. “And if I were to, say, buy that penthouse?”
She didn’t miss a beat. “Then I’d know you had good taste.”
Max grinned. “That’s it?”
She shrugged. “That, and I’d probably have to endure my colleagues freaking out for at least a week.”
He laughed, shaking his head. “Alright, then. Guess I have some decisions to make.”
Isabelle rolled her eyes, but he caught the way her lips twitched like she was fighting a smile.
Yeah. He was definitely buying that penthouse.
Max drummed his fingers against the bar, pretending to think. "Alright, so let’s say I do buy that penthouse. Hypothetically."
Isabelle gave him a knowing look. "Hypothetically."
"Would I get a personal consultation?"
She laughed, shaking her head. "That’s not how it works."
"But if I had, I don’t know, questions about the design, or maybe some concerns about the layout, I’d need someone to talk to, wouldn’t I?"
Isabelle swirled the last of her drink in her glass, watching him with an amused glint in her eyes. "Max, are you trying to say you need my number for professional reasons?"
He grinned, tilting his head. "I mean, what if I need an expert opinion? You are the only architect I know."
She sighed in mock exasperation, but he could tell she was entertained. "I really shouldn’t encourage this."
"But you want to," Max countered, smirking.
Her lips twitched, and after a moment’s pause, she reached into her bag and pulled out her phone. "Fine. Give me yours, I’ll text you."
Max typed in his number so fast that she actually laughed. She typed something in her phone.
A second later, his phone buzzed with a new message.
Unknown Number: Congratulations on your completely unbiased, definitely not suspicious real estate decision.
Max chuckled. "So, what happens if I text you about things that aren’t penthouse-related?"
Isabelle lifted her glass to her lips and said, before taking the last sip, "Guess we’ll find out."
And just like that, Max Verstappen knew he was completely screwed.

Text Messages: Isabelle Leclerc & Max Verstappen
(Unknown Number): Hey, it’s Max.
(Unknown Number): Verstappen.
(Unknown Number): Just in case you know a lot of Maxes.
Isabelle: I don’t.
Max: Good. Would hate to have competition already.
Isabelle: Already?
Max: What can I say? I like you.
Isabelle: You barely know me.
Max: That’s true. But I’d like to change that.
Isabelle: …That was smooth.
Max: Was it?
Isabelle: Surprisingly, yes.
Max: Noted. I’ll add it to my very short list of smooth moments.
Isabelle: Very short?
Max: Tragically short.
Isabelle: I don’t know if I believe that.
Max: I promise, my sister would confirm it.
Isabelle: You have a sister?
Max: Victoria.
Isabelle: Right, I think I’ve seen her before.
Max: Probably. She’d probably like you, by the way.
Isabelle: Oh?
Max: Yeah. She has a good instinct about people.
Isabelle: And what does your instinct say?
Max: That I really, really want to see you again.
Isabelle: You’re very direct, aren’t you?
Max: Is that a bad thing?
Isabelle: No. Just… unexpected.
Max: Well, I can be subtle too.
Isabelle: Can you?
Max: Definitely. For example, I could subtly ask what you’re doing tomorrow night.
Isabelle: …Very subtle.
Max: Thank you. So?
Isabelle: I might be free.
Max: Good. Then I’ll subtly ask if you’d like to have dinner with me.
Isabelle: Are you always like this?
Max: Only when I really like someone.
Isabelle: …Dinner sounds nice.
Max: Perfect. I’ll send you the details.
Isabelle: Looking forward to it.
Max: Me too.

Max: I met someone.
Victoria: …Okay?
Max: And I think I’m in love.
Victoria: MAX.
Victoria: You literally just met her??
Max: Yes.
Victoria: And you think you’re in love?
Max: Yes.
Victoria: Oh my god.
Victoria: Max.
Victoria: WHAT.
Victoria: HOW.
Victoria: WHY.
Max: I don’t know, Vic. I just know. I met her tonight and I just…I just know.
Victoria: You’ve known her for one night.
Max: Yes.
Victoria: Max.
Max: Vic.
Victoria: Oh my god, you’re serious.
Max: Very.
Victoria: You’re actually gone for her already.
Max: Completely.
Victoria: …Okay.
Max: Okay?
Victoria: Yeah.
Victoria: I mean, I think you’re insane, but if anyone deserves to fall stupidly, recklessly in love, it’s you.
Max: …Thanks, Vic.
Victoria: You deserve to be loved, Max.
Victoria: For who you are. Not because you’re Max Verstappen, two-time world champion, but just because you’re you.
Max: …
Max: I think she sees me that way.
Victoria: Then hold onto her.
Max: I plan to.
Victoria: Is that why you’re texting me at midnight like a lunatic?
Max: …I may have also just bought that penthouse.
Victoria: MAX.
Victoria: YOU HAVE BEEN UNDECIDED ABOUT THAT PENTHOUSE FOR MONTHS.
Victoria: AND NOW YOU MEET A GIRL AND SUDDENLY YOU’RE BUYING IT???
Max: Her architecture firm is working on it.
Victoria: This is why people say Libras are intense.
Max: That’s astrology nonsense.
Victoria: SAYS THE MAN PLANNING A WHOLE FUTURE AFTER ONE CONVERSATION.
Max: I have a good feeling about it.
Victoria: MAX.
Max: What? You just said I deserve to be loved.
Victoria: YES, BUT I DIDN’T THINK YOU’D LOSE YOUR ENTIRE MIND OVER IT.
Max: Too late.
Victoria: Oh my god.
Victoria: You are actually the most ridiculous person alive.
Victoria: But if she makes you happy… then I’m happy for you.
Max: She does.
Victoria: Then that’s all that matters.

Isabelle: Emergency. Crisis. Disaster.
Emilie: That’s a lot of words. What happened?
Isabelle: I have a date.
Emilie: And that’s a disaster because…?
Isabelle: Because it’s with Max Verstappen.
Emilie: …
Emilie: I’m going to need a second.
Emilie:
Emilie:
Emilie:
Emilie: Okay, I’m back. WHAT???
Isabelle: We met at a bar. He asked me out. I said yes. And now I don’t know what to wear. Focus. Help.
Emilie: We met at a bar, he asked me out, I said yes—DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF???
Isabelle: EMILIE. FOCUS. OUTFIT.
Emilie: Right. Okay. Where is he taking you?
Isabelle: Some fancy restaurant. Not too fancy, but still expensive.
Emilie: God, of course. Okay. Simple but elegant. A dress that makes it look like you didn’t try too hard, even though you absolutely did.
Isabelle: Black dress?
Emilie: Obviously. And heels. You own some ridiculous ones. Wear those.
Isabelle: You are suspiciously good at this.
Emilie: Because I have taste. Now, more importantly—DO YOUR BROTHERS KNOW??
Isabelle: …
Emilie: Isabelle.
Isabelle: No, they do not.
Emilie: WHY NOT???
Isabelle: Because I don’t want to deal with it.
Emilie: You are dating CHARLES LECLERC’S BIGGEST RIVAL. YOU DON’T THINK THAT’S WORTH MENTIONING???
Isabelle: One date does not mean I’m dating him.
Emilie: YET.
Isabelle: I don’t think Charles would care.
Emilie: …That is the saddest sentence I have ever read.
Emilie: You don’t think Charles would care.
Isabelle: No.
Emilie: Are we talking about the same man??? The one who holds grudges against people for bad karting races from 15 years ago??
Isabelle: I am saying that I am basically invisible in my family, and therefore, he will not care.
Emilie: THAT IS SO DEPRESSING.
Isabelle: It’s just reality.
Emilie: No, it’s tragic. And when Charles inevitably does care, I am going to be so smug about it.
Isabelle: He won’t.
Emilie: He will. And when he finds out from Twitter instead of you, I am going to remind you forever that I was right.
Isabelle: Fine. If he does, I will buy you dinner.
Emilie: And?
Isabelle: And I will admit you were right.
Emilie: Good girl. But first, we need to make sure Max Verstappen is absolutely floored when he sees you tonight. Let’s pick out your dress.

Max: HELP.
Max: I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO WEAR.
Victoria: Oh my god.
Max: I’m serious, Vic. This is important.
Victoria: It’s one date.
Max: Exactly! First impressions matter. What if I wear something stupid?
Victoria: You wear team merch 90% of the time, so that’s a real possibility.
Max: NOT HELPING.
Victoria: Okay, okay. Where are you taking her?
Max: Nice restaurant. Fancy-ish but not too fancy.
Victoria: Alright. Dark jeans, nice shirt, jacket. Clean shoes.
Max: That’s it???
Victoria: Yes, you’re not walking a red carpet, Max.
Max: What if she thinks it’s boring?
Victoria: If she’s going out with you, she probably already knows you’re a little fashion-challenged.
Max: Wow.
Victoria: I’m just saying, if she agreed to a date, she clearly likes you. Just wear something that fits and isn’t Red Bull merch.
Max: I feel like you’re underestimating the stress of this situation.
Victoria: I feel like you’re underestimating the fact that she already said yes.
Max: …Good point.
Victoria: Obviously. Now go find a shirt that isn’t a team polo and try not to overthink it.
Max: No promises.
Victoria: You’re impossible.
Max: And yet, you still love me.
Victoria: Unfortunately. Now go. And don’t text me from the restaurant freaking out.
Max: No guarantees.

Emilie: Well????
Isabelle: Well, what?
Emilie: Isabelle. Do not play dumb with me. How did the date go??
Isabelle: …It was really nice.
Emilie: THAT’S ALL YOU’RE GIVING ME?
Emilie: I want DETAILS. Did he show up looking stupidly handsome? Was he nice? Did he make you laugh? Did you kiss him??
Isabelle: Yes, yes, yes, and Yes.
Emilie: YES??
Isabelle: I kissed him.
Emilie: !!!!!
Emilie: Details. Now.
Isabelle: It was after our date. He walked me to my door, and I just… kissed him.
Emilie: You just kissed him?? Who are you and what have you done with my overthinking best friend??
Isabelle: Shut up. I didn’t even think about it. I just did it.
Emilie: And???
Isabelle: And then he kissed me back.
Emilie: …That better not be the end of the story.
Isabelle: It was soft. And slow. And he cupped my face like I was something precious.
Emilie: Isabelle.
Emilie: Isabelle, my love. My dearest best friend.
Emilie: You’re done for.
Isabelle: … I know.
Emilie: And how did he look after?
Isabelle: Like he was trying very hard not to kiss me again.
Emilie: Oh, you’re so doomed.
Isabelle: I know.
Emilie: Tell me everything.
Isabelle: He was already at the restaurant when I got there, which was sweet. He pulled out my chair for me. He was nervous, which was insane to me because, you know, he’s Max Verstappen.
Emilie: Boy has driven through Eau Rouge at full speed, but a girl makes him nervous. I love this.
Isabelle: He kept looking at me like I was the most interesting person in the world. Like he actually wanted to hear everything I had to say.
Emilie: I love him already.
Isabelle: You love him?? Emilie, I might actually be in trouble here.
Emilie: Uh oh.
Isabelle: …He sent me flowers.
Emilie: WHAT.
Emilie: When???
Isabelle: They just got delivered.
Emilie: EXCUSE ME.
Emilie: You go on ONE date with Max Verstappen and wake up to FLOWERS???
Isabelle: Apparently.
Emilie: What kind?
Isabelle: Peonies.
Emilie: Belle.
Emilie: He is so in love with you.
Isabelle: It was one date.
Emilie: AND???
Emilie: The man sent you flowers the morning after like he’s starring in a romance novel.
Isabelle: Maybe he just does that?
Emilie: Girl. Be serious.
Emilie: Did he say anything with them?
Isabelle: There was a note.
Emilie: AND???
Isabelle: It just says ‘Last night was perfect. Can’t wait to see you again. – Max’
Emilie: I’M GONNA SCREAM.
Emilie: Max Verstappen is courting you.
Isabelle: Courting is a strong word.
Emilie: He sent you flowers. He is so gone for you.
Isabelle: …Maybe.
Emilie: So… second date?
Isabelle: Saturday.
Emilie: GIRL.
Isabelle: I know.

Sophie: So when do I get to meet her?

