(It’s nice to see Norton again btw, I wondered a while ago why I hadn’t seen him in new movies recently.)

[Additional spoilers for Knives Out, The Last Jedi, Midsommar, and The Handmaiden]

The film takes too much time to get started. The characters are too flat to carry it until the plot actually launches. Only gets good after the plot twist. The secondhand embarrassment scenes are excruciating.

The plot: “rich people bad, the detective teams up with a pure-hearted woman of color and helps her win”, take two. Are they going to make a whole franchise out of this? Not a great foundation for murder mystery: just look for the most entitled white man and that’s your killer.

Benoit Blanc himself, though, is a good character to build a movie series around. A classic independent detective with a kind heart and a taste for adventure — I want to see more of him. Many people have said it already, but I want Blanc to replace Bond as Daniel Craig’s #1 role.

The biggest strength of the film were, of course, all of the clever and fun twists and reveals. As you can see from the liveblog, I was misdirected very successfully and loved it every time.

And now for the biggest flaw of Glass Onion in my eyes. Just like Knives Out, this film has an extremely fun outer layer wrapped around the heart that I find a genuine downer. Most of the shallow, annoying characters got off scot-free, and what was harmed the most in act 3 was an innocent painting. I’ve already seen The Last Jedi, I don’t really need the same ending scene as the Canto Bight storyline — except worse because the writer doesn’t see the difference between “rich asshole’s property” and “priceless piece of art”. Which is a bad enough take to see on Tumblr, but straight up baffling to encounter in a high budget movie, written by a professional filmmaker. (Amazing timing, though. How did they manage to release this not only in the middle of the Musk major meltdown/Twitter takeover but also soon after the Van Gogh soup discourse?)

In retrospect it also reminds me of a couple of other famous scenes with a female protagonist involved in destruction, and the comparison is not in Glass Onion’s favor. Midsommar also ends with the heroine and a huge symbolic fire, but it’s a horror/drama, and the event takes not only the lives of those caught in the fire but the soul of the heroine. The Handmaiden, on the other hand, features a scene of art destruction that is genuinely positive and cathartic, but the nature of art and the role it plays in human lives is radically different.

[Edited to add] I’ve seen people who liked the ending defend it by saying that people are more important than art. The thing is, if this were framed as the trolley problem — if destroying a priceless work of art were presented as the only way to save an unknown number of lives — I would feel differently. Instead, the film seems to want the viewer not to value the Mona Lisa just because the rich amoral characters do value it.

In a more Watsonian and practical sense, I don’t see how this is a win for Helen. She was the one who burned the painting. The fuel played only a minor part, the painting would have been destroyed just the same without it (in fact, that’s what expected Miles’ lighter to be for). But even if it were otherwise — okay, so this new fuel can easily cause a fire; well, so can electricity and gas if you’re not careful! Not great for PR of this specific product, but not a death sentence either. Most importantly, it’s the person who committed arson that will be charged for it, not the person who unwittingly provided the fuel for the fire.

I did have a good time, to be clear! Very worth watching unspoiled. The release was timed well: the overall lighthearted tone, clever twists, vibrant visuals (bright colors, stylish outfits, idyllic location) make this a good holiday movie.

I’m having trouble with a numerical grade (the worst part of IMDB and Letterboxd is that they make me care about grading, even though it doesn’t work with how I think about media at all). Glass Onion feels like a 7, but I gave Knives Out a 9 and they don’t feel two whole grades apart.

i just. finished reading the last chapter of dream come true and like. god. theres a lot to unpack.

first off i was always a krerdly believer for the series. ever since we saw berdly being a fucking disaster and ask everyone but kris out i was cheering for him to ask out kris. and oh boy you fucking did it. you actually fucking did it im so happy and grinning like an idiot even though berdly asking kris out actually made me die of secondhand embarrassment. the little cringefail gamers going together. what a dream. also kris in a dress supremacy lets fucking go im bad at visualizing stuff in my head but they mustve looked so gender and i am envious.

also a mini fangame thing for the actual epilogue????? oh my god im actually gonna explode. like actually so so so so excited for it.

and finally. i just. want to express my disbelief at how its finally ending. i remember meticulously going through the deltarune tag because i just got sucked back in and i wasn't there for the initial chapter one release of deltarune so i wanted all the content i could get my hands on. and of course there were already some chapter 2 stuff in there, and i saw dare to dream, and thought "oh, that's a nice suselle fic, i'll go check it out" and i fell in love with it. just good pining and fluff, with a little bit of worry about carol in the last chapter but like. ok. and you uploaded a sequel and i was ecstatic and you kept writing. and writing. and writing until eventually we're waist deep into your own headcanon lore with whole new characters and dark worlds and it was just. amazing. actually one of my favorite fic series i've ever read, deltarune or otherwise. every chapter you put out somehow outdid the last and its been such a joy eagerly awaiting the next update and godddddd i cant believe it's finally over.

thank you so much for it all. i genuinely cannot express enough how much dare to dream means to me. the hit of serotonin every time i get the little notification in my emails. me actually having to stop in the middle of reading chapters and walking all over the room. rolling and squealing and flailing in my bed at fuck o clock in the morning. trying to guess what happens in the new chapter and searching through my playlists for mood appropriate music to read to and then changing it when the epic battle turns into a reunion and then lore exposition. its been such a wonderful ride and im looking forward to the epilogue and your future works as well because whatever you decide to put out next, im sure it's gonna be a great one.

Miraculous Rant.

Where the hell do I begin…

Season 1:

The show was decent in season 1. Some episodes were just mindless filler and probably weren’t needed in the grand scheme of things but they helped us get introduced to the characters, we got to know the plot and the world our characters inhabit. It was good. The love story between Adrien and Marinette was cute and off to a touching and fluffy start.

Season 2:

This season was immediately better than season 1. It had character development, it went more into detail about the lore surrounding the Miraculous and we got to learn more about our characters and their families and the villian’s motives. (HM really went from “I wanna destroy the world” to “I wanna wake my wife from the coma she’s in”).

We got to see new heroes which was fun! We got new characters like Luka and Kagami.

The season finale was epic! The Miraculous team all taking down all the previous villains in the show was awesome. At the end we even got Mari kissing Adrien on the cheek. It was great! (Even though it clearly reset itself in season 3 cause it’s never mentioned again)

I really enjoyed season 2 and it’s probably my favourite out of the 4.

Season 3:

Season 3 was kinda good and kinda bad. We had some great episodes but this is where the show took the wrong turn.

Marinette lost some of her character in season 3. This was the start of her descent into being the Queen of Mary Sues. It’s also where she was crowned the Queen of Stalkers! Her character took a fucking nose dive in this season. We had so many moments that just creeped me the fuck out.

1. The ENTIRETY of Puppeteer 2 🤢🤢🤢 I could not stand that episode. When we reached the dreaded statue scene I physically had to pause it like 10 times. That scene takes about 3 minutes to watch… it took me about 20. I cringed so fucking hard because of the secondhand embarrassment I was feeling. That was not sweet, it wasn’t romantic, it wasn’t the least bit cute… it was a train wreck! It was creepy and stalkerish and it’s a wonder Adrien even spoke to her again after that atrocity!

2. LB delivering the present in Chat Blanc. Two words: STALKER BEHAVIOUR!!! I genuinely could not believe my eyes when I saw LB run her hand across everything in his room and then actually SNIFF Adrien’s pillow. Like WTF!!! 🤮 I’m pretty sure whoever was responsible for that scene clearly thought it was the equivalent of when someone gets their S/O’s jumper or something and it still smells like them. But this turned it up to the nth degree and way passed the line of sanity.

Adrien was extremely under-utilised in this season. He didn’t really do anything. The only episodes we got about him didn’t really focus on him. ‘Felix’ whilst focusing on Adrien’s family didn’t really feature him. ‘Party Crasher’ while a beautiful mess was more about Mari trying to get into the party than the party itself. ‘Chat Blanc’ again focused more on Mari trying to fix her mistake.

