This is a fan art of a drama fantasy webcomic, This isekai maid is forming a union !  by frostlight comics Which is a deconstruction of the otome isekai genre publish in most Asian countries like Japan and South korea  .
It shows its main character Bridgette, who is drawn in the style of Samurai jack and some of the animated movies like The Secret of Kells and Wolfwalker by Irish cartoon studio Cartoon Saloon . Especially that its style was inspired from the story within the season 1 finale called the Maiden and the three princes, which Bridgette tells to his little sister.
This art is also inspired from the rejected cover arts

Tumblr's favorite animated movie!
Tumblr media
Vote in the other polls! What fans say:
Paprika:
Absolute mindfuck, such a visual delight.
Did you know, this movie inspired Inception? It's an artistic masterpiece in my eyes, and I've never seen anything quite like it. The use of animation to convey the dreams is so amazing, and unlike a lot of other animated movies I feel like there is no way this would have the same impact as something live action. It's such eye candy, and it's almost 16 years old now.
The Secret of Kells:
It has a beautiful art style that looks unlike pretty much any other movies, except others from the same studio.
This is such an underrated masterpiece. Its animation is flawless, it's devastating but so hopeful at the end.

I really love your art style! It sort of reminds me of The Secret of Kells meets Tim Burton, super cool!
Thank you oh my god I'm a huge cartoon salon fan so this means the world to me. I wasn't intentionally going for that artstyle but that movie molded alot of things about 8 year old me so maybe it subconsciously influenced me to draw that way. And I love Tim Burton too. Really sweet thing in my inbox it really made my day thank you

Your style is so cool! How do you draw like that and what styles did you use as inspiration? I’d really like to learn how to draw in that type of style.
Thank you so much! My artstyle is an amalgamation of thousands of things but I’ll pinpoint a few of my strongest inspirations :] This is gonna be long, so strap in
You can never have too much reference, and doing artstyle studies will help you form your own individual artstyle the quickest. I tend to really lean into styles with blocky proportions, thick lines, and expressive characters. Mainly I’m taking inspo from 2000s cartoons such as Gorillaz, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, My Life as A Teenage Robot, Dexter’s Lab, Secret of Kells, 60s cartoons from Hanna Barbera like Scooby Doo, Chattanooga Cats, Yogi bear, and classic animators and artists like Milt Kahl, Mary Blair, and Osamu Tezuka, and ofc various mid century illustrators and advertisements.
Going straight for character lineup sheets and concept art will help a lot, because often animators and designers will write notes specifically about how to approach every aspect of their artstyle :
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is a collection I usually pull out of Hanna Barbera :
Tumblr media
Some modern artists I consider to be a big impact on my works are Jamie Hewlett and Robert Valley :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I recommend building a large folder comprised of the all art styles you wish to emulate and keep them handy whenever you begin to draw. Fan art is great practice. And this is more of a personal thing, but I try to immerse myself as much as I can in the aesthetic I want to depict; meaning watch lots of movies, read lots of comics, and listen to motivating music according to the style ! Have a good day, and I hope this helps. :]

My finished piece for the @cartoonsaloonmythzine!
[do not ask me why I have not posted this yet,, I don’t have an answer]
I’ve always been a huge fan of the Cartoon Saloon stories & art style, they really helped spark/encourage a sorta kinda fixation into Irish folk myths & culture; very very fun watches that are all call for big emotions in their own way. Of the films so far Wolfwalkers, The Secret of Kells, & The Breadwinner are my favorites (though this zine was for their sort of trilogy films) and I am very excited to see what comes of their future projects!!
Ye yea :’-3
[Image Description:
An digital illustration of the main characters from Wolfwalkers and The Secret of Kells. Brendan and Robyn are siting together to the right of the page. Robyn is a young girl with blue eyes and blonde hair in a long, messy braid going over her shoulder. She has a flower in her hair and is smiling at a book in Brendan’s lap as he talks. Brendan is a young boy with red crop cut hair, green eyes and freckled skin. He is smiling excitedly and pointing to the book in his lap as he explains or discusses details of it to/with Robyn. In the midground we see Aisling, a little girl with pale white skin and white hair wearing a grey wolves pelt chasing Pangur Ban - a white cat who seems more than displeased with being the subject of a game of chase. Aisling is chasing after the cat with claws and teeth bared, smiling wide. Just behind her, as if also apart of this game of chase, we see Mébh hanging upside down from a tree. Mébh is a little girl with thick red hair full of foliage, a simple olive green dress and large, golden hoop earrings. Her cheeks are tattooed and her teeth are pointed, almost like fangs. The whole scene is set in bright and silhouetted forest. Glowing twin wolves and sun like stone frame the piece.]