Sophie: That’s what I thought.
Max: It’s a very nice penthouse.
Sophie: Of course it is.
Max: So you’re not going to say I’m insane?

Max: Hey, if I were to ask for date advice, purely hypothetically…
Victoria: Oh my God.
Max: What?
Victoria: You NEVER ask for advice. This must be serious.
Max: It’s not that serious.
Victoria: You literally bought an apartment because of this girl.
Max: …That’s unrelated.
Victoria: Sure it is.
Max: So… hypothetically… if I needed some guidance, what would you suggest?
Victoria: Are you actually asking for advice, or are you just hoping I’ll make it easier for you by giving you a list of things not to do?
Max: ...
Victoria: That’s what I thought. Give me a second.
Victoria: Okay, here’s your DO NOT list:
Do not talk about tire degradation.
Do not mention iRacing, no matter how good your last stint was.
Do not wear a Red Bull hoodie.
Do not check F1 news during the date.
Do not turn the date into a competition.
Do not text me mid-date if you panic. Figure it out.
Do not propose.
Max: …That last one was unnecessary.
Victoria: I’m just covering all bases.
Max: I wasn’t going to propose.
Victoria: Good. Then this should be easy for you.
Max: The Red Bull hoodie rule feels unfair.
Victoria: Max.
Max: Fine. No Red Bull hoodie.
Victoria: Thank you.

Victoria: Max.
Max: Alright, alright. No cap.
Victoria: Proud of you. Now, go be normal.

GP: Where?! When?! How long has this been going on?!
Max: A few days.
GP: And Charles doesn’t know???
Max: I don’t think he notices much about her.
GP: Okay, that’s a whole other issue, but back to you.
GP: Do you have any self-preservation instincts?
Max: She’s nice. I like her.
GP: THAT IS NOT THE POINT.
GP: Do you realize the incident this could cause?
Max: If I wanted overreactions, I’d have texted Victoria.
GP: I AM REACTING APPROPRIATELY.
GP: What does Victoria think?
Max: She said, "You deserve to be loved."
GP: …Well, that’s suspiciously sentimental.
GP: But also, Charles is still going to kill you.
Max: You’re being dramatic.
GP: AM I?
Max: Are you helping or not?
GP: I AM TOO BUSY PROCESSING YOUR TERRIBLE LIFE CHOICES.
GP: Okay. Okay. Deep breaths. Let’s focus.
GP: You need a second date idea.
GP: That does not result in Charles Leclerc murdering you.
Max: I think you’re overestimating how much he pays attention to her.
GP: That’s between them. I am concerned for you.
Max: You’re being dramatic again.
GP: No, I’m being realistic.
Max: …I’ll deal with that when it happens.
GP: Unbelievable.
GP: Alright. Date ideas.
GP: What did you do for the first one?
Max: Dinner. Talked a lot.
GP: What does she like?
Max: Horses.
GP: Horses.
GP: You’re dating someone who likes horses.
Max: Yes?
GP: I feel like that’s relevant information I should’ve had sooner.
GP: Have you ever been near a horse, Max?
Max: Not really.
GP: Okay, no horse-related dates yet. You will get yourself killed trying to impress her.
Max: She’d find that funny.
GP: I wouldn’t.
GP: Let’s keep it simple. Somewhere quiet. Private. Where you can talk.
Max: I was thinking that too.
GP: What about a picnic?
Max: A picnic.
GP: Yeah. You get some good food, go somewhere nice, and just relax. No stress.
Max: Where am I supposed to find a picnic spot?
GP: You have a balcony, Max.
GP: You literally have a balcony with a view.
GP: Just set something up there.
Max: …That’s actually not a bad idea.
GP: Wow. Praise from the great Max Verstappen. I’m honored.
Max: Don’t get used to it.
GP: Okay, what kind of food does she like?
Max: She ordered pasta on our first date.
GP: That’s a start. You could order from the same place.
Max: Or I could cook.
GP: You could what?
Max: I can cook, GP.
GP: Since when?
Max: Since I lived alone?
GP: Okay, sure. But can you cook something that won’t poison her?
Max: Wow. Faith in me is at an all-time low.
GP: Just making sure she survives the night.
Max: I’ll make pasta. It’s simple.
GP: Fine. But don’t experiment. Stick to what you know.
Max: What do you think I’m going to do? Try molecular gastronomy?
GP: I wouldn’t put it past you.
GP: Okay, what else… You need drinks. Dessert.
Max: She likes red wine.
GP: Get a good wine, then. And dessert?
Max: She mentioned liking raspberries once.
GP: So get her something with raspberries.
Max: Got it.
GP: And what about ambiance?
Max: …
GP: Max.
Max: What?
GP: Do you even own candles?
Max: …Victoria gave me some once.
GP: Use them.
GP: And put some effort into setting the table.
GP: You know, for someone who acts like they don’t care about romance, you’re actually putting effort into this.
Max: …She’s worth the effort.
GP:
GP: Damn.
GP: Okay.
GP: You have to survive Charles finding out.
Max: I told you. I’ll handle it.
GP: Yeah, yeah. Just keep me updated.

sonadow fankid blast 💥 meet Breaker! his twin is up next 🕺
primarily takes after Sonic, taking over the day shift of watching Green Hills and the 'hero' mantle. beloved face. helps grandmas across the street. avid errand runner. has helpful big brother/camp counselor vibes!
🌖 At first I named him Breaker as a shorthand for 'daybreak' (his twin being named Dusk) and thought it was stupid (bc Sonic would name his kid something stupid) but the more i thought about it.. the more it worked.. windbreaker…. circuit breaker…a breaker being a heavy sea wave connecting to Sonic's fear of water..breaks/brakes… mm wordplay
very aloof! enjoys life. loves hiking. he loves anything with a good view. prefers to take it a day at a time, if given the choice. has a curiosity and interest in the powers and skills of others he's incredibly strong w/ powers including electricity + Chaos Control/time-space manipulation (and still wearing limiters)
he is extremely tactical with when and how he uses Chaos Control. With new opponents Breaker wouldn't use his Chaos Control, relying on speed and fistpower. If he did, he'd make it seem that he was just extremely fast getting places, using the shadows of his opponent and surrounding environment to slip between places
ever since he was a little, Breaker’s always come out on top. he’s always looked up to heroes, naturally- after all both their fathers were. and he’s settled into the role quite nicely, one of Green Hills’ very own, and just as beloved. all the townsfolk know him, all the women fawn over him, a true bonafide role model. But even his twin brother Dusk wonders/isn't sure if thats really what he wants or if its simply a role he’s acclimated to.
Breaker has a bit of an iceberg to his character. Most people see the very top layer, what they see day-to-day of the young aloof Mobian heralded as "Sonic and Shadow's son". there's something else that goes on beneath..
his powers essentially distort him from living the same wavelength as others. Like that moment in Sonic Prime where Sonic is going so fast, time has essentially stopped for everyone else. Tapping into this power has led him to believe he is invincible in ways, but not entirely. he enjoys all the scuffs, he enjoys what life has to throw him, his friends, etc. It keeps him grounded. as a result, he has a curiosity when he finally gets to dance with danger one-on-one like the average Mobian. he appreciates any opportunity to throw himself into dangerous situations because he enjoys the thrill of possibly getting hurt, as the pain allows him to feel 'mortal'.
One of his core principals is that he doesn’t want people hurt. He wants people safe. But sometimes it's unsure if thats the case or if its because he wants other people out of his way so he can set the stage between just him and his opponent.. and thus, minimize the collateral damage/cleanup.
He is rather tactical outside of battle too and does especially well in social settings. he already has the chops for it, being charismatic from the getgo, but he knows how to set people/things/his environment up in ways that would allow him to get to that final push for things to go his way without anyone being aware he had pulled any strings at all. he is incredibly observant, always picking up on the finer details. his hobby for people watching both comes in clutch as a both hobby he truly enjoys and something that could help him in future instances.
Whether Breaker wants to admit it or not, he cares about his image. Although his swagger is already quite effortless, he cares how the townsfolk perceive him, not just for the sake of vanity or narcissism but because he understands that people need an idol- they need guidance. That's what his dad was, and that's what he's for. It's what the stars were here for-- people had to look up somewhere for answers. He understands that he is something like a guiding light, a north star- but if they choose to refuse him, it's no skin off his back bc that’s their choice. He doesn't interfere with the choices people decide to make for themselves.
Breaker is a weird paradox character. where he's direct and very upfront, he is also so incredibly indirect about stuff too. Bro's always contradicting himself which makes it very hard for anyone to really pinpoint just what he's thinking beyond what they might know from the "hero" image he shows off.
Being good is a choice for him. But it's a choice he doesn't think about and something he's trained himself to wholeheartedly believe is instinct, as he doesn't believe himself to be a bad guy (and he isn't!) But it's like making a lie real and true.
Breaker, like his brother, has his own brand of isolation. Because of his powers, he lives on a different wavelength to other people. Always looking things through a window. He can look close enough to pretend the glass isn't there, that he's with there with everyone else, but there still exists that separation. So he chases after whatever makes him feel 'alive' and in the moment with everyone else.

