~{Pov} Y/n:
After a long time, night came and all the men were going to bed. I was still awake and already sneaking food into the rowing boat. I had to at least find something to keep me awake so we could set off when everyone was asleep. I took a short break to eat the apple I was saving.
For God's sake, Y/n! You're helping two thieves and you're going on a trip with them?! What if this town doesn't exist? What if they betray me? Of course Miguel promised me, but I'm not sure I should trust him, I don't know how seriously he takes promises. I can't believe I'm practically throwing everything away to find this city... Ah Dad... What I won't do for you...
I came out of my thoughts when I was eating the apple and Altivo gave me a little push to get my attention. That horse was very intelligent:
“Hey boy.” He kept his eyes on the apple I was eating. “I know what you want, you know your owner won't let you, but I'm good...”
I handed him the apple and he ate it, then kept asking me for a cuddle:
“Ok boy, I've got to go now.” I said as I stroked him. “There's a lot ahead for me... and for those two clumsy boys too.”
I added and laughed as I said it. I moved away from Altivo and went to check that everyone was asleep before calling Miguel and Tulio, and they were, it was now. I went to the lower deck where the cargo was and where they were hiding. I approached the barrels:
“Come on, they're all asleep, it's time.” I said and immediately they came out of the barrels.
“Finally, did everything work out?” Miguel asked and I nodded.
“For a moment I thought you were going to betray us and leave us here.” Tulio said in an attempt to annoy me.
“I'm not like you.” I returned the taunt and he looked me up and down.
“Come on, guys...”
I went ahead, the boys followed me off the deck, I saw Miguel putting something away in his shirt, but I didn't see what it was. We got out, Túlio and I tied the boat to the rope to lower it into the sea while Miguel watched to see if anyone was coming:
“Make sure you tie it up properly.” Túlio spoke with mockery, I couldn't resist and made the famous middle finger sign. “That's not something a lady does... Oh I almost forget, you're not one... you're just pretending to be a man around” He sneered.
“Keep believing I'll care about a thief's opinion, Tulio.” I said as I climbed into the rowing boat and, still holding the rope, prepared to go down, just waiting for him and Miguel.
Túlio climbed into the boat, looking at me disapprovingly and I just ignored him. Miguel walked up to us on tiptoe so as not to make any noise, but Altivo went up to him and gave him a little push to get his attention. For God's sake, don't let that horse make any noise...
“Oh Altivo...” Miguel said as he stroked the horse, but it didn't seem to want any affection, it was sniffing around for something in Miguel's blouse.
“Come on Miguel!” Tulio whispered impatiently. “Stop wasting time, this is a workhorse, not a poodle!”
Miguel quickly went to the boat, I was going to lower the ropes so that the boat would go out to sea, but he stopped me:
“Y/n, let me do it, you've already done too much.” He offered, holding out his hand.
“Oh, all right...”
I handed him the rope and sat in the boat while they went down. I confess I was quite scared of the water, I can't swim, there's that, but I don't think anything bad will happen... I hope... Altivo was neighing low and grumbling and he looked at us as we lowered the boat into the sea. Damn, that horse is going to wake someone up:
“Shiii! Altivo...” I whispered to him and signaled silence, that horse was smart, but he kept stubbornly neighing.
“Arg! What does that horse want?” Tulio asked angrily.
“He wants the apple.” Miguel laughed as he took out the apple that was hidden in his clothes. That's what he had stolen.
“Then give it to him before he wakes up the whole ship!” Tulio impatiently took the apple from Miguel's hands and threw it back into the ship, the horse soon falling silent.
As I was sitting down, I took the opportunity to take off the rest of my disguise, since I was without my false moustache, I took off my hat and let my hair down. After a few seconds, the apple that Tulio had thrown came back and fell into the sea:
“How this?...”
Before I could finish the question, the three of us were startled by Altivo jumping into the water to get the apple, which was very unexpected:
“Altivo!”
Miguel shouted, letting go of the rope and jumping into the sea to save that horse. As soon as he let go of the rope, the boat became unbalanced and fell into the water, I almost fell into the sea and Tulio became a little unbalanced too:
“Miguel!” Túlio shouted as he rowed over to the blond who was trying to help the horse.
I held out my hand for Miguel to take and climbed back into the boat. Holy shit, how are we going to save him and that horse?!
A caravel passed right by our rowing boat, and the wave it caused caused our boat to capsize:
“Oh no!” I exclaimed frightened and nervous as I held on to the boat, I didn't know how to swim. “No! No! No!”
We shouted as soon as the boat capsized, I couldn't hold on and fell straight into the water, desperate, I was trying to keep myself afloat, flapping my feet and hands anyway:
“I can't swim!” I said as I tried to breathe, but the water was entering my mouth and nose, suffocating me. “Help!”
The boys managed to swim to the overturned boat and climbed in, then saw the situation I was in:
“Hold on!” Túlio held out his hand. No fucking way!
“No!...” The water went straight into my mouth and I choked. “I'd rather drown!”
“Miguel, wrap the rope around the horse and pull on three!” Tulio said, handing Miguel the rope.
“But what about Y/n?” Miguel asked, but Tulio interrupted.
“Just do it! Quickly!”
I knew I shouldn't trust them. Gradually I sank and lost air, I still wasn't giving up and I was desperate to get to the surface, but it was no use, my nose started to sting and the water started to invade, my vision gradually blurred and I blacked out.
~ {Pov} Tulio:
Miguel and I pulled the boat and managed to get it unstuck with Altivo inside, we climbed exhausted into the boat:
“Where's Y/n?” I asked and Miguel pointed, a little dizzy and catching his breath.
I looked where Miguel pointed and saw only the girl's hand, she was sinking. I wasted no time and jumped back into the water, swimming over to her, who was passed out. I dived in and luckily managed to catch her and swam back to the boat, holding her:
“Oh my, Y/n...”
Miguel was very worried when he saw the fainted girl and helped me get her back into the boat. I climbed in, and the first thing I did was to put my head on her chest to listen to her heartbeat, but it was impossible because of her bodice and the large number of bands she was wearing on her breasts, I think because of her disguise. I can't believe I'm going to do this...
I lifted her clothes a little and took off the straps and bodice, which were squeezing her body. Miguel looked at me reproachfully as if to say "What are you doing?", but I ignored it, I'm just trying to save her. I mean... I won't deny that it was nice to see her body and a bit of her breasts, after all, she is attractive. I put my head on her chest again, I could hear her heart:
“She's alive.” I said as I patted her face to wake her up. “Come on... come on, Y/n... Breathe!”
I kept doing this and after a few seconds she woke up. I didn't want to admit it, but I was quite relieved.
~ {Pov} Y/n:
I woke up, regaining consciousness, coughing and spitting out the water that had gotten in, my breath was burning and I was trying to catch my breath, they really had saved me?
“Y/n!!!” Miguel hugged me tightly. “I thought you'd left us!”
“Less, Miguel...” Tulio said and the blonde slowly let me go. “Let her breathe, you'll end up killing the girl that way.”
“W-Who...” I tried to speak, but I was still coughing.
“Is there any food left at least?” Túlio asked, catching his breath.
“Ah... yes and no...” Miguel replied. The food had gone into the sea and Altivo had eaten almost everything else they had salvaged.
“Oh no!” Tulio lamented and put his hands on his head.
“Tulio, look on the bright side, it can't get...” Before he could finish speaking, the heavy rain suddenly started.
“Would you say 'WORSE', perhaps?!” Tulio asked him angrily.
“No, I wouldn't...” Miguel lied.
“No?” Tulio asked again.
“No, seriously, I've already reconsidered my optimism...”
I just watched them, sitting next to Altivo and controlling my breathing, after all, I had almost drowned. I found it strange that I was breathing better and didn't feel "tight", and that's when I realized that I was without my corset and my sash, which I had tightened on purpose to hide my breasts in the disguise... so wait a minute... no, they didn't do that... I felt my face heat up a lot, how embarrassing, I hope they didn't see anything. Still sitting down, I put my knees in front of me and hugged my legs, I wasn't wearing anything underneath and my clothes were wet, almost transparent:
“I told you it wouldn't be a good idea to take her!” Tulio said angrily to Miguel and pointed at me. Hey, wait a minute! “Women are always a bad omen at sea!”
“Arg! shut up!” I said, still sitting down. “I had nothing to do with it, it wouldn't have happened if that horse hadn't jumped into the sea.” Altivo neighed, complaining. “Sorry, boy.”
“Before I suspected you were a curse, now I'm sure!”
“Oh really?!” I asked sarcastically and moved closer to him and Miguel. “I've barely started raising hell in your life yet! What do you want me to do now? Throw you to the sharks?”
“Better than living on this trip with you!”
“Guys, please...” Miguel butted in and approached us. “Stop it, of course we're going to have a lot of obstacles on this trip, but we'll manage. Relax.”
He moved away from us, picked up the oars and started rowing:
“I'm starting to regret taking part in this...” I mumbled to myself as I tried to calm down and put my fingers on my eyebrows, I'm going to avoid fighting with Tulio just for Miguel.
“Yeah, me too.”
“You bastard.” I muttered to Tulio.
“Stubborn.” He muttered back.
“Stupid.”
“Liar.”
“Little fucking thief.”
“Masculine.”
“Guys!” Miguel scolded us.
“All right!” Tulio and I said angrily in a chorus.
We were shivering after diving into the sea and the cold water from the heavy rain that was falling on us. I hope the sea doesn't get too rough with this storm...

Hi Zahra! (yes it's me again :D) so a few months ago before it happened that your blog was deleted, I had looked at how old you have been on Tumblr, I don't remember much but it seems like you have presented a lot of things before Super Mario
Hi, Dragonfly! Yes, you're completely right 😄 When I first joined Tumblr, I think it was around 2014-2015, and back then I had just watched The Road to El Dorado for the very first time and I had become absolutely OBSESSED with it. So what I did back then was sharing/reblogging gifs of it because this movie is a freaking gif factory 😂😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, how to forget the well-known...
Tumblr media
The quintessential meme, am I right? 😎👌
I freaking LOVE this movie. The story, the music (I learned the songs both in English and Spanish), the characters!!! Now that I think of it, Miguel and Tulio are just a pair of sillies whose bond goes beyond words, sooo... maybe we could even say they're somehow Mario and Luigi-coded? 👀👀
Not gonna lie, you just gave me the PERFECT excuse to rewatch this movie 😂😂 Also, the fact that they're from Spain made me feel so connected to it! I can never forget that beginning, with the bull chasing after them and the music being so typical Spanish and even adding some "Olé!" to the mixture 😂😂😂 I just love seeing the way us Spaniards are seen around the world and this was so much fun! I must say though, there are NOT bulls running around the streets in Spain, I promise 😂😂
I really loved this ask! I'm sorry I took some time to respond to it but I truly feel like rewatching one of my favorite movies thanks to you 🥰 Thank you so much for sending it! 💖
But remember: it's tough to be a God! 🎶

Is it too obvious that this is my favorite song from the entire movie? 🤭

Thoughts I had during TGCF S2 Ep 4
This’ll be another quick reaction ‘cause I have a desk to clean!
-Oooh!  Starting with the opening!
Previously on TGCF…
-Dim Sum night @ Paradise Manor!
-Man they didn’t even get a sip in
-He reassured Lang Ying
-Dude it was in a really small glass, so maybe it could’ve been to his liking if it wasn’t alcoholic
-Man that expression and tone made it seem like Hua Cheng made a really grave error
That noise when Qingxuan tilted their head
-Qingxuan is the wingman/woman
-For those of you who think he said, “Some sex allow indulgences” in the dub,  it’s actually “Some sects allow indulgences” which references the sects that practice cultivation, and I manage to catch that detail
-Licentious means related to promiscuous and sexual activity.