So... My Father's Dragon, huh?
Tumblr media
With the exception of Puffin Rock and Late Afternoon, I think I've seen almost every major production by Cartoon Saloon. The studio is often called 'The Irish Studio Ghibli' for their unique art-style, strong ties to Irish folklore, and the grand, almost operatic scale of the stories they tell.
... It's just a damn shame that their latest film, My Father's Dragon, based on the children's book of the same title by Ruth Stiles Gannett, seems to have missed the mark on some of that.
Spoilers Under the Read 'More'
The Art:
First and foremost, it can't be said that this film isn't visually stunning. It is: the use of color is vibrant, the linework is beautiful... But the overall aesthetic of this movie's art and animation definitely feels smaller than past Cartoon Saloon films. As I was watching the movie, in fact, there were several scenes that made my brain go 'Oh, this seems more like a high-quality television series than a full-on feature film'. I think it also ties back to the character designs, particularly the animals on Wild Island and the titular Dragon himself.
And, look, I understand: this is obviously the kind of story that's primarily in the imagination of a young child to help them grow and overcome a recent trauma or life-development in the same vein as Where the Wild Things Are or Bridge to Terabithia.
That being said, the animal designs and dragon design were all so cutesy that, again, it had my brain popping up with 'oh, this is all in Elmer's imagination' over and over.
The Characters:
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is one of those films that doubles as a Litmus Test on the mental age of whoever's watching it.
Because I'm more than certain that children and younger teens watching it would sympathize with Elmer and his emotions and actions, as well as Boris (the Dragon).
However, on the older teen/adult side of the spectrum, there were several moments where I wanted to punch Elmer and Boris in the face.
Particularly the inciting incident where Elmer runs away early in the film after blowing up at his mother. I understand that he's young and doesn't understand the ups and downs of economic recession, sudden poverty, and relocation.
However... My God, kid! You are smarter than this! Please read the room and understand that your mother is stressing the fuck out!
Boris was just so annoying for the first half of our time with him, I'm sorry. I get that him acting like that is important for the plot (again, 'the kind of story that's primarily in the imagination of a young child to help them grow and overcome a recent trauma or life-development')
But, bitch, if you don't learn to read the fucking room--!!
Elmer's mother. Of course she shouldn't have blown up at her son, I'm not justifying that, but again...
Elmer, you are smarter than this! Please read the room and understand that your mother is stressing the fuck out!
The animals of Wild Island were... There. Of course the main standouts are Seiwa, the gorilla leader of the island, and Iris the mother rhinoceros.
The Story:
I'm not going to lie: I'm not the biggest fan of how this movie ends. Oh, not Boris leaving at the end or the (kind of obvious) implication that everything that happened was more or less imaginary, but the whole 'What an amazing adventure! ...Welp, I'm off to busk with my former-bullies-turned-friends! Bye mom!'
It's like... I get it, no magical, imaginary journey was going to miraculously solve Elmer's mother's financial difficulties, but you couldn't have made it so that Elmer found something to make and sell? Rather than him having to essentially beg on the street with other poverty-stricken children to help make ends meet?
And it isn't that 'oh, it's a bittersweet ending' that's the issue. I love bittersweet endings! Most of Cartoon Saloon's films have some kind of bittersweet ending: The Secret of Kells ending with Brendan only being able to come home when he's older and Abbot Cellach is on his deathbed, Song of the Sea with Ben and Saorise never being able to see their mother again and Saorise giving up her existence as a Selkie to stay with her brother and father, The Breadwinner leaving things off with Parvana and her family really not knowing what's going to happen to them as they try to escape from Afghanistan.
... In fact, I think that Wolfwalkers actually has the lightest ending of the whole Irish Folklore Trilogy...
With My Father's Dragon, though, it really just feels like the movie is trying to sugarcoat the message of 'Well, enjoy the Recession, kids! The next few years are going to SUUUCK~!' And it probably does go back to how the overall scale of this movie compared to other Cartoon Saloon films makes it feel smaller.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I did enjoy my time with My Father's Dragon. I would definitely say watch it with younger siblings or gather your friends around for an easy watch that prompts some interesting commentary.
Overall Rating: 7/10