I think the Batkids reaction to a Bruce who isn't de-aged to 8 but rather 29 (pre-Jason death, post his adoption) would be fascinating.
Their reaction would vary wildly:
Dick: Oh. Bruce is soft again. Bruce calls them ‘chum’ and ‘buddy’ and gives head pats for no reason. He still isn’t perfect, his communication skills are still a work in progress, but compared to his future self? Without actively dying Dick is hugged plenty. Bruce asks him to go to the zoo, unrelated to any case, just to spend time together. Dick is hit with more nostalgia and longing for the past than he knows what to do with.
Also notable: his dad is younger than him. That is something. Second, holy existential crisis Batman, his dad is younger than him and already one adult and one teenage kid??? Dick is not ready to feel this old yet. Third, Dick has absolutely no idea how Bruce managed to stay patient through his no-pants years. He is going to thank reason every day from now on that Damian wears full protection.
Jason: After his death and League he clung to an image of Bruce. One many tried to beat out of him, but he still kept it somewhere close to his heart, buried deep enough even he couldn’t see it. When he came back Bruce wasn’t like this idea of him. How stupid of him to believe the mind of a traumatized kid. Trying to create one good thing before the kid drew his last breath. Making up memories that never even existed.
But they did. Every smile and hug and even his words reflect the image tugged safely against his still-beating heart. His dad very clearly, very deeply loves him. Which is so much worse. Because he can understand why a Bruce, who never cared, didn’t kill the Joker. But he cares. So why the fuck did he not kill the Joker?
Tim: The reason he joined the family, the reason why he became Robin in the first place was because he saw a problem when Bruce started self-destructing and thought ‘Someone needs to fix that!’. Therefore he went and collected Dick, who didn’t seem keen on fixing it. So, the job fell to him to fix it.
He thought he did a good job, he thought he fixed the problem. Except now he sees who Bruce was, and he knows he failed. Their Bruce is less soft, less affectionate, less like he was before. Batman needs a Robin and Tim didn’t manage to be good enough of one to save him.
[Or: Tim has a guilt complex a hundred miles wide and blames himself for things that aren’t his fault part 52]
Steph: Jason and she are very similar. Both come from the Narrows, both have a mother addicted to drugs and a shitty father. The differences start when Steph keeps waiting on the roof of their apartment for Batman to whisk her away, while Jason tries to steal the tires of the Batmobile and is taken in.
When Steph started out as Spoiler Bruce tried to keep her off the field, and obviously this one would too (even if he would probably be less paranoid about it), but she knows this Bruce would have also taken her in. This Bruce would be the father she always wished for when she sat on their roof and couldn’t see any stars.
And she didn’t get to have this because Jason went ahead and died. (Of course, she knows she isn’t fair to the guy. Dying isn’t fun… And she knows the only reason she lived is because he died. When Batman rescued her from Black Mask she was in such terrible shape that Leslie managed to convince the World’s Greatest Detective that she died. If Jason hadn’t died Bruce wouldn’t have been as paranoid, wouldn’t have noticed her missing so soon, wouldn’t have been as urgent in his response. Would have been just a minute slower, a minute which would have killed her. Just as it had Jason.)
For her, this Bruce is a distorted mirror into a past which never was.
Cass: This Bruce and B are not the same person. They don’t move the same. In a fight, this Bruce is younger, faster, stronger. Doesn’t compensate for a previously broken spine. Less experienced. Still one of the most experienced she knows, but less.
He still moves differently, outside a fight, less pain. More likely to engage in physical affection, more likely to hug and pat and talk. He talks more than B. B knows what she means without words. This Bruce doesn’t.
She likes this Bruce, warmth, and softness. But not as much as B. He knows what she means, when she wants a hug, when she tells him ‘I love you’ without words. B doesn’t need words. This Bruce doesn’t know her, doesn’t communicate like her. She wants B back.
Damian: At first, when this version of his father seemed uncanny and oddly familiar, he assumed it to be due to the stories of his mother. After all, she always told him tales about his father. He simply did not have the frame of reference to understand the kindness she spoke of. Clearly, the clash between the ideals of the League and the ones of his father causes these feelings, just as they did when he first entered the manor.
He presumed this to be the case until one day on patrol Batman laid a hand on his shoulder and told him he did a good job after no particularly impressive fight and he nearly called him ‘Grayson’. Because the stories of his mother may have painted the picture of this version of his father, however, it wasn’t what made it familiar; no, he knew this kindness. These hugs and compliments one would bestow upon a child. Compliments which, despite the indignity, still warm him. Because Grayson learned how to be a… caregiver from his father.
His father used to be like Grayson, used to be until his grief hardened him. Damian could have had this. Damian could have a brother and father who would- But he doesn’t because of Todd. He loathes Todd. Loathes him for ruining the life he could have had.
Why did he die anyway? Damian certainly wouldn’t have a problem escaping bonds created by the Joker, Damian would have disarmed the bomb in time, Damian would have never thrown this life away like he did.
[Or: Damian is a child who was raised by assassins and has unreasonable standards for fighting abilities and also is a child who needs to focus his rage on someone.]
Duke: He was neither there before Jason died nor in the aftermath [according to my math he was around 4 when Jason died] he joined the family when Jason was already back for 4 years or so. He mostly skipped all the drama. For him, Bruce is the way Bruce is because he is Bruce. It’s weird to see him so different, to see how grief shaped parts of Bruce which Duke assumed were just Bruce things.
He’s glad this Bruce is brighter, or not because it just highlights how much that light will dim? Who knows, certainly not him.
What he does know is that, with their Bruce, he has a distance which, with his parents still alive, he appreciates. With this Bruce, he can understand why Dick struggled so much whether he wants to be his ward or son, how he doesn’t want to replace his parents but still have this Bruce as a dad. It definitely explained the ted talk Dick tried to give him after Bruce officially took him in as a ward.
He likes this Bruce well enough, but he doesn’t necessarily want him to stay this way. Yes, their Bruce is less happy, less open but he did heal, he did grow. Duke met a Bruce who tried to learn from his mistakes, learned to communicate better, and learned when to pull and when to push. For Tim, Damian, Dick, and certainly Jason there is too much baggage, too much history in their relationships, it’s difficult for them to ever move past- anything really.
Sure, when Dick and Bruce are on the same page they are essentially invincible but then the past catches up again and they don’t talk to each other for months. And honestly? Apart from Cass, Duke’s pretty sure he has one of the best relationships with Bruce simply because he got to know him at a better time.
Duke doesn’t mind this Bruce. But their Bruce loved Jason, cared for him so deeply the scars still show to this day. And he still chooses to open up again even if just a bit by bit. Even if just Duke can see it. He is used to being the only one that can see.
And maybe knowing this care extends to him, this love even grief can’t shake? Maybe it makes him feel just a little bit safer, a little bit warmer, a little bit brighter.
#Anyway Alfred is just very sad.#Also i like to believe Bruce learned from each of his kids#just that Dick wanted space and Jason closeness#Tim just wanted Bruce to be more careful and steph wanted him to do more#and bruce kind of tried to learn and then applied the thing that would have been amazing for one kid for another who hates it#by now he kind of gets that one solution isn't going to work for all his kids.#but his relationships are already strained#bruce wayne#jason todd#cassandra cain#dick grayson#tim drake#damian wayne#duke thomas#batfam#batfamily#stephanie brown#batdad#de aging#fic ideas#batman#i have thoughts on Steph & Jason parallels#most of them come from writers not caring about steph but still#that makes them even more interesting to me

you are in love.
ft; itoshi rin, michael kaiser
synopsis: the small action that suddenly make them realize that it’s not just a temporary feeling of romantic fondness, it’s ever-lasting love.
a/n: title named after the taylor swift 1989 song!!! it’s genuinely such a cute song and i love it so much🥹💕 also, all of them are already dating reader in this one, it’s just that they all think that it’s just some temporary relationship that’ll last like 6 months before it’s off…until the events of this shortfic.
———
itoshi rin realizes that he is in love when he stays in bed for extra time with you when you had slept over.
his schedule is always meticulously planned out every second of the day to perfect and hone his skills for soccer; meditate, stretch, open the window for some fresh air, etc,…and the only things on his mind when he does so are his brother and soccer. his parents aren’t aware that rin isn’t on good terms with his brother (well, one sidedly, but rin doesn’t know that), so they only believe that rin is extremely ambitious.
but after a particularly long study session with you on saturday night, you beg rin to let you stay over. he declined at first, although after your offering of taking him out to ochazuke and also the fact that you were his girlfriend, he accepted in defeat.
rin still has his nightly routine, so he leaves you in his bedroom alone. bad decision, because the moment he leaves, you’re climbing into his bed and pulling the covers over your head. within 15 minutes, you’re out cold. rin comes back 10 minutes later, and to his surprise, he’s not irritated in the least when he sees you and snuggled up on his bed. instead he feels…strangely happy?
after brushing his teeth and changing into his pajamas, he decides to not push you off of the bed and instead climb into with you.
the next morning, rin wakes up at his regular time of 6:58. usually, after lying in bed for 2 more minutes to become more awake, rin would get out of bed at 7:00. but that’s not the case this time; your arms are wrapped around him tightly and clinging onto him like a lifeline. rin’s eyes linger on you—your messy bed head, the drool at the corner of your lips, and the incoherent mumbling.
and rin laughs.
it’s not loud or extremely attention grabbing, but it’s perfect. clear and expressive, and his laugh is purer than any melody and more beautiful than any symphony. it’s quiet, and only rin heard himself. he stops quickly as he brings up his shirt to the corner of your mouth to wipe the drool off like his brother did when rin was smaller, a tiny smile on rin’s lips the entire time.
and when rin checks his watch, it’s 7:01. but he doesn’t panic, instead, he wraps his arms around you as you had done with him and lied with you just a bit longer, until you would wake up.
rin has never been a particularly religious person, but at this moment, when you’re objectively at your lowest, with messy hair and previously drooling and sleep talking and clinging to your boyfriend like a koala, rin wonders what he’s done to be so blessed, and he thinks about all of those things he’s heard about heaven. heaven is paradise, a place of peace, love, and joy.
so wouldn’t that make you heaven then?
(when you finally wake up and rin checks his watch, it’s already 9:28. you’re shocked to see rin not at all mad at you for making him sleep in until so late.)
———
michael kaiser realizes that he is in love when he doesn’t slap you away when you touch his neck.
kaiser has never had good experiences whenever someone’s hands were on his neck. this had especially stemmed from his childhood, when his father’s hands would be on his neck daily and pressing down so harshly that kaiser couldn’t even breathe. and then it was the paparazzi, who were sometimes so intrusive that they would touch him just for content. it’s still a commonly mentioned scandal in the soccer community of kaiser nearly beating up a paparazzi who had touched his tattoo without consent and just for the sake of it.
even with you, his own childhood best friend and girlfriend, the only pillar stabilizing him in this dreadful life, kaiser still felt nauseous and unable to breathe if your fingertips would even accidentally graze his neck. you would always apologize profusely afterwards, so the nausea wasn’t nearly as bad with you as it was with anyone else.
even during intercourse, kaiser doesn’t put his hands on your neck. he knows that you’re fine with it and you don’t care, but if he ever does, kaiser knows that his actions will only make him more like his father.
and one night, after a long day for the both of you—practice for kaiser, college for you—you’re both sitting in the living room of your shared apartment, lights off, tv on, and watching titanic (“i did not cry when we watched it last time!” got a laugh out of kaiser, he literally got a recording of you starting to bawl during jack’s death), your hand is interlocked with kaiser’s leaning on his body while watching.
you’re gently tracing the crown tattoo on his hand, bringing it up to your lips and kissing it. kaiser feels the tip of his ears burn, although he was used to the feeling. you do these sorts of small little gestures all the time; although these days, kaiser can’t help but notice you constantly linger your eyes on his tattoo on his neck. he can tell that you want to touch it—but you’re too hesitant.
and kaiser wants to test out something.
slowly, kaiser takes his hand away from your mouth—albeit keeping your fingers laced together—and brings your hand up to his neck, though not touching skin quite yet.
your eyebrows shoot up before your eyes soften in worry. “mihya, you don’t have to if you don’t like it. i don’t want to make you uncomfortable or anything
now, on the field, kaiser is the emperor. he rules. when he wants something, he gets it. if he wants a goal, he’ll score it, one way or another. and right now, he wants to see if he’s still scared of you touching his neck. if he is, then oh well. if he’s not, then that confirms it for him.
with kaiser’s determined nod of approval, you gently graze his tattoo before placing your hand fully on the side of his neck, thumb gently moving back and forth on the blue petals of his rose tattoo.
and then kaiser’s kissing you, his lips cold but his face and hands warm.
because this time, there was no nausea. there was no tears. there was no air shortage.
this time, there was only love.
(funny, because the moment he kissed you was also the moment that the iconic ‘titanic pose’ was on screen and jack and rose had also kissed right after. you swore that it was fate, and although kaiser outwardly disagreed, inwardly, he was just as much of a firm believer that it was fate as you were.)
———
sorry this one was lowkey kinda short…i crammed this in in like 50 ish minutes lmao
but anyways i find it so funny how it’s canonically confirmed that sae doesn’t even realize that him and rin are beefing…their interactions in the u20 make so much more sense now. and i know that it’s never been mentioned, but the itoshi parents gotta at least know SOMETHING about their (one sided) beef, right? i mean, if one of your kids is literally gritting his teeth and clenching his fists if he even hears something about your other kid, then you gotta at least know that SOMETHING is going on.
also did you know that kaiser’s red eyeliner is actually a tattoo (kaneshiro confirmed it in an interview)