-A flashback to Ep 2
-That’s the advice on staying balance is basically what every patron ignores in Vegas
-He’s tricking him into getting the information for the dice portal
-“Enough San Lang!  Please stop teasing me.”  *In a sing-song voice*  No he will not~!  And XL said it so gently!!!!
-Man he fell for that favor all too quickly
-Just like transferring spiritual energy
-It’s a 12!
-It’s the music from EP 6 when they were both caught in the sandstorm!!!!
-He offered his dice!!!
-Man, hook line and sinker for XL
-“A few more rounds?” We all know what he was referring to~! ;3
-NYOOOM
-“San Lang, will you ever stop spoiling me?” *In a sing-song voice again*  No he will not~!
-Aww he doesn’t want to take advantage of his Ghost King
-Hi Qingxuan
-This is like removing your belt and getting into comfier clothes after going to town at a fancy restaurant with your folks
-No thoughts just Buff!Qingxuan, and he’s got great fashion sense
-Details~!  That’s literally all of us watching this!
-Yep told ya he’s got great fashion sense and imagine the montage Windmaster did just to sneak in
Tumblr media
-This has the energy of seeing your roommate just pass out in your room of the flat
-Salacious means arousing to appeal to sexual imagination
-“I mean he called you his honored guest in front of everyone” “Jealous~?” - Jake the Dog, Burning Low, Adventure Time
-He didn’t forget at all
-They were talking about luck~
-Man that transition with the dice toss
-A really temporary gift
-Another 12
-That’s a lot of stairs
-Firebending
-No need to be savage Qingxuan
-Just like The dragon of the west, the Martial god of the west somehow has that energy and more foreshadowing for the series
-It looks like a Mayan mural
-No earthbending allowed
-The dice and tunnel are confusing them
-He rolled a 7!  Somebody go get Miguel and Tulio!
-It’s the iconic floor trap pitfall
-They made two craters like Wile E. Coyote!
-Oooh right on the skull!
-It’s a narrow tunnel!
-Cave in!
-LEECH WORMS!
-Another animal hybrid the people in ATLA will get scared sh*tless over
-More firebending!
-Fire beats bug!
-Well those dice tiles were convenient
-Another 7!
-Another trap door!
-It’s a 4!
-The downside of partnering with Xie Lian everyone
-And he just effortlessly helps up Buff!Qingxuan
-I like how he doesn’t badmouth Hua Cheng’s trickery
I’m gonna to skip this next part of the EP because it’s offensive!  (You know the part I’m talking ‘bout)
-That’s gonna be another visit to the exfoliating facial masks
-Welcome to XL’s pain dude
-Dude, you didn’t bring him bad luck at all, he didn’t realize and it’s out of both of your control
-One man can’t sway the Windmaster’s luck, that gonna be another iconic quote
-Get yourself a friend like Qingxuan
-Yay another conveniently placed dice tile!
-Another 12
-Man the whiplash Qingxuan has going from saying ‘San Lang’ to ‘Hua Cheng’ when he got exasperated
-This took place in a time before the Step counter was invented
-*hears Ming Yi speak*  OH NO HE’S HOT!!!
-He melted the metal shackles
-This has the energy of the cheerleader being close with the goth girl but masculine
-From EP 11
-Yep it’s exactly like the popular girl trying to befriend the goth
-And he already knows they’re close!
-And Ming Yi just sleeps to not talk to anyone, valid
-What was the number he just rolled
-Another floor trap
-He didn’t land in his lap like in the novel and man Hua Cheng
-Boo Chinese Censorship! BOO!!! (Rotten tomatoes)
*Hua Cheng gasps in demi* *wink wink*
That’s all for the reaction post, I gotta get back to cleaning me and my sister’s room

I Put A Spell On You (Tzekel-Kan x Chubby Reader)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Cortes's daughter follows Tulio and Miguel to El Dorado, how will it change their fate? Can Tzekel-Kan hold his ground in the presence of a goddess?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey guys, I know it's been a while. But I would like to point my finger at the Red Web podcast. They recently posted an episode about the legend of El Dorado, which caused me to rewatch The Road to El Dorado. Thus this was spawned. I hope you enjoy.
---------------------------------------------------------
Tulio slammed his head against the post and held it there. His headache had caught up to his actions.
“Psst.”
He tilted his head, but only heard Miguel's pacing. So he brought his head back and started towards the post again,
“Pssssst! “
This time his friend stopped him and pointed up. Where they could see a heavier set sailor with their hands pressed against the bars of the brig. Their body were hard to make out, the baggy tunic and large hat covering most of their features.
“Would you like a hand out?”
“Yes.” The duo yelled.
The mysterious figure shushed them and looked around. Then turned back and said. “I can help you, but not directly. For a price that is.”
The friends looked at each other and seemed to have a silent conversation. With a nod Miguel looked up. “What are your terms?”
“I want off this ship. I was forced onto this crew and want to be free.”
They went back to internally chatting. Another nod was had, it appeared they were in the same boat. So why not team up.
“OK, now get us out of here.” Tulio said impatiently.
They tossed an apple between the bars. “This is the key to escaping.” Walking away they gave no explanation.
Staring at each other in bewilderment, they almost missed the beat of hooves coming their way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was hard to believe that a horse had helped them escape. Though they were curious where the stranger had went off to as well. Getting the last of the provisions onto the rowboat, they were surprised to see a figure. Realizing it was their “savior", Tulio's temper flared.
“What was all that about?!”
“What are you talking about?” They adjusted their bag and moved towards the boat.
He stepped in front of them. “Leaving us there after making a deal. Then you reappear out of nowhere.” His hands were flailing around wildly as he spoke.
“Did Altivo not being you the keys? “ As if to cement their point the horse sauntered up to the stranger and nusseled their shoulder. “You’ve never let me down, have you, old friend. Goodbye.“ They gave the horse a few pats, then went to help Miguel with the boat.
Tulio pouted over the fact that the apple was the only reason they got the keys. Miguel however was impressed at how the stranger handled the situation. As they lowered the row boat, Altivo had a fit. They tried to talk him down, but he only got louder. Then realizing his mistake, Miguel brought out the Apple, which Tulip tossed. Then it landed in the ocean and was followed by Altivo. Prompting everyone, but Tulio to attempt a rescue.
As the rescue pair reached the horse, Tulio navigated the boat over. It was a struggle, but the trio managed the feat. Only to lose most of their supplies in the process. This led into a string of bad luck.
The stranger was finally revealed, as a woman.
“Why wouldn't you bring that up!” Tulio had only known this person for an afternoon and couldn't remember being more exasperated.
“You never ask, so I thought there was no reason to say.” With a shrug of the shoulders you wrang out her hair. “ Besides, I didn't lie about being there against my will. “
“If that’s true, then she does have a point.” Miguel said, attempting to be the voice of reason.
“Oh shut up. You’d side with the pretty girl anyways.“
Miguel didn't answering, not wanting to admit that his partner was right.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The journey was dull in some moments, but treacherous in others. With most of their provisions gone, they had a hard time not succumbing to hunger. Until birds started dropping things in their boat. Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, no offense Altivo. They happily used anything they brought.
Though when they learnt the actual reason for the blessings Tulip had a few choice words to give (Y/N).
“You’ve been feeding them behind our backs!”
“It's just a bit of dried corn. I saved it for Altivo originally. Then an opportunity presented itself.”
Miguel, ever the peace keeper, said between them. “While it may have been a good idea to discuss what we did with the remaining supplies. It did help us in the long run.” He look at the two, only to see they had went to opposite ends of the boat. Shaking his head, he knew this was far from over.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the two men lamented about their regrets, you couldn't help but feel downtrend too. “I regret not escaping my father sooner.”
This cause the duo to look up a bit. You hadn’t mentioned anything of your past, other than knowing Altivo. Miguel was the one to say something. “Is he the reason you were on the ship.”
“Yes, though he was the reason we were all on the ship.” You said, facing away from them. When you turned to contiue, you suddenly perked up. “Land!”
The rest of the passengers turned and realised they had reached shore. Leaping from the boat everyone kissed the dry, warm sand. Until Miguel reached a skull, everyone recoiled and second guessed staying.
Until Miguel brought out an oddly familiar map and exclaim that they were near El Dorado. The pair argued while (Y/N) and Altivo explored the beach. The boys continued, so you decided to be the mediator.
“Let's just see where this leads. Even if we wanted to leave, we would need to gather supplies. So why not take the long way.” You gave a small smile and went back to petting Altivo.
Tulio conceded and Miguel started blazing a trail.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The journey was as long as the one by boat. With many ups and downs, they seemed to be following the map. Or at least stumbling across the markers.
They had met many creatures along the way, they were unnaturally drawn to (Y/N). The main one being a friendly armadillo, which Altivo was not happy about. The thing followed you like a puppy. Having to fight for your attention was not at the top of the horses to do list. He already had to compete with two idiotic humans.
After countless perils, they found themselves tumbling down a cliff. As they came to Tulio was already complaining about a rock being the true El Dorado. The boys then began to argue.
(Y/N) turned your head towards the odd sound of heavy breathing and some sort of slapping. Poking your head around the slab, you saw a woman, running and glancing back. The woman darted around the slab and was surprised at the strangers.
A large group of armed men then came and surrounded the group. Seeing that the woman was the target, (Y/N) put the stranger between herself and the stone.
Chel was shocked that the first thought this other woman was protecting her. She looked between the horsemen and guards. Seeing an opportunity, she tossed the statue piece at them. This caused an impromptu game of hot potato.
Tulio attempted to explain, only to be socked in the head. They were then lead to a waterfall and loaded into boats.
The new woman stuck close to (Y/N) and the small group of animals.
After the boat landed the respective members went to alert their leaders. A tribe member to the chief and Acolyte to Tzekel-Kan.
The group stepped out of the boat and were overwhelmed by the sights around them. Tulio and Miguel couldn't believe their eyes. A whole city made of gold. Where as (Y/N) was unsure of how to feel about the wandering eyes on them. You wished that your disguise had survived the boat ride, Altivo was just more important. But you held your head high and kept a soft, reassuring hand on the other woman.
As the chief made his way to the group he was surprised. This group of strangers did seem different, but god like. He would keep that to himself for now.
The priest was only a moment behind, but what greeted him was heavenly. Two gods and a godess, including their majestic stead. His eyes lingered on the woman for longer than he would like to admit. Your ethereal appearance was almost to much for him to tear his gaze from. He greeted them boasterously, putting as much measured bravado as he could manage.
The chief welcomed the gods to the city. Not wanting to make the wrong move, the boys went along with it and you stayed silent.
The priest wanted a show of their godly power. Which started a tiff between the duo. Knowing that this could go on endlessly (Y/N) intervened. “Enough!”
Everyone turned as a nearby volcano sucked smoke back within itself. Cheers cascaded through out the crowd and all bowed.
They were then lead to their new home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the leader turned to the group the boys tried to look unbothered by the many steps. While you glanced around in a calculated manner. With a hand on the horses mane and the armadillo in the crook of your other arm you followed behind everyone.
Gesturing at the large palace, both of the important men offered a tribute. The duo put on an air of authority and agreed.
As the men left you couldn't help but shake your head. “You are both idiots. This is going to get us all killed.”
Miguel scoffed and said. “What are you talking about, they adore us.” He draped his arm around you should and sandwiched you between Tulio and himself. “Just listen to how good this sound. Miguel, (Y/N), and Tulio; mighty and powerful gods. “ Both men were beaming at the statement.
“Hello.”
The sudden intrusion caused everyone to tense. Facing the side entrance, they were surprised to see the woman they ran into earlier. While the boys tried to intimidate her, (Y/N) walked over and checked her over.
Chel knew that this was all a lie. Though since she met this woman, she could believe you were a goddess. Maybe a small part of her subconscious mind did believe it. “She's right, they will kill you. But if you had, I don’t know, an adviser. You would have a much easier time. Just a thought.”
The duo then began to discuss it, but you immediately nodded. “The choice is trust her or be completely in the dark. I say we take those odds.”