We got even more heroes in season 3, not in the right order but they were there. It was fun seeing everyone’s transformations.

Season 3 was also the season of destroying redemptions. The big one obviously being Chloe. Season 2 was setting up this amazing redemption for her and before it could go anywhere it was wiped off the face of the earth during the finale (and don’t worry we’ll get to that dumpster fire later). Gabriel also had any remaining sympathy ripped away from him. How did the guy who stopped Gorizilla from letting Adrien die when he only thought he was CN go from that to using his son like fucking baseball in Chat Blanc when he knew his son was CN. Like I knew you were a shit father but you still cared about Adrien in some way shape or form but after that episode I can see I was clearly mistaken!

Before we get to the finale I want to talk about probably my 2 least favourite episodes from this season: Desperada and Reflekdoll

Desperada:

I fucking hated this episode! The only good thing was Luka getting to be Viperion, other than that this episode was awful!

Marinette was a selfish cringey bitch. Completely ignoring Luka to gush about Adrien to Jagged. Brushing Luka off as soon as Adrien turns up. Immediately cuddling up to Aspik and flirting with him when she needed to focus on the akuma (something which she has told CN not to do many times before)

Adrien, I love you kid but Jesus Christ you were a dumbass in this episode! Aspik’s design was terrible! Aspik himself was awful. I know Adrien tried his best but dude you were given the Black Cat miraculous for a reason! He shouldn’t have tried to be Aspik but even when he did he should’ve called it quits after like 5 resets not 25,913 times.

The only person with a brain this episode was Luka. So well done guitar boy, gold star!

Reflekdoll:

This episode was annoying! It was basically the start of the Marinette can do no wrong streak! When they have to swap miraculous I was happy cause it meant we got to see new outfits and see how they each handle the different powers. It would also serve as a way to get LB and CN to see what their partners role is first hand. Until we actually get to it…

LadyNoire is of course amazing and needs no introduction to using this new miraculous that she’s never used before. She’s cocky and confident and basically just LB in Chat’s costume with his powers.

Mister Bug on the other hand is just useless. He struggles with this new miraculous (like anyone would!) and is stupid and goofy. He has to rely on LadyNoire to solve the lucky charm. They swapped miraculous so shouldn’t that mean that Mister Bug should get the lucky vision and the creative powers that the earrings give him.

Overall Reflekdoll is awful. It was shitty writing and the start of Adrien getting the short end of the stick.

And now the season 3 finale… Just what the fuck. That is my only reaction: what the fuck!

Chloe you poor fucking child! What did they do to you!!! So much potential SQUANDERED!!!!

What was the point in bringing in all these different superheros with unique skill sets, costumes and transformations if you were just going to immediately reveal them to the main villian so they can’t be used again. That’s stupid! If you wanted the shock value that is “Oh no HM knows some of the heroes identities!” Then keep it as only some. Have like Max, Kim and Kagami outside trying to find somewhere to hide but unfortunately they get hit. Or Nino and Alya are hiding but the windows open and they get hit. Have some of the heroes hide so they’re fine! Taking away every ally of LB and CN’s was a stupid move! (Even if they wanted Alya to become a spy have her as part of the like 4 that get revealed or something, it’s not that difficult)

Season 3 was 50/50 for me

Season 4:

So I know season 4 isn’t even halfway through yet but so much is wrong with this season already that I need to vent!

So my biggest problem with this season of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybitch and Rena Rouge, I mean Rena Furtive… shit, Chat Noir! Is that CN is basically pointless! Adrien has been flung over a rainbow and is only remembered when he’s needed as

1. Marinette’s love interest

2. Someone for LB to shout at

3. A plot device

He has basically been sidelined. Partners my ASS!!!

Adrien is being blown off by pretty much EVERYONE! It’s coming to a point where this poor sweet summer child is going to crack! And it is not gonna be pretty… I definitely feel like the writers are leading up to a big fight between CN and LB which will probably end with Chat Blanc 2.0.

I REALLY HATE MARINETTE/LADYBUG!!!! In Season 3 I said it was the beginning of her descent, well in season 4 she’s done it. She’s descended, she has hit rock fucking bottom. She is so unlikable I don’t actually care about her as a person. She has entered full blown stalker territory it’s only a matter of time before she starts killing people for even looking at Adrien! Not to mention that Miss Mary Sue here can’t do anything wrong! She never has to suffer the consequences of her actions, she is always perfect no matter what she does… it pisses me off!)

She’s the Guardian now big whoop. I know what it feels like to be stressed and under pressure so I do understand why she needed to tell someone about it all. I just don’t see why that person had to Alya! Especially considering she has someone by her side every akuma attack going through pretty much the exact same thing. I know she’s worried about CB happening again but as I said before the more she leaves him out the more she is actually pushing that to become a possibility! Plus it makes sense for them to reveal their identities now since LB is now the guardian it’s probably a good idea to know who holds the cat miraculous, she knows everyone else’s identities!

Even if she didn’t want to tell CN her identity she could still explain the situation to him. If she didn’t want to tell him anything (which she doesn’t anyway) then instead of Alya she should’ve talked to Luka! Her boyfriend for all of half an episode (thanks writers…). He’s so sweet and caring and clearly loves her so much! If she wanted someone to confide in then why not choose the person you clearly wanted to date but couldn’t because of that very reason! (Yeah I know it’s kinda a moot point now since Luka knows both identities but still). He wanted to try and comfort her so it would’ve been the perfect moment for it. That way you could still date him and he’d know why you had to suddenly leave dates halfway through! But no break the boys heart instead!

Adrien and Marinette were both such fucking idiots in the first 2 episodes. Like why would you start a relationship with someone when you know your heart isn’t in it! That’s called leading someone on and is a really shitty thing to do to someone! No wonder Kagami and Luka ended up akumatized!

Another aspect of season 4 I don’t like is Rena Furtive. Yes ok having a spy for your side is a good strategy but when said spy basically tells an important member of a duo that the 2 person job doesn’t involve them… it just really ticks me off! Alya you are the sidekick to LB and CN! Chat isn’t!

Miraculous specials:

The Miraculous World specials suck! Shanghai is better than NY but still has its problems. Both specials add nothing to the overall plot/lore of the show apart from trying to set up some weird cinematic universe…

NY special:

One of the worst things I’ve ever had to sit through! The plane scene alone I paused a few times. I want to say well done to Mari for trying to move on from Adrien (especially considering I’m pretty sure she’s dating Luka at this point) but I can’t help but think it’s just to give her character some pointless development that goes nowhere and doesn’t actually develop anything!

LB can pretty much fuck off at this point! I hate her! She put all this shit on CN (like she doesn’t know exactly how that feels). It’s like why does she get to go off on holiday but CN can’t. LB should’ve stayed in Paris for 3 reasons:

1. She’s recently become the guardian meaning it would probably be best that she stayed with the Mircle Box

2. She’s the only one who can purity the akumas

3. If she’s so sure about being the boss then she should take responsibility of Paris and the citizens.

What really pisses me off about her is what she says to CN during the big fight. “I can’t trust you”… surely you could have this conversation afterwards since you’re supposed to be focusing on taking down the villian! Plus everyone bashes Adrien for giving his miraculous up in this episode but look at it from his point of view: His partner and best friend just said she couldn’t trust him which in turn caused him to cataclysm someone and essentially kill them. That’s gonna take a toll on anyone, especially a 14 year old! He probably thought in that moment. “Ladybug needs a partner she can trust and someone who won’t mess up and kill someone. She needs a better partner.” It makes sense he renounces his miraculous! I’m just upset that in doing so he loses Plagg who is pretty much his only friend who actually understands what Adrien goes through at home.

When Uncanny gets CN to come back, LB acts like it’s not her fault in the first place that he feels inadequate! She didn’t even apologise for saying what she did! He apologised for lying about not being in Paris but nope LB wasn’t in the wrong at all and didn’t have anything to apologise for 🙄… (yes the LadyNoir hug was amazing but I just wish it was under different circumstances!)