❝ temptation.❞ elias ‘stack’ moore x black!fem oc

ooo. 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔… modern!au, tension, flirting, cunnilingus (cause every man in this movie is a muncher!) black!fem oc, explicit sexual content.
ooo. 𝒔𝒚𝒏𝒐𝒑𝒔𝒊𝒔… where a good girl falls into temptation after she meets elias ‘stack’ moore.
ooo. 𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒔… soooo i wanted to try something different and do a modern!au with stack. (smoke’s still my favorite twin. the real girlies get it!) but i wanted to challenge myself a bit here.. this idea honestly came out of nowhere. i opened a03 and just started typing and somewhere down the line it became a one shot with 5k+ words?? 😭 also just wanted to say tysm for all of the love on my other fics. smoke and annie are near and dear to my heart and i’m glad you guys enjoyed my interpretations/writings for them. just a fair warning, the girl in this is very unserious but who wouldn’t be if you saw a vampire that looked like mbj! requests are open so send in something if you’d like — just keep in mind of my rules. anyway. likes, reblogs and comments are appreciated! ◡̈
“he’s dangerous. if you had any common sense you’d stay away from him.” their words seemed portent at first; a precautionary warning that had her wary of him. she didn’t know him but she’s heard enough stories about him to know that he was feared by everyone. his reputation was something akin of their town’s own boogeyman or freddy kreuger — he was dangerous, menacing and someone to be fearful of.
cleo hadn’t been in town long enough to know if his reputation superseded him or if the rumor’s held some weight of validity in them but her curiosity was piqued to meet the guy that had people hurriedly locking their doors when the sun went down and removing the welcome mats off of their front porches.
at first, she wondered if everyone in town had collectively decided to pull a prank on her as some sort of initiation or simply for their own amusement. because to her elias moore seemed more like a ghost than a vampire. she lurked outside after hours, even against their warnings — completely foolish and naive, but she never saw him around.
she doesn’t know why she wants to see him so bad, maybe it’s because everyone else has and she feels strangely left out. or maybe it’s because she needs to see for herself if there was a world where mythical creatures existed outside of the cheesy television shows she used to watch and the books that she read. but much to her dismayed defeat, time continued on with her being the only one who had yet to meet the feared elias moore.
“what does he look like?” she asked, feigning innocence behind her curiosity that her best friend, naomi easily sees through and narrows a pointed glare at her. “what? i just want to know in case i see him around somewhere!” she murmurs with a halfhearted shrug. it didn’t seem like an actual possibility with how she hadn’t so far, but she didn’t want naomi to know that she was willingly seeking him out.
naomi sighs, pursing her lips as she tapped her manicured fingers against her thigh. after a moment’s contemplation, she reveals: “i’ve only seen him around a few times. he doesn’t look like any of those sick looking vampire that you see on tv. he’s actually…fine.” at this, cleo’s eyebrows raise in amusement at her friend’s description. “he has this look about him that makes you weak in the knees whenever he smiles at you. it’s effortlessly sexy and his eyes — just don’t look in them too long cause you’re gonna find yourself wanting him to turn you into a vampire too just so you can spend the rest of eternity with him. i’m only telling you this because you asked, but don’t go around asking anyone else about him. you don’t want your daddy finding out about it.”
cleo nodded in agreement, but still found her mind wandering about him. she knows that naomi’s right, her overly religious father would have an aneurysm if he’d found out that she was asking questions about the town’s social pariah. but that didn’t stop her from visualizing him through naomi’s description.
she’s only ever heard of naomi speaking negatively about elias so for her to refer to him as fine despite her disliking of him had intrigued cleo. “yeah, you’re right. i was just curious but now i know.”
naomi’s pointed glare deepens, like she doesn’t fully believe cleo. “girl…stay away from him for your own good. trust me. i know another girl who was curious about him just like you are and she got turned.” cleo wonders if she’s just saying that to scare her away, but surprisingly it doesn’t.
“i hear you,” naomi hums in acknowledgment but thankfully doesn’t reprimand her any further about her curiosity.
…
sometimes cleo makes smart decisions.
when it came to school and her grades, everything was always calculated in her mind for her to choose the best possible outcome. she was annoying obsessive like that — always planning ahead, analyzing and assessing even the most mundane things that infiltrated her life. but other times, on seldom occasions, she makes not-so-smart decisions; one’s that has her acting impulsively and deviating from her normally pristine behavior.
she was supposed to be going back to her dorm room to get ready for a party that she was planning on going to with naomi. it was twelve o’clock and she had just finished an exasperating nine hour bartending shift with annoying alcoholics flirting with her and their heady, glossed over eyes staring at her ass in the tight fitted jeans that she was wearing.
her dad was less than pleased about her place of employment, but he knew that she needed extra money to pay for her clothes, shoes, hair and other miscellaneous items so he refrained from making any comments anytime she she complained about a customer or the minimal pay that she was getting.
cleo was closing the bar; wiping down the sticky counters, recounting the money in the register and overturning the chairs when she looks up and sees him. he’s standing across the street but even with the distance set between them she can feel the smolder of his gaze as he looked at her. cleo stands there for a brief moment just staring back at him until she mustered enough courage to make her way to the front door.
the overhead bell rings in a soft bellow as she pushes the door open. the humidity of the mississippi air sticks against her skin as soon as she steps outside. but even with its scorching temperatures, elias’ stare pierces deeper and has her skin burning. when she steps outside, she sees him making his way towards her — his gait was stealth and calculated.
she feels goosebumps prickle along her skin, air catches in her lungs and warmth curls around her neck as he sauntered closer. the first thing that she noticed was that although naomi had been right in her description of him, she had greatly undermined it. he wasn’t just fine; he was handsome and she could already feel her knees buckling weakly beneath her just at the sight of him. the second thing she notices is his eyes and the phosphorescent glow of red in his pupils. when he finally reaches her, he stands athwart from her and slowly drags his eyes over her body. his eyes find hers again and for a moment she wonders if she could hear the hastened beating of her heart.
“it’s kinda late for you to be out here ain’t it?” he posits and the deepened drawl of his southern accent somehow makes him more attractive.
cleo swallows a shaky breath, nodding. “i’m closing up the bar. we just closed about ten minutes ago,”
he raises his brows, trailing his eyes somewhere offside. “and they just left you to do it by yourself? don’t they know it’s dangerous people out here? vampires walkin’ about like they’re humans.” he says with sarcasm lilting in his voice and clicks his tongue against his teeth with a reprimanding tsk that follows.
cleo juts her chin outwardly. “i’m more than capable of handling myself.” she rebuttals, her hand perched on her hip as she looked at him.
his eyes find hers again and he smirks impishly, nodding his head. “i’m sure.” he says; and it’s something hidden in the way that he says it that has her cheeks warming again. a moment passes between them as he stares at her with an intrigued expression worn on his face. “you ain’t scared of me,” it’s more of a statement than a question, though she knows it’s intended to be the latter.
he sounds and looks surprised by this, that he’d finally encountered someone that didn’t run away when they saw him. “am i supposed to be?” she was more attracted to him than anything, unable to stop looking at his lips and his bared fangs that peeked out from his mouth.
he shrugs, “everyone else is.”
“well i’m not everyone else,” at that he doesn’t respond, only smirks at her again making the butterflies she feels in her stomach somersault deeper. cleo bites her lip as she looks over her shoulder towards the bar. ‘don’t ever invite him in anywhere, that’s how he gets you.’ she ignores her father’s words, pushing them to the back of her mind. “you wanna come in?”
he raises another brow, “you want me to come inside?” this time it’s her that shrugs and he only gives her a brief dubious look of contemplation before he’s following her inside of the bar at her open invitation. she could feel his eyes honed in on her ass and unlike with the drunken middle aged men from before, she isn’t repulsed at the realization.
“you know, at first i thought people were lying about who you are. it seemed like everyone knew what you looked like except for me.” she says, folding her arms against her chest and watching his eyes lower to her perked breast. she bites on her lip, intrigued.
“you were lookin’ for me?”
she nods briefly, “i wanted to know what you looked like.”
he walks towards her until he’s standing directly in front of her; way closer than he was when they were standing outside and it catches her slightly off guard. “well now that you have…whatchu think?” the remark is undeniably coquettish — the soft murmur of it accompanied by the lascivious look that he’s giving her has her pinned beneath his gaze.
“i think you’re not as scary as people make you out to be,” she responds; avoiding the answer that she knows he was truly searching for. but he settles for this one too, indulging in her retreat.
“you think you can make that assumption from a five minute conversation? what if i am like everyone says?” the air between them shifts into this palpable tension; hot and undeniable. he takes a few more steps forward until he’s hovering his heightened figure over her. she cranes her neck to look up at him, “i could bite you right now and you wouldn’t be able to do anythin’ about it”
“if you wanted to you would’ve done it outside,” she rebuttals, seeing the twitch of his curled upper lip.
“maybe i like playin’ with my food before i eat it.” and the innuendo behind his words has her breath hitching.
her skin pricks with goosebumps again at his teasing words. elias takes immediate notice of it; his nostrils flare as he inhales sharply with his heightened senses. and it takes a moment for her to realize that he must smell something radiating off of her body — arousal? excitement? — because he’s chuckling and licking his lips as he reached his hand out and brushed it over her hip. she shivers, not out of fear but of arousal. “and you sure as hell look and smell good enough to eat.”
cleo’s mouth gapes the only audible sound that comes out is a soft gasp. it’s the sound of her phone ringing that suddenly clefts through the tension hanging in the air. she jumps, startled, looking at elias whose eyes narrow at her phone like he’s inwardly cursing it for its intrusion. she reluctantly moves out of his grasp and walks over to pick up her phone that was sat at the edge of the counter.
picking up the phone she sees that it’s a text from naomi asking where she’s at. she’d gotten so distracted with elias that she forgot that she was supposed to meet naomi at their dorm room half an hour ago. she types a quick message in response, telling her that closing up took longer than expected and that she should go ahead to the party without her and that she would just meet her there instead.
she looks up from her phone at the same time elias is already walking out of the door, the sound of the bell ringing announces his departure as cleo stands there with her mind replaying their interaction.
…
a week passes before she sees him again. he’s standing outside of the door; staring, watching, waiting. she walks towards the entrance and holds the door open, beckoning him forward. “come in,” he walks inside as she closes the door behind him.
“you weren’t here the other night.” he says, catching her slightly by surprise. had he been looking for her this time instead of the other way around?
“oh, yeah. i was off. i don’t work on tuesdays and thursdays,” she explains watching as he nodded before looking away with a sheepish expression. after their last encounter, she spent the entire week thinking about him — how he looked at her, how his hand felt against her bare skin. cleo didn’t understand how she developed such a quick attraction for him, especially when she didn’t even give human boys any time of the day, but something about him was different.
naomi was right, all it took was one look from him and cleo found herself a fallen victim to his charm. “why aren’t you scared of me?”
she’s taken aback again, even more so than the first time. “why do you want me to be?” she challenges, noticing the pull of his jaw as he clenches it shut.
“your daddy’s a preacher ain’t he?” she furrows her brow, curious to know how he’d figured that out without her telling him. “how you think he’d react if he knew you were stayin’ behind after work to talk to me?”
ah, so that’s what this is about.
“well aside from me being grown and fully capable of making my own decisions, what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.” and she would definitely keep this secret from him for his sake and hers. “elias—”
“stack.” he interrupts to correct her.
“elias,” she says, unmoored by his correction. he gives her a look but listens as she continued. “i’m not talking to you because i’m trying to prove something to my dad or anyone else here.”
“then why are you?”
“because i want to.” she exasperates, frowning slightly. “why is that so hard for you to believe?”
“because you don’t know what you’re gettin’ yourself into,” elias retorts through a forewarning tone that sounded all too familiar of her family and friends who initially warned her away from him. he was right, aside from the fictionalized information that she got through old cw shows she used to frequently watch, she didn’t understand the depth and complications that came along with being a vampire. but her interest in elias made her want to know more — she wanted the truth and all its ugliness.
“then show me.”
…
elias stack moore had a tarnished reputation way before he got bit and transformed into a vampire. albeit he was the more level headed of the two, the smoke-stack twins were well known for their violent behavior and short fused tempers. their involvement with the notorious al capone and then stack becoming involved in a near ritualistic slaughter hadn’t done anything to ease anyone’s perception of him. his reputation expanded over the near century with people reciting tales of his life; often times dramatizing it completely.
but regardless of the half-truths or stack’s solemn search for penance — he still remained feared to the point where people would refrain from staying outside at night too long just to avoid him. he kept mostly to himself, only indulging in his sexual needs with a few other vampires that lived amongst the town. if he did leave his house, he made sure it was brief just to avoid any inadvertent run in’s.
he knew he was feared and had stories told about him that would give kids nightmares. but she was surprisingly the only one that didn’t tremble in fear when she saw him or tightly clutch her cross necklace and recite scripture from the bible in hopes it would protect them and keep him away like everyone else did. instead of running she gravitated towards him; accepting and intrigued by him in a way he hadn’t felt before.
he was wary at first of getting close to her.
she had a reputation as the preacher’s sweet and innocent daughter. he could only imagine the outcry that would erupt if anyone were to find out that she had been talking to him. but cleo insisted that she didn’t care and expressed interest in wanting to see/know him — all of him. so he invited her to his house.
she came over at work — still dressed in those tight jeans and that cropped shirt that accentuated her lithe physique — all wide eyed and innocent and fucking gorgeous.
as soon as she stepped over the threshold and inside, he felt something shift in the air as he realized that she was the first girl he’d ever invited into his house. he watches her as she looks around spectatingly, crouching over a bit with her hands on her knees to look at the display of photos that he had. “your brother?” she asks rhetorically as she looked at the candid black-and-white photograph that he had of him and smoke taken years back during the time of their youth.
stack nods tersely, pursing his lips in a moue.
and he’s grateful that she notices his reluctance and doesn’t prod any further because even though it’s been over a century since his brother’s death, it was still hurt carrying him around in his memories.
it’s stack who segues the conversation, now turning the spotlight on her. “you said you wanted me to show you, so what do you wanna know?”
cleo bites her lip in thought. stack’s mind is briefly distracted with how sexy she looks that he doesn’t initially hear her question until she asks it again.
“it took me a while to learn how to do it. i taught myself most of what i know, the guy who turned my ex that turned me didn’t teach me much. but it’s the first thing i taught myself.”
she nods, biting on her lip again as she lowered her eyes in a shy chagrin. “so that night at the bar…when you sniffed me what did you smell?”
“you really wanna know?” she looks up, almost contemplative, but nods. “lust. your hormones were all over the place.” her expression’s caught somewhere between mortification and a grimace. “my hearin’ is heightened too…i can hear your heart beatin’ fast as hell. you nervous?”
at her nod, he posits. “cause of me? why do i make you nervous?” he takes a preemptive step towards her, closing the distance between them. he hears her pulse quicken. smells the saltiness of sweat underneath the floral saccharine of her perfume.
she doesn’t respond, only looks at him underneath her lashes. “what else do want me to show you, cleo?” her breath hitches, eyes flit from his lips back up to his eyes in a quick maneuver. her heart beats louder and the smell of her arousal is so thick that he can almost taste it on his tongue. he inhales her scent; feeling his own arousal mix with hers.
he sees her throat stretch as she swallows.
…
it’s almost feral how he bares an arm around her waist and tugged her body closer to his. she gasps a bit at his onslaught — startled by the abruptness of his movements, but she’s immediately relaxing into his embrace the moment he brushes his mouth against hers. he kisses her with a ravenous vigor, sliding his tongue over the cupping of her lower lip as a terse plea for entry. she whimpers before she succumbs to his prowess, slacking her jaw wider as he intertwined their tongues.
his kisses are bruising and greedy to the point where he steals all the air that was in her lungs. it’s a slip of tongues and a crash of teeth messily colliding, through guttural groans and breathy whimpers. stack’s arms tighten their hold around her before lowering to her ass. he squeezes her through her jeans before giving it a firm smack; smirking at the way it ricocheted. he gives it another hard squeeze as his mouth nipped at the exposed flesh of her neck. “tell me what you want,” he rasps; gruff and throaty, his breath hot against her skin.
his lips pucker as he nipped at her skin; sucking deep, purple love-bites all over. (and it feels so good that she doesn’t even care that she’ll have to cover up the evidence of his markings with makeup to hide from her father and naomi.) she grips the back of his head, holding him against her as she fluttered her lashes and indulged in the pleasure.
“this,” she whispered, voice shaky, body trembling with an intense want. he groans against her neck; alternating between nipping and sucking. and he gets too into it because she hears a low sound that mimics a growl and feels the sharpness of his fangs grazing her clavicle. she gasps, taken back and he’s immediately recoiling — looking up at her with his swollen lips and lidded eyes.
“fuck. i-i’m sorry, i didn’t mean—sometimes when i get too excited it happens. but i wasn’t trying to…” he’s panicking, careening apologies to her. but she’s sliding her mouth over his and kissing him deeply with fervor.
“it’s okay,” she whispers, still pecking at his lips.
stack furrows his brow, “yeah?”
“just don’t bite too hard.”
he nods, lightly grazing his teeth into the softness of her flesh. he nibbles at her neck with the tip of his bared fangs biting deliciously into her skin. the pain is sharp but still pleasurable enough to have her eyes rolling to the back of her head. his hands make their way to the front of her body, sliding over her abdomen and hovering at the waistband of her jeans. she breathes softly through her parted lips, emanating a whimper when he bites into her lower lip. “you smell so fuckin’ good,” he murmurs, reaching his hands between the crux of her thighs and sliding his thumb over her slit — passing the pleasure over the seam of her jeans.
her underwear suddenly becomes sticky with her arousal and knowing that he could smell it on her was sending her over the edge. she feels this incessant pleasure building; coiling in her stomach and spreading through the heat of the place where she desired him the most. “can i taste you?” at her consenting nod, he maneuvers them towards the couch and eases her down onto the cushion.
he pries their wet lips apart with a ‘smack’, a string of saliva draws at their disconnection. she holds the smother head of his gaze, watching as he lowers to his knees. “lift your hips up for me,” he murmurs, already working at the buttons and zippers of her pants that loosen around her hips.
she concedes, arching her hips off of the couch just enough so that stack’s hands are able to tug the tight fitted fabric over her hips and down her thighs. “look at you,” he says; marveling at the sight of her arousal. the dark spot is visible against her pink underwear — soddening through the fabric. “already so wet and ready for me.” he kisses the inside of her thighs, nudging the bridge of his nose against her cunt.
she shivers through a moan, it’s just the barest of contact but she’s hypersensitive to his touch. his deft fingers pull at her ruined underwear, sliding them down her legs and absentmindedly throwing them aside so that she’s sat completely bare in front of him.
her cheeks warm at her vulnerability.
stack’s hand brushes against her calf as he gripped her leg and hefted it easily over his left shoulder. his eyes hone in on her cunt as she spreads open; staring in awe at the slick that’s gathered between her folds. he grabs at her other leg, barring it around his right shoulder until he’s got a perfect position of her cunt displayed in front of him.
cleo arches her hips slightly, holding herself upright as she rests the palms of her hand against the cushions. her heartbeat quickens at the desire that grows, palpable and thick in its emerging, sending another jolting throb directly into her cunt. she could feel the wisps of his breath as he leaned in. he brushes a teasing kiss against her thigh, humming softly at the way she shivers in response.
he nudged himself closer towards her cunt; pressing soft kisses against her skin in passing before he finally reaches the place where he could smell the the evidence of her want. he presses a kiss against it and she shudders, feeling the tension roll down her spine and curl into her toes. she doesn’t even have a moment to gather her bearings, because then he’s flattening his tongue and licking her up from the back of her perineum to her clitoris. “oh—fuck. s-stack,” she bellows a soft cry of pleasure, her hands grip into the couch to seek purchase.
and when he reaches the over sensitive bud, he puckers his swollen lips and sucks her into his mouth; skillfully using his tongue to massage her clit. she feels the texture of his tongue stimulating her clit, sending an overwhelming wave of pleasure burning through the crevices of her body. her breath catches in her throat and she’s shivering so hard that stack has to pull his mouth away to remind her to breathe.
she nods numbly, blinking through the fogginess of her vision. she parts her lips and exhaled shakily; attempting to lull her breathing. “grind your hips against my face,” she whimpers, reaching a hand up to hold the back of his neck to anchor herself as she slowly rolled her hips against his face.
“ohmygo—” the added pressure of his nose and tongue assaulting her clit has her dizzy. his hands grip her hips, fingers dig into the meat of her thighs holding her against him.
he makes his way up her vulva; pausing right before he reached her clit and increased the pressure so that the base of his tongue was forced slightly under her clit. he slows his movements, unrelentingly in his ravenous feat as he holds the pressure there. she grinds against him again, shaky, still trembling through her movements as she buried his face deeper into her cunt.
she could hear the lewd stickiness of her slick as he licked up her pussy; could see it glistening over his face — a messy mixture of her arousal and his saliva dripping down his chin. she’s already shaking towards her release but then he grazes his fangs softly against her clit and she’s suddenly bellowing out cries of pleasure as she cums.
she pulsates around his tongue, the tension tugs in her lower belly. he slides his thumb through her slickness, watching as she haphazardly falls backwards against the couch cowering away from the overstimulation. stack pulls away, lapping his tongue around his mouth as he licked up the remnants of her slick. “you okay?” he asked through a rasped breath, watching as she laid there in a dazed stupor.
she nods, just barely, feeling the heaviness of her breathing begin to lull. cleo never thought that someone as smart as her would be drawn into the temptation from a vampire, but here she was — with her cunt still throbbing around nothing, legs and body completely spent, eyes looking at his face that’s covered in her juices, and it entices her.
and it’s then that she realizes that she was totally and completely fucked. he’d warned her that she didn’t know what she would be getting herself into if she became involved with him but with the way he ate her pussy out so good and had her wanting more, cleo realized that she was willing to test the boundaries of her restraint.
…
cleo didn’t like lying, she’s always prided herself about being a truthful person regardless of the repercussions that could follow. she didn’t like people lying to her so in return, she treated everyone with the same decency of respect and remained truthful about everything. it’s not until she starts dating stack that lying easily becomes integrated into her life.
she goes to church with her father every sunday, sits in the front pew and listens as he recites sermons and scriptures about demons and evils that plagued the world. it guilted her knowing that he was wistfully unaware of the fact that she was bedding with someone he referred to as one of the demons that walked amongst them, but the way he made her feel was better than anything she’s ever experienced before.
so she keeps the secret buried deeply, and listens halfheartedly at his preachings as she finds her mind wandering on stack again. it’s easier to hide behind her fib with her father, but naomi’s naturally pestering curiosity always gets the better of her and a simple response of “i already have something planned.” does not offer enough of a rational explanation for her.
“you’ve been acting weird these past few weeks…” she acknowledges with a skeptical brow and pursed lips. she narrows her gaze in on cleo who desperately hopes that she doesn’t look too hard enough to see the hickies stack sucked on her shoulder and breast the other night. “you’re here during the day, but always sneak out to go somewhere at night like you’re meeting someone,” she accents, her perception’s dangerously close to discovering cleo’s secret.
“i’m not.” the lie falls disbelieving to both of their ears. naomi gives her a narrowed look, tilting her head. she bites on her lip in contemplation, sighing softly as she concedes. “okay! but you can’t say anything to anyone especially not my dad.”
naomi gives her a bemused look but nods.
“i might be seeing someone,” cleo murmurs, averting her eyes to naomi to see her eyebrows raise. “i am seeing someone. but don’t ask who! because i’m not going to tell you who it is. i’m only telling you this because i know you wouldn’t stop hounding me if i didn’t.”
naomi stands there quiet, considering her words. “is he married?”
“what!?” cleo beseeches, frowning at her friend’s absurd accusation. “girl, no! i am not a fucking homewrecker!”
“hey, it’s a fair assumption!” naomi rebuttals, raising her hands in the air at her defense. “you’re being sneaky and sleeping over at his place at night… it made me think that you only go over there because that’s the only time that you’re allowed to.”
“no. i’m not fucking a married man.” cleo states. she continued to stuff her clothes in her overnight bag, avid to get to stack’s place. she could feel naomi’s he eyes still piercing through her, curiosity sits on her tongue wanting to inquire further about the guy’s identity. but she thankfully relents, only giving cleo a hum of acknowledgment when she grabs her bag and clamors a parting bye as she walks out.
when she arrives at his house, she’s greeted with a smile and kiss, his arm wraps around her waist as she melts softly into the embrace. he maneuvers her bag from her hands, allowing to to fall absentmindedly to the floor with a loud thud. his hands are groping her everywhere; sliding over her ass, squeezing her titties, palming her cunt through the flimsy pair of leggings that she wore. it’s almost feral how both of their bodies aligned with the same wanton desire.
she loves how the outside world becomes a distant memory for them as they remain secluded in the privacy of his house with no worries of interruption or ridicule waiting. “if you had any common sense you’d stay away from him,” had been a warning, but she found herself gravitating towards him despite their attempts of deterrence. and she had no intentions of letting go of this feeling or him.