After everyone reluctantly agreed, everyone began getting ready for the feast.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chel, who had introduced herself, while leading you to an adjacent room. It contained a large pool in the center and random seating scattered about. She gestures to the pool and walked over to a carved out shelf, filled with various containers.
You gave the pool a long stare, but decided that not following their new adviser suggestion would be in poor taste. So disrobing quickly, you waded your way into the pool. Expecting the water to be frigid, you were pleasantly surprised by the warmth it held.
Relaxing against the wall of the pool, you noticed movement in the main chamber. The boys had changed and were already heading to the party. “Shouldn’t I be joining them?”
Chel laughed and shook her head. “A goddess is never late, everyone else is early.” She came over with a couple of bottles and sat behind the other woman. “Wet your hair.”
Doing as instructed, you relax further, as something was lathered into your hair. They enjoyed the peace that the bathing chamber gave. Chel pampered her savior and have you time to dry as she retrieved suitable clothing.
Waiting on one of the benches, you couldn't help but reflect on your current situation. Finally free of you r father and on a grand adventure. On the other hand you did have to keep up a lie, so as not to be killed. Though in retrospect your past and present were more similar than you would like to admit.
Chel came back and carried an ornate dress. It was closed to her own outfit, but a strapless one piece. It also had much more vivid colors, all details laid in gold. It was definitely different from your usual baggy afairs, but you supposed adhering to the local culture was a good thing. As you companion put the last touches on you, taking a deep breath, you made your way down the steps.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He despise celebrations such as these, but if it involved the gods, he felt obligated to join. He was considering making an exit, until the goddess made an appearance. You were glorious. Your gown was flowing and visage glowing. Tezel-kan wasn’t sure he had seen a more beautiful being.
As you made your way down the stairs, he couldn't help but sneer. The crowd met you. What did they think they were doing. You was leagues above them. You deserved to be with someone of a higher status. A priest perhaps. The thought made him giddy.
Heading over, his chest puffed out in assurance. He was sure to enjoy his company. But a frown mared features as he noticed the servant girl was hanging onto you. Though his features softened when he noticed the nurturing guidance his goddess gave the lowly other.
Finally reaching you, he gave a bow. “My Goddess, if you would allow it, I would love to accompany you this evening.” He met your gaze and extended a hand.
You gave the priest a discrete once over, prompted by Chel's hand squeezing your arm. But decided to disregard it. These people viewed you with the gods, so ignoring one of them would surely be frowned upon. Least of all the head priest. Nodding, you allowed him to guide you to a quieter area of the celebration. Honestly it was a relief, all the noise was becoming a bit much. When he spoke again you had to keep yourself from getting startled.
He enjoyed theses moments alone with his goddess. “How are you enjoying yourself in the city so far. My Goddess.” It was otherworldly to be with you. This close he could smell just what bathing oils you used. He was so focused on enjoying your scent, he almost missed your answer.
Smiling politely you said. “It's been pleasant. Chel has been helpful in adjusting ourselves.”
He had to keep his face from twisting into a scowl. The last thing he wanted you to speak highly of was that thief. But he could play the cordial ambassador. “It is so kind of you to take pity on such an unfortunate soul. I’m sure with your guidance she will blossom into a wonderful person.” He lays a reassuring hand on your arm.
Glancing at his hand, your heart rate raised. Living most of your life in hiding as a man and the rest locked away. It was flustering to have the attention of a handsome man. Still he believed you to be a goddess, his reality of you was warped. On top of that, it seemed he was talking down about your new ally. And that wouldn't do.
“That may very well be true. But I think your men could use a bit of ‘guidance' in not chasing unarmed girls with weapons. Now if you'll excuse me. “
As you walked away Tzekel-Kan had to keep himself from following you. Who knew a woman challenging him could be so endearing. The fire blazing in your eyes could light a thousand suns. He retired to his quarters, that beautiful expression haunting his dreams.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Waking the next morning was an experience. You were far from a hangover, unlike the boys, but waking up in a moving bed was bizarre. You woke the other two and pointed out your situation. They bounced ideas off each other until the platform was lowered. As you exited all eyes were on your group.
Chel tossed flower petals around and gave the trio a warning. Then Tzekel-Kan gave a morbid speech that ended with revealing a sickly man. You ran forward and caught him. Lowering him into your lap, you were relieved to hear Miguel and Tulio dissolve the tension. With the man's life spared, you insisted on helping take him home to rest.
While most watched you in awe for your compassion, Tzekel-Kan was seething. Not only did the tribute displeasure you, the other two gods dismissed him so flippantly. Though he too was moved by your caring nature. He couldn't help but imagine what a wonderful mother you would make. He would have to tuck that thought away for later though. Right now he needed to get on your good side.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Helping return the man to his home, you saw to it that he was accommodated to. Leaving you realized that you had no plans for the day. Looking around you noticing no people in sight. It was odd, but a break from the hustle and bustle of being a goddess was nice. A stroll seemed the most relaxing, so off you went.
The peace didn’t last long though. The armadillo ran up to you, being chased by a group of very large brightly color birds. You scooped up your small companion and looked at the birds in awe. They had to be the largest animals you had ever seen. Sticking a hand out you waited with baited breath. The smallest of the group lowered it’s head and lightly nipped at your finger tips. Jolting in surprise you splayed your fingers apart and let it explore your hand. Seeing that their friend was getting all the attention. The others joined in on checking out the new person. As they nosed around your person, you remembered that there was still a bit of grain in your pocket. Presenting it to the creatures, you were rewarded with enthusiastic pecking. You smiled at being able to offer your new friends something.
A sudden movement caught you eye. Someone that was large, with a spotted pelt, started behind a nearby corner. Squinting in the general direction, you shrugged . If they wanted to talk, they could approach you. On the other hand, with your status, you weren’t sure how many people would be comfortable with that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Acolyte was nervous as he went up the stairs of the temple. He had been spotted rather quickly. A fact he knows Tzekel-Kan would not be happy with. Stealing himself he called out. “I’m back, sir.”
“Yes, I noticed.” He stepped from behind Acolyte and frowned. “Judging by how quickly you returned, I can on guess that you were unsuccessful in finding her.
The underling gulped. “No, she was easy to find. “
The other man’s expression brightened. “Then your quick return must be great news.
Steepling his fingers, he took a moment to think of the best way to answer. “ Not quite. She helped the man home and started to wander. Until she saw a small creature being chased by a flock of large birds. So she cradled the small animal while feeding the birds. But then she spotted me, which I knew staying would only be suspicious. So I came to tell you where she was and what information I could gather. “ He spilt out the gathered intelligence as quickly as he could. Hoping that Tzekel-Kan might not catch the part about getting caught. Though the look on his face said otherwise.
Rubbing his temple, he tried to relieve the headache that was starting to take over. “What should I expect. Sending an imbecile to complete a simple task.” With that he quickly walked out of the temple. It seemed like he was going to have to approach his goddess directly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were enjoying cooling your feet in a small pond, when someone cleared their throat. Turning you notice the man that had started to occupy your mind, Tzekel-Kan.
“Do you mind if I join you?”
“Go ahead. “
He sat beside you and joined in dipping his feet in the pond. “I’ve come to apologize for upsetting you. It was never my intention.”
“Ok.”
He wasn’t expecting that. Maybe if he turned up the charm. “ I would never wish to offend a beauty such as yourself. “
You have him a sharp look. “And I wish to never see a living being slaughtered in front of me again. ”
His brow furrowed. “Do the gods not wish to receive worthy sacrifices?”
You wanted so badly to drop the act, but knowing what the result could be, you held your tongue. “It is not what I wish. From the reaction, it seemed like most were also against it. “
He scramble for words. “But this is the way it’s always been. How could the gods not want that? “
Bringing your feet out, you stood and turned from him. “Perhaps it time to live in the future, instead of suffering in the past.” With that you left him speechless, once again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day was much livelier. Miguel had convinced everyone that being out and about wasn’t against the gods will. So being approached was a constant. It was nice to see so many happy faces though.
It was especially nice to see Altivo getting pampered. The horse had much the same life you had, when it came to the tyrant lording over you both.
In all it was a pleasent, if not busy, day. Settling into your sleeping quarters that evening, you didn't expect someone to call out to you. Heading for the door, you were confused by who was waiting for you. A man in a familiar spotted pelt was standing in the doorway.
“Um, Tzekel-Kan would like to request your company this evening. Goddess.” He ended with a nervous bow.
Crossing your arms you considered the offer. “Is there any reason he chose night? “
This seemed to fluster the man even more. “He had many duties today and only became free this evening. Goddess.”
Knowing that it may be to much effort to refuse you agreed. But on the stipulation he would take you now. Being made an early riser, you preferred to bed down earlier than most.
He nodded and quickly lead you to the priest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tzekel-Kan had been preparing for you all afternoon. Acolyte had done the cleaning, while he put everything in the perfect place. The temple had never looked better. Though he had personally cleaned his quarters, should anything lead there.
Now he paced and anxiously awaited your arrival. He had given what you said a lot of thought. He spent the rest of the previous day frustrated. This was how the Gods were taught to them. He had always dreamt of living to appease the Gods. But he had displeased the loveliest of them. Waking the next morning, he had an idea. Maybe if he showed you what was taught, then you would understand. And if the text was incorrect, then you could guide them back on the path of righteousness.
He grinned at that thought. That could mean countless nights of pouring over many tomes. Who knows just how long it could take.
Hearing steps aproaching, he stopped pacing. Leaning against a near by wall, he tried to seem aloof. As you strode in, he couldn't help but take your stunning form. He may not like Chel, but he knew she had gotten you to show off your voluptuous figure. The way the flowing garments hug your body made him envious of them. Your wide birthing hips were particularly tantalizing on display. He could drink up the sight of you for all of eternity. He would worship you passionately to his last breath. If only he could convince you of the truth behind his thoughts.
Tonight would be the first step to that.
“Good evening My Goddess. I am so glad you accepted my invitation.” He swept his hand over to a plush seating area in the corner. “If you’d be so so kind to join me, there is something I wish to show you. “
And so you did join him. He showed you all he had to offer in way of writings about the gods. Page upon page of stories. It was all so intriguing. There were so many legends. Many centuries of catalogs. You absorbed all of it.
He was elated at your amazement of the information his people had of the Gods. It was truly an honor to share this with you. The way your eyes shown with each new story was addictive. He could imagine regaling you with tales for his life. Even the thought of telling children, your children, if he could ever be so lucky.
Though the tone ssuddenly shifted as he brought out the book of the Jaguar. “It is actually the year of the Jaguar, My Goddess.” His skillful fingers flipped through the pages. Landing on a particular etched picture of an imposing anything armored figure.
A shudder traveled down your spine. “I don’t want to read this one.”
“Nonsense, this text is of the most importance right now. “
You placed a hand on his arm. This caused him to look at you. He was surprised at the vulnerable expression It held. He shut the book and took your hand in his own. You looked away for a moment, then faced him with a new resolve.
“It reminds me of my father. I despise him. He is nothing but a plague on this world. Something that erodes all good and leaves only a path of destruction in his wake. I would rather die than go back in his care.” Your eyes held a far off glassy look to them. Reliving all of the past torment you had gone through.
Tzekel-Kan acted without thought and brought you into an embrace. He stayed silent and gave you a physical answer. Words would have been useless anyway.
And that was where you spent your night. Embraced in each other's arms.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you walk to your home the next morning, you couldn't wipe the smile from your face. Maybe all the heartache you had been through was worth it. If you were to spend it in a place like this, with people this wonderful.
But that feeling fell away as the boys met you at the entrace.
“Where do you think you've been young lady? “ Tulio's tone was much to authoritarian for your taste.
“I just stay somewhere else last night.” You tried to not let any annoyance slip through.
“Oh so you weren't with a certain priest, that follows you around like a puppy. “ Miguel add his two cents, though with a bit less accusation in his voice.