Also are we not gonna mention Gabriel Agreste almost starting WW3??? He wanted to launch a fucking missile!!!

Shanghai:

As I said before, this special is way better for several reasons.

We got MariChat! (Best side to the love square imo). This special actually had some semblance on a plot. Fei, whilst a bit op, was a cool character. It was nice to see Wang Cheng again.

However once again there were many problems.

A big one being Marinette yet again! (What a shock! 😒 I’ll come back to this). Another was that once again HM’s motivation has changed. How is getting the Prodigious gonna help bring back Emilie??

Back to Marinette… The fact that the words “Huh?! There must be some kind of mistake! I always know what's up with Adrien! … His 5 first names and every corresponding name date, his yearly schedule, even his shoe size! If there were anything to know about him, I would know it!” come out of her mouth whilst she is flipping through his schedule that she keeps in her pocketbook is a hugh red flag!!! That is not cute or adorable! That’s messed up and Adrien needs to fucking run and maybe possibly go into witness protection… Marinette is a full blown stalker! Not to mention the GPS she has (that could just be the find my friends app on iphone but still).

It also is extremely rude of her to use not only her great uncle’s birthday but also a lie about wanting to know her Chinese heritage in order to go to Shanghai to stalk her obsession, I mean crush. This could’ve been avoided if the Dupain-Chengs were going to Shanghai for the purpose of celebrating Wang Cheng’s bday and then Adrien just so happened to be in Shanghai.

Also this means LB left Paris without telling CN! I know CN did the same but again he can’t purify the akumas. Plus he has a reason he couldn’t stay in Paris, Mari just went cause her crush did. Great guardianship there Marinette.

This was also the last time CN actually did something. Even if it was for a short while before LB and her female partner took over (the beginning of a theme…)

Other things:

There are 2 other things that I wanna say but felt they needed a separate bit.

In Furious Fu, Su-Han has a rule book that he uses to tell Marinette which rules she has broken. At the end of the episode he tells her that is she breaks 1 more rule that he will take the Miraculous and the Miracle Box off her, which fair enough but wouldn’t it be helpful to leave the rule book with her?! How can she be wary of not breaking anymore rules when she doesn’t even know what the rules are??

Now the big one: Master Fu…

Where do I even start with him. He is so fucking manipulative!! He is Asian Dumbledore!

He decides to leave these extremely powerful jewels in the hands of 13 year olds! Surely leaving the miraculous to someone in their 20s would’ve been better!

He clearly favours LB over CN even though the Ladybug and Black Cat are supposed to be partners! Wouldn’t it make sense for them both to be in contact with the guardian from the start?? He randomly started introducing rules such as if LB and CN find out each other’s identities they would lose their miraculous… what kind of bullshit rule is that? It also came out of fucking nowhere!

Final Thoughts:

But to summarise all of that: Miraculous is on quite a steep decline but I’m invested at this point and I am genuinely curious as to where the fuck this will go.

Marinette needs professional fucking help before the writers even consider canonising Adrienette cause at the moment she is not what Adrien needs!

Adrien needs to stand up for himself! He needs to pull LB to the side and tell her what he feels and what he’s going through cause he is on the precipice of a breakdown!

(Small point that’s more to do with the fandom: when searching for fanfics it’s really annoying that Adrien Agreste/Chat Noir Bashing is a tag but Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug Bashing isn’t. Why does everyone think Marinette can do no wrong???)

A year of BL Love

I discovered BL for the first time this year, and boy what a year it was! I wanted to write up a quick and simple review of the shows that I watched just to finish off the year. So here goes! (Spoilers EVERYWHERE. So... be careful.)

Shows that I loved, will definitely rewatch in the future, and will skip very little of when I do:

The Untamed - beautiful story, beautiful production, all around worth every second of the 50 episodes. technically not a BL because of censorship, but still managed to portray the most beautiful love story I watched all year. Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan deserve every second of the acclaim and praise they have received for this masterpiece! 10/10

Until We Meet Again - I love every couple in this series with all my heart! a lot of people felt it was slow but I honestly just thought it was a beautiful story full of love and heartache and friendship and just... uhg, everything. I will rewatch this one again and again and again. 10/10

Like In The Movies - this one was heartbreaking and hopeful and beautiful and tragic and sweet and just altogether perfect in every way. I need the sequel right now immediately please! 10/10

He’s Coming To Me - this one was so good?!! I don’t know how a show about a love story between a ghost that was murdered 20 years ago and a university student could be so perfect, but it was? the only thing that was a little iffy was the previous relationship between Met and Thun’s mom. this one is sweet and sad (Met is dead afterall) and has love and mystery and good side characters and friendships. yeah. just altogether great. 9/10

HIStory 3: Trapped - fascinating story (I want so many more BL’s that AREN’T set in high school/university please!) and great chemistry between both couples. the acting was fantastic and the storyline was compelling. I truly love this show except for the fact that we’re not getting that sequel they were hinting at and that makes me SAD because it makes the ending hurt so much even if it was a hopeful one. 9/10

HIStory 2: Crossing the Line - cute story, amazing actors, wonderful side characters, just all around great! the only reason it’s not getting a perfect score is because I feel very OLD when watching highschool storylines. it makes the intimate scenes... awkward. even if the actors are adults. 9/10

Where Your Eyes Linger - loved the storyline, loved the chemistry and dynamics of the couple, the ending was rushed and left me wanting so much more, but since it was one of the first Korean BL’s to ever be produced it was wonderful. 8/10

Cherry Magic - I love Adachi and Kurosawa with all my heart! this show was so good. so so good! the only reason I’m not giving it a higher rating is because Tsuge and Minato’s storyline gives me so much secondhand embarrassment ALL THE TIME! but they’re still so cute despite that, so it’s not horrible. Rokkaku and Fujisaki are SO CUTE and the perfect side characters. basically this show is perfect (except for the second hand embarrassment) and the fact that we never got a proper kiss. like... I don’t need skinship in every BL show I watch, but that last second cutaway in the end was just... frustrating. 8/10

Theory of Love - OffGun have my whole heart and are 80% of the reason I love this show so much. but also I really liked the story line and the way Third and Kai’s relationship progressed throughout the show. it had a perfect resolution for all the couples (including the teacher/student ‘couple’ which I usually HATE) and was definitely a stand out from all the multitude of ‘university’ shows out there. 8/10

3 Will Be Free - this was was so interesting and lovely and tragic and I loved every single second of it... up until the last ten minutes. I almost put it lower just because of the ending. we deserved a happy, loving bisexual polyship d*mn it! but I’ll definitely rewatch it again. and stop right before the end when I do. 8/10

Because of You 2020 - ridiculous nonsense that I will gladly watch again! really there is no justifying this one being in my top list because it is NONSENSE but it makes me happy and that’s all that matters. all three couples are adorable and the last scene makes me smile so much! 8/10

Shows that I liked and will probably watch again, but will be skipping a lot of parts when I do: 

My Engineer - this show should be in my top list. but I HATE BohnDuen so much. so so much. and they are the main couple. so because of them when I rewatch this show (which I have several times now) I have to skip 60% of it because I really really hate them. so much. but the other three couples make up for it - especially RamKing who GIVE ME LIFE - so it’s at the top of my ‘not the top’ list. 7/10

Mr. Heart - this one was cute, but I felt like the couple was very... lop-sided. Sang Ha was almost obsessed with Jin Won before they ever even properly met and that gave me a weird feeling. their relationship was cute by the end, but... idk. and the whole side story with Sang Ha and the debt collectors was... odd. I felt like it was a very serious storyline that they did not take seriously at all. very off-putting. but altogether the show was cute enough, and short enough, to deserve a rewatch. 6/10