Ohh for the prompt maybe Edwin & Crystal friendship with number 11!?!?
Thank you for the prompt! I combined it with a paraphrased version of #28, which @coraline-piange requested for Edwin and Crystal.
11. “They shouldn’t treat you like that.”
28. “...I don’t hate you.” “...you don’t?”
Edwin finds her hiding out on the balcony, huddled in the dark while inside, music plays and her parents and their friends laugh and mingle. Crystal is torn between being annoyed that he followed her and being secretly, shamefully relieved. She wishes he hadn’t showed up in the middle of the party to ask her about a case, wishes that he hadn’t just seen her mother lay into her while all her parents' friends watched and tittered. But if he is here, she’s glad that he didn’t leave her alone.
He doesn’t say anything for several minutes, just folds his hands on top of the balcony railing and stays quiet. They stand side by side, watching the lights of the city far below. Somewhere in the distance, a siren wails and Crystal wonders if there will be a new ghost showing up at the Agency’s doors soon.
“They shouldn’t treat you like that,” Edwin finally says.
Crystal swallows back a snappish reply. Instead, she says, “What she said wasn’t totally wrong. I did burn every bridge my parents ever built for me. I’m the one who got kicked out of every fancy school they sent me to and alienated all my friends and made sure no college will ever let me in unless my parents toss a ton of money at them.”
“Perhaps you would have burnt less bridges if you hadn’t been left alone with so many matches.” There’s a bite to Edwin’s voice.
She snorts. “Why do you think they leave me alone so much? It’s because I’m kind of the worst.”
“That isn’t true.”
“You know it is. You hate me.” Her voice cracks embarrassingly.
“Crystal.” His voice goes gentle in a way that’s so un-Edwin-like that she has to turn to make sure it’s really him. He’s looking down at her with a worried crease in his brow. “Of course I don’t hate you. Do you really think I do?”
Crystal can’t bring herself to answer.
“I find you difficult, stubborn, and often exasperating, but I do not hate you.”
She lets out a hoarse laugh. “Yeah, because you’re famously not any of those things.”
“Charles did once say that you and I are a lot alike.”
“He did not.”
“He did.”
“He’s lucky he’s cute,” she mutters, which gets a soft laugh from Edwin.
“I realize that you seem to think you were some sort of monster before you lost your memories.” He holds up a hand to cut off her reply. “But I’ve never known you to be anything but kind and compassionate to those who are in need of it. You are a real asset to the Agency, Crystal, and I’ve come to be glad of your presence.”
Crystal thinks she might cry, which is just so fucking embarrassing. After everything else tonight, she doesn’t need to cry in front of Edwin Payne.
“And I don’t think your mother knows you half as well as she seems to think,” he adds. “Given that you were in Port Townsend for weeks without her or your father noticing you were missing. In the month since we returned to London, I can count on one hand the number of nights you’ve slept at their house. Mostly, you’ve slept on a couch in an abandoned building in the company of two boys that your parents do not know. Perhaps your mother should spend less time bemoaning the bridges you’ve burned and spend more time thinking about her own behavior.”
Crystal turns her face away so he won’t see the tears gathering in her eyes.
“I am sorry, Crystal,” Edwin says. “Truly. You deserve better.”
“Yeah, well.” She clears her throat and shrugs. “I bet they’d say they deserved a better daughter.”
“I cannot imagine they would have treated a ‘better’ daughter with any more care than they’ve treated you.”
“Maybe not. But maybe they would’ve wanted to.” Surreptitiously, Crystal wipes her eyes. “What were your parents like?”
Edwin is silent for a moment and she wonders if she’s said the wrong thing. Finally, he says, “My father had very few interests outside of hunting, hounds, and women. Since I shared none of those interests, we had little to say to each other. He got on much better with my older brothers, who were very much cut from the same cloth. When he did pay me any mind, it was usually to make sure I knew what a disappointment I was.”
“He sounds like an asshole.”
“Perhaps,” Edwin says. “My mother was better, I think. She liked to read. She used to read to me, until my father put a stop to it. He worried her novels would make me soft.”
“Jesus Christ.” Crystal wants to reach back a hundred years in the past and shake Edwin’s father.
“He never thought I would make anything of myself. I do wonder what he would think, if he were here.”
“I think he’d be proud of you.”
“Unlikely, but thank you.” There’s an edge of ruefulness in his voice. “Running a detective agency for ghosts is certainly not what he would consider an accomplishment. Particularly since I do not have a single hound or mistress.”
Crystal snorts. “Charles says he tried to convince you to get a puppy back in ‘94.”
“He does enjoy bringing home strays.” He doesn’t need to add the silent, “like you.”
“Do you miss them?” Crystal asks.
“Sometimes,” he says after another brief pause. “But I miss who they were when I was small, before I realized what a disappointment I was to them. If that makes sense?”
“It does.” She nods. “It’s like how I miss who I thought my parents were when I didn’t have my memories. When I thought they missed me and were looking for me.”
“I’m sorry they aren’t the parents you thought they were.”
“Yeah.” Crystal wipes her eyes again. “And I’m sorry yours were shitty too.”
Edwin blows out a breath.
Her lips twitch. “Too much emotion for one night?”
“Far too much.”
From inside the penthouse, there’s a burst of shouting.
“Ah.” Edwin sounds smug. “Perhaps we should take our leave now.”
Crystal turns to stare at him. He’s wearing the little smile that he only gets when he knows he just cracked a case open. Or when Charles compliments him. “What did you do?”
“There was an unfortunate incident involving a bottle of wine and one of your mother’s paintings.”
Crystal slaps a hand over her mouth to muffle her laugh. “Which one?”
“That hideously tacky self-portrait.” At her incredulous look, he shrugs. “I didn’t care for the way she spoke to you. And in front of guests, too.”
“You know that self-portrait was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, right?”
“Absurd. I wouldn’t trade it for Charles’s jar of bees.” Edwin sniffs. “Anyway, I’m a ghost. Even if she could see me, what is she going to do, sue me?”
The shouting inside gets louder.
“Yeah, we should definitely get out of here,” Crystal says.
“I couldn’t agree more.” He holds an arm out to her. “There’s a case to solve, after all.”
She links her arm through his. “Thanks.”
Edwin flashes a small, pleased smile. “It was my pleasure.”