“What if I was? It’s not like it interferes with your plan of robbing these people.” You looked between the duo, a glare set on your face.
Tulio pointed an indignant finger at you. “ Hey! You’ve gone along with this plan. Don’t pretend like you aren’t a part of it. “
Taking the few steps that separated you, your chest met as you hissed in his face. “The only plan i’ve been apart of is not getting us killed. You two on the other hand want to take advantage of the only people who have given us a fair chance at a good life. I didn’t get us all away from Cortez just to become like him.” You were breathless by the end of your speech. Turning away to cool down and not say anything you may really regret.
Miguel however had to pry. “ What does Cortez have to do with this?”
With a expression of disheartened fury you said. “Cortez is my father.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You couldn't stand to stay another moment. Walking as quickly as you could, without seeming suspicious, you left. Heading to the secluded pond you spent time with Tzekel-Kan, you didn't notice a figure follow.
Sitting at the edge of the pool, you angrily wiped your eyes. Frustrated tears gathered and you rubbed them away before they could fall.
“Pardon Goddess.” A kind, compassionate voice called out.
Startled, you turned and saw the Chief. He was waving a hand and gestured next to you. You shrugged and curled in on yourself. Sitting beside you he gave you a few moments to compose yourself.
Hearing your breathing calm he said. “You know, Tzekel-Kan and I haven't always seen eye to eye. But the last few days, i’ve never seen him smile so much.”
This comment caused you to perk up. “ Really? “
With a knowing smile he nodded. “Yes. He always seemed to be angry. Like the world was against him and he needed to make it pay. You though, you bring out the good in him. I honestly haven't seen him this happy since we were children. “
“He makes me happy too. I’ve never felt so wanted and protected.” You almost teared up at how true that really was. “Tulio and Miguel aren’t happy about it. We haven't known each other for very long, but we’ve been through a lot together. If it wasn’t for them I would still be a slave to my father. “ You gave a hard sniffle and sunk further into yourself.
He laid a reassuring hand on your back. “If they truly care for you, then your happiness is included. No matter the decision, you are welcome to stay or go. All people are welcome to our city.”
“You’re to good to us.”
“Compassion should never turn it’s back on those in need. No matter their past.” He patted your back and stood.
Your eyes widen as you realized what could be hiding behind his kind words.
~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning was full of tension. Tulio was heading out with Chel and a boat full of gold. While Miguel, Altivo, and yourself were staying behind. It hurt to see how broken apart your group had become, but it seemed to be what everyone had settled on. Even with Miguel staying, you still said little to each other.
You hugged Chel as she went to board the ship and glanced at Tulio. There was so much left unsaid, but never the right time to say it. Sending a sad nod his way you turned to go to Tzekel-Kan. He placed an arm around your waist. He may not have liked the two others you came with. However they were the reason he had met you. So he could let them slide just a bit.
Watching the split between the boys tugged at your heart. Until you noticed the smoke in the distance. Eyes wide you rushed to their side. “He’s coming!”
Rolling his eyes at your dramatics Tulio said. “ No, i’m leaving. “
“Not you. Cortez. He must have tracked us in some way. But how could he… “ The map flashed in your mind. “I knew that map looked familiar. Did you win it from one of his crewman?”
MigueI's eyes darted as he thought, then widened in shock. “Yes.”
Grabbing both of their arms you looked at both of them with pleasing eyes. “ We have to save them. “
The duo stared at each other, then nodded. They went to the boat, but stopped you when you went to follow. “If this doesn't work, then you need to help them. You should know Cortez better than anyone.” You had never seen such a serious expression on Miguel's face.
Nodding you went over to Tzekel-Kan and drug him to the Chief. “My father is coming. The boys are coming up with a plan, but they’re going to need all the support they can get.”
~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The last minute plan wasn't perfect, but it would have to work. Tulio and Chel would guide the boat into the cave pillars. While everyone else would knock over nearby structures. The force between the water and boat should seal the entrance.
The Chief and Miguel set to gathering peop!e and materials. Tzekel-Kan pulled you towards the temple to prepare a powerful weapon. He put the ingredients in and was surprised when the incantation didn't work. Anxiety squeezed at your chest. In desperation, you sliced you palm and held it over the vat. He looked at you in astonishment and a flash of understanding was in his gaze.
A large statue at the far side of the room leaped from the wall. You were startled, until you realized that Tzekel-Kan's movements matched the stone beast.
Sprinting back to the entrance, of the city. They had already began their plan. But the sails weren’t coming down. In a panic, Miguel road Altivo and released it. Leaving behind any chance of staying in El Dorado.
You wanted to cheer as the sail caught the wind, but you noticed the left tower wasn’t falling forward. You desperately tugged Tzekel-Kan over to the stable tower. “Push!”
He quickly realized the problem and helped you shove at it. With the assistance of the stone Jaguar, you managed to level the pillar.
With a great cheer echoing through the city, you turned to him. Heart racing you brought his face to yours in a jovial kiss. He promptly reciprocate, hand tangling around you and holding you flush to him.
A second cheer rang out and you realized that all of the city had witnessed your intimate moment. Embarrassment colored your cheeks, Tzekel-Kan raised a hand and whooped out an enthusiastic yell.
Looking over the crowd, your eyes caught the Chief’s. He gave you an amused nod and smiled. You returned the smile and kissed Tzekel-Kan again. Breaking apart you let out your own exclamation. Then interlocked your hand with his, raising it.
You hoped that the friends, who had just risked themselves for this city, were ok. Still you can’t help but feel like everything was going to work itself out for the better.
My two moods in writing canon-divergence plotpoints (with some examples I feel passionate about in no particular order)
"Yes, canon is acceptable, but consider..."
○Hiccup x Jack ○Jay Gatsby x Nick Carraway end game ○Pitch Black redemption arc ○Tony Stark surviving the snap ○Alec Ryder remaining alive but still had to transfer S.A.M. to his son/daughter so they still become a Pathfinder ○Gregory Sackville-Bagg getting more screentime than Anna Sackville-Bagg ○Miguel being in a threesome with Tulio x Chel ○Camillo joining Mirabel in her quest to save the miracle, so Pepa's side of the family and their struggle could also be addressed. ○Chai snapping at Peppermint once for her being bossy and being valid about it.
"Just because it's canon doesn't mean it should be..."
❌Stoick dying ❌Toothless leaving ❌Gatsby dying ❌The original Gamora dying ❌Jason Grace dying ❌Pedro not surviving and the miracle shows up before the sacrifice was completed ❌Ali, Saebyeok, Sangwoo, Jiyeong, and Junho dying ❌Finnick and Prim dying ❌Zagreus not finding out exactly what Sisyphus did to Thanatos because it could've led to an awesome secret boss fight with Sisyphus. ❌Daedalus not being a character in the 'Hades' games with his own story of not seeing his son Icarus, who's has a secret relationship with Apollo.
I have an actual idea for a possible story for Shiny and the weasels! I mean like something that could be a multi chapter fanfic?? I'll never get around to it, I know. But I still wanted to tell you about it since I think you might like it ^^
Somehow, the weasels are brought back to life, sans Smartass since he needs to be drawn again (I'm still figuring this out, though). But it's the 70's-80's, now. Toontown is so different, and the boys stick out like sore thumbs. They all run into Shiny while she's on the run from the police. I'm debating whether or not the five of them all manage to run away, or they all get brought to the station. I'm leaning more towards the latter, though, since Shiny actually recognizes them all and can see they are struggling with adjusting to modern Toontown, and offers her assistance in exchange for theirs (with what, I'm not sure. By now, Shiny has mostly moved on from the burlesque life and is mainly a home brewer who dabbles in various crimes. Maybe she tells them she needs help covering her tracks, or she wants to get out of Toontown. I'm debating it 😅).
I'm kind of imagining the exchange happening similarly to Chel and Miguel and Tulio from The Road to El Dorado (which is kind of fitting, since I recently rewatched the movie and it was what inspired me this plot XD)
Greasy, absolutely not checking Shiny out while regarding her with suspicion: And why should we help you, eh?
Stupid: But why not? She's trying to help us!
Wheezy: Not for free, though...
Shiny: Ah, you're right. Why should you? I mean, after all. You all definitely know what's been happening in Toontown, all the three decades you all have been dead.
Greasy: =_=
Shiny: You are all very much aware of all the secrets these toons, old and new, have. You already know the new laws that have been laid out...
Weasels: *glancing to each other*
Shiny: Oh! And we can't forget your designs!! You don't at all need to know how to adjust them to fit in with the times? Of course not. Especially not from me, who's been at this since the 30's-
Greasy: !?!? There is nothing wrong with my style!-
Shiny: So you don't need my help? To keep the pigs off your tails while you figure out how to bring your boss back? I'm certain they'll be so understanding with you boys trying to dip the whole town-
Greasy, waving his hands to get her to shut up before the guards overhear: Alright! Alright, we can negotiate, hermosa...
Yeah, this idea is still half baked. But I'm thinking that for a sequal fic with Griny, this is how they get together. I also have a scene in my head where, after they start to get closer, Shiny and Greasy sit down together with a box of photos she has from her whole life. Some of them just places Shiny wanted to remember, some of them with her coworkers who have all gone on to do their own thing. Some of the photos just Shiny all on her own... And in the middle of this, while looking at some photos of Shiny in her club days, Greasy wonders aloud how he never heard of such a beauty when he was alive. And Shiny just shrugs, saying how they probably did see each other. He's a hound, and she worked in the profession that Greasy would have dumped his money in the most; he most like was one of her clients at some point, "But neither of us cared enough to actually see each other. Not like how we do now." Just a very deep moment between them both that shows each other how they think and how far they've come.
//This is adorable! I'm seeing Shiny meet up with the boys in like, a jail cell and her reaching through the bars juuust slightly to persuade Greasy and grind him down. And them being in the 1980s is a yes from me as you know 😆 40 years on, how things have changed, how they will continue to change etc.
As for Smartass being brought back to life I did read a fic once where the weasels got his old model sheets and found a photo copier that worked like a reanimator and brought him back that way and he's conpletely disorientated but soon his memory starts to jog. I'd be curious to see just how much he remembers from their old job and fighting Eddie Valiant. And of course, Greasy finally getting a woman who can keep him under her thumb understand him! 😂
⭐ i'd love to hear your director's commentary on how marius won the hand :D
THANK U for the ask!! You probably already read my dir. commentary on Ch. 5 and Ch. 6 of How Marius Won the Hand [...], so I'll jump back and do a commentary on Ch. 4 of the fic!
Tumblr media
I confess: I had no idea what to name Courferre so I picked the two names I feel I've heard the most often when it came to fan-assigned names. And not to give any spoilers, but Courfeyrac's name will come into play again in the future!
Also not to pull a Hugo but I wanted to emphasize how pretty Cosette was lol. Needed to give her and Enjolras some physical similarities first (beauty, etc.) before some spiritual similarities later on in the story!
Tumblr media
Cosette canonically loves to tease Marius! See:
Ten years later, with the love of Marius in her heart, she would have answered: “A pedant, and insufferable to the sight! You are right!” (4.3.7)
“Monsieur, you are handsome, you are good-looking, you are witty, you are not at all stupid, you are much more learned than I am, but I bid you defiance with this word: I love you!” (4.8.1)
“Don’t cough, sir; I will not have people cough on my domain without my permission. It’s very naughty to cough and to disturb me.” (4.8.1)
And so I needed Cosette to have her spunk here as well!
Tumblr media
Ninny mention!! *cue cheers and applause* Wanted the Valjean reveal to be Hugo-esque ("omg who could this mysterious old man be 🤭") and I'm glad ppl noticed it! Also, Valjean hates Marius so much that I NEEDED to include it, though I suppose Ch. 6 is a lot more obvious with it.