Why R U - I just... did not like SaifahZon. like... at all. Zon’s character annoyed me, their dynamic was... off, and Zon’s sister makes me so mad I can’t watch her at all. I adore FighterTutor (they are one of my favorite couples which is why this show is still getting such a high rating) and I have rewatched their part of the show 3 times now. but the rest, including the THREE other side couples (seriously? 5 couples in one show? why? it’s too f*cking much!)... no. no thank you. 6/10

Roommates The Series - it was cute, and did very well on a VERY low budget and a very limited cast because they filmed during the pandemic (or after the worst of it was over in their country at least). the side female characters were great (a rarity in BL’s for sure!) and there was a few really great scenes that I loved. altogether a bit of a lackluster show compared to others, but definitely worth at least one watch. 6/10

Tharntype - I know how problematic this show is, alright? but it’s fictional, and sometimes people like things in their fictional stories that they HATE in real life... all the very serious consent issues for one. that being said, if I had been watching the show as it aired I probably would have given up on it by, like, episode 2. as it was I knew everything that happened before I ever started watching and that gave me the freedom to appreciate the storyline for what it would become at the end. I love MewGulf and the way they portrayed Tharn and Type. I thought Tar’s storyline was interesting and heartbreaking and he is a precious bean that I want to protect with all my heart. however, a big factor in this series not making it into my top list is the handling of Lhong and the ending of his story. you want me to feel sorry for that monster? are you kidding me?!! he should have been locked up in prison for the rest of his life, not had Tharn’s brother come APOLOGIZE to him as if he was the one who was wronged. if that hadn’t happened, despite all the problematic things in this show, I would probably have put this in my top list. 6/10

Wish You - this one had SO MUCH POTENTIEL. the storyline was unique, the ‘twist’ reveal was interesting, and the main characters had a lot of chemistry. and everything was RUSHED RUSHED RUSHED! this show needed at LEAST 5-6 more episodes. there was no time to develop the relationship between In Soo and Sang Yi, and I wanted them to so badly! there was no time to deal with the ‘twist’ and the fallout that happened from it. everything just happened and then you moved on, and then more things happened and you moved on. uhg. despite all that I’m putting this one a little higher because the actors, writing, and production value were very good. but gosh do I wish there was so much more of it. the wasted potential is painful. 6/10

The Effect - wow. this one was... not what I was expecting. be cautious of watching this because it could be VERY triggering. but the acting was PHENOMENAL! I think they took a very dark and serious subject and portrayed it with a lot of care. one of the best things about it was Shin’s friends reaction to his trauma and how carefully and kindly they helped him heal. beautiful to watch! the only reason this is not getting a higher rating is because that ending was INFURIATING! absolutely unforgivable for them to leave it so ambiguous like that. Shin deserved to have a clear and obvious happy ending. not... whatever the hell that was. 6/10

Love By Chance - AePete are precious and adorable and I love them. But Ae’s possessiveness in the later episodes really bothers me, the fact that Perth was 17 when they were filming really bothers me, and once AePete get together halfway through the show it’s like they just get dropped to focus on TinCan which is a couple I can’t stand even a little. and don’t even get me STARTED on Techno and Kengkla. just... just don’t. that whole ‘relationship’ is 85% of the reason I refuse to watch the sequel. altogether, I probably WON’T watch this one again, but I probably would at least have watched the AePete and TumTar (yes, I liked them leave me alone about it) storylines if Perth wasn’t so young, so I’m still giving it a 5/10

Together With Me - MaxTul are fire both on and off screen and I love them with all my heart, but I hated, like, 95% of the show that wasn’t strictly about them. teacher/student storyline? gross. couple with a huge age-gap that ends up being super toxic and emotionally destroying a sweet and lovely character? thanks, I HATE IT. yet another BL portraying the girlfriend as a conniving b*tch so that we’re okay with one half of the main couple being a cheater while they figure out their sexuality crisis? ew ew and more ew. honestly if it wasn’t for the fact that they had two fantastic side female characters (again, such a rarity in BL’s!) and the pure intense chemistry between KornKnock this show probably would have been put even lower. 5/10

Dark Blue Kiss - I can’t stand PeteKao? like... why do so many people love them so much? Pete is SO JEALOUS ALL THE TIME! I just want to smack him! and he’s also completely not understanding of Kao’s fear of coming out. he basically spent the entire show sabotaging his own relationship and then blaming it all on Kao! uhg. no. just no. but I love SunMork with all my heart and wanted them to have so much more development and screen time. it would have made the final scene with them so much better if they had just had TIME to really show their relationship and how it grew, instead of just getting them together and deciding that was good enough. I’ll watch their part again I’m sure, but only their part. 5/10

Shows that were very subpar - I may rewatch some of these for a specific couple but only if I’m really bored and feel like skipping 80% of the show:

#MyDay - I know there’s a lot of people that really like this one. but... oof. the writing was so bad. so so bad! the pacing of the show was weird, there were some major moments that needed a LOT more attention, and some minor moments that got way more screen time than they needed. things were just... awkward all the time when they weren’t meant to be. and again, we have a character that needed to go TO PRISON but ended up being forgiven in the end. just... no. I’m honestly only putting this show as high as I am because the chemistry between Ace and Sky was fantastic. but that wasn’t enough to save this trainwreck. I might watch the sequel for them. maybe. but also maybe not. 4/10

Quaranthings - this one had so much potential but was honestly just so subpar in the end. I really just don’t even have much to say about it. it’s worth watching, I guess. but put it at the bottom of your list, after you’ve watched all the better stuff. 4/10

YYY (and the 3 special eps) - look... weird shows are just not my thing. I love Lay and his portrayal of Punn, Nott was okay as the lead character, but the side characters and storylines were... bizarre. I get that it was supposed to be a parody of other BL’s and their tropes... but honestly I like tropes. and this show was just... too bizarre. especially the three special episodes. in fact... I’m just now remembering I never watched the 3rd one. oops. 4/10

En of Love - This was such a mix and match of good and bad. I didn’t like Tossara AT ALL. Gun pressured Bar into that relationship, including flat out blackmailing him with his necklace to force him to go out with him! they may have been happy in the end, but Bar was CLEARLY uncomfortable with Gun’s advances for most of the first three episodes and it really grossed me out. I kind of liked Mark and Vee together, but the issue with Mark’s girlfriend was frustrating and their whole relationship was just a little bit toxic. and I actually liked Neua and Pra-Ram... AFTER they let us know that Pra-Ram was a legal adult. I hated their relationship up until they had the birthday party because I thought Pra was 17. I’m still a little iffy about a very experienced third year student in university dating a very inexperienced high school student. but at least it wasn’t ILLEGAL. oof. 4/10

HIStory 1: Obsessed/Stay Away from Me/My Hero - My Hero and Stay Away From Me were cute enough although I’ll probably never rewatch them, but Obsessed was toxic and horrible and gross in all senses of the word. -4 for that one which puts the whole series at a 3/10

Tien Bromance - y’all this one is... I don’t even know how to describe it. weird. bizarre. confusing. badly written. strangely acted. (the acting wasn’t bad... it was just... strange.) I watched the special episodes first and thought it was just a cute little domestic family drama with some strange moments. then I watched the rest. and the fact that the first episode started off with a ghost possessing and killing like 8 people while they were on vacation at a lake was the least weird thing that happened. 3/10

Craving You - no. the storyline makes no sense. why are a popular cake baker and an upcoming musician partnering together? why? it doesn’t make any sense! And one of the lead actors is just SO BLAND. I think he was going for ‘quiet and sad’ but just ended up with ‘emotionless and boring’. the most compelling part of the show was the side character dealing with the unexplored feelings that he had for his first love that were denied to him by a homophobic family and how those feelings are now interfering with his current relationship. the rest was pointless and bland. 3/10