what would a bat do | jason todd blurb
or jason finds you crying and decides to shoot first and ask questions later. gn!reader a/n: could be read as romantic or platonic
Jason is a lot like Bruce. He does not see this as a positive.
To be fair, "You're acting like Bruce" is the verbal equivalent of hitting below the belt for him and his siblings. Being compared to your parent is a devastating below in any sibling argument, but with their...respectively unique relationships with Bruce, it's downright lethal. Especially for Jason, who still hasn't found complete security with their father.
So, Jason only compares himself to Bruce with blinders on. He does it every time he snaps at someone just to get them off his case. He cringes every time he decides to go off the grid and shut everyone out instead of confronting his feelings. "You're acting like Bruce" echoes in his head as he draws a mental Venn diagram and desperately fills the opposing sides.
The worst is when he catches his reflection glowering back at him; if he had a nickel for every time he mistook it for Bruce sneaking up on him…
He only sees his father in himself when he's angry. When he's so blinded by the nauseating need for vengeance that the line between Hood and Bat start to blur. When all he can see is the mission. When he realizes just how much he’s chosen to isolate himself.
One of the reasons he hides as much of his face as possible is because then no one can tell him he looks just like a bat when he bares his teeth. He wears his emotions on his sleeve instead of leaving it to anyone's guess. He makes absolutely sure that there's no mistaking him for Batman.
All of this to mixed results, of course.
Because despite all of his valid issues with Bruce, deep down Jason knows that Bruce Wayne is still a good man.
And although he doesn’t quite realize it, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to admit that Bruce Wayne raised Jason Todd to be a good man.
Bruce is why Jason always holds the door open for the person behind him. Every time Jason buys a coffee, he pays for the next handful of customers, something he consistently watched Bruce do. Whenever a child talks to him, Jason always crouches to their eye level…that’s Bruce too.
That’s not to give Mr. Wayne too much credit. Jason Todd has had a good heart from the moment he was born. He never needed anyone to tell him to leave the world a better place than he found it. Just because he has an anomalous method of doing so doesn’t make that any less true.
But there are certain things, instincts, that Bruce cemented in his mind. Like knowing when to ask questions first and when to ask them later.
Like when he finds you crying just now.
He’d sent you a text earlier in the day. Something completely unrelated to your well being, something incredibly unimportant actually. Still, your lack of response made him anxious, so he went to check on you. Just to make sure you weren't, like, dead or something.
There's a split second of awkward silence as you both stare at one another. But you hardly have time to wipe your tears and blubber out, "Oh, hey, what's up," before Jason's engulfing you in a bear hug.
That's when you know you don't need to hold it together. That's when you know it's safe to completely fall apart.
Jason doesn't need to ask questions just yet. You don't need him asking questions. You both know he'll get answers, whether from you or his own investigation. For now he'll stay quiet, sans a few whispered comforts. He could try being a man of many words. He’s more than capable of waxing poetics. It’s just that he knows he can come across as mean and abrasive, even when he’s trying to be kind and soft.
Another way he’s like Bruce.
Nevertheless, he’s got two big strong arms that can speak for him. They’ve got you. They’ll protect you from whatever’s got you feeling like this.
One large hand anchors you to him. It holds you steady as your body shakes with sobs. The other cradles your head, every so often moving to pat your back whenever you hiccup.
You can hide your face in his chest. Ride along with the subtle rise and fall of it. Let the gentle sound of his heart beat drown out the sound of your stressors. He doesn’t care about the damp spot you’re leaving on his shirt. He just cares about you.
Jason is a rock, an absolute pillar of a human being. He can stand there for as long as you need. He can support your weight and hold you up if you’re too exhausted to do it yourself.
When you decide that you want to talk about it, then he tries to be all ears. He sits you on the couch and wraps an arm around you as you rest your head on his shoulder. Occasionally, his thumb drifts up to wipe your stray tears away.
He listens as best he can. He definitely would've dealt with your issue differently if he were you. In a different era, he would've let you know exactly what he would do - more likely, he would've just gone and done it for you. But he can recognize that this is probably a healthier way to deal with whatever upset you. And you know what, he can respect that too.
After you've vented until there's nothing left to say, Jason stays with you. It's that nagging voice that tells him that he has to make sure you're really okay, that you're not about to do something stupid as soon as he takes his eyes off you. After all, that's what he would do.
So he puts something on the tv. A show, a movie, a YouTube compilation, video essay - something he knows you like. He doesn't look away from you the entire time. He sits at the ready to catch any stray tears or soothe any sudden bursts of rage.
Until you fall asleep on his shoulder. He sits like that for another few minutes before he finally transfers you to your bed, tucking you in with so much care. The only sound he makes is a sharp gasp when he catches his reflection in your window.
Then he sits some more, still watching you closely. He watches until he's certain you're sound asleep, ignorant to the things that hurt you.
Then he slips out the window without a peep, off to get your justice.
That's exactly what Bruce would do.