Tumblr media
Pilf wrote an excellent post about what Valjean's dynamics with the Amis would be like. Though the context in this fic is quite different (Courferre + Marius having to gain Valjean's favour) but I still think it fits! Courfeyrac would be far too Courfeyrac-ish to gain Valjean's immediate liking, in contrast to Cosette who would love Courf immediately (which only just worsens Courfeyrac's standing). Combeferre, however, is able to stick to safer topics! They're just Two Polite Men. This fic has also only just hinted at Enjolras' and Valjean's father/son dynamic so far but it's very close to Pilf's post on it too. They do not talk to each other at ALL; they will sit in silence together for hours and enjoy it. That's their father/son bonding time babey!
Tumblr media
A call back to an earlier part of the chapter when Marius tried to make sure that "his palms were not slick with sweat". Mission failed!
Tumblr media
I like to write Courferre stumbling over each other trying to impress Cosette. Idk I just feel like they have that sort of energy à la Tulio and Miguel from The Road to El Dorado.
Tumblr media
I'm really glad ppl liked this scene ehe. How did Marius drink soup with a fork? Just part of his Pontmercying shenanigans I suppose.
Tumblr media
Cosette being shocked at Enjolras taking her hand is the same energy as someone getting shocked when a particularly introverted cat suddenly comes up and sits on their lap. I hc that Enjolras isn't a very tactile person (which could be canonically derived from his only-two-kisses moment), so Cosette appreciates any physical displays of affection she can get!
Tumblr media
I argue that the main thing Marius lacked in canon that could have given him a proper 'character development' was the belief that he could have a solid support system outside of bourgeois circles. He was so close to connecting with Les Amis de l'ABC but he ultimately fell back into a self-deprecating hole once his world views were challenged. In this fic I hope to get Marius to reconnect with Les Amis on a personal level first (via Cosette and Enjolras) before attempting to push him towards connecting with them politically (and he's already beginning to, in Ch. 5!).
And it's no surprise that the first person he reaches for when he realises that he DOES have actual friends is Courfeyrac! Writing this fic and rereading les mis letters has got me in my Courfius feels; Courf was such a good friend to Marius and (fic spoilers?) is definitely deserving of being his chief groomsman!
And that's it for my Ch. 4 analysis! Sorry for the late answer lol; immediately after reblogging the post I got thrown 5 different assignment deadlines.
If anyone wants any other fic analysis (or even an AU analysis as a whole!) feel free to ask! I'm only one message away from blabbering like an idiot <3.
An alternate take on "The Road to El Dorado" (2000)
Tumblr media
As seen in my other post, the 2000s was a "meh" time for animation, in my opinion. One of the "meh" films was 2000's "The Road to El Dorado." My first rewrite for a Dreamworks film, I'd be honored for you to read how my own vision of the film would play out.
Tumblr media
It's a musical in the traditional sense. A big issue I had with this film and Disney's "Tarzan" is that it's a musical, but most of the songs are sung as narration rather than the characters themselves singing it. Plus I do want MORE songs than we got, things that expand on the character's natures and personalities (ie a villain song by Tzekel-Khan, a love song between Chel and Tulio, etc.)
Tumblr media
2. Speaking of expanding on the characters: how are Miguel and Tulio friends? Why are they stuck together? Why is Chel intent on leaving her home? What made Tzekel-Khan so devout and obsessed with carnage and destruction when no one else seems to be in it? In my rewrite, we answer these questions. Let's start with Tulio. Tulio is the illigitimate child of a wealthy lord from Spain, and despite his best attempts, is not elegant, intelligent, or handsome (not saying he's ugly) enough to warrant any attention from his biological father's side of the family to make them claim him. As such, he grew bitter with his poverty and tried his best to use his cleverness (one of his strengths, along with his practicality) to gain fame and fortune--not just because he wants it for himself, but also to get his noble family's attention. The lack thereof has left him very pessimistic, as well as making him always try to better himself by reading and engaging in physical activity (he's not as skinny as in the OG film; he steals to get his nourishment). However, you see him as a bit more caring, albeit stern; if Miguel was an indulgent father or brother figure, Tulio was his strict counterpart. Like Miguel, he's a people pleaser, but at the slightest sign of disinterest, he becomes a loner to save himself the stress.
Tumblr media
3. As for Miguel, I like the idea that he doesn't have a sad backstory like Tulio (though I did have something darker planned originally). Instead, he comes from a loving family, but he ran away so they'd have one less person to care for, and due to his innocence, is easily charmed, seduced, and mislead, despite Tulio's attempts to sober his point of view on the world. As a result, Tulio feels a bit of guilt, since Miguel has been plagued with misfortune since they met, though Miguel doesn't hold that against him. He's a talented athlete and musician, though unlike Tulio, who had to work for it, is naturally gifted. He met Tulio in the slums one day and refused to leave him alone after seeing how depressed he was. I definitely think that once in El Dorado, he is the more exotified of the duo, due to his gold hair. The attention he receives does stroke his lust, but he's still heartfelt, and concerned about getting his heart broken again, especially feeling like he's a burden to Tulio, who has to put it back together often.
Tumblr media
4. First off: Chel isn't as sexualized, and her age is clearly defined as close to Miguel and Tulio (I say this because someone thought she was a teenager). I know she was given a bit skimpy clothing to match the PG-13 vibe, but you can be sexy without your cultural outfit being appropriated. I also like the idea that Chel is an orphan (otherwise her parents not being in the film makes NO SENSE), and posed as an apprentice to Tzekel-Khan, though this was only to steal a piece of gold in order to use it as currency when she left. She isolates herself from the community due to her loneliness and has a taste for trouble. As such, she vows to leave the city of gold. Or she could just be curious about the outside world. Either explanation works.
Tumblr media
5. The weirdest thing about Tzekel-Khan is that he isn't evil in the traditional sense; his bloodlust and desire for destruction are fueled by his culture and belief that this will bring a new dawn of man. It's weird that despite being the high priest, he has no followers or people who share in his beliefs. The film was probably trying to convey that everyone else believed in the same things he did, but felt horrified by it all the same. In any case, it would've been cool if his prophetic abilities and various magical skills weren't used at the very last minute; we can see him prophesizing and reading the stars more often, perhaps equating his madness to a divine prophecy he foresaw as a youth that made his beliefs more maniacal, and his obsession with sacrifice happens whenever he goes a while without having a vision. He's desperate to understand the divine ways, and only Miguel and Tulio can stop him.
5. Miguel and Tulio wear several outfits. Perhaps it's that I'm bored with they're standard outfits, but I'd love seeing them in the more colorful clothing of El Dorado. It's just a preference of mine. I'd love to see Miguel in more purples and greens while Tulio is in blue and pink (referencing his romance with Chel).
Tumblr media
6. Tulio never betrays Miguel. Part of the reason I despise Tulio is how he walks back on his deal of neither him nor Miguel being involved with Chel and telling Chel to "forget Miguel." In my rewrite, their rift comes from wanting two different things. Similar to their argument of wanting to stay or go, Tulio insults Miguel for wanting the adoration of people who only like him because he's someone he's not and can never be, partially projecting his own insecurities onto him. Tulio regrets this immediately, but doesn't realize how deeply it affects Miguel. While Tulio becomes more open and social, Miguel becomes a recluse, pessimistic and easily angered. During the ball game (which happens earlier in my rewrite), Miguel banishes Tzekhel-Khan, showing Tulio how irritable he's become, and they reconcile. Along with this, Chel is romantically interested in both of them, and doesn't really go with one over the other, but they adhere to their medieval bro code, and she doesn't mind since she's getting out of there with them anyway. It's during this area of the film where we get flashbacks to their childhoods to explain their POVs.
Tumblr media
8. Chief Tannabok and Tzekel-Khan's rivalry is explained. In my opinion, it's kinda like a religious branching; while they believe in similar things, Chief Tannabok has a "radical" belief that the gods do not require human sacrifice. He isn't suspicious about Tulio and Miguel being human until they want to leave, but isn't upset since they were brought against their own will, banished Tzekel-Khan, and don't ask for nearly as much gold as in the original film. He also sees Chel as a troubled child and attempts to supervise her, but she views this as patronizing (especially since she's an adult) and is annoyed by him for it.
Tumblr media
8. The ending isn't so..anticlimatic. I know we had the big battle earlier, but having Tzekel-Khan defeated simply because Cortes didn't see El Dorado and assumed he was lying was a little disappointing for me, especially since Tzekel-Khan can be persuasive when needed and the parameters of his magic have not been fully explained--not to mention the fate that Tzekhel-Khan probably became a slave simply because he's an indigenous American. I know he's a bad guy, but there's something off about selling the villain into slavery and being seen as inferior due to their race for the rest of their lives. He saw Tulio and Miguel as gods, while Cortes saw him as a savage. IDK, maybe I'm overthinking it. In any case, I'd alter this slightly; Miguel banishes Tzekhel-Khan, and he actually leaves, starting to become disillusioned by what he perceives to be misinterpreted visions. Rather than losing his faith, he starts to ponder if the fault lies with him. This of course is reversed when he meets Cortes, and he becomes an ally to him. Being away from his home, his powers are limited, though his spellbook gives him a necessary boost. He summons the large jaguar to ravage the city and chase the people out in order to be captured by Cortes' army, though when Miguel and Tulio are injured, he realizes they aren't divine. Fully rejuvinated with his faith, he attempts to kill them, but they (along with Chel and Altivo) outsmart him and Cortes. The army retreats, and Cortes confiscates Tzekhel-Khan's spellbook to keep him powerless, though he says that Tzekhel-Khan may prove useful to him someday, since the conquistadors aren't done with the New World. Meanwhile, Chel, Miguel, and Tulio manage to take SOME of their gold with them, and decide to return to Spain (though Chel does suggest exploring more of the area). The audience is left guessing where they end up going.
Lemme know what you think! I hope you enjoyed my alternate take on it.
CD's Movie Poll #1 Winner
The Road to El Dorado
* fair warning: spoilers ahead *
Kicking off the start of my movie poll/movie watching series is Dreamworks’ The Road to El Dorado!
Tumblr media
ngl this film has been on my watchlist for quite a while, and yet I never got around to actually watching it until now! (or rather, not until the other night lol) I’d heard so many great things about it before like the memorable characters, the kind of 2D animation that you really don’t see in Dreamworks films these days, and of course, the music!
I will say that I really enjoyed all three of those things in some ways and others 🤩
Right off the bat, Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh have really great chemistry! In fact, I loved their chemistry so much that I wanted to see footage of them recording their lines. so I legit looked up something like “road to el dorado behind the scenes” on youtube as soon as I finished watching the film and found that not only did they do ALL their voice recording sessions together in the same room but they also used plastic swords and playfully had it at each other!! AHHHHHH! so good!! 😂 ⚔️
but yeah they're hilarious! both on screen and behind it. I also just love the fact that both Kevin and Kenneth come from theater backgrounds cause I think that definitely added to how well they portrayed being con men 🎭
Ofc actors aside, some of you probably know this about me already, but I’m a BIG fan of dynamic duos when it comes to media...