My Gear and Your Gown - I liked this one SO MUCH for the first 3-4 episodes. then is went downhill and FAST. Pai and Itt had no chemistry for the last 8 episodes. they spend the whole show angry at each other and then we’re just supposed to accept them getting together in the end because Itt confessed his feelings. like... that’s not enough! the best part of the show was PureFolk. Pure finally believing in love again because he met the ray of sunshine and sweetness that is Folk? yes please! but even their storyline was not fantastic because it got rushed and pushed aside in the end to focus on Pai and Itt breaking up AGAIN and having to deal with the issue of homophobic parents for all of one episode. the last episode was so pointless! there was no reason to shoehorn in that last little bit of drama. none. 3/10

Oxygen - uhg. I do not understand why so many people liked this one so much. Solo’s feelings for Gui were UNHEALTHY. he became obsessed with him over one tiny act of kindness! that’s... that’s not love. that is a broken young boy desperately seeking out love and forcing it onto someone because he doesn’t know what it’s supposed to be like. and the side story with the fujoshi barista and her brother and the doctors was creepy and weird. the only good part of this show was PhuKao but they got about 3 minutes of screen time per episode. I would watch a sequel with them in a heart beat, but leave everyone else out of it! 2/10

Shows I’m currently watching but haven’t finished airing yet so my rating may change:

Manner of Death - this show is EVERYTHING! the murder mystery, the suspense, the suspicion, the CHEMISTRY! I have no idea what’s going on or who I trust or don’t trust (except for Dr. Bunn and Sorn, they are precious rays of sunshine!) but I love every second of it. MaxTul are FIRE and I am so so happy to get to watch them in a story like this! 10/10

Ingredients - this show is EVERYTHING! and yes, I just said that about MoD, but this one is on the complete opposite side of the ‘everything’ spectrum and I love it with all my heart. Win and Tops are SO. FREAKING. CUTE! their pining for each other for eighteen d*mn episodes was so beautiful and sweet and infuriating! their love for each other as friends above all else is precious and perfect! and now that they’re actually together my heart just bursts every time I see them. I think the series only has 1 or 2 episodes left and I am DEVESTATED because I want 20 more! 10/10

TonhonChonlatee - I watched the first two episodes then stopped. I’ve been ‘watching’ the rest via people’s reactions to new episodes online. I get that Tonhon’s homophobia and toxic masculinity is supposed to be awful and is a major plot point in the show... but I don’t want to f*cking WATCH it! I’m hoping we’re getting to a point in the show where he’s calming the f*ck down and starting to learn better and BE better. I want to watch this show. but I can’t watch THAT. 3/10

Color Rush - this one has started off fantastically! the story is interesting and the characters are compelling already. but... I can tell you right now that it’s going to go the way of all the other Korean BL’s that came out this year. it’s not going to have enough time. AT ALL. it’s going to be rushed, I just know it. I applaud Korea for getting into BL’s in the first place and for giving us such interesting storylines and characters to watch, but these 10 minute, 8 episode shows are KILLING me with want of better development! 7/10

You’re an Avenger too and after a mission gone well, you decide to celebrate. That’s when Loki sees your drunken side. You seem to be both intoxicated with alcohol and the god of mischief himself. Author’s Note: Please know that everyone is different when they’re drunk. I wrote this based on what I’m familiar with. For once, I tried to keep angst out of this. I tried. Besides, writing soft!Loki is actually fun. Please enjoy! 😊

Third POV

The night had gotten a wild start and the chaos didn’t seem to be ending any time soon. Y/N had returned from a mission with her teammates after spending a week in the cold woods of Siberia. Once they reached their mission target and came back home, they were more than happy to celebrate their victory. After all, it felt great to be back after such hard work.

Loki was one of her teammates. He was new to the Avengers and they still didn’t trust him, nor did he believe they ever would, not completely. Despite the fact Loki had told them about Thanos, it didn’t seem to change much. Luckily, Y/N seemed to appreciate him. Even the kid, Peter Parker, dared to at least attempt to try to Loki. Even if the god didn’t vocalize it, he appreciated both of them. Especially Y/N. They had gotten much closer during the mission. They had split up and worked in pairs. Luckily, Loki had worked with her and they learnt a lot of each other. Y/N was much older than she appeared. The root of her powers was older than any living human on Midgard. Centuries ago, her family had been cursed by a witch. The rest of her family had unfortunately died, but Y/N, back then still a child, had fallen into a deep sleep. She had woken up from it after being disturbed by HYDRA. The evil organization had tried to take use of her powers. At least, she learned how to control them, but under the wrong circumstances.

That’s why she was so happy to be an Avenger. She could put her powers to good use. Besides, she felt understood while talking to Loki. He too had gone through terrible things.

So here they were, at a bar in the city that never slept.

But Peter was too young to drunk, which meant Loki would celebrate with Y/N. He did not expect the night to turn out the way it did.

The mortals had taken shots of something that smelled awfully sweet, which was why Loki had declined. Midgardian booze was nothing like the booze they had on Asgard. Unfortunately, Asgard was destroyed and the inhabitants of New Asgard back in Norway couldn’t magically get the ingredients from the destroyed realm. Alcohol wasn’t important for Loki, so he didn’t mind. He had a glass of red wine and he did his best to keep up with Y/N and the rest.

After several drinks that had burnt her throat, she began to loosen up and relax – if embarrassing herself counted as relaxation. It took a while for the alcohol to take a toll on her, but once it did, she was wild. It even surprised Loki, who had seen a lot in his long life.

“It’s my turn!” Y/N seemed beyond excited when the man called her name on the karaoke stage.

Loki had no clue what would happen. “Have fun,” he wished her sweetly, watching her get up and squirm through the people in order to reach the stage. Some people whistled when they saw her, which Loki didn’t necessarily like, but he had learned it was common in such places that were full of drunk people. People could be dirty. Some were simply dumb.

The song began to play and right off the bat, the people that recognized the song hurried onto the dance floor. For some reason, the lights on the dance-floor turned pink, making the aura of the place feel very intense, almost romantic. Loki didn’t think much of it, not yet. Although, Loki knew she would probably be embarrassed in the morning, he was happy to see her happy. When she was sober, she was definitely more closed off.

“Hey, Loki!” Y/N yelled his name in the microphone as the music blasted in the background. It threw him off guard and he tilted his head to look at her, afraid she’d say something foolish. “This one’s for you!” She continued proudly, making heads turn into Loki’s direction. Some people cheered her on.

Dear gods…

For me? He thought, confused. Was she serenading him? Was this normal Midgardian behavior?

Loki felt his cheeks heat up from embarrassment. He wasn’t used to people showing him any signs of affection this publicly. Bucky and Sam, who were nearby, couldn’t resist their laughs as they heard Y/N. The duo were good friends with Y/N and they did their best to get along with Loki. It wasn’t the worst, but sometimes they got on Loki’s nerves. Just like they did now. To make it worse, they headed to Loki’s direction and squeezed into the booth, sitting with him. They really wanted to make the most of the moment, didn’t they? They were practically gleaming!

Instead of brushing her off completely, Loki simply smiled and hid his embarrassment by taking a sip of his drink, hiding his face while doing so. Loki had fun, knowing he would remember this perfectly the next day, but he also wished he could be swallowed whole by the booth he sat in.

“I didn’t know there was something between the two of you,” Sam teased Loki a little bit, hoping not to push his buttons. Honestly, he was too drunk to really care.

Loki only shot him a cold glare, clueless as to what he should say. What lead Sam to the conclusion that there was something between them? Sure, they were close – that was undeniable, but it wasn’t romantic. Or was it? Nothing was set in stone, so Loki assumed what was between them was purely friendly banter with some innocent flirting. Alright, he had to admit he did feel for her, but he would never act on it. She was so…good.

That’s when she began to sing.

(True – Spandau Ballet) “…So true, funny how it seems, always in time, but never in line for dreams. Head over heels when toe to toe. This is the sound of my soul, this is the sound-“

Y/N wasn’t drunk; she was wasted.

Yet her singing sounded good. Loki would’ve focused more on her beautiful voice if it wasn’t for the lyrics. It had only been a few seconds, but he could feel his heart pounding against his chest. What was happening?!