forever?
pairing: mob!bucky x reader
summary: after being forced into a marriage you didn’t want, you become very cautious of your new husband out of fear of what he’s capable of when one of his employees makes a move at a dinner meeting.
warnings: anxious reader, threat of domestic violence (reader is just worried abt it), groping, please let me know if i missed something or need to add anything!
a/n: reader is very timid in this. i know a lot of people like a reader who doesn’t take shit and stands up for herself, but i often find myself in situations where i just shut down and don’t know how to respond… so this is kinda inspired by that feeling
pt 2 -> control
two months out of forever.
two months of what seemed like wedded bliss from the outside.
in reality, that “bliss” included sleeping in separate rooms, never even seeing each other unless necessary to make appearances for either of your parents.
the ones who arranged for this to happen in the first place.
you were just glad you were able to have your time for yourself. you thought you would use the time to continue writing for your book, but you’ve hit a serious case of writers block. so lovely.
on the bright side, he wasn’t as controlling as your few friends had made it seem he would be.
they had painted this picture of a monster in your head. a man who would loom over your presence during every waking second. a man who was controlling and wouldn’t let you have a personal life or secrets.
so far, he’s been the opposite.
for some reason, that still leaves you unsteady.
because they also painted him in a very violent, angry, red light.
but maybe he had a mistress. if that were the case, he truly didn’t respect you or your family. it didn’t seem like bucky to do that, though. he wouldn’t ruin a business deal that benefitted him so much.
the reason you married him was because your father’s finance business was going under, drowned in debts while the only options were to sell to the barnes’ or the rumlow’s. the barnes’ seemed the lesser of two evils.
the only way to smoothly transition your father’s business to be under the barnes’ control without raising any question of your father’s capability was to marry. if any questions were asked about why your father sold his company, the not so good side of the finance industry would trample after your entire family. the barnes’ would get a new company and their many clients, while your family wouldn’t become entirely blacklisted by the entire country, would be putting your family under the barnes’ protection, and there would be less questions asked as to why the company had been merged.
you had a few months of “leaking” images of you and bucky together into the tabloids to prepare the public for the news of such a big marriage. some were photos of you and bucky holding hands while walking. a couple of you at a restaurant smiling. a few staged kissing photos… those may or may not have been your favorite.
those times spent with him, in all honesty, weren’t bad at all. going for walks together at sunset, dinner dates, feeling his lips against yours…
you had gotten to know more about his childhood that the tabloids didn’t feel was important to cover. his favorite subject in school and how he actually lost his arm so many years ago. you learned each others’ fears and worries in life. your favorite thing to learn about him, however, was what he truly wanted in life.
peace.
a couple weeks after the wedding, a few photos of the reception were once again “leaked” in order to sell the “too in love to wait” bit that everyone had started assuming upon seeing the first few photos of you and bucky together.
but all of your history with him flew to the back of your mind as bucky knocked on your office door.
“come in,” you replied hesitantly, not sure what he wanted from you for the first time since your wedding. he stepped through the threshold and stood at the doorframe.
“there’s a work meeting tomorrow,” his hand remained on the doorknob, so stiff you’d think he might rip it off the precious white wood in seconds. “the men are meeting at the house. i wanted to let you know. the men in this business, they expect marriages to be of the… traditional values.”
you nodded with understanding, turning to face him with a forced grin. “so i should play the part of the doting housewife, huh?” no smile in return, so you bit back your humor in turn for matching his serious tone. “what food should i prepare, then? and uh, how many guests will we be expecting?”
“whatever’s easiest for you,” he shrugged lightly. “there will be 9 of us there.” with one final look in your direction, he left the office and didn’t return to say goodnight.
-
the next morning you got to work setting the house up for the 6pm meeting your loving husband was hosting.
you had decided to set up a buffet-style table outside of the main dining room where the meeting would take place. for the menu, you settled on simple grilled chicken with quite a few side options. roast potatoes, asparagus, sauteed carrots, green beans, and rolls.
you were putting the rolls in the oven when bucky got home, seemingly entranced by the smell of all the food, heading straight to the kitchen.
“it smells amazing in here,” bucky called from the archway of the kitchen. you jumped slightly from the surprise, but swallowed down the shock and another weak smile.
“thanks,” you nodded to the edge of the island where a large chalkboard sat, your handwriting neatly displayed on the board that listed all the food to be had. “the menu. i figured a variety would be nice, and who doesn’t like chicken, right?”
“vegetarians,” if you didn’t know any better, you’d think he was telling a joke. but you knew better than that. “the men are coming in a little less than an hour. do you maybe want to change before they get here?”
you looked down at what you were wearing, a pair of blue jeans and a loose t-shirt clearly not worthy of someone who had married a barnes man. “right, of course. i’m sorry,” you finished setting the timer on the oven and ran upstairs to get yourself put together before bucky saw the tears trying to seep past your waterline.
you settled on a black cocktail dress you had worn to one of your dad’s company events before the downfall… quickly swiping some makeup on to cover the exhaustion in your eyes and pulling your hair up to a more respectable updo rather than your typical messy bun.
luckily you had become an expert at quickly getting ready from your time in university, as you were back in time to pull the rolls from the oven, but not before pulling on your apron. you’d be dammed if you got this stunning dress dirty right before this prestigious meeting.
t-5 minutes before the meeting was supposed to begin and you could already hear lots of rustling from the formal dining room. you knocked on the closed doors before bucky opened the door for you.
the men went silent as their gaze rested on you in the doorway.
“the foods ready. buffet style?” your eyes didn’t leave bucky’s pretty blues, too scared to do anything wrong in front of his men.
“that’s perfect, my love,” his hands gravitated to your waist before pulling your body taut against his, one hand moving a stray hair behind your ear before leaning in to whisper. “you look ravishing…”
as he pulled back, you were sure your blush was evident across your cheeks. you tried to hide it behind a smile, shrugging with a shy ‘thanks’ leaving your lips.
“what do you say to my stunning wife, boys?” his hand squeezed your waist once more before turning to the other men, ‘thank you’s being echoed throughout the room as they stood and made their way to the kitchen to make their plates.
in a matter of minutes, all the food was gone. you figured it was best they liked the food, even if you didn’t get to try any of it yourself like you had planned.
you got started on cleaning everything up with earbuds in your ears, starting with the dishes already in the sink from when you were cooking. then, you were sure to place the dishes that the food was in inside the sink for you to clean before starting on wiping the counters, then sweeping, then mopping, and then back to the dishes.
you didn’t realize that bucky had called for a break in the meeting, however. you were in for quite the rude awakening when you felt a pair of hands on your waist, but not the ones you were semi-familiar with.
you turned around with a gasp, shock evident on your face as you tried to piece together whoever this man was. blond hair, blue eyes… definitely not steve though. you knew steve well and had seen him often.
you pulled your earbuds from your ears in attempt to better understand what was going on. his hands were still gripping your sides, but you couldn’t necessarily escape his touch. you were backed against the sink. even if you could fight him, you’d likely lose to his strong grip.
“is the meeting-is it over already?” your voice was so much more cowardly than you’d ever expected yourself to be.
“no, no,” he shook his head. “just a little break, some of the guys were getting antsy.” you leaned back further, trying to create some semblance of space between you. “i figured i’d say a special thank you, on behalf of all of us guys in there.” he let one hand cup the side of your face and neck, his other hand trailing down from your waist, firmly grasping your ass with a sqeeze before you jumped at the invasion.
“i don’t-i’ve got it…”
“john,” he smiled grossly, as if he could convince you to go to bed with him.
“no need for a thanks,” you tried to remind him. “i did this for bucky. for my husband.” your eyebrows rose, trying to emphasize that his boss was also your husband.
“i’m sure he won’t mind you getting a little bit of extra special attention, don’t you?”
then, a growling voice cut through the fear running through your veins.
“i think he might mind.”
you turned to face bucky with wide eyes before facing john, wishing the tears welling in your eyes would just go away.
his hands slowly retracted, stepping back with a chuckle.
“sorry, sir,” he smiled before turning to face your husband. “she was just telling me how she wanted some extra attention, weren’t you, toots?” he tilted his head expectantly.
your mouth opened, nothing leaving in spite of your brain screaming at you. what would bucky do? would he take his side? would he believe you? would he hurt you?
you’ve embarrassed him now… humiliated him in his own home. surely he’ll take action against you for this.
your mind replayed stories your old friends had told you about him. how he would lash out at men that betrayed him. how he never took shit from anyone who showed him any disrespect. how he was the kind of man to shoot first and ask quesitons later.
and now, in a way, you’ve both betrayed and disrespected him. or at least, that’s what he’ll think.
you didn’t even realize tears were flowing down your face until your sobs were interrupted.
“enough!” you finally looked at bucky before his eyes softened for a second before walking closer to you. “go to the room.” he ordered sternly.
“but the dish-”
“i’ll take care of it,” he interrupted gravely, “go. to. the. room.”
“yes, sir,” you nodded and swiftly left the room entirely, collapsing against the door once you had shut it, sobs wracking your body. you held your knees against your chest before trying to regulate your breathing.
he won’t hurt you.
he has to protect his image.
you’ve embarrassed him.
you’re his wife.
you’re his business deal.
you’ve humiliated him.
he’ll hurt you.
you didn’t know how long it had been since the incident.
your sobs had subsided. you had, at some point, moved to your bed. you were still rocking your body back and forth, trying to self sooth.
and then there was a knock at the door.
your body instinctively jumped at the sudden noise, although it wasn’t harsh in any manner, at least not one that you were expecting.
he twisted the knob, slowly opening the door with slow movements.
“i-i’m so sorry,” you began apologizing as soon as he stepped through the threshold into your room. “i swear-i swear i didn’t tell him that. i didn’t even realize he was there, i promise. i wouldn’t lie to you. i’m so sorry, i’m so sorry. please believe me.” your body was still rocking and you didn’t even notice he was as close to you as he was until you saw his hand moving by your head.
automatically, you assumed the absolute worst, your head ducking into your body like a fucking turtle, the meekest squeal leaving your lips mixed with a sob. your arms went over your head protectively, as if a bomb were about to go off.
“sweetheart,” his voice sounded so broken, so torn, so unexpectedly soft.
you finally looked at him for the first time since he came in your room. his flesh hand was holding his metal one as if it were something that could kill. in ways, it was.
“you-there’s no need to…” after looking at him for a second longer, you noticed that his eyes had tears that almost mirrored your own. “i would never, ever lay a hand on you. i’m so sorry for scaring you. i can’t…” he sighed. “i can’t believe i made you believe i’d ever hurt you.”
“i’m sorry,” you pleaded with him once again.
“you have nothing to apologize for,” he hesitated to reach for your hands before settling on simply grabbing a spare pillow. “i came up here to apologize. for my tone earlier… i know john. he never knows his boundaries. i should’ve… you never should’ve been put in that situation. that’s my fault. that’s on me. and i will spend the rest of forever to make it up to you.”
“you don’t have to-”
“no, my love,” he shook his head. “can i-can i hold your hands? please?” you, without hesitation, grabbed his hands yourself. “i need to make it up to you. you’re mine. you’re my wife. it’s my job to protect you, to keep you safe. and to have someone ruin that? to touch what’s mine in my own home? i’m so sorry.” he brought your hands to his lips, pressing at least ten kisses to each hand. he was so gentle and careful it was a good thing you knew better than to think it actually meant anything.
you were surprised, to say the least, at how tender he was being with you.
how could you have ever thought he would hurt you? that he would raise his hand and swing? that he would cause you harm? he was here declaring that he would make up this incident for the rest of eternity when it wasn’t even his doing…
“will you stay with me tonight?” his eyes lit up at the request.
“are you sure you want that?” he became a touch more reserved. “i don’t know if it’s a good idea since you were worried i would…” his voice trailed off.
“i’m sure,” you nodded before scooting over in the bed.
sure, your marriage was arranged and didn’t stem from true love. you may not have talked outside of when absolutely necessary. you might have even been terrified of him at one point.
but now, the thought of forever with bucky barnes didn’t seem half bad.