Tumblr media
I loved the straight man-ness that was Tulio, and he was probably my favorite of the two. I tend to like characters that find comfort in strategy, cause I tend to be that kinda person too. I know sometimes the logical and level-headed ones aren't always funny, entertaining, or the people to root for in the slightest. But Tulio definitely isn't one of them. I found myself chuckling at a good number of things he said and did like not believing in fate simply cause he relies on loaded dice for example, plus his sarcasm, and how much he tried to compose his patience as well
Miguel was great too! It was fun how much he loved the city of El Dorado and just wanted to take it all in, and his endless optimism of course! But he definitely needed more guitar playing scenes! idk there’s something about those characters who just have an instrument to play at the ready for dramatics that’s really humorous for me, it’s almost, if not totally, breaking the fourth wall in a way 😆
I also really enjoyed the Chief, I love how it’s implied that he knew all along Miguel and Tulio were humans and not gods and yet he still liked them and let them stay anyway. that said, it's kind of a shame that the pair didn't stay in el dorado cause there genuinely were people there who adored them when clearly the people of Spain didn’t…heck they didn't seem to have a problem that they weren't actually gods!
and you have to admit, Miguel and Tulio did match the stone art of the gods quite nicely, like the resemblance there was freaky 😳
Chel was great as well, her cleverness and way of sweet talking definitely stood out to me the most about her character, and I also really loved her voice! 😌
and Altivo the horse? I wanna say he was truly Miguel’s companion when compared to Tulio earning the heart of Chel. after all, Miguel was the one who wanted to rescue him and bring him along, and I was genuinely happy when they decided to bring him on their journey cause the horse wasn’t a bad guy, like he not only gave Tulio and Miguel the keys to escape the ship, but he wasn’t spiteful to them or anything. basically what I’m trying to say is he isn’t how Maximus treated Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert initially, horse to con man
As for the villain? well…this is the first of three times I’m gonna be saying, “I got some Aladdin vibes from this movie" 😅 👉👈 which isn’t completely a bad thing by any means!
But yeah…I immediately got Jafar vibes the minute Tzekel-Kan came on screen (also I had to look up this name cause I didn’t catch it very well while I was watching this film, I just kept calling him “Priest Guy”)
I mean…the fact that he can do sorcery, on top of serving a sweet kind-hearted ruler, tangling with not just one but two thieves, anybody picking up what I’m putting down? Yeah that’s really all I gotta say about that guy 🤷🏻‍♀️
also I swear to god that Jim Cummings is in literally everything that was 2D-animated in the 1990s-2000s! and he's always gotta play that big tough guy. Again, that also reminded me of Aladdin. but then again the conquistador didn’t really have that big of a role in this, at the very least I just hope he gave T-K what he got coming to him
I guess just to get it out of the way, I was admittedly humming "One Jump Ahead" in the beginning when Tulio and Miguel are getting chased through the city, but that’s all there is in terms of Aladdin similarities the way i see it
lastly in terms of the characters and cast, I gotta give credit to Elton John for being part of it too! I mean who doesn't love a singing narrator? and he and Tim Rice did an awesome job crafting the soundtrack for this film. every song was absolutely BEAUTIFUL 🎶 ✨
Needless to say, the animation was 👌 and the opening sequence was definitely one of my favorites throughout the whole film as well as the expressions and the solid movements of the characters, very well done no question there. oh! and how there were just gold objects of anything from butterflies to apples in el dorado! they didn’t call it the city of gold for nothing! ✨✨✨
but in the end, did it really have go the route of the overall goal is get all the gold by the end only to actually lose most, if not all, of it by the end? I just feel like that plot line is done a lot in movies. tho to be fair, this was made in the 2000s so heck, it probably began that trend. But I’ve found in recent years that when it comes to treasure hunting movies, this exact scenario happens just repeatedly and it’s nothing new. I’d say movies like The Goonies and Uncharted are two that come to mind for me that have this happen...
Tumblr media
Now there’s no way I can conclude my thoughts here without saying how AMAZING the “It’s Tough to Be a God” sequence was! I LOVED the “It's Tough to Be a God" sequence from the singing of the two leads to the colors to the everything about it, it was all magnificent! I'd arguably say it was my favorite scene in the whole film! And I'd be lying if I said that Miguel and Tulio’s version hasn't been stuck in my head ever since I watched it, because so help me it HAS and STILL IS and why that version is not on Spotify, I have no clue, but it SHOULD be. Again, props to Elton and Tim for writing this song and the others!!
Tumblr media
So overall, I thought El Dorado was a great movie! It was definitely worth the watch! It's not perfect by any means, I'm not even sure it's my favorite Dreamworks film, but it was still very fun and entertaining all the same and I'm really glad that I finally got to see it after all these years! 🤗
Family movies often have two secondary comic relief characters that barely understand what’s going on, to act as comedic foils to the main characters. In its early days, Dreamworks decided in its contest with Disney, to make a movie about Those Two Guys.
Hence, The Road to El Dorado, a comedic (familyish?) animated take on The Man Who Would Be King set in Mesoamerica right before the Spanish Conquest.
The Road to El Dorado tells the story of Miguel and Tulio, two hustlers from Spain that find a map to the City of Gold and (accidentally!) stowaway on Cortes’s ship to the New World. Upon arrival to El Dorado, they are mistaken for gods. Being con men, they roll with it, though keeping up the charade becomes pretty difficult the longer they stay, even with the help of Chell, a native dissident.
There is a persistent rumor that the movie was originally conceived with the leads being a gay couple, and that Chell was added later as Tulio’s love interest to please censors. That’s not actually true, and the earliest work we’ve seen on the movie includes Chell. The Internet loves to roll with these things, though, and as TV Tropes notes, Kenneth Brannagh (who voices Miguel) apparently added openly affectionate bits to his dialogue, calling Tulio ‘darling’ and such. This was cut from the movie, but somehow made it onto the subtitles of some home releases?
It’s undeniable that the leads have very good chemistry, though. They managed this by putting Kline and Brannagh in the same recording booth. That sounds like an obvious choice, but you’d be amazed how seldomly this is done, probably due to scheduling issues with voice actors. Usually you can’t tell when it happens or not (though sometimes you can–look at how both Geralt and Letho say the name ‘Louis’ in The Witcher III while talking to each other, and see what I mean). The result is a very believable relationship between the two characters. You believe that these two have been through a lot. They’re loads of fun to watch throughout almost the entire film, and they bounce off each other very well.
Wikipedia claims that the gods that Miguel and Tulio are mistaken for, and who appear on the art for El Dorado, are the Hero Twins. I don’t know that there’s any indication that’s the case, other than there are two of them and they’re Mesoamaerican.
Also, Jim Cummings? Is Cortes? I know he’s an experienced voice actor with a ton of range, but Winnie the Pooh is voicing Cortes and that’s darn weird.
[Random side note: like, okay, I’m not a huge fan of Cortes, but in real life he didn’t sail from Spain to go conquer Mexico. In fact, he wasn’t even supposed to conquer Mexico. He went and did that on his own, much to the frustration of his superiors.]
On the subject of characters: Chell is… interesting. Like, okay, she’s an indigenous woman with her own goals, who is clever, and is pretty forward about getting what she wants. On the other, she’s quite blatantly designed and animated to be fanservice, and there are times when she comes across as a stereotype of a Spicy Latina, and I’m not thrilled about that. This would have been helped, I think, if we learned more about her backstory.
Random character note: The armadillo, Bibo, was supposedly (I can’t find a source on this other than TV Tropes) originally going to be revealed as some sort of divine figure, and explained why the characters are so lucky. That got cut from the film.
The movie WAS originally planned to be a more mature film–strands of which remained. Remember Prince of Egypt? The idea was that animated movies didn’t have to be for kids, so The Road to El Dorado was thought of as a way to cover heavy topics and ideas, making an epic film with some humor that just happened to be animated. They decided to tone it down to be more marketable, and I’m wondering if that was the smart choice. The movie IS quite fun, I think, and I love watching it. That being said, there are obviously more mature jokes and bits in there (Tulio and Chell have what seems to be an implied, off-screen sex scene?), and the topic of Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica wasn’t at the time really seen as a popular topic for kids.
This movie was also supposedly hell to work on, with constant changes in direction, script, and style. I think it shows in some places. There are a couple of rushed elements–Tzekel-Kan comes to mind as an underdeveloped figure other than being a religious nutjob who wants to sacrifice people. I’m unclear why the people of El Dorado followed his directions if apparently none of them liked the human sacrifice thing. And the final act of the film feels very, very rushed: Tzekel-Kan meets up with Cortes and leads the conquistadores to El Dorado, but the heroes find this out from a guy we’ve never seen before rush up and say that he saw them coming. The people of El Dorado immediately come up with a plan and enact it. Seems a few steps were missing there?
TV Tropes claims sequels were planned, though I don’t know if I’ve seen any proof about it. Maybe that explains what happened at the end? They planned to address it/do more with it in sequels?
I don’t know. I’m bummed that this movie wasn’t successful enough for sequels, though I am quite happy with what we did get. It’s an incredibly fun movie. There’s a REASON you keep seeing gifs of it online–it’s quotable, and hilarious.
The music is magnificent. They got Hans Zimmer, Elton John, and Tim Rice working together on the soundtrack, I suspect from trying to make something as epic as The Lion King. They don’t quite reach that level of awesomeness, in part because the movie isn’t as serious as that one, but it is very nice to listen to.
I love the art in this movie? At that point, Mesoamerica was not a topic pop culture liked to do anything with other than human sacrifices, so looking at how colorful the movie is… well, it’s fantastic. And even before they reach El Dorado, the landscape images we see of the jungles and mountains that Miguel and Tulio explore are wonderful to see. I want more animated films in settings like this.
It’s a memorable movie, and a fun movie, and a very funny movie. I really wish it was more well-known outside of Internet circles, because it’s quite good, if not the epic film that was originally planned to be. Maybe that would have been a great film; however, I’m alright with the film we got.
just watched iconic movie the road to el dorado for the first time!! i hadn't watched it before partially bc i couldn't get around to it, but mostly bc of the colonist/racist vibe of the premise as stated (2 white guys rock up to el dorado and are mistaken for gods. bro as an 'idol worshipping heathen' fuck that ive seen it done completely straight in older stuff and it so overtly sucks.) however i was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there's still stuff in it that bothers me (like i LOVE chel but she could have been done a lot better like what happened to her character halfway through, tzekel-kan's ending sits wrong with me, and there were some general Vibe Things) but anyway miguel and tulio were so clearly 2 hapless idiots being manipulated by 3 people who were generally aware of their non god status and were using them to one up the other or pursue their own goals... the scene where it's like 'look happy! like u mean it!' like they were faking so much of that and i like it!!!!!!
i think the 2 main white guys and the aztecs were in general on a fairly similar level and while they ended up being heroes saving the day it was more them being like aaaaa what are we doing + the symbolism having 2 give up this vice of gold and what they want 2 protect el dorado rather than being just Right about what to do.
also! i just dont like tzekel-kans ending for 1) how he WAS fooled into thinking both tulio+miguel and cortes were gods, like i said thats a trope i hate and 2) how its framed as comeuppance when like he deserved comeuppance but in like . being sucked in2 the whirlpool that he sacrificed a bunch of people to was perfect already . and it just feels nasty like i wouldnt like 2 be a person from that group watching this. but it was also part of a general thing i DID like which was how nasty the spanish conquistadors were, like u see how cortes also was terrible to tulio, miguel, his goddamn HORSE, and then this added element that isnt IGNORED about the racism but like miguel and tulio aren't affiliated with them at all, unlike stories that i thought this would be like they are NOT bros and there is no conflict of interest. so. yeah! i also liked the animation because it felt like watching a play and i like plays. the story felt a little rushed but ive been watching LONG af movies lately so i really appreciate something that knows how to pace itself and actually fit something into 90 minutes. i would rate it 8/10
"My biggest treasure"
(The road to El Dorado fanfiction)
{Part. 2}
{Part. 1}
A/N: I'm really happy with the support you're giving me and that you're enjoying my fanfiction. I promise that I will soon post what you asked me to write, I didn't forget, don't worry, lol.
°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
~ Moments before...~
I drew my sword and pointed it at them, the first man was a blond with medium hair and wearing a red shirt, the second man... my eyes went wide, I immediately recognized him, he was the man who robbed me!...
~
~ {Pov} Y/n:
“You?!...” I said angrily and pointed my sword at him, who looked at me in confusion.
“Me?” he asked.
“Sir, is your voice too girlish or is it just me?” The blond asked confusedly as he put his hands up.
Damn it, I spoke in my real voice... I regained my "manly" posture and got back to the point:
“You two!” I forced my voice to maintain my disguise and carried on as if nothing had happened. “Thieves... The captain will be thrilled to know there are stowaways on that ship!”