“…I bought a ticket to the world, but now I've come back again. Why do I find it hard to write the next line? Oh, I want the truth to be said!” Y/N sang surprisingly clearly, never taking her eyes off Loki. It appeared the alcohol gave her a boost of courage. Loki couldn’t imagine ever stepping foot on that stage. He’d rather stay in the safety of the booth nearby.

By now, some of the drunken people had begun to sing along. Although it seemed like everyone else was having fun and ignoring Y/N’s feelings, Loki noticed it. She seemed serious, although she was drunk. He felt that she meant some of the things she sang, she basically poured her emotions into it. Could it truly just be the alcohol?

“…With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue, dissolve the nerves that have just begun. Listening to Marvin (all night long!). This is the sound of my soul, this is the sound-

Always slipping from my hands, sand's a time of its own.  Take your seaside arms and write the next line, oh, I want the truth to be known…”

As odd as it was, Loki began to relax a little bit. Perhaps, it wasn’t that bad. There was a saxophone break in the song and Y/N stood there in silence for a while, as a sweet smile decorated her face. She seemed to happy. Whatever it was she was doing, she enjoyed it and Loki adored that. Even if it was just a drunken thing, it was nice. Surely, it would make him question things later, but Loki would try to push his thoughts away. He was a master at that.

“…This much is true, this much is true (huh huh), this much is true, I know, I know, I know this much is true…” as the song came to an end, some people applauded cheerfully, having clearly enjoyed the song Y/N had chosen to perform. She got off the stage after handing over the microphone to the man controlling the karaoke system.

“Wherever you are, Loki, someone sure adores you!” The man said into the microphone, clueless to who Loki actually was. Just like that, someone else got on stage and another song began to play. Loki didn’t have time to think over it as Y/N returned to the table, squeezing her way next to Loki, which she had to do by crawling over Bucky and Sam. She looked a little clumsy doing so.

“I hope you liked it!” Y/N said loudly over the music and grabbed her drink, sipping on it excitedly. Her behavior fascinated Loki.  

Loki felt someone kick his leg under the table. The next moment, Bucky just smirked at him, as if he was trying to silently hint something. It was a different side from the man Loki was used to seeing at the compound. Ignoring the super soldier, Loki returned his attention to Y/N. “It was amazing,” he told her, seeing how happy it made her. Loki might’ve been cold to others, even frightening, but over time he had learned to let his guard down with her and he enjoyed it.

“That was so cheesy Y/N,” Bucky joked, making the woman roll her eyes.

“What? The song is iconic!” She argued playfully, not minding Bucky’s comment. They were friends, after all.

“If you want an iconic love song, you should try Careless whisper!” Sam butted in, almost wishing she would sing it. That would definitely make the mighty god flustered!

Sam’s suggestion seemed to thrill Y/N. “Sam, you’re a genius!” She slurred. “I should totally sing it.”

Bucky had to cut off her joy, “too late, doll. It’s too late to sign up.”

“Fuck!” She cursed, making the men laugh, and then she leaned against Loki’s shoulder, as if it was the most normal thing to do. Loki tensed up when he felt her head against his body. What was she doing? Why didn’t he mind it? He wished dearly that she wouldn’t bee too embarrassed all sobered up. “You’re soft.”

“What?” Loki spat out in shock. Bucky and Sam exchanged surprised looks, making it very clear they were drunk which definitely made them think like teenagers. How infuriating.

“Your jacket! ‘s so soft, Loki,” Y/N mumbled and rubbed her fingers up and down Loki’s arm. She seemed enthralled by the material of his clothes.

Loki looked at her drowsy smile and knew she would fall asleep soon if she stayed like that. She was quite comfortable by Loki’s side. Perhaps too comfortable, because falling asleep in a bar wouldn’t be ideal. Loki put on a tough face and acted like he didn’t care too much, “Are you tired?” He asked her. He would gladly take her to the safety of her own bed. It was getting quite late.

“Me? Tired? You must be joking!” Y/N denied the obvious truth, her cover breaking even more as she yawned. With anyone else, this type of behavior would annoy Loki, but he had to admit she was quite precious like this. It was the contrary of her Avenger self. She could be scary while in action. He had also figured out she was a skilled actress, or liar as some would say, which clearly didn’t apply to her drunken state.

“Thor and the others already left,” Bucky informed them casually. It meant that they were the only ones still at the bar.

If even Thor had left the party, it must’ve been quite late!

“I’ll just finish… er- I’ll finish this drink,” Y/N bought herself a little more time while holding onto her half-empty glass. It was fair enough.

              By the time she had finished her drink and they had gotten out of the warm and loud bar, Y/N had to hold onto Loki to stay on her feet. Loki, Sam, Bucky and Y/N could’ve called for a safer ride to the compound, but the three drunk Avengers got into a cab and Loki had to join them. He was too worried of what kind of trouble they would get into if he let Y/N out of sight. Sam sat in the front, chatting with the driver as the rest were in the back. Y/N was in the middle seat and she still leaned against Loki. He didn’t mind it. Loki had his arm wrapped around her shoulders, which made it easier to sit in the small car. It was definitely a tight fit.

“You smell good,” she kept mumbling the weirdest things. Loki didn’t show it, but her words affected him more than she’d ever know. He knew she was drunk, and it could all be drunken nonsense, but her little compliments felt oddly nice.

They finally arrived at the compound and surely enough, the alcohol had lulled her into a heavy sleep. Loki sighed once he realized he had to carry her. It wasn’t a problem for him, but he knew he would hear about it for weeks if his brother caught a sight of them. Thor was an oaf who knew exactly how to piss off Loki if he wanted to. He supposed it was just part of brotherhood.

The path was clear, which was a relief for Loki. Her body was limp in his arms. Loki wondered how many people would ever dare to put their unconscious bodies near him. It was clear to him that she trusted him, which meant more to him than he wanted to admit.

It was nearly five in the morning once Loki had put Y/N on her bed. Kindly, he took off her shoes and wrapped her blanket above her so she wouldn’t wake up cold. Knowing she would definitely have a headache in the morning, Loki decided to put a glass of water on her nightstand. Just as he was about to leave, she caught his attention once more.

“I like you…so, so much…” The woman mumbled, half-asleep.

Loki looked at her in shock. He told himself she was just drunk, but nevertheless, her words made his heart swell and blood rush through his body. It was sweet of her. Deep down, Loki wondered if she spoke the truth. If she did, he would be really thrilled about it. Nervous, too. It had been a very long time since Loki last cared for anyone romantically. “Sleep well, Y/,” He brushed his thoughts away. She had already fallen back to sleep. Then he retreated to his own quarters. Despite how strange the night turned out to be, he had a good time. Who would’ve thought? Prince Loki of Asgard had a good time in the middle of drunk mortals.

                   Morning came and Loki decided to get up. He hadn’t gotten much sleep, but he was a god, so it didn’t affect him too much. He decided to use the gym while the rest were still asleep or taking care of their hangovers. During the entire morning, Loki failed to get Y/N off his mind. He wondered how she would react to him now that she was sober. How much did she remember? Would she be embarrassed?

A ’swoosh’ sound of the doors sliding open caught Loki by surprise. He hadn’t expected company at the gym. He took a break from running and he turned to look at the door.

Y/N stood there, frozen in shock as she looked at the god – covered in a thin layer of swear, only wearing green top and black trousers.

Memories flooded to her mind at the sight of him. She faced away from him, seemingly embarrassed. “Oh…hey,” She broke the silence. Her voice was a little harsh, probably because of last night.

“Good morning, Y/N. How do you feel?” Loki wondered. He was genuinely curious to know how that amount of alcohol affected her.

His question made her eyes open wide and she seemed to get flustered. “Too much,” Y/N was quick to say. “Look, I’m sorry, Loki. I must’ve put you in such an uncomfortable situation. I understand if you don’t want to see me right now.”