What are your three favorite movies?
I'd say mine but there's way too many.
Ugh y'all askin the hard questions. Uhhhhhhhhh Jupiter Jim is up there but there are so many its hard to pick one so I'll give you a few others. I'm a biiiit of a horror fiend and I think Hereditary is a 21st century classic already. It caused serious psychological damage but I think that's the point. Another favorite is definitely Princess Mononoke. I did not expect it to be as dark as it was, but it's an absolutely gorgeous movie with complex and empathetic characters, a fascinating world, and amazing art direction. Bonus rec because I'm trying to give three wildly different favs just cause I have so many in so many different genres but Spirited Away is also amazing. Third fav is The Secret of Kells. It's another gorgeous animated movie that is wonderfully stylized and a very interesting retelling of real history in a fictionalized way. Everything by Cartoon Saloon is amazing. Check out Wolfwalkers and Song of the Sea, too. More recs bc I'm going insane; literally everything by LAIKA. All of it. Also Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but everyone's watched Spider-Verse by now.
If you can't tell I'm kinda a huge fan of animation. As a fellow artist I am weak for literally every form of animation when it's done well. I'm a very simple man. You give me well done animation I lose it.

Hello, peeps! I’m back with another art dump today! (check out the last one here) If you want to see these pictures individually, be sure to check out my pandaserules97 @deviantart gallery.
The first pic is actually a base I from @cartoonjunkie / @askant1d0t3, where one can draw anyone they want hugging Ant1D0t3 (aka more muscular Antisepticeye XD). I used an OC I haven’t drawn in a while, and it’s intersex asexual Cameron. I had a lot of fun using my graphics tablet for this one, as it was easier to help me imitate CJ’s art style instead of using the mouse pad and the Photoshop pen tool.
The next three involve a character that I haven’t drawn in almost a year...Forest Fairy Jack! More info on why this is right here (I also mentioned that there may be a fanfiction based on this coming soon ;D).
The first one on the left is part of the cover for said upcimg fanfic, the middle is a retaken October photo from this post here, and the last one is an edited combination of three photos from July.
The pic with the giant cake and the awful lighting was a quickly made VenturianTale birthday picture back in February. That is all.
Now, the pic next to the Venturian bday pic, THAT is something I’d love to talk about.I have made pictures with these two characters, Taylor and Tyler, in the past, but it was just for political crap. I wanted to give a proper introduction to their purpose in my whole LGBT storyline. It’s more detailed on the Deviantart post, so I’ll try to keep it brief here.
These two are African-American fraternal twins and live similar lives. They’re both homosexuals, happily married, and have adopted children. That’s their basic bio, and their significance is vital for several reasons; I cannot give away everything, but I will say that they both require at least 2-4 teens to help babysit their children whenever they’re at long days at work. Cue in Leo and Chloe, and this is how the two first meet.
The next is another Disney edit, only this time, I edited Jim Hawkins and Cinderella to look like my OC Jordan. Also, credit to @thenamelessdoll again for the background. I made a little story with this scene, and it’s about Jordan’s last day in his deranged household, as a future friend will drive him over to college. Just before he leaves his girly room, fully dressed like a boy now, Jordan hears his parents badmouthing him...what should he do? Confront his parents one last time or leave through the back window?
The last one is an intro to another OC I made: Lily the Flower Princess. Like with the gay fraternal twins, I only used Lily for anything LGBT related without really delving into her character. So, with a template from Deviantart, I made a full bio about her, and I’m excited to show more characters from her universe.

Made some fan art for The Secret Of Kells! Tried to replicate the style, do you think I did a good job?
(ID: a drawing of Brendan and Pangur Ban from The Secret Of Kells standing on a hill, facing away from the camera as they look to the tower at the centre of the village. To the left there are two trees and to the right there’s three. The sky is dark and overcast.)

What fans say:
Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part III: Rebellion:
Extremely strong plot, characterization, and animation (the latter notably improved compared to the original series). I've got so many scenes I love but if you're counting by which scene I've researched most, Homura and Sayaka's confrontation in the labyrinth.
The Secret of Kells:
It has a beautiful art style that looks unlike pretty much any other movies, except others from the same studio.
This is such an underrated masterpiece. Its animation is flawless, it's devastating but so hopeful at the end.
Everything I’ve seen by Cartoon Saloon is visually breathtaking with distinctive backgrounds and characters, both visually and with how they interact. As one of their earliest films, Kells is FAR from an exception. It’s complicated, it’s messy, it has a lot off deep moments and plenty of light ones. Aisling’s song where she temporarily turns pangur into a spirit is gorgeous. It’s an amazing story that’s really deeply impacted me and my outlook on life. Not to mention every frame is absolutely breathtaking. It’s a story about friendship and loss and a billion other little things, and it’s absolutely amazing.