“Hey mister, calm down, it was a misunderstanding.” The blond tried to explain himself, still holding his hands up.
“I told you this plan wouldn't work!” The thief muttered to the other.
“And it definitely didn't.” I said, still pointing my sword at them. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn't hand you over to the general.”
“Listen, me and my friend here were on the run and ended up hiding in these barrels, only we didn't know that these barrels were going to...” The blond began to explain until he looked around thoughtfully. “What ship are we on?”
“General Cortés' ship, heading for El Dorado....” I replied and they looked surprised and scared at the same time.
“Oh... Right...” The blond cleared his throat. “Anyway, we were on the run and ended up hiding in these loads. Please, we swear it was an accident.”
“Running away? Running away from the guards, right?” They kept quiet as if they had nothing to argue about. “You, blondie, I can forgive. But you...” I pointed my sword at the brunette. “You'll see me before you go to the general, you bastard!”
“Hey, wait a minute, do I know you? What have I done to you?” He asked confused.
“You know very well.” I ended up letting my real voice take over, I couldn't control myself any longer, I was angry after all. “Give back the diary and the money you stole from me!” I pointed my sword at his face.
“Wait, wait i shaved this morning...” He mocked, but looked scared at the sword.
“Oh yeah? There's a bit missing... Come on! Give back what you stole from me.”
“Wait a minute, little woman! I didn't steal anything from you!”
“What did you call me, Thief?!”
“Calm down, Tulio...” The blond meddled, if he hadn't meddled I'd have put that sword through that bastard's neck. “Control yourself.”
“That idiot has to control himself! He's even pitching his voice like an angry little girl!” The thief, whose name was Tulio, mocked me.
I quickly took off my hat, let my hair down and took off my fake moustache, revealing who I really was:
“And I really am an angry little girl, you scoundrel...”
They were surprised by this, especially Tulio:
“You?!” Tulio asked, surprised and looking down at me.
“Wait, for God's sake what's going on? I'm very confused right now.” The blond said as he tried to get out of the barrel. “Let's take it easy.”
“And you, stay there! Stay where you are, both of you!” I pointed the sword at them and the blond immediately went back into the barrel without question.
“What is it, Princess? It's not enough that you know how to read and you've had that dead fish bath, and you're humiliating yourself by pretending to be a man?” Tulio spoke mockingly and looking at me up and down.
“Humiliating myself? No dear, I'm trying to survive, earning honest money unlike you!”
“You should be looking after the house instead of doing this!”
“Shut up or I'll cut out your tongue, you bastard!” I said, pointing the sword at him.
“Do you know each other?” The blond man asked.
“He stole my money and my diary when I was at the market and made me fall into a puddle on the ground full of dead fish!”
“It's not my fault you're so clumsy!” Tulio said.
“That wouldn't have happened if you hadn't robbed me!”
“You shouldn't have followed me!”
“You should know what woman you're messing with!” I said, approaching him and pointing the sword right at his face.
“Calm down! Calm down.” The blond interjected again, looking like he was trying not to laugh. “If this was all about the diary and the money, we can return it and pretend nothing happened.”
“How are we going to give it back if we bet...” I heard Tulio whisper to blondie, but he interrupted him by elbowing the brunette.
“You'll definitely give me back what you stole. Now the part about pretending nothing happened I won't do...”
“Wait! Trust me!” The blond insisted.
“How? You're his friend.” I couldn't take my eyes off Tulio. “And it's like the Bible says: 'Tell me who you're with and I'll tell you who you are'.”
“You're looking for El Dorado, aren't you?” As soon as he touched on this subject, my attention went to him... how did he know?
“How you...”
“I read your diary.” He interrupted, picking up the notebook in his pocket and handing it to me. I immediately took my father's diary from his hands. “We can make a deal.”
“I don't make deals with thieves.”
“Please listen to me.” The blond man spoke calmly and looked into my eyes, somehow I was moved by this, he really seemed to want to say something important, I sighed and looked at him, waiting for him to say it. He's very persistent. “We want to find this city just as much as you do, we can form a partnership, get off this ship together and go after the city.”
“Miguel!” Tulio scolded him.
“Me? Making a deal with thieves? no way!” I couldn't trust them straight away, especially this brunette, but I was curious, they're really confident of finding this city. “After all, do you have any more clues or was it just my diary? I'll warn you in advance that we don't know for sure if these notes are real.”
“Look at this...”
“No! You're not going to show...” Tulio held Miguel's hand, preventing him from showing me anything. This made me even more curious.
“Show me, now...” I said firmly, pointing the sword at Tulio, who slowly let go of Miguel's hand. It was easy to intimidate them both...
Miguel took out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to me, I unfolded the paper and it was a map, the map that led to El Dorado, I looked for any signs of forgery, but there weren't any, it was real, it even had some of the things my father had mentioned in his diary:
“How did you get this?...” I asked.
“We'll explain later.” Miguel continued. “You seem to be a very intelligent and strong woman to have disguised yourself as a man for all this time, and you know a lot about the city. Look, with the map and your research, we'll find this city easily and you'll get all the gold you want. Help us get off this ship and come with us.”
I was silent for a few seconds, I don't know if I should go with them, my dream and my father's has always been to find this city, it's a good opportunity, they have the map. But they're thieves, they could ambush me or betray me...
“Miguel, do you know that little voice in your head that tells you to stop?” Tulio asked. “You don't have one?!”
“All right, I'll go.” I said and put my sword away. Miguel looked at me with excitement and a gleam of joy in his eyes, while Tulio was disbelieving and shocked.
“Oh, that's great!” Miguel said and I immediately interrupted.
“But... if you plan or even think about cheating on me, you'll see me.”
“Relax, I promise I won't.” Miguel said sincerely. “You can trust me.”
“I'll give you a chance... Beware that I take promises seriously.”
“And if you ever think of telling on us, telling anyone that there are two intruders on this ship...” Tulio said as he climbed out of the barrel with Miguel and came closer to me. “... I don't think they're going to like knowing that they're bringing a woman undercover for this trip on the ship all this time...” He gave a mischievous smile. “After all, women on a ship are a bad omen.”
“Are you threatening me?” I asked a little angrily.
“An eye for an eye, my dear. You've blown our cover and we've blown yours, so we're even.” Actually, I showed it myself in my anger. “If you do anything stupid, You know what will happen. You have no choice but to help us get off this ship without being discovered.”
“You really are a bastard...”
“And you're quite the liar, you managed to fool even the general with your disguises, princess.” Tulio grabbed my chin and lifted my face to look at him, I hated that bastard.
“Call me princess one more time and I'll drive this sword right through your a-...”
“Hey! Hey! Hey!” Miguel stepped in and stood between the two of us, putting his arms around our shoulders and pulling Tulio and I closer together. “There's no reason for us to fight anymore, guys. Look, the three of us, the first to find El Dorado and the men...” He interrupted himself and looked at me. “And you... We will be the richest in Spain.”
Miguel was really excited, it would certainly be a good adventure, even with the annoying Tulio around, the blond finally let us go and spoke:
“I don't think we've introduced ourselves before. My name is Miguel, this is Túlio.” He pointed to his friend next to him. “And you? I don't know your name yet, señorita.”
“Y/n. My name is Y/n.”
“Good, Y/n. Now... do you have a plan for us to get out of here?”
Miguel asked and I thought for a few seconds, then the idea popped into my head, but Tulio spoke before me:
“First we get as much food as possible...”
“I thought the question was for me.” I interrupted him, before he could go on about the plan.
“My dear, I'm the idea man here, I make the plans. What's a woman going to plan? That we dress up as women for the men on the ship and seduce them?”
“Not a bad idea.” I gave him a mischievous smile, teasing him. “After all, you wearing a dress would scare the men off the ship and it would be much easier.” Tulio frowned, getting annoyed.
“Guys, the plan...” Miguel reminded us and tried to ignore this argument between me and Tulio, letting out a sigh.
“Well, we grab as much food as possible, get a rowboat and head back to Spain with everything we can give...”
“Spain? I thought we were going to El Dorado.” I interrupted Tulio, who was looking at me disapprovingly. “Are you really going to row to Spain? Do you have any idea where we are?”
“And by the way, how did we get off the deck without being discovered?” Miguel asked Túlio, with a little smile on his face. The brunette kept quiet for a few seconds and then continued.
“Okay. First, we disguise ourselves as these men who work here on this ship and...”
“The general and all the men will recognize you on the spot.” I interrupted once more.
“All right, what's your idea, smart girl?!” Tulio snapped.
“Well, you're lucky I'm the 'Man'.” I made quotation marks with my fingers. “In charge of the ship's cargo. I'll keep up my disguise until nightfall and in the meantime you two stay here, hiding in the barrels and I'll get our rowboat ready with the food so we can leave at night when everyone's asleep.”
“Yeah, that's a good plan.” Miguel said, winking at Tulio, who rolled his eyes. “Okay, good luck, Y/n.”
“Are you really going to trust her?” Tulio asked Miguel in disbelief.
“We made a promise.” I said as I tied up my hair and put on the hat that had been lying on the floor, starting to return to my disguise. “And you can bet I take promises seriously.”
“I don't trust you.” Tulio said in an attempt to offend me.
“Let alone me you, do you think I'm going to easily trust someone who stole from me?” I put on my fake mustache. “I'm not asking you to trust me, after all you have no choice, I know this ship and I know the way to escape better than you two.”
I put up the ladder to leave the ship's deck, before I left, I looked back and they were hiding, Good. I left the deck and closed the door carefully, I hope it works...
I watched the woman leave the deck, Tulio and I immediately went into the barrels where we were, while we hid, I decided to talk to him, I wanted to know his opinion of Y/n:
“Are you really going to trust her? What about our scheme?” Túlio asked, as if he had already guessed that I was going to talk about it. “It was just 'Miguel and Túlio' and no one else!”
“It's good to have new people in the group from time to time.” I said as I picked up the barrel lid. “Think about it, the three of us have the same goals!” I said with a smile on my face.
“No, we don't. It's just you and that crazy woman who want to find a city that doesn't even exist.”
“El Dorado does exist, Tulio. If you took a look at that girl's diary... there was plenty of proof that El Dorado was real, and what's more, we have a map!”
“I'm still not going to take her with us.”
“Come on. Give her a chance, I liked the girl.”
“Give her a chance? That crazy woman wants to kill me at the first opportunity!”
I started making that face of mine when I ask Tulio for something, it always works. He got angry:
“Aaah! Okay... let's go to El Dorado.”
“Yeah!”
To be continued...
Dear Lavi, I hope all is well with you! So, you may have probably been asked this before, but I'm still curious. Have you ever seen the animated movie, El Dorado? If so, what characters you like the best? And if you could adapt it to Asoiaf who would you chose as the characters? Sincerely, Cracktastic.
HELLLOOOOO sorry for answering so late but let's say things could be worse and I'm also swamped af -_- anyway: yes I did indeed see el dorado back in the day, it was like... years ago but honestly the main trio was pretty much all on the same degree of I LIKE YOU THREE AND YOU REALLY SHOULD BE AN OT3 TOO BAD IT'S A CARTOON AND IT'S NOT HAPPENING so pretty much I liked them all best and fuck cortez/the high priest
anyway let me think, if we had to asoiaf it... we need a working possible ot3 with people that can pass for criminals or be criminals and two of them going someplace they never set foot in before/no one else set foot in before and some religious fanatic going off and the third one being also a criminal which makes it bit more complicated than usual because without the last bit it could be a jon/sam + ygritte situation with tormund or mance being the nice city chief, ghost in place of the horse and janos slynt or someone like that being cortez (fuck him always) but no one in between the wildlings fits the insane high priest profile unless you make it set absolutely-in-universe and you make that craster somehow which... okay you'd need to change stuff around but it could work even if beyond the wall isn't exactly RICH but hey WE CAN WORK WITH IT, alternatively if you make el dorado the iron islands (.... which I mean........ not rich either but NEVER MIND) and don't go ot3 route and wildly change the character backgrounds/no one is noble™ you can make robb and jon tulio and miguel and theon can be chel except that he just wants to get the fuck out and ends up with the chill guy, aeron/euron can share the high priest, cortez can be whatever asshole brings them there, asha/alannys can be nice head chief bc like hell balon would be nice and in either case we switch stuff and we have both ghost and grey wind in place of the horse X°D idt it's viable with other combinations of characters I actually like but i TRIED UWU
Valentine’s Day Application
Name: Beth Riley an' no you're not gonna make me say da whole kine cause by time I would be done, we gettin' ready f' Easter.