Was she serious?

“Don’t be silly,” Loki was quick to reassure her, “I’m alright. It was quite amusing, I must say.”

A smile grew on her tired face. Loki could almost feel her relief radiate to him. He had no clue she’d be so nervous. Did it mean that she had meant the things she said? Or was she simply embarrassed?

“Thanks for getting me inside. I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you either. Gosh, I was so drunk!” Y/N quickly saw the humor in the situation and giggled at herself.

Does your character have siblings or family members in their age group? Which one are they closest with?

THIS IS SO SAD BUT NO...... he would DIE for a sibling, and his parents dont have siblings either so he doesnt even have cousins,,, he longs for that kind of relationship so much??

he ended up projecting being a big brother to many people over the course of his life instead, and it embarrasses him so much when he notices it happening, it makes him feel so silly

i would say the biggest tugs of that kind of dynamic rn are maybe with colin especially with all the dumb fake animosity, while adrien is almost a legit Parental/mother hen feeling of being protective of him

What is/was your character’s relationship with their mother like?

ive talked about this a bit before, but graham was the product of an arranged marriage. his grandfather made his dad marry a woman from a prestigious family so they could keep their popularity and prestige and important connections themselves, especially as immigrants in a very racist country

his parents ended up caring deeply for one another, but not in a romantic way, and his mother was extremely depressed and anxious throughout her pregnancy, and after graham was born. she was nearly suicidal and grahams grandfather was only making things worse, so it was grahams dad who basically. decided to say fuck it to his father, bring grahams mother somewhere safe, give her all the money and resources and protection she needed to get better and pursue her own life, and he was super attached to baby graham and wanted to raise him all by himself

this early turmoil traumatized graham and when he grew up it was something that made him feel othered in relation to his peers, in addition to his race, his culture, his budding gender identity and sexual & romantic orientations. it made him feel deeply unloveable, broken, and incapable of love himself, it was one of the things that made him grow up very wary of the concept of marriage, and it took a lot of vulnerability, respect and genuine care and hard work between him and his dad to understand that the circumstances of his birth were not his fault, and that this was the best solution for everyone to be able to experience their love for each other the best way possible

graham has met her several times, writes to her regularly, and he treats her like a dear friend rather than a parent. hes happy for her, her art degrees, her girlfriend, and in turn shes expressed a lot of pride and joy in getting to meet this boy she helped bring to the world

What is/was your character’s relationship with their father like?

graham loves his dad to fucking pieces

hes such a humble, emotionally intelligent and caring man, who from early on caught onto all the outdated and damaging aspects of the traditions of his family and fought against it time after time after time

he is completely different from his own father, who had very specific plans for him, and he just foiled them all!

with grahams birth, he did the best he could raising him by himself, thwarting his fathers enduring influence, and making sure this kid had all the tools to be true to himself and follow his heart no matter what. he isnt perfect and of course he made many mistakes, but he is always humble enough to admit when hes wrong, apologize to his child, communicate his feelings and figure out solutions together. graham has always had an amazing role model in him

the circumstances of grahams disappearance and then return after the trials of his own jumanji esque adventure are still difficult for him to understand, but he still believed graham, and he was the biggest force in bringing his son back from his damaging self isolation and motivate him to cook, to live, to carry on

he still remains ever supporting and adoring of his child, adoring of his new child in law, and just an all around amazing dude

if theyre not horror movie or game induced, then theyre related to his period of isolation, to being trapped in an endlessly dark, silent, quiet cold place

during the time they were in their own jumanji esque adventure, completely by himself, unaided, trapped in some reality away from his own so he could put it together and slowly solve this lock puzzle until he got to come home again

hes usually ok with handling himself with crises, even when theres a lot of blood

What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?

bunnies! lots of sweet stuffies, including rabbits, pokemon and marine creatures

his gameboy and his tamagotchi too

What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?

i would say his biiiiiiig repulsion/aversion to dating culture in general? this is related to his family history but is also a big consequence of his aromanticism

he has huge trouble understanding all the rituals of people jumping into commitments and weird expectations and fleeting obsessions when most of the time they dont even have a solid foundation of time, vulnerability and trust to even call themselves a good friendship, especially in people who he sees jump into the same pitfalls over and over?

ultimately he understands that his own circumstances are important differences in how people shape their relationships, but it still makes him extremely secondhand anxious, especially because in his experience as an observer rushed things and pushed expectations make for very volatile and intense disappointments that end up hurting him a lot too, and hes kinda very tired of that

nonetheless, this has made him grow distant of friends in the past, and while he regrets some of it and wishes it was easier to compromise and be more comfortable about it, he also knows that he was right about many situations and ultimately it was a better idea not to get involved and trust his gut

What does your character dislike in other people?

nonsensical violence, general assholery, unwillingness to listen, lack of consideration for others, being treated as someone useful for stuff he knows or tools he has or things he can give and then being discarded, he also feels very peeved when people sexualize him when hes talked about his nudity before and how it relates with growing comfort with his self image

What did your character dream of being or doing as a child? Did that dream come true?

i would say so, yes!! working on video games, pro cuddling and cooking for others are definitely pinnacles of things hes always thought would bring others joy

Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable.

home... close to kes, taking a deep breath in their little home, with their little family, and feeling wholly, intrinsically belonging...

similar locations are for example when his dad throws a party and graham gets to invite all his best friends and everyone just has a lovely time laughing and eating together. game streams are a similar venture too!!

but at the end of the day, coming home, kicking off shoes and clothes, snuggling up to his starlight and their babies? pure bliss

Is your character more concerned with defending their honor, or protecting their status?

i still dont understand what this means,,,,

oh it is a constant cycle of tremendous happiness and having to pinch himself bc hes so scared hes still in the silent cold dark alone... hes always trying to do better to keep earning this. hes a bit better about it now, he understand ppl are here bc they want to, but yknow. brain trauma still does things sometimes.

Has your character ever had a dependent figure who was not related to them?

nope! but his dad moods are soooo big now. he just wants to protect kids and be a good influence...

I rewatched the PGSM live action recently. Here are some thoughts:

First of all - Best Girl: Zoisite. Hands down.

Yes, it’s cheesy as all fuck. There are some awful parts I cringe at so hard I get secondhand embarrassed and yell at the TV. But there are flashes of brilliance I think would have made this show AMAZING if pulled off properly in the right hands.

What I think is good: 

Serenity as a morally ambiguous god, who tends to destroy the entire planet when she’s upset. In that vein: Princess Sailor Moon is a BAMF. 

The Shittenou in general (haha, general. get it?) Their unique and awesome costumes, their interactions with eachother and Mamoru, they’re just adorable.

Usagi and Mamoru’s development of their relationship outside of their past lives. It’s so much cuter than I think either the anime or the manga. Also Mako and Motoki  ❤️

Keiko Kitagawa as Rei/Mars. She’s an amazing actress both in this show and things she starred in later. When I watched this with my (male) roommate many years ago, the episodes dealing with Rei and her father brought him to tears, which is pretty hard to get him to do.

In summation: I stan PGSM. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

PS: I really want to fix Miss Dream’s subs for this show, they’re WAY OFF in translation sometimes.

Avengers Endgame Spoilers

I finally got to see it yesterday and from scrolling through some of other people’s opinions and not being able to think of anything else I’ve decided to put all my thoughts, questions, and things I wish would have changed all down together. So spoiler warning for those who haven’t seen it and I would also love to hear your thoughts as well!