and for us, it won't be long | joaquin torres x fem!reader | chapter one
summary: after joaquin's accident, you reconnect with your childhood friend
warnings: hurt/comfort, tooth-rotting fluff, eventual smut, spoilers for captain america: brave new world, swearing, use of she/her pronouns, friends to lovers
word count: 2.7k
a/n: so i think this is a small cute mini series of exactly 3 parts. i haven't written a fic in a while so this is wild but i'm happy to be here. the title of this fic is from baynk's song, grin.
read chapter two here
You watch him fall out of the sky on national television, the footage juxtaposed with an exterior shot of the Walter Reed Military Medical Center that’s got been stock footage, resulting in the world’s worst case of emotional whiplash. The news anchor’s voice is clear—reassuring, even—as he explains the situation:
An accident involving the Falcon.
In critical condition.
The new Captain America at his side.
Hopeful.
It’s the word he keeps repeating.
The doctors are hopeful.
But his words are lost on you, traveling in through one ear and out through another. In a state of shock, you’re only able to comprehend bits and pieces because watching the man you’ve known for most of your life soar through the air—not to mention, in flames—and plummet straight into the Indian Ocean, makes you feel like you’re going to pass out.
It’s not like you expect for him to pick up—but you’re calling Joaquin’s phone, your heart practically beating out of your chest like he could—because there isn’t much else you feel like you can do. Besides, if, when he wakes up, you want him to know that you’ll be there.
You get his voicemail.
Of course.
But you can’t sit with this alone.
So you call your mom. And then his. And then three of you hold each other through the phone like he held your father all five years through The Blip.
And when all is said and done, after days of agonizing nothingness, you get a text from his mother saying:
He’s going to be okay.
*
It’s the seventh time in the last ten minutes that Sam sees the screen of Joaquin’s phone flash upwards toward the hospital ceiling, signaling that he’s got yet another notification.
“You should give ‘em a call,” Sam encourages.
Joaquin shoots a quizzical look to the man he’s looked up to his whole life, as Sam nods towards the cell phone once again, clarifying his previous statement with: “Your family, Torres. And whoever else’s been blowin’ your phone all day.”
His face falls.
The doctors had called to let his family know that he had made it through a successful surgery, and that he was going to be okay, but he hadn’t reached out just yet. Hell, he was almost grateful that his phone had been dead for days, crossing his fingers that the hospital wouldn’t find a spare charger. But then Sam came in this morning, brand new phone charger in hand, forcing Joaquin to return to reality: an overwhelm of missed calls and texts.
“I don’t-, I… I don’t want to worry them,” Joaquin hesitates, the disappointment in himself evident in how cautious he is. It’s why he’s been putting it off. He can’t seem to beat the nagging feeling that he should’ve done some differently—something so he didn’t have to make this kind of call.
But he knows he’ll have to face the music sooner or later.
“What-? What do I say? What am I supposed to tell them?” he asks earnestly, searching the face of his mentor for any kind of guidance.
“Tell ‘em you’re gonna be okay,” Sam replies gently, the reassurance in his words allowing the obvious to land a little softer than it would had he chosen a different path. Joaquin nods slowly in response, reaching for the phone on his hospital bedside table.
With a sigh and a heaviness he can’t yet name, Joaquin begins to scroll through the notifications. While he expects to see calls and texts from his parents, extended family members he hasn’t spoken to in years, he doesn’t expect to see 5 missed calls and 3 texts from you.
Sam watches carefully as a look of surprise washes over his friend, colleague, and wingman’s face, and there’s something different about his reaction when his thumb hovers over your messages.
“I’ll give you a few minutes, man,” Sam bows out, respectfully.
*
When Joaquin finally texts you, it’s just a stupid GIF of a zombie rising from the grave. You’re less than amused by his humor at a time like this, but your heart feels like it’s going to jump out of your chest as you see that the notification is from him. 2:08 pm
You: Not funny, asshole! We’ve all been worried sick. 2:10 pm
Joaquin: 😣You talked to my mom?!
2:15 pm
You: Fuck off. You know Lydia likes me more than you.
2:16 pm
Joaquin: 💔
Savage.
2:16 pm
I’m jk. Mom told me how wonderful you’ve been with her and Dad. Thank you. 🙏
2:22 pm
You: I’m just glad you’re okay.
2:30 pm
Joaquin: 😅
2:30 pm
You: Can I call you later?
2:31 pm
Joaquin: Yeah :)
*
You’ve never been this girl: the girl that waits by the phone for some guy to text her.
But in the days following Joaquin’s accident, you have to remind yourself that the fact that you’re practically glued to your phone waiting for updates is just a result of the fact that you could’ve lost him.
Besides, he’s not just some guy. It’s Joaquin: he’s the neighborhood kid you grew up with, the sweet seventeen year-old boy who took you to your senior prom, and the man that both of your mothers still swear to this day that you’ll marry.
It’s Captain America—Sam, he insists that you call him—who eventually puts you out of your misery by inviting you to see Joaquin, when he notices his wingman’s recovery is going better and better all thanks to his mysterious pen pal.
“I know kids these days can’t get off their phones, but something’s telling me there’s a cute girl on the other end, Buck,” Sam mentions over the phone one day, when the latter asks him about Joaquin’s recovery. “Hey, I’m not mad at it! Seems like it’s helping him.”
“Kid’s gotta girl?” Bucky asks from somewhere along the campaign trail, a hint of curiosity in his voice as he inquires further. “There’s only one way to find out,” Sam shrugs with a little mischief in his voice.
It’s not hard to swipe Joaquin’s phone, considering his recovery still requires lots and lots of rest. The last thing you had expected that day was a call from Captain America himself—from Joaquin’s phone, no less—asking you to come to DC to reunite with your childhood friend.
What’s even more shocking is the fact that it’s Sam Wilson himself, who’s there to meet you at the hospital. You try to keep your cool as you introduce yourself, but you can’t shake the giddy feeling of excitement that fills you upon meeting the Avenger you and Joaquin used to see on TV. He leads you down the long hospital hallways, warning you quietly that Joaquin was pretty badly injured, and he may have a little more wear and tear than you expected.
You don’t mean to gasp, but your sharp intake of breath upon seeing him in his hospital bed isn’t exactly subtle. Your eyes trace over him worriedly, as you take in the burn scars on his neck and the still-healing cuts and scrapes on his face. It’s the moment you realize that, since making the choice to join The Avengers, your superhero friend is not so invincible.
“What’re you-?” Joaquin balks, speechless at the sight of you. He looks from you to Sam, then back to you, before returning to Sam once more, his eyes landing on the man like he’s Benedict Arnold. “Sam, you didn’t-. How did you-? You called her?!”
“Wasn’t hard to swipe your phone when you need a nap every 2 hours,” Sam replies casually, as if he isn’t acting like the world’s most embarrassing dad right now. “And I got tired of watching you wait by the phone all day for your girl to finally text you.”
“Oh my god!” Joaquin groans, at the very same time you let out a:
“Oh he’s not my-!”
“Dude, we’re not-,” Joaquin gestures towards you in a panic, as he searches for the right words, saying a silent prayer that he can get out at least one full-finished sentence. “I’m not like, waiting by the phone but It’s not like I can go anywhere right now, man!” Sam chuckles only to be met with a very dramatic eye roll from Joaquin as he tries to defend himself.
“Listen, we’re old friends. We’ve just been catching up,” he tries to explain again, gesturing towards you once more.
Sam smirks, uttering an unconvinced, “Sure. Well, whoever she is or isn’t to you… seems like she’s been helping your recovery. Thought it couldn’t hurt.”
You laugh, exchanging a look with Joaquin.
“I still can’t believe you called her,” Joaquin shakes his head, still trying his best to process this.
“Well, of course he called me, Torres, considering you’ve always been shit at asking for help,” you finally chime in, with a ball-busting attitude he’s missed.
“Oh shit,” Sam says, looking from you back to Joaquin as he waits for a reaction.
Joaquin grins, gearing up to explain: “When she feels threatened, she has a tendency to lash out.”
Sam chuckles.
“Feisty. I like it," he smirks with a nod of approval. And he knows that this that’s his cue. It’s time to give you kids some time alone. “Imma step out for a second. You guys… catch up. Or whatever.”
You press your lips together, stifling another laugh, and waiting a beat as Sam disappears.
“Dude,” you start, taking a few steps closer to Joaquin, with a look of disbelief.
“Dude,” Joaquin mimics you, unable to hide the smile on his face upon seeing you.
“That’s like… Captain America,” you nod towards the hallway as you take a few more steps forward.
“I know,” Joaquin says back, an excitement between the two of you.
“Captain fucking America,” you emphasize..
You’ve really been doing the best to keep your cool, but you’re not sure you can contain it any longer.
“I know!” he fanboys with you this time, because Joaquin still can’t believe this is real either.
That he works with Sam Wilson. That he’s Captain America’s wingman. That you’re here, in DC, with him.
It’s as if a piece of home has joined him for the first time in a long time in this new chapter of his life.
The two of you exchange another smile and a wave of relief washes over you.
You take a beat and one step closer to him, sitting down in the chair next to his hospital bed. You shake your head and this time, the expression on your face goes from soft to a much more hardened and worried look.
“Joaquin,” you start, the tone of your voice a warning enough.
“Oh God,” he sighs, recognizing that tone.
“I could kill you,” you threaten, the next part reinforcing his more than accurate evaluation of you from earlier. “But clearly you don’t need my help.”
“Well, I did technically die,” he parries, light heartedly.
“Joaquin!” You interject, your voice going up in pitch as you cut him off.
“What? You scared you’d miss me or something?” he teases, meeting your fire with his.
“Oh fuck off,” you scoff, with a shake of your head. “It’s not-, don’t joke about that! It’s not funny!”
“Didn’t you just threaten me with-?” he continues, knowing all the buttons to press.
“Yeah, but it’s different when I-. Didn’t you just say that I have a tendency of lashing out when I feel threatened?” you snap, the worry in your voice enough to get him to stop.
You sigh, your eyes scanning him once more, because maybe it would be easier if he really were invincible.
You take a beat, and the two of you share a full silence between you. It’s comfortable, yet filled with ‘what ifs’ neither of you want to acknowledge.
“I can’t believe Sam stole my phone and called you,” Joaquin shakes his head this time, groaning again because Captain America really should be renamed to America’s Most Embarrassing Dad for this. “How did you get here so fast, anyway? My parents won’t even arrive till tomorrow.”
“Oh I uh-. Well, you’ve been busy saving the world so I haven’t exactly been able to tell you,” you reply, realizing that it hadn’t even come up in conversation via text yet. “I moved to Philly a few months ago.”
“Philly?” Joaquin asks, a little surprised, because he’s not sure he could picture you anywhere that has a properly cold Winter season. “Yeah,” you chuckle, immediately recognizing his look. “I had to buy my first Winter coat this year but… the trade off is that I’m only an hour train ride away from you now.”
His face lights up as soon as you spell it out for him.
“Well, my parents are coming in tomorrow. Are you-, think you’ll be around?” he asks, hopefully.
“Do you want me to be?” you ask in return.
He nods, “Yeah. Think they’d like to see you.” “Okay,” you agree softly. “I’ll stay.”
A beat.
And another silence between the two of you, one that feels much heavier than the last.
“You could’ve died, Joaquin,” you state quietly.
“I know,” he replies, the guilt evident in his voice.
You could’ve-,” you begin to repeat, your voice breaking this time.
“I know,” he says again, much firmer as he reassures you. “But I didn’t. And we’re here now.”
He reaches for your hand, and you’re almost angry with the way your body betrays you. With tears in your eyes you look back at him, shaking your head.
“Goddamit,” you swear with a small laugh. “You’re the one who gets hurt yet you’re here comforting me.”
He shakes his head this time, squeezing your hand as he smiles, “It’s okay. I’m just glad you’re here.” A beat. “But I’m still gonna kill Sam.”
You laugh, wiping a few tears out of your eyes with your free hand.
“And yeah. I would,” you finally admit, your voice soft.
“Hm?” Joaquin asks, his lashes heavy as he blinks, taking you in.
“I would really, really miss you,” you answer, a vulnerability in your voice this time that you’re quick to put an end to. “So don’t fucking do this shit again!”
Joaquin laughs as he squeezes your hand once more, knowing it’s not a promise he can make to either of you.
*
9:45 am
Joaquin: Mom and Dad left yesterday and Mom told me to tell you that she misses you already.
10:01 am
You: You can just admit that you miss me already.
10:03 am
Joaquin: 🤐
Thanks though. I think they’re a little less worried now that they know you’re close by.
10:08 am
You: How’s it going?
10:13 am
Joaquin: Good! I got discharged a few days ago and am heading to Wakanda in a few weeks.
New suit! 🦸
The last time you see me can’t be in a hospital gown.
10:15 am
You: I don’t know why you’d say that! It’s a great look for you.
10:20 am
Joaquin: 🙄
Guess I should’ve swiped one from the hospital to wear all the time.
What’re you doing next weekend?
10:21 am
You: Nothing. What’s up?
10:30 am
Joaquin: What do you think about me coming to Philly?
10:31 am
You: To visit me? Or just because?
10:32 am Joaquin: Yes to visit you 😆
Thought we could hang out before I go.
10:33 am
You: Yeah! I know it’s only an hour train ride in and out, but I’ve got a super comfy couch you can crash on if you want.
So that’s an option.
The next text you receive is a selfie of him, wearing a plain grey crewneck sweater.
You laugh. The guy loves a good selfie.
10:40 am
Joaquin: 1 photo attached
Rocky ain’t ready for this
10:43 am
You: LOL
Please don’t tell me you’re coming to Philly so you can recreate the Rocky training montage.
And if you’re wondering, I will not be partaking. You’re on your own with that one.
But yeah, I’d be happy to host you!
10:48 am
Joaquin: Deal.
I’ll call you later. We can work out the details :)
11:00 am
You: Deal :)