Age: 29
Do you like to cuddle?: Is Holy Faddah ~da Pope~ Cat'olic? You already know da answer t' dis one as you are in fact my primary victim. I mean...cuddlee? Wha' you call dat person who receive cuddles?
Can we make-out?: This is where Beth giggles and looks away, a corresponding blush to match his. Her already soft voice becomes smaller still, almost inaudible against the sound of drizzle outside. "I mean. No can promise I won't...keep teeth t' myself, but I have it on good aut'ority dat you kinda don't hate it. So."
A night in or dinner out?: Uhm...hones'ly, I know you like goin' out, explorin' da city an' all da funky little pop-ups an' unique places, but I'm sort of a homebody at heart. My compromise den is to take a map of da city and tack it up to dart board, t'row a couple, see where dey land...den go an' pick out appetisers, drinks, food, an' den pack dem back to your house or mine. Now, notice I no say dessert because I would use my bes' feminine wiles t' get you to make me haupia or lilikoi filled malasadas, fresh.
Whip cream or chocolate syrup?: Gonna be Tulio and Miguel right now an' say both? Both is good. But it depends on wha' we gonna do wi' dem an' if mebbe when you say chocolate syrup you mean da dark chocolate an' sea-salt ganache still hot in from da waddah ba'd you made last week. Really broke da mout' an' I could eat our combined body weight of it.
Chocolates and roses?: She gives him a certain look, one that's as rare as hen's teeth. She isn't quite mad at him but something wounds her deep down. It takes a few seconds before she blinks that instant rage away, and then turns her jaw away apologetically. "Don't do roses."
What makes you a good Valentine?: Lessee, I know you forevah. We have a lifetime of ups an' downs, share so many kine in common, we bo'd laid-back kine of people, an' no maddah what we do? Always have a good time togeddah, or make a bad one beddah for one anoddah. So...I guess...dat's jus' it. I know you. I care about you. An' we're bo'd like stupidly soft.
Would you cook for me?: "Haven't in...I dunno how long. It's been almos' fifteen year? You know wha' happen last time I was lef' alone in da kitchen unsupervised...an' so does da Phoenix fire-department. Dey said nex' time dey would charge me wi' arson." They both know she's only half kidding. She can prep-cook and she can work creative wonders with frosting and fondant but she leaves the actual cooking to Chris.
Would you let me cook for you?: Same as cuddle answer. You're amazingly talented in all dat you do. To da point I'm pretty sure dat Kitchen-Witch is more dan jus' someone who practices magick wi' whatevah dey have on hand. An' I know you been tryin' to branch out, make somet'ing different from wha' you do in da bakery. I am volunteer as tribute, den, to be your taste-tester.
Where would you take me on a date?: Mmm. Whaddya in mood for? Live music I'd take you to da Van Buren. Or mebbe Char's if ya feelin' low key an' cozy. Or, since technically Valentimes is also Deat' t' Captain Cook day, maybe Undertow, but sometimes da whole 'ooooh, tiki-bar!' is so offensively fake Polynesia, mebbe we skip dat. Again, depends on where you wanna go, who ya wanna be seen by, wha' ya whole vibe is.
Who’s paying?:  Another look, a small archaeological dig in her backpack-that-pretends-to-be-a-purse, and she finally returns to the conversation triumphantly with her wallet. She opens it up and points to the seven different credit cards inside of it. "All of my coloniser family, actually." The smile she gives him is a little sharp, the flick of her tongue not remotely doing anything to soften the look.
What did you get me for Valentine’s Day?: This is where Beth shows her weirdness because nothing she produces is technically Valentines related. Not a single heart, no shade of pink or red or white. Instead she hands him a small wooden crate. Within is a master's collection: A blu ray copy of Possession from 1981. Near Dark, 1987. An uncut copy of Peter Jackson's Dead/Alive. Fright Night. Return of the Living Dead Collector's Edition. Dawn on the Dead, 1978. And the crowning jewel, a fully restored Vincent Prince's House on Haunted Hill, 1958. "I dunno if ya hip t' dis, but movie marathon?"
The baker adjusts his glasses, clearing his throat as if he were a the most regal of judges. His eyes glance at his phone, taking note of the questions on their quiz.They already went over his answers and like a kid at Christmas, he was excited to hear her answers.
Chris nods in half agreement.
He knew her name liek the back of his hand. No, not just Beth. Or Eliziabeth Irene Riley.
Elikapeka Ailine Alohaekauneikahanuola'Ilikea'wahine Riley.
After all, he did spend hours practicing after school with Jess. Writing it over and over in a notebook until he finally got it right, 25 times phonetically and 25 times spelled correctly (though one could spot his early spelling mistakes).
Needless to say, Chris knew her name and age without having to ask. Hell, he could say it just as fast and easily as supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
A slight red hue fills those chubby cheeks of his at her answer of cuddling and making out. One would think he would be used to her affections. Long before they started dating, Chris was often Beth's cuddlee. The Luna sleepovers usually ended with the younger siblings tangled up on each other's arms. If you asked Chris what he remembered the most about the first time Beth held him, he would tell you he remembers his heart sinking to his stomach when he saw Andy standing over them.
Thankfully, it just earned him a playful (albeit still painful punch to his arm.)
"Cuddlee is definitely the right word," Chris chuckles. "I definitely think you're a top tier cuddler. Olympic level if we're being honest."
Then that's when he hears her voice soften and that giggle that would always make that childhood stutter return as he if saw her for the first time. If there was one person who could tell you about his thing for sharp teeth, it was one Elizabeth Riley.
Afterall, she was the baker's first kiss...and bite.
"You might have some authority on that mi amor" he jokes with a bashful chuckle , "But I'm not gonna complain if I feel a little bite."
When it came to going out, Chris wasn't exaclty a social butterfly. Often more interested in the delicious meals and sweet treats around Arizona. Sometimes taking note but usually just enjoying the ambiance. Plus, he would always appreciate the sight of Beth in a nice dress. But as long as there was good food and even better company, Chris was happy.
"That sounds like a good compromise, as long as I get to try some good food and get to look those beautiful eyes I'm good."
The love of his life earns one of Chris's laughs when she mentions using her best feminine wiles. Beth could easily just smile his way, giving him the world's most complicated order. Best belive he'd find a way to fulfill that order.
"Honestly, you could give me the world's small peck on my cheek and I'd make you whatever you wanted from scratch."
The young Luna can't help but smile at her reference to the Dreamwork's classic, remembering their young days imitating the blonde and brunette duo. He straightens his glasses with a smile that grows at her pronounced love for his dark chocolate and sea-salt ganache recipe. It warmed his heart to know his recipes were appreciated outside the bakery.
Though his smile falters seeing that look. It was rare for one experience the wrath of Beth, thankfully Chris never pushed her to that point. He's only seen that look once before this and thank the Gods he was not the cause. Only the Admiral could get that kind of reaction out of such a kind soul.
He gives her a firm nod.
"I'll definitely make note of that."
Thankfully the mood is lightened with the next answer. A small select few know Chris that well. Beth. His sister. His tias. Can't forget Zora. It was rare for the baker to feel comfy with someone seeeing...all of him.
After all she saw him in a all phases of his life. Good. Bad. Sad. Weird.Just like he supported her, she had his b's even through his worst phases.
"Can't argue with you on that, although I will say betweent he two of us you're the softer one. Why do ya think I can't keep my hands off ya~"
He offers a wink.
A small chuckle soon follows once she mentions the Phoenix fire department charging her with arson if she has another fire incident. Some guys would go out of their way to poke fun at her about this. Even make a few snide comments. But not Chris. He's perfectly happy cooking their meals. What better way to express his love than in the kitchen.
Like she says, he could be a kitchen witch after all.
Soon that cat like tilt of his head follows seeing her thumb through her backpack as she discusses a few potential dates. A night at the Van Buren could be fun, especially if the coloniser side of the fam was paying for it. But then she reveals a wooden crate, further piqued his curiosity. When he goes through it's contents, those soft brown hues widen as that dorky grin spreads across his face.
"Whoa! No way! Thanks!"
He clears his throat, attempting to look as smooth as possible.
"I mean, this is pretty cool. I dont know where to start but I have a few ideas."
A small smile spreads his face.
"Would you be down to spend Valentines day doing a movie marathon? We could pick one of those fancy resteraunts in town and get take out and some wine. I'll even make some of those desserts you like."
He leans over to press a kiss against her cheek.
"I mean it's safe to say you're definitely my valentine. Honestly, even before we filled out this quiz, I was gonna ask if ya wanted to be my Valentine."
Unpublished fics game
wasn't actually tagged by anyone but I really want to do this cuz it looks fun
be warned some of these are extremely niche so much so that probably I would be the only one to read them lol
Fics I started writing and has a notebook
Durin/Elrond timetravel - where Durin timetravels into the 3rd age and joins Thorin's Company on their quest. He manages to drag Elrond into the mess as well.
Last Year's Barduil Month prompts - yes I will eventually get to them lol
Faramir/Pippin Flowershop/Firefighter au that I got promoted for last November - featuring flower language pining and depression
Decisions to change - Pippin/Faramir what if Faramir went to the council of Elrond. featuring child abuse
The silmarillion/ full metal alchemist crossover - Maedhros gets transported into the transmutation circle of Ed and Al's attempt to resurrect their mother. Other elves related to Maedhros get transported too. Maedhros sees two children in need and practically adopts them instantly lol
The Road to El Dorado the gay rewrite - what if the gods Miguel and Tulio were pretending are married in the pantheon, so to sell the deal they have to pretend to be married. featuring fake/pretend relationship with a fuck ton of mutual pining and internalised/period typical homophobia
How did Mobius M. Mobius became fascinated with Loki? - Season 2 au the TVA Loki travelled to at the beginning of the season was in the past so that means Mobius became obsessed with Loki as he tries to find that exact variant again. Basically a Mobius backstory
The Moon and the Spider - After the memory incident of No Way Home Peter changes his name and moves to London done being Spiderman. He goes on a date with Steven Grant and gets pulled into the events of Moon Knight
Fics that live in the idea book eventually to be written
All the days to remain - Stargate Jack/Daniel - season 6 au dealing with Daniel's death and the repercussions of unsaid feelings.
Stargate/Lotr crossover - there's a Stargate in Moria. SG1 gets stuck there because of a time dilation field. They join Thorin's company. Part 2 of the story sees SG1 come back when Ori places a distress call during the failed attempt to take Moria back. Due to the time difference SG1 arrives just as the fellowship is passing through Moria.
Rush Hour Carter/Lee - Case fic where Carter gets framed for some crime and Lee is the only one to believe Lee so he goes and finds him. The two of them in an effort to clear Carter's name bust an international crime organisation. Featuring movie level shenanigans.
Exploring the Cleonic Dynasty - Foundation - The Foundation through the various Cleons' perspective
Stargate/House MD crossover - During the events of 10x8 Vala finds herself in Princeton Plainsboro with severe amnesia. House meets her during one of his rare occasions of doing clinic hours and gets interested when he feels the scarring of the Goa'uld Vala was host to. Vala gets recruited as a fake nurse to avoid getting detained by the fake air force also because House thought it was funny lol
These are the ones I plan to write in the future. Please send me asks about them if you want to know more. I'll be happy to ramble on about any of them lol