Things I loved:

1. I loved the balance of comedy and dark – I’ve seen people say they didn’t like Thor’s character but for me I did mainly because I also have a sick sense of humor and also cannot properly cope with dark things only to joke about them during or after the moment

2. Korg and Meek playing Fortnite which was both funny but will also date the movie

3. Scott Lang was an absolute gem everything about him was wonderful and I found it even more funny that for him in his own timeline from event from Ant and the Wasp to Endgame he basically had one crazy week

4. Banner/Hulk also being wonderful and as well as trying to be a ‘I’m A Cool Dad’TM to make the kids dab with him

5. Steve loving/kicking his/America’s ass

6. Nebula making new friends with Tony and Rhodey

7. Morgan Stark deserves everything I love her 3000 plus her discovering her new favorite word shit

8. Rocket being a little shit/trying to be a leader

9. Thor and his mom having a moment

10. Steve wielding Thor’s hammer and being amazing

11. Thor wielding his hammer and Stormbreaker and also being amazing

12. Steve standing alone only to hear Sam and we get an ICONIC scene of everyone appearing

13. Thanos smug ass face falling when everyone shows up

14. Hot Potato with the gauntlet

15. SuperMoms protecting my boi peter

16. Wanda seconds away from killing Thanos so his only option is to bomb the area wiping out most of his own army

17. You can rest now Tony – beautifully heartwrenching and I cried like a baby

18. Strange holding up one finger

19. Tony being a BOSS wielding the infinity stones

20. Carol destroying Thanos’s ship in one go and being a Boss Bitch in hand to hand combat with him

21. Parallels from other movies like Thanos trying to stab thor with stormbreaker which matched thor doing the same to thanos in infinity or the elevator scene

1. WHERE THE FUCK DID LOKI GO? I mean im assuming this little scene was leading up for the loki tv show thing we’ve been hearing about but what the fuck I wanted him to kick Thanos’s ass as well

4. IS THOR GOING TO BE IN GG3? Cuz I honestly I would love that

5. DID NO ONE TELL NAT AND CLINT ABOUT THE PRICE OF THE SOUL STONE? I mean I guess only Nebula knew but she didn’t think it was important to tell them???

6. WHAT HAPPENED IN BUDAPEST?

Things I would have changed:

1. Obviously Steve going to the past. I mean at first I was fine with it because yes the dude needs to have a normal life but the more I thought about it the more I wanted him to stay in the future with his friends and new formed family which ties into my question of Bucky because seriously three fuckin movies of Steve fighting for Bucky and the two didn’t get a goodbye??? Like what the fuck!

2. Some of the pacing was weird like I loved the build-up but some scenes were unnecessary like the diner scene with scott and the kids which gave me secondhand embarrassment and was way too long and yes although I loved Thor’s comedy some of it was also pointless and too long when some other scenes could have been added (see point above)

Well this is just some of my thoughts and I’ve probably missed some but I just had to write it all down before I lose my mind

TG movie comments

So last night I dragged along my cousin (who knows absolutely nothing about TG) to watch the live action movie and I just wanted to ramble on about a few things, including some of my cousin’s comments from someone who isn’t already a fan :)

I absolutely loved the movie! There were so many little details for manga readers to pick up on, but they weren’t presented in a way which would detract from the experience of someone who was new to the series. My cousin really liked it too, enough that she wanted to watch the anime afterwards to see how it compared, so I guess it hit the goal of what a live action should do; appease established fans of the story and draw in new viewers to seek out the manga/anime to get more of the story!

The casting was amazing all round. When we watched the anime, and could compare the characters between the two mediums, Cousin mentioned how spot on they were. Even flipping through my manga to a page with Yomo, she picked him out which i was surprised about considering the different hair colour and age. I think it’s probably because the actor was really spot on with Yomo’s -__- expression!

Kaneki on the date with Rize was SO AWKWARD, painfully so. I was getting so much secondhand embarrassment from him :’D Comparing to the anime, Cousin mentioned that too- how he wasn’t as awkward in there. It was cute though! I get the feeling to someone who doesn’t know his character, he would have come across as a bit creepy rather than endearing though hahaha

There were a few scenes which were cut out/changed for necessity but so many small details were kept the same (insignificant things like Kaneki guzzling milk out his fridge which I was oddly touched that it was kept in haha) 

Probably one of the only things, they cut out Kaneki calling Touka a monster after he asked for her help in the alleyway which I thought kind of diluted down her reason for why she was so salty at him. But at the same time, they did add a few gentler moments from Touka to balance it out (gotta get that tsun to dere ratio just right ;D)

Like I had suspected from one of the stills, Touka scooped out a handful of cake from the garbage and threw it at Kaneki during her “tell me, what does cake taste like?” spiel and it made me cackle thinking of the cake throwback at their wedding

HAJIME MADE A CAMEO AND I WANTED TO SEND HIM TO TIME OUT IMMEDIATELY

Ryouko’s death was so sad, and just before the end, they made everything very still and silent as she turned to Hinami and locked eyes with her

Like the anime, the movie used Kaneki hallucinating Rize to show his inner conflict. He’d look in the mirror and see her reflection instead- it was really cool.

Funny Kaneki and Touka moment; when Yoshimura first took Kaneki into Anteiku and served him coffee, there was a really touching moment when Kaneki realised he could drink it and he started crying, there was emotional music that tugged at your heart strings.... and then Touka ruined it with “Don’t cry, dumbass” TOUKA PLZ. In the last scene of the movie, everyone was back to working at Anteiku- peaceful and happy- and Kaneki got emotional again and started getting teary. Touka again: “Don’t cry dumbass” but this time with a little smirk and Kaneki smiled too. It was real cute.

This scene was done spot on with her kagune and everything- I got so emotional

That’s not the only scene that was almost a direct adaptation of the manga. They tended to do that in more important moments- have a camera shot directly out of the manga

Seeing the “Hinami, I think your Mother was trying to tell you to live” part was also sad considering whats going on in the manga right now- probably the worst week to be having Hinami feels in the movie ToT

The movie made Kusaba real cute and likable. His actor was a perfect fit. It worked well to make you invested in his character and make an impact with his death.

The training montage with Touka and Kaneki was AMAZING. It switched back and forth between them fighting in the dark dirty underground and Amon training in the pristine CCG facilities. In one part, Kaneki finally got a hit on Touka and went over to her like “I’m sorry Touka-chan!!! are you--” at which point she got him back with a kick :’D 

Hide was cute af, no surprises- his energy was a welcome contrast to Kaneki’s quietness

Nishiki was GREAT too, I don’t know what sorcery it is but Nishiki is spot on in every single adaptation

There was the COOLEST moment after Kaneki was about to eat Hide- Touka and Yomo showed up and they were so badass standing there at the door and activating their kakugan at the same time

Another cute moment, Hinami asked Touka what a word in her book was and she had a look like “ahhhhh..ummmm...” then nodded Kaneki to help her instead. When he explained, Touka reckons “yes that’s what it is” to which SAVAGE Hina replies with “you didn’t know it either”. Touka got mad at Kaneki for laughing before joining in with the giggles and it was cute af

Sen Takatsuki’s books were SO COOL, the covers were spot on and Kaneki had them all in a stack in his room

At one stage, when Kaneki started hallucinating Rize, the camera panned up to the ceiling with the shadow of a centipede and its scuttling legs. It was a nod to Kafka’s Metamorphosis which was one of those cool details that were there for manga readers. 

Speaking of Rize- the scene where she attacks him on their date was creepy af, it was good shit

After Mado was killed, they had the scene with Touka leaning on Kaneki and Yomo piggybacking Hinami and it was very nostalgic ToT

It was super gory- I like gore but I’m not very good at it so both me and my cousin were both turning our heads away all the time :’D I’d sneak a peek at her sometimes and see the most horrified look on her face, it was hilarious. A few times I knew something was coming up so I’d cover her eyes for her hahaha SO MUCH BLOOD HOLY SHIT like ... everywhere

Hinami asked Kaneki about the quote “the bird fights its way out of the egg, the egg is the world, who would be born must first destroy a world” and he demonstrated by cracking an egg and it was cute af- the relationship between Kaneki and Hinami was really sweet

An interesting change was when Touka wanted to go kill the investigators to protect Hinami- instead of Yoshimura being against it, Yomo stopped her and told her off but let her go off after a nod from Yoshimura. It made it seem like he was ok with what she was doing.
